i wanted to include any warnings i noticed while watching these shows, as to reduce any harm to anyone taking my recommendations! these are still my favorite shows and have as many nuanced positives as nuanced negatives!
key: FL = female lead, ML = male lead, TW = trigger warning
message about south korean dramas: i think so many of us are drawn to kdramas for their depth and analysis of different forms of oppression and traumas. however, kdramas are lacking so much in so many ways thus the TWs. i recently found out that studio dragon, the largest production company in south korea is a monopoly company (bought out all smaller independent businesses and now has total control over most production in south korea). studio dragon alone has produced vincenzo, hometown cha cha cha, happiness, twenty-five twenty-one, yumis cells, my roommate is a gumiho, doom at your service, true beauty, start-up, tale of the nine tailed, flower of evil, it’s okay to not be okay, hi bye mama, my holo love, love alarm, hotel del luna, because this is my first life and way way more. plus they just signed with Netflix in the last year or two, and will only be continuing to expand. if you regularly watch kdramas there’s not much we can do, expect support the dramas that have become more inclusive. knowledge is power and having perspectives on why studio dragon is not perfect is more beneficial than living in the dark.

K-Dramas For A Rainy Day
I don’t know, it’s raining where I live and I just wanted to make a list of K-Dramas that either have rain scenes I like or that I would want to watch on a rainy day.
This obviously isn’t going to be a comprehensive list of every K-Drama I’ve seen with rain scenes or anything. Honestly, K-Dramas and rain seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly. You could probably watch whatever K-Drama you want to and find a rain scene.
For me, rainy days elicit a feeling of wanting to be cozy, warm and dry while nursing a hot cup of apple cider or hot chocolate. So most of these shows (unsurprisingly) are also on my Comfort K-Drama List.
Doom At Your Service
Honestly, this drama has such an iconic (in my opinion) rain kiss scene. On top of that, I love the whole “running through the rain” thing.
Tumblr media
W: Two Worlds Apart
There’s a fair number of rain scenes in this show. I’ll be honest though, even if this drama didn’t have any rain scenes, I’d watch this on a rainy day since it’s a comfort show.
Look, I never said this list wasn’t going to be biased. I said that this list was going to be shows that I would watch on a rainy day.
Tumblr media
Extra-Ordinary You
It’s fluffy, it’s cute, there’s that scene where Eun Dan Oh ran through the rain in her hospital gown to find Haru.
Even if I’m remembering the scene wrong and it wasn’t raining, I’d still have this drama on this list.
Tumblr media
Romance Is A Bonus Book
Again, I never said this list wasn’t going to be biased. Seriously though, the vibes alone are enough to make it on this list. This show just gives me the feeling of being wrapped up all warm and cozy in a blanket by a window sill while it’s raining and reading my favorite book as I sip some hot chocolate.
This show has got fluff, rainy day scenes, one of my biases, books, snowy day scenes (the kind of weather I wish I could get where I live), one of my favorite tropes (friends to lovers), one of my biases…
Tumblr media
Angel’s Last Mission: Love
You’ve got rain scenes, a cute angel, some of my favorite tropes (surprisingly), ballet (if you’re into that). Rain is actually a pretty important to the plot of this show as it causes Angel Dan’s wings to appear.
Tumblr media
Goblin: The Lonely and Great God
This show has plenty of rain scenes as the Goblin, Kim Shin, has an affect on the weather depending on his mood. Whenever he’s sad, it will rain.
That being said, not all of the rain scenes in this show happen because he’s sad.
Tumblr media
Splash Splash Love
No rainy day list for K-Dramas would be complete without this short, cute drama.
The entire 2 episode show revolves around rain. The plot is literally about a girl escaping her problems by jumping into a puddle on a rainy day and only being to get back home via the same method.
Tumblr media
Business Proposal
Rain is also an important aspect of this Netflix show as well as Shin Ha Ri finds rainy days to be romantic, while Kang Tae Moo is actually traumatized by rain and suffers from panic attacks(?) whenever he’s in the rain.
Tumblr media
Shopping King Louie/Shopaholic Louis
Another cozy, fluffy K-Drama that’s one of my confort dramas. There’s plenty of rain scenes, including some which lead to some sick-comfort scenes as the female lead, Go Bok-shil gets sick whenever there’s a thunderstorm at night.
Tumblr media
Abyss
This K-Drama is on Netflix and it has a few rainy day scenes, including one very life altering rainy night for the female lead as she happens to get murdered (but don’t worry, she’s very much alive and well and rocking a new body that matches her soul!)
While You Were Sleeping
I feel like this list is somehow calling me out because there’s like…3 shows on here with Lee Jong Suk. I mean, the list has my other biases on here at least once or twice.
Anyway, this drama has all sorts of weather from rain to snow, but there’s a very particular rainy day that is an important plot point as one of the female lead’s premonition dreams is about her dying on a rainy day.
Tumblr media
Café Minamdang
Some people didn’t like this show, I personally thoroughly enjoyed it. I only gave it a chance because of Seo In Guk and was not disappointed.
