How the Jujutsu Kaisen Characters Smell
A/N: Absolutely no one asked for this but I have thoughts and now yall have to hear them. Btw gonna put a keep reading because I’m trying to cover as many jjk characters as possible so it’s gonna get long.
Warnings: Spoilers if you’ve only seen the anime or haven’t read the manga up to the Shibuya Arc (relatively minor but you’ve been warned)
Itadori
He’s nowhere near the best smelling but his scent isn’t awful
He sweats a lot so he takes showers a minimum of 2x a day
Overall his smell isn’t that bad, he just smells like outside
5/10 points for effort but he always smells like he just got done rolling around in grass
Fushiguro
Fushiguro smells like the suave ocean breeze body wash with an undertone of pen ink
His smell is very nice, it’s not the most remarkable but it’s not stinky
Middle school Megumi was definitely a hot mess that smelled solely of axe body spray and other middle schoolers he beat up (Tsumiki tried her best but there was only so much he’d compromise on)
After he started attending the Tokyo school, Maki threw out his axe and made Gojo buy him actual cologne/scented body wash
7/10 smells like a friend (points reduced because he used to use 3 in 1 body wash)
Kugisaki
Kugisaki is very much clean
She keeps up a beauty regimen and doesn’t play when it comes to upkeeping it
She has this light floral scent because of that; it varies between cucumbers and roses
Her body wash is also consistent with the smell of her beauty products
One thing about Kugisaki’s smell is that it does change completely depending on what products she’s using
Although, if she were to be completely clean with no scented products, she’d have a smell that’s a little bit metallic because of the nails and a little pumpkin-y
10/10 points because she sets the standard
Gojo
Smells like the inside of a guys car
He smells like bergamot and cedarwood mixed with a hint of leather
Overall he smells nice and it’s frustrating because his scent lingers. It’s so distinct that even when he’s gone, his scent will stay behind just to taunt you
9/10 minus one point for being Gojo
Maki
She’s very particular about hygiene
It mainly stems from 1) her upbringing and 2) the level of cleanliness needed to clean all the weapons she uses regularly
She smells of metal polish, lavender with a hint of patchouli, and a slight undertone of rust
10/10 overall very strong scent but it’s so uniquely her that it’s calming
Inumaki
This makes no sense but I feel like Inumaki smells like the sandwich part of a deli
Specifically that fresh baked bread and sliced lettuce smell
It can be a bit nostalgic at times especially because the smell in general occurs in a lot of places
10/10 because bread smells good
Panda
It’s canon that Panda smells like the sun but we can get more specific
Panda does smell like the sun but I think he smells like a freshly cleaned room with the curtains open
The smell is like air freshener mixed with the sun
The air fresheners he smells the most like are: morning and dew, wood, pine, pet odor eliminator
10/10 no explanation needed
Yuta
Smells like teen spirit
Pre-jujutsu high (and before he was sent away to Africa); Yuta smelled like deodorant
He smelled like wayyy too much old spice, it was pretty bad
Post trip to Africa (idk which country he went to), Yuta smells of shea butter, frankincense, and charred wood
8/10 the crimes of pre jujutsu high Yuta will not be easily forgiven
Nanami
He smells like the blue Ralph Polo Lauren cologne
No I will not take criticism
He also smells a bit like the wrinkle spray people use when ironing clothes
10/10 we been knew that Nanami looks good, smells good, and dresses good
I don’t even like that cologne but for him...
Shoko
Love Shoko but her smell isn’t the most pleasant
Literally smells like cigarettes and alcohol with the sterile smell of cleaner to top it off
She’s an icon but her smell can be overwhelming at the best of times and suffocating at the worst
5/10 some people might like it but it is not for me
Utahime
Her scent is very foresty, either pine or spruce, with an undertone of gree tea
Her scent is a bit muted too so you can only really smell it if she’s really close or if you’re hugging her
It’s not a bad scent though, it’s the type that immediately sets you on ease
10/10 smells like a warm hug
Mechamaru(spoilers)
He’s a robot what’d you expect???
Jkjk Pre-Shibuya he smells really sterile and clean due to his condition
His robots obviously smell like metal and wiring
Post-Shibuya arc(or yk during technically): He smells kind of like nothing
There's the slightest smell of sparks from his cursed technique and the hint of mojito’s smell lingering, but otherwise he smells like absolutely nothing
6/10 the lack of smell is a bit off putting
Miwa
I can’t explain but I feel like Miwa smells like banana and vanilla
Like Mai and Momo tricked her and she ended up actually liking the smell
6/10 not the worst but not the best
Mai
Mai smells really heavily of metal and gunpowder
Obviously brcause of her cursed technique but she ever expected it to stck to her like it does
She doesn’t make any active effort to change it though because she thinks it makes her seem cool and mysterious
4/10 because while it DOES make her seem cool and mysterious, she scares locals
Momo
She definitely uses bath and body works perfume (tempted to say she uses the glittery versions but alas)
She loves using all the candles, lotions, and perfumes because of how girly they make her feel; has a collection that’s probably on a rotater
Definitely uses sweet pea above all
Tries to get Mai to try some of her fragrances but she has a 30/70 chance of getting her to agree
7/10 another scent that’s not for me
Todo
He has a really intense cleaning regimen and is never caught lackin in the smell department
He gets all the more embarrassed when Yuuji smells stinky next to him and will always make Yuuji shower if thr boy stinks
Other than that, he smelled of an ocean-y cologne before Takada-chan released her perfume collection
Now all he talks about is how he smells like the perfect husband for Takada
Takada’s perfume is really light a floral (along the lines of rose + vanilla) and if Todo runs out, he tries to steal it from Momo’s collection
9/10 minus a point for being a simp
Noritoshi
Smells really clean except for when he’s using his cursed technique
On average, Noritoshi smells like the clean linen spray/ clean laundry
When he uses his technique, he smells like blood and when he uses his technique to “dope”, he smells like sweat
Usually he smells like clean laundry though, he’s very picky about how he smells and hates the smell he gets from using his technique
10/10 for keeping clean
Naoya
If you think this man washes his ass...
Sorry but he’s a little too busy being a misogynist
Naoya saw the term gooch grease and was like “wow someone gets it!”
-400/10 I’m sick of talking about the ways this man smells like a popped neck pimple
Mahito
Only person that smells worse than Naoya
If Naoya smells like a popped neck pimple, Mahito smells like a literal sewer
He smells like sewage, garbage, rot and decay, melted plastic,etc.
Not only does Mojito’s body stink, his breath stinks, hair stinks, just everything stinks
Jogo and Hanami can’t tell since they don’t have noses but everytime Geto gets a whiff, he dies a little inside

Sukuna
Pre-death; he smelled like blood 9 times out of 10
The other 10% of times he smelled like incense or jasmine but you’d never smell it for long

I’m sorry but 1) he’s a mass murder who literally sits atop a mountain of skulls 2) he’s technically dead and only exists thriugh his fingers
If you think that man smells like anything other than rot and grave wax...
-2/10 be glad he got a higher score than Mahito
Choso
I love Choso with every ounce of my being
That being said, he smells like a scab
Scabs don’t even have smells but somehow he smells like one
Alright I’m done slandering him
3/10 because I didn’t have the heart to give him anything lower
Geto(spoilers)
Pre-Gojo angst: Geto was the best smelling sorcerer in the world
He was very meticulous about his grooming routine and showed Gojo how to care for himself w/o the aid of servants
A king of self care and personal grooming 10/10
Post-Gojo angst: Geto really stopped caring about his appearance
He’d keep clean to set a good example for his kids, but he didn’t really see the value of looking decent
Probably says “I refuse to use the technology of monkeys”
Even though Mahito smells worse, Geto does still hang around Mahito and that’s gonna rub off
2/10 take a shower man, sea water doesn’t count as cleaning yourself
Junpei
Junpei smells like dandelions/picked grass and cigarettes
Cigarettes are obviously because his mom smokes them so frequently the smell sticks to him
The dandelions/ picked grass smell is because Junpei spends a lot of time outside
Out of boredom or a need to keep his negative thoughts at bay, Junpei started picking at the grass
I do think he eventually started weaving flower crowns made of dandelions and strips of grass
6/10 because I feel bad for him
Toji
This man...
As much as I’d like to pretend he smells good, he has a drooling worm hanging off him and probably owns like one outfit
That being said, he’s not as stinky as Naoya or Mahito (or even Sukuna), because he does clean himself when he has the chance
It’s just that he spends his money so quickly that he kinda forgets sometimes
Although he usually has no problem finding some woman who’d be more than willing to put him up in a hotel room
His smell is musky but it’s not funky
He smells like a guy right before they start to get stinky, it’s a delicate balance
4/10 he’s a lil funky but it kinda feeds his image

