the ninth doctor trusted rose enough to believe she would stay with him after his face changed. and twelve took some convincing but towards the end of deep breath accepted that clara would stay by his side no matter how old he looked. but thirteen was so used to losing people. her previous self had loved clara and lost her, he had looked after bill and failed to save her, he had tried to redeem missy and (to his knowledge) lost that cause too. no wonder she wouldn’t trust yaz to stay for her fourteenth face. no wonder she believed she ‘had to do this next part alone’. she had grown quietly distant with the new knowledge that she was no longer even an ordinary gallifreyan, not something of this universe, but outside of it, alien even to the aliens. isolated and inaccessible, standing on an invisible pedestal her ancestors placed her on — a pedestal that more resembled a cage. glass walls on all sides like the forced regeneration chamber. thin glass wall between her and yaz now, transparent but too solid to break through. harder than azbantium when there’s no solid footing to stand on.
Tumblr media
of course yaz would run when she saw her new self. of course she would leave. companions would never stay now, they would never fully understand. when thirteen said that she would need to do ‘this next part’ alone, by ‘next part’ she meant ‘the rest of her (potentially eternal) life’. it’s the classic gambit: push the one you love away before they get the chance to reject you. because they always will, now. either that or they die in horrible circumstances. better to flee like you’ve always done.
Tumblr media
this is why the bigeneration was a narrative necessity, why the giggle was the perfect vision of a positive finale. the original version of the doctor gets to settle down with people that he won’t lose. people that he won’t turn away from. people whose hearts he won’t inevitably break. he’s sitting there in the back yard and he’s not going anywhere…
Tumblr media
…yet somewhere out there in sheffield lives a police officer named yazmin khan. she’s not all sunshine and rainbows — all cops are bastards, after all. sometimes she takes her nameless rage out on a shoplifting suspect. sometimes she hands a parking ticket to a kid that didn’t deserve it. and sometimes she does genuine good for the community, sometimes she goes to the club and dances with strangers, sometimes she sits on the sofa and watches a documentary about space exploration and laughs at the painful inaccuracies. and many miles south, the doctor spends time with his family, but he’ll never get the courage to visit her. because she’d want to run away with him again. and he could never give her that, not anymore. anything but running.
yazmin khan loved the universe in the eyes of her doctor. oh, that doctor in the garden? the stay-at-home-doctor? he’s brilliant, but he would never be enough for her. his presence would never replace the cosmic vistas and myriads of stars thirteen gave her. and she’s never coming back

Hi! Can you recommend some long and completed hot/serpent/bad boy jughead and innocent!betty fics? Thanks❤️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks like we have quite a few of you asking for around the same type of fic!
@dundelions - @daisy-in-danger - @elizabethcooperjonez
I know each of your asks are a little bit varied, but I’m just lumping them into one massive list! I’ll add some quite a few of my favorites below as well as some relevant tags. Happy reading & please review!
// jughead: serpent // jughead: southside //betty: girl next door //
Because quite a few of these fics are explicit and contain mature content, PLEASE be aware of the tags listed on the archive!
Also, this got a bit out of hand oops? (sorry, not sorry) please read under the cut!
Dandelion Clocks by @itsindiansummer13 (5/9)
Word Count: WIP / Rating: M
Summary: “Any girl?” Sweet Pea scoffs. “The last one you slept with now prefers the fairer sex too.”
Laughter rises from the group and Jughead shakes his head. “Not counting Toni, the Serpent Prince thing works with any girl - believe me.”
His best friend’s lips curl into a smirk. “Prove it: fuck the North Side princess.”
.
Or, new-to-town Betty Cooper accompanies her sister to Riverdale’s only tattoo parlour - located on the South Side - in an act of rebellion against their parents. There, she meets the brooding, dangerously attractive Jughead Jones, and unbeknownst to her, becomes embroiled in a bet that results in unexpected consequences.
The Art of Redmancy by @xxbettysgirlxx (6/?)
Word Count: WIP / Rating: E
Summary: Redamancy –noun: The act of loving in return. Two strangers find themselves helping each other in more way than one.
Simmer by @lazydaizies (12/12)
Word Count: 84,643 / Rating: M
Summary:  They say it was fate that crossed the paths of the brooding biker gang banger and the naïve sassy ray of sunshine, but whatever the force was that brought them together, everyone said Riverdale changed the day that Jughead Jones met Betty Cooper. Some say she turned the bad boy into a puddle of kittens and others say he turned the sweet good girl into a fierce sexy tigress, while each of them would argue that the other was already those things. Whatever the case may be, those that were able to observe it all go down said it was an amusing tale to watch unfold. Because from day one, it was a tale of lust, loyalty, confusion and hilarity, with love just beneath the surface waiting on a slow simmer…
10 Things I Hate About You by @letstakeawalkonthemildside (11/11)
Word Count: 51,763 / Rating: M
Summary: Reggie’s mouth twisted into triumphant smile “You will be compensated monetarily 100$ a day plus whatever gas and dates costs, and if you keep it up till Prom you’ll find yourself with a brand new motorcycle.”
Three and a half months. Winter Formal was the last week of January and Prom was the second week of May. He turned doubtful, “It won’t be easy, and we have a lot of history, bad history.”
Reggie nodded but spoke with complete confidence “Yes, but you’re a Serpent, and as a snake deception and lies are your specialty. You’re the only one that can do this convincingly and bad history is better than no history at all.”
Strong by @allskynostars (10/13)
Word Count: WIP / Rating: M
Summary: Betty Cooper swore she only signed up to tutor a young girl from South Side High, and definitely not for what followed.
