Anti’s coming into the Gwyneth Berdara tag and accusing Gwynriel’s of the mischaracterization of Gwyn or only liking Gwyn because of Gwynriel is fucking LAUGHABLE.
All I've seen are posts singing praises about Gwyn (just Gwyn!) and I have NOT ONCE seen a Gwynriel shipper characterize Gwyn wrongly.
What are we mischaracterizing her for?
Being brave as fuck for choosing to train to be a Valkyrie? Nesta’s admiration and fondness of her? For saying she’s resilient for being able to enjoy herself and laugh with her friends after experiencing some fucked up shit? THAT SHE'S LIKABLE?? Being strategic and patient FOR DAYS and spying on the Illaryian males before sending the beasts after them ruthlessly? Being smart and witty? Her interests in sex and smut and stating she doesn’t want to be coddled? Her willingness to sacrifice herself on the bridge? Her determination to finish the blood rite even though she was injured as fuck? Her unwavering loyalty toward Nesta and Emerie? That Nesta thinks her beauty is comparable to Mor and Merrill?
The fact that she’s not judgemental and she immediately accepted Nesta when they were sharing their stories? Her own struggle with guilt and self hate? Her immediately witnessing what Azriel is capable of when they first met? Azriel’s shadows reacting POSITIVELY towards her and yeah, the thought of her joy glowing in his chest? That she teases him and challenges him? That she hasn't seen him torture someone yet but she's seen worse shit soooo why would she be fazed??
She's canonly more suitable for Azriel than anybody else in the series and THAT'S why people dislike her as a character even though on her own she's a great character.
Those are only SOME of her positives we got in ONE book. Notice, some of those positives include Azriel, but most don’t 🤷🏻‍♀️.
Allllllll of those points have textual evidence to support them. And these are allllllll the points Gwynriel shippers love to make about her.
The only charactization of her anti’s will accept is if she goes back to the library, stays there and is never seen or heard of in canon again. Or if she’s evil which she’s likely not going to be. Stop being so petty. If anything SJM has her set up for a HEALING journey.
However some people obviously like to see a female character STAY broken and let her trauma define her.
Getting mad when she's so obviously such a fun character? She has fun and laughs and teases her friends and Cassian and Azriel and enjoys herself but there's something wrong with that and you think its annoying????
Fanon Gwyn and Canon Gwyn are basically the same. If you don’t like fanon Gwyn, you probably don’t like canon Gwyn and that’s fine, whatever, I think you have totally shit taste but whatever just STAY OUT OF THE GWYNETH BERDARA TAG.
I see the shit ya'll tag and then delete.
I’m a Gwyn stan first and foremost but I have not seen one single other Gwynriel shipper mischaracterize her.
Fanon is fun until it melts your brain and you start believing ONLY fanon and wrongly remembering canon and then attacking others for using canon to support their points.
It’s crazy to me that anti’s can dislike a fictional character so much that the idea of potentially seeing more of said character in the canon universe and getting more fandom love honestly upsets them.
Like holy shit, I don’t like E/riel, but I have enough tact not to take that out on either Elain OR Azriel. And I don’t go looking to start shit with shippers because I'm not pathetic. Too bad some people can’t extend that same class to Gwyn.
Also, I feel like some people forget about this fucking scene.
Gwyn studied Ramiel's craggy, unforgiving slope. Not much snow graced its sides. Like the wind had whipped it all away. Or the storms had avoided its peak entirely. “Is it living, though? To take the safe road?”
“You’re the one who's been living in a library for two years,” Emerie said.
Gwyn didn't flinch. “I have. And I am tired of it.” She surveyed the blood-soaked leather along her thigh. “I don't want to take the safe road.” She pointed to the mountain, to the slender path upward. “I want to take that road.” Her voice thickened. “I want to take the road that no one dares travel, and I want to travel it with you two. No matter what may befall us. Not as Illyrians, not for their titles, but as something new. To prove to them, to everyone, that something new and different might triumph over their rules and restrictions.”
A cold wind blew off Ramiel's sides.
Whispering, murmuring.
“They call this climb the Breaking for a reason,”Emerie countered gravely.
Nesta added, “Wehaven't eaten in days. We're down to the last of our water. To climb that mountain-“
“I have been broken once before,” Gwyn said, her voice clear. “I survived it. And I will not be broken again- not even by this mountain.”
Look at me and tell me this is a character we’ll never hear from again. Go right a fucking head.
You can't come into the Gwyneth Berdara tag claiming we mischaracterize her. We take her as is. No need to pick her apart or give her little unnecessary traits to fit her better with any one.
It's not possible to make her out to be something she's not when every little thing we love about her is canon.
You can be salty over us comparing Bryce/Hunt and Azriel/Gwyn but oh wait! SJM uses similar language to describe them ON PURPOSE in canon as fucking well!!!
On purpose.
In fucking canon.
But we’re reaching.
Do not come into the Gwyneth Berdara tag and say Gwynriel’s make it hard to like her but oh, you do like her you do! And then go on to say she’s nothing more special than a Valkyrie or Nesta’s friend. Yeah, I fucking saw that shit.
People are weirdly jealous over a ship/inspiring character a lot of people relate to.
Gwyn is not stealing Azriel from any one because there’s NO ONE to steal him from.
These character's are fake but the hate and vitriol ya'll are spewing at people who like her are very real.
Just stay out of the Gwyneth Berdara tag if you don't like her.

To explain the problem with how the Atsv fandom deals with Hobie a lot and sometimes with Gwen too............Hobie and Gwen have certain expectations put on them as a slightly older black character and a female character who's the male mc's love interest.Hobie is expected to be overtly sexual and uncommited to his partners('I hate labels' was him being nonbinary,please be fucking serious)and have a huge mean edge to him or either a caretaker to the Spiderband with no personality and stories of his own and Gwen is expected to be a 'normal' straight girlfriend-Hence all the emphasis put on her being a girl and Miles a boy even when it dosen't fit-including the toxicity frequent in white ones with black boyfriends specifically(that's what 'snowbunny' means btw)and her experiences as a friendless abuse victim who's trans and was kicked out by her cop dad for doing activism isn't something that you can ignore,because GWEN can't ignore it either and neither can Hobie with his own lived antiblackness and adultification that are inherently intertwined with eachother
Gwen wasn't written to be a stereotypical hashtag quirky cis white girl with no real problems besides wanting the guy to like her back,Gwen was CANONICALLY written as a usual TRANS girl and those are absolutely different because i known both closely and she reminds me infinitely more of tgirls who're pastel softgirls for gender validation instead of white woman fragility and the only reason her and Margo weren't a trio with Hobie pre-Miles is the same reason Peter B didn't come with Gwen to visit Miles and it's that writers wanted to isolate them from eachother to emphasize Ghostflower as if they didn't pull it off just fine in the first movie and when the only weak points in the second one are FROM them doing that and if you think about it for 5 seconds you'd realize that Margo and her have every reason to love eachother so much and hang out.And Hobie has plenty of interesting traits and potential even without his comics lore and he never shows interest in sex-Rightfully so,because this is a fucking children's franchise!!!-and any 'vibes' adult Hobie bullshitters got was them being creeps who can't turn off horny mode and you can just say you don't ship Ghostpunk and Punkflower instead of making a fool of yourself by denying how much mutual romantic interest and chemistry Hobie has with Gwen and Miles
And y'all WILDIN' if you actually think Hobie's Team Dad status to the Spiderband is something that takes zero toll on him but i know for a fact it eventually does and he tries to hide it because he feels guilty but they find out and let him breakdown and take care of him too starting from then on because he's not their ACTUAL Dad,he's a 17 year old and he's their best friend and that's what best friends DO.Gwen ain't a pick me either,she's a trans legend who didn't magically turn cis when she started passing contrary to how y'all think transfemininity work and Hobie didn't 'adopt' her,him taking her in was intersectionality and solidarity between black people and trans women which has an extremely important history in punk culture and deadass one of the first thing's i learned when i started my research after i decided to go pastel punk.You all look dumb as hell with these janky ass takes,especially those random hate comments i'm always seeing on Hobie x Spiderband posts and the defenses towards the cisfeminization of Gwen and don't even get me started on the Switfie allegations as if Hobie isn't obviously a The Cure fan and Gwen a Tv Girl one,and if you want minority characters to be written offensively with no depth so bad,go back to watching Danny Phantom and Miraculous Ladybug and leave Hobs and Gwendy tf alone!!!!!

