The long, LONG delayed final image in my “OCs & Inspirations” series, at least for now. This was originally intended to be part of a bunch of pics commemorating Disney’s 100th Anniversary, but the artist was facing some difficulties, so it took much longer than expected. I don’t mind in the least, however, because this was more than worth the wait…and hey, Valentine’s Day may not be the most obvious holiday of choice to release this, but a holiday is still a holiday. And with these two, it felt right to post their pic on such an occasion. Oh, on that note, before I go on: the image was made by @hooter-n-company, who also did my image for Nakoda and Kaa for the series a while back. I can’t honestly decide which of them I like more, between this image and that one; they’re both absolutely breathtaking. Her work always is. Thank you, Hoots. <3 ANYWAY…Reno was the first character I specifically created as a sort of “correction” to an old pred crush of mine. Nako and Billy being more “appealing” versions of their source inspirations (for me) was just sort of a welcome bonus. But with Reno, I deliberately created him with the idea of taking a character I used to have an interest in “that way,” but no longer do, and then creating someone I could “kinkify” more easily via the power of Twisted Wonderland’s universe. When I was a kid, I used to have a bit of a crush on Oogie Boogie from “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” I even had some rather…VIVID dreams, involving this big bag of bugs, which I shall always remember. However, over time, my interests and ideals with such things changed, and as they did, my love for Oogie dwindled. Reno was my way of trying to do something more “me” with the character.

The name “Reno” comes from Reno, Nevada. It was suggested by my friend, @belliesandburps. Since Reno is just a big a gambler as Oogie, it seemed fitting to use the name of a city known for gambling - and in the same state as arguably the gambler paradise of the world, Las Vegas - for his name. “Rovar” comes from a Hungarian word meaning “insect,” which of course fit perfectly. Combined, the two have a similar sort of “bounce” and syllabic structur to “Oogie Boogie,” and the alliteration was amusing to me. In terms of personality, Reno, in a way, is Oogie…but with a sort of soft side. Like, his source material, he is crass, crude, loud, rowdy, mischievous, a bit sadistic, and constantly thinks with his stomach. HOWEVER, for all his jagged edges, Reno isn’t someone who does bad things just for the sheer sake of it, unlike Oogie. Reno still has the capacity to care about people, and even some of the more “evil” things he’s done were usually out of a sort of bitter desire to get back at people he felt were more fortunate, while also helping himself and those he cared about in the process. He’s not the easiest person to get along with, but he’s not a literal monster.

I decided to sort of reverse things in terms of the way Oogie’s true self is revealed in the film, for Reno. In the movie, Oogie glows green in blacklight, but his actual appearance is a much duller beige hue. And of course, when you strip away the bag, he’s a collection of creepy crawlies underneath. So, with Reno, his human form has dull colors, with a sweater that resembles Oogie’s burlap, but his true form - a sort of “demi bug” - is colored in shades of vibrant green. His Overblot form, meanwhile - which Hoots helped IMMENSELY with working out - has a sort of neon appearance, inspired by the look of Oogie’s lair, and is a collection of different elements from different arthropods.

In this case, I think the different colors help the pair stand in good contrast to each other. ;)

Oh! Interesting question and to be honest I'd have to pull up a 99+ slide because I love them so much- but to sorta squeeze in all my thoughts ><!

Interestingly enough, I didn't exactly ship anyone nor was I drawn to any of the pairs in Haikyu after watching Season 1 up to Season 4 Part 1 (second half with the Inarizaki match was not airing/ hadn't been announced yet even during this time). I acknowledged a lot that the ships existed like kagehina, iwaoi, etc but it was more of "yep I see them as a duo both romantically or platonically, and I'm okie with both or either" + liked fanart and bokuaka was given that same perspective from me before. They had a cute and funny dynamic but granted, I didn't perceive them to be a ship that I would make as my favorite and just casually acknowledge the ship's existence + appreciate the fanart.

However, that changed when I read the manga.

A good number of people loved and shipped bokuaka wholeheartedly from the start while some after reading the manga and I was one of the those people because WOW DID THE FUKURODANI VS. MUJINAZAKA CHANGE THE TRAJECTORY OF MY LIFE-

Much like some bokuaka shippers, this segment of the Nationals arc definitely either fueled their love for this dynamic or help them appreciate and be endeared even by this ship, most especially me.

On a more personal note, the one that really started it all, gave me a little push into loving them dearly when I was already at the tipping point was a certain piece of fanart.