And Jughead Jones didn’t sign up for anything.
Fruit Punch Lips & Leather Jacket Dreams by @believe-that-you-can-my-friend (2/3)
Word Count: WIP / Rating: M
Summary: There’s something about the bad boys that makes the good girls fall in love. Betty Cooper, Riverdale’s ultimate sweetheart, couldn’t be the exception to the rule, especially when Jughead Jones, leader of the young generation of Serpents and bad boy in the making, came into her life like a rider amongst pedal smoke. When Serpents are forced to attend Riverdale High, will her infatuation be reciprocated or will the nemesis between the North and the South create a war zone between them? (Slightly AU)
The Baddest Thing by @noorakardemmomesaetre (5/5)
Word Count: 14,502 / Rating: M
Summary: The perfect girl-next-door reputation has preceded Betty Cooper all her life, just as the rough and angry Southside Serpent reputation has preceded Jughead Jones. Could a simple dare in a small town diner challenge everything?
A/U: Jughead Jones has been an established Southside Serpent since his sophomore year of high school. He was never friends with Archie, Betty, Kevin, Veronica or Cheryl. Betty has been an established cheerleader since their sophomore year and her best friend Veronica has been dating Cheryl since then. They are now seniors.
Serpent Kiss by @crashhale (10/10)
Word Count: 58,215 / Rating: E
Summary: Betty Cooper is a college student, sheltered her whole life and craving to be something more than just the average girl next door. Jughead Jones is the leader of the Southside Serpents, closed off with wounds he doesn’t let anyone see. After a one-night stand, by circumstance they meet again, forever changed as they embark on a relationship. Can this pairing ever work?
The Ring Leaders by Marigold77  (4/6)
Word Count: WIP / Rating: M
Summary: Betty Cooper’s life has been a series of suburban events. She crushed on her neighbor. She learned to swim. She got along with her older sister. She wore pink shirts and nice skirts. She’s done all that has been expected of her, but times have changed. Secrets are threatening to break through, some of which Betty would like to personally expose for everyone to see; others she would like to keep locked up tight and throw away the key.
Upon a tragic and chance encounter, Betty meets Jughead Jones, a Southside Serpent who has taken a keen interest in her and her mission. Together they just might be able to straighten up the town, but first they must shred away the layers of themselves that they would rather keep away from everyone, but slowly they realize that it might be the only way for them to not only co-exist, but to be together.
or
Betty is an intense swimmer (even though I know little about actual swimming) and she has multiple secrets from nearly everyone. Jughead is the son of a serpent leader and slowly falls for the pretty girl who dares to swim across Sweetwater River.*Written pre-season 2*
Fool For You by @bug-headx (12/12)
Word Count: 33,833 / Rating: NR
Summary:  Betty Cooper, the A+ student and perfect girl next door, who had been dating the school’s hottest jock since middle school, winds up with the notorious bad boy, Jughead Jones, the youngest leader of the Southside Serpents. Somehow, stars align for them, making them fall so deep in love, but are they able to maintain a relationship through their differences? How strong are they?
Tempting Fate by @kaylaarann (48/50)
Word Count: WIP / Rating: M
Summary:  Betty is being held captive by the Ghoulies, only to have an unconscious man she’s never met thrown in with her, Jughead. After helping each other escape, things will only get more interesting as the Southside Serpent and High school cheerleading journalist get to know each other better, much better. Bughead, Humor/Romance/Thriller, Smut, Little OOC… Give it a go, you wont regret it!
Pay the Piper by lilylemoncakes (¾)
Word Count: WIP / Rated: E
Summary:  “A Serpent’s help comes with a price. And my price is you. In my bed and at my mercy. For one night.”
Betty goes to the Whyte Wyrm to ask the Serpent Prince for a favor.
The Sacred and the Profane by BubblegumSuburbia (7/?)
Word Count: WIP / Rating: E
Summary: Seeing the twist of emotions and confusion flitting across her face, he leaned in closer to her, so his nose rested on her temple. Eyes dark and sure, he placed his hand on her bare thigh.
“The problem is, Betty…” He breathed softly into her ear, “I would fucking destroy you.”
-
Riverdale is a quiet town during the Summer. Betty and Jughead, having long lost touch since their days of childhood friendship, are drawn to each other over the months after senior year.
The woe of Juliet and her beloved Romeo by @butwelivehappilyeverafter (9/?)
Word Count: 34,865 /  Rating: G
Summary: Before him Betty’s life had been a combination of perfect and completely toxic. She’s forbidden to cross the border to the Southside of town, unable to associate with the ‘delinquents’ that live there to keep up her mothers appearance of a happy Northside family. But all facades fade, and when Betty’s life begins to crumble, she goes to the only person she feels she can trust.
It’s almost a year later, and the Southside is coming to Riverdale High, and so is Betty’s biggest secret.
say my name by endlessdaydreaming (2/?)
Word Count: WIP / Rating: E
Summary: Everything in Betty Cooper’s life was unremarkably constant: Please her mother, envy her sister, pine over Archie, cheerleading with Veronica, write for the Blue and Gold with Kevin, and repeat — until Jughead Jones comes crashing back into her life, with leather jacket, crown beanie, dangerous smile and all.
[Aka that Bughead secret enemies-with-benefits-turned-lovers that I have been dying to read but no one has written yet, where Jughead is a Southside Serpent and Betty had always wanted to be corrupted; featuring sexy af Jughead, slowly corrupted Betty, protective Veronica, and jealous Archie; also angst, issues, pretentious writing, smut, and slow updates.]