Genshin Impact Fanfiction Ideas
A/N: These are just some fan fiction ideas that I had in my head (some are more fleshed out than others), I don't think I'll write them out tho so I put them all here because I like said ideas
There are gender neutral reader and male/female reader stories
(This list is in a random order)
~~~
Pantalone:
-Being his sugar baby or partner, either living with him and him spoiling you or him basically buying you your own house(he would still spoil you)
-maybe the Fatui take a keen interest into his personal affairs and he has to act as if you're really nothing special, you overhear this conversation and this miscommunication leads to fights, you end up storming off and being put in harm's way
Dottore:
-this little shit
-reader running away with a baby they had with Dottore scared of whatever the doctor might do if he got his hands on said baby
-"I don't trust what you would do them." "You trust me with your own body yet you won't trust me with my own creation?"
-running through some snowy woods late at night in Snezhnaya as he calmly with a smirk on his face hunts you down, it's a little game of Hide & Seek, at the end of the day though he's probably the victor
Itto:
-fem!reader is the daughter of an Inazuman noble family, reader has made and caught feelings for an oni friend/acquaintance she knew from childhood and they start a secret romance as her family would never approve
-one day her family comes to here and excitedly proclaims that she is betrothed to Kamisato Ayato and are so happy about the honor and status it's brought her family
-reader is obviously devastated and entrusts with Itto what happened, reader is married to Ayato and although he was kind and didn't force her to do anything she didn't want to, he didn't seem all too invested in this marriage either
-itto and reader continue meeting up in secret and reader low-key feels guilty that she's technically cheating on her husband and even if she didn't want this in the beginning no one deserves to be betrayed like that
-reader makes a decision to tell Ayato about her relationship with Itto, only to find him and Thoma being romantic with each other (this is awkward)
-eventually everything is talked through and there are apologies and laughs about the whole ordeal(no hard feelings and everyone understands the feeling of being scared to be open about their relationships due to public opinion, head commissioner with a lowly housekeeper?! the disgrace!)
-Ayato explains the reason behind such a rushed marriage was because with (insert national/international conflict here that he has to partake in) and Ayaka not being interested in marriage at all(which is perfectly fine in his eyes) it's up to him to make sure there's an heir for the Kamisato clan as his life is most definitely going to be in danger
-idk where it would go from here, but no one in this story is malicious and I'm sure Ayato, reader, Thoma, Ayaka, and Itto team up to make a plan to quell the threat and solve everybody's issues
Childe:
-Childe finds himself getting romantically attached to a prostitute he frequently spends time with, however the last thing he wants is another personal relationship put in harm's way
Itto again:
-reader and Itto being discriminated against cause he's an oni, he feels awful for being the cause of reader having to go through this
-reader explains how they don't mind and they knew what they were getting into, how others bigoted minds aren't his fault etc.
-a big fluff fic
Yae Miko:
-Modern AU
reader has an on and off relationship with Miko and is very flirtatious, they like to see Miko's reactions when she gets jealous
-one day either Miko has enough or reader goes too far in their "make her jealous" attempts and shit hits the fan
Kazuha:
-the friend trio was Tomo, Kazuha, and reader
-reader and Tomo were very close, practically lovers at the time of his death
-Kazuha has to relay the terrible news to them and they breakdown, Kazuha hides out in Inazuma for a bit trying to stay on the down-low, it's during this time that reader and Kazuha start getting closer
-Kazuha starts to get feelings for the heartbroken reader and feels guilty because they were Tomo's partner
-Kazuha eventually has to leave the country and reader is left alone in Inazuma
-Kazuha returns during the Irodori Festival and sees a familiar face in the crowd of civilians hanging out with Yoimiya
Kuki Shinobu:
-inspired by the song "Jenny" by Studio Killers
-fem!reader is best friends with Kuki, reader has started going out with Itto
-Shinobu and reader later runaway together leaving behind the cares of the past knowing they would probably be figuratively crucified by those they were close to
Kaeya and Diluc:
-m!reader and Kaeya share a drink at the bar
-trio is Diluc, Kaeya, and reader
-I do lowkey love Love triangle tropes
-reader gets close to both men separately and slowly uncovers the story of their separation from each other being conflicted as to who's right or wrong while also catching feelings for both
Kaeya:
-m!reader
-Yuri on Ice but with reader and Kaeya basically
Hey, so it seems that everyone is coming out to you so I though why not.
I’m not entirely sure if I’m Pansexual or Bi or something else entirely and honestly it’s kinda confusing (I’m female btw). I mean I don’t rly care abt gender but I find myself attracted to females ALOT more. So yeah idk. Maybe gender does make a difference. But then I don’t like the label Bisexual because it implies that you are attracted to males and females only and not people outside of that.
And also when it comes to coming out to people I kinda feel stuck. What do I say? All of my friends know (they’re also queer) but we never really came out to each other we all just kinda were like “hey! that girl looks good” and went along being gay af. But bc we all just knew abt each other we never really talked abt sexualities and stuff.
And on top of that I’m fairly sure my parents wouldn’t be supportive and no one I know irl can relate to that bc all of my friends parents are accepting.
I feel like I’m complaining over nothing. Im sorry 😫😫. But still love yah and hope you have a nice day 🫶
Hi! <3
I actually can relate to this first part SO much (as far as pan versus bi). When you say you don't care about gender, that sounds like pan to me. But then you say you have a preference, so is that still pan? I've wondered that for myself.
Here's what I have realized: Firstly, YOU are the person who decides who you are, so whatever label feels best (or none at all) is totally fine, even if it doesn't match someone else's definition. However, for me, I think it helped to think of sexual attraction as different than romantic attraction.
For example, perhaps you can find yourself sexually attracted to someone regardless of their gender. BUT, romantically, you prefer girls? To me, that would still be pan, but perhaps you are homoromantic (meaning you only enjoy romantic relationships with the same gender).
Or it could be that you could possibly see yourself both sexually attracted to someone regardless of gender and having a romantic relationship with someone regardless of gender- you just are more likely to want those things with girls. That's okay, too, and could still be considered pan! It's okay to have preferences!
To make this more simplistic, if we stick to a gender binary (which we shouldn't, obviously, but let's do it for a second for simplicity's sake)- a traditionally bisexual person is rarely attracted to boys and girls at a 50/50 split. Maybe they like girls 70 percent of the time and boys 30 percent of the time. That doesn't make them any less bisexual. So, the same holds true with pan. Maybe you mostly see yourself with girls, but also think boys are pretty cool, and nonbinary people are sometimes attractive, and agender people can sometimes be cute, etc, etc.
All of this to say, pick whatever label feels good to you (or none at all! I also frequently just say to people that I'm queer.)
As far as coming out, I think some people are under the impression that it has to be a big thing. It only has to be a big thing if you want it to be. It seems like your friends already know that you're not straight. If that's all you want to say, you don't owe them any more of an explanation or a label.
BUT if you want to come out, go ahead! Sounds like they'll be supportive, so remind yourself that they are safe for you and bring it up in a more intentional way. "Hey, I have a crush on this girl, what do you think?" or "Hey, so you know I'm not straight, right? It's cool that we all are so accepting of that stuff." I think you'll find your friends will be receptive, since they're not straight, either.