RWBY Volume 8, Chapter 1 Thoughts and Opinions
HELLO, INTERWEBS!!! At long last, we are back with more RWBY, and with it, more RWBY Thoughts and Opinions! After the absolute roller coaster that was Volume 7's cliffhanger finale, I can not imagine the insanity that awaits us this Volume. So, without further ado, here are my various thoughts and opinions on Chapter 1 of RWBY Volume 8, "Divide"
SPOILERS BELOW:
Hmm, starting off with a mysterious woman scrubbing floors, and...wait, is that...no...
I really like the way they juxtapose Cinder scrubbing with her scratching the chair. Very symbolic.
Yick, something about organic architecture just gives me the willies. I mean, is the whale aware that they double as a building complex? Can they feel the diabolical ongoings of it's rib cage? Creepy stuff.
Oof, outright taking credit for grabbing the relic, Cinder? Yeah, no way that's going to bite you in the ass.
Oh my. Mercury, Emerald, AND Hazel have new looks this season. I'm sure I'll warm up to them eventually, but right now Emerald's and Hazel's aren't really doing this. For Hazel, the outfit is all right, but the hair is a bit boring compared to his originals. Mercury's is ok, but is it just me, or is he basically wearing Yang's V4-6 outfit? I mean, it works, but still.
"Without you, I am nothing." That...didn't sound like the first time she's said that. It almost sounds like something Salem's drilled into her head for years. Cinder may be irredeemable in my opinion, but I do love a good tragic backstory.
You know, I guess would make sense for the crater to be the slums area. Can't imagine living directly under a floating landmass would be considered prime real estate.
Ooh, this old man has badger paws. I don't think we've seen that kind of Faunus trait yet.
D'aaww, Nora gave Oscar a soft hug rather than her usual glomp. So cute ^-^
I'm interested in how Oscar not telling them about Oz is going to play out.
Ok, their is a lot going on in this bar-base worth talking about, but for some reason I am fascinated by the picture of (i'm assuming) the founders in the background. What interesting designs they have. I feel like they have a story, and I would like to hear it.
Penny's dejected demeanor is giving me all of the feels Q_Q
Not sure how I feel about the rift forming between RWBYJNRO, though I guess we'll have to see where it goes. At least we have people like Jaune playing mediator.
I will say, though, I look forward to seeing Ren and Nora apart. As much as I love them as a couple, I'd very much like to see them operate as individuals.
God, Ironwood trying to manipulate Penny like that.
And there it is. Ironwood has truly revealed his true feelings, and his motivation for his attempt to launch Atlas. He isn't making a tactical retreat in order to form a new plan altogether. He's abandoning the fight altogether, leaving Remnant to die so that he and Atlas can live. It's funny, he wanted to avoid becoming Lionheart, but he was a coward too.
"Everything that follows will be on your hands". That motherf-
You know, we don't see a lot of corpses on this show, do we? Penny got better, Amber's screentime ended as she died, Roman got eaten, Pyrrha got an express viking funeral, etc, and a lot of others were only corpses for seconds before we never saw them again. They did a good job selling how proper dead Clover is here.
Ok, I don't know squat about Hospital layouts. Is it normal to have the morgue right outside of an emergency room? I mean, I guess it saves some travel time should things go wrong, but still, seems like a great anxiety generator for the patient, especially with both rooms having windows. "That's where I'll be going next."
I like the new metal arm. The fact that you can see all of the internal stuff makes it feel like it was quickly put together for the sake of urgency, while still looking cool.
Man, that rendition of "Hero" in the background. Chilling.
Is Winter getting a new look already? I must say. I like the look of the braces, and the ponytail is a vast improvement over the bun.
JESUS H CHRIST IRONWOOD!!! I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING OUT THERE TO ARREST THEM!!! THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A PRETTY BIG FASCIST MOVE, RIGHT!? HE JUST SHOT CHAD JAMES IN THE FACE!!!
What really interests me is everyone's reactions. Elm and Marrow are incredibly shocked, Harriet and Winter share their little look of doubt, and then there's Vine who just...doesn't react at all. Either that or it's all in his eyes, which we can't really see from here. Either way, not a huge reaction from him. Methinks the Ace-Ops and Winter might be starting to doubt the horse they bet on.
I find it interesting that Salem doesn't know how the Relic works, but then I suppose it makes sense, seeing as Oz probably placed them into the vaults almost immediately after finding them, so this is probably the first time she's even seen one in person..
Ok, OP time, and buckle up, guys, gals, and nonbinary pals, because this one is going to be a doozy.
-First off, the song sounds pretty good, but it seems like it's going to go through the same cycle as the rest where it doesn't do too much for me at first, but has me headbanging like a metalhead by the end of the volume
- Mantle glitching out between peaceful and wartorn is a wonderful effect. Definitely fills you with a sense of dread.
-The individual shots of Team RWBY are absolutely gorgeous. Conceptually, it's the standard "where we started and where we're at", but the composition is worthy of a chef's kiss. I think I've found my new wallpaper.
-The Ace-Ops appearing on Clover's pin is nice, but what I find interesting is Harriet and Qrow appearing back to back, especially with Harriet looking so angry. Is Harriet going to double down on her loyalty to Ironwood and go after Qrow?
- It seems Robyn is going to be Qrow's main source of support this season, though the bars seem to suggest they might be in custody for a while.
-Oscar seems to be in Salem's stronghold, which doesn't bode well for our farmboy, also, WHY DOES SALEM HAVE DEMON WINGS!? Emerald's Volume 5 illusion wasn't this scary looking!
-I feel like their's symbolism showing Team RWBY's weapons paired together like that, but I feel like it's too early to say what of. Looks pretty, though
-Ren and Nora standing so far apart. It hurts my soul! Interesting how, while Ren looks away, Nora actually turns towards him.
-I didn't notice Winter's change of expression/outfit before passing by Weiss. She went from looking confident and slightly condescending to full with doubt.
-Not a lot to say about the quick shots of Whitley and Willow other then the fact that they both look worried. The image of the Schnee Snowflake shattering, however, is VERY interesting.
-I'm always a sucker for some good ol' chess symbolism. I find it interesting that while Salem's pieces dissolve into creatures of Grimm, Ironwood's simply dissolve, leaving him alone. Perhaps shooting a fellow councilman in the face right in front of his inner circle doesn't play out as well for him as well as he thought it would.
- Speaking of the classics, also gotta love me some reflection artwork. Watts seems to be working behind Pietro's back while Pietro (presumably) works to get Amity running, while secretly worrying about Penny, whose reflection cracks, possibly symbolizing her resolve. I worry for her.
- The snowflake turning into a flower petal in Ren's hand, while a similar petal passes Nora by. I don't know what this means, but I'm intrigued.
- It seems Ruby and Yang won't be completely be at odds, judging by the look they give each other before going into the action shot.
- Hmm, while Cinder pulls a Za Warudo on the fight scene, you can see a dejected Emerald and a pissed off Neo, still moving, among the heroes. Interesting...
-Almost as interesting as Cinder grasping her Grimm arm before being engulfed in flames. Perhaps Salem pulled a Wormtail's Silver Hand with that arm.
-Is this the first time we've seen the Staff of Creation in it's entirety? I remember wanting to include it and the Lamp in my RWBY Vol 7 spritesheet, but couldn't find any images of it's bottom half. I like the little jewel on the bottom.
-Wow, CRWBY went full Kingdom Hearts with the heroes falling through the ice, and I absolutely LOVE IT! This op has some of the most gorgeous visuals the series has ever seen.
-HAPPY EVER AFTER
HAPPY? NEVER AGAIN
Daaaaaaamn, that's awesome. It kind of reminds me of a line from Red Like Roses Part II, "This bedtime story ends with Misery Ever After". It's incredibly haunting.
-Almost as haunting as the sketchy art style that flashes in between the words, particularly the part that shows Penny's eyes going red before the rest of her does. Did we predict Watts hacking Penny a volume too early?
-The final shot of Crescent Rose alone stuck in the snow. Damn. The theme of this op seems to be "foreboding as all hell"
Damn. Damn! DAMN! This was, without question, the best OP RWBY has ever had. By, like, a lot. The visuals were some of the best the show has ever had to offer, the foreboding is through the roof, and the symbolism is incredibly clever. I don't envy them when it comes time to make Volume 9's, because this will be a very tough act to beat. I am so happy to have RWBY back, and I am both excited and terrified to see what this show is going to do next.

-Is this the first time we've seen the Staff of Creation in it's entirety? I remember wanting to include it and the Lamp in my RWBY Vol 7 spritesheet, but couldn't find any images of it's bottom half. I like the little jewel on the bottom.
-Wow, CRWBY went full Kingdom Hearts with the heroes falling through the ice, and I absolutely LOVE IT! This op has some of the most gorgeous visuals the series has ever seen.

Daaaaaaamn, that's awesome. It kind of reminds me of a line from Red Like Roses Part II, "This bedtime story ends with Misery Ever After". It's incredibly haunting.
-Almost as haunting as the sketchy art style that flashes in between the words, particularly the part that shows Penny's eyes going red before the rest of her does. Did we predict Watts hacking Penny a volume too early?
-The final shot of Crescent Rose alone stuck in the snow. Damn. The theme of this op seems to be "foreboding as all hell"
Damn. Damn! DAMN! This was, without question, the best OP RWBY has ever had. By, like, a lot. The visuals were some of the best the show has ever had to offer, the foreboding is through the roof, and the symbolism is incredibly clever. I don't envy them when it comes time to make Volume 9's, because this will be a very tough act to beat. I am so happy to have RWBY back, and I am both excited and terrified to see what this show is going to do next.

Making Your Own Runes
Hi guys! Today I wanted to share with you a post on how I made my own runes. Step by step with pictures. It’s a bit long, so be ready.
A while back I was looking for the perfect Rune set to buy, but couldn’t really find one that catched my attention. After several attempts, I decided to gave up. I went to this really cool crystal shop in my city and while browsing every corner I realized that there were flat crystals of each kind. So I bought 25. Choosing from my favorite crystals and unknown ones.
I went home and my rune journey began
STEPS:
1. Clean your crystals!
Not only I bought the 25 tiny flat precious crystals, I bought some other stuff too, so I cleaned them all together. To get rid of any unwanted energy that they might had absorbed in the store.
I have a pretty specific ritual on cleaning my crystals. I use several herbs because of their proprieties. So I’m gonna share it white you
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Sage
- Chamomile
- Salt (I also use pink salt, but you can only use regular one if you want)
- Flame vine
- Thyme
- 1 Cocoa nibs
- 1 bowl with water
- your magic wand
2. Put your crystals in the bowl and fill it with water.
Remember that the water must cover all of the crystals for them to cleanse properly.
3. Add your herbs
Sprinkle the grinded herbs and cocoa in the bowl. Add some of the flowers. And stir it up with the tip of your wand, deosil. (I normally recite this words while stirring the water “clean above, so as below, cleanse this crystals for positive to grow”)
You should leave the crystals cleaning in the water for up to 24hrs. I place them outside or near a window so the moon light can cleanse them too.
4. Write their meanings in your Book of Shadows
While the crystals are in the water I did some extra research about the Runes. Each Rune has more than one meaning to it, that’s why I saw relevant to dedicate some pages of my BoS to them. Nevertheless, I didn’t want them to take that much space. So I came up with this idea
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Piece of paper
- Pensil and sharpie
- Scissors
- Envelope or small brown bag
In a separate piece of paper I drew 25 ovals (for the 24 runes + the blank one that is Lisel”)
I drew the rune and the name in front. In the back I wrote the meanings of each rune, dividing each of them in two for their upside down meanings. Then proceed to cut them.
5. Paint your crystals
After the 24hrs you should decide which rune will be in each crystal. Take in mind the size of each, and how “complex” the rune can be.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Black paint
- White paint
- Tiny brush
Decide which runes you’re going to paint black, and which ones you’re going to paint white.
6. Paint them all
Pretty obvious step, lol. Just don’t forget to leave one rune blank, for Lisel.
I decided my obsidian will be Lisel.
7. Let them dry
I placed all of my cuts in a table, and put each rune over their significant paper. So I could make sure I didn’t forgot any.
8. Put them away
I found a small black sack to put my runes in it. I recommend something fluffy or with a soft texture so that won’t harm your crystals.
Remember to take them with you for a 15-30 day period. This way you’ll fill them with your energy. And they will get use to all of your vibes and surroundings.
9. Put your paper cuts away
Don’t forget to put away your paper cuts in your envelope. I keep the envelope inside my Book of Shadows 🤗 this way they won’t get lost and it’s a pretty easy access point for me to grab them whenever I’m reading the runes. Of just want to take them somewhere along with the sack.
That’s pretty much it to how I made my runes. I love them because they are aesthetically pleasing and they’re made with my favorite crystals. Also by making them you put more of your energy and vibes into them. So this helps a lot whenever you’re using them.

Ranking David Rose’s sweaters in Season 2 of Schitt’s Creek
That’s right, I’m not stopping.
In case you missed it, Click here to see my season 1 rundown of the best in David Rose sweater fashion . And by best of, I mean every sweater he wore, because who can choose only a few?
But now we’re onto season two, where we’ve increased in number from 14 to 17 (just wait for season 3- it’s probably going to be broken into two posts), the fashion is getting a tiny bit wilder, and my despair at the emptyness of my bank account grows as I covet more and more of these sweaters.
Onwards to Season 2: Still not sick of black and white sweaters
A recap of the rules: I only rank each sweater once, even if it shows up in multiple episodes. I only look at what can be loosely described as a sweater- no button-ups, no t-shirts, no jackets. Cardigans count. Unfortunately, this means no amazing leather jacket from the first episode, no Don’t t-shirt, no hunting outfit, no pajamas, no baseball uniform in later seasons. Yes, I know, this hurts me too. But this is about my love for mainly black and white sweaters, so Here. We. Go.
First up, two quick honorable mentions to this jacket and suit because I just really like them, but they’re not sweaters, so they don’t count.

This one was hard to make any of the details out on because it is such a solid matte black, but it has gathered fabric around the neck and all other details just blend in. (S02E05)

This is probably by a famous designer, but all it looks like to me is the Detroit Tigers logo, and something about the off white of the inset square clashing with the cream of the stripes makes this a little off putting to me. (S02E02)

Just in case you were worried after reading the season 1 post that there wouldn’t be a black sweater with only one part covered in a shiny faux leather (see elbow patch or shoulder patch sweaters), you can breathe easy as this season we have the entire front of the sweater covered in shiny material. It’s a little much, and doesn’t really go with those pants. (S02E10)

I kept tabbing through pages of my spreadsheet swearing that I had seen this sweater in the first season, but it turns out David just has like two short sleeve shirts with stars on them as well. This is just okay. (S02E09)

I must have flipped this shirt with the #10 choice 5 different times making this post. I like them both, but this one ended up just a hair worse just because we only saw David wearing it while riding a bike and I couldn’t get a true sense of fit. (S02E04)

At first I wasn’t sold on this sweater, but then I noticed the subtle pattern on the black neckline portion, and now I want it very badly. (S02E04)

While it reminded me a bit of the white/blue sweater that topped the S1 list, this sweater that closed out the season didn’t leave as lasting of an impression with me. It’s a bit of a Rorschach Test on the eyes- I see a weird cat man in the middle. What do you see? (S02E13)

The length of this is really working for David (and for me). I thought it was going to be near the bottom as I watched the episodes to take screenshots, but it really grew on me, and it’s another one I really want. (S02E06)

I love a fun geometric pattern, although I kind of wish it covered the whole sweater? Or maybe not, that might be too much. I really like it as is though. (S02E03)

Numbers 6 and 5 were also incredibly close, but I ended up putting this tie-dyed sweater just a little bit lower because it reminded me of when tie-dye got cool for roughly six months when I was in high school and then I had about 10 shirts that I never wore again outside of volleyball practice. Believe it or not, it took until the second season to get to a sweater that has words on the front. I love this a lot (although not enough to pay 160 actual dollars to buy it). Please Dan, bust this back out in the fifth season with Patrick. (S02E01)

I still love a good colorblocked sweater, even if there’s really no color to it. The shiny chevron that leads to two different colored sleeves works and I really hope this one comes back someday (maybe paired with a button up?) (S02E11)

Much like season one, there is a black/white fuzzy striped sweater right near the top, but couldn’t quite reach number one again. This looks so, so comfortable and got a bonus point for being the sweater in which David learns how to fold in the cheese. (S02E02)

It’s so ridiculous that it works, and lends itself to one of the most iconic Schitt’s Creek images. (PS, if you haven’t seen the WindowsXP wallpaper that the official twitter account made yesterday with this image, go to their twitter now. I made it my phone wallpaper and it brings me so much joy every time I see it). I know Dan has talked about how this was his dream piece of wardrobe to get onscreen, and you can see why. Who would have thought that you could put a mohawk on a sweater? Also, I know the sunglasses aren’t a sweater, but they add so much to the look, it’s perfect. While I wouldn’t wear this ever, part of me wants to own it just for the absurdity. (S02E01)
And that’s another season down! What were your favorites? No color to be found at all this season- the flower sweater from the finale is probably the closest to actual color. To be honest, I think I might have liked the group from season 1 better on the whole than the season 2 group, but I can NOT wait for season 3. There are some amazing sweaters coming.