If It Were Me: Guardian of the Sacred Jewel
I’m Back. Yes, I’m 100% positive this is a filler chapter, but bare with me. I’m getting to the good stuff later on. I’m still working on turning the tables on the characters and trying to keep them in character- even though Inuyasha grew up with his family, especially his mother, who keeps him from being a total ass. So his woe-as-me I grew up without anyone and I don’t know what love is, is kinda hard to keep up, but I’m trying.
FEEDBACK is important. Negative and Positive both. I need honest opinions. I can take the heat, I’m a grown up and constructive criticism will not kill me or leave me crying in a corner for days. I like my story and I am writing it for me, because I had an idea. Let’s see where it takes me.
I’m tagging my girls. I love them so much and they get me through some tough shit daily. I dedicate this to them. I love y’all so much.
@inunanna @lacyjaybird @kags09 @adorableears7 @inukag-4ever @keichanz
Also, I’m tagging @shardetector @stubbornhaflbreed @winterinkedqueen @gigglesnjunk @grapefruitwannabe for showing interest in the first chapter. So Enjoy.

Previously on If It Were Me:
Midnight fell upon the feudal era, as a woman swiftly made her way to the sacred tree. Her long, black hair pulled back into a low tie behind her. She wore the traditional miko attire and carried with her a bow and a quiver of arrows. Traveling with only her Shinidamachū following closely, she came to the tree. Her dull, brown orbs widened as she noticed her captive had been set free. Her thin lips pulled back into a sneer. “How is this possible?”
Kikyou made her way to the Goshinboku, the only thing left was a small hole, which she knew would scar the bark, were Kagome’s body had been. How did she escape? Kagome’s powers were nowhere near as powerful as her own. In fact, Kikyo knew nobody or nothing was as powerful as her. She hated that she could not figure out what had caused this. Anger began to fill her cold, clay vessel of a body. Turning to the forest, she sensed powerful youkai, one with an aura which almost surpassed Naraku’s.
Looking out into the clearing before the tree, she spotted what remained of Mistress Centipede. She furrowed her brows. Something was not right. Whatever, or whomever had resurrected Mistress Centipede just to slay her, was a very powerful demon indeed.
She waved her hand to summon the Shinidamachū. White snake like creatures surrounded her and carried her off to her next destination. She would find Kagome and kill her, before her cousin had the chance to retrieve the shikon jewel. Kikyou never found the jewel once Kagome was sealed, which meant Kagome sent the jewel to a safe place and if she was awake, then she would be after the jewel in mere time.
“Take me to Naraku.” They had much to discuss.
---TBC---
Chapter Two
Guardian of the Sacred Jewel
or
Getting to Know the Guardian of the Sacred Jewel
---IIWM---
“What are you doing back so soon, Kikyou?”
“My trip to the Goshinboku did not go as planned, this time around.”
“Oh, how so?” His voice dripped with malice while ruby eyes, the only thing she could visibly see of the man, glistened in the dark room.
“Because, Kagome has been set free.”
“What?!” The walls of the castle around her shook with a groan. “Set free? How is that even possible?! You swore to me no one was strong enough to break the captivating spell you placed on that bitch. Kikyou, you should have killed her when I commanded it so.” He hissed through clenched teeth.
“There wasn't supposed to be anyone strong enough to break the spell, but I felt a very powerful demonic aura as I approached the tree. The power almost surpassing your own.”
Naraku blinked before he barked out an evil cackle. “You care to repeat that? No one or nothing has the power to overcome me. I am as strong as one thousand demons. There is none like me.”
“You fool, I was the one who gave you that power. I was merely warning you that I indeed felt a very powerful youkai aura. If whatever it was could free Kagome, then you may very well have a problem.” Kikyou kept her voice calm as she spoke, something Naraku found annoying to say the least.
“First, find out where the Shikon Jewel is. Kagome must have hidden it when I used your arrow to pin her to that tree. Instead of killing her, like I demanded of you, you decided to curse the arrow and seal her in an eternal sleep, promising me I would be able to grab the jewel from her possession." Naraku stood from his position on the floor and made his way towards the dead priestess in the center of the room. "However, Kagome bested you, before she fell under your curse, she was able to hide the fucking jewel from us! Now that she’s awake, she will be after the jewel in no time!" Kikyou didn't so much as flinch when he came nose to nose with her and spit sprayed against her pale cheeks as he screamed. Calmly, she wiped away his bits of saliva and rolled her eyes, not even bothering to follow his movements as he circled the floor around her.
"After we find the jewel, you will find whatever possesses this aura you sensed and bring it to me. I will deal with that myself and this time, Kikyou, you will kill that bitch, or else."
Kikyou gave a mock snort. “If you haven't forgotten, Naraku, I take orders from no one, you arrogant fool.”
“Kikyou, do I need to remind you who brought you back from the dead? I could have left you in Hell, but I didn’t because I love you.”
“Love? You know absolutely nothing about love.” Kikyou spat as she turned on her heel and walked off. “Find the demon yourself. I am going after my dear ole cousin.”
“Don’t walk out on me Kikyou.” The half-demon's eyes narrowed as he shot forth a few sets of tentacles. “Kikyou!”
Said miko notched an arrow before whirling around and gracefully firing at the oncoming attack. When the tentacles disintegrated into white dust, Kikyou lowered her weapon. “Goodbye Naraku.” With that, she was gone in a cloud of Shinidamachū.
---IK---
“Lay her on the futon, quickly. Gently.”
