You’re a Cat, Hargreeves
Pairing: Five Hargreeves x Reader
Request 1: Hello, so Five has been through a LOT in just two weeks, so can I request something where the reader and him have a bit of intimacy but are not together yet. Then something happens that is just the last drop to him and he shows up to the reader with red and glossy eyes and collapses in her arms? She just holds him (because boy, he needs it) and after a while he manages to talk about things letting his feelings for her slip in the process. Then she can just calm him down and make him feel loved.
Request 2: Could I request a fanfic where Five has a terrible day at the Commission or in the Apocalypse and at bedtime the Reader comforts him, and he suddenly becomes the little spoon for the first time? Idk I think it would be cute to see him shy and secretly liking
!!! Note: Since these two requests have a common theme of Five being stressed as fuck and having a breakdown I’ve decided to combine them. Personally I imagine this scenario in my Commission AU, HOWEVER, I intentionally didn’t make it very specific in terms of the circumstances so you can headcanon whatever u like <3 also sorry its not the exact scenario from your requests but i hope you don’t mind me taking some creative liberty.
also both Five and Reader are in their 20s here coz otherwise i’m very uncomfortable
massive thanks to @wonders-of-the-multiverse for helping me out with wording the physicality of certain things <33333

You’ve seen Five in many different states.
You’ve seen him anxious and spiraling, you’ve seen him furious and borderline insane; depressed and distant, lost and confused. At this point, you genuinely thought you’d seen it all but, apparently, you were wrong.
“I am just so tired.” Five whispered almost inaudibly with a sigh so desperate that it made your stomach turn.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” you asked, your voice small as you weren’t quite sure how to act yet.
He glanced at you, and you couldn’t help but notice his eyes glistening with salty wetness that was about to spill out and smear his frustration all over his cheeks.
You always loved Five’s eyes - his huge, almost puppy dog eyes that made you absolutely lose yourself in their depth. Whenever you looked into them, you saw wisdom, maturity, exhaustion and patience, dedication and passion, all at the same time. There was a whole other universe behind his blue orbs, and you admired it endlessly. Looking into his eyes right now, however, was nowhere near as exciting and pleasant. Instead, it felt like some strange and violent ache was gripping you at the very heart and squeezing it without mercy, and you winced at the sensation as worry and concern were uncontrollably blossoming inside your ribcage.
Five didn’t grant you with an answer, too busy trying to hold back his tears and clenching his teeth proudly as if there was any point at all.
You got up on your feet and approached Five slowly, careful not to freak him out as you were giving him the time to get used to your presence in his personal space. Normally, he wouldn’t mind yet you couldn’t tell if the same rules applied to scenarios like the one taking place.
“I’m here, yeah? It’s okay, you’re okay,” you kept repeating like a mantra as you pulled Five into your embrace.
He buried his face in the crook of your neck and you instantly felt your skin getting damp. In just a few seconds Five’s entire body relaxed into yours and he wrapped his arms around you tightly, finally letting go and allowing himself to have a proper cry. He hadn’t had one in years, and, by all means, he was entitled to this breakdown.
Most of the time, Five was the one protecting you - looking out for you and leading the both of you out of dangerous and potentially lethal situations. Not that it was a completely one-sided dynamic but it was true that you tended to rely on him quite a lot in times of crisis. Five was good in crisis, exceptional actually. He made decisions quickly and didn’t hesitate to do absolutely anything it took to achieve his goals, which, unfortunately, meant that he was often forced to make choices where humanity and ethics were no longer a top priority.
Despite all that, Five always seemed in control, and even when he wasn’t, you knew he’d get it back eventually. You had placed your trust in him at all times, and only now were you starting to realize that it must have felt like a huge weight of responsibility on his shoulders. Granted, he was objectively smarter and more capable due to his superpowers but he was still human.
Hearing Five’s hopeless and feverish sobbing was unnerving, and you could only imagine what was going on in his cluttered and clearly overloaded mind as he was bawling his eyes out with such raw and genuine fury. From the lack of a better idea you simply waited for Five to cry himself out, patiently holding him in your arms and whispering words of reassurance into the air, not so much out of hope he’d hear them and listen but more as a means of letting him feel you were still there.
“I’m so fucking tired,” Five finally uttered but his words rather quickly got drowned in his weeping. You still got the message, though.
“You deserve to rest, Five,” you replied, feeling your legs start to shake from the weight of Five’s entire body leaning on your form. As much as you wanted to stay like this for as long as he needed, you couldn’t exactly go against your evident physical disadvantage. Five was a heavy gentleman, after all.
“Hey, let’s move to the bed, yeah?” it was more of a statement than a question, so you stepped towards the bed suggestively, expecting him to follow you. To your relief, he didn’t resist and followed your lead right away, seemingly too exhausted to even think, let alone disobey.
Five’s body was limp from the absence of energy, all of which had presumably gone into crying, and he could barely manage to walk on his own, so you grabbed at his shoulders to steady him.
It felt like his physical self was now merely a vehicle with no pilot to steer it, and his mind was long lost someplace else.
As you sat Five down, you caressed his cheek with your thumb, wiping away the trails of his tears whilst also trying to gently break him out of the prison of his troubled and restless brain. To your disappointment, it failed to spark any sort of response.
Right in this moment, he looked almost defenseless. Sure, he wasn’t an incapable baby all of a sudden but he was relying on you, reversing your roles and putting all of his worries and pain on your shoulders, basically asking you to carry them for him because he simply couldn’t anymore.
“Fives. Fives? Look at me, please?” you called, trying to shift his attention to something on the outside because you knew it was the looking inside that pushed him to crumble.
“Focus on my voice, alright?” you tried to keep your tone as steady and stern as you possibly could because right now you were his only bridge back to reality.
You pressed your palms against Five’s shoulders and slowly climbed onto his lap, resting your weight atop of him completely and hoping the pressure of it would manage to snap him out of his almost delirious daze.
As your hand reached for Five’s, you placed it on your chest right where your heart was beating and said:
“Can you feel it? It means I’m alive, Fives. I’m a human and a consciousness just like you. And I'm never leaving your side, no matter the circumstances. You’re never going to be alone, I promise you.”
You took Five by his chin with your other hand and softly guided his gaze upwards to meet your own, noticing his red glossy eyes finally regaining some clarity. The very peak of Five’s episode had already passed, and, as he was coming down from it, he encircled your waist with his arm and let his head sink to your shoulder with his eyes closed shut.
Still sitting straddled across his lap, you brushed your fingers through his soft silky hair and began to massage his scalp in a calming manner, trying to release some of the tension and lull him further into peacefulness. As your fingers moved a little lower, you knew you’d hit the sweet spot because Five literally purred into your skin as soon as he felt your nails gently scratch at the nape of his neck.
“How many times did I say you’re a cat, Hargreeves,” you rolled your eyes at his reaction and couldn’t resist a wide smile as you buried your nose in his hair. Five hummed quietly, and it was the only response you were going to get from him, which, to be fair, was already a big improvement so you couldn't really complain.
“How about we get you into some comfier clothes, wash your face and then you can tell me all about what’s been on your mind, hm?” you proposed confidently, still holding Five close and practically enveloping him in your warmth.
Your every movement was saturated with such understanding and care that not for a split second did Five feel like his vulnerability was making him weak or unworthy. It was quite the opposite, and with each passing moment he was beginning to feel like you were only making him stronger.
He nodded at your suggestion approvingly but didn’t move an inch, and you took it as a hint that he needed a few more minutes of sitting in silence; the bridge of his nose pressed to your collarbone as he was still finding his way back into the present.
You didn’t mind at all.

Tumblr media
Denki Kaminari x Reader
AU’s: Soulmate tattoo au, college au
Words: 4074
Warnings: Manipulation, loss of friendship, angst on Jirou’s part, fluff on your part :) i didn’t know which character to follow and keep switching lolol
Summary: You and Jirou are best friends, but everything changes when Jirou realizes you and her crush, Kaminari, share soulmate tattoos. She tries her best to keep you apart…
A/N: Literally I haven’t STOPPED thinking of this request since it came in however long ago. I sat down and wrote it and lowkey didn’t realize how long it got haha. Lol why all the hate on Jirou my dude? XD
----
You and Jirou have been best friends through thick and thin. From elementary school to U.A, you’ve been together to experience all of life’s biggest moments. You were there when Jirou nailed her first gig, you both took pictures together at all of your homecoming dances, and you’ve taken more road trips together than you’d care to count.
It was no surprise to either of your families when you decided to dorm together at the same university. Some friends find that when they become roommates that their living habits are incompatible; not you and Jirou. With everything you’ve been through together, you regarded her more of a sister than a friend.
Jirou trusted you with all of her insecurities, and you trusted her with all of your secret thoughts. You knew that soulmates existed, but never would you have thought you’d be lucky enough to organically find an additional best friend soulmate! You often joked with her about it: “What if we actually secretly have the same tattoo and we never knew?” You’d both laugh, knowing how ridiculous that would be.
Soulmate tattoos only develop after you’ve first interacted with your soulmate, and seeing as you and Jirou have known each other for most of your lives, you both knew that the joke held no weight. However, this did mean that the both of you had a very real chance of never meeting your soulmates or seeing your tattoos develop. It was a sad thought, but a reality that many people face. But you both were still young and in college, and you were hopeful that you had plenty of time.
Even if you did never find your one true soulmate, you knew you at least had a friend like Jirou who you could live your life with. There was no one else in the world you’d rather spend time with, and you knew if and when your actual soulmate came along that they’d have to learn to share.
Truthfully, you were more in love with the idea of soulmates than Jirou. Where you tended to hold what people would call ‘hopelessly romantic fantasies,’ Jirou considered herself a realist and didn’t mind the idea of finding love that wasn’t divinely ordained. It was a growing practice to date without tattoos, and over time the importance of them seemed to lose its touch. Still, you figured it wouldn’t hurt to give your prospective soulmate some time before you give up on it.
The universe, however, always was a lover of irony! Just your luck that Jirou was the one looking to date but you were always the one getting hit on. You knew it frustrated her, though she would never say. You knew, and while you did your best to hide it, you couldn’t help feeling excited each opportunity a tattoo might develop only to feel disappointed when it never showed. You were both luckless in love, but you were luckless together, and that made it a little better.
That was, until Jirou met some guy majoring in computer science named Denki Kaminari. You’ll never forget her face when she got home that night; she was all grins, and you couldn’t help but tease her about it. You were excited for her, you truly were! She had sat across from you on your bed while she told you all about how they had sat next to each other in a math class.
You watched her lips twitch up as she described how he cracked jokes at her throughout the class while she struggled to stifle laughs. Finally, she told you that they were going to hang out the following night, and you screamed while giggling as if you were little kids again.
You helped Jirou pick out the right outfit, sitting on your bed while she tried on clothes for you. You helped straighten her hair while she carefully drew on a thin line of eyeliner. And then, like a parent sending their daughter off, you waved her out the door in your sweatpants and slippers.
Eventually, one hang out turned into many, and Jirou confessed to you that they had become rather good friends. You remember feeling a little disappointed. “Only friends?” you had asked her while she nodded her head. But, she assured you that she was happy about just being friends with Kaminari. And with a warm smile, you believed her.
After a month, stories of the mysterious Denki Kaminari were no longer satisfying. “Jirou!” you practically pounced on her when she came home from her music theory class. “Take me to lunch with you! I wanna meet your friend!”
Jirou looked at you, and though her eyebrows furrowed slightly, she could find no excuse not to agree. Playing with her earlobe, she nodded her head. “Uh, sure! I’m leaving now, though, I just came to drop off my bag. Are you sure you're ready?”
Hopping away from her, you scrambled to throw on your shoes and fix your hair. “Yeah, yeah, I’m ready!” you reassured her, grabbing your keys and your phone. Looping your elbow around hers, you grinned. “I can’t wait to meet your friend! You talk about him so much.”
Jirou nodded, walking with you across campus to the cafeteria she agreed to meet him at. As you walked, you asked her how her class was; you let her speak even though you had no idea what sort of musical things she was talking about.
Finally reaching the cafeteria, you followed Jirou in and scanned the tables, trying to pick out Kaminari based on the description Jirou had rehearsed to you all those times. “There,” you heard Jirou say before she stepped past you. You followed her quickly, peeking around her back to finally see with your own eyes who this famous friend was.
Your eyes caught his hair first; it was a golden yellow, a bright color that fit the wide grin on his face. Reaching the table, you couldn’t help but inhale sharply. The boy was devilishly handsome, and Jirou’s words had not done him enough justice.
“Hey Jirou!” Kaminari drew out his greeting, standing up to give her a sideways hug. You couldn’t help but chuckle as she got embarrassed and shoved him off her. You could tell that in the time they’ve known each other that they’ve gotten close. “Who’s this?” Kaminari was the one to bring you up, and you gasped.
“Oh! Right, sorry,” you apologized, smiling. “I’m (Y/n), Jirou’s friend. Sorry for intruding on your lunch, I hope you don’t mind!” You stuck your hand out to shake his, and when your skin touched you swear the hairs on the back of your neck stood up.
He held your hand a little longer before letting it go, his smile meeting his eyes. “Not at all!” he said warmly. “Especially not someone as cute as you! Jirou, you should bring your friends along more often!” You laughed, a little bashful, before taking your seat. Jirou only rolled her eyes, choosing to sit across from you next to Kaminari.
“So you can hit on all of them? Yeah, gross, stay away,” Jirou spoke, causing both you and Kaminari to laugh.
“Ouch, didn’t know you were so protective of them,” Kaminari feigned hurt. “I’m not that bad, am I?” His eyes were teasing.
Jirou tched, smirking slightly. “Oh, you’re the worst.”
Before you could feel too awkward and left out, Kaminari turned back to you. “So (Y/n)! What’s your major?” You told him, and continued the conversation with a few questions of your own. You both got to know each other rather well, and after only a few minutes of talking you realized why Jirou liked hanging around with him so much.
You were talking so much that your throat was beginning to get dry. You didn’t notice how much time had gone by, talking with Kaminari was just so easy. Suddenly Jirou cut into the conversation. You had almost forgotten she was there. “(Y/n), don’t you have class starting soon?”
You blinked, and a quick glance at your phone had you scrambling to collect your things. “Crap, thanks Jirou!” you said, grabbing your bag from the floor. “Kaminari, it was lovely to meet you! We should all hang out again soon.”
Kaminari smiled, a look of amusement on his face as you quickly grabbed your keys and phone from the table. “Denki works fine. And totally! Before you go, take my number.” You exchanged contact information, too busy rushing to notice the look Jirou had on her face. Waving goodbye to both of them, you hurried to class.
Nothing could have prepared you for what happened the next day.
“JIROU!!!!” you screamed from the bathroom. Jirou practically fell out of her bed, reaching the bathroom just as you opened the door. Steam from your shower leaked out from the bathroom into your bedroom. You held a white towel around your body, your hair still coated in shampoo.
“What, what happened?!” Jirou asked, worried. You had a strange expression on your face, wide eyes and a slight flush to your cheeks. With a trembling hand, you lifted your arm to reveal a small design on your wrist. Jirou’s heart seemed to jolt violently as her eyes traced the tiny outline of a lightning bolt on your skin. “I-Is that…?” she couldn’t seem to finish the question.
“Yes!” you screamed again, laughing. Despite the wet towel covering your body, you gave Jirou a tight hug which she returned. Excitedly jumping together, you gushed for a few moments over the tattoo before Jirou forced you to finish your shower.
Once she heard the water go back on, Jirou let her face fall. It couldn’t be because you met Denki yesterday, was it? The universe would have to be cruel to pair you with the one person she’d managed to fall in love with. “No,” she reassured herself with a hushed voice. “(Y/n) had a class yesterday where they met tons of new people. With 50 people in there, it’s much more likely that they met their soulmate there.”
Jirou sat back down on her bed, reasoning with herself as she waited for you to finish showering. She rehearsed that same line over and over in her head so that she could tell you it when you got out again. You met them in your class. You met them in your class.
That night, Jirou was getting ready to leave. You watched as she threw on a hoodie and slid on the converse she had converted into slip ons. “Where are you off to?” you asked curiously. “Going to see Denki?” Jirou didn’t miss the way your voice raised with interest at his name.
With her back to you, you didn’t see the way she rolled her eyes. “No,” she said casually. “Just going to the music practice room again.” She peeked back to see you nod your head and reimmerse yourself into the Netflix show playing on your laptop. Releasing a small, relieved sigh, Jirou left before you could ask any more questions. It wasn’t that she liked lying to you, but she couldn’t help but feel irritated about how chummy you and Denki have gotten recently. The fact that you developed a soulmate tattoo didn’t help either. Besides, he had texted her specifically to come over, not you. She was excited for some alone time with him.
Walking down the familiar path to his dorm building, Jirou let the cool air calm her worries. Trying to reassure herself, she made her way up to Denki’s room and knocked on the door. She barely finished before the door swung open and he pulled her in. “Denki, what?!” Jirou cried, startled.
“Thank goodness you’re finally here, Jirou! You walk like a grandma!” Kaminari said jokingly as he closed the door.
Jirou snorted, her heart warming. Right now, it felt like it did before she introduced you to Denki. Just the two of them in his room, joking around. “I’m gonna pretend I didn’t hear that,” she said, taking a seat on the beanbag that she’s come to love. “So what’s with the urgent texting?” she prodded, a teasing smile forming on her face. “Forgot the notes in class again?”
Kaminari scoffed, crossing his arms with a smile. “No,” he said. “That was one time… okay maybe two. But, no, I texted you because of this!” Jirou felt her heart shatter before Denki even rolled up his sleeve all the way. No way. There was no way. But, the ink didn’t lie. There, on his wrist, was the same small lightning bolt that Jirou had seen that afternoon on your skin.
Jirou swallowed the heartbreak in her throat, keeping a calm face. “You got a soulmate tattoo?” she asked softly. Denki nodded his head enthusiastically.
“Can you believe it!? These are like… super rare now! I swear, I thought I was gonna go my whole life without ever meeting my soulmate. But look!” Jirou didn’t want to look. “That means they’re here on campus somewhere. I interacted with them! Can you believe it?”
Jirou could only manage to nod her head, but it seemed enough for Denki who was dominating the conversation.
“Jirou,” Denki said, his smile audible in his voice. “What do I do? I have no idea what to do!” Jirou’s heartbeat was pounding in her ears. She took a few seconds before she started to answer, willing the tears in her eyes to stay put.
“Well, Denki…” she started, and at the serious tone in her voice he quieted. “It’s not really popular anymore to have a soulmate.” The venom in her words was hidden perfectly, and he didn’t seem to pick up on it as he slowly spoke.
“What are you saying?” he asked, the excitement gradually dying in his voice.
Jirou couldn’t help the words coming from her mouth. “It’s out of fashion, Denki. People are going to think you’re shallow if you wave that around.” Seeing the pain spark in his eyes, Jirou swallowed. “Most people just ignore it and date whoever, you know?”
Denki was silent, tracing one finger over the mark on his wrist gently. “I mean,” Jirou continued, “you could keep it but… I really wouldn’t. Here, let me help you hide it.” Denki still didn’t say anything as Jirou began to dig the foundation out from her bag.
Bringing the chair closer to Denki’s, Jirou gingerly grabbed his hand and began to blot away the small tattoo. The concealer was slightly off color, but it was enough to do the trick. Satisfied with her work, she tried to calm the pounding of her heart. “S-See?” she spoke, breaking the silence. “Just like normal.”
“Yeah,” Denki mumbled finally. Jirou didn’t like seeing him this dejected, but she knew that it had to be done. She knew she could make him happy if he just… noticed her.
“I know what’ll cheer you up,” Jirou offered. Denki lifted his head slightly, eyes dull. “I’ll play a movie. You know… like old times!” Getting no yes or no from Denki, Jirou put a movie on while he sat on his couch. Turning off the lights, Jirou grabbed a blanket and plopped down next to him. As the movie played, she noticed how he kept glancing down at the covered tattoo on his wrist. With a dash of annoyance, Jirou curled up closer to him. He’ll forget about it, she knew. He’ll have her, and he’ll forget all about you before he ever got the chance to know you.
After that day, Jirou tried to keep you from Denki as best as she could. She was the only one who knew about both of your tattoos, so as long as neither of you found out, she should be able to get away with it. She’d ask you about different classmates to throw you off. “Did he have the mark?” “No…” “Maybe it was that other classmate then!” And for a while, this seemed to work… on the surface.
No doubt you were becoming exasperated about finding your soulmate. You retraced your steps many times, but still, you couldn’t find them! As for Denki, Jirou could tell that he was still thinking about his mark. He tried to be present whenever they hung out, but his mind always seemed to drift. The worst part was when you asked about one other. “When will I see Denki again?” “Is (Y/n) gonna be there?” Gosh, it was insufferable! You only met one time and it’s like you’re already in love!
Having enough of it, Jirou devised a plan. While you were out at class, she walked to your desk and borrowed one of your black sharpies. Carefully with the thin tip, Jirou traced out the delicate shape of a lightning bolt on her wrist. You flaunted it around enough where she had a pretty good mental image of it.
Satisfied with her work, Jirou capped the pen and rubbed at it to make sure it was set in place. Reaching for her phone, Jirou texted Denki. We need to talk. I’ll be over in 5 minutes. She was already halfway to his place when he finally replied with a simple ‘okay.’ Knocking on his door, Jirou invited herself in the instant it opened.
“Are you okay?” Denki asked, concerned. Jirou said nothing, only walking to the center of the room before turning to face him.
“Denki,” she said, taking a deep breath. “I’m sorry I didn’t reveal it sooner but… I was worried about ruining our friendship.” Silently, she raised her wrist to reveal the forged tattoo. Denki watched, eyes widening as they landed on the small lightning bolt.
He went to speak but Jirou quickly cut him off. “I know I told you to cover yours up but honestly… I was dumb. I was scared. But I’m not scared anymore and I’m ready to be with you. We’re soulmates, Denki…” Jirou smiled nervously. “We’re meant to be together!”
Denki was speechless, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. “Ahh, wow, Jirou,” he said finally, an awkward chuckle falling from his lips. “I-I… I don’t know what to say.” Jirou felt her nerves wrack through her.
“You don’t have to say anything. We can just… continue like we were! We were practically dating anyways…” At this, Denki seemed to jump, startled. Jirou’s mouth went dry.
“W-Woah woah woah,” Denki defended himself quickly, waving his hands in front of him. “We weren’t dating before… b-besides, Jirou. I’m flattered, really but… I… I already have a date with (Y/n) in a bit.”
Jirou stopped breathing for a moment. “W-What?” Jirou had forgotten that you both exchanged numbers… did that mean you both had started to hang out without her? Wait… no. He didn’t know about your tattoo, there was no way. “Can’t you cancel? Denki, look at my wrist!”
Denki sighed, the nervous smile falling from his face. “Jirou, look. Weren’t you the one who said that soulmates didn’t mean anything anymore? Well… maybe you’re right. The truth is, you’re a good friend! But, soulmate or not, we just don’t… have chemistry like that. I’m sorry. Please don’t make this worse than it has to be.”
Jirou couldn’t move. Her brain seemed to stop firing completely at his words. After a moment of waiting for a response, Denki sighed. “I’m sorry. But, uh… I actually have to go meet (Y/n) so…” he checked his watch. “I don’t wanna rush you, so just lock the door before you leave? ...text me later. We can talk more later if you need.”
And then, just like that, he was gone through the door. Jirou’s hands fell limp at her sides, staring where Denki once stood. She felt her knees buckle before she hit the ground, a silent sob rippling through her. Angrily, she scrubbed raw at her wrist, only barely smudging the ink. Her phone buzzed tauntingly, your name lighting up her screen like salt to the wound. Vision blurred with tears, she blocked your call.
“Aww man, Jirou!” you hissed under your breath at the sound of her voicemail, pulling the phone from your ear. With a sigh, you set the phone on your lap, your legs swinging gently off the bench. Right now, you could have used a word or two or encouragement from your friend.
Sure, you knew you hadn’t told her about the date yet, but were you really at fault? Jirou had grown oddly distant recently, and you barely had a chance to speak to her these days. She was always running off to the practice room, though you had a feeling she may have been lying a few times about it.
At first she’d been happy to help you find your soulmate, helping you pick out which guy to investigate. But once you ran out of classmates, she seemed to abandon the search all together! You could only think of one other person… the boy who you were currently waiting to meet on the campus bench.
You and Denki had been texting ever since you exchanged numbers, though this was going to be the first time you saw each other since your first meeting. It seemed rude to hang out together without Jirou, but by now your curiosity had overcome your sensitivity. All you had to do was look at his wrist. You just had to know…
“(Y/n)?” you heard a voice call your name, and you looked up to see none other than Denki Kaminari walking towards you. He seemed a little on edge, but one flash of your smile and he seemed to relax completely.
“Denki! Hey! Good to see you again,” you chirped, standing up to give him a hug. Though this was technically only your second meeting, you felt as though you practically knew him already from all of your late night conversations.
His arms hung around you for a little longer than an ordinary hug would have lasted, but you liked the way it felt nonetheless. Pulling away, your smile softens a bit. “So…” you start slowly, your voice adopting a tone of apology. “This may seem a little strange or old-fashioned…but I think it’s worth a shot.”
You watched Denki’s expression carefully, his eyes willing you to continue. You bashfully played with your thumbs. “Do you… do you think I could see your wrist?” You watched his eyes widen, and immediately fear you overstepped a boundary.
“A-Ah,” you stutter, quickly back-tracking. “I swear I’m not a weirdo, it’s just--!! Here, look.” Without a question, you push up your sleeve and offer your wrist to him, revealing the small thunderbolt tattoo.
Denki’s breath hitches, and you observe his reaction carefully. “No way,” he mutters breathily. “Thats--”
“A soulmate tattoo, I know,” you laughed softly, already beginning to drop your wrist. “They’re rare, but I got lucky! Well, not too lucky. I can’t find them anywhere! That’s why I, you know...” Denki didn’t move, and you were beginning to suspect he didn’t have what you were looking for.
“Sorry for making it weird. I didn’t mean to lead you on, it’s just that… I need to find them. I’m sorry, maybe I should--”
“No, wait!” Denki cut you off, catching your wrist as you turned to leave. You feel a blush rise to your cheeks as he turns your wrist over to stare at your mark again. After a moment, he wordlessly turns over his own wrist, and with a few hard scrubs… reveals his own hidden tattoo.
You feel a mix of emotion at the sight, gently taking his wrist in both of your trembling hands. “I-It is you…” you gasp. “But you covered it up.” Hearing your voice droop slightly, Denki takes your hands in his own.
“I didn’t want to,” Denki explained quickly. “I think we’ve both been misled.”
You paused a moment before realization dawned on you. “D-Do you mean that… that Jirou?” Denki nodded, taking you into another tight hug.
Face pressed into his chest, you allow yourself to be washed over by his warmth. He smelled like lemongrass and lavender, and the feeling of his lips pressing against your hair filled you with an indescribable tenderness.
“That doesn’t matter right now,” he said, a choked laugh sounding from his chest. “I found you, (Y/n). I found you.”