New Year with the band; Queen x reader
Hello people of Tumblr and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I was hoping to have had this done last night but time got away from me so I finished it this morning and so for my first fic of 2019 I present to you another part of my Rock Angel series. This is a pre-Rock Angel fic right here so this is counted before “Set it all free” when you the reader are still the intern to Miami. And after seeing Bohemian Rhapsody for the 2nd time last night, I just had to do this fic and I may have another chapter up soon, hopefully. Anyways I hope 2019 is a great year for everyone and that everyone stayed safe after last night and are taking care of themselves post-New Year celebration.

This has been a crazy three months and here I am in Freddie Mercury’s house with a whole bunch of strangers plus the rest of the band and their wives to ring in the New Year. Of course Adam didn’t want to come even though I tried to convince him to come, but he said that he was just too cool to be around a band like Queen.
It was 15 minutes till midnight and 1981 would soon be here. I was at the food table trying to get a second plate of brownies and basically fill up on sugar to keep myself awake. Most of the people were already hammered beyond anything else so I had to walk over some of their unconscious bodies till I finally reached the guys.
“Ahh there’s our best girl!” Freddie praised at he held his glass up almost as if he were giving a toast.
“Oh stop it Fred, I literally just saw you five seconds ago.”
“Five very long seconds.” He whined as I playfully shoved his shoulder.
“Isn’t that your second batch of sweets already?” asked Brian.
“Sugar keeps me up, otherwise I’d be asleep in the corner hours ago after all that I’ve been through this semester.” I said.
“But I thought you loved us? Guess we were nothing but a stress factor to you then huh?” Deacy snapped clearly teasing me as I noticed a glimmer of mischief in his eyes.
“No, no, no, no don’t you guilt me Deacy! You know I love you guys! This has literally been the best semester I’ve had, I just can’t believe in a couple more months I’ll be done and then I won’t see you guys till your next tour before Miami clears my internship credit.”
“I can’t believe you’ll be leaving us after our tour, I feel like you should stay here with us even after the tours done. I’d miss you too much darling.” Freddie said as he leaned over and hugged me close to him before kissing my cheek.
“In all seriousness love, maybe you should cut back on the sweets, you’ll crash faster if you keep eating sugar, take some of these,” he then handed me a couple of his celery sticks and baby carrots. I looked at him with a ‘seriously’ look as I said.
“Really? Veggies Bri?”
“Less you want cavities for the new year I suggest you eat those. Otherwise I’ll have Dr. Taylor here take a look at your mouth since he studied dentistry.”
“Wait for real?” I asked as I turned around and faced him.
“This whole time we’ve known each other and you never once bothered to listen to what I did in school. Really (y/n) what kind of friend are you?” Roger said in a mocked hurt tone. I threw my baby carrot at him which made all of us laugh and we continued to chat till the midnight hour drew closer.
Time sure does go by when you’re having fun with friends because now as everyone gathered to watch the ball drop live from New York City. We were just 2 minutes away to ring in the New Year and as everyone began the countdown, the anticipation was growing as it got closer and closer.
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
“HAPPY NEW YEAR!!” Everyone cried out as horns were blown, confetti was thrown in the air and couples kissed each other to ring in the New Year. Bri, Rog and Deacy kissed their wives to celebrate the new year, Freddie was off god knows where by now meanwhile I just sat there alone.
I sure wish Adam was here to ring in the New Year. I mean he used to be romantic at first at the start of our relationship, always buying my flowers and leaving little poems every time he’d leave the flat, but now for some reason he thought the romantic gestures were too corny and lame for him all of a sudden, could threaten the new “Rock” image he’s been trying out.
So I secretly knew even if I did bring him, he wouldn’t go for a New Year’s kiss. Which sucked because the believer of romance that I am, I always thought sharing a kiss with the person you loved, meant you’d have a full successful relationship in the years to come.
At least that’s what I always saw in my parents every New Years.
I sighed solemnly and decided to stop out of the craziness of the party and just have a moment to myself. I sat along outside in the garden of Freddie’s house along the bench and just stared up into the sky.
“Happy New year mum and dad. I sure wish you could be here to see it.” I said to myself solemnly.
“Something wrong love?” I heard Deacy’s voice say. I turned around and saw the guys standing behind me all looking at me with concern.
“No, not really. At least anything serious.” I said.
“You sure?” They all came and sat around me. Deacy to my left, Brian to my right, Roger sitting in front of me and Freddie standing behind me with his hands on my shoulders every now and then squeezing them assuringly or massaging them.
“Yes, I promise guys nothing’s wrong just….missing my parents is all.”
“While we can see that’s true, there’s something else going on too. You got a little awkward once people started kissing each other, is this because of Arsehole?” Roger said. I looked at him and said.
“His name’s Adam Rog,”
“Is there a difference?” he questioned. I scoffed at him shaking my head softly.
“I don’t know guys, I thought that maybe I could for the first time get a New Year’s kiss with the first boy whom I’ve ever allowed into my heart ever since my parents died. Oh if only you guys first knew him you’d know he was romantic like you lot are, but lately he’s just called off anything that could damage his ‘badass hard rock exterior’. I don’t know, maybe I’m just a sap.”
“There’s nothing wrong with being a romantic. Neither gender should feel shame for being or hoping for a little romantic gesture in their life. Take me for example, the best guitarist of the greatest band. Makes his wife breakfasts in bed even when it’s not Mother’s Day or her birthday. I do it because I love her.” Brian said.
“And me, silent bassist John Deacon. I wrote ‘You’re my best friend’ for Veronica. Because that’s who she is and will always be to me. Not just the love of my life, but also my greatest and most treasured friend.”
“And even though we’ve broken off the engagement, Mary will still always be the love of my life. No matter what, which is why I wrote Love of my life for her, because that is who she is and will always be to me. Even though we’re no longer romantically involved with each other.” Said Freddie.
“And even though I’ve gained the reputation for ‘bad drummer boy of Queen’, for Dominque I’m willing to do anything for her. Whether its treating her to a spa day or even a day off from the kids.”
“And that’s what makes your wives and Mary so lucky to have met guys like you. I….just wish I had that guy now.”
“You will love, one day.” Deacy said as he gently placed his hand on the top of my shoulder and gently stroked it with his thumb.
“Until then you still got us, in fact.” Freddie cupped my face and had me look up at him and he kissed both my cheeks and continued, “Consider that your New Year’s kiss from me to you, darling angel.” I smiled up at him as he released my face from his hands. I then felt my head turn towards Deacy and he said.
“Happy New Year poppet, here’s my kiss from me to you.” He then kissed my temple before I felt him lean his face against mine giving me an additional butterfly kiss. He backed away as Brian said.
“Don’t forget about me,” I turned towards him and he cupped my face much like Freddie did. He first leaned in and gave me a soft Eskimo kiss as his forehead touched mine which always made me feel safe and loved. He then gingerly kissed the center of my forehead and it was then I turned to Roger.
He grinned up at me and said.
“You know the drill, get into these arms you little imp.” I grinned at him before getting off the bench and hugged Roger. His strong arms wrapped around me instantly giving me a big, warm bear hug as I liked to secretly call them.
I felt him repeatedly kiss the top of my head and felt him rub my back. But then I felt him starting to poke and lightly pinch around my sides, oh shit not again!
“Rog no!”
“No you’ve ended last year with a frown, when you should’ve been smiling. So that’s my first New Year’s resolution, to get you to smile.” He said with a mischievous grin as he kept tickling me. I squirmed around trying to escape Roger’s grip but it was iron clamped.
“Rog….stohahahp!”
“Nah I don’t think so.” He said as he kept tickling me.
“You know Rog, I think you and I are sharing the exact same resolution.” Deacy say.
“No! Nohohoh Deacy don’t…..NOO!!” Soon I had both Roger and Deacy tickling me.
“For being total opposites, seems they’ve agreed on one thing.” I could hear Brian say.
“Indeed.” Stated Freddie.
“But who says they get to have all the fun?” suggested Brian. As I kept trying to escape from both Rog and Deacy, suddenly I felt four more pair of hands start to tickle me.
“Guhahahahys stohahahahhap you’re kihihihihlling me!!!”
“Will you start off the New Year with a smile little angel?” Freddie asked.
“YES!! YEHEHEHESS!! JUST PLEHEHEHEASE STOHAHAHP!!” And with that the tickling ceased. I panted heavily trying to regain my breathing and I said, “You guys are devils I swear.”
“Well that was rather rude darling.” Freddie said.
“Does that require punishment lads?” Brian asked.
“I say it does.” Stated Roger.
“Agreed.” Said Deacy. The four of them looked at me ready to start tickling me again when I shouted.
“No! No! No! No! No I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Okay I’m sorry I surrender!” They all smirked at me laughing softly. I then looked at them and said, “Thanks for cheering me up though guys.”
“No problem love, we’re always here for you when you need us.” Brian said as he gently stroked my hair.
“Happy New Year, my four best boys.”
“Happy New Year, our little rock angel.” Freddie said. I smiled at them and I went up to them and the four of them brought me to the center once more but instead of a tickle attack, it was a Queen group hug.
1980 was a roller coaster year for me, but the best thing that came out of it was the fact that a girl like me, an ordinary college intern music student got to call the biggest band in all of History, my family.
Hell I can’t even imagine what 1981 was going to bring that could make this year seem just like any ordinary year.