As far as your parents, that's trickier. It sounds like you still live with them, so coming out to possibly unaccepting people who have control over you can be sticky. If it were me, I would first do a bit of testing. Mention queerness in a hypothetical way or in a "I know someone who..." way. See how they react. If they react positively, you could start dropping hints. If they react negatively, consider the pros and cons to telling them. Is it worth it to come out because you would be sharing your authentic self? If yes, have a plan if things go poorly. Have a support system to talk to and to go to. If you find that it's not worth it, there's no shame in that, either.
But it's important to know you are NOT complaining over nothing. This is tough stuff and it's hard to navigate.
I'm here to talk if you need me! <3
For the fact that Bruce Jenner is a man with reproductive sexual organs of man same as me and how the fuck does that make him different than any other man? when in fact he is a man. How the fuck do you think he is woman just like yourself a natural born female? If you think he is a women how come he cannot get periods or goes through what a woman´s body goes through and if younger how would that man get pregnant? like to hear your leftists logic on men like him who think he is a woman.
Here's the thing about Caitlyn Jenner
Obviously she is biologically male. Obviously she is not the same as a biological woman. She's also not trying to tell anyone that she gets pms or should be allowed to compete against women in sports (quite the opposite of that, in fact). As far as I can tell, she's just trying to live as normal a life as someone like her is able but she's under no illusions that she will ever be quite the same and she's not trying to change the rest of us to make herself feel more normal.
I'm totally fine with this. She's not bothering me. She's not doing anything that affects anyone else.
So yeah I'm going to call her Caitlyn and refer to her as 'she' and all that. She hasn't gone by Bruce in ten years. My friend just got married and took her husband's last name. That doesn't make her biologically a Smith. But she's part of the family now so we're going to call her Smith. Caitlyn Jenner is not biologically a woman but as far as I'm concerned, refusing to acknowledge that she is living the way the rest of us do is just as silly as refusing to call my friend by her new last name. I can think it's a little weird, just like I'd think it was a little weird if my friend had decided to hyphenate her last name instead of just going with Smith, but so what?
I don't care what adults want to do with their own body and what they want to call themselves. I only care when they start to impose on others.
As far as all the other trans stuff goes...
I think there are a lot of kids who would have been goth or emo when I was growing up but these days are being told that they are probably trans or whatever. They just feel out of place and are searching for something that makes them feel understood. And while I don't really see the harm in letting them buy some new clothes and cut their hair a certain way to see if they feel better, there is no good reason for any medical procedures to be performed on them. I think there are a lot of well intentioned but misguided people trying to help them and I think there are a lot of sick fucks trying to take advantage for politics or profit.
I think there are also a lot more sick fucks who like to pretend to be trans whenever it's convenient and gives them access to someone they can prey upon. But let's just be adults here for a second - I'm pretty sure we can all tell the difference between someone like Caitlyn Jenner and some creep that just got convicted of raping four women and has decided suddenly that he would like to serve his sentence in the women's prison. Come on.
Locker rooms, bathrooms, and prisons are sex segregated for a reason and should stay that way. I would be perfectly happy to see some more gender neutral locker rooms and bathrooms in addition to the women's and men's rooms - but I am vehemently opposed to making either one of those the new gender neutral space.
I am not going to entertain the idea that transwomen are identical to the rest of us. Sports are sex segregated for a reason as well. I don't really know what would be fair to trans athletes but I know for sure that making the women's team the 'everyone team' is not fair to anyone. Anyone pushing that is just willfully blinded by politics.
I am not going to refer to mothers as 'birthing people' or gynecology patients as 'people with vaginas' or any of that nonsense. I am also not going to say 'people with two legs' to be sensitive to people who have fewer. We all know what we're talking about and if you are offended by your own differences, then I'm sorry but that's not something some sparkly new language is going to fix for you. I'm certainly not going to entertain the idea of changing the definition of 'woman.' I'm not going change how I refer to myself to appease anyone else. I will call you whatever name you want but you don't get to redefine who I am.
And if you pick a really stupid name or fake pronoun for yourself, don't be shocked when someone makes fun of it the way we all make fun of Xitter or some millennial naming her kid MacKeighleigh.
But here's the other thing about Caitlyn Jenner - she is not any of those people. Actually I don't think most trans people are any of those people. I think almost all of that garbage comes from people who are misappropriating the label or who fancy themselves activists and they're giving the actual trans community a bad rap. I think most trans people are pretty normal aside from the obvious.
We have a handful of legitimate issues to work out in regards to the bathrooms and sports and I'm sure that is a little uncomfortable to have to hash out but I think if we stop trying to be assholes on purpose, we can figure it out.
Thinking a bit about how I gender Crowley and Aziraphale in my writing, and why. Now, what I write is rarely trying to be canon compliant, or trying to exactly replicate canon characterization. I'm also writing what I like (or at least what the brain weasels want me to write), and I am an Aziraphale at heart, so I write a lot through his POV. And because a lot of what I write is smutty, that involves some degree of objectification, especially of Crowley.
So, that said... I definitely see canon Aziraphale as technically agender but also gay in a very mlm way, and Crowley as gender fluid in a broadly queer way. I think these interpretations are backed up by canon evidence.
Aziraphale: Learned to gavotte at a discreet gentlemen's club (AKA, a private gay club). Dresses somewhat flamboyantly, but in roughly period appropriate men's wear. It's often somewhat to a lot outdated, but even that Bastille outfit with the lace was fashionable men's wear in the mid 1700s. He is somewhat effeminate, but in a male way. This angel is gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide and THE southern pansy.
Crowley: Has presented female at a couple points in history. Nanny Ashtoreth was definitely a Role for a Job, but there was no unease in it. There's possibly a job-related reason for him to be in women's attire at the crucifixion, but we're not given one in canon; the Flood look is the same minus a headscarf, but everyone is in robes so I think that one's open for interpretation. In modern eras, some to most of the actual clothing pieces he wears are marketed to women (especially pre-Armageddin't). The pants, the glasses, the scarf, the S1 vest... Honestly, the whole 2008 outfit is such a queer female look and it overlaps with the Nanny timeframe. The 1827 Edinbugh look, from what I can tell, is basically men's wear, but the cut of that overcoat is, if not a women's coat pattern, verging really, really close to one. 1862 and 1941 are definitely masculine looks, like so much so in 1941 that it feels like an I Am Masc Today statement. 2023 also feels more masc in overall cut of the clothing (though the glasses and scarf haven't changed). Not canon, but I resonate with someone's suggestion that Crowley presents more masculine when he wants to be connected with Aziraphale, because Aziraphale is so obviously gay. All that together says fluidity to me. So that's what I see in canon, and I tend to default to those when I'm writing. When I'm staying closer to canon, I'm more likely to write them both as he/him, because that's what we see. For Pretense, they also both have penises, under the assumption that societally they may need them to blend in (we're in Rome in a time where some form of public nudity would be more common). I have written Ineffable Wives - in fact, that was what got me writing, was wanting to write them as female - and they both had vulvas in that one. For my post-canon/non-canon AUs, Aziraphale has so far been male-presenting and he/him and Crowley is variously presenting with a variety of pronouns. Either of them can have any variety of body configurations, just depending on my mood and what feels like it will best serve the story. At least one of them often has a vulva just because I feel like there isn't enough cunt love out there and I think it's hot.
I've thought about doing more female-presenting Aziraphale. If I'm writing what I find hot, it would make sense for me to write her. I'm not normally attracted to men/masc people with Aziraphale's body type but I am very attracted to women/femme people with that body type. Why? Who knows, but it is what it is. But the Aziraphale that lives in my head seems to resist being feminine in a female way, so he gets to be feminine in a male way, and the Crowley that lives in my head helps me write him as hot, even if I wouldn't normally see it. Crowley, on the other hand, seems totally fine with whatever I want to do with him/her/them, up to and including Demon and Snake forms. I'd like to write more of Fem Aziraphale (again, because I write what I find hot, and she's so hot), but I think she'd be an entirely different character to Gay Aziraphale, and she hasn't been as loud about having her stories told. Perhaps I need to try writing Butch Aziraphale instead and see where that takes me...
