hi, I just wanted to ask something. This has been bugging me for a while, but how come you're not as mad as Archie as you are at Betty? it takes TWO people to kiss...
Why hello!! I'm more than happy to rant about this because it's been on my BRAIN, just sitting there, so thanks for giving me an opportunity :D
So, I'm going to assume you're asking why I don't hold Betty and Archie to the same standard when it comes to bringing up the b*ghead break up/the infamous double judas kiss that started it all. To be as frank as possible; It's very much favoritism. But the justified kind, so lower your pitchforks.
Just by a quick scroll to my blog, I think it's unmistakably evident I like Archie over Betty; Like a red dot in a white room. You can't miss it. It's there. And as third party viewers, our individual feelings, opinion, and attachments we form towards these characters motivate the moral standards we set for them.
Take a generous majority of Betty stans, for example; Despite being united by the same romantic relationship in the show, they have a direct connection in strongly disliking the male half of said relationship; Jughead.
Betty is very much the golden child of B*gheads, so I figured it was fair game. Arguably, you can say some of them maintain some objectivism, but not enough for me to consider it valuable.
Now, am I saying Archie's a perfect angel who could do no wrong? That because he's the fandom's ' haha, big himbo Boi golden retriever stupid wholesome jock' means all guilt and responsibility should be absorbed from his part? No! Absolutely not.
I don't think there's anyone in this fandom who hates the " Archie is a perfect angel and our annoying but beloved protagonist " narrative more than I do;
Fuck. No. Archie is a violent, careless, emotionally inept douchebag, who wouldn't know what a non-dysfunctional relationship was if it spit in his eye. But here's a thing, Archie isn't the protagonist; He's the antagonist.
Arguably speaking, Archie's the most morally ambiguous/morally grey character on the show, in my opinion. Not because he struggles with separating dark from light, but because he chooses both.
I can't really look at a kiss and all that other shit he's done and be like ' oh YEA, kissing was definetly worse!' the same logic can apply to Betty, but here's ANOTHER thing; Archie didn't owe Jughead loyalty.
Archie wasn't his boyfriend; Archie wasn't the one promising he won't do it again; Archie wasn't the one who went behind his back. He's the mistress in this scenario, and mistresses aren't morally indebted to anyone.
Betty was. She was Jughead's girlfriend. She was the one who sang " you're the only man for me" and yet does the opposite, on quite clear multiple times. (There's accounts of consecutive emotional cheating as well) and she's the one who's actions hurt Jughead the most because SHE was dating him.
Hell, Archie and Jughead were barely even friends; I'll even argue to say a constant theme in the show is the constant construction and reconstruction of Jarchie's friendship. How they fail to be friends but still choose eachother, over and over again, because they're held together by memories and nostalgia.
Of course I can't hold the same bitterness for Archie when his involvement and presence in Jughead's life doesn't hold the same impact as Betty's. Archie never promised him anything. Betty did.
At best, Archie owes Jughead an apology, but his real target of compensation should be his actual partner. Veronica. Archie owes her remorse.
I'll even go ahead and say it - the varchie break up hurt more because their relationship was build on actual meaningful, mature grounds.
b*ughead is a middle schooler's relationship goals. Which is to be expected because they were 16, teenagers, yet! Archie and Veronica happen to be characters with more experience in romance, both by direct and indirect contact. (From multiple partners to their own parents separating respectively)
I don't necessarily like comparing emotional damage; I do my best not to cherry pick. However, I don't think I owe cheaters the courtesy of fair thinking.
There's no good reason to cheat. It's a destructive, cruel, abusive act of disrespect towards your partner, and I'm not at all moved by Betty's performative remorse, especially because she clearly doesn't feel it as much as the fandom pushes it.
But I'll say it once and I'll say it for as long as I can; If anti Barchies dislike barchie because they like Betty, I dislike b*ghead because I love Jughead.

Choices
Pairing: Sweet Pea x Mantle!Reader
Word Count: 2285
Warning(s): Some swearing, bulldog/serpent angst, workaholic parents
Summary: Being Reggie’s little sister wasn’t easy already. But being his sister and not agreeing with his hate towards the Southside was nearly impossible. Tensions are rising and Y/N needs to make some choices that could change her life drastically. This takes place during 2x20 and is inspired by the prompt: .“I’m fine” “You don’t look fine.” “Then stop looking!”
A/N: So I’m writing a series right now that I am waiting to publish until I have more chapters. I got stuck writing that so I thought a Sweet Pea one shot would clear some of the blockage. WELP that turned into this not so one shot turned into a possible series. I’m not sure where this is going to be honest but I’m ready to explore what could happen between Y/N and Sweet Pea. Let me know what you guys think!
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Riverdale but I do own the OCs and the story is mine. I do not post anywhere but on this profile so if you see my stuff anywhere else let me know!
Side Note: If it seems like something in my fic is not mine or of original canon let me know! I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Northside and Southside. It’s just geography but we’ve let it run our lives here in Riverdale. I grew up on the Northside. My parents gave me and my brother many lectures about the dangers of the Southside. You know, just bedtime stories to scare all the Northside children into being good. I could roll my eyes forever at this but, it is what it is I guess. The town has been in disarray for a while now. Who knows what started it? Was it Jason’s murder? The Black Hood? Southside being torn apart bit by bit via the Lodges? There’s enough evidence to support each of these. The tension now was most likely due to the newest event; Midge’s death. Either way, I’ve just tried to keep my head down and be a good little Northsider.
It’s been a while since Southside High closed down resulting in an influx of new leather clad students. Of course the leather was stripped right away. Oh, there’s that eye roll again. It’s easy to see the prejudice and hate between the two sides within Riverdale High. The bulldogs were eager to get their teeth into the serpents any chance they got. This much could definitely be seen as I saw Reggie and a bunch of bulldogs rush into a room that was known to be the serpent hang out. Being nosy was always my downfall, so I trailed behind them. “Which one of you reptiles was screwing Midge Klump?” Reggie yelled into the room. The serpents straightened up at the intrusion. “What the hell is going on? This is a private meeting!” Jughead being the assumed leader confronted the bulldogs. Reggie ignored him and looked straight into the group at the desks. “I’m guessing it was you, Sweet Pea.”  The accused serpent walked up behind Jughead and placed his hand on his shoulder. Archie tried to diffuse the situation. “Reggie, that’s enough.” I guess no one was willing to listen. “You ass, I didn’t even know Midge.” Sweet Pea defended himself. It was a simple defense that could’ve been left there. But with the serpents and bulldogs nothing was ever simple. “But yeah, I get why she wouldn’t want fleas from you mangy bulldogs!” Reggie lunged at the serpent which caused both sides to start yelling and shoving. I was too close to an individual and I was shoved into the door frame. Archie and Jughead were in the middle of it. Jughead yelled for them to stop fighting and the two groups split with their respective leaders. Before more damage was done, I rushed out the door as quietly as I could. Curse me for being nosy, I winced in pain. The day went by a lot quicker since there were no more incidents. Walking out to the parking lot, I saw my brother sitting in his car. Once I reached the car, I jumped in. “How was your day?” He tried to make civil conversation. “Oh, you know it was fine. Funny thing was that this morning I saw a couple pups trying to fight with a few snakes.” I glanced at him as he clenched his jaw. “Reggie, what’s going on?” “It’s nothing you have to worry about, Y/N.” He saw the annoyed look I gave him. He hesitated before continuing, “We found out that Midge was sleeping with a serpent behind Moose’s back.” You groaned. “So, of course, you have to rush in and get into a pissing match with them. Even though it was Moose’s girlfriend who died. It was Moose who was betrayed. Nothing to do with you!” My voice grew in volume as I went on. He always did this. Any excuse to jump at their throats. “We, Bulldogs, are a pack!” I scoffed which pushed Reggie even more. “A pack you’re a part of!” “Please, Reggie. Do not start that shit with me.” “What? it’s true. We’re family Y/N/N. The bulldogs will protect you. So, I’d be careful about what you say. Some people may start calling you a uh, serpent sympathizer.” Wow, my eyes just kept rolling. “You sure that’s what they’ll call me Reg? Not the other term you love more. What was it? Oh yeah, a serpent slut.” I sneered at him. He parked in our driveway and I jumped out of the car before he could respond. I slipped off my shoes and rushed into my room. My bed was inviting me to take a nap and never wake up. Luckily today was my day off and I tend to do my homework in class, this was partially possible. Before I knew it, I was falling asleep. Of course, my body didn’t want to cooperate with my plan of sleeping forever because I woke up a few hours later. Red numbers shone bright in my dark room. 11:52 PM. I groaned as I rolled out of bed. My muscles were extremely stiff and it pained me to walk to the kitchen. When I got there, I noticed Reggie because he was making noise at the dining table. “What the hell are you doing?” Reggie quickly threw his jacket on the table to hide what he was doing. “Yeah, that doesn’t quell my suspicions.” “Leave it alone, Y/N/N. You won’t like the answer.” “You bet your ass I won’t! But you’re lucky that right now I’m prioritizing food over your stupidity.” I grabbed some food from the fridge and went back to my room. It wasn’t until I was getting ready for school that I heard Reggie. He put a plate of eggs and toast in front of me. I looked up at him and he sighed. “Mom and Dad, uh they had to go to the office early.” “Of course.” I grumbled. “I know it sucks but it’s the reason we have the life we have. Remember it could be worse.” He continued putting food on a plate for himself. “We could be Southsiders?” I asked sarcastically. “Exactly,” He deadpanned. “Now eat up we’re running late.” The car ride was a lot quieter than the last one. As usual Reggie dropped me off at the bakery by the school so I could buy my favorite coffee. I always insisted on walking the rest of the way to school. Reggie had his sports and brawls as an outlet and this was mine. By the time I got to school, my cup was almost done and I had about five minutes before the bell rang. The sight I encountered as I stepped into the hallway was unexpected. Dark Circle flyers were posted on every inch of it. I rushed over to Reggie’s locker. People were still crowding the corridor and I am not one to cause a scene but I was so fed up with Reggie’s antics. “Are you kidding me?” I approached Reggie. He started looking around which had me scoffing. “Y/N,” He spoke lowly, “Leave it alone.” “Oh, so this is what you were up to last night!” People started glancing at us. If I was paying more attention, I would’ve noticed a group of serpent’s among those people. “Y/N, I said leave it alone now!” He started yelling. I took a step back. Regret flashed across his face but I didn’t care. I pivoted and headed to my first class. I successfully avoided my brother for the rest of the day. “Y/N, wait up.” I turned to see Reggie. He threw his keys at me. “I have something to do right now so I’ll catch a ride with Moose. Uh, and Y/N/N, I’m sorry.” He hugged me but I didn’t say anything to him just looked at the keys. He nodded and left. I went home, cleaned, and did some homework. Then I got ready for my shift at Pop’s. It wasn’t the most glamorous job a Mantle could have but it was a job I got on my own and the money earned was mine. I looked down at my arm and side to see that my skin was bruising from yesterday. I sighed and pulled on my uniform. A normal dinner rush came and went and I still had about 30 minutes left of my shift. Majority of the tables were empty. I went around to the occupied tables and asked if anyone needed anything. This led me to the last table where a leather clad serpent sat. “Ah, it’s refreshing seeing you back in your skin!” I stood in front of him. He glanced up at me and I finally got a good look at his face. “Hey, you’re uh Sweet Pea right?” “Yeah, what do you want?” I was a bit taken back at his coldness. “Um, I’m actually here to ask what you want! Is there anything you need?” I pulled my notebook out and he chuckled at me. “I’ll have a cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate shake.” His tone was not any sweeter. I told him it’d be right up and went to go put in the order. I noticed FP and Jughead chatting at the bar. From what I can see, it doesn’t look to be a fun conversation. I must have zoned off for a while because Pop rang the bell for Sweet Pea’s order. This was the last thing I had to do before my shift ended so when I placed his food in front of him I sat down across from the tall serpent. He looked up at me and scoffed. “What do you want now, Northsider?” I studied him for a bit. His serpent tattoo was actually visible now that he wasn’t wearing a turtleneck. Bruising on his jaw caught my eye. “What happened to your face?” “Nothing.” “Really bruised up jaw, split lip, and it’s nothing.” “I’m fine” He kept eating his fries. “You don’t look fine.” Like I said, I was nosy and didn’t know when to stop. “Then stop looking, Northsider.” I groaned. “Please enough with this Northside-Southside crap.” He rolled his eyes. “Right. We’re gonna sit here and pretend we’re the same.” I just shrugged at him and snatched a fry from his plate. “I don’t know. We could have more things in common than you think.” “Sure. So tell me what would a Northside princess who has the picture perfect family, a nice house, probably some purebred dog, and is dating a star jock have in common with me, a lowlife Southside Serpent that mommy and daddy probably warned you about.” He sneered. “Well, one not a princess. I know, that was disappointing for me when I found out too.” He scoffed at my response. “Two not so picture perfect, I mean maybe a bit photoshopped but no not perfect. Don’t own any pets. I’ll give you the nice house because I mean a broken clock is right at least twice a day. And dating a star jock” I scoffed this time “Reggie would never let a bulldog near me.” “So you’re not dating Reggie?” Sweet Pea looked so confused while I laughed. “Hell no! Reggie’s my brother.” “Huh, didn’t see that one coming. Well Northsider, if you wanted me to even consider us being more than Northside-Southside, then maybe you shouldn’t have said you were a Mantle.” I rolled my eyes at him.  “Because the families we’re born into defines us right?” He dropped my gaze.  “What the hell happened?” He leaned in to examine my arm. “Nothing” I tried to hid my arm from him. “It doesn’t look like nothing.” He insisted. “It’s nothing like your split lip and bruised jaw is nothing.” I sassed back at him. He gave me a smirk. “I got into it with some bulldogs.” I tensed up and he noticed. “Your uh brother and Moose.” He admitted. “I have a bad habit of being nosy. I saw Reggie walking into the serpent’s meeting room and I followed. It got crazy everyone shoving people, someone knocked into me and I hit the door jam pretty hard.” “Sorry about that. Guess it was kind of my fault” He looked up into my eyes from his crouched position. “Um, it, uh, wasn’t your fault. Reggie shouldn’t have been so quick to accuse you. But yeah, saying he had fleas probably wasn’t the smartest of moves.” We both laughed at this. There was a small lull. “So, Mr. Lowlife Southside Serpent who mommy and daddy did warn me about, tell me do we have anything in common.”
