Chapter excerpt: “Ah, you are clever, and I am proud.” Darian nodded, her brow slowly relaxing from its concerned, drawn-up frown. She seemed to consider what Jozefa had said for a few more seconds, her slow nodding becoming firmer. “Allow me to assist you,” she said.

A brighter smile took over Jozefa’s lips. “As you have every step of the way? Of course, love. You can help me pick clothes to wear for a start, I have no idea what would suit.”

A tunic with padded shoulders, which gave her figure a touch more squareness and a slightly strict edge. Around her waist, it was fastened with a woven leather belt. The buckle consisted of two ravens with their beaks interlocking, forged of darkened steel. Her trousers were of black fabric, her boots the trusty and sturdy set that had seen her from Cathay to the castle.

Draped over that, a cape fastened with a sash over her chest. One of her father’s garments, that had been tailored to her height somewhere during her recovery. It was a deep red colour, which made her ask Darian whether or not that was truly appropriate.

“Red suits you,” Darian said, lining the fur of the collar up with Jozefa’s neck. “It was the royal colour of generations before you.”

Jozefa shook her head. “Leave it,” she said, looking into the mirror. The cape was pompous, fit for a king from a time that was behind her. No more, she decided as Darian took the cumbersome thing off her shoulders again. She already dressed so differently from her usual, in her opinion. Perhaps not truly royal , given that she still lacked her crown, but sufficiently different from her armour and worn-through garments of her past.

And with that, the fic is done! At 73k words, it’s standing as my most niche (published) fic. The one that too 3 years to finish, my self-indulgent masterpiece. This has been Blood of the Witch.

HEY you jumpscared me with that video of Jozefa

I........ take the dubious honour of making most people in my friend group (and then some) watch Witchville, expanding its audience with at least 50 people last I counted. I made a DnD character based on her, and another one based on the tattooed warrior lady from the same movie. I wrote music for them both too. Your vid is really cool and I applaud your editing skills because you managed to make that shitty movie look good :D

Hi there!! I have been fangirling over your fic Blood of the Witch for a while so it's an honour that you found my vid cool. I agree that this movie was a complete mess but gosh, Myanna Buring made it worthwhile for me in such ways that altered my brain chemistry forever. Also, Jozefa is fits perfectly to be an D&D character, as well as Darian. Your song for them must be amazing and your spreading for the Witchville agenda is very much appreciated. I will be letting you know that I'm planning to do more edits for this trash movie, trying my best to make it a little more cooler in order to relish Jozefa a little further. ♡

-Edward’s surprisingly good at being an idol, huh?

-Whoa, Soma just leveled up fifty times over.

-The panel of Agni and Soma when Agni locks him in the room to keep him safe, shut up.

-Rip, Agni. Unfortunately, I had accidentally seen a spoiler of this moment and this moment only, so I’m missing the shock factor.

-Sebastian holding Agni though, shut upppp.

-What?! What is in the picture?! Sebastian lying about what?!

-Finny senses it! Finny senses there’s something off! But how is somebody being Ciel?

-If you say Ciel has a twin, I might get enraged.

-Lizzie’s POV never disappoints.

-Yesss, the estate fam doesn’t disappoint!

-The estate fam picking up Sebastian and Ciel, ugh, I cry.

-Soma’s down a dark path, ugh, the characterizations in this arc, I love them.

-Honestly, the best art, the best consequences, the best character development, the best so many things - all stemming from a premise that I don’t vibe with. Fascinating.

-Although ngl, I’d like to see a bit more of TwinCiel’s POV? Like, yes, he enjoys the rivalry, but why? What changed? Why does that once caring brother orchestrate Ciel’s arrest? Tell me more.

-Yes, TwinCiel, turns out it took quite a while to cure death, you see, grumble grumble.

-Aunt Francis doesn’t look convinced.

-Ooh! Oooohhh who’s Polaris then?

-Man, these backstories are INTENSE. I legit have to take breaks.

-I’m caught up! I can’t believe it, I’m all caught up! Ha!

Chapter summary: Darian's group travels to their home city, taking Jozefa with them. The soldiers make haste to get away from the capital, where Red Queen Indrani grows restless.

This chapter was largely kept the same, with some small additions in the rewrite. Mostly some re-characterisation and consistency errors.

Chapter excerpt: Darian’s eyebrows rose swiftly. The cart was small, as she had expected. It was also in a poor condition, looked to be full of splinters and if that was the good wheel, she didn’t want to know what the bad one had looked like.

Casting a look at Jozefa’s pale face, she felt extremely reluctant to leave her for a few moments, even if it was only to help Batyr and Akari install the carriage behind her horse. She got up with a sigh and was glad to have preemptively decided to pad the faulty cart with her bedroll. The last thing she needed was to give Jozefa an even worse concussion from being thrown around in a bumpy cart.

When placing Jozefa into the cart, Darian saw her eyes open. She was peering from between her eyelashes, searching for a point to focus on, yet finding none. The blue of her irises gave way to white as her eyes rolled in their sockets. A soft, broken sound came from her mouth and one of her hands twitched where it brushed against Darian’s sleeve. The weakened fingers found a bit of purchase on the soldier’s metal bracers, wrapping around it strongly enough for Darian to notice.

“This will be more comfortable than on the horse, I promise,” she quietly said. Briefly, she covered Jozefa’s hand with her own, squeezing a little, before removing it from her bracer and placing it next to Jozefa’s body. She retrieved her blanket and draped it over the smaller woman, ensuring she was warm, as well as comfortable. Then she pulled the cap off her leather flask, holding it to Jozefa’s lips and letting her drink some of the water. When she looked up to her soldiers, she found all three of them staring at her. “What is so very interesting?”