So anyway, that's way too many words on something no one asked me to talk about, but what is the internet for than spouting your opinions to people who didn't want or need them?
Hi! Sorry to bug you but I know you have meeces and I have some Mice Questions. I'm probably not going to get any anytime soon but after trying to deal with wild mice around my property I've realized how cute and soft and funny they are and it's like Oh. I Like Those.
How hardy are they? I know when I've looked at pet rats in the past everyone talked about how sensitive their respiratory systems were and how they were prone to respiratory issues and tumors.
Do they scare easily? I have a dog who's very loud and stompy and has a HUGE prey drive and I would prefer if their enclosure is in the dining room by me, but that's where he is. I know animals like rabbits can straight up just like... Have a heart attack and die if they get scared. Is that a thing with mice?
Are they relatively friendly with each other? I know males will fight, but I only want females because I have nowhere to put tons of babies. Will it be a problem to get mice from different breeders and introduce them?
Are they smelly? I have a 75 gallon aquarium I could use for an enclosure and obviously I would clean it and not overcrowd it but I don't want my parents to complain about smells. What kind of bedding is best and how often to change it?
Are there reputable breeders that ship? I don't know if I can find any breeders locally (I live in Wisconsin) and I don't want to buy from a pet store.
Are there any sort of colors or forms that are more prone to health issues that I should avoid buying?
I'm so sorry for all the questions oof
Many questions!!
They're pretty hardy, I mean, the mice out here are somehow still here after -40F and 100F+ weather. The thing about respiratory issues is that either you're using bedding that's way too dusty, or they've got a mycoplasma infection. Option A, change the bedding to something less dusty, see if it clears up. If not, it's PROBABLY mycoplasma, and that's actually pretty easy to treat in rodents with a combo of doxycycline and enrofloxacin. Mycoplasma is pretty endemic to captive rodents in the US, but more commonly seen in rats.
It is not a thing with mice. They do not care. They are stressed by constant loud noises, and experience some stress from loud noises in general, but I think that's a function of being alive.
If you're getting females from a breeder, you should be able to put them together without issue; breeders SHOULD be selecting for this kind of thing. Whether they DO is another issue. Personally i do; if I combine does and one of them starts immediately attacking the others (beyond normal hierarchy sorting), she gets culled out. As such, you should be able to get mice from any breeder and be fine. I would not get less than 2 per breeder; you want to put any new mice through quarantine, and they should have a buddy in there, and they should be introduced with that buddy so they had least have one buddy if the established mischief doesn't like them.
They definitely have a smell! What type of bedding can have an effect on smell, but the bigger issue is usually how dry you can keep the enclosure. Wet bedding smells worse and can grow things that smell worse. Mice try to be tidy creatures, they will often pick a potty corner or section of their cage to use to pee in, and the buildup of waste there can cause a big smell. Personally I use cob bedding and shredded paper products (I make my own), but I always liked the Kaytee paper bedding. Carefresh is awful; the chunks are too thick and chunky for mice, and do not dry out so it smells bad constantly. Newspaper is wayyyy too dusty. Aspen or kilm fired pine is fine (most pine beddings are kiln fired). Raw pine or cedar are bad. How often you change it depends on what kind it is, how much of it there is, how much smell you can tolerate vs how much disruption the mice can handle. There's no way you'll eliminate all the odor though, no matter how much you clean it, so if the smell is a problem, they might not be a good fit.
This is actually 4.5- 75 gallon aquarium is too big. Counterintuitive I know. But large spaces stress mice out really badly. In order to use a 75g aquarium, you would need to heavily pack it full of hides and other equipment to make it full of small spaces. The typical enclosure size for a few mice is closer to a 40 quart storage bin. You CAN use the 75g, but just be aware it'll be a LOT of work to maintain in a way that's healthy to them and doesn't smell terrible to you.
Shipping isn't really done for mice because it's prohibitively expensive. The only reason labs get away with shipping rodents is that the companies who produce them do the trucking themselves. Your best bet is to find the local FMBA or ARFMA or other breeder group in your state, and find breeders through them. The FMBA lists 4 members in your state! Craigslist is another option, although that won't really tell you anything about the quality of the mice on offer.
This is actually 6.5, but local pet stores (as opposed to big chain ones) may be your friend. They may be able to put you in contact with folks who breed, or they maybe willing to post an ISO for you. Local pet stores also sometimes breed their own or get their stock from local breeders! It's worth looking for little mom and pop type shops and checking into it.
Anything with an AY gene (yellow, brindle, snow tiger, etc) will be prone to obesity. Tumors are more a genetics of the individual line not specific to a color. Manx mice should be avoided due to bone structure issues. If you're just keeping pets, some breeders may offer mice with faults for less- for example I soft culled a line recently because several babies had kinked tails. Since you're not breeding and a kinked tail doesn't affect overall health, that's a fine mouse to own, but ethically you would want to be sure the breeder isn't breeding FOR that or ignoring the issue and continuing to breed the parents. Anyone breeding toward show type is selecting for qualities that are fine, health wise; unlike some show standards, mouse show standards include health stipulations and traits that would degrade quality of life are frowned upon heavily.
They are, wholly speaking, pretty uncomplicated pets. They need a fairly clean environment (not totally clean, they determine hierarchy largely by scent and take comfort in the scent of home), fresh food of decent quality, fresh water, plenty of hides, and basic enrichment.
Hi do you have any thoughts what if spider was ftm in your modern au? How does this affect his relationship with Quaritch and what do you think about it in general
ftm Spider 🤔🤔 inTeresTinG... I wrote a post about Spider being mtf already but not ftm.
He would hopefully have gone through gender reassignment service by the time he meets Quaritch, but this would be no surprise to him. Since Quaritch got out of jail (and even before then) he'd looked Spider up and had his team keep a close watch on him. So he would know that his 'daughter' wasn't a girl anymore, and tbh I think he'd just be burning with curiosity. He'd be asking himself what happened for his daughter to become a boy - even wondering if there was anything he could have done to stop it.
He wouldn't be a dick, but he wouldn't really see Spider as a boy either. He'd treat him like a girl tomboy, and try and make light of the situation by joking about how he always wanted a son to teach football/baseball to.
All of Spider's official documents would still be female because that's the last thing CPS could care about.
Spider would realise probably around the age of nine or ten, and start hormones as quickly as possible. Thank God for Norm - not all social workers are as proactive and supportive as Norm, and it's part of what makes their relationship so tight.
This is one of the few occasions when Spider was grateful to be moving around so much - everywhere he went was a new start, and nobody new him as a girl. At some point he gets the chance to bitterly thank Quaritch for giving him at least that.
Also here are some thoughts about if it happened in the canon universe (because I'm an idiot and didn't read the question properly)
Norm would be on those hormones straight away, obviously. When Spider first came out as a male, Norm was sceptical at first but after it became apparent that Spider wasn't going to change his mind, Norm was the first person to support him. I have thoughts on hormones at Hell's Gate here, and do think that Norm would procure them for Spider.
I feel like Spider would really want his breasts gone. I don't know how practical that would be, seeing as there are zero qualified surgeons living at Hell's Gate, but with the advanced technology I'm going to go ahead and say it would be possible. They would even be able to remove the scar tissue in time!
I think he'd realise pretty early on - around the time when he first starts hanging out in the forest for most of his time (so about the age of nine? ten?) and of course all the Na'vi are perfectly fine. It's the humans who Spider has to struggle the most with, and there are lots of hushed conversations behind closed doors about how 'this wouldn't have happened if he'd had a proper family!'
Of course Spider ignores it all and gets on with his life, maybe it's part of what drives him to spent more time with the Na'vi, and make him feel more accepted into their culture than human. After all, the Na'vi couldn't care less that he wanted to change genders, and on top of everything else they've got going for them, that's even more amazing of them in Spider's eyes.