Days 8 & 9 –
Yes, I’m still alive. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice my pictures and writings didn’t post. Fortunately, Tumblr saved the pictures I wanted to share, but it dropped about half of what I wrote.
On Wednesday, our class debriefed a bit more from Davines and started working on an exercise to incorporate what we knew about the company and its sustainability goals into a marketing campaign for their new product: a single shampoo. This shampoo comes in a very minimalist bottle with a very interesting quote on the front: “I went in search/ of a bad person;/ I found none as I,/ seeing myself,/ found me the worst”, and I took this quote to heart, and channeled a Patagonia advertisement called “Don’t Buy this Jacket”. I was very proud of my original advert and got a comment from Nora later that night; both she an Vincent were enthralled at how I made the very disconnected quotation on the front connect to the marketing of the product and Davines’ own shortcomings with reaching 100% sustainability.
Later that night, we took a bus to the small town of Valdagno, home to the Marzotto Corporation and birthplace of Italia Innovation co-founder, Marco. Marco gave us a tour of the old city, and the new “Social City” constructed by Marzotto during the 1910’s-40’s. Something he noted, and admitted, was that the town and company were both able to grow during this time, despite larger economic hardship, due to providing military uniforms for European powers.
It was interesting that a company so focused on textile production built educational facilities with no connection back to the company, and that would take students into other industries. No concrete answer was ever given for this, but my personal thoughts were that Marzotto used things like the engineering and music schools to attract more high-level talent and provide worker’s families with additional extracurricular activities to boost employee morale.
The company hit its peak in the 1980s and 90s, eventually owning Lanerossi, Hugo Boss, Nova Mosilina, and Fila, though due to (I assume) infighting in the family, these brands were eventually spun off, leading to the loss of 9,000 jobs in the region. Today, the small garment factory and textile factory only employ roughly 1,000 people, though we learned about 300 of those will be shifting to part-time work. Despite this, at a town hall on economic and social innovation we attended, almost everyone seemed to clap for the CEO – more on this later.
We took a quick water and wine break before meeting with the Mayor, and his goals for his town seemed to reflect those of both other smaller Italian cities and those that former US manufacturing hubs had. Part of his town’s problem stemmed from the fact Marzotto still owned all manufacturing assets they built, even if they were disused and in disarray. Likewise, the Italian economic crash lead to the national government helping itself to town’s rainy day funds, leading to a contraction of public employees and services. In fact, of 230 or so employees, the city had to fire 100 over the course of a few years. Furthermore, due to the burden of caring for the social city after Marzotto stopped funding these services, the effort of providing the same quality of life as 30 years ago has strained political and economic resources.
The most interesting thing we learned from the mayor is that young people made up the majority of his base, as he’s poured more funds into education and established a council (or process of) grievances for underaged citizens. He was still worried, when asked, that even with these steps, children would leave for bigger cities and more opportunities, especially as the youth unemployment rate rises in Italy. Interestingly enough, the older rate of unemployment has remained relatively unaffected despite the drop in Marzotto staff.
After dinner, we were invited to a town hall panel that included Vincent and Debra, but also had a writer from The Economist and Marzotto’s CEO, Giorgio. All of us were shocked at the warm welcome Giorgio received and the applause he got when introduced. This was increased when we learned of his disconnect with the people of Valdagno and how he views economic and environmental initiatives outside of Italy as the bread-and-butter of his operation. He delivered a canned speech containing a video and PowerPoint, with both focusing on social improvements in Czech factories and environmental initiatives in Australia and New Zealand. All of us students, and even Debra were horrified by his behavior during the panel, and I think we were too shocked to ask questions. This town hall stretched late into the night, and we got home at a little after midnight.
The next morning, we took a bus back to Parma and visited the world’s largest pasta factory – Barilla Parma. I saw a package of my favorite cookie, Pan di Stelle, on their display in the conference room and everyone from Barilla was shocked that a white kid from America was addicted to these cookies, and I was shocked we were going to have a presentation on their social and environmental initiatives around cocoa-producing communities.
We viewed several videos on their environmental and sustainability initiatives, then went for a tour of the pasta plant. Unfortunately, for both hygiene and corporate-secret reasons, I was not allowed to bring my phone onto the production floor, but everything was incredibly automated, delicately balanced, and delicious. Yes, you can eat raw, not-yet-firm pasta, and much was eaten. I considered this my “free sample”.
We learned that despite the increase in automation, none of the 100 workers on the plant floor were laid-off, but that all were retrained and that production doubled, leading to a 3-year payback period for the entire suite of upgrades. (Please watch this video on the cool robots: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkoiiS81goU) What was even more interesting was that even the 60-or-70 year old drying machines could still be used, and that they looked as new and as beautiful as the modern machines on the line next to them.
After the tour, we had lunch with their Head of Sustainability, some members of the marketing and HR teams, and a member of the Barilla family and ate some amazing ass pasta. And not just pasta, they had bread and fruit and meat – all things they championed through their “don’t diet, eat in moderation” campaign.
This campaign actually lead to an interesting discussion between Andy and I on how they could advertise the Mediterranean diet as the diet of moderation, but still produce delicious and addicting cookies. While not 100% solved, the aforementioned Pan di Stelle cookies have 37.4 Calories per cookie, which is less than the 53.3 per Chips Ahoy cookie. It also has fewer carbs (5g v 7.3g), less fat (1g v 2.6g), and even has some protein from the nuts used. On top of all this, the Pan di Stelle cookie is simply more filling, and so, one eats less of it. This is how we wrapped our heads around how a conglomerate like Barilla and its brands could justify making a detrimental product and advertise to basically, not eat it. People who enjoy it aren’t addicted like in America.
The social and environmental work they do seems to focus on the impacts of individual product lines rather than the whole company – Pan di Stelle helps farmers diversify crops and return back to polycropping with Bananas in addition to Cocoa, and also provides wells and educational facilities in regions they purchase from. The main pasta ingredient, wheat, now is required to be grown on fields that participate in crop rotation and that dedicate 3% to natural flowers and vegetation for beneficial insects, while also requiring a reduction in fertilizer and uses satellite and sensor imaging to determine what wheat is best for the planet and ourselves.
After a long day at Barilla, we returned back to Verona and had a late night in just drinking wine and making really good sandwiches with lunch meat we bought from the supermarket down the street.

Heather Says: So. I never thought that my favorite fic of the entire year would be a fic written about a song - and one that I don’t even particularly like - but here I am. I read this fic the same night that I finally broke down and watched Moonlight, and ended up listening to Moonlight’s End Credits and Hello Stranger by Barbara Lewis on repeat while I finished that first chapter on my back porch. This is that perfectly atmospheric fic that you’ll find maybe once every ten years and could probably sustain you on its memory for just as long.
2. Work of All Saints by @kaikamahine | Coco | Imelda/Hector/Ernesto | 210k
Imelda Rivera (b. 1899 - d. 1969), a story that includes but is not limited to: the finest music school this side of the Santo Domingo, three traveling musicians and the mess they made of love, the twice-cursed assassination of Venustiano Carranza, all the patron saints, and ninety-six ways a man can try to cross a bridge.
Heather Says: This story blew my entire mind. It was lovely, and tragic, and hilarious, and everything that a good novel should be. The parts of this fic that map out the unseen lives of Imelda, Hector, and Ernesto, that hidden backstory that a movie can only hint about, were exquisite to the point that I was afraid getting to the point where, well, they die, would be a letdown. It really wasn’t. If anything, the story managed to get richer as it went along, until suddenly you’re in a room sobbing into a pillow at four in the morning and have to be awake in four hours. No regrets.
3. Under the Covers by @toast-ranger-to-a-stranger | Stranger Things | Billy/Steve | 87k
Steve is (maybe) a little bit still in love with Nancy Wheeler and (maybe) trying to figure himself out-- between the night terrors and the babysitting and the general weirdness that is Hawkins, Indiana-- before he graduates.
Billy Hargrove fits in there somewhere (probably).
Heather Says: Under the Covers was the first Harringrove fic that actually kicked me over the edge from ‘eh this ship looks like it would have good hate sex’ and into full-fledged believer. It’s an intricately crafted look into the world of Billy Hargrove and Steve Harrington post-season two and it is absolutely glorious.

Vampire hunter and a vampire try to get along.
Heather Says: Written before season two came out, this was one of those fics that I clicked on because the pairing interested me and I wanted to see how it worked. It did not disappoint, and even after I delved through the tag on ao3 after I marathoned season two, this is still my favorite.

Heather Says: You know all that fanart that started cropping up after Death of the Outsider came out? This fic scratches the same itch that all that art did.

Heather Says: I read this fic on a slow day at work, often in quick bursts while I was waiting for the kitchen to finish my table’s food. It’s short. It’s sweet. It’s perfect. And honestly? It’s everything that I was looking for when I ventured into the Coraline tag on ao3 because I was curious.

Heather Says: Fun fact, I’m not even in this fandom. I haven’t touched the Transformers fandom since the first movie came out in 2007 and I spent a very confusing week shipping a boy and his car. But Astolat has literally never lead me wrong, and I was having one of those bored days where nothing quite itches the right spot, so I sat down on the couch and spent two hours reading this. Worth it.

Also, you know, this fic is absolutely lovely and was just what the doctor ordered.

Heather Says: I coped with Pacific Rim 2 by reading a couple AUs and a couple very, very long fics full of tragedy and math. Weirdly, the AU of a chance meeting in a bar was the one that stuck.

Heather Says: Yeah, okay, but this is the fic that made summer worth it. Highly recommend reading at the pool or with your feet hanging off the back porch. Every piece of this fic was dripping in summertime nostalgia. It was fan-freaking-tastic.

Wherein Damien and Mark are soulmates, and this changes enough.
Heather Says: I think I’ve read this one three or four time this year? It’s 22k of well-written fic for a fandom that has a max of like 100 fics all with lengths that tend to vary between a couple hundred words to 2 or 3k, max. This fic is the one that really catapulted me into the fandom.

It’s March and it’s too cold for Billy to be shirtless and wearing shorts, but he hadn’t noticed until Harrington appeared and made him hold still. Harrington can’t seem to stop looking at the bruises. “What’s it to you if I miss a little school, Harrington?” Billy asks. He feels goosebumps rising on his skin.
“I don’t know,” Harrington snaps back, looking uncomfortable. He shifts his weight from one foot to the other. Plant your feet, Billy wants to scream at him. I’m going to bowl you over.
Heather Says: And here we have the first fic that wasn’t written by either @toast-ranger-to-a-stranger or @brawlite that made me realize that this fandom was gonna be a good one. So fantastic.

Heather Says: I remember a couple years ago, I fell absolutely head over heels for this one Sterek fic where Derek had twin toddlers and Stiles was the hired babysitter. So I think there’s something about dad + babysitter fics that get me, even if this one in particular the ‘baby’ in question is a fifteen year old genius. Still. Dad + babysitter. I don’t even know, but apparently it works for me.

“I’m not doing it on purpose.” Mark's heart pounds in his ears and he sees Damien’s hands shaking. God. They shouldn’t have started talking about sex. Shouldn’t have filled in the colors and shadows to this pencil outline of a sketch forming between them. They shouldn’t have given it a name.
Heather Says: This year seems to have had a theme when it comes to fics that I’ve liked and it seems to boil down to: people who are bad for each other have sex and catch feelings. Mark/Damien is not the healthiest ship. But it also hurts in this stupidly tragic way and hell if I didn’t fall head over heels for it.

Just because the timeline has been restored, doesn't mean things are back to normal. Cisco's got 99 problems, and Harry Wells is approximately 38 of them.
In which Cisco makes a bunch of plans, fails most of them, narrowly avoids being disintegrated, receives a hug or two, finds his groove, and gets his man. More or less in that order.
Heather Says: This one was long and wibbly wobbly, because it was basically what season 3 should have been. But it was also really great, and had some super quality Harrisco interactions.
19. Your Pretty Little Heart by Ever-so-reylo | Star Wars | Reylo | 64k
Modern day AU in which Ben is an Alpha, Rey is an Omega, and they are way better at having sex than at communicating with each other.
Heather Says: Speaking of people who are probably a little bit bad for each other... This particular fic was new to me, not because of the um, extensive sexual content, but because I’m usually not a fan of A/B/O. But this one was extremely good, enough that I actually liked it for a/b/o aspect rather than in spite of it.

Heather Says: This fic actually prompted a 3 hour long conversation on the ‘adult’ Mark/Damien discord where we basically outlined an entire fic that I never got around to writing where Damien is raising a child, has a farm, and runs into Mark ten years down the ride. One day, I might write it, because vaguely domestic, meet-again-ten-years-down-the-road fics always bowl me right the fuck over and just. There needs to be more fic like this one in the world. But until then, the world can marvel at the beauty that is this one.
21. Artifice by buttpatrol | Wolf 359 | Hera/Eiffel | 23k
A story told in parts about colour palettes, identity, robot uprisings, sensational trials, space, and messy love.
Heather Says: As I’ve recently finished relistening to Wolf 359 I have a fresh appreciation for this fic, which is one of the only longer fics on ao3 that just grips you by the heart and squeezes the same way that the series does. It might have been written before the end of the series, but it’s honestly just as perfect.

Heather Says: I’m kind of cheating here, because this is a series rather than a single fic, but I’m not picking just one part. I read the first four or so parts of this fic when I was visiting my family in South Carolina and spent the next few days wandering around the place half-in Steve Harrington’s headspace. It was an incredibly surreal experience, which lead to a pretty strong combination of mania, depression, and an indescribable craving for ice cream. So like, maybe don’t read this fic if you’re in a bad head space? But also it’s very good and features one of the most fucked up and intriguing Steve’s that I’ve seen yet.

Heather Says: I actually read this one on the plane ride down to South Carolina, and kind of didn’t like it at first? I’m not sure if it was just the act of putting Yuuri and Victor into the position of rivals that made me uncomfortable or the goddamn delays that turned half a day of travelling into a full one, but eventually I was able to get into and enjoyed it quite a bit. I really like the rivals to lovers trope, so I’d been looking forward to this one a lot.