The young priestess was still rendered unconscious as Inuyasha slowly laid her on the futon which Kaede usually slept. The elderly woman made her way to Kagome’s side as she clutched a small bowl and some medicinal herbs. Old bones popped and creaked as she knelt next her cousin. “Ye may want to step aside.” Kaede spoke to Inuyasha. “I must undress Kagome and tend to her wounds.”
“Keh.” Inuyasha stepped aside to let the old woman do whatever she needed to do in order to help Kagome. He slid his hand into his pocket and pulled out his charm. Careful of his ears, he placed the rosary back into its rightful place. He could smell the herbs even before he stepped inside the small hut. He wasn’t sure if he should leave before he got nauseated, or stay to aid Kaede. The beaded sweat that had formed on Kagome’s brow and her small moan of protest made the decision for him.
Kaede mashed the herbs in her wooden mortar with her pestle continuously until it was a clump of green paste. She placed the mortar aside and went to removing the white haori and carefully peeling it from the gash on her shoulder. “Will ye hand me the basin of water and a white cloth from the table?” Inuyasha nodded and went to fetch the items she requested.
He sat crossed legged with his back to Kagome as he folded his arms. “Will she be okay?”
Kaede nodded, though Inuyasha could not see. “If I can stop the blood flow, she will have a better chance at surviving.” Kaede cleaned the wound quickly, and carefully, dabbing it dry so she could see the damage. The wound was fairly deep, but Kaede knew what to do. She packed the green paste into the wound, Kagome’s sweaty brow crinkled at the impact and a soft moan escaped her lips. Kaede smoothed the paste until the entire area was covered and the bleeding had formed a large clot. “Will ye help me sit her up?” Inuyasha sighed, a slight red tinge crossing the bridge of his nose. He didn’t want to invade Kagome’s privacy, he heard women from different era’s were more modest than the women he was use to, but he had to do whatever he could to help.
Wait, why do I need to or even want to help? Inuyasha hated to admit it, but he felt something strange when it came to he young priestess, a sudden urge, deep within him, to protect her. He closed his eyes and moved to kneel above Kagome’s head. He gently reached beneath her shoulders, careful of her injury, and lifted her off the futon. Kagome gave a cry of protest and stiffened against his large hands. Kaede set to work wrapping a white bandage around the priestess’ breasts and injured shoulder. Before long, her entire arm from the elbow up, was covered in a thick bandage. Her torso from the bottom of her sternum to the top of her breast were wrapped snug and hidden from view. “Ye can lay her back down now.” Inuyasha gently placed her back the way she was. Kagome’s brow was still covered in drops of moisture and her face was scrunched up in pain. He took a damp cloth and dabbed her forehead until she felt cooler, as well as pulling her long raven locks from beneath her back to let cool air reach her neck. He noticed her face was still pale, even in the dim firelight. “She must rest for the night. I have done all I can.” The old woman sighed, her one good eye set on Inuyasha.
“What is it old hag?”
She cocked her brow at him. “Ye wound needs tending to. Allow me to bandage it.”
Inuyasha grunted. “No thanks. I will heal before sunrise. The bleeding has stopped anyway.”
Kaede nodded. “If ye say so.” Once again, her good eye landed on him.
“I’ll stay up and watch her. You can go to sleep.”
“Ye are a stranger. How am I to trust ye, half-demon?”
Inuyasha gave a snort. “You don’t, but I ain’t leaving until I know the wench lives through the night.” He leaned against the wall of the hut and crossed his arms and legs.
“Fine.” Kaede stood and went to fetch an extra futon. Laying it on the opposite side of the hut and the fire, she settled down for the night. The elder laid her bow and quiver next to her--- just in case.
Inuyasha watched closely. “Feudal era? Keh. I still can’t believe that damn well brought me here.”
Fate.
“Fate? What kind of twisted fate is in the feudal era for me?”
I’ve been waiting for you for so long, Inuyasha.
“Who are you, and why have you been waiting on me?”
Only you can save me.
“What the hell are you talking about? Save you from what?”
Only you.
“Answer me. Who are you?”
“Ka--go--me.” A voice whispered. “I thought we established that already.”
Inuyasha’s eyes snapped opened and his chocolate gaze landed on her. “I know who you are, wench.” He snapped looking down at a pained woman wrapped in bandages. “How are ya feeling?”
“Like a demon ran through me.” She winced when she tried to move. “Who were you talking to?”
Inuyasha crossed his arms. “No one. You are delirious. Go back to sleep. The old hag said you need your rest.”
“How is your arm?” Her voice cracked as she spoke.
Inuyasha stood slowly to fetch her a cup of water that Kaede had used to drink out of moments before she attended to Kagome’s wound. He placed it to her lips as she slowly lifted her head to drink. “Fine. The bleeding stopped earlier. I’ma be good as new come morning, but forget about me. Lie back down and go to sleep.” He muttered.
“You have the most beautiful eyes.” Kagome whispered. “Why do you cover them up all the time?”
If Inuyasha blushed, well no one needed to know. “I already told ya. Where I come from, demons and half-demons, are not accepted by all humans.”
“But you are here now. You can walk among us without the disguise. I won’t let harm come to you.”
“I don’t need yer protection. No go to sleep.” He turned from her this time. He heard Kagome grunt in pain, but no further conversation was heard. He snuck a peek at her, his hearing picking up the calming sound of her even breathing. He hated to admit it, but she was absolutely beautiful. He had never met someone so full of bravery and beauty. The way she stood tall to the demon, to protect him no less, was astounding. No one had ever done that for him before, even though in his world, no one ever had to.