Quaritch would be completely confused. I wrote a oneshot about their first meeting if Spider was mtf (which I cannot find for the life of me) and his reaction would honestly be pretty similar!
Why I'm quitting my job that I'm now 8 months into.
For about a week now, I've been having some self revelations. Or rather I should say some self re-discoveries (I'll go more into that later). For now, I'll describe all the straws singularly being plucked one by one, aka small things that drive me crazy.
Just to get right into it: my coworkers are extremely ignorant. The first day I was getting trained, the person training me already made racist jokes, calling black people "basketball Americans" and how "he's sick of them. they're so loud, and they smell like weed". That genuinely bothered me to my core.
Another thing, a lot of them are sexist. The men there complain about their wives. Genuinely grosses me out.
The manager and one of the female coworkers (who has a boyfriend btw) very obviously have a thing going on. All of my other coworkers mention how its weird, yet nobody is reporting it? In fact, the female coworkers sister is protecting the manager. A customer is aware of this situation (granted hes a piece of shit too. this customer harassed me, however I wish he actually called HR and reported it) and he made the joke that he'd all HR. Thats when my manager was warned about that by the sister. Im just sick of this. To make matters worse, that coworker called her boyfriend stupid for not picking up on what's happening. She would tell him about the gifts that her manager would give her, and he'd say how he's happy for her because that has to mean something positive about her work ethic, or how much the manager respects her, etc. she legit was like "bro you're so stupid lmfao" EVEN WORSE. Women would come up to her and ask her if she's single because they want to introduce her to someone they know. Her answer? "Well.. I'm not married... We can talk about it later!"
Today, I was ringing up these two customers. A dude, and what I can only assume to be a trans woman, either that or a masculine person dressing femininely (I'm describing that specifically bc its a relevant detail) and my male coworker legitimately asked "........is that a man. Is that a man in a skirt." First of all, we legit have a trans coworker so he's not actually stupid, he's being willingly ignorant. And secondly, asking me that as if this is some crazy thing to see like this is the wild or something is actually, well, wild.
Tumblr media
Now, I'll be revisiting what I meant by "self re-discovery".
I noticed I've been growing tolerant towards certain things that, in actuality, I cannot stand. They drain me.
People like my co-workers, and people like the customers there, are the exact opposite of me. I miss community. I miss the times when I could walk into a building, a place and talk to people who I agree with, who I can talk about my hobbies with, who I can talk about my passions with. At work, I cant do that. My coworkers are- for a lack of the better phrase- too normal. Like... overwhelmingly normal. A lot of them don't have time for themselves, so their lives are filled with complaining about their car, or their kid, or about their day job. Constantly talking about sports. Constantly talking about becoming a pilot when they're older, or wanting to work at a golf course......... like, what? I cannot relate in the SLIGHEST to that.
When I walk into that building, I feel the loneliest. At first, it was fine, I could laugh with them at a distance, but then I re-discovered that I'm the type of person to be extremely bothered with stuff over time. I re-discovered that Im simply an intolerant person towards, well, intolerant people. Why be a shit human? My goal in life is to surround myself with people who are good for me. My goal is to surround myself with others who I wont constantly look for red flags in.
Tumblr media
To close this out, I want to say that I most likely will be quitting in the span of 3 months. I'll be writing my 2 weeks notice soon.
And, if anyone needed to hear it, I just want you to know that ANY reason is a good reason to leave your job. Your employer is owed NOTHING. Leaving and not giving them your time is your right. I don't care if they end up under staffed, and you shouldn't either. That is not my responsibility, and it isn't yours!
yeah i think the main three female characters in breaking bad and better call saul (skyler, marie, and Kim) were very well written. but writing the few women on your show well doesn’t erase the fact that there are so few women. the one thing that i did appreciate about breaking bad was how much narratives space they gave skyler despite Walt/skyler not being a traditional shippy romance. like skyler’s pov always mattered to the writers even when it didn’t matter to Walt. whereas on better call Saul kim’s role in the show is very much contingent upon her being the one TM for jimmy.
👆👆👆
nothing to add, I completely agree. I think I've even mentioned this before... yup, back when I started the show:
there’s one. ONE. one woman that combines some depth of personality, consistent onscreen presence, prospective storylines, and active relevance to the plot. ONE. and sns but at this point Kim is just not freaking enough for me, especially when she has her position by virtue of being the love of the male lead’s life (I like them just fine but let’s be serious). and nothing of what I’ve gathered from my dash makes me think it gets any better in the numbers game.
yeah.
obviously Skyler and Marie's roles in the show are contingent on what they mean for the men in their lives, lbr here, but. there's obviously a reason why Skyler is SO hated and I have seen nothing of the sort with Kim (I'm sure some fans still hate her, she's a woman lol. but I don't belong to either fandom and yet I've seen plenty of vitriol against Skyler).
I haven't finished either show and maybe I never will, so I don't want to be categorical; I get the feeling that in the end, both male leads do have control of the narrative (in the sense that it is THEIRS and everything works in tandem with them as the centre everything revolves around; this doesn't always mean good things for them, obviously xD). it's just that for each this means different things. Skyler opposes Walter and (I hate this word) "emasculates" him; both Walter and parts of the audience resent her for it. Jimmy wants Jimmy&Kim to be a team, and always has. the nature of their relationship on both Watsonian and Doylist levels are wildly different.
which is more than fine but it speaks to why it seems easier for people to accept Kim (she's in sync with Jimmy's narrative on a Doylist level even when they aren't in sync on a Watsonian one). and that makes me value the fact that Breaking Bad gave Skyler as much space as it did more. because that space IS to be expected for characters like Kim, but NOT like Skyler.
Hi! I saw on a post that you're agender and I'm kinda questioning my gender (again) but what interested me more about that post was that you said you believe that gender is a social construct and I'm not really familiar with that theory. I was wondering if you could explain to me what the whole idea is? (bc I kinda only feel like a have a gender in social situations? In my head, my dreams and how I picture myself in the future, I'm genderless idjskahwksjejensj) Sorry for bothering you if I did.
This is a BIG topic and it opens a LOT of wormholes.
We’re gonna do this in pie slice statements that will hopefully help explain what I mean. Please keep in mind I’m going to simplify many things for the sake of readability.
1) What is a social construct?
Social constructs are ideas that are negotiated by social groups. Something being a social construct does not make it ‘not real’.
For example, money is a social construct. Yes, we have cash - coins, credit cards - but these are physical props that are REPRESENTATIVE of the idea of currency. You have some form of credit to your name - the money is a socially agreed-upon idea of value being represented by bills in your hand, by numbers in your bank account.
Tumblr media
[Description: Two humanoid figures are standing side by side. The right-side figure is holding a rock in its hand.
Right side figure: Let’s agree that this shiny rock is worth 2 sheep.
Left side figure: Sounds fake but ok.]
Technically, countries are also social constructs. We, as a society, negotiate what a country is, and this can be changed.
Tumblr media
[Description: Two figures are standing on either side of a dotted line drawn on the ground. The left figure is pointing down at it while the right figure watches, its arms crossed.
Left figure: Let’s pretend that everything on this side of the imaginary line is mine.
Right figure: ...ok but my house is over there.
Left figure: ... for 3 shiny rocks you can come visit.]
Does that mean canada isn’t real? No. (I mean, obviously canada ISN’T real, but we all agree to pretend it is.) The thing that makes it real is that we are in agreement, and all follow the social rules of pretend to make it seem like the Canadian border, the idea of Canadian citizenship, etc... is an objective fact. (It’s not. These are in fact, negotiable limits and parameters. We have laws in place to define it in legal terms, but those laws can be changed, or may change in the minds of communities. That’s why it’s a construct.)
By that same token, I hold the view that gender, as we largely perceive it in modern society, is a construct. Why? Because it is not inherent; we, as a society, negotiate its meaning.
2) What is gender?
People will probably fight me on this and that’s fine, but here’s my (simplified) understanding of gender (from someone who personally has none)
Gender is a social category negotiated by cultures based on your assigned or desired role in your community that influences, among many other things, your physical appearance, your role in family units, your expected position in jobs, etc.