There’s a really awesome fight in the rain scene in the last episode that is basically the original reason why it’s on my list.

Poll time!
Watching W reminded me of two things (1) how much I adore Lee Jong Suk dramas and (2) how much freaking suffering man likes to do in them. So, a poll:
OK, now the explanation part.
Secret Garden - he's a hipster composer with unrequited crush on delightful himbo superstar Oska. Honestly, not getting that fine piece of man is indeed a tragedy. Here is Oska hauling off our composer and is all "you are not leaving, kid," not helping that crush one bit:
Tumblr media
I Hear Your Voice - serial killer offed his dad and almost offed him when he was little, has ability to hear everyone's thoughts that he cannot turn off, same serial killer is now gunning for him (or just turning him into killer), is a high school kid with hopeless (or is it? :P) crush on decade older prosecutor, accidentally stabs her once, loses his memory etc etc. A great time is NOT had by all. But it is had by me.
Tumblr media
Doctor Stranger - stuck in North Korea as a kid, forced to perform human experiments as a doctor for years, has to kill his OTP's dad to save her, believes his OTP died (twice), hunted by NK goon squads etc etc. My pick, tbh.
Tumblr media
W Two Worlds - his family killed and he's convicted for their deaths, after he gets out eventually discovers he's a fictional character and fights to keep free will and oh, a killer who literally is inhuman narrative is hunting him and the woman he loves across worlds.
Tumblr media
While You Were Sleeping - childhood trauma, present day psycho fixating on him (why ARE his characters psycho catnip?), an almost fatal stabbing now and then...just a routine life of a prosecutor.
Tumblr media
Romance Is a Bonus Book - for once he decided to take a break from whumptown. Ummm...a romcom with no blood is a form of suffering for angst lovers? (There is no pic as there is no gut wounds, sorry.)
Big Mouth - framed for something he didn't do, convicted and has to cope in jail full of psychopaths who go after him, stuck in a lunatic asylum and tortured, and after all of that, his wife dies. Go big or go home.

kdrama whump recs: found family/team as family edition
Found family/team as family is my favorite trope, and when it’s combined with whump it’s even better! So, without further ado, here are some of my favorite whumpy kdramas featuring these tropes! (This list is not a ranking!)
1. The Uncanny Counter (2021)
Tumblr media
Age Rating: TV-14
Synopsis: So Mun is an orphaned high-school student who suddenly gains supernatural powers. Soon after, the local noodle-shop employees recruit him into their team of “Counters”, where he begins to learn of the evil spirits roaming around town.
Notes: This was actually my first-ever kdrama! It’s a great blend of action, drama, and comedy. It also has one of the most unique “magic” systems I’ve seen, with the “Counters” each connected to a spirit in the afterlife. It’s also extremely whumpy, with a lot of comfort and care given to the characters. Definitely recommend.
Here is a whumplist by @love-me-a-lotta-whump
Here is a whumplist for Season 2!

2. Bulgasal: Immortal Souls (2021)
Tumblr media
Age Rating: TV-MA
Synopsis: Dan Hwal has lived for the past 600 years as a Bulgasal—a mythical creature that feeds off human blood and is cursed with immortality. Eventually, he connects with his reincarnated family, along with a formerly immortal woman.
Notes: This show is pretty complex and can get confusing at times. It’s also heartbreaking, but the characters make up for it! There’s a TON of whump for both characters shown in the GIF above.
Here is a whumplist by @love-me-a-lotta-whump

3. Mystic Pop-Up Bar (2020)
Tumblr media
Age Rating: TV-MA
Synopsis: Han Kang-bae is a young man with the ability to make people confess their deepest troubles with a single touch, but this power isn’t always a gift to him. One night, he meets the mysterious owner of a pop-up bar, a woman who must settle the grudges of 100,000 souls in order to gain a peaceful place in the afterlife.
Notes: This show isn’t the most whumpy on this list by any means, but it still has a good amount! What stood out to me were the relationships between the main trio of characters and how close they become with each other over the course of the show. No spoilers here, but this drama does involve reincarnation...
Here is a whumplist by @whumperfect
_____________________________________________________
4. While You Were Sleeping (2017)
Tumblr media
Age Rating: TV-14
Synopsis: Three young adults discover that they all have the same ability: seeing the future in their dreams. As a trio, they work together to attempt to change these (sometimes terrible) visions and save each other from harm.
Notes: Though this show is more focused on the romance between Jae-chan and Hong-joo, there are some great moments of found family feels between the main trio, sometimes including Jae-chan’s little brother and a different character who somewhat acts as a father figure. Pretty whumpy show that I absolutely adored watching! (Plus, the cast is STELLAR! I mean, Suzy, Jong-suk, and Jae-in together in a drama? It’s so good.)
Here is a whumplist by @whumpalot
Here is a whumplist by @thewhumpyrabbit
_____________________________________________________
5. Tomorrow (2022)
Tumblr media
Age Rating: TV-MA
Synopsis: Choi Jun-woong is a young man struggling to find a job, but when he falls into a coma after an unfortunate accident, he’s offered a place on the Risk Management Team as a temporary grim reaper. Together, they help save people from s*icide.