Heather Says: I’ve become very fond of astolat’s Jaime/Brienne fics, and I think this one is my favorite yet. Featuring Starks, found family, and a whole lot of walking.

Novel Prep Tag
Big thank to @stardustandnightsky for the tag! I did Heart to Heart before, so now I’ll do All Our Painted Colors. I’m super pumped about the world building for this story, I’m having so much fun with it.
More super cool stuff under the cut, long post is long.
General Guidelines: Answer the questions and then tag as many writers as you can or want to.
FIRST LOOK
1. Describe your novel in 1-2 sentences (elevator pitch)
(Still working on the full plot outline, but I do have some concept stuff to share.)
At 15, Teva is the oldest of the tribe’s children to not hear The Call, no matter how hard she tries; with the legend of the Wanderer - a man who was exiled for being in Teva’s position - looming over her, there is even more pressure on her to do the impossible. As the day of her sister’s wedding approaches, Teva must make a choice: wait for the tribe to kick her out, or take matters into her own hands and forge her own path.
2. How long do you plan for your novel to be? (Is it a novella, single book, book series, etc.)
Just one for now. If I figure out how to expand it I’ll consider more in a series, a la Discworld.
3. What is your novel’s aesthetic?
Earned sunburns, thick flaking body paint, cliff diving, wide open plains, campfire storytelling, local legends come to life, rain-soaked soil, tall clay pots.
And, to quote directly from the story, the most aesthetic thing I’ve written in my life:
His home is full of the smells of seasons, divided into shades and hues. Jugs of dusky petals lay before shelves of vibrant stone that stole its color from the long sky. Patches of blooming grasses grow from the sun-soaked holes in the walls. Pots stacked as tall as my father hold what comes before the dyes and stains. Sarevo smells of sea and land and sky, all competing for his favor. They mix in brief moments of peace until he moves and I am struck by sea-salted summers and soft floral chills. In his home, the seasons exist as one.
4. What other stories inspire your novel?
Polynesian history and myth, the Codex Alera, super old oral storytelling traditions, and all sorts of ritual/spiritual practices. Basically, stories in general. This story is about stories. #meta

MAIN CHARACTER(S)
6. Who is your protagonist?
Teva! She’s 15 at the beginning of the story. She is a younger sister, a stubborn artist, and extremely dedicated to her people and their traditions, unafraid of outside danger, and eager to confront the uncomfortable.
7. Who is their closest ally?
She has two: Sarevo, her teacher and mentor, and her sister, Keema. Keema and Teva are very close, like twin-close, and are crazy supportive of each other and their stupid ideas. Sarevo is uncommonly understanding among the people of their tribe, and was the second person to believe in Teva’s promise as a ritualist (Keema was the first, of course).
8. Who is their enemy?
Well... herself. And the stories that made her believe the way she does. Technically, the Elders, too. If you wanna get very technical.
9. What do they want more than anything?
She desperately wants to belong somewhere that will accept her for her whole self. Unfortunately, she believes she has to go a long way to find that somewhere.
10. Why can’t they have it?
#society. But, really, she’s her own worst enemy. The one thing she can’t do is the one thing she thinks the tribe will abandon her for. It’s a personal/societal culture clash. Her people will exile her if she can’t connect, and she can’t connect because she’s afraid of exile.
11. What do they wrongly believe about themselves?
Teva thinks she’s broken, and that no amount of help will get her to where she thinks she needs to be. And that she’s totally alone because no one understands her.
12. Draw your protagonist! (Or share a description)
Here’s a better version of the pic I have on the AOPC character page. Fun fact, this picture is what inspired me to make the world and write its story in the first place.
PLOT POINTS
13. What is the internal conflict?
Teva thinks she’s broken, the worst person ever, and has some self-hatred issues at first. Her sister is getting married and won’t live with her or spend time with her anymore, her parents are always away on gathering trips, the elders don’t believe her, and after the events at the beginning of the story, no one in her tribe wants to even touch her. She thinks she’s a monster like the stories say she should be.
14. What is the external conflict?
Culture clash, enforcing certain stories over others, using stories to control people, where do you go when your world doesn’t want you, that whole protag vs. the world thing.
15. What is the worst thing that could happen to your protagonist?
Hm... if people refuse to acknowledge her existence. It happens a few times in the story and every time, Teva breaks a little bit more and it hurts me. She’s a questioner, a learner, and very stubborn. Even though it looks like she’s fine, there comes a point when even the smilers forget how.
16. What secret will be revealed that changes the course of the story?
What the rude Elder’s deal is and why she’s so distantly concerned with Teva’s plight. It’s significant.
17. Do you know how it ends?
I know where it ends emotionally. That’s about it, though.
18. What is the theme?
Make your own self worth. Stories have great capacity for change. Just because no one else sees the way you do, doesn’t mean you aren’t who you know you are. Don’t define yourself by another person’s dictionary. Art is a tool of the artist, not a slave.
19. What is a recurring symbol?
Paint is a biggie. Colors, too. And the concept of rituals, and what they’re used for. And maybe birds. Teva’s culture is symbolism heavy.
20. Where is the story set? (Share a description!)
So I originally made this tribe/culture/area/world for my homebrew DnD game, wrote a story about it for class, and then my players moved out of the state. So I got a fair bit of world building done for it and decided to make it a book.
Teva’s village is in an area called the Painted Cliffs. They’re named for the layers of sediment that make the cliff face look like those bottles of multi-colored sand. The buildings are laid out in a lollipop formation around a huge unlit bonfire, with one end opening to the cliffs and the other capped by the Elders’ Longhouse, where all the tribe’s elder leaders live. To the east/north is a mountain range where they send expeditions to collect flowers, herbs, and various other materials for painting and crafting. To the west is a great wide plain that is as vast as the sea to the south. Her people are pretty isolated from the rest of the world, but there are nomadic groups that wander the plains.
Paint and art is the pillar of her people’s culture. They paint themselves with important colors and patterns when they go to commune with the spirits, they paint their stories and history on the walls of their buildings, each member of the tribe places a hand print on the backs of a married couple during the wedding ceremony, and coming of age is marked by a young person painting their personal sigil (which is derived from what paint is left on your body after you cliff dive when you hear the Call) on the Namestone at the center of the village.
21. Do you have any images or scenes in your mind already?
The opening is already written and the second clearest image I have. The clearest scene is the inciting incident, when Teva makes a choice and goes against everything she thought made her world. Keema’s wedding is already written and it’s pretty cool, if I do say so myself.
22. What excited you about this story?
Cliff diving culture! Body paint as a ritual ceremony! Stubborn character who questions a lot of things and makes writing conflict easier! Making up myths, legends, stories, traditions, rituals, etc. for a whole new civilization! Oh man, the myths and traditions are so cool you guys. I love making myths and legends.
23. Tell us about your usual writing method!
Copying from the Heart to Heart post:
I get an idea that’s a little weird. Then I let it sit in my brain for like 3 months to make sure I’m interested, I can think of enough material to fill a story, and I feel like someone needs to read it. Then I think of a feeling I want my readers to have while reading this story or when they finish it. After that, I do concept work for a looooooong time. Like seriously, I have so many Scrivener documents full of rando rambling paragraphs of unused nonsense.
Characters come first, usually from a vague mental image, small action that rings true for a specific kind of person, or a line of dialogue I can only hear them say. Then I build around that, and adjust as the rest of the story/plot/other characters come together.
Then I think of the ending and the climactic scene. I work backwards. Ending usually comes first, then the Big Moment that gets there. This is when I playtest my characters. What choices do they make at this moment, how do those choices affect other characters’ choices, how do they affect the plot, and how do I get to the ending with maximum impact?
Beginnings are typically thought of in this part of the process, then I connect it and inevitably lose 80% of this work because I thought of a Thing that is Good and fits way better than my other stuff so I write from that point and finish the story in one big long writing session. As you can probably see, I am not a big planner. I like to think as I go, which is also how I edit.

Reflection
Day 1- Wasn’t too sure what to photograph today. I was heading into the city and while waiting for a train this caught my eye. I really liked the texture in this image and decided to take a photo of it. I wasn’t really planning on making this the first photo of my 30 day challenge but it was the only photo that I took today because I was quite busy and didn’t have time to take more photos.
Day 2- Went out to lunch with my friend and was struggling to find a scene to take a photo of so I asked my friend of mine if I could take an image of her walking up the stairs and this is how the photo turned out. I liked it because it look mysterious and grunge.
Day 3- After class, decided to go around the city exploring to see if there was anything that I found eye catching. On my way to the train station from uni, I saw a lot of graffiti and thought it’ll be interesting to photograph. I walked up the stairs and took a picture.
Day 4- Took this image of the moon on my dad’s camera. His camera was able to zoom really far so I tried to take a picture of the moon and it turned out pretty detailed. I also tried to do this on my own camera but it wasn’t able to zoom as far and the image didn't look as good as this one.
Day 5- I was really tired and just wanted to go home straight after going into uni. But I knew I needed to try take a photograph for the 30 day challenge so I took this quick photo while walking home from the train station.
Day 6- Took this image while waiting for my friend to finish her class in one of the AUT building. I really liked the colours and how they complemented each other so well so I decided to take a picture.
Day 7- I was sitting in the common room and saw this under the desk. I thought it was pretty funny so I decided to take a picture of it on my phone because I forgot to bring my camera into university that day.
Day 8- Took this image of the WE building on my way home. I really liked the structure of the building and thought it was super pleasing to look at. At this point I don’t feel that motivated to take images because I’m mostly just taking photos on my way home from university or going into the city. Tomorrow I’ll force myself to actually go out with my friends to actually try and take images.
Day 9 (missed a day)
On the 9th day I completely forgot to take a picture.
Day 9- Asked 2 of my friends from high school if they wanted to catch up. We they were happy for me to take pictures of them because they are dating and wanted more pictures of them together. I took this while we were walking up some stairs to get to a restaurant to eat at.
Day 10- Took this picture of a man’s shadow while visiting my friend in her apartment. I thought this shadow looked super interesting so I decided to take a photo of it.
Day 11- I went back to a spot where I had taken pictures before. I really like this image/scene because it looks really artistic and I liked how the people were casually walking through the scene while I was taking the image.
Day 12- Went to the same spot as yesterday and went with friends this time. I thought my photos for my 30 day challenge was lacking portraits or pictures of people so decided to ask my friends if they wanted to go out again.
Day 13- Asked one of my friends if she wanted to go out again. She didn't really want to because travelling all the way to the city from South Auckland can get pretty expensive and time consuming. Eventually I did convince her to go and we found another great spot to take a portrait. I told her to just act natural while I took a few photos and decided this was the best out of the bunch that I took today.
Day 14 (missed day)
Missed another day because I started to get kind of unmotivated. Going out every day to take pictures gets pretty repetitive and boring. I did feel super guilty though because I had already missed one day but I was just not feeling it but I told myself that I won't miss any more days from now on.
Day 14- Went out exploring the city and this building caught my eye. I loved how clean the building looked so I took a picture of it. I also took a few photos of a street lamp today but I didn't like how they turned out so I picked this one instead for my 30 day challenge.
Day 15- I really liked the composition of this image and how the buildings were placed. This image was quite hard to photograph because the sun light was seeping through those small gaps. Ended up taking 17 of the same image and this image ended up being the best. The others were either too overexposed or underexposed.
Day 16- While walking to the train station from university, this alleyway caught my attention because it looks quite sketchy and grungy. I guess the theme for my 30 day challenge would probably be somewhat grunge? or architecture? Not too sure yet.
Day 17- It’s my birthday today and my friends wanted to spend the whole day together. Ended up taking a bunch of photos of my friends but this one was my favourite because it looks super unplanned and candid. I also liked how the camera wasn't in complete focus.
Day 18- Was struggling to find an image to take so my friend told me to take a picture of her shoe. She literally stopped where we were talking and put her leg up onto this little ledge and said here, take a picture and this is how the image turned out. It’s not a super interesting image but taking a photo everyday does get quite hard.
Day 19- Went thrift shopping with a friend of mine and while looking at clothes, this mannequin caught my eye. I thought it looked super unique and abstract so I took a picture of it. This image was also quite hard to take a picture of because the lighting inside the room was really odd. It was bright but also dark and being a beginner at manual mode made it kind of hard to get it right.
Day 20- Decided to explore other parts of the city to try get some new pictures of different buildings. I’m not sure where this was, I was just walking around Myers park and ended up here. I didn't know this until now but I’m actually quite interested in architecture. This 30 day challenge is actually making me realise things and learn a whole lot of new skills.
Day 21- Was getting quite tired of going out every day to take pictures, I was going to just go somewhere close to home but wasn't happy with any of the photos I produced so I took a bus to the city and while I was on the bus I saw some window cleaners clean the windows of a building and I thought that looked cool so I got off the next stop and took a picture. I’m really happy with how the image turned out.
Day 22- I was walking to meet my friend at the park and while walking there a bunch of flowers sitting on the window sill caught my eye. I like how minimalistic it looked and how all you can see in the room is the flowers.
Day 23- Another image of a building that I found interesting to look at, I wasn't sure what else to take pictures of. I felt like I was taking too many images of buildings for my 30 day challenge but it’s what I was comfortable with so I decided to stick with that.
Day 24- Wasn’t sure what I was going to take a picture of today. Luckily, I bumped into one of my friends while walking home from university and decided to take a picture really quickly. I didn't put much effort into taking this one image but I actually really liked how it turned out. I actually like it more than most of the images I have taken for my 30 day challenge so far.
Day 25- Tried going to a new location, walked all the way to the viaduct from the train station to take pictures of the boats there but this looked a lot more interesting to me. I took a few photos at different angles and tried going closer and further away from the scene but this one ended up being my favourite out of all of them.
Day 26- went to the viaduct again because I was running out of places to take pictures at. Was going to take pictures of boats again but ended up taking a picture of this instead. I’m not too sure what this is but it looks like the beginning of a lighthouse which is pretty cool to me.
Day 27- At this point of the challenge I’m finding it super hard to take pictures of things I find interesting to look at. I looked up in a building I was in and liked the colours of it so I decided to take a picture of it. I’m not too happy with this image but it was the only image I took today so I guess I have to stick with it.
Day 28- Decided to call one of my other friends if I could take an image of her. I wasn't sure where to go to take a picture of her so I went to one of the locations I had already taken pictures at. This challenge was pretty fun but it does get quite hard to stay motivated to take pictures every day.
Day 29- I’m feeling super lazy today and decided to stay home. It was also quite a gloomy day but I went outside into my dad’s garden and took a picture of some of the branches. I’m quite happy with how the image turn out.
Day 30- Finally the last day of the 30 day challenge. Happy with what I had learnt but was also happy it was over. Overall, I learnt so much about manual mode and the challenge has also wired my brain to keep an eye out for things that would be interesting to photograph. It was a tough challenge but I’m super happy I did it.