How I think it happened:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Description: Two figures are standing on either side of the panel, both holding children-looking figures. The one on the left is wearing purple. The one on the right is wearing green.
Green figure: Hey, I’ve got an idea. What if we separate the babies into two groups based on physical traits they have no control over?
Purple figure: Wh-- okay...?
Green figure: And then limit the jobs they can do and the community ritual involvement available to them based on that!
Purple figure: ... I feel like this is going to backfire on us someday.
Green figure: Nah, it’ll be fine.
The past panel is a dramatic closeup on the purple figure’s face - which is featureless - betraying a deeply doubtful emotion. It says nothing.]
Important points to remember: what gender looks like, what the limits are, what the expectations are... are not inherent to any human biology. We make up gender roles. This is evident in the fact that across the world, gender roles differ by culture. The positions people of a certain gender are allowed to take up are different. What is perceived to be ‘girly’ or ‘boyish’ is different across cultures.
Simply speaking - currently the (western) model we have, dumbed down, is:
You are assigned male at birth because of physical characteristics
You are raised being told to ‘toughen up’ and ‘boys don’t cry’ and encouraged not to show emotions
You are taught to wear male-coded clothes and discouraged from female-coded fashion choices
You are given more opportunities to participate in sports, encouraged to engage in physical activity, etc
You are not expected to need time off for child-rearing
Here’s where gender as it works in society breaks down into being not a real thing but instead something we thought up:
Nothing about having a penis necessitates wearing pants. Nothing about having XY chromosomes means you need to keep your hair short. Nothing about your genome makes the experience of nail-polish different for any human being.
All of these are arbitrary traits we decided were allowed or not allowed to a specific group of people based on entirely unrelated physiology.
Even if we delve deeper, there is MORE variation among individuals of the same ‘sex’ than there are, on average, of members of the ‘opposite sex’ when compared to each other.
Many people use the excuse ‘women are physically not as strong as men’ to say that this has an evolutionary aspect driving these cultural, historical, socially-constructed gender requirements.
But if there was a physical reasoning behind the culturally-set gender-limited job expectations, then we actually WOULDN’T need a traditional binary gender system to sort ourselves into categories. It would simply be decided as a meritocracy - stronger individuals, regardless of gender, would be given physically-demanding jobs. (Also we know that many jobs thought to be ‘traditionally male’ are just the result of sexist bullshit, so this reasoning doesn’t fly any further than I can throw it which is, coincidentally, not very far. Politics is one such area. Doctors are another. We can go on but I think you get my drift.)
My own example of this is an anecdote when my grandparents came to visit my partner and I in Japan. While we were driving down to Tokyo, my grandmother - who has a PhD in entomology - began to say that driving is a masculine activity and women shouldn’t be driving as it was ‘un-woman-like’. My partner almost immediately fired back that in Japan, studying insects or having any interest in them whatsoever was considered a heavily masculine-coded activity. In Russia, there is no such assignment, and my grandmother was left silently blinking in confusion, unable to come up with any excuse except ‘well, all cultures are different, I suppose...’
Do either of these things inherently have a gendered aspect? Of course not! But we assign gendered ideals to them anyway.
3) If gender is made up and constructed by society, then does that mean trans people aren’t real?
No.
Even if you agree that gender is a social construct, trans people are still real. TERFs don’t get a pass. Why?
Because gender - as a social construct - still affects our everyday lives, dictates our social position in our community. Transitioning is still a thing that has to happen. The fact that you are NOT easily able to decide your own gender and are ostracized for wanting to transition, abused for dressing the way you want to be perceived, and bullied for wanting people to refer to you with different pronouns - all those are the effects of a social construct that has very REAL impact on our lives.
This is also why I dislike defining trans-ness by dysphoria. Because transgender people are not only their suffering - the suffering is coming from the outside!! Many trans people remember not being concerned about their gender identity in their childhood, because they did not yet perceive the world as being hostile to their desire to fulfil a specific role in society. The issues and self-hatred and dysphoria begins when they express wanting to be themselves - a life which they are forbidden from pursuing based on physical characteristics they were born with.
Does this mean we should try to remove gender from society? If we constructed it, we can deconstruct it, right?
Realistically, I highly doubt this is possible. Gender is so ingrained in our daily lives that it would be difficult. Nor, I would say, would it be necessary to achieve world peace.
Having social groups - having gender - isn’t inherently a bad thing. The bad thing is when we limit those social groups to specific basic human rights, like voting, or when we forbid them from transitioning from one to another based on things that are out of their control.
Also, I’m not saying genitals and secondary sexual characteristics aren’t real. Please don’t bother sending me that angry message, I’ll ignore it, I promise.
But the concept of gender IS something we thought up and maintain and negotiate with each other to this very day. It’s not granted to us by a higher power, nor is it a constant, unchanging thing. It’s a part of the human experience and like everything, it has the potential to evolve - as a concept in our communal memory, as well as on an individual level, for people who feel they want to be perceived differently.
Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk!
The morning rays cracked through the gap in the curtains, shining on the two people lying in bed. Birds chirped, and flew around, beginning their days. Damian and (Y/n) lay in their bed, still fast asleep in a tangled mess of limbs. Subconsciously pulling (Y/n) closer to his shirtless frame, Damian lowly groaned as a buzzing noise filled the bedroom. Sighing in annoyance, the male attempted to turn off the noise.
Gently removing his arms from her waist, Damian rolled over and reached for his phone, charging on the bedside table, hastily turning off the alarm. Sighing, he ran his hands through his messy locks, attempting to somewhat fix his bedhead. His eyes trailed over towards (Y/n) who was still fast asleep, burrowing herself deeper into the blankets.
Moving closer to her, Damian lightly shook her shoulder, a fond smile on his face. "Beloved, It's time to get up," he spoke, his voice a little raspy, having just woken up. However, only receiving a groan in response from the girl. Continuing to shake her shoulder, the girl finally turned towards him. Rubbing her eyes in an attempt to wake herself up a bit more.
Lightly groaning, she looked at him with a quizzical expression. Smirking at her lightly, he spoke. "It's time to get out of bed." Letting out a playful and dramatic groan, she flopped herself back onto the mattress. Damian rolled his eyes, getting out of bed, lightly hissing when his feet hit the cold floors. Opening the bathroom door, he glanced back to (Y/n).
Seeing her begin to go back underneath the covers, he spoke up. "Beloved, I'd better not find you in bed." Smiling in satisfaction as he watched her get out of bed, a very annoyed look on her. Entering the bathroom, she washed her face with cold water, hoping to wake herself up a bit more. "We're going over to Grayson's later." The male glanced at her, waiting for an answer. "Yeah, I know."
Walking back into the bedroom, (Y/n) opened the closet, pulling out one of Damian's turtle necks, some jeans, as well as her socks and undergarments. Quickly changing into the clothes, she rolled her shoulders to wake them up. "At least we get to skip training today," she mumbled, hoping Damian hadn't heard her. Arms wrapped around her waist as Damian rested his head on top of hers.
"Unlikely." He spoke, having obviously heard her. His eyes trailed to the top she was wearing. "Beloved, why are you so insistent on taking my clothing?" Damian asked, "Do you want me to stop?" (Y/n) responded, glancing into his emerald green eyes. "No, you look ravishing in my clothing." He mumbled. Humming in response, (Y/n) finally took notice of the lack of a shirt on Damian. "You should get changed, Dami."
"I suppose." He mumbled, rummaging through the cupboard, pulling out his own clothes and shooing (Y/n) away, as she laughed, shutting the door behind her. Sliding down the railing, she hopped off, entering the kitchen to make breakfast for two of them and Titus. Washing her hands, she dried them and began to cook. First filling up Titus's food and water bowls. Deciding on just making the toast. Adding a few strawberries to both the plates, as well as some tea, since Damian wasn't the biggest fan of coffee.
