Underrated Haikyuu Teams on a Road Trip

Tsubakihara: All of them, closeted or not, are swifties. They blast Taylor Swift most of ride and scream the lyrics. At some point, Maruyama and Teradomari start arguing about Star Wars or Star Trek being the better franchise, but nobody listens. Kakugawa: Everyone gets hungry 10 minutes into the drive, and Komaki, the one in the driver's seat, is screaming at Asamushi for spilling Miso Soup in his car, while also screaming at other drivers because his road rage is bad when he's stressed. Ohgiminami: Oyasu and Towada are arguing over shotgun when Towada obviously called it, Akimiya's stressing out because he's driving while trying to keep things from going to hell in his car, Tazawa and Moritake are brawling over the aux cord, Natsuse is ugly crying for some unknown reason, Yokote started some beef with a trucker in another lane and is trying to jump out of the window, and Karamatsu is holding him back. Shinzen: Ōtaki decides to drive because she knows good and well that they'd end up in a ditch if she didn't, Ogano spots Ubugawa out the window and is screaming at Gōra from across the road, Shimafu is trying to pull Ogano away from the window, Naguri is screaming at Kodama for no reason, Kodama is crying because he doesn't like being yelled at, Chigaya is calling his boyfriend, who's team is screaming to Taylor Swift, and Akatani and Yoshikawa are controlling the aux cord and playing the Arctic Monkey's Humbug album, which Naguri is also screaming about. Ubugawa: Gōra nearly rear-ends a car in front of them while screaming at Ogano from across the road, Miyanoshita is climbing over everyone to wave at Ōtaki, Yukawa and Nanasawa are playing Nicki Minaj on the aux, Nakagawa is trying to calm Gōra down from the back seat, Ashiya and Isehara are sharing snacks, and Sengoku is listening to calming music through his headphones and ignoring everyone. Wakutani: Matsushima, who just got his driver's liscense, has taken the wheel and is freaking out, Hanayama is being a backseat driver, Nakashima is trying to keep Kawatabi from playing shitty rap on the aux, Naruko is badgering Nakashima about stopping to eat, Shiroishi is getting car sick and about to vomit all over Hanayama's new clothes, and Akiu is sleeping through the yelling and reckless driving.

My Hero Academia

I figured give some information on a few MHA/BNHA OCs I’ve had in my notes app for a while.

Hirosa Kairi - The Emotionally Charged Hero: Morose

Kairi Hirosa is a student of UA High School in Class 1-A. She was born on January 10th and is a Capricorn.

Her parents are secretly training her to be a powerful villain so that they could defeat her and climb the hero ranks. Her and Shoto use to be best friends before their quirks manifested. His father and her parents separated them.

Her Quirk is called “Moody Dark”. She can instantly change her mood so she’s sad and upset. The people surrounding her feel her sadness. Her sadness contracts their muscles and causes them to clench their arms and legs before hitting the ground.

Shigaraki Tanaka

Tanaka Shigaraki is the child of All For One and the adoptive sibling of Tomura Shigaraki. They were adopted by Inko Midoriya. They were born on March 28th and they are an Aries.

Tanaka inherited their father’s Quirk.

Todoroki Naya - The Cold Hero: A Shooting Star

Naya Todoroki is the fourth child of Endeavor and the older twin sister of Shoto Todoroki. She was born on January 11th and is a Capricorn.

She left middle school one year earlier to enroll into Shiketsu High School. Her father being the #2 hero (at the time) was the only reason they let her in that early. She hates Endeavor just as much as Natsuo does, but keeps quiet about it. Her relationship with Shoto is heavily strained due to her believing Endeavor favored him over literally every other child.

Like Natsuo, Fuyumi, and Rei, her Quirk is “Frost”. She can cost herself completely in ice as well as generating it from her body. She mostly uses it to coat the area completely in ice so she can use her skates that are on her boots.

Bakugou Yoko

Yoko Bakugo is the older sister of Katsuki Bakugo. She was born on April 5th, making her an Aries.

She left home not long after Katsuki developed his Quirk, though she didn’t leave because of him. She truly loved her brother. Only being 9 years old, she didn’t know where she was going and crossed paths with Toya Todoroki. The two stuck together and thrusted themselves into a life of villainy.