Number 5 (Yuuma) has decided they want to completely change up their wardrobe and they take you shopping with them so you can give your opinions on what new outfits they should buy. What sort of clothes are you going to recommend? •Oh my goodness this would be so much fun- honestly, my mind goes back and forth from wanting to see him in nice black jeans with a nice collared blue and white checkered shirt, to ripped up jeans and a black leather jacket with his hair down. So, either cleaned up a little more than he already is, or total badboy ^^ 2. You walk into your room one day to find number 2 (Ayato) standing on your bed, dancing to your favourite song while wearing nothing but your favourite underwear. How do you react? •....Excuse me sir? What is this?? Those are my panties??? Also lol it would be very amusing to see him poorly try to sing Ariana Grande and her high notes heheh. But, well, I would be very confused and red and like what oml- 3. Number 7 (Laito) has to go to the dentist but they’re adamantly refusing. How would you persuade them to go? •...Can I get Misa to help me out with this one? She would be best to persuade him. Yeah, I would probably go get Misaki to come help me out -w- 4. You lose a bet with number 6 (Azusa) and now have to be their personal maid for a day. Do you go through with it or do you try to get out of it? •I would probably be going with it because I know Azusa wouldn’t do anything too bad with me. Okay, I would refuse parts of it probably if it involved hurting him or myself, but I wouldn’t mind sharpening knives? 5. Number 4 (Shuu) takes you to see a horror movie however they end up getting absolutely terrified halfway through and bury their head into your shoulder. How do you react? •At first I probably wouldn’t pick up on that he was scared and believe it was just him falling asleep as normal, but then I would probably realize it and feel absolutely horrible. That would be followed by gently stroking his hair and telling him that he’s going to be okay, and that I’m here for him. I’d probably also be panicking about this scary movie though- 6. Number 9 (Ruki) surprises you with a cake they’ve baked especially for you. Are you going to eat it? •Hell yes that cake is probably some really good fancy stuff. But maybe not, who knows? Although I know his cooking is excellent so I would very much enjoy it. I’d probably also ask if he wants to share it and such ^^ 7. Number 8 (Shin) accidentally manages to completely trash their room, to the point where it’s uninhabitable. They don’t have anywhere to stay while it’s being repaired and so they ask if they can room with you for the next couple of weeks. How do you respond? •If he comes and stays with me, he would have to stay on the couch. The only way he could probably get away with staying on my bed is if he was in his wolf form because I would just be like what a good boy and forget- 8. Number 1 (Subaru) has decided to learn how to play the trumpet. The downside to this is that, for some reason, they’ve taken to practicing right outside your room around the time you normally go to sleep. What are you going to do? •...Cry because it would break my heart to tell him no but also I wouldn’t be able to sleep so like yeah- I would probably put my earbuds in and play music there to fall asleep just to avoid crushing his dreams. 9. Number 10 (Reiji) recently purchased a cat onesie and they’ve insisted on wearing it everywhere over the past few days. They’ve now purchased a matching onesie for you and they’re being very insistent that you wear it and go out in public together. What do you do? •...First of all ask if he’s feeling alright?? That seems very... not like him. I would most likely wear the cat onesie anyway because I am obsessed with cats and love how comfy onesies are, but I don’t know if I would agree to do it in public. Although I might, just because Reiji can be very intimidating to me. 10. Number 4 (Shuu) is still scared after watching that horror film with you. It’s now late at night and they’re demanding that you let them sleep in your bed with you. What do you do? •Knowing me I would just be like “yeah go ahead come on in!” I’m naturally a really open and snuggly person in general, so I wouldn’t really mind at all. I would rather him be not scared. If he tried to make a move though idk how that would go- 11. Number 3 (Kou) confesses to you that they want to be an Olympic gymnast but struggle to even touch their toes. What sort of advice do you give to them? •Okay but like what- anyway, I would tell him to go for it and practice stretching. Everyone should be able to at least work on achieving their dreams ^^ 12. Number 7 (Laito) decides they want to paint a picture of you. They make you sit still for hours while they work on it, only when they finally reveal it to you, the image bears absolutely no resemblance to you. They ask you for your opinion, what do you say? •... Knowing Laito, it bETTER NOT BE A SITUATION WHERE HE ASKS POSING NOT CLOTHED. I would wear clothes either way though. Anyway, I would just be like “yeah looks great lovely I love it-“ even if it didn’t look like me, since art is something that is important to me and I don’t know if he was actually trying or not. I would feel horrible if he actually tried and I was like “no” that’s just not something I would do. 13. Number 5 (Yuma) buys a large pet python and they try to talk you into keeping it in your room. How do you respond? •nO???? Like snakes are cool and if he were to want one I would support and be all for it, but it’s not staying in my room. There was this one show.. Fatal Attractions? Probably not what it’s called I’m going to look it up but I’ll leave how off I was up there just for giggles... ...Just kidding I was right!! Anyways, the ones with snakes... I’ve seen enough of those to scare me into not wanting a snake in my room whoops- 14. You go on a Ferris wheel with number 6 (Azusa) but when you reach the top, it stops moving and stays still for a long time. There seems to be some kind of fault, which means you’re trapped with number 6 till someone can get it working again. What do you do? •PANIC. I mean, luckily I’m with Azusa, and it would be nothing against him either, I’m just sorta terrified of heights. Poor bean would probably have to comfort me but I don’t know if that would happen or not- 15. Number 2 (Ayato) proposes you play a game of twister. Regardless of whether you want to or not, you get dragged into it. As you’re playing, you notice number 2 seems to be touching you a lot more than necessary. Do you call them out on it, or take some other course of action? •Okay this sounds like something he would do too though so um... well, I would probably try to call him out, but it would be one of those “Aye! Quit it!” Things where it won’t really work because I’ll just start laughing about it. 16. You’re getting changed in your room when you suddenly hear a noise from your wardrobe. You open the wardrobe to find number 3 (Kou) standing in it. How do you react? •......AaaaaAAAaaaah hello-? If I was not fully clothed I would probably panic and pull clothes on as fast as possible. Also like- ask why he was there and what he was doing? I would be very flustered and panicked haha. 17. Number 1 (Subaru) manages to accidentally handcuff themselves to you. They don’t have a key and for some reason, no matter what either of you do, you can’t seem to get them off. What are you going to do? •I would probably giggle at how hilarious the situation was, and knowing Subaru he would be so flustered and snappy and such. There would be so many funny scenarios like seriously, and it would either lead to a way out or to something kinky 👀 18. Number 10 (Reiji) presents you with a bouquet of roses and declares that they have feelings for you. How do you react? •I’d be very confused? Thanks for the flowers though- 19. You go swimming with number 8 (Shin). You’re having a great time until they pull you aside and tell you that they’ve somehow lost their swimwear. Are you going to help them and if so how? •Panic and go look for those swim trunks. I ain’t looking below his waist though that isn’t going to happen- 20. Number 5 (Yuuma) wrote a love letter to you and slipped it into what they believed to be your locker, however the locker actually belongs to number 8 (Shin) and they didn’t bother writing your name on the letter. How does number 8 react when they find it? •....HAHAHA I FIND THIS SO IRONIC- anyway- Shin would probably rip it up and hunt poor Yuuma down. There would be some whole huge drama that’s for sure- 21. Number 7 (Laito) gets very very drunk and tries to give number 3 (Kou) a strip tease. What happens? •I can see this actually happening too whoops haha. Anyway, depending on Kou’s mood, I could see Laito doing it anyway and Kou being either very pissy or recording it for blackmail or to post on his blog to embarrass Laito. Little does he know, Laito doesn’t give a shit and takes it as maybe some endorsement on his quest to get to some more girls- c: 22. Number 6 (Azusa) and number 2 (Ayato) get into a rap battle and they want you to be the judge. Who do you think is going to win and why? •.......Probably Ayato just because like their personalities and yeah. I feel like part of me would be like “no screw this I can’t choose-“ because I just don’t want to have to tell one that he’s better than the other. 23. Number 1 (Subaru) accidentally ruins number 9’s (Ruki’s) most prized possession and begs for your help in covering it up. What do you do? •I could see this happening. I would help out however I could, or end up saying he should come clean. But I would most likely help Subaru despite my own advise- 24. You wake up in between number 4 (Shuu) and number 10 (Reiji) with absolutely no memory of how you got there. Do you have any idea about what might have occurred and what are you going to do now? •Also very ironic. Well, we would have all probably had to have been drunk to get to that point. Me and Reiji would have to at least. I would probably wake up with this “ <: “ look on my face but still. A night of drinking would lead to that. 25. You go on a camping trip with number 9 (Ruki), number 6 (Azusa) and number 3 (Kou). What sort of stuff do the four of you do together? •Well first of all poor Yuuma is left out, but also it’s a blessing they’re all from the same family so there won’t be any fighting (at least I hope). Honestly I would probably want to fish at some point, walk around the woods, take some pretty pictures, draw, and all that fun stuff. I’d probably do a lot of messing around with Kou tbh because the thought of camping with Kou just sounds like a whole lot of fun to me. 26. Number 9 (Ruki) and number 4 (Shuu) have somehow swapped bodies. How do they react and are you going to try to help them get back to normal? •Ruki would be screaming and Shuu would just be like “idgaf.” I would probably go to Reiji for help right away but I don’t know how that would go. 27. You’re playing a game of Monopoly with number 5 (Yuuma), number 7 (Laito), and number 10 (Reiji). Who wins and who goes bankrupt and storms off in a rage? •I feel like Laito would win with some strategy of some sort because I know he’s intelligent with this sort of stuff I’m pretty sure? Yuuma would be the one to go bankrupt and rage. Probably throw and break the board haha. 28. You go on a hike with number 8 (Shin) and number 2 (Ayato). Number 8 is in charge of the map and they manage to get you completely lost in the middle of nowhere. What are you going to do? •Cry- just kidding. But maybe not. I feel like it would be hard being trapped between the two of them just because of who they were. I would probably get teased a lot because of the complete panic and that I’m terrible at directions, so, I would probably have to rely on them to get back. 29. Number 1 (Subaru) has given up on learning the trumpet and has taken up the banjo instead. They write a song and play it for you but it sounds beyond terrible. How do you react? •”IT’S BEAUTIFUL YOU’RE SO TALENTED I LOVE IT SO MUCH THANK YOU-“ there’s no way it would go any other way. Again, in general, music is also one of those things where I couldn’t say no to someone, especially if it’s something for me. He would receive many hugs and I would be super happy even if it was horrible. 30. Number 1 (Subaru) and number 2 (Ayato) get in a fight over you. Number 2 manages to win and asks you for your hand in marriage. How do you respond? •I wouldn’t know how to respond, especially if it just followed after a fight. I would probably be upset, so I probably would say “maybe later” and just kinda step out without responding. I wouldn’t be in the right mindset to say yes or no especially following something like that. It would also depend on relationship status and how close we were and such. Idk. Darkness consumes you.
It feels as if you still haven’t returned to your body, like you’re a floating entity in the abysmal limbo between your own mind and tangible reality. You don’t know how long you’ve been in this state or when you even entered it, but in an instant, you finally feel the gloomy cloud dissipating ever so slowly. It’s only when you move your hand and feel the smooth cotton under your fingertips that you can confirm that you are indeed awake.
The first thing you do with this revelation is try to remember what exactly happened.
Apparently, the dizziness you were experiencing during the hectic escape from City Hall wasn’t just due to Namjoon’s reckless driving. You weren’t able to differentiate it back then, but you recall your mind spinning independently from your already-shifting surroundings, and it seems that you ultimately passed out before arriving at the destination—wherever it is you’re at in this moment.
You’ve come to the conclusion that you’re currently lying in a bed, but you don’t dare to move a muscle. Now that you’re conscious again, everything that happened in the past 24 hours starts surging back from your memory, creating a riot of noises and images that makes you that much more unwilling to open your eyes and face the consequences that await you from the latest debacle that unfolded.
You take a few more minutes to lie in silence, attempting to pick up any sounds that may give you clues to your whereabouts, but when you don’t hear any movement in the proximate vicinity, you decide that it’s probably a good idea to get up.
Your eyes flutter open and you’re immediately met with white tiles and ceiling lights that make you reflexively squint as you try to get used to the illumination. A quick scan of the setting validates your first speculation that you’re in a hospital, except this room doesn’t seem familiar, which nullifies your second speculation that you’re back at headquarters.
No one else is in here besides yourself, so taking advantage of the solitude, you decide to take action and begin to push your body upright. The motion causes a tightening pain in an area of your back, and you can only assume from the constricting but bearable ache that your injury has been taken care of with stitches and bandages.
Managing to sit up, you glance over to the walls of the room to survey the possible exit routes; you see a door with a vertical strip of frosted glass to your left that has been shut and a window to your right with the blinds pulled down, both sides successfully blocking any and all chances of you seeing what lies outside this place. As you listen closer, you don’t hear anything in the immediate section of the corridor past your door, but you detect a few footsteps and murmurs coming from further down the hall based on the acoustics you’re able to gather.
A small part of you is contemplating whether or not you should just go back to sleep, but you disregard that option and slide the powder blue bed sheets off of you. Swinging your legs over the edge of the bed, your bare feet make contact with the cool linoleum floor below. You are able to see your hospital gown in all its glory, and the outfit is no stranger to your body. You’re dressed in what looks more like long-sleeved pajamas with a peach-colored flower pattern dotted all throughout the white fabric.
Taking a second to be grateful you’re not in one of those backless gowns, you tread across the room with deliberate but light footsteps towards the closed door. There’s no way you’re going to sleep again without finding out what the aftermath of the situation is. Your hand reaches for the lever doorknob, but when you grab it to give it a firm twist, the metal latch doesn’t budge. Trying again in the opposite direction, you’re only graced with a shackled click, ratifying that it is indeed locked. Releasing it and stooping down to the level of the handle, you identify under it that there is a slot for the key rather than a switch mechanism that can easily be rotated. This means that the door most likely locks from the outside, which brings you to make another speculation that this isn’t just any regular hospital.
Suddenly, the silhouette of a figure appears on the other side of the opaque window, blocking out the light entering into the room from the hallway. You straighten back up just in time as the lock emits the desirable sound you were originally hoping for and the door swings open outwards.
Namjoon stands at the entry, still in the same attire from the beginning of the job that went terribly downhill. The jacket he was donning is now off to reveal a simple gray t-shirt, and his black hair sits atop his head in a messier style than usual, even though you specifically remember him not wearing a hat at any point of the mission.
“You shouldn’t be up.” Namjoon regards you with tired eyes, yet his voice doesn’t give into his expression one bit; he still holds the same authoritative tone that comes natural to him.
“I just—there was no one in here so I thought…I wanted to know what happened.” Your words come out more jumbled than you were hoping, but your mind is still in the process of piecing together all your thoughts while also emerging from its drowsy state. Still, Namjoon seems to have understood the meaning behind your clumsy words.
“Get back in bed.”
Or maybe he just completely ignored them.
“No.”
There’s no bumbling over your words with the single, resolute syllable. The retort comes out of your mouth immediately, almost like his demanding tenor activated the habit you often have of defiance rather than compliance with receiving orders. You stand your ground before him, refusing to yield without obtaining the answers you’re looking for.
“Can you please just listen for once and stay inside.”
For a moment there, you could hear his voice falter the smallest amount, and it makes his command sound closer to a plea. You can tell from his demeanor that everything that has happened is wearing him down as well, and your unwillingness to cooperate is surely adding to the frustration. You slacken your stance when you realize this.
You definitely don’t want to have a fight again—not like the last one.
“I just need to know if he’s okay,” you offer in a more hushed manner, hoping that he’ll address your inquiry if you try to back down a tad. To this, he lets out a terse sigh that could really mean anything before stepping forward to enter the room. You shuffle backwards to let him through, and as soon as he stops to shut the door behind him, he gestures towards the bed you abandoned behind you.
Though disinclined, you figure it’s best not to cause any more issues than you already have. So, with a bit of a struggle, you climb back onto the mattress and sit upright, your eyes following Namjoon as he strides over to pull up a plastic chair next to the bed. Settling into the seat, he releases a longer breath of air from his lungs, leaning over to prop his elbows above his knees and brusquely burying his face in his hands to rub the exhaustion from his eyes. He raises his palms to slide through his hair a couple times, the action presenting you with the answer to how it became so untidy.
“Joon,” you call out delicately to coax his reaction when the quiet goes on for too long—or perhaps you’re just too impatient.
“Jungkook’s alive and stable,” Namjoon finally begins speaking, lowering his hands from his face to meet your gaze. “His surgery ended about an hour ago. They managed to remove the bullet from his chest and fix him up. He’s resting for now, but he’ll most likely be out of commission for a while—we’re still waiting on the verdict.”
It’s a relief that Jin was there to remedy the situation and Jungkook’s injury before things got worse. His specialized training in first aid unquestionably came in handy, and you have no reservations that his efforts helped make this procedure run more proficiently.
“What about the others?”
“They were sent back to HQ after Jungkook’s stability was confirmed. They’re steering clear of the area until things simmer down, but they’ll be back once they clean themselves up so we can all make a full report when Mr. Shin arrives.”
Your throat tightens at the information given to you. Hearing that Jungkook and the rest of your teammates are more or less okay should be easing the grip of pressure straining your chest, but now that the first layer of your worries is out of the way, you can feel a much more prominent one surfacing with a vengeance.
“This is all my fault.”
Your words are spoken softly, yet in the still atmosphere of this pale room, they sound much too harsh in comparison. As you declare the sentence out loud, the reality of your actions dawns on you to become even more unavoidable. Namjoon leans back in his chair and straightens his spine, his eyes still staring at you but his expression shifting just the slightest degree.
“That’s not true,” he refutes with composure. “You were just trying to mend the situation—although, your aim was a bit questionable.”
“It wasn’t my aim.” Your gaze drops down to your hands placed on top of your lap where the fluorescent lighting from above seems to give your skin an eerie tinge. “It was my hesitation,” you admit, your voice lowering further as if trying to hide under the blanket of silence. “I lined up the shot just fine, but I couldn’t get myself to pull the trigger fast enough.” You curl your fingers in towards your palm to create a fist, and as you strengthen your grip, you watch the blood drain from your knuckles from the tension. “I almost killed him,” you finish, the proclamation being released from you like an exhale as your fist does the same.
Glancing back up at your brother, you can see that his line of vision has lowered as well, and the countenance he holds is now a pensive one.
“I can’t say that you made the right choice, but I believe that you did the best you could do given the circumstances. There’s no use in dwelling over a decision that has already been made—that won’t change anything.”
Pressing your lips into a thin line to prevent yourself from rebutting against his outlook, you give a curt nod to show that you understand. You can always count on him to lace his supposedly comforting advice with tact and disciplinary logic.
Leaving the hindsight where it should be, Namjoon starts to fill you in on the details of your current situation.
Your team stopped at the Yongsan division’s office—you are currently sitting in their recovery sector—since it was significantly closer than driving all the way back down to the Gangnam headquarters. It was too much of a risk to go any farther, especially with Jungkook bleeding all over the back of the van.
Apparently, you were also a participant in painting the interior crimson. After your untimely dizzy spell that led to your loss of consciousness onto Taehyung’s shoulder, he was able to discover and notify the others that you had a knife wound across your back and it wasn’t looking too great.
After relaying a few more details and making sure to give you an earful for your failure to mention your injury to the team earlier—and then scolding you for your inattentiveness when you tell him you forgot about your own affliction because your teammate was bleeding from his chest because you shot him—you hear a series of knocks that thankfully interrupts any more admonishments Namjoon had in store for you.
The door opens just enough for a man to step through, placing only one foot across the threshold and leaning in the rest of the way. It’s one of the allies from the team that worked alongside you this past week, and he acknowledges you first with an insightful look before turning to address Namjoon.
“Our supervisor’s calling for you.”
Your brother offers a nod in return. “I’ll be right there.”
The man backs out of the room but leaves the entrance ajar, and Namjoon takes that as his cue to leave. He lifts himself up from his chair, the action looking more strenuous than it should be, and starts his way towards the door.
“Are you going to lock me in again?”
“Only if you’re going to try to leave again,” he responds as he takes a few more strides before stopping at the entryway.
“I won’t.”
Namjoon turns to glance over at you, giving you a look that you know all too well—he’s scrutinizing you, trying to judge whether or not you’re telling the truth.
If previous experiences are anything to go by, his skill in detecting lies is almost as bad as his driving.
“I’ll leave the door unlocked, but don’t wander.”
With that, he exits out of the room and closes the door resolutely behind him. Just as he stated, there’s no sound of the lock being engaged before you hear his distinct footsteps drifting down the hall.
You can’t tell for sure if he actually believed you or if he has learned to humor your tendency to bend the truth. Either way, you’ll take what you get, and you won’t feel bad about it.
You’re not going to try to leave—you’re absolutely leaving—and you also have no plans in wandering.
You know exactly where you need to go.
When you deem that enough time has passed for the corridors to be clear of your brother, you take your leave and head down the hallway. Your first move is to stop by the front desk for directions since Namjoon didn’t provide you with a room number, but once you turn the corner and stare straight down a particularly long but scarcely-populated path, the plan turns out to be unnecessary.
Halfway down the line of doors to the right, you spot Jin in front of one of them, his left hand in his pants pocket and the other handling his phone as he scrolls through the screen with his thumb. You expected him to be at whatever meeting Namjoon was summoned to, but there he is, standing serenely in a change of clothes that consists of a light blue button-down shirt tucked into indigo slacks, looking almost the same as he did this morning—if not better.
As you approach him with tentative steps, you don’t have to wait long until he averts his attention from his phone to call your name in surprise, looking at you with raised eyebrows. Obviously, he wasn’t expecting to see you passing him in this hallway either.
“You’re out of bed early,” he pronounces when you stop in front of him, lowering his phone to slip it into his back pocket.
“It’s just a flesh wound, really.”
“A flesh wound that required 15 stitches,” he replies, an amused smile starting to appear on his face. A grin starts to tug at the corner of your mouth as well, but it halts when you remember why you’re out and about to begin with.
“How is Jungkook doing?”
A lighter smile graces Jin’s lips as he answers you. “He could be better, but he’ll get there eventually.”