Just as (Y/n) finished setting the table, and putting out Titus's food, Damian came downstairs, Titus following right behind him. Lightly kissing her temple, Damian sat down. "Thank you for making breakfast." He paused to take a sip of his tea. "It was delicious." (Y/n) grinned at him, silently thanking him for the compliment.
After this, (Y/n) collected the plates and mugs. Damian offered to help with washing the dishes before they headed out. Scrubbing away at the dishes,  (Y/n) finally finished rinsing out the dishes, handing them to Damian who dried them off. Finally drying their hands, the two walked towards the front door, where their shoes were.
Putting on their shoes, (Y/n) placed her hand on the doorknob, stopping as Damian piped up. "Beloved, I believe you are forgetting someone important." Turning around to look at him, with an irritated expression, she spoke. "We are not bringing Titus." Watching as Damain recoiled in horror. "And what is the reasoning for that." An equally irritated expression adorned his features. "We're only going to be gone for a few hours Damian, he'll be fine."
"And how would you possibly know that?" He glanced at her, awaiting a response. Rolling her eyes at him, (Y/n) grabbed her phone and keys and exited through the front door. Flabbergasted at the gesture action, Damian quickly petted Titus goodbye and grabbed his things before leaving and locking the door behind him.
(Y/n) was already in the car, in the passenger seat scrolling through her phone, and could do little to stop the small smirk that played its way onto her face when Damian finally got in the car. An annoyed scowl set on his face. Starting the car as the two pulled out onto the driveway, still very annoyed. "We could have taken Titus with us." He grumbled out when he realized that (Y/n) wasn't going to fall for his petty attitude. Gently placing her hand on the one he wasn't using, (Y/n) gently smiled at him. "Titus will be fine, we'll be back home soon anyway."
Letting out a defeated sigh, Damian kept his eyes on the road, rubbing circles on (Y/n)'s palm as she was doing something uninteresting to him on her phone. She would occasionally look up from her phone when Damian pointed out something that had changed since the last time they'd come here. Soon, the neighborhood they pulled into became familiar. Making a final turn, Damian parked the car in Dick and Kori's driveway, turning off the engine but slightly frowning when he let go of (Y/n)'s hand.
Walking up to the front door, (Y/n) rung the doorbell, and not long after Kori opened the door. Pulling (Y/n) into a hug, Kori said gleefully. "(Y/n), it's been too long!" quietly laughing as she pulled back from the hug, as Kori turned to Damian. "Hello Damian." She smiled at him warmly as he waved uninterested. "So, where's Dick?" (Y/n) asked, peering over Kori's shoulder.
"I would also wish to know the whereabouts of Grayson." Damiam piped up. "I actually left him in the kitchen, he's making dinner." She spoke with a worried look on her face. A string if curses left the kitchen, which the three heard. Realization dawned on Kori's face, as she opened the door wider. "It's pretty cold outside, please come in." Thanking her, (Y/n) grabbed Damian's hand and dragged him into the house with her.
For the next few hours, Kori and (Y/n) engaged in conversations that were either beyond Damian's understanding, or his interest. For the most part, he was on his phone, reading something in Arabic but he was grateful that (Y/n) would try to involve him in their conversations, even if he was giving one word answers. Soon, Dick called them into the to eat, as the three sighed, finally happy to eat something.
Upon entering the dining room, the three glanced at the food that was spread out. Half of it looked over cooked, while the other half appeared to be undercooked. Kori and (Y/n) tried their best to be polite, thanking Dick for making the wonderful food, however this wasn't the case for Damian. "What is this rubbish?" As he glared at the food in complete disgust. "The only thing that doesn't look burnt is the salad." He crossed his arms.
Delivering a swift kick to his shin from underneath the table, (Y/n) interrupted him. "It looks lovely Dick, thank you for making the food." Glaring at Damian. From there, Kori and (Y/n) forced down the food, as to not hurt Dick's feelings. Whereas Damian completely refused to eat anything. When the food was finished, the four were ingaging in some light conversation.
"So (Y/n)," Dick began, as (Y/n) glanced at him, awaiting his question. "Can you cook?" He asked. "I guess so, not anything too complicated though." She quietly laughed when Damian rolled his eyes and spoke up. "You give yourself too little credit, Beloved. I'm sure you could cook much better than Grayson and Kori" Watching as Kori feigned mock offense, however Dick was quiet the opposite.
"Well, I bet Kori is much better than (Y/n) at a lot of things," he narrowed his eyes in Damian's direction. "Do you wish to name those things?" Damian glared back with just as much intensity. "Yes, just take how strong Kori is." Dick said gesturing to his girlfriend, as Damian scoffed at him. "My Beloved could rival Kori's strength effortlessly." "But she can't fly can she?" Dick responded, adding fuel to the fire.
Both Kori and (Y/n) both made uncomfortable eye contact, watching the two males argue back and forth. Kori gestured for them to slip away, as they both got up but Dick and Damian were too invested in their argument that the two didn't notice. Back in the living room, the two females sat there in silence for a moment before bursting out into fits of giggles and laughter. As their laughter died down, (Y/n) spoke up.
"I'm really sorry about Damian." As Kori shook her hand in dismissal. "Its alright, Dick is just as bad." As (Y/n) nodded in response. The two decided to play a game of card to pass the time. Roughly an hour in, Damian came in and looked around the room. Once he'd spotted (Y/n) he grabbed her hand and dragged her out of the house. "We're leaving, I refuse to be around to Grayson's utter stupidity." Quickly waving goodbye to Kori, she let Damian drag her into the car.
"You seem mad, huh?" (Y/n) stated in a teasing tone of voice. Rolling his eyes and refusing to look at her, Damian continued to drive. Once again grabbing the hand that he wasn't using, (Y/n) began to trace small shapes on his knuckles with her fingers. It was a silent attempt to calm him down, which more often than not, worked. Letting out a sigh, Damian spoke. "Thank you." Humming in response, (Y/n) continued to play with his fingers.
At something during the car ride, (Y/n) stopped tracing shapes on Damian's hand, he turned to glance at her, smiling in content as he noticed that she'd fallen asleep. He was thankful to have her, even if he didn't often show it. That was the exact reason he'd fired up when Dick tried to compare her to Kori. It was nights like this, he was grateful he could experience.
"Good night, Beloved."
not to be a nerd on main about this, but we should stop transcribing 형 / 누나 and 오* / 언니 as bro / sis. linguistically they have very different connotations and it's kinda driving me up a wall as someone who's very invested and interested in languages, like, I do realize that especially casual watchers of like kdramas, who just started getting into them after Netflix or whomever added a bunch of them to their library, don't really care and that's totally fine with me! it's a considerably small thing, and if you just wanna watch something without diving into the language or culture or anything, then you're totally free to, that's valid, honestly
just. that's not what those words mean, connotation-wise and every time I read "bro!" or "sis!" in Netflix's or even YT's subtitles I die a bit inside.
obviously I'm not Korean and if anyone who speaks the language well / lives in Korea and is well familiar with when those are used, wants to weigh in, feel absolutely free to!
but to break it down briefly, those are honorifics attached to a person's name if they're older than you, but not, like, significantly. older students, older colleagues at work if you're a bit more friendly with them, friends, and ( your actual ) siblings. they are normal and do not immediately imply you view the other person as a sort of sibling from another parent.
yes, they do basically translate to "older brother" / "older sister", but transcribing it with "bro" and "sis" respectively has an entirely different impact than what they are actually supposed to infer. it's a polite suffix, that can in certain situations also imply trust or a more intimate relationship, because otherwise ( especially outside of a school context ) you'd use 씨 ( shee ) after their name. just that nobody especially in a school context does that because they use 형 ( hyeong / hyung ) / 누나 ( noona ) and 오빠* ( oppa ) / 언니 ( eonnie / unnie ) — former is used by males and latter by females, both times to address an older 'brother' / an older 'sister' respectively — either alone or after their name.
the companion piece is adding 아 or 야 (-a for names with a consonant at the end or -ya for those with a vowel ) to the names of people younger than you ( or those you're close with ) — and for example in All Of Us Are Dead they do that all the time and it's not transcribed by cutesy-fying their names is it now. they just put their names into the subtitles and move on.