“Well, I don’t have any pets either but trust me that doesn’t mean we’re best friends now.” “What about your family?” “What about it?” He got defensive “Nothing you don’t want to tell me.” I answered honestly. We just stared at each other a moment longer. “Parents aren’t in the picture. Haven’t been for a while. So no, family we’re born into doesn’t define us. But what family are you choosing, Princess? I’ve already chosen mine.” He money down for the meal and was about to walk away but looked back at me.  “Look, I got to go but, um I uh didn’t- didn’t mind this.” He gestured towards the table. I gave him a big smile. “Until next time then.” He nodded. “Until next time.” Sweet Pea walked out and my phone began to ring. “Yes, Reggie.?” “I thought your shift ended a while ago?” I glanced out the window and saw Sweet Pea speeding off on his bike. “Uh yeah, Pops needed a bit of extra help so I stayed a bit longer. I’m on my way now.” I lied. No way was Reggie gonna approve of who I was hanging out with. But hey, I have to choose my family at some point don’t I?

FP Jones/Andrew’s Family/Riverdale imagines - Oh Dear Part 24
Tumblr media
A/N: There is still so much to come after this. The plans I’ve got...
MASTERLIST LINK (HERE)
Overall Summary: You’re Archie’s old sister and you have a thing for a certain serpent
This chapter: Based on season 2 episode 12 - With the head still missing and the trailer park being evicted, tension builds.
Pairing: Reader x FP Jones, Sister!Reader x Archie Andrews, Daughter!Reader x Fred Andrews
Word count: 2,898
Warnings: None really, some strong language, mentions of violence.
Things had been a little tense with the cops crawling all over the Southside searching for the head.
You knew you should keep your distance with all the drama but you couldn’t help yourself from popping into the Wyrm after school.
“What are you doing here?” Fp asked, he was still in his Pop’s uniform but had his Serpent jacket over the top.
“I just saw the sheriff leave. He still searching for the head?” You kissed Fp lightly before replying.
“Yeah.” Fp grumbled.
“Do you think it could have been one of our own that did it?” You asked, pulling yourself up to sit on the bar top next to Fp.
“I don’t know. I hope not, but with Jug’s article, who knows? It could've sparked some pent up anger. I’m gonna call a meeting if things get much worse.” Fp explained.
“And are you okay?” You could see the dark circles under the man’s eyes from miles off and it worried you.
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine.” Fp tried to push away your anxiety but it didn’t help. You reached forward and stroked the back of his neck.
“I do worry.” You whispered, sending him a small smile which made a warmth pool on his chest. “I better get going. I’ve got the shift before yours tonight and I’m gonna be late.” You slid off the bar top and sighed.
“Alright.” Fp held onto your hand as you walked away and you pretended to roll your eyes. “Drive safe.” Fp gave your hand a little squeeze before he let you go.
Your shift went by perfectly fine like always and you ended up almost going straight to bed when you got home but when you got up in the morning. It was as if someone had died with the amount of missed calls and texts from the Serpents on your phone.
Fp had called an emergency meeting and you knew you’d have to get there early after what had happened to the Southside.
“Hey, I got here as fast as I could.” You placed your hand on Fp’s shoulder to get him to turn around. “You alright?”
Fp placed a hand on his hip whilst the other rubbed his stubbled cheeks as he shook his head.
“I can’t believe it. I can’t believe they’re kicking us out.” Fp sounded beyond pissed off. You scoffed and shook your head also.
“They’ve used the head as a way to worm you all out.” You stated. “You need to prove that isn’t wasn’t us.”
“God dammit!” Fp slammed his hand down on the pool table of the Wyrm and you had to stop yourself from jumping back a little. “Everyone should be here soon enough and then we’ll know.” Fp grumbled, leaning on the pool table to avoid looking at you.
“Look, Fp, if they still kick you out before the head is found then you know you can stay at mine. My dad would let you stay in a heart beat and––” You suggested but Fp turn around, his demeanour much calmer and he interrupted you.
“Hey, hey, no. It’s fine, I won’t need to stay at yours. Thank you for the offer, kid.” Fp ran his hands down your arms and you caught his fingers with your own.
“But if you do need somewhere...”
“I got you. I know.” Fp let go of your hands when he heard the door of the bar open and the Serpent’s started to flood in.
You situated yourself by Toni and Jughead when you saw them enter the bar and after it seemed like everyone was in the bar, Fp stood up to talk.
“We all got the eviction notices, but I swear to you No one is goin' anywhere. But the heat's been on us since Pickens Day and they're using that damn statue as an excuse to turn it up. But if we're gonna fix this, I gotta ask: Is anyone in this room responsible for cutting off Pickens' head?” Fp asked the Serpents. You looked around the room to see if you could spot anyone who looked suspicious but Serpents had tough skin and you knew that.
“Why don't you ask your son what he has to say?” Tall Boy swaggered forward, gaining your attention and everybody else’s over to him.
“What is your problem with me, Tall Boy?” Jughead glowered at the man.
“You wrote the article that started this mess. You and your posse fired the opening shot at Pickens Day.” Tall Boy confronted Jug.
“It was a peaceful protest, Turncoat.” Toni argued with the older man.
“That accomplished nothing. So what's to say that you and your boyfriend didn't go back that night with a ladder and hacksaw?” Tall Boy only fought back. You made eye contact with Fp just as Jughead bolted forward.
“Hey! We didn't do it. Hell, Tall Boy, you're the tallest guy in this room. You wouldn't even need a ladder.” Jughead squared up to Tall boy causing you to take a step forward.
“Jughead, Tall Boy, The last thing we need right now is to turn on each other.” Fp grabbed hold of Jughead’s leather jacket.  “Hey, we'll find a way out of this.” He assured Jug before facing the rest of the bar again. “Now, if no one has any information about the missing head then meeting adjourned.”
You waited with your arms folded across your chest as Fp made his way down to you.
“Go on, get outta here.” Fp encouraged you to leave as the others did.
“Are you sure? Things still seem pretty heated around here.” You gave Tall Boy a sideways glance as he glared at you and Fp stood together.
“I’m sure. Tall Boy just needs proof that Jug didn’t do it.” Fp did the same by looking over at the man.
“Well, let’s hope that proof comes up sooner rather than later.”
Tumblr media
You wish you had bit your tongue later that day when ‘proof’ came along that didn’t exactly help Juggy’s case.
Now it wasn’t proof that Jughead cut off the head of the state and it didn’t matter because you and Fp genuinely believed that Jughead didn’t do it. However, it was proof to the other Serpents that Jughead was stupid and rational enough to maybe of done it.
All you received was a text message from Fp to get to the Wyrm right then and boy, weren’t you one for good timing...
You regretted walking through the door the moment you did. The moment you saw the blonde she-devil herself.
You closed the door to the Wyrm quietly and snuck over to where you could see a gathering of Serpents.
“That used to be my Serpent tattoo, until your son sliced a chunk outta my arm and left me bleeding in a ditch in Greendale.” You stepped out when you heard her voice and saw her arm.
Penny looked up and smirked at the sight of you. You just crossed your arms across your chest to try and seem like you weren’t threatened by her when it fact you were terrified she was here.
“ But I'm still willing to help the Serpents. Tall Boy showed me those eviction notices. They're legit. Luckily, I can think of about 41 ways to stall the process. And I'm talking years.” Penny explained, her eyes kept flickering to you as she did and you felt smaller and smaller every time she met your glare.
“What's your price, Penny?” Fp asked, you could see the thunder behind this eyes as he tried to remain calm.
“Blood for blood. An eye for an eye. I want back in with the Serpents and I want him kicked out. Oh, yeah, one last thing I want his tattoo carved off. And I want to do it myself. With a dirty knife.” Penny smiled the kind of smile which made your stomach churn and you forced yourself to move towards the group of Serpents so you weren’t behind Jughead; even though it was hard with your feet feeling like breeze blocks.
“Dad...” Jughead went to defend himself but Fp snapped.
“No, Jug! Go home. You’ve done enough already.”
“But––” Jughead closed his mouth at the sight of his dad’s intense glare and left the bar.
“Penny, I can’t just let you back into the Serpents and I can’t just kick Jughead out.” Fp tried to come up with an excuse to keep Jughead in the Serpents and keep him from being mutilated himself.
“Why the hell not?!” Penny’s voice rose.
“Because you’re the one who turned us into drug mules, Penny!” Fp challenged her with his own volume.
“And that makes it okay for your son to take a pound of flesh?!” Penny scoffed, shaking her head.