Notes: Possibly my most favorite kdrama ever! It has more emotional whump than physical for the most part, but it’s so amazingly done. The main trio (plus another character, later in the show) have such great platonic chemistry, and even though they have conflicts, you can tell they all truly care for each other even after a short amount of time. (Rowoon’s acting talents are really highlighted in this show, as well as the other main leads!)
Here is a whumplist I made!
_____________________________________________________
6. The Devil Judge (2021)
Tumblr media
Age Rating: TV-14
Synopsis: This series is set in a dystopian version of South Korea, where the people live in chaos and corruption runs rampant. Trials are held through a courtroom live show aired on television, led by "The Devil Judge”.
Notes: This show is very dark, but has an interesting dynamic between the characters that evolves and grows over the course of the show. The characters are complex and imperfect, and though their conflicts are intense, it just makes the domestic moments so much better because of it. It has some good whump for the two main characters, and of course, Jin-young is an added bonus.
Here is a whumplist by @whumpslist
_____________________________________________________
7. He is Psychometric (2019)
Tumblr media
Age Rating: TV-14
Synopsis: Lee Ahn is a young man with the ability to read the memories of any object or person he touches. He begins to train his powers in order to help solve crimes and get justice for the death of his parents.
Notes: One of my favorite kdramas ever and a must-watch for anyone in the kdrama whump community. Fair warning, this show will absolutely shatter your heart, but it has such a great storyline with many twists and turns. This is a complex found family, and though the show does have a romance, it’s a really good one. Also, there’s SO MUCH WHUMP! Like in every single episode. It’s truly amazing. Jin-young never fails to amaze me with his acting.
Here is a whumplist by @love-me-a-lotta-whump
_____________________________________________________
Alright, that’s the end of the list (at least for now)! If you have any recommendations for more whumpy found family/team as family kdramas, please comment them or send me them! <3

Winter Romance K-Dramas For The Holiday Season
A list of wintery K-Dramas for those who love snow and winter vibes.
The K-Dramas on this list take place primarily during winter. These are mostly going to be rom-coms because that’s…really about all I watch.
The bare minimum requirement for a K-Drama to make it on this list is for there to be at least one snow scene or scene that I can reasonably conclude is set in winter.
While You Were Sleeping
Starting off my list is this fantasy rom-com drama (which is not to be confused with the 1995 American rom-com movie of the same title, which I also like, but that’s neither here nor there) which starts off on one fateful snowy Valentine’s Day where Hong Joo, a woman who has had prophetic dreams ever since she was young and is powerless to stop or change them, was supposed to wind up framed for the accidental vehicular manslaughter of a police officer named Woo Tak. Both she and the officer are saved by Jae Chan, who has a prophetic dream about Hong Joo being framed and having her life fall apart because of it. Anyway, the three of them all have prophetic dreams and work to figure out why they have these abilities while utilizing them in order to save those that they love.
This drama features plenty of wintery scenes as some key moments within the drama take place during late winter, but also a scene around Christmas. This drama also features some of my favorite tropes (some of which I can’t list for spoiler reasons) and also features the rarest of creatures: a love triangle that actually doesn’t aggravate me.
Tumblr media
Doom At Your Service
This supernatural fantasy rom-com drama takes place primarily in wintertime, I think it starts somewhere in December or January, with the end being in March. There’s mostly rain scenes in this drama, but there are two snow scenes in episode 11.
This drama is about Tak Dong-kyung, a woman who just found out that she has a terminal brain tumor the same day she discovers her boyfriend is actually a married man. One night, while drunk, she declares a desire for doom to befall the world. This ends up bringing Myul Mang, Doom himself, to her doorstep. He offers to grant her wish as well as make sure she doesn’t feel the pain or negative effects of her illness for the 100 days of their contract. She of course agrees and over time, both of them begin to falling in love with each other.
I’m going to be super honest about this drama, the 2nd lead female and her love triangle is 100% skippable without impacting your enjoyment or understanding of the show. It’s very bland, boring and kinda…easy to not care about when you have the high-fantasy romance happening in the A plot. This drama isn’t perfect, but I still continue to recommend it because Seo In-guk and Park Bo-young really brought their A games to their roles and it’s really worth it to watch their parts in the drama.
Tumblr media
Pinocchio
Yet another Lee Jong-suk drama makes its way onto this list and the first time this drama has made it on one of my lists because I recently finished it.
This drama is undeniably set in and around December. Why undeniably? The Christmas decorations and the music. Not to mention there’s also an episode that takes place on Christmas Day which has a very drunk Dal-po/Ha-myung telling his adoptive father and “little” brother “Merry Christmas, pew pew.” Which, is simply adorable.
Tumblr media
Anyway, this K-Drama is very basically about news reporters. Very specifically focusing on the male lead character Ha-myung (also known as Dal-po) and female lead, In-ha. Dal-po/Ha-myung’s family was destroyed by wrongful news reporting, which the worst of was largely done by the In-ha’s mother. Ha-myung ends up being adopted by In-ha’s grandfather and so he’s also, legally, her uncle.
