When A Christmas Carol: The Musical was staged annually at Madison Square Garden, every year except one, the role of Marley's Ghost was played by Paul Kandel, the voice of Clopin from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame.

In the 2004 TV adaptation of the musical, the role is played by Jason Alexander, the voice of Hugo the gargoyle in the same movie.

I guess it makes sense, since Alan Menken was the composer of both, but it's kind of funny that the role of Marley seems inextricably linked (no pun intended) to voice actors from Disney's Hunchback.

Learning about the stage casting makes me wish all the more that the stage production had been filmed for TV. I would have liked to see what Paul Kandel did with that role, since his vocal performance as Clopin is one of the highlights of Hunchback. Jason Alexander's casting in the TV version isn't unforgivable... it's no more against type than Statler and Waldorf are in the Muppet version, and less against type than Goofy in the Mickey Mouse version... but still...

Fic Ideas

Snames: James keep thinking about Severus after Hogwarts and regrets everything. So when he sees the other guy in Diagon Alley he wants to talk to him, he never thought it would be so hard to keep himself away from someone.

Sniddle: One day Severus finds a black notebook placed in his dorm bed and things just gets stranger. Someone replies to him whenever he writes down and he slowly falls in love with this mysterious person.

Snarcissia: Narcissa, who has made a political marriage, is not at all satisfied with her relationship with Lucius. After a while, she meets Snape, a working-class man, and falls in love with him.

Snirius/Snames: Severus goes to a blind date (by force) and meets with a man. He is cocky, arrogant and annoying and Severus wants nothing more to just leave. (Sirius/James on the other hand is planning a second date.)

Snames: Severus works at a library and the same person comes to get a new book everday. It is clear that he isn’t reading it at all because no way someone can read to whole The Hunchback of Notre Dame in one day.

Snirius: Severus becomes a penpal with a criminal, Sirius Black. Everything is fine until Black is released from prison.

Snupin: Severus has germophobia (OCD) and decides to go to a therapist.

Snames: James falls in love with a melancholic ghost that lives in his house.

Snames/Snirius: Sirius Black is adored by everyone, everyone except one person. Severus Snape. And he was pretty sure if he did try, even the greasy git would fall for his charm eventually.So, how far was he willing to go to win a bet?

Snupin: Its Care of Magical Creatures class. Suprisingly, animals love Snape and he loves them. Hagrid(or whoever the teacher is) brings a unicorn and doesn’t let anyone aproach. Sev tries it and the Unicorn let him. Everyone is shocked. Remus is very interested in him after this. Because, maybe he can also approach his wolf and can calm him so he doesn’t get so much hurt?

Snirius: After Sirius uses a dark spell to stop his magic as a ‘prank’ Severus has to stay with the Blacks until they find a way to solve this problem (The ministry forces them, if not Sirius’ll get punished.)

Severus has to stay at a dorm and to his shock, he has to stay with three jocks -James,Sirius,Remus. He is not happy about it.

Severus shares a apartment with Sirius/James. He isn’t exactly friends with this guy but hey, he is rich and he isn’t going to complain.

• Coffee Shop AU. Severus just wanted to get some coffee but the damn barista was more interested in annoying him then doing his job, goddamnit. (Snack/Snames)

Severus lives in a shitty town and works at just as shitty work. But one day when a Mafia group decides to claim their town things just gets worse. (Marauders/Snape)

(Snupin) Severus gets a new apartment for college. But what is that? There’s a ghost living there! Well, he isn’t going to leave, the rent is really cheap so he has to learn to live with him.

Okay so time for me to dump my thoughts on the Underworld Saga because I am going insane and tbh I'm not sure how coherent this will be because my brain is mostly keyboard smashing.

The Shades: "When does a man become a monster? 558 men who died under your command. CAPTAIN! CAPTAIN! CAPTAIN! CAPTAIN! Why would you let the cyclops live when ruthlessness is mercy?"

Okay so the harmonies of the Shades are amazing! But also this whole bit is just so... haunting. The call back to Just a Man and Ruthlessness does something to me. Could you imagine being screamed at by the ghosts of everyone you've failed? Also Jay confirmed that the shades in this song are just repeating their final thoughts in life. They drowned begging for their Captain to help them and died wondering why he failed them. This probably fucked Odysseus UP.

Odysseus: "I keep thinking of the infant from that night. I keep thinking of the infant from that night."

I swear I can hear the PTSD in his voice holy shit. Also Astyanax's music box motif being played in church bells in the back. I never would have noticed it if not for Jay's behind the scenes videos but knowing it's there makes this bit so much better.

