Thoughts about Hamilton Hamburg (in no specific order)

I saw Hamilton in Hamburg and I have SO MANY THOUGHTS

First of all if you aren’t aware, The Hamburg performance is in German, and the show opened this Thursday (the first week of October)

my German level is very low… so if you’ve seen it or have thoughts about the lyrics I want to HEAR

But there were some things that I noticed with this cast that have me vibrating at a frequency that could shatter glass:

First off the cast was incredible and now I need a cast recording or I will explode I need it NOW they are my new favorite cast I’m screaming and crying and throwing up

Hamiltons actor (Benet) is very goofy and young and makes for a GREAT act 1 Hamilton. (Act 2 as well, but his personality, look, and voice were particularly amazing for younger Alex)

He was also very sweet, I told him I was from the US and he got super excited, even asked ME for a picture on HIS phone before proceeding to introduce me to Lafayette/Jefferson’s actor and telling him I’m American

Laf/Jefferson's actor was also very enthusiastic and wanted to give me a hug :3

I was watching a video like a month ago and they were talking about J.K. Rowling not wanting dudes in dresses in female spaces. Then I followed that video shortly with one about gym hoes trying to film guys and alleging that they were being creepy towards them. And while watching the second video, I realized women (some, not all) are very hypocritical. Like, yeah, I want my safe spaces where I won't be raped in a bathroom stall by someone who has no right to be there to begin with, but I also want to be able to go everywhere I want within society. After all, I'm not like those gym hoes. I'm not going to wrongfully accuse a man of sexual harassment. But I'm also, woefully, not every woman, and it is not, in fact, all in me.

But a lot of communal spaces nowadays used to be male only spaces. Hell, in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, both in America and the UK, there used to be clearly defined men's establishments and women's establishments. Women would have tea rooms and men would have gentleman's clubs, which did not always have glorified strippers serving them cigars and whiskey in skimpy little outfits.

It should be mentioned that YMCA, for example, stands for Young Men's Christian Association. From Wikipedia, "The Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) was founded on 6 June 1844, by George Williams and eleven friends. Williams was a London draper who was typical of the young men drawn to the cities by the Industrial Revolution. They were concerned about the lack of healthy activities for young men in major cities; the options available were usually taverns and brothels. Williams' idea grew out of meetings he held for prayer and Bible-reading among his fellow workers in a business in the city of London..."

Gender discrimination at YMCA's was outright banned in the 1970's, but women had been given their own health and fitness spaces starting in 1858. Note: their own. Not impeding on men's spaces, but given their own.

I saw someone online some time ago bitching about a local female only gym that popped up in their town, coming at it from the brand of men's rights activism that almost gets close to saying something true but still manages to swerve and miss the mark entirely. Like, "why do women need their own spaces, what's wrong with just coexisting and working out together?" My man, women accuse men of being creepy, and men just want to work out and go home without being accused of sexual harassment, or worse, being sexually harassed themselves!

It's not that hard of a concept, nor a new or controversial one that there should be different areas for the sexes. We were able to do it before, why can't we go back to that?

Coach Imran Haque entered the WHL in 2003 as an idealistic sophomore EECS major at UC Berkeley. 20 long years later, a lot has changed, including his team name about 500 times. Coach Haque now finds himself a grizzled father of two living deep in Mormon country.

One thing that hadn't changed, his Ricky Bowl appearances, which continued to stubbornly stay at 0… until this week. Entering this season, coach Haque's best finish was 3rd, way back in 2008. Knowing that he may not get another shot at hoisting the Ricky until he's nearing retirement, coach Haque knows he needs to seize this opportunity.

On the opposite sideline, stands coach Zand, in the Ricky Bowl for the second time after a close loss to the Kak Fighting Ring in 2015. Zand has used his hand to set stellar lineups throughout the year, but with the Ricky so tantalizingly close, coach Zand has been plagued by indecision.

He has yet to announce a starter between Jared Goff and Derek Carr, and is also considering making a change on defense to the scorching hot Raiders.

QB Patrick Mahomes has been one of the few constants for the Tricks&Hoes, but maybe that shouldn't be the case? Over the last 4 weeks, Mahomes ranks 19th(!) among all QBs in points per game, well below both of coach Zand's potential starters. Though he's still projected for 19 points this week, Mahomes hasn't even reached his projection since week 7. And while Goff has been inconsistent for Use Your Hand, the potential benefits of a stack with St. Brown make him the logical starter for coach Zand. EDGE: Use Your Hand

Both RB rooms have been plagued by injuries, but Use Your Hand's early season acquisition of Kyren Williams has been a godsend, as he has turned into a bonafide fantasy star. Coach Haque meanwhile overcame season-ending injuries to Nick Chubb and J.K. Dobbins with incredible late-round draft picks of Chuba Hubbard and De'Von Achane in the 11th and 12th rounds. And flipping Achane for Christian McCaffrey stands as the move of the season, propelling his team from a borderline playoff team into a title contender. “In 1868, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that “it” was on the rampage. The New York Tribune, in the same year, noted that “in Youngstown, Canton, Warren, Tiffin, Mansfield, Akron and Elyria there is a perfect craze over it.” This item of craze was a small, heart-shaped piece of wood with tiny wheels and a pencil set through the center. When placed on a sheet of paper, the piece would, if not moody, answer some questions. What better question than one about hidden treasures?"

"The planchette was an early version of the Ouija Board. Originating in the Victorian era during the Spiritualism movement, the board was believed to be able to answer questions from and communicate with the dead. The device was popular among those who wished to explore the religion but for the most part was disregarded as a powerless oddity. However, in 1867, a six-page article ran in an English newspaper about the power of the planchette. The author attested to the miraculous capabilities of the plank and how his life was better because he listened to its instructions. American papers picked the story up, and within weeks, the planchette was in high demand by the public.

In 1868, the item could be found just about everywhere. People often hosted planchette parties, as the plank generally needed three people to play. Two would sit at the table and hold the board, while one sat across the room and asked the questions.

Eventually, the device found its way to a tiny island in Lake Erie—Kelley’s Island. In her book Kelley’s Island 1866–1871: The Lodge, Suffrage & Baseball, Leslie Korenco writes, “One can assume that most everyone tried it at one time.” George Bristol, after ten days of sawing wood, tying up grapes and hoeing potatoes, wrote that on January 18 he “worked at Planchette in afternoon.” The planchette was a source of entertainment and intrigue for islanders.

However, two young men took their messages from the spirits quite seriously. Apparently, the planchette told the two friends that treasure was to be had on their island. This treasure could be found with the body of an Indian chief buried under limestone on a little mountain. He supposedly had $18,000 worth of loot in his grave.

The spirit was very specific and told the men that they must not use dynamite. Therefore, when the men located what they assumed was the little mountain, they set to the tedious task of chipping away at the limestone. The men worked a schedule of 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and then 2:00 p.m. to

7:00 p.m. After about a month, they had burrowed a hole twelve feet deep and eight feet square. Continuing for three months, the men were relentless in their search. Sadly, however, the partners could not find the treasure and eventually called it quits.

Meanwhile, Christians in America were protesting the use of the board. The Catholic Church “denounced the item as a diabolical invention.” The church also threatened to excommunicate any members found toying with the object. As the Spiritualism movement faded out and the Christian churches preached against it, the planchette faded from popularity by the 1870s. Later, the new planchette, originating in Ohio, would bring the spirit board back into the spotlight.

As for the treasure of Kelley’s Island, it was never found, but not from lack of trying.”