“No, it doesn’t make it alright but he’s a kid, Penny!” Fp shot to his feet and turned his back on Penny. “He’s just a kid.”
“A kid that is only causing problems for all of us, Fp!” Tall Boy stood up for Penny by shooting down Jug.
“Don’t act like he’s the only Serpent who’s ever stirred the pot for us all.” Fp had to control himself from pinning Tall Boy to the wall and you could see that.
“Can’t he just be punished without being thrown out?” You asked,
“You don’t get a say in this, Princess, you’re not even a real Serpent.”Penny shot you down immediately which only riled you up.
“I am more of a Serpent then you’ll ever be.” You growled.
“Please! You don’t even live on the Southside and one night stands at sunny side don’t count.” Penny threw her head back in amusement and you felt yourself shake with anger.
“I suggest we take a vote. Not everyone is here and it’s unfair to make this decision now.” Toni spoke up.
“Toni’s right. We’ll hold a meeting, we’ll discuss what’s happened and see what everyone else thinks.” Fp saw this as the only chance he was gonna get so he took it.
“A vote?!” Penny seemed outraged.
“Yes, Penny, a vote. We’ll get all the Serpents in and they can decide what to do with the both of you because quite frankly, Penny, you’re no saint either.” And with that, Fp shut her up.
The whole bar waited for Penny to leave before anyone started speaking.
“Did you know?!” Fp pulled you to one side and put both hands either side of you on the wall he had backed you up against.
“No, of course not.” You were a little offended he would even ask but he didn’t care.
Fp took a second to search your eyes to see if your lying but he knew you were telling the truth deep down.
“That kid...” Fp bawled his hand into a fist against the wall and looked down.
“I’m sure he has a reason for what he did. I’m not saying what he did was okay but there’s always a reason.” You tried to help Jug out a little.
“He better have a damn good reason for this.” Fp snarled, before pulling away from you. You tried to catch his arm as you called his name. “Back off, (Y/n). This isn’t something you can fix.” He tore his arm away from you and stormed out.
You groaned and fell back against the wall in frustration.
Tumblr media
You pulled up outside your house and sighed, leaning back in your seat and closing your eyes.
It took you a couple minutes to build up the strength to exit the car. You knew your dad and Archie would be inside and you didn’t exactly want to speak to either of them.
You finally exited your car and locked it but something was stopping you going up to the house.
You felt a pair of eyes on you and it didn’t take you long to spot Alice Cooper watching you from afar.
You met her eyes and the question of whether she could sense something was going on between you and Fp came to your head. She was a journalist after all and you knew that her and Fp had a past.
You were the one to break eye contact and turn to walk inside.
And in that moment, you decided you didn’t want to be just another Alice Cooper.
“You heading to Veronica’s conformation?” Fred asked you as he sipped a coffee in the kitchen.
You had only come down to the kitchen to get a coffee for yourself before you got ready to go to Pop’s. You had to work the day shift before the Serpent’s meeting that evening.
“No, I’m not friendly enough with the Lodges to get an invite. I’ve got work all day anyways.” You informed him as you poured yourself a cup.
“With all these hours your working, it could be enough to start paying rent.” Your dad joked to hide the fact that he didn’t like you constantly being out the house and never seeing him anymore.
“I could but I’m saving up to put you in a good retirement home, old man.” You smiled at the man as you left the kitchen.
“Good to know one of my kids is gonna look after me!” Fred called back to you as you headed back upstairs.
Now, you’d be lying if you said you weren’t worried throughout the course of the day about Jughead and Penny’s fate in the Serpents.
You hated feeling powerless and that’s exactly how Penny made you feel. You admit you’re a strong girl but Penny had horns and a tail and that was something different.
You arrived at the Whyte Wyrm after changing from your work clothes to find Fp wasn’t there. Apart of you told you it was because he didn’t want to see his son get voted out of the Serpents but something else told you there was a different reason for it. Fp was a fighter and he wouldn’t let Jughead get kicked out so easily.
And just before the vote started, to no surprise, Fp rocked up with a solution to the dilemma.
“Stop the damn vote.”Fp demanded before forcing Tall Boy to take a seat.
“What the hell were you doing at the dump last week, Tall Boy?” Fp asked the Serpent.
“I don't know what you're talking about.” Tall Boy tried to play it off.
“I'm talkin' about you cutting the head off the Pickens' statue and stashing it at the dump where you were seen, dumbass. So start spilling!” Fp called him out.
“Why'd you do it? Someone put you up to this?” Jughead neared Tall Boy, looking down on him as he questioned him.
“What's the Northsider doing here? This is Serpent business, it's on Serpent land.” Tall Boy referred to Betty who was stood to the side.
“She's here because she's one of us.” Jughead didn’t even look at Betty as he said it but you one who meant it.
“You haven't answered my son's question: Why'd you do it?” Fp positioned himself behind Tall Boy to threaten him.
“Cause I'm tired of seeing the Serpents goin' soft under your rule. Then Hiram Lodge came by, wanting to stir up some trouble. He said if I took the head, he'd get McCoy and the cops to swarm all over us, 'cause some chaos.” Tall Boy knew he couldn’t keep lying much longer so confessed.
“So Hiram Lodge asked you to start a mutiny and you helped him, why?” Jughead couldn’t believe what he was hearing and neither did a lot of the other Serpent’s in the bar.
You couldn’t believe the guy that helped you get settled into the Serpents was now the one trying to tear them apart.
“I figured it'd be my chance to get rid of you, sunshine. And if I got rid of him, I could get rid of you, too, FP.” Tall Boy admitted cruelly.
“And then, what, you'd become leader?” Fp rose to his feet with his hands curled into fists. You wouldn’t have been surprised if he beat him right there and then.
“He and Penny.” Jughead scoffed. “ You're a Judas, Tall Boy, and an idiot.”
“You betrayed your own kind, Tall Boy. You broke Serpent Law. What should we do with this lowlife?” Fp asked the Serpent’s around him.
“Strip him of his jacket. Exile him.” Jughead answered.
“All those in favour?” Fp called a vote.
You hesitated to raise your hand just because of the man Tall Boy used to be but now it’s over. Tall Boy tried to get rid of Fp and in the end, you couldn’t forgive anyone if they tried to do that.
“Looks like this piece of trash and I got a long ride ahead of us.” Fp announced as the rest of the Serpent’s voted for Tall Boy to go.
You watched Jughead and Betty leave the Whyte Wyrm as Fp dealt with Tall Boy.
“Looks like things turned out okay.” You shrugged as Fp walked over to you.
“Well, thank god the head was found otherwise I don’t know if Jug would still be here tonight.” Fp scratched the back of his head and glanced back over to where Jughead was stood before he left.
“Hmm.” You nodded, “Well, goodnight, Fp.”

On Impossibility - 6
Chapter 1   Chapter 2    Chapter 3    Chapter 4   Chapter 5  Chapter 7  Chapter 8 Chapter 9
A popular!Logan and loser!Roman high school AU based on @2pointomg’s idea with eventual Prinxiety.
impossible
ɪmˈpɒsɪb(ə)l
adjective
·       not able to occur, exist, or be done.
Eg. It is impossible to fund both the sports and drama programmes with the school’s limited budget.
·       very difficult to deal with.
Eg. The situation which Logan Sanders, Student Body President, is in after he convinced the school board to cut the unsuccessful drama programmes is impossible.
·       (of a person) very unreasonable.
Eg. Roman Prince.
To Roman, nothing is impossible. Not following his older brother Patton to acting college, not being a loser taking on the school’s popular Student Body President and definitely not writing and performing an epic school play with no money and six cast and crew members.

So close. They were so close.
‘Then this I say, oh noble knight, if you let go of your anger then you could be great. Give up the light – it is so comfortable here in the dark. Vines to hold you close, the canopy to shade you, thorns to protect you. Does the light not burn you?’
Kyle had a blanket cape round his shoulders and was jutting his chin confrontationally towards Roman. His pose was perfect, he knew his lines inside out, and his emphasis was just as Roman had imagined it when writing the speech late at night in his bedroom.
Roman suddenly broke out of character, running his hand through his hair. ‘That was great – really, really. Could we run it again? There’s just – you’ve just got to really feel it.’ Roman hated to be that guy – Kyle had been great, and their priority was to get a feel for the new set and adjust their blocking for the stage. But he had to be perfect. Roman would make him perfect no matter what it took, for although he knew the role was one which stretched his friend he had faith in him to get it right. All through workshopping a boy called Raphael had dominated Ombretto, throwing him into dramatic confrontation with Rosso and drawing him back into introspective monologues. To be honest, it had hurt Roman greatly when Raphael left ‘due to creative differences’ and Kyle had to be pulled from the role of Giallo, but he much preferred his friend’s delivery because he had learnt from Patton the importance of an actor subordinating themselves to the character.
It was six o’clock on a Saturday night and they had been there all day assembling the set, but Kyle ran the lines again - with more feeling. It wasn’t good enough for Roman, but then again hardly anything was. They moved on and he saw Talyn give Kyle encouraging finger guns from the wings. Kyle returned a small smile. Everyone was tired, but Roman had asked them to run through the whole thing again, so they had. While Patton’s entire year would go to the moon and back for him, Roman’s few friends would paint the Kuiper belt rainbow if he asked them to.
They should have gone home and caught up on homework after putting up the set, but the beauty of the set had transported Roman into ecstasies of inspiration, and he doubted Virgil would leave until the building was shut. The boy for once in his life was not scrolling through Tumblr, listening to music or fiddling with his sweater paws. He just sat starry-eyed in the front row of the seating, hunched forward in his over-sized hoody as he tried to hide a grin behind his hands.
The set Virgil had built was amazing. Fate had finally given the theatre troupe a helping hand as Dahlia’s neighbours had spare planks of wood from a loft extension they had not technically forbidden her from taking. Virgil had understood the aesthetic of Talyn’s designs and had decided to play around with the handmade nature of the set. Basically, it looked like the child of a Victorian toy theatre and the illustrations in a book of fairy tales raised by a goth/steampunk in the hedge of thorns from Sleeping Beauty. Or that’s how Virgil had pitched it. Originally there had been a scaffolding tower, but they had to improvise with the tall metal balcony from West Side Story Patton had once sung on so happily.
Virgil was weirdly proud of himself. He tried to be self-deprecating about his set, however he couldn’t help but be happy with it. Logan had always been complimentary about his work, but he did not have a great understanding of art, and Virgil had suspected the positive feedback was a key bullet point in the Word document ‘How to Get Self-doubting Friend to Apply for College.’ In contrast his new friends had very high standards, so a single nice word from Talyn would go around his head for days and days. Roman had been extremely exacting – a picture of the cliff from the Nightmare before Christmas had literally been ripped off Virgil’s mood board because the smoothness of it ‘didn’t fit the vibe, the emotion’ of the play – and now he was playing in the set like a kid in a candy store. Virgil understood it now, Logan and Roman’s drive for perfection. Oh sure, Logan was a textbook perfectionist and Roman was slapdash and confident in his own abilities, but in his own way the actor was just as meticulous about his work. The play – not yet named because there was not something which fit it well enough – was his baby. And while the set was a part of that brainchild it was Virgil’s own – baby was a weird comparison, it was just…he just had lots of feelings about it he hadn’t had for anything else before, OK? The exercise in 3D space was interesting.
At 22:00, a janitor finally came around. He peeked his head into the auditorium, then walked into it fully. Kyle was perched on the balcony, which was festooned with sequinned purple fabric vines, and Roman was kneeling in centre stage entreating him to come down, framed by chaotic brambles the size of tree trunks and twisted metal spider webs throwing bizarre shadows onto the wall behind him, covered with sheer green fabric donated by Mrs Damon. He looked at Virgil, who was entranced by the scene.