Supernatural AU with a Vampire Neil, meet messy, “i know this looks bad, but i swear, it’s not" & “you confuse me.”
I'm not sure if this was what you were hoping for when you send me these prompts, but I rather had fun writing it so I hope you enjoy, Anon!

If Andrew was being completely honest, he really didn't mind his job. Sure, it wasn't all that impressive, but it also wasn't like he had someone around that he wanted to impress. It was easy, too, and no one bothered him. Well, no one bothered him because he had third shift, and the only people grocery shopping at three-am were literal vampires; and in a tiny town like Palmetto, there were really only a handful of those, none of which would ever have any reason to bother the short, scowly human stocking shelves over in the candy aisle.
Which was exactly what Andrew was doing when he heard the crash over in the refrigerated section.
Shifting the headphones off one ear, Andrew tilted his head and listened. There were a few more minor crashes, then a bumbling, scrabbling sound of things being kicked and jostled around. No screaming, though, so Andrew reaffixed the cup over his ear and got back to what he was doing.
"Cleanup by the refrigerators. Cleanup by the refrigerators."
Andrew lips moved soundlessly to Fall Out Boy, willfully ignoring the fact that refrigerators was in his section of the store and thus his responsibility should there be a call made to it.
"Cleanup by the refrigerators. Cleanup by the refrigerators."
Andrew juggled three snickers bars to the beat, tossing them onto the shelf just as the guitar solo started.
"Cleanup by the refrigerators. Cleanup -- Goddamnit Minyard get your ass over to refrigerators and clean the mess up."
Welp, he tried. With a heavy sigh, Andrew dropped the candy in his hands back into the box he'd been unloading, then gave two middle-fingers to the nearest camera.
The gruff voice over the intercom said, "Don't be a cheeky bastard, you little ingrate. Just do your damn job."
"Yeah, yeah," Andrew muttered to himself, rolling his eyes as he turned to head down the aisle. From all those crashes it was sure to be an epic mess. Maybe he wasn't as okay with this job as he thought he was.
Whatever Andrew thought he was expecting to see when he rounded the corner, it was not what he actually saw.
Because there, sitting in the middle of fallen displays and drenched in both blood and pink lemonade with an unconscious (dead?) human sprawled across his lap, was an annoyingly pretty disaster of a vampire.
Andrew stared at the tableau for a long moment, the tugged his headphones down around his neck and moved forward, surveying more of the damage as he got closer. Two of the displays near the fridges had been completely toppled, sending s'mores supplies and snack cakes as far out as lunchmeat on one side and paper goods on the other. There wasn't as much liquid on the floor as Andrew suspected there might be, the blood confined only to the vampire's actual person and only a small pool of pink lemonade leaking out of the nearest container. Upon closer inspection, the human appeared mostly unharmed and definitely alive, as he was breathing. He didn't have a drop of blood on him.
The vampire flashed fang as he gave a weak sort of smile. "I know this looks bad, but I swear, it's not."
"Uh-huh. Right." Andrew crouched down and picked up the carton of pink lemonade. It wasn't even opened properly. There were punctures in the side exactly the right size and distance to have been caused by pretty-vamp's fangs.
Andrew turned the carton to show the leaky punctures to the guilty vampire.
"I was thirsty?"
"Mm. What about the snack draped over your lap?" Andrew gestured at the guy, who was, admittedly, definitely a snack. He was significantly bigger than either himself or the vampire, with black hair and a small tattoo of a chess piece on the crest of one cheek.
The vampire did not seem to share Andrew's opinion. His pretty face screwed up in distaste, those damn-near cerulean eyes flashing with ire. "Ugh. No way. I only drink from Kevin when I'm on my deathbed."
"Is that your way of telling me that he's your boyfriend and you nip him every night, then?"
"What? No?" The blatant confusion on the vampires face had Andrew sighing. The vampire shook his head. "Look, I'm sorry about the lemonade. I was going to pay for it, but it couldn't wait." The skepticism must have been visible enough on Andrew's face for even this idiot to be able to read it because the vampire sighed and continued after just a short judgmental pause.
"I don't drink human blood. That brand of lemonade in addition to regular food can keep me going for weeks at a time without me having to go after animals either."
A vegan vampire, now Andrew had seen everything.
"Right, so why is your boyfriend passed out?"
"Not my boyfriend. The dumbass decided to go out while sick with moon-fatigue. He fainted."
Moon fatigue? Andrew looked back down at the man in the vampire's lap. That meant that 'Kevin' wasn't a human at all, but a were-something.
Instead of commenting on this, Andrew refocused on the vampire's face and said, "You sure you aren't dating?" Because it seemed pretty fated, a dumbass vampire who starves himself to the point where he has to raid the local grocery store for magical lemonade, hooking up with a dumbass were-somethingorother that resisted the change to the point where he got sick and then went out like that, thus necessitating the aforementioned situation where stupid starved vampire has to come rescue him. Speaking of... Andrew took another look at the carton in his hand and memorized the brand. There was no way he was ingesting anything that was able to keep a vampire off his bloodlust for weeks on end.
"Very," the vampire confirmed. Then he sighed and looked down at his friend for a moment before smacking him sharply enough that the sound even got a little echo. "Wake up, asshole!"
Kevin jolted awake with a lurch, then moaned and covered his face his hands. "The liiiiiights, they're so briiiiiight. Neiiiiiiiiiil where aaaaaare weeeeee?"
The vampire - Neil - rolled his eyes and gestured to the man in his lap. "See what I have to deal with?" He shook his head and shoved Kevin off his lap before standing. He was a little shaky as he rose, but managed to keep his feet. "Get up Kev. Thanks to you there's a huge ass fucking mess and if we ever want to come back again we're gonna have to help clean it up."
"Nooooooo."
"Yeeeeeees."
Kevin peaked his eye open, saw Andrew, and pointed. "Make him do it. Its basically his job!"
"I don't work here," Andrew said immediately, despite the violently orange vest he was wearing that sported both a name-tag and the logo for Palmetto Grocery.
Then a truly awful thing happened: Neil grinned at him. It was like the goddamn moon rising over an enchanted fucking lake, is what it was. Those blue eyes shined and his whole face softened. Two perfect dimples winked at him, his fangs flashing in a way that was both really sexy and kinda... cute. Even with the blood-spatter on his face the man was downright captivating.
Kevin woozily stumbling to his feet snapped Andrew out of his momentary stupor. The were looked from Neil to Andrew and sighed, shaking his head. "Tiny assholes. I am surrounded by tiny assholes." Then he turned and began to shuffle around, picking up boxes of Twinkies and stacking them in one arm.
Andrew turned back to Neil. "So if all you are here for is lemonade, why are you covered in blood?" It distantly occurred to Andrew that this probably should have been the first question he asked.
Neil shrugged. "Had to kill someone when I picked up Kevin."
Ah, well, that was that then. Andrew nodded his understanding and the two of them joined Kevin dealing with the mess. It was after Andrew had righted the display fixtures and Neil had started stacking all the boxes on them upside down that Neil looked over at him and asked, "Do you usually work nights?"
Andrew paused, blinked, and looked over at him. "Why?"
"Just curious. Kev and I are new to town."
"I am not a tour guide."
Ugh, no there it was again - that grin. This time accompanied by a short, bright laugh.
"Understood." Neil placed the last box on the top of the fixture, somehow getting it to balance on a single corner. Satisfied, he then looked back at Andrew, still fucking smiling. "I guess I'll see you around, then."
"You confuse me," Andrew said, almost without meaning to.
Another fang-flashing grin. "I'm a bit of a puzzle."
Andrew studied him for a moment, considering. He wondered if the idiot vampire even realized he was flirting with him. It sure seemed intentional - but he hesitated to give the dumbass that much credit.
"I guess I will just have to solve you then," Andrew finally said.
"Guess so." Neil then had the audacity to wink, and Andrew's ears turned pink. Intentional then, definitely intentional.
Luckily, Neil had turned to collect his friend, so probably didn't see his traitorous ears. The vampire looked back at him one more time, just long enough to raise a hand in farewell, before leading Kevin away from the refrigerators. Andrew tracked him with his eyes until they turned the corner, and were gone.
Well, if nothing else - Palmetto sure as fuck got a hell of a lot more interesting.

you know you're on my mind
bibliosexual
Summary:
If there’s one thing Derek’s learned in life, it’s that crushing on someone who lives on an entire other fucking continent is probably a bad idea.
(hs!au + texting!au + childhood friends to lovers the ULTIMATE fluff fic)
i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)   (series)

