hey! i was just re reading YSSMIAC as its been about a year since it originally ended (which i cant believe) and i wanted to ask how much time you think you spent writing it/planning it. It is really an amazing work and i cant even imagine doing something like that and i wanna try and get like the basic concept of the process :)

Did not realise it's been a year I hate the passage of time. But I hope you know how much writers appreciate people commenting about their re-readings :)

The writing process for YSSMIAC was a huge mess if I'm being accurate. I had an idea at like midnight, wrote bullet points for vague things I wanted and probably some dialogue and split it into 5 short chapters. And told myself I wouldn't write it. Then a few weeks later I wrote some more for it and decided I would actually write the full thing. After posting maybe the first chapter, I added a few scenes for after Catra goes to Bright Moon as an epilogue thing which got it to about seven chapters. (All these scenes ended up being in the actual story.)

After getting past the initial plan it kept getting longer. I had the 'what I want to happen' markers and filled everything in around them and underestimated me being myself and the amount of detail I wanted. A few weeks (maybe a month or two) in I planned out the full story which had about twenty chapters I think. I tried to go for a chapter a week and could do that for the about 5000 word chapters when I had the 'oo new project' motivation at the beginning. I just kept going from that point, adding new chapters for the ideas I had and breaking them up when they got too long or disjointed. There was never a full 'planning phase', just whenever I sat down and thought about things.

The full fic with all it's side stories took about 10/11 months fuelled by the show's finale and catradora going canon. If I started writing it now I think it would've taken me a lot longer.

It truly feels like the end of an era. I'm definitely not ready to say goodbye but also happy that I was there to witness & experience these brilliant performers. I'm going back to the 1st show after cast change & cannot wait to see what the next batch of cast members have in store.

TBC 30 day challenge

Day 27: the most special visit to the city for you

This is another really tough one, because every visit was wonderfully special for its own reasons.

The show where I did my first ever loop with Pin Chieh’s Kampe and then looped Kronos and got his 1:1, that was very special! It was my first 2 show day (and my first 3 show weekend!) and my first time meeting people from the Discord server, and I couldn’t have asked for a better atmosphere and better companions for it all.

The show where I first looped Artemis, Apollo and Iphigenia, complete with Iphi’s 1:1 to top it all off, that was very special! I was in the midst of unemployment and the January blues, but these three masters of their craft stole me away for three hours and made me forget that I had ever existed elsewhere.

My birthday show, spent with Neoptolemus, Zagreus, Hades, Laocoön and Askalaphos, complete with my first TBC 1:1 with Skally, that was very special! My first ever 1:1 had come at possibly the lowest point in my life, and reminded me that I deserved to be noticed, and loved, and chosen by those who ought to value me. Years later to have this 1:1 remind me all over again of how it feels to be truly seen, truly chosen, was the best birthday gift of all.

But the show that meant the most to me was, I think, my final show. A goodbye loop with Milton’s Kronos, just as tense and captivating as ever, and a goodbye loop with Pin Chieh Kampe, which might be the most fun I’ve ever had in the show (or possibly even outside the show). It was as though Pin Chieh knew it was my last show, and she went above and beyond to make me feel included. It was joyous, from the secret grin we shared behind the Klub bar, to the dance she led her newly initiated snake cult in, her stunning performances in YSSMIAC and Liquid Smoke, and even the 5:1, for which she fished me out of the crowd and ushered me in so carefully, before she chose anyone else. It was the perfect goodbye to the show and the character, and I am forever grateful that I was able to experience her phenomenal portrayal that one more time.

My favorite -- by far -- "what if" alternate timeline AU for Catradora has been completed! I really recommend it.

Two events are changed at the end of S4: Catra kills Hordak, and Horde Prime's arrival on Etheria is delayed. This is used as a springboard for Catra and Adora meeting when Catra is demolished, at her very lowest point; the trail they take after that is worthy of a novel -- and that novel is You Should See Me In A Crown.

16. Do you re-read old fics? Is there a time in your writing you won’t go back to?

Yes. Constantly. Finished a YSSMIAC re-read recently. I read 'Deception and Expectations' pretty often for the fluffy drama of it all. I'm thinking of going back through 'Promises, Promises' but I always do major edits because of how my views on things have developed since I wrote it. I re-read the KE AU very often to make sure the character work makes narrative sense if I haven't worked on it for while and end up reading chapters of it.

I wrote all my fics for me so I guess it makes sense, but I do waste a lot of would-be writing time reading stuff I've already completed. A lot of the time I end up making notes for fics I've finished just case I want to write more for them. Which would be fine except for the sheer amount of unwritten fic ideas I have.
