The Pre-Firestar super editions are always going to be my favorite Warriors books and I don’t even care how dumb they get or that they fuck up characterization sometimes because they’re so much more about clan life. I understand that you need big changes and high stakes to make exciting story but I get so sick of changing up the books status quo or world rules all the time. I feel like TNP-Onward we’re constantly changing something big or laying the groundwork for it and when they’re not doing that they just kinda wait around and that time could be so much better used.

Plots that focus on one character and their place in their clan, their destinies, and their singular, personal arc stick with me so much better than cats or plots that change the world. Seeing how a clan functions, how different cats relate to each other and getting to spend time knowing side characters as individuals is really interesting and they never take the time to do that in the main series.

EXAMPLE Yellowfangs secret isn’t the best book ever but it’s a great look into Shadowclan and it makes all of those cats into real characters, not 2D Evil Guys. PLUS Brokenstar is a much more interesting villain and his crimes hit much harder when you can put names and identities to his victims AND supporters (which I think makes him and Tigerstar more interesting than like, Mudclaw. We never spend time with Webfoot so who cares that he likes Mudclaw. but we SEE that Longtail and Darkstripe are valued and respected, and hold values that drive their choices which fleshes out Tigerstar as a villain)

Idk I’d just love more page time exploring what we already have and know about the clans because it’s so full of potential but from what I can glean about the past couple years of books I am not getting that

Design notes:

Long, “emo bangs” but like… beard. Emo bangs beard, but slightly to the left… I’m not entirely sure how to describe them but they’re Very important to his design.

Markings are all very sharp, very jagged, very uneven. Especially on the forepaws; left forepaws marks are very “broken”. Paler marks are all very rough around the edges. Heart-shaped mark on the forehead is chipped around the edges beneath the brows. Tail-tip, belly fur, eye marks and muzzle are also very jagged.

tORTOISESHELL!!!!1!!!! Ginger markings to read as a red herring to the fire prophecy… I know that isn’t canon but I personally think it’d be really cool.

Doesn’t sport very many scars. Primarily they’re located at his face (lip, nose, shredded ears) and right shoulder. His bent tail technically falls into that category as well, I guess?? Permanently bent, possibly the back half of the bones in his tail are underdeveloped.

Inherited some “point” markings from Yellowfang, mostly in his legs… plus a bonus Easter egg in his hind legs from my Dreamtongue design for anyone paying attention ;)

LGBT+ headcanon: Trans man (tortoiseshell) who uses he/it pronouns, and is torensexual.

I swear I'll make an essay about this someday but Mapleshade's vengeance is basically a story on how the clan structure systematically fucks over and causes problems for the cats, with the way it is currently. I'm not a Mapleshade apologist btw, she still murdered people, but just think about the fact that irl available mental health care and other beneficial economic factors influence crime rates.

Also for another example of a story like this (Cat gets fucked over by the clan system) is the entirety of Leafpool's character. I'm not even a fan of her but I'm so passionate about her story conceptually. Oh and also Yellowfang. Also HMMM most of the examples here are mollies HMMMMM