‘Hey kid, you part of this?’ he spoke quietly, not wanting to disturb the actors. Virgil looked up at him and nodded with a grin.
‘Good on you, kid. I told you that you shouldn’t use your drawing skills for rude caricatures. And now look at you!’
Virgil was rapidly beginning to lose his sense of mystery and magic. ‘That…that was not me. I told you, and I told the principal that that drawing wasn’t by me.’
The janitor took off his hat and sat next to Virgil in a fatherly manner. ‘If you didn’t draw that cartoon, then why was it on your locker, heh?’
Trying to be absorbed into the tear in the seat covering, Virgil gave the man an exasperated look.
‘Well, I’m here to ask you guys to leave. You need to sleep!’ replied the janitor brightly, completely unfazed by Virgil’s silence. He leaned in even closer to him. ‘How long is there left?’
‘Fif-een min’tes.’ was mumbled from behind a wall of purple hair.
‘Fine. You guys promise to look up, then you can have the time.’
‘Thks.’
‘Careful of that balcony. Bit rickety.’ With that Malcom headed into the hallway again, marvelling at the impact that simple sentence of his had made on that punk kid. Permanent sharpie and Tipp-ex on that locker as well. Sometimes kids just need a bit of self-belief.
Exactly fifteen minutes later, Roman bounded off the stage and thundered up to Virgil. Ignoring the fact that Virgil was putting into practice everything he’d learnt trying to disengage Malcom, he grabbed his hands and pulled him to his feet. ‘A cheer for Virgil!’ he yelled to the others.
There were scattered cheers from the cast and crew as they cleared up. ‘Visionary, visionary!’ shouted Roman, throwing his hands in the air.
Virgil blushed. ‘What does that even mean?’
Roman threw himself down on the gangway, pulling the emo down beside him. ‘One who has unique visions!’
Virgil looked at him sceptically. ‘I’m sure that’s not the exact definition.’
‘We can’t all be the calculator watch, can we?’ The annoyance entering Roman’s voice was jarring.
There was a beat of awkward silence as Virgil refused to forgive Roman or defend Logan.
Brightly, Roman grabbed Virgil’s hand and admired his nail polish. He looked up at Virgil and whispered, ‘Visionary, visionary.’ Over his knuckles.
Virgil recoiled and stood up. ‘What the ever-loving fuck was that?!’
Roman face-palmed. ‘It was meant to be…friendly.’
‘It was really weird! And not friendly! That was not in the realm of friendly!’
Roman rocketed to his feet, ‘Sorry to break it to you Virgil, but just because I’m gay, it doesn’t mean that I’m flirting with every straight guy I talk to!’
‘How is that-? It wasn’t- I didn’t even know that! Anyway, I’m not straight either.’
‘Well, fine. I’m not.’ Roman put his hands on his hips.
‘Fine!’
‘Fine!’
The two stood angrily staring at each other before dissolving into laughter.
‘How could you think I was straight?’ howled Roman, ‘And you’re not either? Yes!’ he punched the air.
Virgil was bent over, clutching his stomach. ‘I…I didn’t want to assume…’
Dahlia came up the gangway halfway, since the rest of it was blocked by two dorks rolling around on the floor. ‘We’re going to head, if you guys could lock up.’ Breathlessly, Roman waved her on.
Once the two came to they sat up, lounging against the seating.
Roman studiously didn’t look at Virgil as he spoke to him. ‘Your set – I love it.’
‘I know.’ The emo smirked at him, ‘you spent all evening playing in it.’
Roman’s hand shot to his chest as he gasped, ‘PLAYING! How dare you? I was acting!’ he made a point to gesture dramatically to signal his thespian talent. He put his hand down and turned to Virgil. ‘I do, though,’ he said earnestly, ‘it’s beautiful, and dark, and creepy, and fantastical, and better than I could ever have hoped for. We can do this – we can put on this play.’
Virgil’s insides twisted as he looked at the boy across from him, his face desaturated and pupils dilated by the dark. He wasn’t so sure of success. The costumes needed to be big and bold, and that meant lots of fabric and shiny things in elaborate designs. They had asked to use the black fabric which backed the curtain but had unsurprisingly been turned down, and money from rainbow T-shirt sales had covered enough for a dirndl for Margherita bought online and a shimmery brown and green leotard for the malevolent fairy (nicknamed Bob) after the set had been built, but for now the magnificent hoop skirts of the Evil Queen and flowing robe of Ombretto were impossible to realise.
‘Virgil?’
The emo snapped his eyes from Roman’s face. ‘Yeah. Let’s not count on…let’s not give on up this.’ He made eye contact again. ‘I believe in you. Or whatever. Dork.’
Roman smiled to himself a little. ‘And here I was thinking you were some massive edgelord.’
Virgil raised his eyebrows. ‘You saw my Nightmare before Christmas poster.’
‘True.’ Roman grinned, ‘But you were too cool for my Randy Newman impression.’
Virgil giggled. ‘You had a cowboy hat. And a pink plastic radio. And you were fifteen.’
‘I took it seriously! I wanted to be your friend.’ Roman emphasised each word.
‘Well, I wanted you to stop singing before I cringed myself a six-pack.’
They sat in silence for a while, neither wanting to suggest leaving.
‘I don’t know what I’m going to do with my future.’ Virgil’s head was flung back to look at the set, and his voice was soft.
Roman rolled onto his stomach, supporting his head on his hands. ‘What do you want to do?’
‘This.’
Roman put his hand on Virgil’s and smiled at him reassuringly, ‘Then do it. This is good.’
‘I…’ Virgil took a shaky breath. ‘I can’t. I’m not good enough.’
‘Virgil. I have been to four Broadway shows and twenty-three shows in other towns. I watch bootlegs like other kids watch let’s plays. I read about this stuff. I think you could easily design for a smaller show, and once you go to college…Broadway, baby.’
Virgil felt something suspiciously like hope rise to fill his chest. ‘Why would they take someone like me? From a school like this, which isn’t particularly keen on the arts, if you hadn’t noticed.’
‘Virgil – you have Mrs Damon who would write a book about you, let alone a recommendation letter. You’ve got this production, which will make one hell of an essay. The school is academic, and your grades are good. Besides, Patton did it – my older brother.’
‘I guess. But wasn’t he like some genius or something?’
It was Roman’s turn to break eye contact. ‘Yeah, he is. But we don’t need to be scholarship holders like him or anything. Just good enough.’
Virgil sat up, ‘You’re worried about acting school, princey? Big brother in New York and half-a-billion extracurriculars. Please.’
‘No extracurriculars now. But yes, of course I’m worried. I want to go to the same place as Patton, when we went to check it out with him it was…magical. These past few years it’s like he’s living every single dream I have. And I’m happy for him! I am! I’m super proud, but I don’t want to apply and be rejected, and he’ll be super nice about it…you know.’
‘Do your parents compare you a lot?’
‘No, god no.’ Roman shook his head emphatically. ‘They’re incredibly proud of both of us. It’s me. I do. And I know I shouldn’t…’
He broke off and tried to hide the fact that he was crying. The emo scooted closer and awkwardly pulled him into a loose hug, at which point Roman attached himself to Virgil’s hoodie like a baby koala.
‘Aw, jeez. Come on, dude. Don’t make me give a heartfelt speech. Just like, know, that I think you’re - good.’
‘Huh! Yeah, I am pretty good! Thanks for reminding me, J-Delightful.’ Roman pulled himself up and punched Virgil in the shoulder.
‘Alright, dudebro.’
The boy slumped again. ‘Arggggg. Now you think everything is fine!’
‘You do not look like everything is fine.’
‘Well, yeah, no.’
Virgil just wanted to paint and listen to emo music and be left alone. Why the hell was he landed with looking after overachievers?
‘Wanna come to my house tonight? We could watch Disney, or whatever. My parents would be happy I have someone to invite over.’
‘I would love that! I’ll text the old parents…Odin’s eyepatch! It’s eleven already! We’d better hurry!’
That night as Roman was spread-eagled on his bedroom floor, Virgil tried not to think of the lack of money for costumes, but they joined the usual procession of Logan’s eye bags, situations in which his set would collapse and his plan for the future which marched round his head whenever he tried to sleep.
Increasingly old-school Disney songs sung in bass, a voice passionately and loudly delivering lines or unaffectedly and quietly trying to explain ideas had echoed around his darkened bedroom too, but he preferred to not think about that.

A/N: Cheryl because Cheryl. Also half of this is just my interpretation about how the squad would meet the serpents...like most of them, I don’t know I got carried away with the start but that’s okay because I’m the one writing it so I’m allowed.
Summary: Cheryl meets the serpents for the first time, and immediately catches the attention of one girl in particular. What could go wrong?
Word Count: 3,048
Warnings:none??? there’s some smokin’ and some drinkin’, some of which can be assumed is underage but they’re in a gang so it’s to be expected yes.
“I feel like I should just say one more time that I'm not comfortable with this.” Kevin announced, pulling his coat tighter around him as he surveyed the empty street, the only light coming from flickering street lights that might deluminate at any given moment.
“It's fine, Kev.” Betty smiled softly, shrugging a little even as she hugged her own body, because of the chill in the air or her own anxieties, “Jughead said it was perfectly safe.”
“Right, Jughead the gang member said we were safe.” Cheryl snapped, tossing her hair back over her shoulder, a nervous habit she had developed.
“No offense, but this seems really dodgy.” Archie muttered, almost under his breath, and he wasn't wrong. The street, dimly lit, was in an unfriendly area, to say the least, occupied almost entirely by Serpents and other criminals, holed up in dilapidated houses that would fit in at the junkyard, chicken wire and corrugated steel fences barely held up, covered in spray painted words that had nothing nice to say. They could hear yelling from the next street over, every time someone else walked past them, comments were shouted that made most of them flinch, perhaps the only reason they weren't physically confronted was because they were known friends of Jughead, who had made himself quite popular in this community in no time at all.
“I'm not sure this is the best idea.” Veronica mumbled, curling into Archie's side, he immediately draped an arm over her protectively.
“It's the beginning of a teen horror movie and the gay guy always dies.” Kevin hissed, coming to a stop beside Betty, the rest of the group slowing with them as they approached their destination. “Right, well I wish I'd told my dad I loved him before I left tonight.” Kevin exhaled cynically as they all stared at the building in front of them.
“That's not a house… It's barely even an anything.” Cheryl said, her mouth agape as she stared at the building that was barely still standing, wooden panels boarded over the windows at the front spray painted with the most unwelcoming phrases, on the left ‘snake’s den, biters only’, and on the right ‘get in or get fucked’.  The roof tiles we're falling off before their eyes, shattering on the front porch and threatening to snap the wooden beams there, the yard was littered with bottles and bike parts some old and some so fresh they could have been tossed there moments ago.
“Maybe we should tell him we couldn't find it.” Veronica suggested innocently, clinging to Archie's offensively bright and out of place Letterman jacket.
“No, we're making this work. We said we would.” Betty swallowed the lump in her throat at her own words, this definitely wasn't how she had pictured her life with Jughead panning out, and so early too.
Before anything else could be said, Cheryl started wandering up the driveway, avoiding the wide cracks in the paving for the sake of her Louboutin stilettos, her chin held high as the approached the door, the rest of her friends scurrying behind her to catch up. There was no turning back now, and the Blossom refused to show any fear as she stepped carefully onto the porch and swung open the door, the others crowded around her.