Summary:
Stiles is six years old when he first hears Derek's voice in his head.
Or what happens if you have a soulmate bond, in a universe where soulmate bonds don't exist?
Up Down Lock Unlock
isthatbloodonhisshirt (wasterella)
Summary:
“Why are you going into grandma Ito’s apartment?” he asked.
Derek turned to him, key sliding into the lock. “What do you mean?” He tried to turn it, but the key wasn’t budging. Maybe the lock was sticking again, it’d been doing that the past few days.
Stiles was staring at him like Derek was stupid.
Derek did not appreciate sass from a ten year old.
“That’s grandma Ito’s place.”
“No,” Derek said calmly, pulling the key out and then shoving it back in, wiggling it a little when it continued to refuse to unlock the door. “This is my place.”
“I think you’re on the wrong floor then, because that apartment belongs to grandma Ito.”
(time travel counts as childhood friends right?)
the difference between going back and going home
thepsychicclam
Summary:
Stiles and Derek were inseparable growing up, but then college, jobs, and life happened. When Stiles comes back to Beacon Hills a decade later, he doesn't expect to reconnect with Derek, and he sure doesn't expect to fall in love with him.
It's Such a Gas When You Bring Up the Past

Summary:
Stiles finds a box of old photo albums that dredge up the sweet, the funny, the adorable, and the mildly heartwrenching parts of his and Derek's past.
(mainly a friends fic but its too cute to not include)
It's Always Been You
charlesdk
Summary:
Stiles' love life was practically non-existing, always had been. He was always terrible at picking up clues when people hit on him (it had happened, Erica had been witness to it and had been the one to let him know it was happening in the first place) because he never expected anyone to do so.
He wasn't the most desirable guy around, he knew that. He was loud, extremely nerdy, never knew when to stop talking, not exactly much of a looker if you asked him, the list was endless.
Point was, he never did know when someone was flirting with him. Which was probably how he ended up in the fight that would change his life for the better.
Lead You Home Again
GotTheSilver
Summary:
The first time Derek meets Stiles, the kid’s brown eyes are wide, and he’s staring up at him with a mischievous grin as he tugs at the arm of Derek’s first ever Batman figure like he’s trying to separate it from Batman’s body.
An alternate take on Teen Wolf, wherein Stiles and Derek are childhood friends, and things unfold from there.
Kingdom By The Sea
kilaem
Summary:
Lydia grabs his arm and pulls him down in the seat next to her. “When the hell did you find time to bag a guy like Hale?”
“We’re friends,” Stiles feels his face heat up, and then the team are running out and Derek sees him and smiles. His blush gets worse.
“Oh really?”
“Our moms were friends, okay? We’ve been in diapers together.”
“I thought you two hated each other.”
Those That Bump In The Night
bleep0bleep
Summary:
A boy’s head appears upside down, hanging off the bed. “Is anyone there?” he calls out curiously, looking right at Derek’s eyes. Caught, then. The protocol for being deliberately seen by a child is just to look as strange and fearsome as possible. No one would believe them, anyways. But Derek is tired, and he’s been running and scared, and now he just kind of flickers, curling out a tendril of dark smoke, hoping that he’s a little bit scary. No such luck. The boy’s eyes widen. “Oooh, are you the bogeyman?” “Bogeyperson,” Derek says, before he can help himself.

When Stiles was a boy, he had an imaginary friend named Derek. Ten years later, Derek comes back, and is very, very real.

216 + 1: Words To Say Instead of I Love You
briggs
Summary:
Derek and Stiles have been best friends for fourteen years. They have their differences, sure, but it's never been a question for them. Their friendship has been the most solid thing in their lives -- until suddenly it isn't anymore.
Funny how just a few choice words can throw fourteen years of friendship off-balance.

Summary:
Stiles is ten when he saves the Hales from their burning home and Derek from a wolfsbane bullet, and this establishes a pattern that seem to continue indefinitely.
"Then he's facing a burning home, and he wraps the hood of his sweatshirt around his mouth before he pushes the door open and steps inside. There's Mr. Hale asleep - he hopes asleep - on the couch, next to - Stiles thinks that's his brother but there are so many Hales, who can keep track. He rushes over and starts shaking him, can see the rise and fall of the man's chest so he knows he's alive, but he's not waking up. He shoves away his hood so he can shout, "Mr. Hale! You have to get up, there's a fire! Mr. Hale, get up!" Nothing, he's not even twitching, both of them taking in deep even breaths like they're having the most peaceful of rests, and Stiles is going to cry. "Wake up, wake up, wake up!" There's a moment, where all Stiles can hear is the blood rushing in his ears and not the roar of the flames or the creak of wood, then with a violent, silent pop it's all back and both of the men are gasping awake, eyes open and jumping to their feet. "
(one of my favourite fics like EVER)
it came from the trees

Summary:
“Don’t worry, Scott caught me up on everything,” Kira assures with a bubbly smile via video-chat. “You and Derek, huh? I probably should have seen that coming. I always thought it might be Cora, but Derek was the one that looked at you how I used to look at you.”
Stiles goes a little pink. “It’s still kinda new but, yeah. I really like him. He’s...” Beautiful. Patient. Smart. Painfully honest. Sweet.“...a total dork.”
Kira laughs and laughs. When she gets herself together, she replies, “Yeah, those little hearts and stars in your eyes definitely say different."
or
Stiles moves from the shiny, fast-paced lifestyle of Los Angeles to the foggy, sleepy town of Beacon Hills so his dad can become the new sheriff. Newly fifteen, he does his best to finish out his freshman year of high school (by staying under the radar) when he suddenly becomes the Beyoncé of the Supernatural community. And, without much prompting on his part, he ends up catching the eye of one of the most prominent Werewolf families in all of North America. It literally all starts with a stuffed animal(s).
(oh god this fic is the literal best even though its abandoned it ends at okay-ish place. this is one of the best hale family characterisations ive ever read. if you squint it can be a childhood friends to lovers fic but im including it anyway bc its amazing)
Promises aren't Meant to be Broken
paradis
Summary:
“Thanks for saving me,” Stiles blurts out, staring up at Laura, wide eyed.
Laura grins. “I like you,” she says, “we’ll be friends.”
(more laura and stiles besties centric but totally worth a read)
The Things We See
MelodramaticSalad
Summary:
Stiles grew up in the life of knowing that there was always more to life than what others saw with a first glance. Even as a child he saw things that no one else seemed to and always had a fascination with the unusual.
Some considered him an unusual child, but Claudia welcomed every single quirk her son displayed. His mother had a few special talents of her own and thrilled her to see it in her son as well. She'd raised Stiles to always keep his mind open and as grew and started to display his powers, she began to teach him how to use them. She even taught Stiles about werewolves at a young age, his infatuation with them growing once he had learned the truth about her closest friend.
Stiles spent nearly every possible moment that he could roaming the Hale house, following after the middle child most of the time. Derek was three years older than Stiles, but the bond they developed with each other was something their mothers considered out of a story book. Like Derek, Stiles was sensitive to his emotions, but unlike Derek, Stiles didn't need a scent to figure it out. He could feel it.
take me back
matildajones
Summary:
“I dare you to kiss me,” Stiles taunts, and he’s not expecting the way Derek says a naughty word under his breath and then leans forward.
Stiles yelps. He just dodges Derek’s mouth before he’s laughing wildly and running through the trees, calling out a series of ew ew ew as Derek chases him back home.

in a place where dreams continue
Tumblr media
[ ffxivwrite2021 ] ★ [ masterlist ] ★ [ prompt #25 - silver lining ]
[ alphinaud/wol ] ★ [ 1,422 words ]  ★ [ mermaid au ]
silver lining- advantage that comes from a difficult or unpleasant situation
getting caught in a terrible storm and being thrown overboard may just be the worst thing that has ever happened to alphinaud - or the best.
The Ignia Satella is the safest ship across the seven seas - as Captain Carvallain would be so quick to boast. Even with Alphinaud’s own trepidations and doubts about setting foot anywhere near the ocean, it was only because of the sheer size and reputation of the ship and its crew that the young prince of old Sharlayan finally agreed to take his first maiden voyage across the seven seas to visit Eorzea and meet with the nation leaders of its four city states as per his duty as son of king Fourchenault.
Sometimes, he’d wished that he let his own fears get the better of him, however... because not even halfway through the journey, a storm of crashing waves and deafeningly loud lightning broke, rocking the boat so violently that he had inevitably been thrown off the railings and overboard into the cruel, cold abyss of the dark ocean below.
Alphinaud could not even hope to survive in still waters, let alone in the midst of a storm as waves upon waves carried him further away from the ship. The frantic voices of the crewmates were growing more distant - not that he’d hear them when his ears are clogged full of seawater and the sounds of the thunder mocking his demise.
Death by drowning had been one of the young prince’s worst nightmares, and to have it be realized so soon after he’d decided to metaphorically and literally take the plunge filled his heart with a crippling, painful regret that ached his heart as he allowed his consciousness to slip.
He doesn’t know how long he’s passed out for - or if he even is alive anymore. But his eyelids flutter open to the blinding sun above his head - cotton candy clouds dusted among a baby blue morning sky.
His body feels heavy - like a sack of popotos and he can barely even feel his limbs as his navy blue eyes struggle to regain his focus. He no longer feels like he’s floating - or rather sinking... he realizes then that he’s lying on the back and he can feel the rough, grainy feel of sand sticking to his bare skin.
It takes a good several minutes for him to finally come to his senses enough to remember the flashing of lightning, the battering of waves against the wooden haul of a boat and the loud sound of a splash as he fell overboard-
By... by the twelve, he fell overboard. He should be dead.
“A-are you okay?” He hears a voice beside his ear, no louder than a whisper and sweet like a songbird’s. “Can you hear me?”
Alphinaud turns his head to the side, vision still a tad blurry, but focused enough now to be able to make out the shape of a veil of long, cascading hair that reflected the light of the sun over glistening skin, and a pair of gleaming violet eyes that swirled with the color of the galaxies.
When the young prince fails to respond, the stranger draws herself closer with her elbows, the silver circlet she wore like a crown glowing incandescently in the sun and framing her head like a halo.
Her features are ethereal, unnaturally so. From the beauty of her glowing eyes to the light fairness of her damp skin. Even with stray strands of pure white hair clinging to the sides of her face and neck, she looks like an angel without compare.
“Ah...”
He surmises that he’s dead, and closes his eyes with a lengthy sigh.
“To think...I would find myself in the after life so soon and be greeted by an angel....”
Before he can lament his short lifespan any further, he feels his cheek being pinched - not hard enough to hurt terribly... but just enough of a sting to jolt him back to his senses and open his eyes in shock once again.
“O-Ow!” He finally rolls back, sitting himself up with a loud pant and rubbing his eyes with the back of his hands, feeling the wrinkled skin upon the pads of his fingers with a grimace.
When he finally moves his hands away he’s staring out at an endless ocean, the deep blue waters meeting the lighter sky in the distant horizons with not a ship or hint of land in sight.
He feels the light nudging of the waters against his legs as the tides push and pull, as if to wake him up from his daydream.
He’s.... not dead.
No, it would appear that he’s washed up on a beach somehow- whether near or far from Sharlayan, he could not tell. And try as he might, he could not find strength in his legs nor his arms to push himself up to stand.
And thus he can only turn his head to look at the one who had woken him from his unconsciousness, and it is only then that he fully takes in the peculiarity of the woman before him.
The girl’s no angel - even if she looks fully the part... but the light blue fabric of her wet dress does nothing to conceal the long, fish-like tail that sat in place of where her legs should be - the iris purple to cerulean blue ombre of her scales holo and iridescent, reflecting the light as brightly as her hair and eyes.
Though her skin from her chest above is bare and clear, he also notices blue scales climbing up the sides of her neck and cheeks as if to draw more attention to her delicate features.
“Um...” Her lips part, snapping out of his daydream, “Are you... are you okay now? You’re not still delirious are you?”
Words nearly die at his throat, Alphinaud finds it difficult to speak... but he forces himself to anyway, cringing internally at how hollow and strained his voice sounded.
“I... Yes, I’m... I think I’m alright. I’m not dead, at the very least...”
The girl visibly relaxes, but stiffens again when she notes the boy’s eyes surveying from head to fin and then back up again.
“Y-you’re... a mermaid???”
The snow haired girl jolts, expression twisting into realization and fluster.
“O-Oh- Oh no... I...”
Her cheeks burn a bright red shade, spreading across her nose and to the tips of her pointed ears, and Alphinaud bites back the urge to compliment her cuteness.
“I should’ve left... I’m not supposed to be..” She’s stammering on her words, head tilting to the side and averting her eyes from his gaze. He hears sand crunching as she props her elbows up to push herself back towards the waters. “I-I’ll be going now-”
“W-wait!” the boy raises his voice - though he hadn’t meant to... but the young mermaid girl seemed startled enough to still herself and swallow a gulp before hesitantly turning her violet eyes to look back up at him. “I-i’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you, miss. I just... have many questions.. and I’m not sure I’d be able to get any answers if you leave me here.”
Alphinaud’s come to terms with the very real possibility that he’s stranded - it would make sense for how uninhabited his surroundings seem - with a dense canopy of trees of a tropical forest behind him, a pile of rocks not too far from the sandy beach they sat upon sheltering what seemed to be a coastal cove.
And though he knows the girl belonged within the safety of the waters, the exact opposite of where a floundering young man like him would thrive, losing the only person here who could potentially speak and understand him scares him as a prospect more than living his days out on a stranded island.
“You were also the one who saved me, weren’t you?” Alphinaud takes an educated guess, and judging by the sheepish dart of the girl’s gaze away from him before a small, timid nod, he was right. “I’ve yet to thank you fully yet... for saving my life. So, won’t you stay miss? I promise I won’t make you talk about anything you’re not comfortable with.”
It takes a long moment and what felt like an eternity for the girl to contemplate and ponder over her thoughts- whatever it may be... but Alphinaud patiently awaits her answer and finally lets out a wide, warm smile when the girl finally nods once again, tucking and folding her tail behind her and sitting herself up, brushing her hair behind her ear.
“O-okay... I’ll stay.”