“It’s actually this one right here.” He tilts his head to the side so that he can motion to the door behind him.
“Oh,” you exclaim, thinking of how easy that search was. You’re about to let yourself in, but you notice that Jin isn’t moving from his position, almost like he’s guarding the front of the entrance. You furrow your eyebrows at his stationary stance. “Is it alright if I go in?”
The smile still lingers on his face, but it seems to exude an uneasy quality now. “That’s not really a good idea.”
“Why? Is he not awake yet?”
“No, he is…” he trails off. You wait to be told the reason, but nothing comes after that. You can tell he’s holding back something—it’s honestly not that hard to pick up on—but it seems like he’s just waiting for you to initiate the disclosure.
“What’s going on?” you ask, skeptical but hoping that they didn’t lie to you about the condition of your friend.
“We were told not to let you into the room.”
“By who?” you question accusingly, taken aback that someone would want to keep you away from him.
“Jungkook.”
Just hearing his name alone creates a tremor in your chest, but to hear it in this manner, you think you can feel a crack start to erupt from the epicenter of that emotional quake. Of course, it’s vain of you to think that something as serious as pointing a gun at your teammate and nearly executing a fatal shot will go without consequences. You had no anticipation that Jungkook would be eager to see you after what happened, but now that you’re actually standing here and experiencing the icy rejection, the guilt washes over you and leaves you with a frostbitten chill.
“He needs his space right now so that he can recover,” Jin speaks up gently. He must have noticed your crestfallen expression, for he’s attempting to put on his best consoling smile to provide reassurance. “Just give him some time.” It sounds like he’s referring to the bullet wound, but you know that there’s more to it than that.
You were hoping to get a chance to explain yourself to Jungkook or at least hear his explanation of the rash actions he took before you put an end to them, but it seems that will have to wait. You just have to trust that someone else will clear the air of misunderstandings and malice, if they haven’t done so already, that is.
Seeing that you’re still reluctant to walk away just like that, Jin takes some time to offer a few more details about Jungkook’s status in an attempt to put your worries to rest. The round you fired penetrated into his upper chest, but because of the distance in which you shot him, the bullet left no exit wound, halting just before it reached his scapula. The shock must have been enough to knock him off his feet, but he was very much awake the entire time, elucidating the unnerving stare you saw Jungkook hold in the van.
Luckily, that is the extent of his physical injuries, save for a couple of bruises. Nothing is broken and he’s all patched up, but as Jin alluded to earlier, he will need a few weeks until he’s back on his feet again. It’s completely understandable, and as much as you want to decline, you will grant Jungkook his request and keep your distance—for now.
As the saying goes, time heals all wounds.
Several hours pass after your encounter with Jin and failed meeting with Jungkook, most of which you spend restlessly waiting in your room for news to arrive. When it finally does, it’s in the form of your brother walking through the door again, but this time, it seems as though he has flattened his hair back to look much more presentable. He escorts you to an upper level of the building where you meet up with the rest of your teammates who have returned to report to this summons, just as Namjoon explicated beforehand. You’re glad to be out of the stuffy room, but what’s waiting for you in the office you’re about to enter is not precisely a worthwhile exchange.
“This is quite the predicament your team has caused.”
Within a few minutes, you find yourself fixed with your equally somber teammates in a similar arrangement as this morning, being berated for the second time in the span of less than 12 hours. Mr. Shin is standing next to a chair in the conference room, the expression resting on his face grim without showing any signs of changing. There are plenty of seats around the lengthy table used for group discussions, but if your boss is on his feet, there’s no way in hell any of you are going to sit either.
“I thought I made myself very clear when I expressed that you are not to cause any trouble—but here you are, having gone against my wishes. And for what? So you can allow the enemy to slip away once again?”
His words sit heavy on your shoulders, and his eyes bore into each one of you as if he’s just waiting for someone to make another blunder. Not only did your team cause pandemonium in the middle of Seoul Plaza, but in the state of disarray, you guys lost the wanted man yet again. Unfortunately, the ones who were keeping an eye on him through surveillance were the ones who had to switch into the roles of driver and medic after everyone made it back into the van.
You make sure to keep your mouth shut for the love of all that is good, letting your lips part only to repeat meek apologies along with the rest of your members. Mr. Shin is acting much more levelheaded about the situation than you predicted him to be, but the reason for that may be the fact that the biggest culprit of the day isn’t present at the moment.
Jungkook is still in his room resting and recuperating, but you don’t doubt that he will get a talk of his own if he hasn’t already, and you’re almost certain that it won’t be as nice as the talk the rest of you are being gifted with.
“The repercussions of the incident today will take a great deal of effort to quell, and we will have to expend valuable time and resources to clean up the mess you’ve made.”
From what you can gather, his “resources” must be none other than powerful connections and money, the latter being greatly involved in the former as well. In Mr. Shin’s perspective, it’s the most effective method of solving problems concerning the organization, and if it keeps you and your fellow agents on the streets and out of the steel shackles, you’ll have to admit its efficacy.
“Until then, Jungkook will be temporarily withdrawn from all group activities until further notice.”
You can’t say that you always see eye to eye with Mr. Shin, but this is one of the times where you agree with his ruling.
Leaving Jungkook out of the action appears to be the best bet for now; he needs a break for his physical condition to improve, not to mention that you haven’t even delved into assessing the mentality that led him into the blind killing frenzy in the first place. Even with your currently limited knowledge of everything that is going on, you still wholly respect Mr. Shin’s decisions. They are what got him and all of you this far in life, and in the end, they are what will keep this business and your blood flowing.
You never argue with any of his orders—you owe him that much.
There is also a certain respect you have to hold for the man himself. On a good day, you can probably go as far as to say that he saved your life by taking you under his wing, because you surely wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him. Honestly, you don’t know where you would have ended up—truthfully, you don’t even want to imagine it—but one thing cannot be denied.
You would have been nothing but a lost child.
After the generous censure from your CEO, everyone is dismissed except for Jin—he’s asked to stick around for a little longer to receive additional information. As for you, you’re sent back to your room to stay overnight. You can’t really complain given the plight you put yourself in, but if there’s one thing you know you’re going to regret not having, it’s Hoseok—or at least, his concoctions.
A couple hours after returning to your bed, you hear a taut knock at the door. You’re expecting Jin to come in and brief you on whatever extra details he might have been told to distribute during his extended meeting, but your brother makes his third appearance of the day instead—albeit, he’s here for the same purpose.
“Any updates?” you waste no time in asking.
“Just one,” Namjoon replies as he goes to sit down on the chair he occupied previously. “The presence of our wanted man at the plaza confirmed Mr. Shin’s suspicion.”
“Which is?”
“It was already a well-known fact that whoever the enemy was, they could not only identify who we were, but they were actively trying to come after us. What wasn’t common knowledge, though, was our location and mission objective. No one outside of the organization knew about the meeting or Mr. Shin’s scheduled attendance, and there was no other reason for them to crash an event like this, especially such a public one.”
It doesn’t take long for you to put the pieces of the puzzle he’s laying out for you together. “Does that mean…?” you start to say, but Namjoon tips his head forward into a nod before you even have a chance to finish.
“We have a mole in the company.”
There’s a traitor in your midst.
That answers the query of how the wanted man knew your team’s location and was able to spot you from the crowd, but there are so many other questions circulating in your mind that are continually begging for explanations. You quiet all of your torrential thoughts for now and isolate only the select few that require your immediate attention.
The most important question now will be who that mole is—and how you’re going to exterminate them.