Instantly they were hit with a wall of smoke, Betty staggered back slightly having gasped and inhaled a lungful, Archie lifted the neck of his t-shirt to cover his mouth and nose and Veronica shielded her eyes from the onslaught, Kevin turned away, and Cheryl simply waved a perfectly manicured hand in front of her face to clear the air in front of her, peering into the living area. It was crowded, people clad in black and leather all crammed onto old couches in a dimly lit room, smoking, and drinking, and laughing at each other. The youngest looked only 14 and the oldest would have been 25 at a maximum but they seemed to interact as though there wasn't a second difference in age between them. No one had seemed to notice the arrival of the group, until Cheryl cleared her throat loudly, and everything went silent, every unrecognizable eye in the room turned to her, and the group behind her, she almost flinched at the contempt in their eyes, the question running through all of their minds simultaneously that read in bold letters, ‘let them join or show them the meaning of pain?’.
Betty stepped forward then, fiddling nervously with her hands as she did so, one of the Serpents cut her off before she could even think of what to say, “Oi, that's Viper’s piece, ain't it?” He said, gruffly, the serpentine gathering seemed to relax, though the teenagers at the door didn't understand a word of what he meant.
“You Betty?” A young girl asked from her position in the lap of a much older man, tilting her head inquisitively. Betty only nodded.
Instantly the group went back to their conversations, ignoring their arrival all together, the original man who spoke up stood and walked over to them, judgmental eyes scanning over all of them quickly. “He’s this way.” He said simply, walking off down a hallway to the left, the five of them shared a look before they followed him.
Walking through the house, it was just as unpleasant on the inside as the exterior was, the kitchen wouldn't have been used since the 60’s, cupboard doors we're falling off and exposing empty shelves, the few bedrooms they passed were bare apart from old mattresses on the floors and liquor bottles strewn around.  They followed the unnamed serpent up the stairs, slowly rising above the lingering smoke that permeated the whole first floor of the house. Upstairs, every door was shut, and there we're plenty, they all had spray painted numbers across them in no discernible order. They stopped in front of 113 and he knocked twice, “Viper! Your chick’s here,” he called, looking back at the pristine teens he'd led through the house, “and she bought an army.” He sneered, walking away before the door was answered, shoulder checking Archie as he went.
The door swung open a moment later to reveal Jughead, smiling widely, a group of four or five other people in his room behind him, ignoring the new interruption. “Hey, guys!”
Jughead invited them in, and they went inside, this room was slightly homier than any other they'd seen so far, the mattress had sheets, there was an old desk in the corner with his laptop sitting on it, and there was a lamp in the corner. There was a window on the opposite side of the room, or more accurately, a hole in the wall with curtains where a window might once have been. And on the window sill, sat an older girl, nursing a cigarette and a half bottle of whiskey in a leather serpent jacket, staring out into the night. The other few people in the room we're sequestered in the corner, talking a most themselves.
“Viper, huh?” Archie finally spoke up to ease some of the awkwardness he was feeling.
“Uh, yeah, it's a nickname. Don't know why I got it but…” He trailed off, “the guys gave it to me.”
“Ahh, yes, your new friends.” Kevin mused, slightly condescendingly which caused the girl I'm the widow to look inside at the group, eyes narrowed towards Kevin before they drifted to the rest of the group, finding Cheryl almost instantly and staying there. Something Cheryl herself attempted to ignore as she looked at Jughead, awaiting his answers.
“Very welcoming people.” Veronica managed to get out sarcastically. Jughead frowned.
“They just don't know you.” He defended quickly, “I'll introduce you and they'll be fine.” He insisted. Cheryl didn't hear him, she was focussing on expelling the feeling of being stared at. The other girl's eyes boring into her relentlessly. “Come on, I'll take you now.”
“She can stay here.” Finally her voice rose from over by the window, Jug glanced back to see her pointing at Cheryl, Cheryl who was trying to act as though she wasn't frozen to her spot.
“...Y/N…” Jughead said hesitantly, almost in warning but the other girl just rose an eyebrow at him questioningly.
“She's a big girl, if she doesn't have an issue with it I don't see why you should.” She pointed out, swinging her legs back inside and flicking her cigarette butt out the window.  Jughead turned to Cheryl, she smiled tightly and nodded.
“I'll be fine.” She wasn't entirely sure what made her want to stay, it wasn't fear, if anything the fear made her want to turn and run. But she didn't. Though he was slightly confused, Jughead only nodded and carefully herded his other friends out of the room.
“I'm Y/N, obviously, I'm assuming you're Cheryl.” She grinned from across the room, standing up and slowly moving towards the redhead, “You want some?” She asked, holding out the whiskey bottle when she was close enough for Cheryl to take it.
“No, I’d like to maintain some kind of class.” Cheryl hummed back, folding her arms across for fear the other girl could see her heart beating out of her chest. She had known for most of her life that she was attracted to girls, never had she dreamed she'd be attracted to this kind of woman.
“Class?” The other girl scoffed, rolling her eyes, “On the Southside? Baby, you left ‘class’ behind when you set your first heel on my street. Now, do you want some? It'll take the edge off.”
Cheryl fought the shiver that wiggled up her spine at being called ‘baby’ by an attractive stranger, and attractive gang member at that. Her eyes flicked between the tempting eyes of the other girl, and the bottle she held out in offering before Cheryl sighed and took it, taking a swig and immediately having to squeeze her eyes shut at the burning sensation. Her eyes reopened to the smirk on the other girls face. “It's a bit more of a kick than a cruiser, isn't it princess?” Y/N teased, Cheryl smiled involuntarily.
“You should be careful with those pet names, someone might get the wrong idea.” She smirked slightly, taking another drink and fighting the urge to wince.
“The wrong idea is always more exciting than the right one.” the older girl said, her voice sly and her eyes sparkling with mischief.
“Are you flirting with me?” Cheryl asked, feigning innocence as she handed the bottle back to the other girl.
“That depends, is it working?”
“So, Cheryl…” Veronica said in a singsong voice across the booth, “How’s Y/N?”
“She's fine.” Cheryl sighed heavily, rolling her eyes, “Why?”
“Well, it's been a month since you met her and I don't think there's been a day since that you haven't seen her.” Kevin said as though it was obvious that she should be gushing about the serpent girl.
“Yes, we're friends.” She said defensively, leaning back in her seat.
“Just friends?” Veronica asked, arching one of her brows in silent questioning.
“Obviously,” the redhead scoffed, “What? Are you insinuating that I, a Blossom, would ever be involved with a Southside Serpent? Did you sustain a head injury?”
“You're such a lovely person.” Kevin mused sarcastically. Cheryl smiled and brushed down her shirt carefully.
“It's good to know we're at an understanding.” She hummed, standing slowly and picking up her purse. “I'll see you at practice in the morning.” She smiled at Veronica before exiting the diner, leaving her friends behind and wandering into the dark.
It was cold, a biting cold that made her shiver as she glanced around the parking lot before she started walking in the opposite direction to her home, keeping a quick pace until she reached a back alley, peering down it for a moment's hesitation before walking in. “You're late.” Her voice came out of the dark as she stepped closer to Cheryl, she only folded her arms across her chest indignantly.
“The fresh air is good for you.” She grinned, the older girl scoffing slightly as she shrugged off her serpent jacket, wrapping it around the redhead’s shoulders.
“Now now, no need to be a bitch.” Y/N warned softly, her arms winding around the other girl's waist and pulling her in slowly as Cheryl's hands found her way around Y/N’s neck, careful not to lose the jacket in the process.
“What can I say? It's who I am.” She shrugged, leaning in to capture the other girl's lips before she could fathom a response.
She responded immediately, backing Cheryl up to a wall and trapping her in, pressing their bodies as tightly together as they would go, their lips never losing contact as the kiss grew hungry in a matter of mere seconds. Cheryl's fingers had already begun toying with the hem of the other girl’s shirt, pulling in silent request to have it removed. Y/N broke away slightly, breathing heavily as she gripped the other girl’s hips tightly, “So needy tonight…”
“Oh shut up, I'm needy every night.” she breathed out, moving her hands back to Y/N’s collar and crashing their lips back together.
“Maybe we should go home, then.” She muttered out against the other’s lips, slipping her hands under Cheryl's shirt and watching her shiver at the touch of her cold fingers.
“Uh… Can we wait like, five minutes?” She asked softly, though her chaste kisses and roaming hands never ceased.
“Your friends are still in Pop’s?” She asked, chuckling softly and Cheryl nodded.
“Hey, you said you were okay with this being a secret…”
“Oh, it's fine. I've got the sexiest secret in Riverdale.” Her cocky smirk was something that managed to make Cheryl's blood boil and her heart beat pick up all at once, it was undoubtedly sexy and yet so infuriating which was probably an apt description for the serpentine girl herself.
They waited as Cheryl had requested, by the time they wandered back out of the alley, Veronica and Kevin weren't anywhere she could see and it settled her nerves somewhat. As they walked, she let Y/N’s arm drape around her shoulders and pull her in, the redhead resting back against her chest willingly. It was almost okay, things were almost perfect as they got nearer to Y/N’s bike.
“Hey, Cheryl!” She froze, her body going tense as Y/N’s arm slipped off her shoulders to let her turn around, Veronica and Kevin had cleared off, she had no reason to expect Archie would be out here lurking so late, and yet here he was with a stupid grin on his face.  “Looks like I'm interrupting the fun.”
“Fun? “ Cheryl snapped out, immediately on the defensive with her arms folded defiantly across her chest, “You'd call being harassed ‘fun’?”
“Why? Is she bothering you?” Archie asked, his attention moving to the other girl, Y/N only stepped back, her face blank, unreadable at having been thrown under the bus so willingly.  It may have been a secret but she didn't expect to be painted as anymore of a criminal than she was already considered, especially not for anything like this.
Cheryl paused, she didn't know how to answer that, if she said no Archie would assume something was going on, and if she said yes he'd probably attempt to fight her right here in the parking lot. “I'll be okay.” She answered, in a way she hoped was vague enough to get him to drop it.
“You sure?” He didn't seem entirely convinced, but he'd known Cheryl long enough to realise that arguing with her was probably unwise and so he opted to keep his mouth shut beyond that.
“Yeah, I was just leaving anyway.” Y/N said tightly, holding up her keys as some kind of proof.
“Really, Archie, I can handle myself.” Cheryl said, squaring her shoulders and almost glaring at him until he sighed heavily and nodded, taking a step backwards.
“I guess I'll see you later… Just, call me if you need to.” He offered, before he turned to walk away, the two girls simply waited in silence until he was out of view and Cheryl turned back to the other girl, who was standing with her arms folded across her chest and a highly unimpressed expression on her face.
“You know I hate it when you do that.” She practically growled, her eyes narrowing slightly at the short redhead, who only bit her bottom lip, something Cheryl knew got to her in all kinds of ways, “I thought you told them we were friends.”
“That's only what I told Kev and Ronnie, and I only told them that because they saw you leaving my apartment,” the only downside to living in the same building as Veronica after setting her own house on fire was how difficult it was to sneak Y/N in and out, which was the only reason she'd admitted to veronica they were even so much as friends, “the others don't know I've seen you since the party.”
“Okay whatever, but can't you find some other excuse that doesn't make me look like some predator slinking around from the wrong side of the tracks, there's enough heat on the serpents as it is.” Y/N grumbled, running her hands through her hair and ignoring the look Cheryl was giving her to try and get out of trouble, usually it worked for her but Y/N was determined this time.