Distance

Hey, hey, everyone! Here’s another story for @sokaiweek, this time for the prompt “Distance”! I hope you enjoy what I’ve thought up for today! <3
Kairi tapped her pencil incessantly against her desk, and her blue eyes constantly flicked to the clock on the wall, where the minute hand inched towards five p.m.: the end of her final class for the day. Normally, Kairi tried to pay attention in class— especially because Naminé grew bored within the first ten minutes and began doodling, so Kairi always had to provide her notes— but she was in no mood for college algebra today. As soon as the clock struck five, she would hightail it out of this building like Cinderella fleeing the ball, except Kairi wasn’t running from her suitor.
She was running towards him.
Her boyfriend, Sora, attended a university many hours away from hers. Under normal circumstances, they were good students and were diligent with their studies. Though this afforded them good grades, this also meant that their time to spend together was minimal. They’d scheduled a Skype call today, and it would be the first time they’d spoken in nearly two weeks— which was why Kairi had practically snapped her pencil banging it against the desk with impatience.
Finally, the clock struck five, and before the professor could even finish his announcements about some quiz next week, Kairi was tearing out the door. Her bag slapped against her thigh as she full-on sprinted towards her dorm, earning a few confused looks from the people walking at a more leisurely pace. In record time, she was throwing open her door (surprising her roommate, Selphie), wrenching her laptop out of her bag, and belly-flopping onto her bed.
As Kairi frantically typed in her password, Selphie turned in her computer chair to laugh at her.
“Calling Sora tonight?”
“Yes,” Kairi said, now waiting with bated breath for the call notification. She was hunched over the screen like a hungry fox, her hands laced over her lips and muffling her words. She looked over when Selphie rose from her chair and began gathering her things. “Oh, you don’t have to leave! I can go somewhere!”
“No, it’s okay. I have a study group in an hour, so I’ll just head off to the library early and start preparing. You kids have fun,” she teased with a wink, and then she was strutting out of the door. Kairi smiled at her friend’s consideration, but she then jumped violently when her laptop suddenly began to ring with the notification. She screamed as her laptop slipped off her comforter, and in her scramble to grab it before it hit the floor, she accidentally answered it. Therefore, Sora got a very flattering view up her nose while she hauled it up. He was laughing while she was setting it on her lap and trying not to look panicked, but her flushed face and disarrayed hair wasn’t helping.
“Drop your laptop?” he guessed, and she could only smile sheepishly. “You’re so cute,” he said while laughing again, and Kairi felt her heart flutter. She settled herself back against her pillows, and when she looked to the screen again, she realized that Sora was moving.
“Ah, are you calling from your phone?”
“Yep, I’m on a walk. It’s a nice evening,” he said, turning the phone around to show her the beautiful sunset, dying the sky a russet red-gold. It shone above the tall skyline, where skyscrapers were dotted with white squares of light. When he turned it back to his face, he smiled brightly and ran his fingers through his spikes of brown hair. “How was class today?”
“I don’t know. To be honest, I was too busy being excited,” she admitted with a cute, bashful smile. Sora’s face broke into a huge grin, and his cheeks turned pink with delight.
“You wanna know a secret? Me too,” he said, and Kairi giggled girlishly. “Riku was doggin’ on me all day, callin’ me a sap,” he pouted, and Kairi crooned sympathetically. “I can’t help it! It ain’t like I get to see ya as much as I want to.”
“I know.” Long-distance relationships sure had their challenges. She loved that Sora was attending a good university and pursuing a good career, but that didn’t make her feel any less lonely sometimes. She’d lie awake at night craving his touch and warmth. She’d daydream in class about their old dates, the way his hand fit so perfectly in hers and the sweetness of his kisses. They’d been at this for nearly a year already; Kairi didn’t know if she could survive the rest of university like this.
Her sadness must have shown on her face, because when she looked back to her laptop screen, Sora was smiling understandingly.
“I know it’s hard, Kairi. I appreciate you sticking it out for me,” he said, and she wanted to cry at the sheer amount of gratitude he was expressing. “I couldn’t ask for a better girlfriend.”
“And I couldn’t ask for a better boyfriend,” she countered shyly, grabbing her ankles and leaning back into the pillows while she balanced the laptop on her crossed legs. Sora chuckled at this, quickly texting someone on his phone before turning his attention back to her.
“Eh, I am pretty great,” he joked, and Kairi batted the laptop screen, though she would’ve much rather slapped him on the shoulder. Sora tipped back his head in laughter, his rosy face illuminated briefly by the passing light from a streetlamp. Yeah, you are pretty great, Kairi thought affectionately, roped in by the pure infectiousness of Sora’s laugh. Her endearment rapidly turned into a cold pang of sadness, and she pushed back into her pillows, trying to draw comfort from their soft embrace. It only worked a little.
“I really miss you,” she moped, and Sora gave her a sympathetic look.
“I know. I miss you too, Kairi, every minute of every day.” Ugh, how could she be sad when he dropped romantic one-liners like that? One second she was sulking, the next her heart was pounding because her boyfriend was so goddamn smooth. It was an exhausting back-and-forth, but she wouldn’t give it up for the world. He smiled into the camera at her, and she couldn’t help but give him a teensy smile in return. “Don’t worry. We’ll be able to see each other in person soon. Just hang on a little longer, okay?”
“Okay…” she relented, but jutted her lips out in a pout in the hopes it would speed up the process. Sora just gave her a little smirk. Ugh, he looked so handsome when he did that. She squirmed as her heart fluttered against her chest like a bird trying its best to escape her ribcage.
Sora was suddenly enveloped in light, as he was walking into a building. He lowered the phone to talk in a low voice to someone, and for a few seconds, all Kairi could see was the fabric of his cargo shorts. After finishing his brief conversation and walking a few paces down the hall, he lifted the phone back up to smile apologetically.
“Sorry.”
“Checking into the dorm?”
“Yeah, but… Not my dorm,” he said, his expression morphing into an absolutely diabolical grin. Kairi just gaped at him, absolutely unable to compute. Not his dorm? Then who’s dorm was it? Riku, Ventus, and Vanitas all lived in the same dorm as him, so who else could he possibly be visiting? He was snickering at her while she struggled to process his cryptic statement; in her camera, she could see the absolutely stupefied expression she was making, mouth hanging open and eyes wide. She couldn’t help it! She was absolutely, completely bewildered!
“You still haven’t figured it out?” he laughed as he stopped in front of a door, and Kairi just shook her head wildly in exasperation. Sora laughed again; then, with a meaningful raise of his eyebrows, he knocked on the door behind him.
Kairi literally screamed when she heard that tap-tap-tap echo through her dorm room. She didn’t even bother to shut her laptop, instead shoving it to the side and springing from her bed. Sora’s laughter bounced around the room as she raced across, but her bare feet caught on the area rug, causing her to slip. She just barely caught herself on the doorknob, and like a cartoon character, her feet scrabbled uselessly over the fabric until she bunched it up to hit the tile underneath. Once the rest of her body had caught up with her, she wrenched the door open to find Sora waiting, his arms spread wide and grin absolutely blinding.
“Sora!” she squealed, and Sora leat out an oomph! when she jumped at him. She clamped her legs around his middle and her arms around his neck, smothering his face with kisses, while Sora grabbed her hips and spun on his heel to keep his balance. He could barely get a word out between her onslaught of smooches, especially because he was too busy laughing. He carried Kairi back into her room and kicked the door shut behind them so they stopped bothering her dorm neighbors, and finally, Kairi stopped kissing him to grab his face and give it a squish.
“Is this real? Are you really here?”
“Well, I sure hope so,” Sora chuckled with a look down at himself, then back up at her. “It’d be pretty hard to explain if I wasn’t.”
“How did you even get in here?”
“Selphie let me in.”
“That—!” she gasped, but Sora shushed her by sweeping her up in a kiss of his own. Kairi hummed into the meeting of their lips, the closing of the distance that had pained her for so long. He kissed her again and again and again until they were running out of air, but he kept kissing her until the absolute last moment, and they broke apart panting and red-faced. Kairi caressed his cheeks lovingly, eyes sweeping up and down his face like she wanted to commit it to memory. “I’m so glad you’re here,” she said, the realization suddenly hitting her and making her choke up.
“Aw, Kairi,” Sora cooed as she latched onto him, burying her face into his neck while she cried. He rubbed her back soothingly, leaning his head against hers. “A good surprise?”
“Mhmm,” she mumbled pathetically into his skin, smearing tears all over it while she nuzzled in as deep as she could go. She breathed in deep to get that lovely scent of his, salt and ocean water and coconut. As it flooded her nose, calm flooded her too, and the tears dried as soon as they had come. She relaxed in his embrace, tired from all the sudden emotion. Sora pressed a few kisses into her hair while he carried her to her bed, and then he just unceremoniously threw her on it. Kairi squealed as she bounced on the mattress, but it was swallowed up by Sora crawling on top of her to kiss her again oh-so-sweetly.
“I love you,” he smiled once he’d had his fill of her kiss-swollen lips, leaning his forehead against hers. “So much it hurts sometimes.” There he went again with those damn one-liners. How was a girl supposed to deal with her heart nearly bursting out of her chest?
“I love you too,” she said. Though it felt like a lame reply in comparison, it was how she felt. Sora liked it well enough; he snuggled down into her, covering her in every inch of his warmth, and Sora responded in kind by wrapping him up like a koala hugging its tree. His hands massaged the flesh of her waist and hips in mindless, tender touches.
“Riku’s right,” he smirked suddenly. “I am kind of a sap.”
“Hehe, but you’re my sap,” she hummed, and Sora buried his face into her hair so deeply that she could feel his smile against his scalp.
“I can live with that.”
Kairi knew that he’d have to leave again soon, but she didn’t want to think about that. All she wanted to think about right now was him, his touch, his warmth, his love— the closure of the distance between them, if only for a moment.

Thoughts - Part 1 // Matthew Gray Gubler x Reader
This timeline is set around 2006 because that's when the actually 2nd season of Criminal Minds was going on. So Matthew is about 26.
Summary - Soulmate AU! Once you turn 18, you can hear some of your soulmates thoughts. And when you meet, your thoughts go silent for 30 seconds. Readers soulmate is quite the character. (Anything you see in bold is the other persons thought.)
Word count : 2.1k
This is kind of experimental lmao, lemme know if you like it :)))
Tumblr media
"What was your first soulmate thought y/n?" I got this question often, everyone did. This time it was asked by a new friend of mine, we met in our cinematography class this semester at LAFS ( Los Angeles Film School ).
"I think my story is one of the more fun ones."
"I bet mines better." Her eyes held promise, but I wasn't sure she could beat me.
*It was currently 1:15 pm, and I was waiting patiently for my first soulmate thought. I was with my best friend Marley, we sat in the cafeteria of my college, mind you, surrounded by other people.*
*"What time were you born again?" She had asked the question so many times this hour, by the way she was bouncing, you would think that we were waiting for hers.*
*"1:19 pm for the last time Marley." I giggled, nudging her shoulder. I took a bite of the cupcake she had bought me for my birthday. It took no time for the clock to hit 1:19, I anxiously waited to hear something, anything.*
"Now disclaimer." I told my friend, who I now knew as Alex. "I knew that some people had reported that their first soulmate thoughts were kind of, *loud*. But I can tell you that I was severely unprepared."
*Only 30 seconds after my watch ticked past 1:19, I heard a near deafening screech in my head.*
***"What the fuck?!"** The thought was so obnoxious and loud that I spit the fluffy pastry from my mouth and directly onto the back of another person, holding tightly to my ears, this did not help.*
*"What's going on? What did they say?" Marley leaned over to me, rubbing my back with a horrified look. Not long after, the man I had spit on turned around with a furious look.*
*"Hey I'm so sorry." I choked out, waving a hand at the man. "My soulmate thought was painful." The man rolled his eyes with an angry huff, taking his cardigan off and turning back to his table.*
*"What did they say y/n?!" There she went again, bouncing like a dodgeball.*
*"What the fuck." My eyes darted to hers, narrowed slightly. She furrowed her brows at me. "He literally thought, what the fuck, so loudly."*
Alex was on the floor giggling like a fiend, she held her stomache as if her guts would spill out with so much joy.
"Nope, you're right." She could barely speak between laughter. "I can't beat that." She promptly wiped the tears from her eyes, composing herself. "So you haven't met him yet?" She let out a final sigh.
"Nope. When I meet him, I kinda wanna slap him." A sly smile made it's way onto my lips. "The little shit thinks the weirdest things! I have had to deal with his thoughts for 4 years, and I'm ready for the complete silent bliss when I meet him." I laid my head back on the couch.
**I would really like a fruit roll up right now.**
"Speak of the idiot, he really wants a fruit roll up right now." Alex shook her head at me.
"Maybe he will be funny?"
"We'll see about that. What was your first soulmate thought?"
-
Tonight was Marley and I's 'introduction night.' Similar to a movie night, we have a night every two weeks where we either introduce the other to a new show or movie, alternating turns.
"I think you'll like this one." She plopped onto the loveseat, nearly throwing and spilling the hot popcorn on me while grabbing the remote. "It's a crime show, just started last year so after this season we can just keep up with it. If you like it of course." The show was flipped onto the first episode, it was a man talking about an unsub, or unidentified subject. Then a younger guy walked in, interrupting him.
"Who is that guy?" The words flew from my mouth before I could even think them.
"Spencer Reid-"
"No, I mean his *real* name. He looks *so* familiar." It felt like my brain was eating itself alive, why did he look so familiar.
"I think his name is Matthew Gray Gubler." Marley shrugged, not taking her eyes off the screen.
"Has he been in anything else but this?"
"He models a lot. That's probably where you saw him." She pushed some magazines around on her coffee table and threw one at me. "He's on page 16, Hilfiger Jean's." I flipped to the page, seeing his face again.
"Wow, he is something else. I must have just unknowingly saw him in a magazine somewhere."
"I know! Once I saw him on here, I knew you would think he was cute too. Plus, he's a genius. I figured this would be another Peter Parker situation again." She teased, poking at my giant crush on Spiderman AKA Toby Maguire a few years ago.
"Shut up!" I snickered, throwing a pillow at her head. My own thoughts were interrupted by one that was not my own.
**I wish Halloween would come faster.**
"Its literally May." I whispered to myself, earning a weird look from Marley. This is the typical weird thought, Halloween is big on his mind.
I of course ended up loving the show. ~~And may or may not have had a huge crush on Spencer Reid already.~~
I informed Marley that we would most certainly be catching up on the show regularly, making that out new weekly thing for a while.
Though I could truly not get that Matthew guy out of my head, and I had a weird feeling it wasn't just because I thought he was super hot.
Matthew
**Who is Matthew Gray Gubler?**
The thought nearly made me spit out my coffee as I walked through the set. I knew for sure that wasn't my thought.
*No shit sherlock.*
Now *that* was my thought.
The question swirled around in my head, I really wanted to just think,
*I'm Matthew Gray Gubler!*
Just to make this whole process easier. Who knows if she could even actually *hear* it if I did answer her, or that she would believe me.
So lost in my train of thoughts, pun intended, I ran right into a punch cart.
"Holy shit!" The punch came spilling down right onto my khaki pants. I rested my forehead on the rim of my coffee mug. "I'm so sorry Terry, I was really caught up in my head."
"It's alright." He pulled a towel from his back pocket, throwing it onto the puddle that was forming on the wood floor. "Thinkin' about a girl?"
"Yes actually, thinking about my soulmate. Let me help you with that." I kneeled down on the floor, wiping up the spill. "Sorry again."
"It's all good Matthew." He dragged the cart to the opposite side of the room.
**Why can I not focus damnit?! This trip is suppose to be fun. Focus y/n. Focus!**
Y/n! I've never heard her name before. Maybe shes getting closer to me.
I set my coffee on the table of the reading room, pulling my script out and sitting next to AJ.
"You seem out of it today, are you feeling okay?" She tapped my shoulder. "I saw you run directly into the lunch cart." She clearly tried to suppress a giggle.
"How did you meet Nathan? How did you do it?" My script was not slammed onto the table, my hands pressed firmly on top of it.
"Are you worried about soulmates again? Matthew, she will come to you-"
"She said my name!!" My hands flailed wilding in the air. "I heard her think it! This sucks." I laughed a bit at the end, feeling ridiculous and vulnerable. Ask phone buzzed on the table, interrupting my dilemma.
"Well I hate to stop you in the middle of this debacle, but we have a film class coming in to observe, I guess sit was suppose to be a surprise." AJ shrugged with a pity smile, which is my least favorite version of a smile. I dramatically slammed my head on the back of my rolling chair, groaning like a child.
"Come on Gubler, we don't even have to do anything, we just have to act normal so they can observe. Let's go educate some college kids." She stood above me, patting my head and dragging my seat from the table a few inches. I reluctantly stood up and left the reading room.
To be clear, if it were any other day than the day that I found out my soulmates name, I would be totally in the game. I love teaching people, I love being an inspiration, but all I could think about was how close yet how far I was from meeting the love of my life. I shook it all off, physically and mentally, while heading to the set.
*Time to get my head in the game.*
I hope my soulmate heard that and started thinking of highschool musical.
-
"Action!" I held my prop gun in my hand while following Shermar, he proceeded to kick a door down that had a camera on the other side to capture it. The class that was observing sat on the other side of the door, seeing all of the behind the scenes that goes on during filming.
To avoid making direct eye contact with the camera, I often look right past it. So instead of making eye contact with the camera, I made it with a girl.
Then it was silent.
I stopped in the doorway, leading AJ to slam right into me on her way through the door.
"What the hell are you doing Matthew?"
"Cut!"
**You have got to be fucking kidding me.**
We did not break our stare, her eyes wide now with the realization.
*Wow.*
The girl sitting next to her was shaking her shoulder violently, but she sat unfazed.
"Can you excuse me for a second?" Bobby Roth, our director for the day looked at me like I was dumb, inevitably giving in.
"Whatever, take 5 guys."
I immediately waltzed past the cameraman and over to, who I could only assume, was my soulmate. The girl next to her was promptly slapping her arm and squealing like a pig, but she was giving her quite the death stare.
*She's my kind of girl already.*
Right as I thought that, she looke duo at me with a large grin and a tilt of the head.
*Shit.*
**Damn, even cuter in person.**
"Thank you." I couldn't suppress the automatic pep in my step meeting her. "I'm Matthew, you must be y/n?" It came out as a question because I was worried I would be wrong, and embarrass myself.
Which I've done, many times.
"You know my name?"
"I uh, I heard you think it." I pointed to my head, nodding awkwardly.
"You are so weird." She laughed, which made my face reddened more 3x more than I'm sure it already was.
"What?" I managed to murmur out.
"Well, you just think about weird stuff, mostly Halloween though." She was slowly smiling more as she spoke of me, which made my heart skip a few beats. She was so much more beautiful than I had pictured her. Her eyes held every intelligent thought that I had ever heard from her, and I knew right then that the eyes were the door to the soul. "Now that I'm here," she finally stood to my level, poking at my chest. "Do you wanna do a couples costume? This year?" She did a cute half shrug, as if I would say no.
"Oh my God, you really are my soulmate." I pulled her into a hug, a tight one, never wanting to let her go now that I'd found her.
"Alright guys! Let's go!" Bobby motioned everyone back to the set.
"Yeah, get out there *Spencer*." She patted her hand on my cheek. I didn't know if I hoped that she *did* see or *didn't* see how much I already liked her on my face, but I could feel the admiration spilling from my features.
"I- I'll talk to you after this!" I stumbled backwards from her, going back to the set and awkwardly running my back into the cameraman.
"Can't wait!" She waved with a flushed face, sitting back down next to her friend who was now shaking both of her shoulders violently.
*This is the best day of my life.*
**Same.**
---------
I've got a few more Soulmat AU ideas if you want more! I just don't know if theres any demand, so LEMME KNOW.