They grew up together, went to school together, fell in love with each other and now work as reporters at two different news companies that are rivals.
Tumblr media
Soundtrack #1
This is a short 4 episode long K-Drama that’s on Disney+.
This K-Drama has a friends-to-lovers story, with Sunwoo the ML having been pining for the Eunsoo the FL for 8(?) years. The story focuses primarily on a time when they’re living together in Eunsoo’s home for two weeks in order to help her write the lyrics for song about unrequited love, something that Eunsoo has no experience with, but knows that Sunwoo does (though she has no idea who the unrequited love is really directed to). The show seems to take place during winter, there’s plenty of snow, that’s for sure!
I originally only wanted to watch this drama because of Seo In-guk’s cameo, but I ended up actually really enjoying the show despite how short it was!
Tumblr media
Romance Is A Bonus Book
Either I am being too generous with what K-Dramas I consider to be wintery enough for this list or Lee Jong-suk really loves doing dramas that are set in wintertime.
This drama is primarily set around late fall, maybe early winter?
Anyway, here’s a third Lee Jong-suk winter-y drama. Unlike the other two on this list, this one is a noona romance where the age gap between the characters is 5 years.
I’ve talked about this drama before many a time and how it feels like curling up in some warm blankets with a hot drink and a good book.
This drama is about Dan-yi, a divorced single mom who has been struggling to get hired after a 7 year job break. Desperate to get a job, she “erases” her college education and work experience on her resume when applying to work at the publishing company that her long-time best friend Cha Eun-ho works at as an editor (when he’s not teaching college classes or publishing his own successful books).
If you want warm and cozy feels for the fall or winter season or for the holidays, I strongly recommend this drama, even if you think that you wouldn’t like it because it’s a noona romance.
Tumblr media
Goblin: The Lonely and Great God
This drama is set in fall and winter. I feel like it’s set primarily in November/December. There’s plenty of snow and rain, not to mention Christmas lights and decorations!
This drama is about a man named Kim Shin who was a decorated military general who was betrayed by his king and forced to witness his family be killed before being murdered himself. Except he doesn't really die and is instead transformed into an immortal goblin. He wanders through the years in search of the prophesied "goblin's bride" who is the only one with the ability to remove his sword from his chest and set his soul free. 19 years ago, he happens to save a pregnant woman from a life-threatening accident and as a result her child is able to see and talk to ghosts, but because she was never supposed to be born, she has to hide from a grim reaper - who just so happens to now be the Goblin's roommate.
Tumblr media
I Am Not A Robot
I’m not exactly sure when this drama is set, but it must be winter because the characters are bundled up and snow is on the ground and falling from the sky. There’s also rain!
Anyway, this drama is about a male chaebol heir named Min-kyu, who is allergic to humans and the mere touch of a fellow human being can cause him to have a severe allergic reaction. He becomes interested in a humanoid robot being made by a company that he just bought/acquired called Aji3. He convinces the scientists to allow him to do a trial run of the robot in his home. They agree, but the day before they are to start the trial run, something happens to the robot that makes it not operational. In order to save their company and the project, the man who designed the Aji3 goes to the inspiration and model for the robot - his ex-girlfriend Jo Ji-a. Since she too needs the money in order to work on her own inventions, she agrees and poses as the robot.
While posing as the Aji3, Ji-a comes to care for and eventually falls in love with Min-kyu, who has also fallen in love with her.
Tumblr media
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo
This drama is for all the people who love a good school drama with a friends-to-lovers story. This drama is set during the fall semester of college.
This drama is about Kim Bok-joo, a girl who has been a weightlifter most of her life and has never really considered doing anything else. She falls in love for the very first time with the older brother of her friend Jun-hyung and gets swept up in the feelings. In order to spend time with him and get his attention, she does things that she’d never considered doing before.
Jun-hyung and Bok-joo have a really fun relationship dynamic which starts off almost enemy-like. Jun-hyung teases her at first and while I didn’t like him calling her “Chubs” he doesn’t mean it maliciously, so I guess I’m forgiving of his brief use of the nickname lol They’re really supportive of one another and this drama is something I recommend to non-sports loving people like myself lol
Tumblr media
My Roommate Is A Gumiho
Another school drama, this one also being set in college/university.
This drama is about Lee Dam, a female history major student who has never been in a relationship before winding up in possession of (via accidentally swallowing) the fox bead belonging to Shin Woo-yeo, a 999 year old gumiho hoping to become human. Due to the nature of the bead, it causes some ill-effects to Lee Dam, which lead to her and Shin Woo-yeo entering into a contract cohabitation agreement.
Tumblr media
You Who Came From The Stars
So, I’ll be honest, I’m only 1/3 of the way through this show (I’m just starting episode 7 as of writing this) but I’m including this one on the list because just like Pinocchio, this show is set primarily in winter. Very specifically, in December.
You’ll see a fair amount of Christmas decorations, lights, etc. in this drama!