“I'm sorry,” Cheryl sighed softly, wandering closer until she could grab the front of the other girl’s jacket, pulling her in slightly until they were pressed touch to each other, “is there any way you could forgive me?”
Y/N exhaled heavily, closing her eyes as she tried and failed to keep the smile off her face, eventually she opened her eyes and rested her hands delicately on the redhead’s cheeks, “You will be the death of me, I swear.” She huffed softly, kissing the tip of the other girl’s nose.
“But that's why I'm so appealing, because you have to work for it.” She grinned devilishly and Y/N rolled her eyes.
“That's totally incorrect but I'm not going to argue with you.”
“Good, that means you're learning!”

What Happened To Us?
Chapter 7: A Pep Rally without the pep
A/N: I edited this chapter myself, so please be nice haha
Read this fic on AO3
Jughead walks back into the Andrews house with his laptop tucked neatly underneath his arm. Jughead had dug through the mess that is his father's trailer and found his laptop. After spending the night and all day at the trailer he finally opened his laptop remembering that there is no wifi in the trailer. He is anxious to look through his laptop to see if he wrote anything in the past ten months that could recharge his memory.
“Hey Jug want to go to the Spring Pep Rally with us?” Jughead could think of a million other things he wants to do. The hopeful look on Archie's face makes Jughead feel bad about saying no.
Jughead’s attention turns outside as he hears Veronica's voice. Veronica and Betty are walking down the street both wearing River Vixens uniforms.
An image of blood running down Betty’s legs while wearing the uniform floods Jughead’s mind, his reoccurring nightmare.
“You don’t have to go if you don’t want to.” Honestly Jughead does not want to spend anymore alone time getting lost in his thoughts of trying to connect the dots of the past year. He could use a distraction.
“No it’s okay. I’ll go.” Jughead answers.
They walk outside and the girls are not too far ahead of them.”Betty, Veronica.” Archie calls after them. The two girls stop and turn back. Jughead notices that Betty instantly turns her head away from them. Veronica grabs her hand and squeezes it.
“Jughead I didn’t think you were the type who likes going to Pep rally’s?” Veronica asks.
Jughead can’t deny that the cheerleading uniform fits Betty's body very nicely. Even though he doesn’t know how he feels about Betty after what he’s found out, he is really proud of her for making the cheerleading squad. Betty had dreamed of being a cheerleader for years. Just like Polly. Jughead remembers last year when he was in one of his favorite spots at school, the gym.
There is a dark corner at the top of the bleachers that Jughead likes to go hide in during lunch and sometimes after school. The River Vixens would come in and practice. They never noticed him.
During the first few weeks, Cheryl Blossom held tryouts for the team. Jughead wrote without distraction in his dark corner, until he heard the familiar sweet voice he would stop anything for.
“Hi I am Betty Cooper.” Betty says nervously. She is wearing the white and yellow softball tee and black shorts.
“Show us what you got.” Cheryl says judgmentally.
A big smile appears on Betty's pink lips. She begins her routine and Jughead cannot take his eyes off of her. Her blonde ponytail bouncing, her green eyes are filled with hope, and her long legs are kicking in the air. Jughead had no idea what she was chanting because he was so taken aback by how amazing she is.
“That’s enough.” Cheryl cuts Betty off. The shimmer of hope leaves Betty’s eyes.
“Looks like the cheerleading talent does not run in the family.” Betty’s hands curl into fists. Betty maintains a straight face, but the sparkle in her eyes are completely gone. “Very Betty Draper season 5. You have a long way to go before you are even considered River Vixen material.” Jughead looks over at Polly who is being very quiet. Jughead expected her to speak up and defend her little sister.” Better luck next year Betty.”
Betty nods.”Thanks for your time.” How dare she treat Betty like that? How dare Polly not stand up for her little sister? Betty doesn’t deserve this.
Betty quickly makes her exit.
He is tempted to run after her and tell her how she is so much better than Cheryl Blossom's dumb cheerleading squad, but instead he sits down realizing he gave up his friend privileges.
Jughead heard sniffling coming from behind the bleachers. He looked down to see Betty hiding underneath the bleachers with tears streaming down her face. Jughead’s heart broke at the site of his old best friend crying. She deserves so much better. He may have ruined his friend privileges with Betty, but that doesn’t mean he can’t stand up for what is right.
Jughead packs up his laptop unable to stand the site of seeing Betty Cooper upset. He cannot resist the urge. The many times that Betty Cooper has stood up for him plays in his mind. He would always be in her corner even if it was behind the scenes.
Jughead walks right past Cheryl letting himself be seen. “This is a closed tryout.” Cheryl says spotting Jughead.
“You might want to tell that to them.” Jughead looks at the boys playing basketball on the other side of the gym
“Don’t let me catch you in here during my practice again perv.” He rolls his eyes.
“Oh because I totally get off watching you bully girls on your amateur dance team. Get over yourself Blossom.” The rest of the River Vixens look shocked that Jughead is taking on Cheryl.
“Get out of here freak before I report you to Weatherbee.”
“Oh and I can update him about how the captain of the cheerleading squad refers to her teammates as “sluts” and bullies girls who work up the courage to try out.” One of the River Vixens giggles. Jughead turns his head to Polly who is looking down at the ground..”And you- you let Cheryl be awful to your little sister. How can you just sit there and let Cheryl hurt Betty like that?”
“Jughead-”
“I don’t care what you have to say, save it for Betty. Besides who cares what the freak thinks. I better let you ladies get back to your practice, so Cheryl can go home and study Mean Girls.”
Jughead walks out of the gym leaving a stunned Cheryl Blossom in his wake. He sighs knowing that he just did exactly what he hates, he put a target on his back. Jughead’s number one high school goal was to slide by unnoticed. It only took a few weeks for him to fail. He then remembers the tears in Betty’s eyes and he knows it was worth it.
Veronica and Archie begin holding hands and whispering to each other leaving Jughead alone with Betty. He made the decision that the next time he saw Betty he would confront her about his phone, but all he can remember is her crying behind the bleachers at the moment.
She is avoiding his eye contact. Jughead wonders if it’s because she feels guilty about holding onto his phone? She has hid it this entire time, so that can’t be it. She is acting different than usual.
“You made the cheerleading squad this year?” Jughead asks trying to break the awkward silence.
“Ya. Thanks to Veronica.”
“Congratulations Betty. I know how much being a River Vixen means to you.” A small smile escapes Betty’s pink lips. He hopes she is remembering the same memory as him when he and Archie walked into her room where she was trying on her sister’s cheerleading uniform. Betty always dragged Jughead and Archie to Riverdale football games as kids. Betty would mimic the Riverdale cheerleaders in the stands until she memorized the routines. She has a scrap book of River Vixens aesthetics. She has a book for everything. She wouldn’t be Betty Cooper if she didn’t.
“Thanks Jughead.” Her answer is stern. He half expects her to call him ‘Juggie’, but her body language is stand offish and the look on her face says that she wants to be anywhere but near him.
“So I ran into Sheriff Keller yesterday. He asked me if he could have my phone back to look through a few more things.” Jughead watches both Betty and Archie’s body language immediately change. Both stiffened at his words. Now he is not sure who is the one lying to him.
“We should go we’re almost late. Cheryl will not pleased if we are late.” Betty says. She grabs Veronica’s hand before she can speak.”Let’s go.” Betty gives Veronica a stern look.
“Bye boys. We’ll grab burgers after.” Veronica says cheerfully.
“Good luck girls.” Archie says to them.
“Okay what was that?” Veronica says trying to keep up with Betty’s power walking.
“I can’t do it. I can’t be around him and act like everything is fine. It’s too much. I could barely do it before, but that’s when I had hope for us.” Betty says sadly.
“There is still hope for you two B.”
“Then why was he kissing that girl?” Betty bites her lip, so that she can hold back the tears.
"He is confused. He doesn't know that you are his girlfriend. He knows that he had a girlfriend. He asked Archie and I yesterday if he had one?"
"What?" Betty cannot believe the words out of Veronica's mouth. Jughead asked if he had a girlfriend? He was kissing the Southside girl last night. She is edgy and comes from the same background as Jughead. Betty feels sick at the though that maybe that was not the first Jughead has kissed that girl. He wouldn't do that to her? Would he?
“You’re late.” Cheryl is waiting for the two of them with her arms folded.
“By one minute.” Veronica says annoyed.
“Woah stop right there.” Cheryl says to Betty.
“What?”
“Betty are you well enough to go out there and perform?”
“Yes.”
“I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you look like shit.”
“How is that nice in anyway?” Betty asks annoyed.
“I stay at your house most nights. Your light is almost never off. Your cheap drug store concealer is not doing a good job of covering up those bags. Your eyes are redder than a junkie’s.”
“Cheryl she is fine. Betty and I just spent an hour practicing at her house. Betty can slay this routine in her sleep.” Betty is not sure what Cheryl she is going to get. the HBIC that is horrible to everyone around her or the real Cheryl that is an actual human being who cares about others.
“Don’t let me down Cooper.” Cheryl walks over to the other Vixens.
“Thanks Veronica.” Veronica spots Archie and Jughead in the bleachers.
“Anything for my girl! How do you feel about Jughead being here?”
“I am sure Archie forced him to come.”
“Or maybe he wanted to come support you.”
“Ladies get in formation.” Cheryl announces.
Principal Weatherbee and Mayor Mccoy take the stage.
“They are thanking their lucky stars that the baseball team made the state finals, so that we can put on this stupid Pep Rally and pretend like this town is not at war.” Veronica says.
“There is nothing like a dance routine and a Pussycat performance to make everybody brush all of the damage under the rug.” Betty says angrily.
The music begins to play. Veronica mouths ‘You got this’ to Betty. Betty smiles grateful to have such a supportive female friend in her life.
Betty went through the motions during the routine. Normally she loves performing with the River Vixens, but nothing can take her away from her problems these days.
The routine ends and Betty holds the painfully forced smile on her face. She makes the mistake of looking in the crowd right at Archie and Jughead. She feels a tear slip out of her eye and she quickly wipes it hoping that nobody could see it from all of the way in the bleachers. She looks around for her parents and Polly, but she cannot see them anywhere. Her mother always makes them sit front and center. Something is off.
Betty does her rehearsed high kick on the way out.
“Betty, Veronica.” Hermoine Lodge comes running over in her very high Jimmy Choo heels.”Polly has gone into labor.”
“Betty you are riding with me.” Cheryl appears.
“I’m coming with you.” Veronica says and Cheryl rolls her eyes.
“The Cooper/Blossom babies are being born, not the Cooper/Blossom/Lodge babies Veronica. Come on Betty.”
“Whatever I’ll tell the boys and then come meet you.” Veronica assures Betty. Before Betty can answer, Cheryl pulls Betty away from the ongoing Pep Rally.
Cheryl drives like a maniac on the way to the hospital and Betty fears for her life.
“Cheryl slow down!” Betty’s complaining about speed only made Cheryl press the gas pedal harder.
Betty looks down at her phone to see that she has twenty missed calls from her mom and twenty texts from her as well. A few calls from her dad.
Cheryl pulls up to the hospital and throws her keys at a random hospital intern.”Park it under a tree and you will receive no tip, but park it somewhere shady. Top up while parked, but back down when picking up.” Cheryl orders.
“Sorry.” Betty says to the very confused intern. Cheryl pulls Betty away before she can say anything else.
“Cheryl there is no valet at the hospital.”