Cinnamon.
The scent of it.
That was the first thing I became aware of.
It was so… familiar and spicy and warm. The warmth spread into my cheeks and brought a smile to my lips, small and unbidden. Sunlight against my closed eyelids was the second thing I became aware of as it melted away the last dregs of sleepiness from my mind. I'd been dreaming. I wondered what about… must have been something good. I quietly yawned and stretched where I lay flat on my back before, slowly by surely, I opened my eyes.
Then I froze and my heart gave a violent jolt.
That wasn't my ceiling.
This wasn't my bed.
That-
That wasn't my arm draped across my stomach with its hand resting on my hip.
I mean, not unless it had gained some serious muscle mass from pumping the soft serve/milkshake machine at work. And even then, those muscles would have had to of been on some sort of weird time delay for them to just so suddenly and quite literally pop into existence overnight while I'd been asleep. Now granted, I don't know a lot about the way human anatomy works, particularly when it comes to muscles. That said, I think it was a safe bet to say that none of it worked that way.
Oh gosh, and I was just now becoming aware of a second unidentified arm. This one beneath the small of my back. I had to wonder how it'd gotten under me without waking me up. Or maybe… maybe it hadn't so much as gotten under me as I had rolled on top of it? Gah, who knew? And honestly, who really cared? The point wasn't how it got there but just the fact that it was there!
Confusion and panic levels skyrocketing, I tore my eyes away from the mystery arms, resting my head back into the mystery pillow to stare back up at the mystery ceiling. Then I craned my neck to the left to take in the mystery room with all the mystery clothing tossed about everywhere. Then I craned it to the right to-
-to come face to quite literal face with… well, a face.
My hand shot up to clamp over my mouth, silencing the startled gasp trying to escape. Heart slamming against my ribcage now, my wide eyes looked at the face. And I mean, really looked at it now that I was over the initial jumpscare. And I realized…
It was Lea's face.
More precisely, Lea's sleeping face.
Fingers still clutched over my lips, my rapid breathing through my nose gradually began to try and normalize as last night slowly started coming back to me. The dinner with Saïx. My nervous babbling that had led to the impromptu sleepover in Lea's room. The lizard - no, not lizard, salamander - named Bruni. Sitting in Lea's bed with him while we watched movies together. Though it hadn't so much as been watching as more so talking over them. And laughing. Oh yeah, there had been a lot of that, oddly enough. Well, odd for me, anyway. I remembered making it all the way through the first movie and starting the second one, but I couldn't remember finishing it. I guess I must have dozed off somewhere in the middle of it.
Lea too, it seemed. He was now curled up on his side next to me. Both of us were still on top of the comforter and if you hadn't guessed already, those were in fact his arms across my stomach and under my back. Though they certainly hadn't been there before I'd nodded off. Neither had been that leg of his that was currently slung across both mine, which was a thing that was just now coming to my attention. There must have been a remarkable amount of shifting around in our sleep on both our parts last night.
Well, well, Slumbering Lea… we meet again. We really have to stop bumping into each other like this.
But now the real question was… what to do?
Extract myself and make a hasty retreat without waking him, of course! I'd done it once before and, by gum, I could do it again! Sure, last time had been a little easier, since we'd just been sitting on a couch and the whole situation had been a little less… tangled. But so what if this time around was a little more challenging? I like a challenge!
I drew in a long breath, held it for a few seconds, then released it as soundlessly as possible. Okay, let's do this! First order of business? The top arm. Should be simple enough, right? Next would be the leg, which might be a bit trickier, but I'd cross that bridge when I got to it. Debating the best strategy for dealing with the arm for a few seconds, I at last settled on gripping one of his fingers between my index and thumb and gingerly, oh so very gingerly picking it up.
Easy does it now. No rush. Remember, slow and steady wins the race!
I'd only managed to lift his hand a couple inches however when I heard a low noise in his throat. I stiffened, stopping immediately and turning my head to look over at him, fearing I'd disturbed him from his dreams. But no, he seemed to be making the sound in his sleep. Frowning and furrowing his brow too, no less.
Suddenly, his hand broke free of my grasp and latched back onto my hip before both his arms were pulling me to him, hugging tightly around my waist as I was brought chest-to-chest with him. My cheeks burned red hot and I had to swallow my squeak as he buried his face into the crook of my neck, nuzzling his nose in close and inhaling deeply. Then he sighed and his whole body began to relax once more as he released a soft snore.
...jeez, he really was such a clingy sleeper!
Also, this had just made escaping a whole lot harder. What with him more firmly wrapped around me now, I had no clue how I was going to disentangle myself without waking him up.
His hold on me had at least slackened a bit, if only enough for me to ease back slightly. We were still pretty much nose to nose, but I had managed to regain a few bare inches between our bodies before being stopped by his arms still looped around my middle. Pondering how to overcome this new obstacle, I blew a few stray, frazzled bangs out of my face and looked at him again.
I mean, it's not like I had much else to do at the moment. Not while I was so thoroughly and undeniably stuck.
...gosh, he really was pretty, wasn't he? One might even say painfully so. Even with his guyliner all smudged and smeared like that. Even while he was asleep. Or perhaps, even more so while he was asleep. I don't know… maybe it just seemed that way because I could stare at him so openly without fear of being caught and getting flustered over it.
I wish we were real.
Those words suddenly came drifting back to me once more and I had to wonder...would it really have been so bad? If that's what he'd really said and truly meant it? I mean, one would think I should have been happy to hear those words, what with my silly little crush on him. And actually, I think there had been a tiny part of me that hadbeen happy. But it had gotten swiftly smothered and crushed under sheer, blind, uncontrollable panic. After all, there's a big difference between hoping for something and actually getting it. And just because a tiny wish in your heart might have the possibility of coming true, doesn't mean you're actually ready for it to, or… or prepared to open yourself up and deal with being so… so…
...vulnerable...
Not that it mattered, of course. Because that's not what he'd actually meant. He'd told me so himself. Stated it in no uncertain terms.
But… if say, for the sake of argument, he had actually meant it… what was I so afraid of? Really? Lea would never hurt me… right? No, I don't think he could, even if he tried, even if he wanted to. He was too sweet. He was too caring and gentle. He was-
Oh dear god, he was waking up.
Sucking in a breath, I tensed as I saw him start to shift and stir, as his eyelashes gave a little flutter before cracking ever so slightly open.
I, of course, proceeded to do the only logical and rational thing I could do in such a situation.
I screwed my eyes shut and pretended to be asleep.
Deal with the awkwardness of him knowing I'd been watching him while he slumbered? Uh-uh. Nope. No thank you. But crud, now I was too rigid, my face too scrunched up in my distress. He'd never buy the whole snoozing act, not like this! Come on, Elsa, be more natural! Relax, damn it, relax!
My mouth fell open and my tongue lolled out.
...not that relaxed!
I quickly tucked my tongue back in and cinched my mouth shut, hoping against all hope he hadn't woken up enough to witness that bit of unseemliness. If he had, there was no reaction. None that I could hear anyway. In fact, I wasn't hearing much of anything from him. Nor had his arms so much as even budged one millimeter from my waist. He… had woken up… right? Should I check? No, no, that might give me away. His breathing, at least, no longer sounded like he was asleep. But if that was true, what was he even-
A sudden heavy sigh from him startled me, almost making me jump and blow my cover, but I barely managed to keep it together. Then I felt him removing his hands, taking extra care and caution when easing the one out from underneath me. I dutifully and with great earnest continued to play dead. The bed then shifted and I knew he had stood up. There were a few beats of silence before a soft rustling noise could be heard… the shuffling of clothing, maybe? I wasn't quite sure. Listening to it for a few more seconds, my curiosity got the better of me and I furtively peeked one eye open.
My face erupted into searing, molten heat so fast, you would have mistaken it for the surface of the sun.
For there Lea stood - his back to me in all its leanly muscled glory - in nothing but his boxers.
My eye slammed shut again.
But not before I had a chance to see that said boxers were covered in cute, little cartoon ninjas.
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! Why was he naked?!
Well, not technically naked, since he still had something on over his-
What the actual frick, was I actually arguing semantics with myself right now?!
...I should look again.
What?! No, I absolutely should not!
I should. Purely for reconnaissance reasons, of course, just to keep tabs on what he's doing.
No. No! I'm putting my foot down on this. What if he's even more naked now?
Why on earth would he be more naked?
I don't friggin' know! But did I really want to risk it?!
I'm gonna look.
Don't you dare.
I'm doing it.
Don't-
I looked.
...oh thank goodness, he was more clothed now. I don't think I'd still be breathing if he hadn't been. He'd put on a tanktop and PJ bottoms and was now ruffling his fingers through his hair as he moved over to crouch next to the terrarium, checking in on Bruni. Curling his finger up and down at the little guy, he then stood to his full height and started to turn in my direction. I squeezed my eyes shut once more. There was a pause before I heard some movement, followed by the sound of the door leading out into the living room opening and then closing as quietly as possible.
A breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding all but exploded out of me as I flopped over onto my back once more. I just concentrated on the messy collage of posters up on the ceiling, waiting for my frantic pulse to settle down and desperately trying to block out any attempts made by my stupid brain to bring up images of a certain redhead down to almost nothing but his birthday suit.
After a minute, I began to hear what sounded like the muffled clang of pots and pans beyond that door he'd disappeared through, most likely coming from the kitchen. Lea was making breakfast. For himself and Saïx. For me too, I suppose, come to think of it.
That's when it clicked. Why he had undressed and changed. We were going to be seen this morning by his roommate and he hadn't wanted to look like he'd slept in his clothes. Not after what had supposedly been a, er, ahem… wild night of passion with his girlfriend. That had actually been some good thinking on Lea's part.
I laid there for a few minutes more, seeing as how there wasn't exactly any rush for me to be up yet. I took the time I needed to make sure I had fully composed myself and was ready to face this day and whatever new challenges it may hold. Or at the very least, whatever new challenges breakfast may hold. Finally, I felt ready enough to sit myself up and get off the bed. I started crossing the room towards the door but only got half way before I heard it.
Voices beyond the door. Two of them. One obviously Lea. The other? Going to go with the obvious choice here and say Saïx.
I immediately froze mid step as I recalled last night. Recalled the last things I'd said and done in front of him before pulling a vanishing act into Lea's room. Oh gosh, how was I ever going to face him after that? I couldn't. Plain and simple. If I went out there, Saïx would merely take one look at me and I'd just shrivel up and die of humiliation right then and there. But what else could I do? I had to leave Lea's room at some point. It's not like I could just hide in here forever!
...hey, now there was an idea. I could just hide in here forever.
Damn it, Elsa, no! Stop being so ridiculous! You're going to woman up and march your little hiney straight out there! Saïx was a nice guy. He wasn't cruel. He probably wouldn't even bring it up, just pretend like it'd never happened. If he could be an adult about it and have some tact, then so could I!
My nostrils flared in determination and I gave my cheeks a couple light slaps before nodding firmly, making my way towards the door again. I reached it. My hand was going for the doorknob. My fingers were closing around it. I was about to turn it. Honestly, I really, truly was! But then I stopped again. This time however, it had nothing to do with Saïx or my anxiety.
No, this time what brought me up short was my reflection staring back at me in the long mirror hanging on the back of the door. More specifically, at what I was wearing. At my penguin-printed stockings, wrinkled now from what was most likely some tossing and turning last night. At my dress, rumpled and creased and looking quite clearly slept in.
Shoot, if Lea had taken care to not make it obvious that actual zilch had happened in his bed last night, I should make the same effort, shouldn't I? But unlike him, I didn't have half my wardrobe just scattered about the room for me to change into. Fudge, what was I even supposed to look like after spending the night with a boyfriend? I had no clue! No personal experience to draw from.
Think, think… okay, how did girls look and dress the morning after in movies and TV shows?
I pursed my lips to one side, turning around so my eyes could scan the bedroom. Then I took a step forward, shifting some of the discarded clothes on the carpet about with my foot. I bent down to pick one up, saw it was pants and shook my head, tossing it aside. Another step, some more sifting. Ah! There! My fingers closed around some fabric and I pulled it free of the others before straightening back up, taking it in both hands and spreading it out to reveal a shirt. A tee-shirt, to be more precise, one that was black and bore a faded, cracked symbol that kind of looked like a wide, fancy, angular V. Beneath it was a washed out image of some sort of red, mechanical-looking lion.
I frowned at the top.
Oh gosh, was I really going to go through with this?
...the answer was yes. Yes, I was.
Locking the bedroom door, I quickly shimmied out of my stockings and tossed them onto the bed. Next went my dress, joining the tights on the mattress. Then I pulled the shirt on over my head, doing my best to ignore his boy scent clinging to it as I shoved my arms through the sleeves and tugged the hem as far down as it would go, which turned out to be about mid-thigh. It fit surprisingly well. Maybe that shouldn't have come as such a surprise - the boy did have a tendency to wear his shirts rather tight.
...not that I noticed such things.
I turned to face my reflection once more, giving myself a quick once over. Yes, I think this would do quite nicely. But then my eyes settled on my braid in the mirror, messy and a bit tangled. Clearly, that wouldn't do. I pulled it free, quickly unraveling it before combing my fingers through my hair a few times and ruffling it about a bit. There. That looked more appropriately bed-tousled now.
Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Bruni out and about in his enclosure, eyeing me from atop one of his rocks. I grinned and asked him softly, "How do I look?"
He licked his eyeball.
I snorted, muttering, "One of these days I'm going to have to figure out what that means. For now, I'll just take it as a compliment." I then looked back down at the doorknob. My hand started reaching for it, but hesitated midway. My fingers clenched into a ball. Then unclenched. I took a tiny, trembling breath against the nervous tightening in my chest.
Alright, Elsa, quick mental checklist. Boyfriend shirt? On. Legs? Bare. Hair? Down. Plan of attack? Locked and loaded. You got this. I gave myself a quick shake, hitched my chin, squared my shoulders and opened the door.
Saïx seated at the dining table was the first thing I saw when I silently padded out. His back was to me as he took a sip from a glass of water, his eyes seemingly glued to his laptop screen, free hand tapping away at the keyboard. There was a warm plate of food on the table between it and him, along with a second full dish laid out before the empty seat to his right.
Lea was in the kitchen, fixing another plate together. He didn't look my way immediately for he seemed too focused on his task, but he must have heard me open the door for he called out a chipper, "Mornin', babycakes! Hope you're hungry! I whipped us up some eggs benny and crispy home fr-"
This was the exact second he turned to look at me, eyes going round.
Which, incidentally, was also the same exact second he dropped the plate he was holding.
"Shit!" he jerked back as it shattered against the linoleum, making food spatter everywhere and me wince. He squatted down and started snatching up the broken shards. However his slack-jawed gaze drifted back up towards me, his hands slowing. Then he flinched and dropped all the jagged pieces, hissing out a soft, "Fuck," as he looked back down at his now bleeding finger.
I rushed forward, passing Saïx (who hadn't even so much as looked up, just remained concentrated on his computer) and stretching my hand out towards Lea, "Here, let me help you with-"
He blanched and yelped, "Don't!" Leaping towards me, he slipped on some Hollandaise but managed to catch himself with a desperate grab for the edge of the countertop before finally reaching me, grabbing my arms and stopping me in my tracks right at the threshold of the kitchen. Then, with face full of stern intensity and utmost seriousness, he told me, "Foot slice, you will!"
I stared blankly back at him.
"Open!" he frantically tacked after a beat.
Oh. Well then, okay, when you put it that way, now it made total sense.
Except for, ya know… not. Not one bit.
He cleared his throat and tried again, "You'll slice your foot open! So don't go in there. Don't even worry about it, 'kay? I'll take care of it." I gave a slow nod and he puffed out a relieved breath. Then he made a pained tch through his teeth, releasing me to stick his still bloody fingertip into his mouth before taking it back out to shoot a tiny scowl at the cut.
Okay, so there had been a minor hiccup. But one shattered plate changed nothing. My plan of attack was still a go.
Ignoring the heat I felt creeping up the back of my neck now, my face hardened with resolve as I told him, "Good morning." Then while he was still distracted by giving his finger the evil eye, I stretched up onto my tiptoes and planted a kiss firmly to his cheek.
That was it. That was my whole plan.
Saïx better be getting a good eyeful, seeing how this bit of theater (complete with costume) was being put on purely for his benefit.
Lea's spine snapped rigid as he locked a wide-eyed stare on me. Strange. Why did he suddenly seem so flushed? Dropping my gaze to his injured finger, I stepped closer to him, taking his hand in mine as I asked, "Are you okay? Let me see."
He opened his mouth and words came out. Or at least, I think they were supposed to be words. However, they sounded more like garbled gibberish. I blinked then looked back up at him, knitting my eyebrows together. He abruptly staggered back a step, yanking his hand free of my grasp so he could cough into his fist and thump it against his chest, croaking out, "Fine." Further coughing and chest thumping, then he repeated with more strength, "Fine. I'm, uh… I'm f-fine… Chair!" I jumped in surprise as he suddenly lunged for a seat, the one across the table from Saïx. Pulling it out, he said, "Please. You. Down. Er… here?"
I frowned uncertainly before sitting in it.
I mean, I think that's what he was asking me to do.
As he pushed it in behind me, I said, "You're certainly very, ah… eloquent this morning."
"Sorry," he chuckled weakly. "Better mouth, I'll make." He tensed, one eye ticking before grounding out slowly, "I'll. Talk. Better." Then he shoved the second plate of food that was already on the table - which I assumed had originally been for him - from its spot in front of the empty chair over towards me before he all but bolted back into the kitchen.
...why did he keep talking like Yoda?
Glancing across the table, I noticed that I didn't seem to be the only one confused. Behind his sleek glasses (that I'd just realized he was wearing now that I could fully see his face) Saïx's dull stare was flicking back and forth between me and Lea, one eyebrow quirked.
I heard Lea grunt out a low "Ow" behind me, followed by the tinkle of what I assumed was more of those plate shards. Seemingly losing interest again, Saïx's eyes returned to his laptop as he called out dryly, "Might I suggest the broom and dustpan?"
There was a long pause. Then a sheepish laugh, "Right. Broom. Smart."
The sound of feet scrambling, followed by a thud, then Lea suddenly appeared over next to the small door leading into the pantry. Retrieving said cleaning implements out of it, he slammed it shut once more before our eyes met and he froze. Then with a dopey, lopsided grin, he clicked his tongue and shot me a finger gun, nearly dropping the broom with the action. He fumbled to catch it, winced, then darted back around the corner, disappearing into the kitchen once more.
...he was acting so weird.
Sighing, I took my fork up in hand and started picking at my food, eating a few of the fried potatoes. I could hear Lea sweeping back there, intermixed with what also sounded like him throwing together another plate of food for himself. After a few more minutes, he reappeared at the pantry to shove both items back in, the broom handle popping back out to smack him in the face before he managed to slam the door shut with a tiny growl. Then he looped back around through the kitchen, coming out the other side with his fresh dish in hand and taking a seat between me and Saïx. As his plate clattered unceremoniously onto the table, I noticed his eggs Benedict looked a lot more sloppily thrown together than my own.
He looked at me. Then down at his breakfast. Then back at me, this time with another grin and an oddly hoarse, "Hi."
"...hi?" I smiled back hesitantly.
His lips parted, then clicked shut again. Then parted once more, taking in a breath like he was actually going to say something this time. But nope, false alarm. He hastily looked away and plonked his elbow on the table, propping the front of his chin against his palm, teeth gnawing on the side of his hand as his knee started jiggling up and down. His eyes kept flicking about, one second staring straight ahead, the next at me out of his peripheral. Then back and forth again. And yet again. That redness started creeping into his face once more.
I elected to fixate on my food, cutting into my poached egg and slipping a bite into my mouth. I didn't know what else to do, really. What to say. There was something… heavy in the air, though I didn't know quite what exactly. Whatever it was, it made finding words difficult, even for small talk. If Saïx noticed the odd tension, he gave no outward sign as he continued to type away at the keys. Several minutes ticked by where that tip-tapping from the laptop was all that could be heard.
Suddenly I felt tiny pleasant tingles trailing through my scalp. With a start, I looked up to discover Lea watching me through half-lidded eyes as he gently tucked my pale bangs behind my ear. His fingers went on from there to tangle themselves in my hair and lightly run through the length of it, all the way down to the bottom, eliciting a little shiver from me. Then our eyes met, he blinked, gaze widening and snatching his hand back. His fingers splayed and flexed before curling into a fist that he shoved between his knees as he let out a gruff, "Sorry."
Face hot, I averted my eyes. "What for? You have no reason to be."
He was just doing his part as my rent-a-boyfriend, after all.
"Right. Sorry… about the, uh… the…" he cleared his throat, "...about the first sorry."
And once again, Saïx's typing took over in dominating the table conversation.
I put my fork down to tug at the hem of my borrowed shirt. I should have found a longer one. I hadn't taken into account the fact that it'd ride up a bit while I was sitting. Unfortunately, pulling at it seemed to be doing little good.
Making a small noise in his throat, Lea stared hard up at the ceiling, knee frantically bouncing once more.
"Did you say something?" I asked him as I retrieved my fork.
"What? No. Me? No. Mm-mm," he shook his head rapidly. Then he inhaled sharply through his nose and held it, unblinking eyes staring off into space for a few seconds before releasing the breath noisily. "Actually! Saïx! Brother! Bro! Brometheus! Bromie G-Funk! C-3PBro! My one and bronly! How'd, um… how'd work go last night?"
Saïx's fingers stilled and he glanced towards Lea, frowning at him over the rim of his glasses. "...you already asked me that while you were cooking earlier."
"Oh," he chuckled. "Right." Saïx resumed clacking away. He couldn't have gotten more than a few words written however before Lea spoke up once more, "What was the answer again?"
Twitching, Saïx came to another stop. "It went fine," he enunciated, tone flat and even.
"That's right, I remember now," Lea nodded slowly. "Heh… riveting."
Saïx went back to ignoring him.
With only a few bites left on my dish at this point, I glanced over at Lea's and realized he'd hardly touched his. "You haven't eaten much."
"Huh?" He glanced my way, crimson flooding back into his cheeks. Then down at his breakfast, both eyebrows raised as if he wasn't exactly sure what it was he was looking at now. "I…? Oh! Silly me. Forgot. Must be distracted by all this… lively discourse!" Seizing his fork, he scooped it through some potatoes, brought it up to his mouth and bit down.
Straight into the metal fork handle.
For you see, he'd picked it up the wrong way.
"Been using forks long?" Saïx deadpanned, not looking up from his laptop screen.
Lea's eyelids drooped as he flipped him the bird. And there his knee went again, jounce, jounce, jouncing away at a mile a minute as he tossed the silverware back down onto the table. "You know what? Don't think I'm all that hungry after all."
I tipped my head to one side, squinting at him. What was with him today? First with fumbling things - the plate, the broom - and just his unusual amounts of clumsiness in general. Then of course there'd been his jumbled and incoherent talking. Now the mixup with the fork and he had no appetite? Not to mention he was still really red. Like, super red. It was almost as if he were-
Wait… could it be…? Was he…?
Of course! That must be it! Oh gosh, it was so obvious now! Why hadn't I realized it sooner?
"Are you sick?" I leaned towards him, pressing the backs of my curled fingers to his forehead. He stiffened under my touch, going stock still. I frowned, "You're a little warm. You might have a fever." I trailed my knuckles down to his cheek, checking to see if the temperature was consistent throughout his face.
"Fine!" he snagged my wrist and abruptly stood, knee whacking the underside of the table as he did so, causing all the plates to give a violent rattle. "I'm… I feel fine! Just…" he hastily dropped my wrist, his hand going to drag along the nape of his neck, "...it's just it's... way too hot in this place! Yeah! I'm gonna go open up a window, get some fresh air in here!" He practically blurred into the kitchen, throwing the one just over the sink wide open with a loud bang before rushing back into his seat, nearly toppling it and him over with his momentum.
"Ah, much better, don'tcha think?" he beamed. Then without waiting for an answer, he started shoveling food into his mouth like a man starved - thankfully with the correct end of the fork this time. He only stopped when he realized we were both staring at him. He swallowed his current mouthful and gave a small laugh, "Er… turns out there was a bit of a rumbly in my tumbly after all?"
...if this was him trying to convince us he wasn't suffering from some sort of bug, he was failing. Miserably.
With a drawn-out sigh through his nose, Saïx slowly began to rise from his own chair. As he picked up his own plate, I was a little surprised to see he had already finished every last morsel on it. I hadn't noticed him eating at all. I hadn't even thought his fingers had ever left his keyboard this whole time.
As he walked past us towards the kitchen, I finished the last bite on my plate before standing as well. Lea glanced my way out of the corner of his eye while chewing, so I took the opportunity to smile softly at him and place my hand on his shoulder. The muscle twitch beneath my fingertips and his jaw stilled as I told him quietly, "Thank you. It was delicious."
Then I took my plate and turned to follow Saïx into the kitchen. As I walked, I could feel this tiny itch in the center of my back right between my shoulderblades. I think Lea's gaze was still on me. Shrugging it off, I came to a stop next to Saïx as he ran the faucet over his dish and squirted some soap into a sponge. I got in line to wash my own plate, setting it down on the countertop beside the sink while I waited.
Saïx gave me a quick look and we exchanged smiles. The tiny, awkward smiles of two antisocial shut-ins. Oddly enough, I felt comfortable in our mutual introversion. I hadn't even thought once about the way I'd embarrassed myself last night in front of him. Though, I guess that could just be because I'd been too distracted by Lea's weirdness all morning. Regardless, Saïx and I then settled into a companionable silence as he set to work.
And still that itch along my spine remained.
A breeze drifted in through the window over the sink, brushing along my skin and toying with strands of my hair. I gave a low hum at how nice it felt and I reached back to gather my locks together, sweeping them forward over one shoulder where I idly began to finger-comb them.
The scraping of Lea's chair along the floor was the only warning I had, one that I paid little mind to.
The next I knew, his arms were slipping around my waist to hug me from behind and his lips were pressing a soft, tender kiss to the side of my neck. Shockwaves of icy heat cascaded out from that one small point to ripple throughout the rest of my body.
I was forgetting to do something. I think it was important. Possibly even life sustaining and-
Ah. Breathing. That was it.
Lea lingered for a few seconds more, his breath warming the now hypersensitive skin there and I had to suppress a small quiver. The tip of his nose brushed along my jawline as he then brought his lips up to my ear, whispering silkily, "For appearances." Aka, for Saïx, standing not two feet away from us. Lea planted one more swift peck to my temple before withdrawing his arms and pulling away.
Oh gosh, he'd been right. It was really so very hot in here, wasn't it? Sweltering, in fact. Were there more windows we could open? I think I was on the verge of melting here.
I slowly brought a hand up to cover the spot where it still tingled from his lips, casting a brief glance back over my shoulder. Lea had settled himself against the counter on the opposite side of the kitchen, his fingers drumming along its edge, his head bowed and eyes darting about, landing on anything and everything but me. I looked forward once more, biting down into my lower lip and rubbing the back of my leg with my other foot. The skin under my palm felt like it was searing and I could swear he'd left a scorch mark there. I didn't know what to do with this. How to react. I mean, it was okay… right? I had given him permission after all to kiss any bare skin with the only thing off limits being directly on the mouth. He'd just never kissed… there before. No one had. I hadn't expected it to be so, er… intimate.
With a start, I realized Saïx was studying me, expression unreadable. To be fair, that's how his face usually was. Still, I suddenly felt self-conscious and I had to resist the urge to fidget under his scrutiny. He looked away, sticking his dish on the drying rack and reaching for mine, muttering, "I'll take care of it."
I frowned, "But-"
"Wouldn't want another broken plate," he said simply as he put it under the flow of steaming water. I furrowed my brow at the statement and he closed his eyes. "You look like you might be catching the same illness Lea has."
Blast it all, I needed to figure out how to get this whole stupid blushing issue of mine under control! It used to not be such a problem. I never used to blush at all, not until Lea waltzed into my life.
The big, dumb, beautiful jerk.
"...thank you," I murmured, referring to my dish with a nod, unable to come up with anything better to say. Perhaps now would just be a good time to escape. I turned to go only to end up stumbling back into the counter, biting back a yelp.
For I hadn't expected Lea to suddenly be standing right there, smack dab in front of me all super close now. His hand was raised, frozen midway to my face. He looked guilty, like a kid who'd been caught reaching into the cookie jar. His wide eyes darted from me to his hand and back again. Then he muttered under his breath, "Welp. This is happening."
I cocked an eyebrow. "Wha-?"
That one syllable was all I got out before he'd suddenly hoisted me up and slung me over his shoulder like a sack of flour. My fingers scrabbled and clutched at the back of his tanktop, trying to find purchase so I could prop myself up.
Just what the heck was he doing now?!
He erupted into booming laughter and slapped Saïx on the shoulder. "Well, my dude, got another hour to kill before my class starts, so I think the lil lady and I are gonna head back to my room for round two!" My head shot up, face roasting. Excuse me? "Or is it round eight? Round nine? Bah, I've lost track since last night!" Well that was certainly a bold claim there, stud. "That's right, a lil more of the ol' forbidden polka, if ya know what I mean." Even that oven mitt over there knew what you meant. Seriously, you can stop now. "Boinking! That's what I mean!" And yet, he was still going. "Ya know, really rattle the ol' headboard! Except, ah, heh… no headboard. But still-" I kneed him in the gut, forcing a grunt out of him. I think he got the hint. "Right! Anyway! I know you're heading to bed now, so we'll try to keep the roughhousing to a minimum! No promises though! Sleep tight, man!"
Thankfully, mercifully, he spun us around then so he could carry me off to his room. That brought me face-to-face with Saïx as Lea jogged off. The man's expression was as indecipherable as ever as he watched us go, but if I had to take a guess, I'd say he looked just about as bewildered as I felt. That was the last thing I saw before Lea crossed the threshold and kicked his door shut behind him.
My back was suddenly hitting the mattress as he dropped me into his bed. I sat up quickly, bracing myself on one hand as I tucked my legs in beside me and yanked down the hem of my shirt. Then I looked up at Lea and my whole body tensed.
He was standing at the foot of the bed, so very still and just… staring at me. His face was a mask, giving nothing away. But his eyes… now those were a different story. They were so intense, so dark and… swirling with something I couldn't quite put a name to. It was sucking all the oxygen out of the room. It made my fingers unconsciously grip at the comforter more tightly. Made my pulse race and the spot on my neck where his lips had been prickle slightly.
Neither of us moved or spoke for several seconds. Several… very long seconds. When I did finally manage to find my voice, it was small and uncertain as I asked, "...Lea?"
He blinked at the sound of his name. Once, twice, then slowly gave his head a small shake, like he was coming out of some sort of trance. He grimaced, bringing one hand up to cover his face but not before I spotted some of that redness creeping back into it. He groaned, dragging his palm down to just over his mouth instead, eyes narrowed on the floor as he grumbled, "Sorry, I'm… I was just… ah, nevermind."
He turned away, dragging his feet towards the bathroom door and stretching one arm over his head as he went. "I'm gonna hop in the shower. I take 'em long, so you should have more than enough time to change, but I'll knock before coming back in justa be on the safe side. Saïx's probably back in his own room already, so you can wait out there if ya want. Or in here. Wherever. Then I can drop ya off any place you want on my way to class, 'kay?"
It took him glancing back my way from beyond the door frame for me to realize he was actually waiting for some sort of reply. "...okay," was the best I could come up with, still in the same tone I'd said his name. He gave a tired-looking smile and a small nod before closing the door. It wasn't until I heard the shower running that all that tension coiling inside of me at last dispersed and my whole body slumped.
Something strange had just happened. I didn't know what. All I knew was I felt relief now that it was over. But also… oddly enough, a bit… disappointed?
Shaking the feeling away, I scooched myself off the bed and quickly changed back into my own clothes, leaving his shirt on the mattress. Then I slipped into my ankle boots, zipping them up before pulling my hair back into a loose ponytail. Not forgetting the Twilight University course catalog, I grabbed it off the nightstand, my fingers fiddling with one of its corners as I glanced about the room.
It was actually feeling a bit claustrophobic in here, so maybe waiting out in the living room would be for the best. Or better yet, out on the sidewalk where I could get some fresh air. Yeah, that sounded like just what I needed right now. Giving Bruni a tiny wave with one finger, I moved to the door and quietly opened it a crack to peek out.
I could make out the dining table, where the only thing left on it was Lea's half eaten breakfast - Saïx had probably felt zero obligation to clean up after his brother. His laptop was gone so it looked like he had indeed retreated to his own bedroom. I quietly slipped out, softly shutting the door behind me before leaning back against it, closing my eyes and heaving a low sigh through my nose.
"You two aren't really dating."
Those five little words made me jolt and nearly topple over, but I steadied myself against the door. My breathing shallow, I glanced to the left to discover Saïx standing in his own doorway, arms crossed and shoulder propped against the frame. His eyes were pinning me with a flat look, his lips settled into an almost imperceptible frown.
I paled, both eyebrows shooting up my forehead as I stammered, "I… We… That is… How did you-"
"Don't worry," he harrumphed, turning his head to one side. "Your secret is safe with my indifference."
...well that was good
At least, I think it was.
I tucked in my bottom lip, eyes shifting about for a few seconds. "...what... gave it away?"
"I wish we were real," he recited Lea's words blandly, the same ones that had been haunting me since last night. So Saïx had overheard that after all. "There were other things after that. Things I might have overlooked otherwise despite the fact that Lea can be painfully transparent sometimes."
My head tilted to the left. "What do you mean?"
He held my gaze for a long moment. Then his eyes closed and he gave a soft, almost amused hmph. "That would be telling. Regardless, it'd probably be for the best if you kept him away from alcohol for the remainder of your little charade, however long that may be." He turned his back to me, reaching for his door but then stopped. "And please… try to be careful with my brother. I'd rather not see him get hurt."
"...hurt?" I blinked. "What-"
But he simply closed his door, leaving me to wonder at his cryptic words.
Tumblr media
"Actually, could you please drop me off at the mall instead?"
Lea glanced my way, tipping his head forward so he could look at me over his aviators. Then he smirked, pushing the sunglasses back up with his middle finger as his eyes returned to the road and he flicked off his turn signal. "Good for you," he said as we sped past my apartment complex.
I shrugged, twisting a tendril of my ponytail between my fingers. "I'm just going to talk to them. It's no big deal."
"Sure that's all it is," he nodded solemnly, still grinning. He was back to his usual self again. Not a trace left of that weirdness from earlier this morning. Guess that shower he took really did the trick. "You're gonna love Sally and Jack. They're quite the characters… bit oddball, but some of the nicest, friendliest people you'll ever meet. And I'm calling it now: they're gonna adore you. I wouldn't be surprised if they offered you the lead in their musical after only talking to ya for five minutes."
Snorting, I rolled my eyes, "That's not how it works."
"You're right. I'm selling you short." Out popped that dimpled of his, "Make that three minutes."
"Shush," I shoved his shoulder and he chuckled as he turned the car into the Dusk Town Center parking lot.
"Alright, alright, I'll shush up about it," he mimed zipping his lips. "You know where Halloween Town is in there, right? Remember how to get to Blitzball Sports from the food court? It's not too far past that, just keep an eye out for the swirling dark vortex of spook and nightmare, ya can't miss it."
"Sounds like I'm in for a treat," I gave a small smile.
"Something like that," he snerked as he pulled up to the curb in front of the mall entrance, the flow of shoppers coming and going around us thick at the moment. Lea reached across me to open my car door and I was mildly irked at the tiny flutter my heart gave in response to his sudden nearness. He didn't pull back right away, instead raising his sunglasses to sit atop his hair as he looked over at me, his eyes crinkling. Then his hand cupped the back of my head, pulling me close so he could plant a light kiss to my forehead. "Have fun, meu chuchuzinho," he beamed, his fingers mussing up my bangs.
I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Portuguese," he chirped, answering my unvoiced question, "for my lil squash!"
Not even gracing that with a reply, I just heaved a sigh, unbuckled my seatbelt, smoothed my hair and got out of the car.
He called out after me, "We'll say that one's a maybe! And oh! Almost forgot. If you run into Vanibutt at Halloween Town, don't take anything that lil punkass says too seriously. He's like that 'round all girls. My guess? His mom didn't give him enough hugs as a kid. Just call him Beetlejuice, got it? He likes it."
My eyelids drooped. "Somehow I highly doubt that," I said, closing the car door before he could make any further wisecracks.
He just winked and made heart hands at me through the window before driving away. I shook my head as I watched him go, face warming as my fingertips brushed over my forehead at the same spot where his lips had just been.
I hadn't mentioned anything to him about what Saïx had said to me. About the fact that he'd figured out our little secret. Somehow, I'd got the impression from Saïx that our little talk was supposed to stay just between us. I guess it really wouldn't have made a difference if Lea knew one way or another. Still, it felt weird not telling him. Maybe Saïx would tell Lea himself in his own time. Puffing out a breath, I waited until I could no longer see his car before I turned and passed through those double doors leading into the food court.
It didn't take me long to find my way back to Blitzball Sports. Business was slow in there at the moment and I could see inside where two employees were bouncing a ball back and forth between them. They honestly looked like a couple of beach bums, the shorter one with shaggy, sandy hair and the other with a 'do done up into a large, orange coif. Next door at the Glass Slipper, I could see the shoe clerk there - a blonde girl in her teens - being run ragged by a particularly nasty looking customer and her two bratty daughters. Ah, the joys and glamor of customer service. Silently sending my sympathy to the poor salesperson, I pushed onward.
Hm, let's see here… Hair, Here, Everywhere? No, that was a hair and beauty salon. Looking past the Flower Gleam And Glow poster on the window boasting a new anti-aging cream, I spotted one of the stylists - an energetic young woman whose employment in a barber shop seemed rather ironic. Her long flaxen hair down to her ankles had probably never known the firm snip of a pair of scissors.
Next to that, we had… what did that old, broken, retro sign even say? Space Paranoids? Yeesh, it was certainly gaudy with all those light-up neon tubes decorating its walls, wasn't it? Oh gosh, I think it was a laser tag place. I didn't even know those still existed nowadays.
Then there was the little kiosk in the middle of the walkway, dubbed The Key Graveyard. Some sort of key copy booth, I think. I edged my way around it, giving it a wide berth. The bald, old man working it had creepy eyes that gave me the willies.
Oh, now there was a store name I recognized: The Crayon Box. And what luck, Naminé was even behind the counter there at the moment. She caught my eye with a sweet smile and a wave. I returned it before moving on, looking to my left. Across the way from the little art supply store was…
Ah-ha! Halloween Town! Lea's words hadn't done it justice. The whole store front was decorated with gothic tombstones, synthetic yet sinister jack-o-lanterns, and eerie silhouette cutouts of shadow faces. The doorway was even fashioned with a large wrought iron gate to give one the impression of walking into a decrepit old cemetery.
I hesitated at the entrance, gnawing on my lower lip. It wasn't the ghoulish ambiance that was giving me pause however. Instead it was a familiar, chilling doubt creeping its way up inside my chest.
What was I even doing here? Did I really think I could talk? To strangers? About singing? In a musical, no less? A musical, for crying out loud! Did I not know myself but at all? What was I thinking? If I was struggling to even go inside right now to merely introduce myself to a couple new people, what made me think I could ever possibly stand on a stage to perform in front of a whole auditorium?
...then again… musicals were a little different, weren't they? Musicals had scripts. Scripts made things so much easier. Scripts made it so you knew exactly what to expect. No surprises, no uncertainty, all you had to do was stick to the script. Scripts were comfortable. Life would be so much simpler if it were like a musical, one where I had a script to follow. Musicals were just so… nice. Full of songs and dancing. You'd forget the audience was even there and all you were left with was pure joy. I remembered how they made me feel as a child. Like I finally had somewhere I truly belonged. Being a part of them was the last time I remembered feeling like I had been sincerely, genuinely happy. I… think I might like it… if maybe I could recapture some of that old feeling. Even just a little bit of it.
My hands clenched at my sides and my nostrils flared.
I could do this. I could walk inside, meet these individuals and ask some questions. Just a few measly questions. It didn't even have to go beyond that. I could change my mind at any time if I wanted to. This was nothing. Just one small step, that's all.
With a reassuring nod to myself, I marched inside.
The place looked like the Dark Prince Dracula himself had exploded in here. Just the whole doom and gloom aesthetic covering every inch from floor to ceiling. The store practically overflowed with its goth merch, making the walkways cramped as I tried to navigate through it all, looking for a Jack, a Sally, or someone who could point me to either of them. Unfortunately, I wasn't having any luck beyond running into a handful of shoppers perusing the goods. They gave me blank stares as I passed them. I must have stuck out like a sore thumb here.
Perhaps I was going about this all wrong. Maybe instead of me looking for an employee, I should just stop and let an employee find me. That did tend to be a part of the whole working retail shtick, after all.
As I came to a halt and waited for someone to (hopefully) ask me if I needed help finding anything, I glanced around. I had parked myself in front of one of the stores more, shall we say... unique items for sale. A very large, very regal, very frightful looking high-backed prop chair embellished in plastic skeletons and glowing jack-o-lanterns. I squinted at the little plaque next to it on the black wall, declaring it to be the throne of the Pumpkin King. Jeez, it was expensive too. Who would even pay that much for such a monstrosity?
"You lost, little girl?"
I gasped, jumping at the sudden voice. Wait… I recognized that voice. Had heard it not too long ago. But had it really come from where it sounded like it had? Wrinkling my brow, I looked up.
There, sitting atop the high backrest of the throne with an elbow propped on one knee and chin in his palm, was none other than Vanitas. He smirked down at me from his perch, gold eyes flickering bright in this otherwise dark place. There was something moving, cozying itself up around his shoulders… some sort of critter, I suspected, but it was hard to tell from down here.
Well, I'd been hoping someone who worked here would find me. I guess this was the very definition of be careful what you wish for because you might just get it.
I took a step backwards, fidgeting with my fingers. "Um… Excuse me, but could you help me find-"
"Sorry," he grumbled in a tone that was anything but apologetic as he hopped down to land in front of me, pointing a finger at his now apathetic expression, "but does this look like the face of someone who gives two fucks what you want?"
I grimaced, moving another step back. His gaze was making me anxious and I was unable to hold it, instead opting to shift my eyes over to the creature on his shoulder. Now that it was closer, I could see it was a hairless sphynx cat, black with red eyes. Did its collar say… Flood? What a strange thing to name a pet. I must not have been reading it right. Licking my dry lips, I muttered, "Well, I… suppose I'll just go find someone else th-"
"What was your name again?" Vanitas interrupted me, eyes narrowing as he got in my face now. It seemed he had absolutely zero awareness of personal boundaries. He started to slowly circle me, eyeing me up and down, "...Emma? Ilsa?"
"Elsa," I corrected with a tiny scowl, back stiff as I felt a chill creep up it while he passed behind me. This guy was getting on my nerves. Before I could stop myself, I snapped, "And yours was what? Beetlejuice?"
...can't believe you actually went there, mouth. That was childish. Lea was a bad influence.
"Cute. Bet your boyfriend told you to say that," he snerked, finishing his tiny lap around me and coming to a stop, bringing us face-to-face once more. His cat was making a low growling noise as it watched me and Vanitas brought up his fingers to scratch behind one of its large, jagged ears. "Still, it took balls to actually say it. Looks like you got some bite beneath your chilly exterior, eh Frosty?"
My scowl deepened and I backed up another step, my spine coming into contact with the end of a wide shelf. I hoped he couldn't hear the small tremor in my voice as I shot back, "And looks like you have a bad memory beneath your boorish exterior. I just told you what my name is and it isn't Frosty."
Elsa, Queen of the Death Wish.
Seriously, why was I antagonizing this guy? This was a bad idea. I knew that and yet I couldn't seem to help myself. He was making me antsy. My heartbeat hammered and my hands were clammy. I felt a bit like a cornered animal, lashing out in a futile attempt to keep a larger predator at bay.
His lips curled wolfishly. At least he seemed to find me amusing. Although, I wasn't quite sure if that was really a good thing. "You know, I'm starting to see why Red has his panties all in a twist over you." His cat leapt down to the floor and started weaving itself between my ankles. Doing my best not to trip over it, I tried to sidestep so I could regain some distance and possibly even altogether escape but Vanitas's hand shot out, palm slamming against the shelf behind me, his arm now blocking my path.
"Yeah," he continued, rubbing a curled finger to his chin as his unsettling grin grew toothier, "you got sorta this whole pure, innocent Catholic schoolgirl vibe going on that really makes a guy want to corrupt the fuck outta you. Tell ya what, Frosty," he leaned in closer and my jaw clenched as he clacked his silver tongue stud against his teeth, "if you ever get bored of that loser, gimme a call. I'll show you a real good t-"
"Bad Vani!" Suddenly the boy was getting spritzed in the side of the face with some kind of liquid and he jerked back, stumbling away from me. A young woman stepped forward, glowering at him as she sprayed him a couple more times with the water bottle she was holding. "Stop scaring the customers!"
"God fucking damnit, woman!" he snarled back, angrily scrubbing his sleeve along his damp cheek. "You can't do that to me! I am darkness! I am fear! I am-"
Eyelids drooping, she squirted his face with more water. He spat out a long string of curse words before flipping her off and running away, his cat hissing and scampering after him.
Sighing and shaking her head, she then turned to me with a small smile, "Sorry about him. We keep him around because he's really good with the regulars, but he does seem to take perverse pleasure in spooking any newcomers, or 'fresh meat,'" her fingers bounced in air quotes, "as he likes to call them. He shouldn't bother you again however. In any case, I'm Sally, how can I help you?"
Ah, so this was Sally. Thank goodness she didn't seem anything like her coworker. She was pretty, if somewhat distressingly pale. And that was coming from me, so that was saying something. Why, standing next to her, I practically looked tan. Her long red hair came down to her waist and peeking out from the neckline of her colorful, eccentric patchwork dress was a neck tattoo that looked like a line of crisscross stitches wrapping all the way around.
"Oh, er… hello…" my hands folded over one another against my stomach. Then fell awkwardly to my sides. Then, after some hesitation, I stretched one out for a handshake, "My name is Elsa. I…" my mind drew a total blank and my anxiety spiked. Grasping at straws, I blurted out the first thing I could remember, "Lea sent me."
Wow, that sounded so cloak-and-dagger.
Sally accepted my hand, her smile growing warmer. "Oh, so you're the one he's been talking our ears off about. Pleasure to make your acquaintance." She twisted around slightly, calling back over her shoulder, "Jack? Elsa's here. You remember… Lea's girlfriend?"
A few seconds later a man emerged from between the racks of black leather apparel and spiked accessories. Jeez, he was tall. At least as tall as Lea if not having him beat by a couple inches. The big difference here however was Lea at least had some meat on his bones, where as this guy was more just skin and bones. A walking stick. I'd give him this however, he was quite the dapper dresser in his black suit with a bit of goth flair to it. His short, poofy hair was a stark white and he struck me with a huge, face-splitting grin that would have given Sora a run for his munny.
"Ah yes! The one interested in trying out for our new production! Nice to meet you, nice to meet you!" He grabbed my hand with both of his, giving it a couple shakes that rocked my whole body. "Wow, just look at you! The hair, those eyes, that complexion! You would make an absolutely stunning Glinda!"
Placing gentle fingers on his arm, Sally said, "Slow down, Jack. Remember what Lea said?"
"Right! Sorry, I have a bad habit of getting ahead of myself in my enthusiasm," he laughed, long thin fingers scratching at his cheek. "You've been out of the musical game for a while now, isn't that right?"
Sweeping my ponytail forward to run my hands down it, I nodded. "Yes… yes, it's been a few years. Not since I was a child, in fact, so I'm a bit rusty." My face pinched and I looked down, "Well... more like a lot rusty."
"That's okay!" he brushed off, his hand batting the air. "We welcome everyone, especially beginners! We just love introducing people to the wonderful world of theater! To the magic! The drama!" he boomed the last word, curling his fingers skyward before him theatrically.
"Tone it back a bit, dear," Sally affectionately stroked his cheek before turning her gaze back on me. "Jack's an actor, if you couldn't tell, though he does dabble in directing from time to time too. I'm more behind the scenes. I like to help with the costuming and techie work."
My head tipped to one side, recalling Jack had said something about Glinda. "Is your upcoming show going to be The Wizard of Oz?"
"Wicked, actually," he corrected before bringing his hands together with a clap. "And in fact, we're holding auditions tomorrow starting at 5 PM over at the Sunset Hill Auditorium! You should swing by and try out. It'd be good to get some new blood in there!"
"What?" I blinked, before quickly shaking my head and holding up a hand with a feeble chuckle, "Oh no. No, I don't think so. I was just curious to learn more about your group, but I don't think I'm ready for… well, for anything like that."
"Still, you should absolutely stop in and check us out. You can just observe if you want. May I borrow your phone?" Sally asked. I chewed my bottom lip before digging it out and letting her take it from me. She tapped in something real quick then handed it back. "There. You have the address now and you're welcome to come by, even if it's just to hang out. We're a real open and friendly lot. Just a bunch of overgrown theater kids, really."
"Thanks," I murmured, staring down at the location she'd entered into my phone for a second before pocketing it once more. Then I pursed my lips to one side, averting my gaze to appear more interested than I actually was in the vampire fangs hanging in the display to my right. "...so what exactly would one need to do to prepare for an audition? Just for curiosity's sake," I tacked on the last part quickly, faintly blushing.
It was just an innocent question. Not like I was actually going to do it.
Sally grinned softly. "For singing parts in musicals, we require those trying out to perform two songs. One from the show itself, the other can be anything of the auditionee's choosing. I entered my number into your phone as well in case you had any further questions, so just shoot me a message and I can text back the selection from Wicked that you'll have to pick from. For that, you just have to bring your voice. For your personal preference song however, you'll need to be ready with some sheet music for our pianist to play from."
Seemed simple enough.
…not that I was going to do it, of course. Certainly not. Nope.
"Sally, you almost forgot the most important part," Jack tsked teasingly before ducking his head down to my level and striking up a finger. "You must also be prepared… to have fun!" he declared happily, throwing up a pair of jazz hands.
A crease formed between my eyebrows. "I'll… try to remember that. Thanks." I felt an upward tug at one corner of my lips despite myself.
I thanked them for their time and we said our goodbyes. Luckily, I had no further run-ins with the local wildlife (aka Vanitas) on my way out. As I trekked my way homeward, I felt a bit of a pleasant electricity buzzing in my chest. I think I may have actually been a smidge excited. Of course, it was only over the idea of going and watching other people audition tomorrow. Of living vicariously through them. I surely wasn't going to try out myself. Who me? No, don't be silly, definitely not. And I certainly wasn't currently dusting off my mental playlist of the soundtrack for Wicked, nor already sorting through a few potential songs I might sing as my free choice. No, absolutely not.
Those were the furthest things from my mind.
The.
Absolute.
Furthest.
Tumblr media
Author's Note: Lea-dot-exe has encountered a critical error and has crashed xD Gosh it's simply staggering the amount of mental acrobatics Elsa goes through to just simply NOT GET what has him so tongue-tied and flustered. Being really bad at reading social cues has basically become her super power at this point. Well, that and her super human ability to babble under extreme pressure. Also, more plot creeping back in as Elsa potentially begins to pursue the whole community theater angle! I was just happy I got an excuse to write Jack and Sally into this, they're a couple of my faves! Also happy I got an excuse to have someone spritz Vanitas in his punkass edgelord face with a water bottle haha! Fun Fact: These musical tryouts are based on how musical auditions used to be held at my high school. I'm not sure if any other theaters (professional, community, or otherwise) hold tryouts like that, but from what the internet tells me, every theater is different, especially when it comes to community theater, so I figured sure, why not, let's just go with what I know!
Next chapter, will Elsa be ready in time for tryouts? Will she actually go? Will she actually audition?! Who else might be there to try out as well? Is Lea actually onto something, have we been using forks BACKWARDS this whole time? Stay tuned!
Thanks for reading, I super duper appreciate it! And an extra BIG thank you to those of you who’ve liked, reblogged, and followed so far, seeing those lil notifications always brings the biggest, goofiest smile to my face!

