Just discovered the anti Kataang argument that Katara is a mom figure to Aang because she held like him like Mary did Jesus in a statue by Michaelangelo.Aang.Aang is a tibetan buddhist monk.Aang is a tibetan buddhist monk and you guys think the crew gave him a Jesus motif-

genuinely baffled by the level of whole-ass-showing that l*zzie *ls*n stans reach on Twitter. Like, I saw one go into the replies of people who are not talking about mcu wanda, who are explicitly talking about updating the comics character's wiki page so that it better reflects how she's currently being drawn (giving examples of recent covers she's featured on), and say that, referencing the posted covers, "the fan arts don't even look like her that's a whole other woman"
and i'm just like. dude those are official art. Wanda's finally being drawn with respect given to her Romani heritage. you're just obsessed with a literally pale imitation of the real thing. That's a whole other woman, boyo. Get out of our house.

I always love seeing art of myself, whether it’s official or fan-made, but I really do wish people would stop drawing me with such pale skin… Sure, my skin would appear paler under certain lightings, but I was definitely never as pale white as Diluc or Albedo!
Despite the occasional comments I got about my different appearance in Mondstadt (namely from some elderly members of the Lawrence family…), I grew to have pride in my darker skin! And I wish I could see everyone else appreciating it in their art as well.

Finished the live action ATLA. Honestly? I actually really liked it, more than I thought I would, and I wasn't even particularly skeptical about it.
I liked Katara and Sokka's dynamic here actually better than I did in the cartoon. Maybe I would be more attached to Katara being parentified in the cartoon if it was ever resolved in that show, but it wasn't, so I'm fine with it being discarded and taking a different angle with her characterization and relationship with her brother.
I have no complaints about the performances given by the actors (though I do agree with the criticisms of casting light-skinned actors for Katara and Sokka, I still enjoyed the performances, though I know I'm coming from a place of being, like. White. With that--like, people with darker skin might have a harder time enjoying the performances despite that and that's valid).
However, Dallas Liu as Zuko was a highlight for me, he absolutely killed it in every single scene. Easily my favorite casting choice in the whole show.
I also really liked bringing in Azula earlier and not making her just like a demon child who enjoys being evil. The golden child-scapegoat dynamic between Azula and Zuko even as they've been separated for years is interesting and I liked it. (In particular I never liked how Azula in the audience of Zuko being scarred just smirks, so I like how in the LA she clearly has more mixed emotions about it. To me she looks morbidly fascinated and afraid at the same time, which feels right to me.)
I thought the show did a good job of covering the most iconic s1 episodes within their limited time frame by tying them into a connected plotline with each other within Omashu. Also I know the secret tunnel ep was s2 not s1 but I think it worked for this plotline, and I liked that it centered on Katara and Sokka's sibling bond instead of a forced k/ataang moment. (I don't care for that ship but Aang antis do not think I am one of you!)
As for the Sokka no longer being sexist thing: I don't know why we're pretending "Sokka being sexist in episode one, meeting a woman who fights good three episodes later and immediately changing him mind and being normal for the rest of the series" is like some huge plot point that Sokka's character falls apart without. The live action is only eight episodes long, it can't cover everything and I'm fine with it looking at that non-arc and going "yeah, that's not fundamentally necessary." He still felt recognizably like Sokka to me.
(Also others have pointed out that misogyny is cultural and we don't really see much if any sexism in the SWT aside from Sokka, certainly not to the level that Sokka exhibits in ep1, so it's kind of an odd trait for him to have to begin with. Like he just decided independently that women aren't as capable as men? Bruh.)
But yeah, I actually really enjoyed it and I hope we get a second and hopefully third season.

i know this is an unpleasant memory and you dont have to answer ---- how the hell did that racist edit of your mlp art even reach your eyeballs in the first place
someone actually sent it to me to let me know about it (not with bad intentions) - there were actually two edits and the one that came first was a whitewashed edit (i had drawn twilight sparkle as brownskinned in the original piece). i tried to ask people to report the post to take it down, but that didn't work, and the blackface edit came a day-ish after. in the end the website basically removed the options to report the post for the specific racist stuff and i don't think it ever got taken down lol... it's been over a year and it's not as bad to talk about now, but it still pisses me off a bit