“There is always valet.”
“My mom said that they are in room 202. That’s upstairs.” Betty hates how familiar she has become with this place. She prays that she will never have to visit the ICU again. Right now she is here for a happy reason. Jughead is okay. Polly is okay. Soon there will be two babies added to the family. Something to finally be happy about.
Betty sees her dad and Mrs. Blossom sitting on opposite sides of the waiting room.”Hi dad.”
“I am going in there.” Cheryl says determined.
“Cheryl!” Mrs. Blossom says firmly.”She is in there with her mother. The rest of us must sit out here patiently.”
“Hell no! I am not letting my niece and nephew born without my face being the first that they see.”
“Only one of you is allowed to go in there.” Mr. Cooper says.
“It’s okay, let Cheryl go.” Betty says.
“Really?” Mr. Cooper, Mrs. Blossom, and Cheryl says in unison.
Betty nods confidently.”Cheryl has been great to Polly during this pregnancy. She has earned this.”
Cheryl gives Betty a thankful smile before racing off to the delivery room.”That was very nice of you sweetheart.”
Betty knows how much these babies mean to Cheryl. She has had it worse than anyone this year. These babies are part of an optimistic future for Cheryl. Her light in a very dark year. Betty has no problem standing on the sidelines if this helps Cheryl heal.
“Betty.” Veronica, Archie, Kevin, and Jughead appear in the waiting room.
“You guys didn’t have to come.”
“We wanted to.” Archie says quietly. He is aware that they only pretend to be friends in front of Jughead, but she is grateful that he is here. His actions in the past week have been a huge improvement.
“Thanks for being here.”
“Mr. Cooper.” A doctor motions Betty’s dad over.
“What’s that about?” Veronica asks.
“No idea.” Betty shrugs.
“Where is Cheryl?”
“She went into the delivery room.”
“Why didn’t you?” Kevin asks.
“Only one more person besides my mom was allowed to go and there is no fighting Cheryl Blossom. She deserves to be in there more than anyone.”
“I am starving I need some snacks.” Veronica says.
“Me too.” Kevin says following her.
“Betty do you need anything? Archie? Jughead?” Both boys shake their head no. Jughead never says no to food. Something is wrong.
“I’m not hungry thanks.”
Veronica and Kevin disappear leaving her alone with Archie and Jughead. Jughead sits across from her and picks up a magazine. Betty can tell he is not paying attention to it as he flips through the pages way too quick to even look at the pictures. Betty looks over at Archie who is biting his nails. The silence is killing her. She is actually debating going over and sitting with Penelope Blossom. That sounds much better than this.
“Neither of you answered me earlier when I brought up my phone.” Jughead breaks the silence. Betty’s throat goes dry and she turns red.
“Jug you probably just misplaced it and don't remember." Archie suggests.
“Then why did Sheriff Keller tell me that Betty has it?” Jughead drops the magazine and looks up at Betty.
“Betty-” Archie tries to avoid the situation with another lie, but Betty cuts him off.
“It’s okay Archie. Yes I have your phone Jughead.” Betty admits. She is sick of the lies.
“Why?” Jughead looks angry.
“I don’t know.” She did it to protect him. To protect him from his falling out with Archie. To protect him from getting overwhelmed. To protect his fragile heart. He has been through so much this year. Betty would do anything to not have him relive the pain even if it meant him hating her.
“Seriously? You told me that the police have my phone. You lied!” Betty pulls out Jughead’s phone and tosses it to him.
“I am sorry.” Betty says sincerely, a sea of tears pouring out of her eyes.
“Sorry for what? For lying to me? For keeping information from me? You know how much it has been torturing me not having my memories. Is this some sort of revenge for me ending our friendship?” Betty’s eyes are watering up and she doesn’t know what to say.”Come on hit me with your best excuse?” Betty's fists ball up. She is digging into her palm fighting the darkness and the tears at the same time. She gives up the battle with the tears to focus on fighting the darkness.
“Jug-” Archie tries his best to play mediator.
“No Archie, I need answers. I don’t know who I can trust anymore. This is ridiculous.”
“I don’t know what you want me to say Jughead.” Betty is numb. She deserves his anger, but it still hurts like hell.
“Say that you didn’t drug Chuck Clayton and handcuff him in a hot tub.” Betty looks up at Jughead stunned. Does he remember?
“What?”
“So it is true?” Betty can think of a million excuses to defend her actions, but she knows there are none. Her darkness. She can’t explain this in front of Archie. She has to face the consequences of her actions.
“Jughead-I." She pauses and takes a deep breath. "Yes, it’s true.”
“Who are you?” Jughead asks disgusted."I don't know this person."
Betty doesn’t know herself anymore. Jughead is not the only person that is disgusted with who Betty has become. She used to get so frustrated with her family for being dishonest. She is the biggest hypocrite of them all.
“Polly is going to be here overnight.” Mr. Cooper reappears. Betty wipes the tears away quickly. She is grateful for her father's interruption. She doesn't know how much more of this conversation she can take. ”Your mother agrees that we should go home for the night, get some sleep, and come back in the morning.” Betty is grateful for her dad’s interruption.
“Let’s go!” Betty stands up quickly.
“Boys would you like a ride home?” Mr. Cooper asks and Betty shakes her head no at her dad.
“We are waiting for Veronica and Kevin. We don’t mind walking. Thank you Mr. Cooper.” Archie says.
“You kids get home safe.” Betty walks behind her dad. She passes Archie and Jughead with her swollen eyes. Jughead’s expression has softened a bit, but he still looks angry.
Betty turns her back on the boys and heads out of the hospital.
Jughead watched Betty’s signature ponytail following her father out of the waiting. Jughead wanted to chase after her and say he was sorry. He never wanted to see her cry as the result of him. He never wanted to see her cry period. He is too angry at her right now to go after her. She was supposed to be his ally.
“Oh Jug.”
“Where is she going?” Veronica asks.
“The babies won’t be here until the morning. She is leaving with her dad.”
“I better go check on her.” Kevin says.
“You really should.” Archie says.
“What happened?” Veronica asks confused. Archie looks over at Jughead.
“Jughead that was harsh.” Veronica looks frustrated as the boys do not fill her in.
“I know.” Jughead regrets how mad he got at Betty. The clear hurt in her exhausted eyes. He couldn’t stop himself from getting worked up. Archie’s phone vibrates and he pulls it out to read a text. Archie sighs. Archie hands the phone to Veronica. They look at each other for a moment. Jughead feels frustration once again as people are keeping secrets from him right in front of his face.
“I can’t do this.” Archie says.”Jug she didn’t give you back your phone because she was protecting me. Protecting our friendship.”
“How?”
“I have been a terrible friend to you this year Jughead. I bailed on our fourth of July trip, so that I could have sex with Ms. Grundy.” Jughead looks at Archie confused and a bit grossed out.
“Ms. Grundy the music teacher?”
“Yes. It was a big mistake. The whole relationship.” Relationship? This is only getting weirder.”We didn't speak for a while after that. The night of the homecoming dance you went over to the Cooper’s with your dad for dinner." The thought of Jughead going to a school dance makes him laugh. The more he finds out, the less he recognizes himself. "Alice wanted to distract your dad while Veronica and I searched your dad’s trailer behind your back. We found nothing. Betty had no idea we did it, but it really hurt you when you found out. You have no idea how sorry I am-we both are for that.”
“One of the stupidest things I’ve ever done.” Veronica admits.
“And then when my dad got shot, I went absolutely off the charts psycho.” Jughead looks over at Veronica and she nods.
“It’s very true.”
“Since you joined the Serpents the night before, I blamed you. I was so awful to you Jughead. I said some awful things. Betty tried her best to get me to see reason, but I set out on this crazy revenge path. I gathered Chuck and some guys from the team to go to Southside High to confront the Serpents. Get some answers and then the fight broke out. I had no idea that Chuck brought a knife. I never knew that he would do that to you.” Jughead cannot believe what he is hearing.”I am so sorry Jughead. Betty kept trying to stop me. I should’ve listened to her. She was always on your side.” Jughead feels guilty knowing that he just got mad at her and now hearing that she tried to stop his attack. That explains why Betty was at Southside High.”She didn’t want you to find out about our falling out. We had this idea that maybe we could erase some of the painful memories from these last ten months out of your life.”
“What did you expect to happen if I got my memory back?”
“I don’t know. Betty and I were only trying to protect you.” Jughead can tell that he is being honest. Archie holds his phone out to Jughead revealing a text from Betty.
Betty: Arch, I deleted the message thread between you guys on his phone. Don’t worry, you're in the clear!
“And-about the Chuck situation, Veronica knows about that better than me since she was there.”
“You guys know about it?” Jughead asks confused.
“Are you talking about the hot tub ordeal?” Veronica asks.”How do you know about that?”
“I may have visited Chuck.”
“What?” Veronica and Archie say at the same time. Jughead still can’t wrap his mind around that Betty drugged him.
“Chuck had been sexually harassing girls around school including me. Betty made it her mission to get justice for us. It ended up going a bit far to get his confession.”
“You guys knew about it?” Jughead asks.
“Ya we did.” Jughead feels bad about not giving Betty the benefit of the doubt.
“I knew about it?” Veronica and Archie both nod.
“She is the same Betty, she just went through a lot this year. We all did. I can promise you Jug that she has always been in your corner.” Jughead knows that Archie is right. No matter the situation, Betty has always been the first person to stick up for him. How could he have thought so badly of her.
“If you have to be angry at anyone, be angry at me.”
“Oh I am.” Jughead cannot believe this. The two people he trusts more than anyone have been lying to him.
“Kevin just texted me that he is spending the night at Betty’s. We can go to Pops still since the babies won’t be born until the morning.” Veronica says hopefully.
“I am going to sleep at the trailer tonight.” Archie looks at Jughead devastated. Veronica puts her arm around Archie’s waist for support.“I just need some time to think. I need to give Sheriff Keller my phone too.”
“I get it. Don’t forget the meeting with my mom on Monday. You are always welcome at my house Jug.”
Jughead nods before heading out of the hospital disappointed. He runs his fingers along with his iPhone. His screensaver is a picture of Betty. A selfie of her wearing his beanie with a goofy smile on her face. He smiles at the photo wondering how this could have been taken. He makes up a scenario in his head of them working on a class project in her room. Jughead sitting at her desk and Betty laying on her bed. After getting bored of working on the project for so long, Betty takes the beanie off of Jughead's head and places it on her own. She is the only person who he would not get annoyed by taking his beanie.
How could he have been so awful to her?
He presses the home button ready to text her when the phone powers off. Dead battery. Just his luck.
Jughead puts the phone in his back pocket and heads for the sheriff’s station ready to pull away from everything for a little while.
A/N: And the slow burn continues. I have never written such a long slow burn before, this is so hard!! I just want them to kiss and makeup for a lot of lost time. Poor Jughead is so confused and just wants to know the truth. Betty just keeps having shit thrown at her constantly like Jughead did in Season 1. Thanks for bearing with the angst! Next up we are going to get into the beginning of Chuck's trial. Again, the support I have gotten for this story is absolutely amazing! I try and respond to each comment as quickly as possible. Just know that every single message, comment, kudos, like is the best feeling in the world and I cannot thank my readers enough :)!

FP Jones/Andrew’s Family/Riverdale imagines - Oh Dear Part 16
Tumblr media
A/N: I was so excited to write this chapter. I hope you like it.