Written in the Tea Leaves
Hey Katelyn! I was your MLB Secret Santa, Merry Christmas! You said Lukanette was your favourite so I hope you like this little meet cute ficlet; I tried to pick two complementary cute AU's for this fluff piece so i hope you like it!
AO3
Despite the lack of sleep and her usual hatred for mornings Marinette had woken up long before sunrise today, her mind caught up in the opening of her and Alya’s very own Tattoo shop, their dream come true after years of hard work. She’d attempt to plan her outfit out the night before but with hours to kill in the morning she’d gotten changed a further six times, her nerves and excitement refusing to let her sit still. In the end she settled on a lacy dusky pink sundress that was both her favourite colour and still flashy enough to show off the art she wore on her own skin proudly.
And Marinette was no stranger to Ink, her fingers itched daily to add to the scrawling elegant display of watercolour flowers that spiralled both her arms and nearly met across her shoulder blades and collar bones. It was getting to the point where she struggled to add to the piece herself, instead bothering Alya to copy out her designs onto skin; Alya who was almost as talented with ink, though she preferred to stab people with jewellery usually.
The most recent addition to Marinette’s piece had been three small gold washed marigolds across her shoulder blade, to represent her and Alya’s creative dream coming true, every single one of the flowers she wore held a meaning of some kind, literally wearing her heart on her sleeves for all to see.
With the healing process finally over and the urge to show off her skill for the opening Marinette decided she was brave enough to skip the coat and bare the brisk spring air, after all it looked warm enough with the rising sun and it would be a shame to cover up the art she wanted to show off. With her heart still fluttering somewhere rapidly in her throat in excitement she decided she couldn’t wait any longer to get into the shop and so for the first time in forever she set off from her apartment ridiculously early, Alya would be pleased.
In her unrestrained glee Marinette had failed to notice the sky darkening or even the air growing cold as she practically skipped down the cobbled streets to their shop. When the rain finally broke overhead the squeal that ripped from her throat was genuine shock and despite trying to keep under shop awnings she was truly and unsurprisingly soaked, hair plastered to her face within minutes and her whole form violently shivering as she dripped.
Sheltering herself against the side of the building Marinette found herself cursing her luck and scowling down at the ‘lucky’ ladybug tattooed on the outside of her wrist, as if it was going to give her a solution; she was only about half way between home and the shop and in either direction laid more rain. In the end Marinette made the split-second decision to duck into the only open looking coffee shop on the corner, the lights glowing warmly through the window into the rainy gloom. Sure she wasn’t far from the safety of her own shop but the hottest tea she could stand sounded like a good pay off to her rain soaked self and maybe she could even miss the rest of the downpour safely inside, it wasn’t like she was running late.
Feeling a little more hopeful Marinette dashed back out into the rain and darted through the coffee shop door blindly, water dripping in her eyes as the bell chimed above her. As soon as the door shut and the warmth hit her and she stilled leaning back on her heels just slightly as her shivers subsided and her eyes slid closed happily, rubbing her arms a little for warmth as she adjusted.
“You’re dripping on my floor.” came an amused voice from her left, startling her eyes open.
Marinette immediately rushed to apologise, hands fluttering and her whole face turning scarlet but before she could mumble the words aloud a soft towel was being pushed into her hands, stilling them.
“It’s clean, dry yourself off and go sit by the guitars, it’s where the heating vents are.” He winked at her like sharing a secret before turning back to head towards the counter. “I’ll bring you something warm; tea?”
The unbelievably flustered Marinette just nodded in response, eyes wide and face burning but he at least seemed amused by her speechlessness, smiling as he left.
Despite still dripping with rainwater her brain failed to jump into action, instead allowing her eyes to follow the baristas retreating form unbidden, the teal tips of his locks reflecting in the lights and the muscles under his black button up flexing casually as he moved. ‘He’s Cute’ was the first thing to flash forward followed in the empty silence of her thoughts followed rapidly by ‘I look like a took a swim in the Seine! Argh!’
Finally kicked into action she immediately began towelling the rainwater off her face and shoulders before gently rubbing her hair, careful to try and make herself as presentable as possible by pulling her fingers through the now wavy damp locks. She eventually remembered to move from the door, eyes darting back to the Barista as she walked, this time watching as he selected tea leaves from a variety of jars on the counter adding them to a glass teapot. She was pretty sure could hear him humming as he worked which caused her lips to twitch into a small involuntary smile.
For a beat she hovered next to the table unsure if she wanted to get the comfy looking fabric seats all wet but when she next glanced up she could see the barista’s dimpled smile sent her way across the counter and as their eyes finally met her suddenly weak knees decided she needed the seat after all. So Marinette perched gingerly on the edge of the chair, fingers worrying in the damp fabric of her skirt as she waited, the returning smile on her lips refusing to be squashed by her embarrassment even if she couldn’t quite look his way again.
She instead cast her eyes about the café quickly catching on to the musical theme as she spotted all sorts of instruments mounted to the walls, not just the guitars she was sat near. There was even the odd album poster dotted around and she couldn’t help but smile as she spotted her own Jagged Stone cover amongst the rest; Uncle Jagged had like the design so much he’d let her tattoo it on his arm years later and she wondered idly if the barista was a Jagged fan, maybe she could ask him, If she could find her words again.
Marinette was startled out of her thoughts by a polite clearing of a throat. The Barista and his warm eyes were back, and he was baring a steaming teapot that smelled divine.
“I thought you might like-“ he began,
“I’m sorry about your-” she clattered over him.
His easy smile as he gestured for her to go first calmed the pulse ringing in her ears and Marinette found herself able to meet his lovely teal eyes as she spoke her own soft smile blooming in response.
“I’m sorry about the floor and thank you.” she finally breathed, relieved.
“It’s no problem, we’re not really open yet but you looked cold and a just little damp, so I thought I’d offer you a place to warm up.” He spoke lightly with just a hint of friendly teasing as he placed a musical note patterned mug before her.
“I really appreciate it, thank you! I, um, well I wasn’t quite prepared for the weather.” She admitted. And whilst Marinette had meant to be witty or charming, to try hard and make a good impression something about him put her instantly at ease; happy to just be herself for once, exactly as she was, even if that was a little bashful.
It seemed to be the right move as he grew flushed by her sincere thanks a small blush spreading across his cheeks as his eyes dropped from hers. In fact, Marinette got the distinct impression he’d rub his neck in shyness if his hands weren’t full of teapot, the thought alone caused a warmth to grow in the pit of her stomach; he was as adorable as he was kind.
“I thought this would suit you, jasmine and sakura blossom with curl of apple.” He nodded his chin to the leaves and fruit floating clear teapot before reaching across the table to pour, unintentionally causing his long sleeves to ride up baring the edge of a tattoo to her.
Like a predator spotting pray Marinette instantly zoned in on the tattoo, her bashfulness vanishing in curiosity, her hands reaching forward without thought to push the sleeve further up baring the beautiful design. It was some sort of snake surrounded by fresh tea leaves and music notes, the colours greyscale but with a watercolour wash of blue and teal; very much like her own preferred style.
“Oh! its beautiful.” She gasped delightedly, gently lifting his hand off the lid of the tea pot so she could turn his arm to view it better, revealing a burn scar running through the back of the design.
“I could fix this!” she blurted out, eyes darting across his skin mentally designing and recreating the piece with new details to cover the scar.
In the responding silence she finally glanced up to meet his startled but soft gaze when she remembered they were practically strangers; she didn’t even know his name and she’d gotten carried away again! Quickly releasing his arm, she sat back, linking her fingers together to stop the fidgeting as she turned slowly scarlet from head to toe her eyes fixed somewhere around his chin, no longer brave enough to meet his eyes.
“I’m so sorry, that was so rude! I’m a tattoo artist and I get carried away and I shouldn’t have and–“
He cut her off with the scrape of the chair next to her as he took a seat, carefully arranging the music note patterned apron on his knee, as if giving her a chance to breathe before ducking slightly to try and gently catch her gaze.
“It’s okay but maybe we should start again properly. I’m Luka.”
His voice was so warm, like honey, that it took her a moment to realise he was offering his hand to shake; her daintier hand engulfed by his as she finally reached out and shook. She forced herself to untense and to meet his eyes with a smile despite the tingles in her fingertips of the hand he still held.
“I’m um, I’m Ma-Ma-Marinette! Pleased to meet you!” she stumbled the moment his eyes connected with hers, really at 26 she ought to be better at this, but Luka just chuckled softly squeezing her fingers but seemingly in no rush to let go either.
“Well Ma-Ma-Marinette, let’s talk about these tattoos...”
And they did her mouth spiralling out of control as her nerves calmed when supplied with a topic she loved, quickly explaining her skill and style before expressing exactly how she’d like to cover the scar in his design, absently tracing her plans with her fingertips on his skin. Luka in turn explained exactly how the scar came to be and how he ended up trading in music and fancy tea leaves, before shifting closer and gently touching the flowers across her arms, quizzing her on the meaning behind the art and how she’d come to be an artist in ink.
In the end he ended up getting down his favourite guitar off the wall and playing her some pieces for inspiration as she rapidly sketched out his new tattoo design on a napkin in biro; she couldn’t wait for a sketch book not when the idea was so perfect.
Before they knew it, hours had passed, the sun was breaking through the clouds and Marinette was getting a frantic call from Alya about being late to opening day as Luka realised that he should have opened the store front an hour ago. There wasn’t time for awkward lingering goodbyes, Marinette instead throwing her arms around the taller boy in a soft slightly to long hug before she was dashing out of his arms and running out of the door, wearing his borrowed jacket. A jacket that she’d later find a hastily hidden note baring his number in the pocket of.
So, when Marinette happened to get a craving for tea the next morning and returned his jacket with the pocket now hiding a preliminary sketch of his new design and her own number neatly in the corner it was only natural. As it was when she was invited back day after day, after all it was on her way and they had design to settle on.
Nearly a month later when that design was finally on his arm but now also baring greyscale sakura blossoms amongst the scattered tea leaves, it seemed almost logical for matching tea leaves to appear on Marinette’s design in return too, it was such an aesthetic combination after all.
And months after that when a beaming Marinette moved into the flat above his cosy tea shop to live with an overjoyed Luka no one even blinked, it seemed some people’s fate were written in the tea leaves after all.