Her Quirk is the same as Katsuki’s.

Talyn Sage - Brain Drain

This is basically just me but in MHA / BNAH. Taking a lot of creative liberties with my own backstory.

Talyn was born/raised in America, but moved to Japan shortly after the death of Cathleen Bate / Star and Stripe . The two had been neck to neck for almost 5 years due to Cathleen being America’s #1 Pro Hero and Talyn being the most feared villain in America. Even though it looked like the two hated each other, Talyn still respected Star and Stripe and felt a giant gaping hole in their chest when she was killed. Moving to Tokyo, and waiting out the current arc in the manga, Talyn sets their plan in motion. Their motive? Fixing the world.

Talyn’s Quirk is “Brain Drain”, from a long line of brain related quirks. Being a 4th generation Quirk user, their Quirk surpasses the capabilities of their father’s, grandmother’s, and great-grandmother’s Quirks. “Brain Drain” allows their brain to exceed superhuman speed, allowing them to be almost omniscient, but too much at one time will leave them tired and their memory suffers.

Mikumo Noriko - (yes I did make an OC for the prototype AU)

Noriko Mikumo is the younger sister of Akatani Mikumo / Yamikumo (prototype Deku). She was born on March 25th, making her an Aries.

She goes to UA High and is in the same class as Akatani. She has an unhealthy obsession with Yuu Uraraka (prototype Ochaco Uraraka) and Katsuki Bakugo, constantly stealing clothes, shoes, blood, books, trinkets. Anything she can get her hands on. The cardigan she wears all the time was stolen from Katsuki.

Her family used to perceive her as Quirkless (like Akatani), until she managed to get a taste of Katsuki’s blood. She constantly seeks him out for more of it, for reasons she doesn’t want him to find out.

I have a lot more, but these are the ones I’m actually planning on writing into stuff.

Sorry for the delay, got distracted with some stuff. I promised the end-of-book material, so here it is - all the things from 7.005!

Had to rotate this in order to get a better feel for the height difference and their appearances. Seeing the proto-characters is so strange - Katsuki looks basically the same, but Mikumo and Izuku have wildly different vibes, as do Yuu and Ochako, as well as All Might and Superhero. I swear to god, though, I think I’ve seen someone with Superhero’s face... and I don’t mean All Might. I wonder if he was referenced off of someone? Hmm...

(Also no kidding Hori, I too stare at Mikumo and think ‘get a haircut’. I’m pretty sure Best Jeanist would take one look at that hair and expire on the spot in horror.)

After this and some of the cover / content pages, we get to... the character sheets again! But this time, with the different translations that’s probably official VIZ versus a fan translation / early translations. I won’t repost them, since it’s still mostly the same information, but this IS where that alternate Katsuki character sheet comes from - you know, the one with the ‘I’ll handle his character with care’ bit.

Hori no, take care of yourself! Sheesh. This man, I swear.

The only other thing after this is the ‘ensemble page’ showing off all of his assistants as various ‘superheroes’. It is... something.

...no wait, I stand corrected! There’s the ‘back cover’ for the volume here, and it’s got a fun couple of tidbits:

Perhaps bits and pieces of in-setting advertisements one would see? Definitely the first nod to how commercialized heroism is... not that that’s an issue whatsoever in this series! Ha, ha, ha... whoops.

Anyways, with that done, I suppose it’s time for volume 2 and the battle training arc! There will definitely be a lot of things for me to peek into there, and I am kinda hyped for it.

For the last day of the week! @protobnhaweek

Prompt: 28th - Summer Fun | Beach

It is the 30th for me, but we're gonna ignore that. I had to sketch this on paper first because I couldn't get satisfied with the layout when I tried to do it digitally first. I've never drawn this many people in one piece of art before, so it sure took a while.

Anyways, all designs here are prototype designs with some artistic liberties since prototype sketches aren't colored. Akatani meets a pretty face at the bookshop.

If you asked him, Akatani would say he doesn’t mind the library/bookshop he works in.

Its a lot better than slaving away at retail. The most he does is stand by the desk and organize books. Not many people come around this side of town, and even fewer enter the old bookshop he works in.

Still, Uraraka slaps a paycheck down every week, and it’s enough to keep him from sinking into the watery depths of eternal debt.