Inuyasha started to think that maybe being stuck in this world wasn’t so bad, but he had just arrived. He had no idea what was lying around the corner. Sitting back against the wall in the same position he was in before, he closed his eyes.
And who did that angelic voice belong to?
As the hut slept, no one noticed when a faint pink glow surrounded Kagome.
---IK---
The sun was warm against her cheek causing her to stir from her sleep. Kagome opened her eyes only to quickly shut them. “Way too bright.” She murmured. Trying to sit up was also a mistake she noted. The pain from her wound sent shock waves through her body, but it was nowhere near as bad as the night before. Still, Kagome laid flat and took a deep breath. “Lay down, don’t move.” She instructed herself. No one was in the hut with her. She felt a faint demonic aura, she guessed was Inuyasha, but he wasn’t close to her. Keeping her eyes closed, she recalled the dream she had the previous night.
It was dark and she could only see a silhouette of a tall figure. Not knowing who or what it was, it called to her, repeating her name like a mantra. She was scared at first, but she quickly realized that she had nothing to fear. However, once the figure stepped closer, red eyes appeared from the darkness and she shrunk back. Maybe she did have one thing to fear after all.
Coward.
She mocked herself. Kagome had lied to herself, repeating that there was nothing to be afraid of, but there was. He would always be there to haunt her. The one man she fell in love with, the one man she saved, protected, and healed had betrayed her. Taking her cousin down with him, Kagome had lost two people she loved at once. Of course she knew Kikyou never saw her as a loved one. No, she envied Kagome for having the life she wanted. Thus, her cousin’s betrayal cut Kagome deep.
He was in her face now, hands around her throat, as she gasped for air. He pressed his body against hers, his lips inches from her face as he spoke. “Give me the jewel, Kagome. I know you have it.”
She turned her head, her face quickly blooming red. She tried to choke out she didn’t have it, that she didn’t know where it was, but his grip was too tight. She kicked and scratched at him, trying to get him off of her, but it was no use. He was too strong. Her vision became blurred and soon the darkness faded and a light poured in. Kagome saw the silhouette of another, one that had a red glow around it. She couldn’t see the face, but whoever it was grabbed at Naraku, pulling his grip off and freeing Kagome. She took in greedy, gulps of air as if she had been submerged in water. Falling to her knees, Kagome looked up. All she could see was red. The new comer was protecting her, shielding her from Naraku’s angry glare.
Whoever it was that saved her had to be a man, tall before her, and when she tried to look at his face, a red haori and a sword was she could see in front of her. He spoke, but she woke up before she had the chance to hear his voice.
She opened her eyes. Red haori and a sword? She pondered. Who was it that saved her from her demons? Kagome sighed. She only wished it would be Inuyasha. It wouldn’t be the first time he freed her from captivity. Shaking her head, she touched her reddening cheek. “Why does he make me feel so- so safe?” The miko whispered.
“Who?”
She jumped at the deep voice. “Oh Inuyasha. I see you’re doing well this morning.”
He gave her a smirk. “I told ya I’m a fast healer.” The hanyou sat beside her, handing her a wooden cup. “Drink. The old hag told me it would help with the pain.”
She glared at him. “Her name is Kaede. Show some respect to your elders, Inuyasha.”
“She’s elderly alright.” He murmured. “Drink.”
“It’s still so unusual to call her an elder.” Kagome chuckled weakly as she tried to sit up, Inuyasha being there quick to lend a hand. “It doesn’t hurt as bad this morning. It just feels like pins and needles all over my torso. There is pain, but not as much as before.” Inuyasha sat behind her, letting the beauty rest her back gently against his chest. Kagome took the wooden cup and brought it to her parched lips. The cool liquid was putrid and she gagged a few times before the cup was empty. She shut her eyes to control the sudden urge to vomit the medicine back up. “That was disgusting.”
“I know. I could smell it from the well when Kaede made it for you.” The grin on his face was hidden behind her hair.
She opened her eyes to peer at him over her shoulder. “The well?” Inuyasha grunted. His silver hair was falling over his shoulders and she reached out to run her fingers through it. “I thought you didn’t want the villagers to see your youkai?”
“Yeah.” He wasn’t about to admit it was because of what she said the night before. When he felt a small blush cross his cheeks, Inuyasha yanked his head back and the strands fell through her fingers. Clearing his throat, that had suddenly gone dry, he replied to her earlier statement. “I was trying to figure out how to get home.”
She sighed. “I see. Well, if you would help me up, I will get my haori on and we will figure it out together.”
He nodded and steadied her before he went to get her shirt. Helping her slowly, he waited for her to slip her arms in before he tied the front knot and stood. Kagome flashed him a grateful smile as she reached for him with her good hand. Inuyasha grunted, rolled his eyes, but helped her up anyway. The miko swayed a moment, the pins and needle feeling she felt earlier rushed to her legs and she fell into Inuyasha’s side. The medicine quickly took effect, a secret remedy passed down from Higurashi to Higurashi and the sensation she had felt ceased. Kagome sighed with relief as she regained her footing. She felt her cheeks heat up as Inuyasha’s hand remained at the small of her back where it landed to aid her. The man beside her smelled so nice, but there was no words to describe the it. It wasn’t of her world.
“Let us be on our way.” Kagome said, straightening up.
“Feh.” He retracted his hand and stepped ahead of her to push the reed mat aside. Normally he wouldn’t be so nice, but he had a mother who was anything but rude, and enough whacks to the back of his head was enough to let him know how to treat a woman, no matter what era they were from.
Kagome stood there, watching him. What was he doing? No man had ever done such gestures for her. “Wench, get a move on. We ain’t got all day.” Of course, he had to open his vulgar mouth.
