Heavy Trip (2018): Review

(Spoliers free)

Just watch the movie today, and im going to say...this was the BEST metal movie I ever watch so far. (Thinking about watching deathgasm next)

To start off, if you dont know, Heavy Trip is a 2018 film about four Finnish metalheads (Turo, Xytrax, Jynkky, and Lotvonen) of the band "Imapled Rektum" got a big opportunity to play in a metal festival in Norway. It's basically a fish out of water story of the lead singer, Turo, of him facings the lions (metaphor for his fears).

The best part of the film is the characters, music, and comedy. My favorite characters are definitely Xytrax who is awkward but very smart about metal music and Jynkky being the passion and the shine of his friends and band. Turo is the most relatable character since I used to go through what he went through (being afraid to be seen as a failure). Unlike Hunter from Metal Lords (2022) which the people in his school actually have a good reason to not like (since he an asshole to everyone including his best friend); Turo is actually kind to everyone and the townspeople treat him like shit just because of how he looks. The only character I don't like is Jouni (idk he gives me "to catch a predator"/ pedo vibes).

Moving on, the soundtrack is amazing. There only song was the best orginial song in a movie I ever heard. Way better than Skullflower's songs in Metal Lords. The only problem I have (more like a nick pick) is I wish they put more metals songs espeically black metal since they're in Finland going to Norway.

Lastly, there were so much funny scenes in the film (mainly during the end of the film). There not one time I didnt stop laughing. The film is soo chaotic, that is funny asf. At least for the metal jokes, Its acutally seem sinecre and dont take themsevles seriously while in Metal Lords there werent all of jokes I laughed at and you could aruge that the movie kinda mocks metalheads inside of appericating them.

adoration — how would your f/o speak about you to someone else?

Xytrax is extremely matter of fact and pretty reserved about his personal life. I imagine he doesn't really offer up personal information unless it's explicitly asked about, and even then it's rare that he gets very emotional. Still, I think it would come up on occasion in his friend group. He would be a bit standoff-ish mentioning Anaïs the first few times but soon he would start telling his friends small details about the dates they go on. He doesn't gush very often, so it's honestly hard to answer this question! I think when their relationship comes up in conversation, he would say simple facts instead of gushing. “We went to pick out records.” “She bought me this shirt.” “I'm visiting her again.” etc. His friends can tell what this means.

be mine — how would they react to you flirting with them, do they get flustered? flirt back?

The first time he doesn't even pick it up. He struggles with social cues and he completely misses her intentions. I think he only catches on when he starts getting feelings himself. Xytrax gets more flustered if the flirting happens in public or around other people, but in private he will probably give a deadpan flirt in response. He's actually not bad at flirting and getting Anaïs flustered, but it's a rare occasion for him to be the one to initiate the flirting.

crush — when did your f/o realize their feelings for you? how did they deal with those feelings?

Anaïs starts visiting him regularly at the record shop he works at, she starts bringing him coffee and making up excuses as to why she needs another record this week. He starts to catch on a bit from here and the way he decides to flirt back is by visiting the place she works at and doing the same exact thing she did to him. When nothing happens next, Xytrax will straight up ask her “What do you want?” Because he feels for her but why hasn't she said anything already? Why wait for her to make a move?

confession — how’d the confession happen, and looking back on it, what are your (and f/o’s) thoughts abt how you both were back then?

Continuing from the last question, Anaïs is a bit taken aback but ultimately she has to explain to him Yes, I do like you. He's glad to hear that, but struggles with how complicated it is to understand what other people are feeling. Neither of them think much of this confession. I think Anaïs wishes it could've gone down a bit smoother but ultimately she's understanding of the entire situation. What matters is that it happened ans they can be together now.

date night — describe your ideal date with them! spare no expense, realism to the wind, what’s your dream outing?

Hmm.. maybe going to a music festival? They could do eachothers makeup, decorate his headphones, find matching band tees to wear. I know music is part of his special interest so I think he'd be really happy about it. Bonus points if his own band ends up performing at the festival as well. Other than that, I'm not sure. I think they're both content with just hanging out at home and bumming around. They don't really feel the need to go on a ton of dates, especially if they have to get all dressed up for them.

m is for memory – what is their favourite memory with their partner?

Something where Xytrax first realized this relationship was something he wanted to pursue or something that he could never lose once he got. The memory could be as simple as seeing Annie the first few times in the library, awkwardly trying to get a date while we talk between the bookshelves, or even when he introduces me to his childhood friends and bandmates. These memories are special for what they made him feel, and not necessarily what they were saying/doing.

e is for emotion – is it easy for them to express their emotions in front of their partner?

Not at all. He's quiet and stoic and he thinks very logically. Xy doesn't normally speak on behalf of the emotions he feels, and his love language tends to be through his actions. His silence has nothing to do with how strongly or not he feels about him, this is just how he is. I respect these boundaries, but check in on him to make sure he's not straining himself.

t is for time – how do they like spending time with their partner?

His favorite time spent with Annie is anything that completely clears his mind of other distractions. Because of his silence, I imagine his thoughts tend to race with the things he hasn't expressed or doesn't want to talk about. Our time spent doesn't need to be fancy. Something like a walk in the snowy forest where it feels like the two of us are the only people on the earth.

a is for affection – are they affectionate with their partner?

It honestly depends on the scenario. he prefers to display his more serious affection in private but won't shoo Annie's hand away in a crowd. PDA is fine if the time is right and it doesn't go overboard, but he can get a bit shy at times. It works out though, because I get easily embarrassed and enjoy the way he saves the heartfelt moments for private. :]

l is for love – how do they show their partner they love them? what is their love language?

His love language would be words of affirmation. He doesn't want me to baby him and tell him "good job!" on every single thing he tries, but my honest input and a compliment where it's due is very valuable to him.

h is for hugs and cuddles – how do they cuddle? what about hugs?

He's not a big spoon fan and will just lay on his back and let Annie cuddle into him by grabbing his arm or by resting his head on his chest. Mainly we like to exist side by side, and usually just hold one hand. Or if we're holding up books or something we can entangle our arms so our elbows are locked but our hands are free to turn pages and stuff.

d is for date – how was the first date? what are dates with them like?

I think the first date would be pretty casual. Maybe we get would get coffee and biscottis together. Something that doesn't take the focus off of us talking. ^_^ I can also see them going to record shops or Annie reading his tarot cards. Those would be fun and in character for the both of them.