Uraraka doesn’t even bother him half the time. She just gets irritated whenever something happens that could affect the pay she gets, which is understandable. At first, he’d been quite scared of her dead eyes and resting bitch face, but after a year of working there he learned that the dead eyes was not the thing to fear.

Case in point, he finds, when a tall, spiky-haired blonde with too many muscles and a beaming smile slams a textbook and a book on dinosaurs onto the table.

Akatani glances up, ready to scan the books, but instead pauses.

FUCK, that face is pretty.

It’s got a strong jawline, and that beaming grin is so white and blinding. Those crimson eyes shine like the stars, and a weird instinct he’s never had before in his life wants to lean forwards and run his hands all over the sides of his face and feel his breath on his shoulder and stare into those eyes forever and peck on those sw-

Laughter interrupts his train of thought, and he blushes furiously, snatching a book and scanning it.

The laughter doesn’t stop. “Ooooo, somebody’s got a crush!” Uraraka hollers mercilessly, eyes glimmering.

”Yuu!” He sputters angrily, trying desperately to cover up his tracks. “You’re embarrassing the costumer, and I do not!”

He turns back to the costumer and tries his damn near best not to get caught up in those crimson eyes like blazing fire.

”I’m sorry for her, sir. Now, uh, your, uh-“

Just read the damn numbers!

But fuck, this handsome ass costumer is laughing now too, and it’s like the burst of spring after a long and hard winter.

Akatani wishes he could pull into his uniform and curl up and never come out ever again for the rest of eternity.

He tries to distract himself. Vellichor paints the air like a paintbrush of brown and silver, mixed with dust and an almost homey feeling. The old red-and-brown radio thats from whats probably the 1950s plays old instrumental tunes.

Still, he’s dragged out of his distraction by a shuffling as the man grabs the bag, and he glances up to see the man smile so wide that his beautiful eyes scrunch shut.

”So, when do I have to return these?” He says, voice like beautiful bells with gongs to back them up like power.

Akatani stares down at the number. “J-July 1st, sir” He manages.

The man smiles. “Great! Can’t wait to see you again.”

Then, he slides something down near him, turns heel and leaves.

Akatani glances down at the thing that the pretty man slid towards him and just damn near faints.

On the paper is a phone number, a name - Katsuki Bakugo - and a little call me! Beneath the number with a heart on the exclamation point.

He feels like he’s dreaming. “Yuu, if I die, will you come to my funeral?”

Uraraka slaps a hand on his back. “And I’ll bring your little plus one, too.”

”Yuu!”

Cackling is the only response.

Akatani Mikumo (+Other Prototypes) Headcannons

For those who aren't aware, Akatani Mikumo was a prototype for Izuku Midoriya. Here is a sample sketch below:

Physically speaking, Akatani has black long hair that covers his red eyes. Otherwise, he still carries most of Izuku's traits (the boi got da freckles!!!). So, without further ado...

...here we go.

Like Izuku, Akatani's nickname is also his hero name: Yamikumo.

Yuu Takeyama was originally the name of Ochako's prototype. She had some of Ochako's looks, but her quirk and name were of Mt. Lady. Eventually, Horikoshi gave the name and quirk to the Mt. Lady we know today, but he kept Prototype!Yuu's design, eventually turning her into Ochako. Much like her cannon counterpart, Yuu has a crush on Akatani, and their feelings are ultimately reciprocated.

Akatani's Katsuki is actually a decent person, though he also has a tendency to accidentally tell people off. He looks exactly like Katsuki, but his personality is completely different. His nickname is Gougou (轟轟), which means "rumbling." He and Akatani are basically brothers in everything but blood.

Akatani's All Might is buff 24/7. He didn't have a crippling injury because there wasn't an All for One in his world. This All Might just spends his time taking down everyday villains, and the occasional megalomaniacal mega boss who almost defeats All Might but then loses because this world is more in line with classic comic books. Also, his hero name is Valiant.

Akatani remains Quirkless. One for All is replaced by Super-Power as Valiant's quirk.