This drama is about an alien who had been on Earth for the past 400 years and in 3 months is due to finally return to his home-world. He winds up with a new neighbor, a famous Hallyu actress.
I’ll be honest, the female lead is a bit… unlikeable at first/currently for me and I’m having a tough time with this drama, but it’s got enough intrigue to keep me interested and I’m hoping she gets some positive character development.

A Flash Of Time |Jung Jae Chan|
Tumblr media
A (H/C) girl smiled shopping for new clothes. She grabbed two outfits and started to walk to the cash register. Before she could make it to the register blood seeped through her shirt.
"No!" Hong-Joo yelled sitting up on the bed a tear going down her cheek.
Hong-Joo caught her breath and grabbed her post it writing down what she remembered from her dream. She ran her fingers through her hair as she got out of bed. She placed the sticky note on her window next to the many others.
"I feel like I've seen her before" She mumbled before making her way to the bathroom.
———
Jae Chan dropped two bags and ran to a (H/C) girl seeing her falling with blood coming out of her stomach. A person turned his head as Jae Chan passed him pushing the man away out of the way. He was crying putting pressure on the wound and yelling for people to call 911.
Woo-tak woke up looking around remembering he was on patrol with his partner.
"Let me drive" Woo-tak demanded as he took off his seat belt his partner looked over confused and pulled over.
"Don't take your seat belt off that quick"
Woo-tak ignored him as he got out of the car and walked to the driver's side. He waited till his partner got out anxiously looking at his watch. He caught a glimpse at the time and date thanks to the wall in the background. He saw what the place looked like which he concluded to be the clothes store in the mall. Once he got in the driver's seat he looked at his watch at 12:07. The clock read 12:29 in his dream and the mall was 15 minutes from where they were. Woo-tak turned the sirens on and sped to the mall.
———
I smiled laying on my bed texting Jae Chan about what time we would meet at the mall. We both decided after dating for a year and a half to move in together. I was moving into his house which meant I would also be sharing a house with his brother who is not aware of this. That's the point of this shopping trip in a way. I wanted to get him a small present in hopes he'd be fine with me moving in. I got up and got dressed leaving my phone on the bed. I decided on a baby pink shirt with black pants. I brushed my hair and added mascara and lip gloss as I didn't feel like fully doing my face. I grabbed my phone, purse, and keys and walked to the door. I slid my sneakers on and made my way to the bus stop. I went on the bus and I saw Jae Chan looking out the window saving a seat for me. I made my way to him and sat down. He looked over and smiled.
"I'm glad you're finally off work so we can go on a date," I said as he smiled.
"I just finished a big case so they gave me a day off"
"You deserve more than a day with all the work you've been doing recently"
"It just comes with the job" He smiled before holding my hand.
"Well I'll always be by your side even if everyone hates you," I said.
"How can anyone hate this face," He said letting go of my hand and putting his hand on the side of his face.
"You'd be surprised mister," I said hitting the red button indicating to stop the bus. "Come on"
"What's that supposed to mean," He said but I just smiled and walked off the bus.
"Mm, nothing," I said smiling as he grabbed my hand. We walked inside the mall and I saw a clothing store I've been meaning to go to. I decided to wait not wanting to drag Jae Chan into the store wanting to surprise him. We kept walking till he stopped.
"Do you mind if I go to another store real quick?" He asked.
"Sure" I smiled. "I'll go to the clothing store"
"Alright, I'll meet you here in about ten or fifteen minutes"
"Sounds good" I smiled.
"I promise I'll be quick," He said kissing me softly.
"Take your time" I smiled.
"I Love you"
"I Love you too"
He kissed me on the cheek again and walked away. I walked inside the store looking around for something worth to wear. I was getting tired of wearing the same clothes on date nights and wanted to impress Jae Chan with new outfits. I smiled at the memories of past dates making me 10x more excited to buy a few new outfits.
Jae Chan walked to the store holding two small bags. He was going to propose soon so he was over the moon when shopping for stuff he needed for his idea. He thought of what to get Seung-won as you keep insisting to get something for his little brother. He walked back to where you two originally left off.
I grabbed two outfits and started to walk to the cash register. I made eye contact with Jae Chan and smiled before I could make it to the register I felt something go through my side. I looked down and saw blood on my baby pink shirt. Jae Chan dropped his bags and ran to me seeing me falling with blood coming out of my stomach. He was crying putting pressure on the wound and yelling for people to call 911.
"It'll be alright" He whispered. "I'll keep you safe"
I looked at him barely able to think. I looked up seeing Jae Chan panicking. I did my best to stay awake holding onto his white shirt accidentally getting blood on it. He kept whispering I love you's and stay awake for me. I made eye contact with him seeing tears fall down his face. The face that deserves a smile, not sorrow. The world started to go black as I lost consciousness.
Woo-Tak ran into the store and froze. He was too late to stop the accident however not the person. Woo-Tak looked around trying to find the face that appeared in his dream. He spotted the man from the corner of his eye and ran after him. The man started running trying to get away from Woo-Tak but he was too slow as he was pushed to the ground.