Odysseus: "Polities..."

I was not nearly as wrecked at this bit until I saw this post mentioning that Odysseus quiet little "Polities..." is a mirror of Polities strangled "Captain..." when he died and now I will never be the same.

Odysseus' Mom

I am not exaggerating when I say I cried during the watch party. Everything about this is heartbreaking. His mom was thinking about him in her final moments. "Odyssues when you come home I'll be waiting" except she wont be. The shocked defeat in Odysseus' voice with "I took too long...". He's right there in front of her, but her shade just doesn't register him. They are so close physically yet still separated by death. Also the fact that Jay's mom voices her that is so sweet omg.

The change from "Here in the Underworld the past seems close behind" to "But in the Underworld your past is always close behind."

Jay's voice acting for Odysseus' is also great in this.

The distress and frustration in "We've suffered and sailed through the toughest of hells. Now you tell us ur efforts are for NOTHING?!" and the absolute anger in "WHO!?!?!" (Its you, Ody. See your about to go through a complete change in morals about 5 minutes from now and become a completely different person).

This is my favorite song released in Epic so far and I am not normal about it at all.

The GUITAR! THE ELECTRIC GUITAR!

For those unfamiliar and being dragged along this nonsense post, Odysseues character is associated with the guitar. The acoustic guitar is when he is softer, kinder, and more "human" while the electric guitar represents him at his most brutal, ruthless, and "monsterous". This song is his turning point to which he is done being merciful. He will do ANYHTING to get home.

why I think avalanche by ghost is from dracopia’s perspective

ofc this is a cover of leonard cohans song but hear me out bc it fits too well, so here’s the story-

dracopia is pretending to be a beggar to trick people into empathy. he only wants to kill them and move onto his next victim. that is until he meets you. at first, he treats you like anyone else - luring you to him inch by inch - but soon, he realises that this is different. he feels different. why? he is in love with you but this new feeling confuses and terrifies him. he becomes obsessed and overzealous and when you don’t reciprocate these intense feelings he becomes angry. so angry he does what he planned in the first place; he kills you.

now why do I think this? let’s break it down

initially, I thought there were 3 characters: you, him, and the beggar. no, he switches perspectives from first person, to third, then first again. he makes it clear that he is an imposter “when I am not this hunchback that you seek I sleep beneath the golden hill” and “the cripple here that you clothe and feed is neither starved nor cold”

he does not like you at first. he says “he does not ask for your company” and “you’re lost you do not compel me”

he is then intrigued by your infatuation with him but doesn’t think it’s enough. at least, it’s not enough to save you from him “the crumbs of love that you offer me they’re the crumbs i’ve left behind”

but then, as the beat drops, he realises what he’s done; treated you differently and pushed you away. how could he be so stupid! his feelings are so intense that he can’t recognise them. he is so used to pain, anger, and hate that he doesn’t know that love is staring at him in the face and it terrifies him. so, he turns on you, “I have begun to long for you, I who have no greed. I have begun to ask for you, I who have no need”

how dare you make him feel these feelings!? how dare you change the way he has lived for millennia?! he threatens you with pain and death. he becomes defensive and angry because you are now scared of him “you don’t love me quite as fiercely now and you know that you’re not sure”

until he finally breaks. “it is your turn beloved” he knows what he must do despite these intense feelings of love “it is your flesh that I wear” and what he must do is what he planned from the start; he kills you.

in a world of monsters and paranormal activity and alien conspiracies her faith is still important to her and I love her for it (well. that and many other reasons)

She’s a doctor but quit to become an FBI agent so she ends up just doing autopsies on people who died to ghosts or aliens. She is usually super factual and a huge skeptic, but she has repeated crises of faith and has to go to church to chill out. She feels guilty about everything constantly. Her family members remind her to be more catholic and then they end up dying and then she feels even worse. She gets abducted by aliens.

Most of her character arc revolves around struggling to square her faith with a) being a heavily skeptical scientist b) aliens being real (something she resisted very strongly on the grounds that she’s a skeptical scientist) c) being abducted and getting pregnant and nearly dying as a result of said aliens being real. Struggles with this so much that she’s in the confession booth like :grimace: especially because her investigative partner Mulder is a) an atheist b) believes in aliens just as strongly as she believes in Jesus

Refuses to believe in aliens because there’s absolutely no proof for it but then spends a whole ass episode trying to convince Fox “Aliens abducted my sister” Mulder that angels are real and can cause miracles. The sheer quantity of scientific qualifications she has only to turn around and say she wholeheartedly thinks biblical angels are 100% legit