She sighed. “Okay dog-boy.” He stiffened and suppressed a growl as she walked by.
It was hot, almost an unbearable heat, but it was a beautiful morning. With few clouds, Kagome knew the village was in for a long, smoldering day. The crops were ready to harvest and with no shade, she would make sure the women supplied enough water for the men. She spotted Kaede. “Good morning, Kaede.”
“How do ye feel, child?”
“Better, thanks to your putrid drink and whatever you did last night.” She giggled. “We are on our way to the well. I am going to help Inuyasha figure out a way to get home.”
Kaede smiled. “Take these.” She handed Kagome a quiver and bow.
“Thank you. I will be back soon.” She bowed, wincing at the stretch of her shoulder.
The two set off towards the forest.
Soon the well came into view. The open field was covered in a variety of colorful wildflowers that swayed in the gentle breeze. Kagome’s hair danced around her as she closed her eyes to inhale. “The flowers smell so nice.” She whispered.
Inuyasha watched her, captivated by her beauty. Though the man was unsure how she was so easily carefree about letting her hair stay loose in the heat of the day. He had long pulled his hair back in its low ponytail, finding it was much cooler that way. Walking closer to the well, he asked, “How do you think it works?”
Kagome shrugged. “This well hasn’t been used in years. It was once a well that drew up spring water that was so pure and cold, people from villages all over traveled to use it. One day it just dried up and not a single drop of water was left. So they began using it as a burial for demon corpses. There is no telling what happened and what brought you here.”
“There was a light. It grabbed me, pulled me down and a woman told me she was waiting for me. Crazy as that sounds.” His clawed hand brushed his silver bangs aside.
“A woman? Who was she?”
“I don’t know. Never saw a face.” Inuyasha grabbed the edge of the well before turning to her.
“What had ya so freaked out last night? You looked like you were having a nightmare.”
Kagome looked up at him. “Because I was.” She turned to sit down. “Would you like to know why I was pinned to the Goshinboku? How I ended up in an eternal sleep?”
Inuyasha sighed. “Is it going to be a long story?”
Kagome shot him a glare. “Sit.” She commanded. He growled lightly at the dog command, but sat anyway. “I was in love.”
Inuyasha scoffed. “Hell no, woman. I do not want to hear a love story.” He went to stand, but she grabbed his wrist.
“I was in love with a man who was so deprived of power, that he consumed one thousand demons.” That caught his attention. Inuyasha stopped, sitting back down with a shocked look on his face. “His name was Onigumo. He was a wounded soldier from a village across the land. He was burnt from his neck to his toes by a group of bandits, left for dead. I was traveling with Kaede at the time, to go see her sister, Kikyou. She too was, or is, a priestess of extraordinary powers.
“We found him off the side of a road east of here. We did what we could to haul him onto the back of our wagon. Instead of continuing to see Kikyou, we rushed him back here to tend to his wounds. Before long he was bandaged and healed. His body was 90% burned except for his face. The ends of his hair were singed off, but that was about it. Days turned to weeks, weeks to months, and months to a year. Soon he was able to walk again, then he was able to run, soon it was as if the accident never happened.”
Kagome took a breath and a tear fell from her eye. “I never left his side. I was always there for him.” She let a sob fall from her lips as Inuyasha, on instinct, wiped the tear away.
“Anyway, we fell in love. Or so I thought. Kikyou came to visit time after time, and soon became interested in Onigumo. Now, Kikyou was a jealous woman. She hated me because I was the chosen guardian to watch over the sacred jewel, a stupid little thing that every demon and human wanted, or stills wants to control. Only problem is that it controls you. She wanted everything I had, including Onigumo. Kikyou claimed it was love, her soul mate and before long, he had drifted apart from me. I assume it was because of Kikyou. She filled his head with lies that I could never love a man so hideous, so scarred and broken.
“Apparently he believed her. One night I went looking for him. I wanted to talk to him, tell him it was all lies that I did love him. Nothing could change that, but in the end I wrong. I heard voices as I came across a clearing. Kikyou had something in her hand and Onigumo had snatched it up without a second thought and whatever it was, he drank it. Then Kikyou pulled a blade from her haori, before she swiftly brought the blade to his chest, here-” Kagome touched Inuyasha’s chest, right over his heart.
“He let out an unforgettable scream, and as I rushed out to stop her, she had begun to chant. I didn’t recognize the magic at first, but then I remembered my mother telling me of forbidden, dark magic that some priestesses use. Stopping in my tracks, I noticed a white ring surround them. Onigumo was on his knees, his blood was dripping from his chest, off the blade of the dagger and from her hands. The ring of light disappeared before a swarm of demons appeared and came rushing out of the midnight sky. Kikyou fell back onto her butt as he absorbed them into his body.”
Inuyasha gulped. A thousand demons?
“After the sky cleared, I was too shocked to move forward. I became afraid so I hurried behind a tree to hide. Kikyou stood, reaching out to the man before her. I can still remember the words they spoke as if it was yesterday-” Kagome quoted the conversation so precisely, it was like she was reading from the pages of a twisted fairy tale-
“Onigumo, your body is restored.” Kikyou whispered.
“You know what I want?” His voice was deeper, chilling, evil.
“Yes, Onigumo.”
“Call me Naraku.” He laughed.
“Then he reached for her, kissing her deeply. He had never kissed me like that before. Soon Kikyou was pressed against a tree, Onigumo against her—“ Kagome stopped short, her hand falling from Inuyasha’s chest.
“Let me guess, screwing her brains out right?” Inuyasha interjected.