"I'm Lieutenant Han Woo-Tak from Sangku Division. You are under arrest for attempted murder. You have a right to an attorney and the right to stay silent" Woo-Tak said as he handcuffed the guy who was trying to slip from his grasp.
Woo-Tak called for an ambulance even though others did the same. Kyung Han came running to where Woo-Tak was bewildered by seeing Woo-Tak suddenly arresting someone.
"Ya! You can't keep running off when trying to get someone alone" He said.
"Duty calls" Woo-Tak simply said. "Charged with attempted murder"
"What?"
"He stabbed a young girl in the clothing store," He said looking back. "Can you take him for me? Thanks"
Woo-Tak booked it back to the clothing store shooing everyone away to give space to you two. Jae Chan was a crying mess and Woo-Tak felt awful for not being there on time to help. He placed a hand on his friend's shoulder which made no effect on Jae Chan.
"It's gonna be okay, she's going to make it I promise," Woo-Tak said trying to help him.
He watched as the paramedics moved Jae Chan to the side so they could reach you. Once you were moved onto the stretcher they wasted no time in taking you to the ambulance. Jae Chan raced behind them wanting to be with you. Woo-Tak walked worriedly, he didn't meet you much. All he knew was you and Jae Chan were dating. On his way back to the cop car he picked up what he assumed the bag was Jae Chan's. He continued his way back to the cop car seeing that he was finally in the back. Kang Han whipped his forehead looking at Woo-Tak.
"You owe me now"
"I know" Woo-Tak gave a fake half-smile. "I'll drive to the station and do the paperwork"
Kang Han nodded getting into the car. In the mirror, you could see the man glaring back at him. The only thought that went through his head is why he chose to attempt to kill you. He hoped you'd make it for Jae Chan. Woo-Tak frowned and made his way back to the station letting them know in advance.
———
Jae Chan ran with the paramedics and was allowed in the ambulance. They pushed him to the side as they made sure you were still breathing. He stopped himself from crying even though he wanted to do more. Panic set inside him his eyes darting at every moment the paramedics did. He watched them apply pressure where the wound was and how they made sure the oxygen mask stayed on. Once they made it they rolled the stretcher out and he jumped after. He followed them for as long as they allowed him as he broke down in the middle of the hallway. A nurse had to escort him to a chair and let him know she would tell him how she was doing. He stared blankly at the wall blaming himself.
If only he didn't take you to the mall. If only he went with you to protect you like he promised when you first started dating. He waited hours not leaving the seat he was on. His conversation with his friends and brother were dry. The only thing he looked forward to was waiting for the nurse to tell him the news. Hong-Joo would normally ask several questions to cover the news and get the scoop but she didn't. Even if she tried he wouldn't answer. He thanked Woo-Tak for catching the person who tried to kill you. Oh, would he do his best to convince them to take his case during prosecution.
"Mr. Jung?" The same nurse called his name as he swiftly got up ready to bomber this nurse with questions. "Fortunately he didn't puncture any important organs. Even though she did lose a lot of blood we are going to monitor her for a while. Follow me"
He didn't ask any questions like he originally wanted to. All he wanted to do was see you and make sure you were fully okay. He wanted to be by your side when you woke up. Once they made it to the room his heart broke seeing you hooked to a monitor that caught every beat you made. He gently sat down and held your hand.
"I'm sorry" He whispered tears falling down his face.
"Here," Woo-Tak said gently holding the small box.
"Thank you" He whispered stuffing it in his pocket and paying attention back to you. Woo-Tak patted Jae-Chan's back and left. Jae-Chan stayed by your side till they kicked him out because of visiting hours. He frowned and walked home on his way he got a phone call. He picked it up noticing it was from his work.
"What?" He said bluntly not in the mood.
"We have a case for you," Mr. Choi said
"Listen I don't-"
"It's about what happened at the mall"
"What?"
"It's your case except"
"I'm handling that?" He said his voice piping up a bit.
"Mhm except the person already has a lawyer"
"Who?" Jae Chan said.
"Mr. Lee"
His eyes opened wide and he stopped in his tracks whatever slight happiness flew away.

K-Dramas recommendations & short reviews
Because I've watched way too many to not make a list. Warning: I like romance and fantasy a bit too much.
These shows made me cry. 10/10. Five stars. Recommend to anyone. They live in my mind rent-free:
Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2022) - Attorney Woo is such a wonderful person, I love her character. I can't say much about the representation, but I like that it opens up the conversation around autism & neurodivergence, discrimination and prejudice, particularly in work environments. I rarely like shows about law or lawyers but I was surprisingly engaged with the cases and the story. It deserves a second season. (The only thing I don't like about this show is they're pushing for a MinWoo and Choi Su-Yeon ship. Which huh--disrespectful.)