1. what would completely break your character?
losing any of the people that i’d consider his Most Important People– basically, rowan has a lot of emotional eggs and not a lot of baskets (due to the fact that constantly moving around makes it hard to form relationships), so he’s very emotionally dependent on those very few people he’s close to, and losing any of them would fuck him up majorly.
losing Marcus would probably be the worst version of this (since marcus was basically the only consistent person in his life for years), although losing lumley or emilia (after i assume he meets her again at some point in the future) would also be…. very bad. esp emilia bc he already lost her once.
2. what was the best thing in your character’s life?
i’m not sure– maybe it hasn’t happened yet? but a few very good things have been: his sister being born, getting to learn magic from jeska fucking alduri, having marcus there to take care of him after everything, meeting lumley and making A Friend
3.what was the worst thing in your character’s life?
the night that his home was attacked when he was nine.
4. what seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
making paper boats with emilia, sitting on his father’s lap as he worked, the yellow flowers that grew outside his family home, talking with a girl that worked at the stables in the kajjitani capital, practicing shuffling cards with some of the guards when he was traveling with them, eating that bread that lumley likes so much with her, etc
5. does your character work so they can support their hobbies or use their hobbies as a way of filling up the time they aren’t working?
kinda both? or neither? his job is basically his life (or rather, being a spy is sort of the natural extension of his status as a fugitive prince and he can’t really separate any facet of his life from those two facts), so his hobbies are used to support his job? as in, the hobbies that he had before That Night and even hobbies he picked up afterward were channeled towards being practical and useful. ex: he’s always liked magic but the reason he’s mostly picked up charm and illusion spells is practicality, or how he genuinely likes playing cards but also used them as a way to develop a good poker face, etc
on the other hand though, you could say he’s working to support his hobbies, because one of the main reasons he’s working with the resistance (besides the obvious) is that he hopes by doing his part he can help push the world towards a state where he doesn’t have to hide anymore? and he can just live his life and have normal hobbies that he does for fun?
6. what is your character reluctant to tell people?
mostly the big “i’m a prince” “i’m a spy” type secrets. he’s also bad at expressing affection verbally.
7. how does your character feel about sex?
likes/wants sex but tends to be shy about it, mostly as an extension of his general issues with trust/intimacy
8. how many friends does your character have?
depends how you define friend? he has 1 close friend (lumley) and a bunch of new sort of acquaintances/sort of friends? which would probably include honeyclaw, peitho, M, E, maybe I, ternelle, maybe ezna (altho i’d put her more in the ‘cool aunt’ category). so anywhere between 1 and 7/8 depending on ur count.9. how many friends does your character want?
he’d like to have more friends, probably adding to the aforementioned group S and jella + some of the guards, and maybe ko (he’d like to be on better terms with him but doesn’t really see it happening outside of work)
10. what would your character make a scene in public about?
not much, he’s very keen on not drawing more attention to himself than absolutely necessary. only exceptions would be if something happened to one of his loved ones. he might make a scene in front of a group of friends though, if he felt it was necessary to achieve a goal or he was especially upset about something.
11. for what would your character give their life?
i’m not sure, because i don’t think he’s very disposed towards martyrdom. not because he’s too selfish, but he thinks it’s kind of useless? why give your life for something when you can dedicate your life to something/someone instead?(also, a thing that jossick told him right after his family died: “you’re still here, so that means that they didn’t win”) (the thing that is important isn’t dying for something, it’s surviving)
but he might give his life for the cause, if it was necessary. he’d also die for emilia, maybe marcus
12. what are your character’s major flaws?
prickly, bad at actually dealing with his own emotions or anyone else’s, just lies all the fucking time, is willing to do/has done some less-than-savory shit in service of a Cause or someone he cares about (including lying, manipulating, even killing)... there’s probably more but i cant think of them rn
13. what does your character pretend or try to care about?
he like, wants to care about how lumley is upset about what she sees as being drafted into a war/being a pawn for much larger players but… while he’s not happy that his friend his upset he just cannot genuinely bring himself to care? this is just what life is for him. he didn’t have a choice in it, and he can’t bring himself to care about someone complaining when they actually have the choice to not be apart of this if they dont want to be? so.
14. how does the image your character tries to project differ from the image they actually project?
image he tries to project: depends on what mask he’s putting on, but in general someone who’s serious, responsible, and capable, and Definitely Isn’t Sad about Anything you guys
image he actually projects: kind of uptight, stressed out, and emotionally closed off (and also simultaneously caring A Lot). generally i think he gives off the impression of just being a kid who ended up with a lot on his shoulders. he’s trying his best
15. what is your character afraid of?
losing the people that he loves. also fucking up his job and getting people he cares about hurt/disappointing them