bmblb flowershop au
been CRAVING this for weeks so i wrote one on twitter and im gonna do a post here too so i don’t lose it in my 43k tweets in case i ever do anything more with it (’: but here’s my bee flowershop au pls enjoy. it’s set in late spring/early summer
yang, age 18 and freshly out of highschool, gets her driver’s license and immediately asks for a motorcycle. taiyang gives her the keys to the family minivan instead and tells her if she wants a deathmobile, she can get a job and buy it herself
she’s walking down the main shopping street looking for job opportunities when she sees a cute girl putting up a “help wanted” sign outside a flowershop. it’s blake. the cute girl is blake.
it’s a delivery job and she applies immediately and gets it mostly because she’s the only one who applied, but ironically also because the minivan is big enough to hold large bouquets, has a 5star safety rating, and also does not go faster than 35mph so its extremely unlikely that she will be in any accidents lol
blake’s family’s shop is very popular, and they do a lot of weddings and big events. it’s an on-call job and she gets called in maybe once or twice a week. it’s always blake calling her in, and they always have a nice chat before she has to go deliver the flowers
she finds out blake is the owner’s only daughter, so she’s probably off limits so like ok. disappointing but whatever it’s easy money and she gets to talk to a hot girl every time she goes to work so this is fine
but then she starts getting some really weird deliveries...
the first one is to a wrestling tournament at some prep school. it’s for a boy (sun wukong, the delivery slip says) who giggles like a little schoolgirl as soon as he sees her coming with the flowers, and before he’ll sign for the delivery, starts talking to her about sports and her workout routines, etc
he’s a nice guy, they talk for a bit, and she asks if he got the flowers because he won and he says no, it’s the nationals and he made third place. the whole time he’s grinning like it’s some kind of inside joke, so that’s what she figures it is.
when she goes back to the flowershop, she tells blake about it, about how weird it was delivering to a wrestling tourney of all things- and she’s laughing too.
yang mentions looking at the delivery slip and that she’s never heard of the flowers before. this gets blake GOING.
she tells her that they’re ranunculus flowers, more commonly known as buttercups in some other flowershops, and that they symbolize attraction, that you find someone charming.
“huh. guess he has some big fan out there,” yang laughs.
“yeah,” blake smiles softly, “guess so.”
the second time it happens, it’s a delivery to some small town fashion magazine publisher. this time, blake mentions the flowers before yang leaves.
it is a mixture of carnations, lilies, and white orchids, and they all symbolize, to some degree, beauty. yang supposes it’s fitting considering she’s going to a fashion magazine, i guess??? this makes blake laugh a bit. yang thinks her laugh is really very cute.
the flowers are for a velvet scarlatina. yang notices her fidgeting as she drops them off in her office. it’s not a nervous fidget, more like she’s excited but is a bit too shy to say and doesn’t know how to express it, maybe?
so yang asks. velvet’s surprised by the question, but she smiles and tells her anyways. she’s just been promoted to lead photographer, she’ll have an entire photo editing department to lead starting tomorrow, and it’s probably the biggest thing that’s ever happened to her. it’s exciting! she’s excited! yang congratulates her, she’s genuinely happy for this girl. she seems like a hard worker.
as yang turns to leave, velvet stops her, holds up a camera slowly, and softly asks if she can take yang’s picture. to test out her new lens, she adds.
it’s a little weird, but okay; artsy people are always weird, yang’s smokin hot on a normal day, AND she’s having an incredible hair day today, if she does say so herself. so she agrees. before she leaves, velvet hands her a small rabbit’s foot, “for good luck.”
this time, yang tells both blake and ruby/weiss about it. blake seems amused, but doesn’t say much, and ruby immediately demands to see the rabbit’s foot charm.
while ruby is occupied by the charm, weiss asks yang how her new job is going. yang gets stuck talking about blake, how cute she is and how smart she is and how nice she is. her smile and her face and her voice.
at this point even ruby’s tuned back in.
so, they do what any good sister/sister’s weirdly obsessive girlfriend would do. they tag along the next time she gets called in to work.
ruby and weiss immediately drift to a section of shop on their own, distracted. ruby’s picking out a bouquet of roses for weiss (ugh, yang thinks) as yang walks to the counter where blake sits. this time the bouquet is simple, made of only one flower: gardenias.
“it symbolizes purity and love,” blake tells her.
“wow i feel like 90% of these flowers symbolize purity and love,” yang jokes. it makes blake chuckle, so very softly, and yang feels like a hammer has dropped in her chest. love. oh no.
“probably accurate. gardenias though, if you were wishing to send someone your undying love anonymously, you would send them gardenias,” blake muses, eyes drifting over to ruby and weiss making a fuss in the corner. “it’s a symbol for a secret love.”
yang’s head is screaming. oh no.
yang ends up leaving (ditching) ruby and weiss there with blake.
the flowers are being sent to the same prep school as the wrestling tournament, but instead of the gym she’s headed for the locker rooms. there’s a sign for a track meet today, and the flowers are for an ilia amitola, some star on the team, yang guesses, as she walks through the school.
ilia is the only one still in there, and yang senses the hostility immediately.
ilia absolutely GRILLS her, there’s no other way to describe it. she asks her question after question about her tastes, her hobbies, her personal life. it’s a little intimidating, and yang is still sort of distracted from her revelation at the flowershop (oh nO) so she answers them all.
ilia’s quiet for a bit at the end before signing the slip and letting yang go.
“don’t fuck it up,” she says as yang’s leaving the room. what the hell???
when she gets home she immediately storms into ruby’s room.
“i think im in love with her,” she’s freaking out. pacing. weiss is in there too, because of course she is, and they’re both just staring at her blankly.
apparently, it was obvious.
“I don’t know why you’re freaking out,” weiss huffs. “when was the last time you dated a girl? like, actually, with feelings??”
“shut UP weiss you’re not invited to this conversation. ruby, sweet ruby, my wonderful adorable baby sister with a strange addiction to model guns and extremely violent shooting games, how the fuck do i get over the cute flower girl that makes me feel like i want to bash my head against the concrete??”
“uhhh well, for one, i think weiss has great ideas so im re-inviting her into the conversation. (”thank you,” weiss huffs, because she was raised to be polite even while offended) and two, just, like, uhhh don’t???”
they convince yang to confess to blake. but yang’s like ok it’s been a while since ive had actual, swear-to-god, feelings, so she wants to do something ROMANTIC. something BIG. something GAY.
yang’s saved up a nice chunk of cash from her job - and okay, who needs a motorcycle when you could get a girlfriend? and like, okay, blake works at the shop, so she’s not quite sure if flowers are an appropriate idea, but she’s literally always reading books on flower meanings and flower dictionaries and looking at natgeo magazines etc so she watches shia lebeouf’s just do it video and why the hell not
but she has to do it right - and she asks the only flower experts she knows other than blake. blake’s parents. she wants to get their okay as well anyways - she’d quit if she had to - so it’s like two birds one stone. but yang’s been charming them since her interview, and they’re almost strangely enthusiastic about helping set up their only daughter.
she gets weiss to place the order, because ruby can’t stop giggling on the phone. it’s a HUGE bouquet - full of every flower that symbolizes love that mr & mrs belladonna recommended her. it’s almost embarrassing listening to weiss list the flowers and knowing that blake is the one receiving the order.
the bouquet is so huge that yang insists that she needs help carrying it. conveniently, ruby and weiss are busy doing something gay, so they aren’t free to help her. blake raises her eyebrow when her parents send her off with yang to help. yang thinks it’s very attractive.
the address is a meadow right on the outskirts of town. lots of rolling hills, lots of swaying trees, the sky is clear and you can already see the moon even though it isn’t nighttime yet. it’s all very scenic, a perfect wedding venue. it’s late afternoon when they leave the shop.
“preparing for a wedding so late in the day is so strange,” blake comments on the way there, playing with the radio stations like she owns the van. it makes yang’s heart clench. can you die early from too much feeling? how awful. “what eccentric people, to be having their ceremony so late at night.”
“aha... y-yeah, eccentric people for sure,” yang sweats.
they park on the hill, and there’s no one there. blake steps out of the van, confused. she’s looking at the sunset and it’s as picture perfect as she thought it would be, but where is everyone?
and when she turns around, yang is holding the very large bouquet perfectly fine on her own. she almost shoves it into blake’s face.
“they’re for you,” yang blurts out immediately. “i’m the eccentric people.”
blake’s all ??? for a second. and then it sinks in and she’s laughing because, “do you know how much these flowers cost? did you literally spend all your money on a bouquet of flowers for me, a florist’s daughter who is literally around flowers all day?”
turns out blake has also been spending her money on bouquets for all of her friends uncharacteristically often, with their consent of course, just to get the cute new delivery girl into the store more so she could see her and maybe have a chat. they’ve been returning the flowers with small favors of their own - non-consensual blake makes sure to point out - namely, yang’s favorite workout spots, some really cute not-at-all-candid pictures of yang, and what basically amounted to, yup u guessed it, an entire autobiography of yang herself. god.
they kiss as the sun’s last rays are fading, laughing, on a hill almost an hour’s drive away in a rusty old minivan, and over a ridiculously unnecessary amount of flowers. it’s pretty fuckin gay.