Tumblr media
Hotel Del Luna (2019) - A great place to start with k-dramas if you like paranormal fantasy. This show has such a special place in my heart. I wanted a different ending but I am okay with it because it was a tight narrative. The main character is iconic (Man-Wol please step on me). The show has amazing sets, AMAZING costumes, an amazing OST, amazing and heartbreaking performance by Yeo Jin Goo. The main couple is so soft; like they're such good friends and coworkers and gentle with each other (eventually). It's enemies to reluctant friends to lovers. It's perfect for asexual viewers who want more than physicality in their romance shows. Cons: the secondary characters' goodbyes and backstories left a little to be desired. A few other nitpicks like Chang-Seong is the one to suggest the main character a new hobby instead of her just discovering it by herself.
Tumblr media
It's Okay to Not Be Okay (2020) - Also a good place to start with k-dramas. This show is a lesson in good narrative; this has perfect writing & storytelling. The cast is so good. The female lead is an icon. The character work I excellent. The mental health issues are so well addressed and it taught me a lot about mental health I wasn't aware of. Each small minor character plays a very important thematic role. (The villain isn't the best thing ever but she serves her role in the themes and plot.) The production and the storytelling with the children's book animations are just *heart eyes*. The OST is so good too. You need to watch this to understand how good a k-dramas can be. A must-watch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Goblin: The Lonely and Great God (2016) - This is the most iconic fantasy/paranormal k-drama ever. A lot of current tropes were started here I think (including the weird k drama last-episode time jump separation of the main couple). This show broke me. You will cry. The bromance and comedy are amazing here too. Gong Yoo and Dong Wook Lee have great chemistry. Main female lead is so cute and her character is so heartwarming. The ending felt a bit rushed. The death, existential related stuff with the grim reapers and such is so good tho.
Tumblr media
Business Proposal (2022) - Best rom-com ever! (Well, it could be gayer tbh.) It's my new comfort show. I already watched it twice. It's campy, hilarious, chaotic, iconic and messy in a way that feels like real life (but obviously played up for drama and comedy). Excellent character work. The love interest is definitely written by a woman. Gorgeous cast (Sejeon omg I have a crush, but also the others). It was too short! I would have loved another episode, and more of Grandpa and Ha-Ri. Warning: this has the weird kdrama last-episode time jump couple separation.
Tumblr media
W: Two Worlds (2016) - A young resident medic accidentally finds her way inside the webcomic her father created. Like, that premise is killer. We have Lee Jong Suk at his finest here; the character fits him so well. He was born to play a lead. This show has amazing meta-commentary on writing, authorship, and existential crisis. The confrontation between the webcomic character Kang Cheol and the author is insane! The main couple is an epic pair. Would rewatch. High wump value. Cons: The second part could have been more swoony with the romance, Kang Cheol kind of became a bit cold. (A warning: this show also has the k drama weird last-episode time jump couple separation.)
Tumblr media
Would recommend with popcorn, I rate them 8/10:
Crash Landing on You (2019) - Really good. The main couple has the best chemistry I've ever seen. It's not that much of a personal fave show, but still pretty awesome and will tug at your heart. It got a bit overly dramatic in the last episodes and again, has that k-drama last episode weird time jump couple separation, but here it actually makes sense. And sort of mirrors the separation and eventual unification of the Korean Peninsula. It was very interesting to see the contrast between North and South Korea.
Shooting Stars (2022) - Aside from the terrible, horrible, insulting Africa storyline (where the male lead goes to 'help' African kids with water scarcity, not even a country name is called, he just goes to *gestures vaguely* Africa to help goddammit he's such a beautiful soul! /s) There's a weird creepy sugar mommy wannabe side storyline and it's weird and out of nowhere. But the rest of it is good and campy and the main characters are so cute. All the couples are cute. The male lead is a cute disaster. Female lead is also a capable cutey but a disaster when it comes to romance. It's hilarious. I love all characters. It's fun. It's great. It shows a very interesting side of the entertainment industry.
While You Were Sleeping (2017) - A man and a woman who don't know each other have precognition powers and after they meet, they use them to take down a corrupt lawyer. The show isn't very heavy on the romance, tough the pair work pretty well together. I liked the main actress. Lee Jong Suk has chemistry with anyone. The male role was not exactly a good fit for Jong Suk. He's so much more naturally charming than the character. It's a fun show to pass the time. The found family is nice and all the characters work great together. The mom is great.
The King's Affection (2021) - I'm going to be honest, I didn't finish watching this. Ups. I got bored after episode 15. It's a very slow show but what I watched was quite good. It was just not a show for me. Having a bisexual male lead was awesome, I appreciate that he falls for the main character while he thinks she's a man. (Could be gayer tho, just saying.) Pretty good discussions and reversals of gender cliches. It has complicated parent-child relationships that are very well written which gives a lot of heart and heartbreak to this story. The political stuff gets very convoluted. I really wish the queer part was bigger though, and not limited to the main couple. We could even have poly representation! I still have half a mind to finish this but I don't know There are so many other shows I'd rather watch instead. (Boy, I really need to get into the actually queer side of k-dramas because the side I'm currently on is giving me crumbs.)