Valiant and Akatani have an... interesting dynamic. Valiant still wants to be the Symbol of Peace (he's doing a good job of it, too), and then he sees this scrappy young teen who, in spite of his own apparent cynicisms and lack of a quirk, still wants to become a hero and stick it up to the stuck ups and villains alike. Seeing Akatani would likely remind Valiant how he was once an idealistic teen, too (Super-Power grows stronger as time goes on, like how One for All grew stronger with each wielder). Valiant would realize that he may have gotten a bit too caught up in the moment of stopping flashy villains and overhyping petty theft. Akatani would make him see that he still has a lot of work to do... and maybe he'd give Akatani some words of wisdom while he's at it.

Akatani isn't as initially hopeful as Izuku was. He's still berated for being Quirkless, which grates on his self-esteem and makes him a bit cynical. His ideology would be a combination of All Might's heroism and what Akatani has seen from the bottom of the social chain. He'd probably get into one or two fist fights with the other kids because he's trying to protect someone else. But even if he's beaten and bruised? The bullies go away; the person Akatani was protecting is safe. That's enough for him to decide that quirk or Quirkless, he's gonna be a hero. He also wouldn't be as self-depreciating as Izuku because Gougou (and later Yuu) would be his support system. He's still a bit reckless, though.

I personally think that in terms of gear, Akatani would have the following:

Electro-Gloves (Izuku's Full Cowl lighting is one of his most prominent aesthetics, and his early drafts suggest a tazer would be a part of his arsenal. Thus, I give Yamikumo cool combat gloves with electric properties to continue the trend.)

Grappling Hook Guns (He has two of them on his person when he's out heroing. Also, as this post states, Akatani's hero name was more in line as a Spider-Man reference, so him occasionally swinging on his way to deliver justice, or just trapping villains, isn't too far fetched.)

Utility Belt (Yamikumo still has a utility belt in his costume. It's mostly just first aid in the pockets, but he does carry two other items in particular: flash bangs and smoke bombs. Yamikumo is a bruiser, but he likes working in a little misdirection into his fighting style. When you're Quirkless, use every advantage given to you.)

Izuku got a slight costume redesign, so I think it's only fair that Yamikumo gets his own as well (plus, his initial hero costume is a bit too creepy). I'd personally go for a more indirect form of intimidation. Yamikumo would still wear a respirator with the whole shark teeth grin aesthetic, just a little bit smoother than the one in his initial sketches. The top part of his costume would basically be the extremely durable and dark equivalent of an All Might hoodie (he'd even keep the bunny ears). He'd still wear his own unique brand of red shoes, though.

If Akatani ever met his other counterparts (Izuku [Hero], Izuka [Hero], Deku [Villain], and Dekiru [Vigilante]), he'd likely be one of the only sane members of the group.

Akatani does the Naruto run sometimes. Don't question why, he just does. It's surprisingly effective, too.

If his hood takes damage for whatever reason, Akatani has a backup mask in his Utility Belt reminiscent of his old costume with a built in filtration system.

Akatani is a good team player, but if he's placed on the same team with Prototype!Yuu or Gougou, RUN.

Akatani will not hesitate to poke your eyes put with his Electro-Gloves if he's pissed enough.

Akatani is a surprisingly good therapist; he'll listen to your problems and comfort you afterwards, but he'll be honest if he has to be.

Akatani's smile is actually very bright. His smile with his hero gear on is only bright if he's not facing a villain.

Akatani and Prototype!Yuu cuddle. So do Akatani and Gougou.

Akatani has some of Izuku's other qualities, like compulsive muttering, scary analytical skills, and lacking social graces.

He's probably more composed than Izuku is, and his brand of awkward is more deadpan and honest misunderstanding, like Shoto and Mr. Aizawa.

Akatani likes to spar. If Gougou's busy, Yuu will likely fill in for him.

Yuu's quirk is slightly different from Canon!Mt. Lady. She can actually increase the size of her limbs separately. Of course, the proportional strength still carries over.

Story Summary:

Prototype BNHA Week Challenge Three: Yamikumo and Deku | Yuu and Ochako | Katsuki and Proto Katsuki

A run in with a mysterious villain who seems more interested in messing with them than in actually fighting leaves Izuku, Ochako, and Katsuki stranded in the middle of a vast forest with no way to contact help or get home. To make matters that much more bizarre, they meet what appear to be mirror images themselves who claim to have faced the same villain. No one is sure of anything except that they need to figure out what's going on before Yamikumo and Katsuki murder each other.

Warnings: Light swearing, canon compliant violence
