online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.

and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.

there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.

i hope you're all okay out there. i hope the sun is shining on your face and you are breathing deeply. i miss you.

AU where marriage is like a soul-exchange sort of thing. I mean, who else would you want to keep your very essence and guard it with their everything??? And in return you do the same??? But your chosen spouse?

But yeah, this opens up some ideas for that yearning angst. The bone deep want that both Husk and Angel would have, but could never fulfil, because their souls aren't thiers. Regret burning in them at the fact their vices lead them down their paths in This Order. Why could they have not met before they lost everything? Why did it all have to happen this way? And not the other way around?

Maybe they wouldn't have worked, if that were the case. They're losers, after all. They work because they know more than anyone else how well and truly Fucked they actually are in the grand scheme of things. They know the ache, that twisting, writhing thing they both have burning holes in them that is never satisfied, never content, never still

But they propose anyway. It's either one of those cute, messy affairs where one of them drops to their knee and when the other catches on they start cry-laughing before dropping down with thier own ring box in hand OR

I imagine Husk takes the leap. I feel like he would just... want that with Angel. Yaknow? Even if it's only them who know. Even if it's just ceremonial. Even if it's just an inside joke--

He proposes with a modest princess cut stone set in gold. It's the same shade of champagne Angel's cheeks turn when he laughs. Like, really laughs. And the inscription inside reads something like 'Your Forever Loser' or some other poetic shit

Angel hadn't even considered it as an option. Not for him. People like him don't get to have that happy ending. They don't get the picket fence and the doting husband. They don't get that kind of stability, or contentment, or any kind of feeling of fucking safety.

But

But him and Whiskers...

They're doing it. Or something like it, at least. They're safe with eachother. They keep eachother grounded. Sane. When the nights are long and the chains are cripplingly heavy they know they can fall into one another and just be. Just for a little while.