Lovers of the Red Sky (2021) - The premise was so cool. This has so much lore I like and the setting is beautiful and rich, but it also has so much lost potential. The plot is very weak in the second half and could be restructured. I loved the atmosphere, costumes and the actors and their characters: the blind cursed scholar nobleman, the female genius cheeky painter and her friend trio and the prince are all great characters. Ahn Hyo Seop is pretty good in it and looks very pretty indeed in historical costume (but the design of the villain creature he's possessed/cursed with is so, so bad omg). Great premise failed execution. Good first half but it went over the rails quickly. Still entertaining if you like historical fantasy.
Romance is a Bonus Book (2019) - It's a bit slow and could have done so much more with the female lead and her child. She's a bit underwhelming and her daughter is barely in the story. The second female character played by Jeong Eu-Gene was awesome, I love this actress now. Lee Jung Suk is always looking hot and being an excellent actor with what he's given; he's very charming here. He could have chemistry with a piece of wood and yet I wasn't that fan of the romance. Maybe it's just because friends to lovers isn't my cup of tea. There's a weird out-of-nowhere backstory between the male leads. The commentary of ageism in the workplace is a bit surface level (it's not that big of a deal for the company if you're overqualified for a job, the point should be that is an issue for you and your career, who is too good for the company). You can tell the writers really care about books; it's definitely a love letter to editors and an interesting window into the world of book publishing; you can feel the love editors put into making books. Bonus: the founding members of the publishing company have very funny moments.
Do no recommend:
King: Eternal Monarch - Couldn't even finish this. I was so, so confused. The dialogue, narrative and backstory make no sense! Everything is so unnecessarily confusing. There's no chemistry between the main couple. The king and the bodyguard had more chemistry. Lee Jung-Jin (playing the villain Lee Lim) & Woo Do-Hwan (the bodyguard) carried this show and are pretty much the only thing good about it. The female lead is sidelined. It had an intriguing premise but failed execution.
What's Wrong With Secretary Kim - Skimmed most of the second half. It's a mess. The love interest CEO is such a narcissist and asshole he wouldn't be able to keep a working, healthy relationship with his partner without some serious therapy first. The female lead seems to be repulsed by him most of the time even when together and even looks scared when they get intimate. There's an unnecessarily convoluted plotline about the main lead's brother and a kidnapping in their past. It has tonal issues and it's cringy rather than funny. The secondary characters are just a lot of useless filler. The female lead sacrifices her independence and dreams to be with the main guy. Just go watch Business Proposal instead.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo - The only pro of this show is IU. The romance went the undeveloped route. Cheap-looking production, with too many episodes, melodramatic, characters pivot in place instead of naturally developing; it's definitely a telenovela. The point that the female lead is from the future doesn't even matter for the story (should have made her a Goryeo historian instead of a random cosmetologist). Pass!
Tomorrow - Could not finish watching. Please, please don't watch it if you're dealing with depression, bullying or suicidal thoughts. Please don't. By episode 2 I was just screaming at the screen. Problematic? This show invented the word problematic. The supernatural task force that's supposed to save people with suicide risk is terrible at therapy and suicide prevention. They tell the person trying to commit suicide, literally on the edge of a building about to jump, that they should do it, that they're weak, they should just jump, go ahead! Like ... what????
Mystic Pop Up Bar - Didn't capture me by episode 2. Got bored. Some say this is better than Hotel Del Luna but I don't agree.
Abyss - It's a weird tonal mix. Would have preferred if it leaned further into the absurd (go all in with the humour or don't at all), the sci-fi or the murder mystery. Instead of just revealing by episode 3 who the murderer is, quickly changing the plot into a chase after the villain, even though he's so lame. But also he is keeps killing people and it gets dark. And then we cut to the main couple being silly and cute. It's so jarring. The leads have a great dynamic and Ahn Hyo Seop knows how to differentiate his characters really well, give them their own flavour., but in the end it's just a cool premise, failed execution. Very average.
Currently watching:
The Crowned Clown - Very interesting concept and gorgeous, gorgeous visuals. Plot drags a little. Has some tonal problems and oversimplification of politics. The best part is when Yeo Jin-Goo acts with himself haha. He's such a talented actor.
The Uncanny Counter - Get's a bit melodramatic sometimes but all four main actors are insanely good.
Tale of the Nine-Tailed - The main romantic relationship needs a lot more development, but the entire show is worth watching just for Dong Wook Lee and Kim Bum as brothers.
Alchemy of Souls - 6/10 so far. Currently watching season 2/part 2. Aside from the prince, I don't particularly care for any of the characters. Unpopular opinion but the main romantic pair have no chemistry. Mu-Deok has more chemistry with Yul and the prince, and the prince has more chemistry with Jang-Uk. The lore is confusing and inconsistent: it breaks its own rules. (Two souls in one body what?? when was this established as a thing?) There's not enough foreshadowing and setting up the rules of magic in this world (the Ice Stone comes up as a deux ex mahcina big plot point in the last second). It also drags; the episodes are too long. There's a lot of saying and ultimately the show doesn't deliver. The narrative structure is straight out of a fantasy Wattpad. The set and costumes are fun and cool for a fantasy world, and the first episode was great.
