"Hello," Bruce says as he reaches the new guy. Said new guy startles, almost comically so, spilling his drink on his shirt and Bruce's jacket. "Goodness," the guy says. A barely discernible drawl hides between his words, and his voice is warm. "I'm so very sorry."

2. TRY

The cold chill in the air wakes her, Bruce can hear it—the slight rustle of the blankets as she moves, maybe trying to reach out to him, then even more rustling when she realises he's not there and props herself up to look around. If she notices him standing still in the darkness, she doesn't say anything.

3. STILL

He’s been on the receiving end of that look too many times not to know it by heart. Usually as a kid. The fact that it still works on him is concerning.

4. PART

Dick slides into the armchair with a groan that is equal parts relief and frustration. He covers his face in his hands and just stays like that for a while, trying desperately to decide whether or not to replay all his memories of the evening or tuck them in the same small box he puts things in to repress them, and then shove them into the farthest corner of his mind.

5. HOME

“Come on. Let’s go home.” Home, Dick thinks. Shit, I’m so fucked.