Kagome shot him a glare. “Screwing her? What is that?”
“Um, having rough sex.”
“Idiot, but yes. He was screwing her, as you so bluntly put it. They were oblivious to my presence, and like a horrible battle, I couldn’t tear my eyes away. I didn’t want to witness what I saw, but I couldn’t believe it was true either. How he could so easily betray me after the year we had spent together and the following six months we had started to plan a life together. It was all a huge mistake.”
Kagome shuddered at the memory. “His eyes became a vivid crimson and his hair grew down to his thighs; it was as black as his heart use to be. During the conversation between the two, he mentioned that his heart no longer resided in his chest and Kikyou was to look out for it. Onigumo was gone. Naraku, a half-demon, now walked the earth; He, more powerful than any demon, until I met you. Your demonic side sets off an aura almost surpassing his. I didn’t notice at first because you looked like Onigumo when I met you, but since he is long dead, I thought Naraku was playing another trick on me.”
“A trick?”
“He can shape shift or clone himself, I’m not sure which it is, but he took Kikyou’s form and tried to steal the jewel from me. Of course Kikyou had already come to me the morning before and tried to make amends in order to steal the jewel. Kaede tried to warn me of her sister’s plans and in the middle of the chaos, Naraku struck Kaede down, taking out her eye.”
“Are you serious? She was only what, eleven then?”
Kagome nodded. “Once I took care of her, I went after Naraku. I wanted to end his pathetic life and rid the world of him, but he was too strong. Instead of killing me like he ordered Kikyou to do, she must have sealed me to the tree in a deep sleep. Only to wake up to you, Inuyasha.” She blushed. “I don’t know what happened to the jewel. I thought they had it, but if so, the world would cease to exist. Naraku would have surely destroyed everything in his path.”
Inuyasha nodded. “I heard stories about the Shikon jewel, but my father said it disappeared when he was in the feudal era.”
“Whose your father?” Kagome asked.
“Inu no Tashio, but he’s known as Touga Tashio now.” She gasped scooting back a bit.
“Inu no Tashio, the inu-youkai Lord of the Western lands? He disappeared years ago. I was two when the war between humans and demons commenced. My mother told me my father died fighting the Western Lord, and the body disappeared after my father’s death.”
Inuyasha sighed. “I’m sorry about your father, but no, my father is very much alive. He’s been alive for over five hundred years now, err- in my time. He’s actually much older. He met my mother twenty years ago and had me a couple years later.”
Kagome shook her head. “I know a mountain that holds the castle of the Lord Inu no Tashio. The people of the castle concealed it after his death, and rumor has it, it’s now abandoned.”
Inuyasha’s ears perked up and he stood. “Take me to it.”
She shook her head. “It’s too dangerous.”
“So. I have some weird blood flinging power and you have your sacred arrows. We’ll be fine.”
Kagome sighed. “Do you really think this is wise?”
“I’m the son of the Lord of the West. Yer the Guardian of the Sacred Jewel, even though you don’t technically know what happened to it, you still kick ass you with yer arrows. I think we got this.” He extended a clawed hand to her and she gratefully took it.
“Fine. Let’s go. It’s a three day travel. I warn you, the terrain is tough for someone who is not used to this climate.” She stepped towards the West, Inuyasha following close behind her, hands shoved in his pockets.
“Will you be okay, yer shoulder and all?” Kagome cocked her head to the side and smiled with a nod.
“It keeps getting better each moment. Crazy how fast that medicine is working.”
“Good. Then let’s do this.” He wanted to see the castle his father inhabited, and maybe learn a few things about his family and his demonic side that his father never told him about. Plus, a few more days with Kagome wouldn’t be so bad, though hell would have to freeze over before he would admit to such a thing.
The priestess in mind kept a steady pace ahead of him with a smile on her face. Kagome was happy he was staying a bit longer too, but he didn’t need to know that either, thus his ego would get too big. Giggling, she peered over her shoulder to see him looking at her. When their gazes locked, they both blushed and averted their eyes.
It was going to be an interesting few days.
Thus, their journey had begun.

Warning: Religion, Violence, Fictionalized Religion
"Can you hear that sound? Can you? It is the Lord! He speaks through us - all of us! He wishes for us to hear Him! He is speaking through you and you and yes, my sons and daughters - He even speaks through me. And He tells me that we are the voice of the people. We are His voice! It is His divine will that we live for Him, we honor His sacrifice, we rise up and say... There is no president. There is no king. There is no monarch or dictator or politician in sheep's clothing that speaks for us - they live by greed! They live by gluttony! They live in sin, protecting the non-believers and paying ear to the sinners! They are not for us - we must be for us. And, what’s more, we must speak for Him and all that He had stood for! And I don't know about you but my words from God are clear:
And the Lord God said to His people: "Go forth and claim your righteousness - the land, the home, the country that is yours! Reclaim it from the sinners, the wicked, the rebels for they have no place on this Earth! They must be purged to protect the pure, the meek, the innocent!"
Together, we can create a country - perhaps even an entire world - that is for God's people!"
What had the United States become?
A cesspool of corruption and sin, compounded by politicians who claimed to be 'for the people'. They would belittle their struggles and trample over their own supporter's beliefs by amending the laws for the deviants or by creating tax breaks for the lazy lower class. Debt all across the country sky-rocketed but property taxes continued to rise to astronomical levels, leading to homelessness and poverty that ran rampant in every major city in the United States. Crime became a commonplace, as a last ditch effort to survive in a failing economy. But there was a ray of light that held it all together: religion. The mere idea of God was enough to keep some people on the right track, one of innocence and sanity. It was this tie that kept families together and that the mention of God in presidential speeches brought strength and the hope that one day, things would improve. It was promise; sworn by the politicians that all of their fears would be quelled.