Hey dudes and dudettes, Mod Roddy here!
I didn’t want to make this post, however, with the release of the preview pages of the DCTL Graphic Novel, Cobalt broke into my house demanding the staff be redesigned to be more “canon complicit.” They feared with our current designs the Bendy devs would be afraid of interacting with us; “I mean, imagine the horror Mike would feel seeing our Norman!” They muttered, body shaking with either excitement or fear. Of course, my response was- “What? The loosely bendy-based story where Henry is Joey’s brother, Joey and Sammy are married gay lovers and Bertrum x Jack is a thing needs to be closer to canon now?” Their response, as moving as it was mocking, was “Do it or I won’t let you ride the ink demon this summer.”
I am currently pressing charges, but before I had it arrested, it created these edits for me to base the redesigns off of. After they’re done serving their sentence, posting will continue as normal <3

Not a “MVK wasn’t abusive he was a good dad actually” person nor a “MVK was nothing but horrible to Miles and Franziska from day one and never loved or cared about them in the slightest” person, but a secret third thing.

Yet Another Distressing Wyll Mod
Another mod white-washing Wyll was uploaded on 11 January, 2024.
The mod is called "Wylls of Toril" and is created by Fesstrom, who has no other character mods in their history (and only one other mod, a nice mod which adds a popular Wyll hair-mod to his portraits). This is not necessarily indicative of malicious intent, but it does fit the pattern of prior modders who have little to no history other than a fresh account seemingly created for the sole purpose of offering a mod that alters Wyll's appearance, typically in order to make him appear less black.
The mod was originally posted with three screenshots of an alternate model for Wyll's face, along with three different skin-tones, two of which were a light and dark shade of brown, and one of which was white.
I am going to go into some detail below. I am willing to create more of a point-by-point breakdown and get into even further detail, but wanted first to share the basic description and screenshots. I am hesitant to go into a lengthy break-down from the get-go or without request, lest I be leading or present my own biases, upset, and bitterness as something more than my subjective experience. The more I can stick to the screenshots and links, the better.
Further details under the cut!
I (sanguinarialroot on Nexus) and others attempted to point out the racism inherent to this mod, with some overtly accusing the modder of deliberate racism, and other's detailing the issues without any comment on whether the mod was deliberately racist in intention outside of the operation and reception.
There is also a Reddit thread focused on this subject, and to which I contributed multiple comments (and a lengthy, distressing, thoroughly depressing dialogue with a lengthy, distressing, and thoroughly depressing person towards the tail end of a few comment threads... Trigger warning for a host of manipulation tactics or bad-faith dialoguing, as well as racism denial and baiting someone to share their race and then denying said race.)
I also have screenshots of my posts (the link clicks through to IMGUR) detailing the experience, many of which have since been removed due to reasons that the modder only scrambled to add as qualifying for removal AFTER I'd typed up my comments. This is presumably still being done for other users' as the mods post's count has hovered near 65 for around 24 hours now, despite it's prior post progression having rapid accumulation of comments in the hours closer to it's release.
Please read the comments on the screenshots, as I break down quite a bit of what occurred with a bit more detail and chronological progression than I would on a post in this form!
ONTO SOME POSITIVES (if they can be called as much...)
The modder later added another face model for Wyll, which appears to be their original model, with a wide nose and slightly thicker lips. This was done per another user's request. I'm going to be honest, I didn't notice this "fix" until long after my last posting before I was banned. It does not look quite so different from the modder's original alternate head, but I still regret that I did not acknowledge a potential attempt to improve. Of course, the damage was done and it does not absolve the modder, but it was an acknowledgement of a potential issue.
I would also like to thank the modder for remaning civil throughout the comment process! At no point did they speak lewdly or with hostility, and at no point did my banning seem like a drastic response. I can respect the modder's prerogative to remove me from the conversation towards the end. That doesn't mean I tolerate rampant censorship and lack of equitable culling towards their sycophants all across the board, but at least they weren't belligerent or overtly incendiary via their rhetoric.
CW/TW: Mention of racism + racism denial + race denial + whitewashing + and inclusions of links to message boards that include quite a hefty amount of racism + manipulative commenting + foul language + censorship + dismissiveness towards those attempting to criticize or call out what can easily be perceived as a racist project and racist messaging from the modder and/or commenters.