I personally think it'd be much better to simply use you in any other sentence and if some character yells 형! across the room in distress, to transcribe it with the other character's name for emphasis. that's for me personally the closest, connotation-wise.
or, you know, have hyeong / noona / eunnie / oppa* in the transcript / subtitles in italics and explain it with some translator annotation the first time it appears alone. but that's generally an issue with subtitles on such platforms I feel. they remove words when creating the subtitles and leave out such nuances because gods forbid they'd force casual viewers to pause the show to read the annotations akskdkf. either way,
tl;dr they don't use teen slang in kdramas all the time even if the subtitles would have you believe otherwise and it's probably a problem that stems from companies thinking they can't "bother" their customers with having to pause to read, but I think that's simply taking away important context to a depicted story and I'd really like it to stop, thank you.
*oppa is a bit special because it is also used as a sort of term of endearment by women towards their boyfriends, or like, when they flirt with them pre-relationship, so it can also imply a romantic interest, be mindful of that. but I'd assume then it'd be transcribed with some sort of babe or honey or something.
(late at my own ask game lol) 25,26, 28, 31 and 40 for the Fates ask game!
Thank you!!! This was a lot of fun and I'll always give my two cents on themes and things!
(Also I half wrote/edited this while sick so I just hope it makes sense 😅)
25. Talk about the game’s themes!
I think I've mentioned it before but it's worth repeating, I just love the messages on kindness and trust. Despite everyone calling Corrin naive and childish, working together, trusting, showing mercy, and showing kindness is what brings success throughout the whole story. Choosing a side results in an imperfect win, while the path where you stay nonviolent and refuse to harm either family is the one with the happiest ending. Corrin is still smart and strong about trusting suspicious people, as seen with Anthony. You are rewarded for peace and trust and thats so crazy for a battle game and I love it!
Obviously family is a huge part of this game as well. I especially love the different types of familial relationships: there's traditional sibling and paternal relationships, two sets of twins, adopted siblings, step parents, cousins, as well as a few that are more important to interpretation (like Gunter being a father figure to Corrin, Corrin and Lilith having a special connection, and the Awakening kids having a special found family bond because of their past). The game addresses good and bad elements of both, showing forgiveness, abuse, grief, and love. There isn't a black-and-white message for or against blood families, it's very situational and I appreciated that, since it could have been very easy to push a "blood relatives good, found family bad" message.
26. Your favorite cool details?
Okay I'm only going to point out things that others said because theyre my favorite details I've learned. I liked @heartfeltstories 's comments on the game mechanics reflecting storyline, like how the lack of extra battles and difficulty raising supports in CQ show how lacking of resources and community the Nohr army is in the beginning. Also, @alexthedreamermiss talked about how the Hoshidans seem to be the familial type, and Nohrians focused on duty, but all the Hoshidan retainers are ninja/samurai bound by duty and bloodline. All the Nohrian retainers are misfits/criminals who were taken in by the kind royals.
28. Who did you marry the first time? (Multiple answers for each route are fine)
OKAY so both of them are really silly don't laugh at me......... I didn't marry anyone in BR because I was playing as male Corrin and I wanted him to marry Kaze but the game didn't let me so in my head they were gay married 😭
Then in CQ I was really struggling with the battles and had almost no supports with anyone, it was so tough. I really loved Niles so I constantly paired him with my female Corrin. I wanted him to live his best bi life though, so even though I married him for the stat boost, I my head they're just friends and he got gay married to someone else 😭
31. Favorite platonic relationship?
Elise and Corrin! Maybe it's just because I love Elise so much asfggh, but it's beautiful how much kindness, optimism, and strength she gives to Corrin no matter which side they're fighting on. I love that Corrin reciprocates all that as well. They are protective over her while also not treating her like a baby -- they trust in her abilities. All the other siblings have moments of doubt and feel betrayed, but Elise seems to always be on Corrin's side, always willing to listen to both sides, and always willing to act as mediator (even if it causes her death). They just have such a sweet and strong bond no matter the route :)
40. Freebie! Talk about anything Fates-related that’s on your mind🌊
I really loved the fantasy aesthetic/design in this game! Off the top of my head, the water themed, silent, ruined, floating island kingdom; the changing of the skies; dark mages with winged capes; mechanists riding puppets with strings; the water theater with boats to view the stage; the seamless combination of shapeshifters, mages, knights, and ninjas working together; a battle where poison and cures balance precariously around you... like, the visuals and worldbuilding were straight up cool the whole time! While the other fe games I've seen had very classic and lovable fantasy elements, something about Fates felt really unique to me and I was hooked :D
Hello Mera! First of all a lovely congrats! I was wondering if I could get a Merlin and Doctor Who what if ship? My pronouns are she/her. I’m very creative and curious. I spend lots time living in a world of my own discovering and exploring ideas. To the outsider I seem incredibly "dreamy" and distant, because I spend a lot of time inside my own mind musing over things. I’m very easily bored by day to day things and will zone out on the majority of people. As for hobbies I’m very interested in the visual arts. I myself am an artist working in both fine and digital mediums. I also love studying symbols through art (I’ve tried to incorporate them into my own art ya know give the viewer a sort of scavenger hunt). I also love films, books, video games, and movies. This is to an extent of over analyzing and theorizing. Let’s just say I’m invested in stories. My favorite genres are probably myths/legends (Arthurian specifically), espionage/mystery (bond movies, sherlock etc), historical fiction (assassins creed), sci fi (Star Wars/Doctor who) and fantasy (Merlin, lotr). Back to studying art which is what I am currently doing in college. I’m majoring in Digital Media Art which is things like user experience, web design, cgi and graphics etc. I also love to workout and kickbox. Lastly, my preference is for either males of females. Thank you once again!
Thank you!
Here they are! This is my first time trying to do a What If ship, so I hope you like them! They are under the cut!
Merlin:
S/O: Guinevere.
How you met: You were brought to Camelot by Uther not long before he died. You were hired to curate art/art pieces for Camelot. You met Gwen when you were touring the castle, and you became friends quickly.
Your relationship: I think the two of you would be close friends for a long time, before your relationship grew, until neither of you could ignore it anymore. You two were afraid people would not approve with your relationship, but you soon found out that your friends had made bets on how long it would b before you started dating. They are actually very approving and love that you two are happy.
Role/Job: As I mentioned above: I imagine you would be an artist, and a curator. You would make and bring beautiful art to Camelot, and adorn the castle with it.
Best-Friend: Merlin of course. You two would be rambunctious together, causing mischief and helping people as well as you could.
Other Info: After Uther died, you were afraid you would not be allowed to stay in Camelot. But Arthur liked you and allowed you to stay, inviting you to continue your job as you had before. + You and Gaius share a love of books and often lend various books to each other to read and talk about.
Doctor Who:
S/O: Eleven & Ten.
How you met: You met the Doctor when he was Ten, after you were trapped in your work place by aliens that had come to Earth to take people for some reason (I'm not that creative right now lol). And you stayed with him until he became Eleven.
Your relationship: You and Ten fell for each other fairly quickly, and become so close, that of course when he regenerated, it was hard for your relationship to continue. There was a rough patch and you fell back in love, but you did! Because even though he was very different, he was the same at his core, and you could not help but want to continue being with him no matter what.
Role/Job: You worked as a digital artist at a popular art museum. But obviously this all changed and ended when the Doctor came and rescued you.
Other Info: You were very useful to the Doctor on your adventures, as you are very knowledgeable, clever and analyzing. You can often see things he misses, or solve problems he is too excited about to see clearly.
^I'll let you imagine what kind of adventure this would have been lol
xx
I hope you liked them!