Such a time never came.
Even the most devout followers of Christ could only follow for so long in the face of hardship. As months turned to years, and years became two useless presidential terms followed by another equally useless man, there seemed to be no reason to continue the facade. Sundays became just another day at work to pay the bills. Churches were left empty, some even boarded up following repeated vandalism. All the while, the idea of the nuclear family disintegrated right before America's eyes. New generations were forming, ones who didn't know the Lord, with parents as apathetic and hopeless as they were.
There must be a cure.
It was a church like no other before it!
One that reached people through social media, lending a hand to those in need by providing donations – or even by sending its group out in droves to build houses for the needy. There was a house of worship, of course, a mega-church so large that it took up acres upon acres. It was truly a pinnacle of faith that's size rivaled even that of the White House. People would come from all over the country to witness it but soon, they wouldn't have to - more churches bearing its name sprouted up over night so no matter where a person went, they could find solace, not sin, in their daily lives. Pre-packaged and readily available.
And it wasn't just the religion the people came for.
The founder acknowledged the suffering of many and the plights of the downtrodden; they were in need of help and the president, nor the cabinet, had done their duty. Instead, they were just biding their time in office so that they could pass along the problems to the next sorry sap that stepped through the door after them.
No, they had no intention of fixing the problem.
But the founder, he had nothing but intentions. Great intentions put into play by a council - a large group of devout believers - that mingled with the people, heard their woes and took their suffering into account. Armed with the feelings of the people, they fought back against the government amendments, stripping away the 'equality' that was a sin against God and the murder described by the ignorant as a 'choice'. They even fought for the rights of the people in terms of wages, demanding to know where their tax revenue was being spent, eventually marching on Washington to get answers. This, and so much more, all in the name of 'The People'. But to get real change, they would need more power - and they knew exactly where to get it.
Running under 'The People' - the church that amassed a following so large that it surpassed any other religion in the United States - put its name forward to run in the presidential election. Per the rules, they ran only under their founders name but the founder assured them all that they would each have a voice in the new world they were set to create. Winning by a landslide, the people now had a choice in their own lives, their own country and how things were finally being run. And the first place they'd start was with a slogan used on the campaign trail, the hope of a 100% pure, moral America.
Campaign promises soon became a reality as the law-abiding citizens were asked to turn over all other religious texts, materials, clothing, anything that might turn them away from their goal of a Christ-driven society. For their obedience, they would live in cities free of crime, poverty and the misery that they lived before. These cities of the blessed were a utopia, filled with people of good moral fiber, strong homogeneous faith and a God-based foundation for which to build their family. And jobs would be prosperous as those undeserving of God's love would be removed, placed into jail until they, too, saw the light. A mass deportation began of all those that refused to convert in the name of the Lord, some by law, others, by force. Those that dared to fight were jailed on disturbing the peace, destruction of public property and in some of the most severe cases, even treason. Anything could put them behind bars. While they awaited their sentences, they would be generously provided with broadcasts from the church and reading material (the Holy Bible, of course, as well as a few others the founder had added), given (little) food and water to drink and worked day and night until their spirit was finally broken.
"But once broken, you can be pieced back together by the Lord's hand and in every fiber of your being, He will be stitched."
Those that offered to repent would be given the opportunity to speak to a panel to determine their sincerity; if they were nothing more than heathens and liars, they would be placed back in their cells to await absolution. Those that truly spoke of the Lord would be paroled, placed into transitional cities going through the 'moral cleanse' that was sweeping across the nation. Eventually, the transitional city in which they lived would be 100% cleansed or they would be moved to a blessed city to join society once again.
It's been twenty years since the church was created and as the founder comes up to the end of his second term as president, a new member of the council is looking to take his place. Per the word of God, "this is to be the natural progression of things. That one of God's chosen people will always retain control". But not everyone is so willing to accept their message.
Some are even daring to fight back.
Enter Warren, a known arsonist and troublemaker since the time he could talk. Warren, like so many others, has been detained by the church and ordered to confess his sins, as well as repent for all the pain he's caused. And while the last thing on Warren's mind is to seek forgiveness, he agrees if only to escape the conditions in which he was kept. Now finding refuge in a transition city, Warren to find himself a disguise as an unsuspecting soldier ready to 'execute the sinners' in a public show of power. But, true to Warren, he's never played by anyone else's game.
After firing on the soldiers, the sinners scatter and Warren disappears just as quickly as he had come. But this time, he has a tag-a-long. Thomas, a man from one of the blessed cities, had unintentionally stumbled across the execution and is intrigued by the man he's just laid eyes on and follows him with hopes that he'll find the answers he seeks. Instead, all he finds are more questions. Together, the two blaze a trail of destruction and death wherever they go, taking down one of the major blessed cities and opening their eyes to the lives of the other half. Furious that the People have seen too much and may begin to question all the founder has built, he orders that all sinners, whether in the transitional cities, the streets or even in the jails, be executed.
"It is not without love that He sends these words, asking that we take up arms against the sinners. In fact, it is with the deepest love. The Lord wishes for us to send his wayward sheep home for only He can truly change their mind."
Now, Warren and Thomas are two men on the run from what can only be described as attacks of biblical proportion. Fire raining from the sky, stars falling to the Earth and civil war cripple the United States, all in the name of moral cleansing.
There is no telling whether or not the two will make it out alive but if they want them dead, the founder will have to catch them first.