(Part One)(Part Two)(Part Three)(Part Four)(Part Five)(Part Six)(Part Seven)(Part Eight)(Part Nine)(Part Ten)(Part Eleven)(Part Twelve)(Part Thirteen)(Part Fourteen)(Part Fifteen)
Overall Summary: You’re Archie’s old sister and you have a thing for a certain serpent
Pairing: Reader x FP Jones, Sister!Reader x Archie Andrews, Daughter!Reader x Fred Andrews
Word count: 2,399
Warnings: None really
You had no idea what Archie was thinking by putting that video up after you specifically told him to be careful but you knew one thing, you weren’t just gonna ignore it.
Archie has always been stubborn and stupid when it comes to things he’s passionate about and you were the same way however, ever since your dad got shot, he’s been acting way further off the rails than usual and this was really pushing it.
“What the hell were you thinking, Archie?! I said ‘defend not attack’. I said ‘be careful’!” You confronted Archie, running up to him in the hallway. You hadn’t seen him that morning considering the fact that you had to leave the house early so you could sneak out your Serpent’s jacket.
The teenage Serpents wanted you on the south side that evening and you knew you’d have to head there straight after school, with Jughead being suspicious and a killer on the loose, you thought it was a safe idea to go there straight away so you’d be come back home by a reasonable time.
“I’m not in the mood, (Y/n): I’ve already had this from Dad this morning.” Archie told you, not even looking at you or stopping.
“Maybe, you need to hear it again, Archie. To get it through your thick skull––” You went to rant at the boy but he just cut you off.
“––Quit playing Mom, (Y/n).  I put it out there and there’s nothing we can do about it now.” Archie sharply turned, leaving you to watch him enter the principle’s office.
For gods sake, Archie, you thought.
Tumblr media
“Hey girlie.” The young serpent greeted you as you climbed out of your car. “Welcome back to the right side of the tracks.”
“Hey. Where’s Toni?” You asked, the young Serpent nodded to the bar behind him.
“Inside with everyone else. Come on.” The young serpent beckoned you towards the Whyte Wyrm but you hesitated. You didn’t want to walk into the Whyte Wyrm knowing that FP wasn’t inside. The previous times you visited it was for business but this is pleasure and you hadn’t been there for pleasure since FP was arrested.
“Hey.” Toni greeted you as you entered the bar.
Most of the Serpents knew exactly who you are so a lot of murmurs surfaced when you walked through the doors and headed to the younger Serpents.
You made eye contact with Tall Boy but chose not to interact with him as Toni was calling you over to the pool tables.
You greeted the other young Serpents as they played a game and you noticed Sweet Pea glaring in your direction.
You chose to ignore it as you watched him mutter quietly to the boys beside him but when Sweet Pea finally spoke up, it was your turn to play a round against Toni and you just couldn’t ignore it.
“What is she even doing here?” Sweet Pea asked Toni and the young Serpent over the loud rock music that played in the bar.
“She’s a Serpent, she’s allowed to be here.” Toni said it as if it were obvious as she stood up for you before you could stand up for yourself. You had a wash of relief as you realised that at least some of the younger Serpents liked you.
“She’s a Northsider.” Sweet Pea snapped,
“Just because I’m from the supposed ‘nicer’ side of Riverdale doesn’t mean I’m so nice myself.” You kept a level head as you spoke, you didn’t look over at Sweet Pea but instead continued to play the game.
“Just because you wear the jacket doesn’t mean you have snakes skin.” He argued, taking a few steps towards you as if to intimidate you.
You cocked your head at the boy, holding onto your pool cue as you held your ground. The young Serpent tried to step in-between you and Sweet Pea but you spoke aloud before he could.
“No, he’s right, the jacket doesn’t make me a Serpent.” You said, not tearing your eyes away from the younger teenager as he smirked in triumph. “I’m a Serpent because FP Jones, himself, made me one. I think you know exactly who I am so I’d tread carefully, Sweet Pea.” You warned him, narrowing your eyes at the teenager.
Sweet Pea huffed out a bitter chuckle and looked around at his boys.
“We all know your psycho little brother is the redheaded jock in the video threatening the Black Hood.” Sweet Pea finally brought it up. You had been waiting for that to come up into conversation.
“I have nothing to do with the red circle.” You immediately told him.
“That may be true but what we want to know is when it comes down to it, who will you pick? The Serpents or your privileged over-confident little bro?” Sweet Pea asked, raising his eyebrows at you.
“If it comes down to it? I shouldn’t have to choose.” You argued, feeling your heart rise into your throat.
“Come on, we all know that this war between the North and SouthSide will only grow with what the register keeps printing in their papers.” Sweet Pea scoffed,
You remained silent, unable to answer.
“Anyway, if you were a true Serpent, you’d have the mark to prove it.” He pulled down his t-shirt to reveal the tattoo on his neck.
That, you took as a challenge.
With everything that was going on, you knew tensions were rising and so you knew why the Serpent’s had their suspicions and understood why they were testing you and this was a test.
“If that’s what it takes to prove myself then fine.” You placed the pool cue down and folded your arms across your chest.
“That’s the spirit.” The young serpent grappled hold of your shoulders, and the young serpents around you all laughed and cheered.
The Young Serpent took you on the back of his bike to the nearest parlour which was four blocks aways and Sweet Pea, Toni and some of the other teenage Serpents followed.
Everyone on this side of town seemed to know each other. The Young Serpent and the tattoo-covered tattoo artist brohugged each other before the Young Serpent told him that you needed the Serpents symbol.
“New member?” The artist asked,
“Something like that.” The Young Serpent smiled at you and you removed your serpents jacket.
The next morning, you woke up and looked in the mirror. You had mixed emotions about your new marking but you sure as hell knew that this meant you had another thing to hide from your family and this one was a visible permanent one.
You were fortunate enough to be smart and get it tattooed on the side of your ribcage so that it was hidden. Even if you wore a bikini, it would be hidden.
You closed your eyes and exhaled a shaky breath.
An image of FP came into your head, him chuckling at the idea of you getting a tattoo when you told him a few days ago.
You really missed him.
You couldn’t even go to his trailer anymore because Jughead was there and that’s what probably hurt the most.
You pulled on one of FP’s henley shirts and tucked it into your jeans, then you grabbed your keys and school bag and headed off.
On the way to school, you called Tall Boy.
“It was a bad idea making me spend time with the younger Serpents. They don’t trust me.” You sighed, trying to ignore the pain on your inner arm.
“They’d trust you even less if you didn’t. They’ll get used to you. Give it time.” Tall Boy told you, “I know things are hard without FP being around but we all have to deal somehow.”
You took your eyes off the road for a second to look down at your shirt and pursed your lips.
“I guess.” You hung up as you pulled up to school.
To your surprise, half of the students were walking round with the red circle t-shirts.
“Support the cause?” Cheryl asked with one of her poison apple smiles.
“The red circle? Seriously Cheryl? Didn’t think you were into gang activities.” You refused the t-shirt as she handed one towards you.
“Gang? This is a movement, female Andrews. Anyway, don’t you think you should be swapping out the rags by now?” Cheryl lifted the baggy henley up from your shoulder and you rolled your eyes.
“Before you start, this wasn’t my idea.” Archie defended himself before you even reached him in the hallway.
“He’s right, it wasn’t. It’s mine. We’ve turned the fringe band of radicals into a––”
“––movement. Yeah, I got that from Cheryl. I just hope you know what you’re doing.” You lowered your voice as you looked between the young couple.
Tumblr media
“I want you home tonight. With everything that’s going on, I feel like you’re out way too often and I get that you think you’re an adult but you still live under my roof. I hardly know where you are anymore and... it scares me.” Fred told you as you stood in the kitchen with him, you were just about to head out to work when he stopped you.
“Dad, I know I’m away at the moment but I have work. I’m just trying to keep myself busy, not think about all of this.” You didn’t tell the whole truth but you knew it was what he would want to hear.
“Well, that’s the thing, I spoke to Pop and he gave me your shift rota and half the time you’re out, you aren’t at Pop’s.” Fred unfolded a piece of paper that was your rota for last week and this week.
You closed your eyes and suck on your lower lip.
“If it’s a boy could you at least tell me.” Fred pleaded,
“It’s not a boy, Dad.” You shot down that idea fast, it really wasn’t a boy, it wasn’t even FP at this moment in time. You were just trying to gain the Serpent’s trust. The Serpent’s gave you some familiarity, made you feel a little closer to FP.
“Is it drugs? The red circle?” Fred was just listing off things that came to mind. You moved towards him, chuckling softly at the ideas.
“No, no, none of that. Dad, I just can’t be around Archie at the moment. You have to understand that. The red circle, his crazy ideas of hunting the Black Hood down, I can’t stand it.” You explained, Fred sighed and lowered his head.
“You two are just keeping me awake at night.” Fred admitted, you slung your arms around his shoulders and softly pulled him into a hug since he was still fragile from his bullet-wound.
“Please don’t worry about me.” You whispered before breaking away to go to work.
“Can’t do that, you’re my daughter.” Fred said as you left.
Later that night, after your shift, you got a text from Toni. It told you that Archie had been on the South Side that evening, tagging the town with red circles and waving a gun about. Waving a gun right at Sweet Pea.
You felt your chest concave as all trust you had left for Archie left you.
You sped home, stormed right up the stairs and into Archie’s room.
He was sat on his bed, his hands shaking and his eyes locked on his backpack.
“Are you insane?” You asked him, staring at him with utter disbelief and disgust.
“What are you talking about?” Archie frowned at you.
“Don’t. Just don’t. I trusted you to disband the red circle and you didn’t. I trusted you to not attack and you did. I trusted that you would come to your senses, realise that this is dangerous and way out of your control but you just seem to keep fighting and putting yourself in even more danger.” You rose your voice at your baby brother, your whole body was shaking as tears filled your eyes. “A gun, Archie. A gun.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” He stood up and turned his back on you.
“I have my connections, Archie. After the last time you went into Serpent’s territory looking for a fight, I made sure I had someone on that side keeping an eye out for any redheaded teenage boys who maybe stirring trouble and guess what. I got a message after work saying that you were spotted wielding a gun and tagging the red circle across the south side.” You explained,
"Keep your voice down.” Archie reminded you of Dad but he was fast asleep on the couch downstairs with the tv blaring.
“No! You need to listen. Every time, I tried warning you, you pushed me further away! Don’t you think this is hard for me too?! I am trying to juggle two different worlds at the moment and you are pushing them apart, Alice Cooper is pushing them apart and the Black Hood is pushing them apart too. This is what he wants, I know it and you just seem to think that’s okay to do what you want. You have enjoyed your time being the famous five and finding Jason’s murderer but Jason’s murderer wasn’t a serial killer.”
“You’re right! But that’s why I want to find him! I want him dead, (Y/n).” Archie finally turned to look at you and you saw something change in his eyes when he saw the tears in yours.
“I defended you. I defended you when people called you a psychopath, when people called you dangerous but it’s clear I can’t do that anymore. I’m sorry, Archie.” You backed out of his room. “This... This has gone too far.”
The next morning, you headed to South Side high to see the Serpents. You had texted Toni first to see if Jughead was around but he wasn’t.
“Come to a decision?” Toni asked, cocking her eyebrow as she noticed you had your serpent’s jacket on in front of the school. The Serpent’s were all gathered by their bikes and you noticed Sweet Pea had a face like thunder.
“When it comes down to things, let the Serpents know I’ll be by their side.” You told Toni, and you saw some of the Serpent’s around you smirk.
“Good, nice to know you aren’t the stupid one.” Toni smiled.