Out of all the wholesome, genuinely lovely art I've seen, this has always been my favorite bokuaka art and the one that help started it all, made by the amazing @/pistachiolan <33.

Neither of them are speaking nor can you see the expression on their faces, but it's a beautiful summary of Bokuaka's dynamic.

And that's the thing, the reason why I was drawn so much to Bokuaka is because:

They're not childhood friends like Iwaizumi and Oikawa or Kenma and Kuroo.

They're not even in the same year level like Hinata and Kageyama or Ushiwaka and Tendou.

Yet, they have a bond that is built on so much trust, support and care for each other in such a short span of time. Almost like they've been there for each other for a lifetime.

It's not a one sided dynamic where one constantly gives and the other gets and doesn't return becase Akaashi gave Bokuto everything he needed so that his star could shine for the world to see (him and Fukurodani gave him the company Bokuto never particularly had) in the same sense that Bokuto didn't want to shine alone or be left in an empty galaxy, he wanted Akaashi to shine just as much whether they were or weren't teammates anymore and gave him words such as "giving 120%" and a generally more positive mindset that outbests any logic Akaashi could have put down ("It's not impossible, just very hard!"), that became something Akaashi carried with him and even became a driving force for his profession as Udai's manga editor.

And seeing them in the timeskip, those happy smiles Akaashi gives to Bokuto when he sees how brightly Bokuto shines on the court, the excitement Bokuto has when he sees Akaashi shining just as much in his own profession when he gets to talk to them after the Jackals Adlers match and how immediately he asks to spend time with him, their same silly odd language that no one can understand but them and how they've seemingly never changed.

To see that bond full of trust, support and care never once waver throughout the years, you can't help but ask: what isn't there to love about Bokuaka?

Happy Halloween, everybody! I have a treat for you all: this is the first of five images I got from various artists, for a series I simply like to call “OCs and Inspirations.” In honor of Disney’s 100th Anniversary, I decided to get some images of some of my major OCs for Twisted Wonderland - the first five introduced in stories - posing with their source inspirations. This first one is made by @hooter-n-company, and shows the first boi I ever made: Nakoda “Nako” Spivak, based on Kaa from Disney’s Jungle Book.

Nakoda was not meant to be a major character when I created him, but in the course of writing his introductory piece, “Snake-Like,” I fell in love with what I had created. So, part of the way through, I decided to have him become a student at Night Raven College, and thus allow him the opportunity for more adventures later down the line. He has since become one of my most popular OCs for this universe, even though he honestly hasn’t shown up in THAT many stories yet. I think part of the reason for this IS his inspiration from Kaa, since Kaa has become such an iconic character, ESPECIALLY within this particular “kinkdom.” That was part of what I love(d) about Nakoda: he’s a character who allows me to play with Kaa’s tropes and traits - Kaa HIMSELF being a rather overused and slightly overrated figure, in my personal opinion - while putting my own spin on things.

Like Kaa, Nakoda is insatiable in every sense of the word: about the only thing harder to satisfy than his hunger is his seemingly limitless “thirst.” This was meant to be a sort of in-joke for me on how over-sexualized Kaa himself has become in a LOT of places, but it actually works pretty well for Nakoda on a lot of levels, which is why I’ve kept it: for example, I recently was reminded that, in the original Kipling stories, it’s indicated Kaa has had many mates over the years, so even though we can presume the Disney version (being a VERY different character) is not the same, there’s no reason my guy can’t be. Ha Ha.

On a deeper level, what Nakoda takes from Kaa is what I like to describe as “directionless control.” Both are characters who seek to control other beings, and enjoy the power they have over their prey, toying with their “playthings” before consuming them. Both enjoy the sensation of being in control of their own little world. HOWEVER, in Kaa’s case, there is no greater cause behind all this: he is ruthless and ambitionless in what he does, recognizing no friends, and with seemingly no other desire than to fill his belly and enjoy everything that comes with that. Nakoda’s great issue is that he’s someone who very much lives in the moment; he doesn’t really know what he wants in life, nor how to achieve it: just this vague, nebulous concept of having control and gaining respect and recognition. He, himself, isn’t sure what to do with himself or his gifts.

