A beautiful trekking place around Red Earth, our Resort in Gokarna is the Yana caves. Located in the Sahyadri Range of the Western ghats in the tropical forests of the Sirsi and Kumta Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, is the serene village called Yana, which is known for the unusual karst rock formations. There are two unique rock outcrops near the village that are a tourist attraction and approachable by a small trek through of thick forests from the nearest road head.

#YANAROCKS :) A place that is quite a far cry from its neighbouring destinations. Serene, peaceful, lush, Yana offers something for everyone. People visiting Yana range from pilgrims who come here for Shiva darshan to trekkers to nature enthusiasts. Probability of one spotting a wide variety of birds is high. Yana Rocks consist of over 60 crystalline rock formations noticeable throughout, two gigantic ones among these are the main attraction and are named Bhairaveswara Shikhara and Mohini Shikhara. Bhairaveswara Shikhara has a temple within the cave at its base, that has a shiva lingam in the cave below with water dripping over it from the cave roof. Recently, Karnataka Tourism is 'developing' the area by trying to pave roads for vehicles plying directly to the base of Yana Rocks. Before this, the only option was to trek (only a short one), with two different routes. These treks are quite enjoyable with picturesque surroundings and sounds filled with bird calls, water running as streams and falls. If you choose to visit Yana, also do visit Vibuthi falls / Vaddu falls. Yana has a legendary story to itself in mythology. Bhasmasura , a demon king, obtained a boon from Lord Shiva. The boon being, anything / anyone that Bhasmasura places his hand on would turn to ashes. Having received such a boon, he wanted to test the same on Lord Shiva himself , who had granted the boon. Lord Shiva trying to evade Bhasmasura, reached out for Lord Vishnu’s help. Lord Vishnu, in Mohini’s form, tricked Bhasmasura to place his hand in his own head while dancing , turning him to ashes. The act generated such heat that nearby rocks all turned black. You know a place is as good as it is mystic when such legends exist about them. Yana caves, Gokarna

Yana is a village located in forests of the Kumta, Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, India which is known for the unusual karst rock formations. It is located in the Sahyadri mountain range of the Western Ghats, about 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Karwar port, 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Sirsi, and 31 kilometres (19 mi) from Kumta. Yana is one of the wettest villages in the world and it is cleanest village in Karnataka and second cleanest village in India.