Off the topic of the character, I just want to say this artwork is absolutely freaking spellbinding. Kaa looks magnificent, and Nakoda…I could comment on a LOT of things in the image that make it so great, but…can we just take some time to appreciate how positively THICC and STACKED this gluttonous hedonist is here? I never want to see Nako with curves ANY smaller than this EVER again, good Lord, they take one’s breath away…possibly literally, if he gets those pythons around somebody. He won’t even NEED the coils of his naga form then. >////>

If bokuaka went on a date to one of these following places, where would the most chaos be caused?:

-An exotic animal petting zoo (eg ostriches and crocodiles)

-A waterpark that's only open from 10pm to four am

-a restaurant that is slightly too posh to behave at because everyone sounds really funny

Anon, may I just tell you how galaxy your brain is because all of these are so good and a perfect avenue for bokuaka to ensue chaos xD!

However, allow me to do you one better, they do all three of these in a single day (or two since the waterpark opens till 4 am)

It goes like this: exotic animal petting zoo, the restaurant for dinner and cap it off with the waterpark.

The first stop is the zoo and not even a moment in, Bokuto got all of the tour guide maps EXCEPT for the one they actually need and can read which is in Japanese. Akaashi admittedly had a bit of an itinerary, in his mind at least, however whatever plans he had are very much trampled by the way Bokuto just runs across the zoo and the "chase after Bokuto" Olympics has begun.

The two of them decide to go to the tiger section for now. Akaashi has to reprimand Bokuto from trying to reach out his bare arm towards the tigers because Fukurodani certainly still needs their fully functional spiker in one piece. For the sillies, Bokuto snaps a picture with the tiger, sends it to Kuroo with the caption "Nekoma could never :P", get it? Cause tigers are also cat-

They go to visit the other animals and though Bokuto had stopped trying to reach out his arm, there comes another hurdle, him attempting to feed the animals. Akaashi throws deadpan comment after another telling Bokuto clearly not to feed the animals to which:

"But Akaashi! Look at these alpacas, they're so cute, how can you not want to give them food?!"

There are certain animals to which are allowed to be fed fortunately, Bokuto takes Akaashi's hands that have food and lead them to the animals, swearing it was his lucky day when he saw a glimpse of Akaashi's fond smile as he fed said animals.

If you think going around the areas with the animals was chaotic, no, for the #1 enemy is actually the gift shop. Without a doubt, Bokuto is already scanning through the various knick knacks and goodies the store has to offer. He's in a genuine problem in choosing what item to purchase until Akaashi walks up to him, holding a pair of keychains with animal puns on it and simply says:

"For us, so that we can match."

Bokuto has never ran faster to the cash register.

The last animal was the one that they had been looking forward to the most: owls. Much to Akaashi surprise, Bokuto was afraid to reach out and give them a pat on the head.

"What if it doesn't like me Akaashi? Does that mean I'm going to get kicked out by the scho-"

"Bokuto-san, being rejected by an owl isn't going to get you kicked out." Though amidst his attempts to lighten Bokuto's mood, he can sense in the very least Bokuto didn't want to sully his first interaction with an owl so Akaashi ever so gently takes Bokuto's hands in his own and together they reach for the owl. It tilts it's head for a moment before gently bumping against Bokuto's hand.

Bokuto let's out a big :D face to Akaashi to which Akaashi gives a silent thumbs up in response.

At the end of their first location for their date, Akaashi had to stop Bokuto from attempting to steal a bunny from the zoo (although in the very least he will admit it was cute-)

"AGHASHEEE!!! That was so much fun! The owl liked me right? It kept nudging it's cute little head on my hand." Bokuto exclaims as they take a moment to sit and unwind on a bench nearby.

"It seemed rather fond of you Bokuto-san."

"Right?! I got to meet an owl for the first time, I'm just glad none of the animals hated me-"

"Whose to say some staff members at the zoo won't hate you after you attempted to enter the gate with all the lions-"

"Akaashi! I just wanted to see if the Lion King was real."

To his side Bokuto had never grown fonder to hear the gentle bubbles of laughter spilling from Akaashi's lips.

"Well, admittedly, I'm not surprised that all the animals took a liking to you."

"Hm? Why is that?"

Slowly but surely, Bokuto can feel a blanket of warmth hug one of his hands. The next moment he peers down to see it's intertwined with Akaashi's own. Another moment, Akaashi's head leans against Bokuto's shoulder and there is so much warmth. However, the words that left Akaashi's lips couldn't be impossibly warmer:

"Because Bokuto-san is a very easy person to love."

So driven by my obsession with the new Gloryhammer album, I decided to buy a silver necklace and silver letters to form HOOTS. But since something always has to fuck up, after aggressively threading HOO on the chain, at some point I accidentally destroyed the letter T. Of course there is still the letter S, but I think I'll stop at HOO so