NOV 1 - LUNDI 9:22
He doesn’t know exactly when he knew.
So when Eliott asks when he knew he loved him—or, liked him, as his confession was worded—as they lay on the same pillow in the older boy’s bed with limbs intertwined and hands traveling all over the new space of skin they are now allowed to explore, Lucas doesn’t quite know what to say.
There wasn’t a feeling of allatonceness everyone talks about; he can’t even pinpoint a progression of feelings. Perhaps they developed subconsciously, without his knowledge until they were too intense to go unnoticed. Maybe the knots in his stomach were because of these feelings and not the usual every day nervousness he’s used to.
Maybe it’s like Aristotle said. Just a constant fall towards his natural place: Eliott. Or as if meeting Eliott was the violent motion that knocked his life off course, or, right where he was meant to be. Or some combination of the two — meeting Eliott was a naturally violent event just destined to happen.
But even if meeting Eliott was such an event, that doesn’t explain how they got here. Here as in having confessed that they love each other, in a way more than friends do. He feels that a major shift occurs whenever Eliott is brought into anyone’s life; Lucas is not special in that regard. But having this, being able to kiss and touch and embrace whenever they wish, is something only Lucas can do. So what changed? How did his friendship with Eliott turn into longing, hoping, yearning for more?
Because if love is anything like energy, then there are laws that apply. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, so perhaps the same is true for love. It can take on different forms, can fluctuate and move from one place to another, can remain potential or transform into something else entirely. But it’s never not there, never forced, and can have a mind of its own.
That much he knows for sure. He’s seen it first hand; how quickly it can change, there one minute and gone the next. He’s seen how his father’s love changed and moved on to the new family he’s made for himself away from him and his mother, and seen how Emma and Yann remained friends after their break up.
Of course he didn’t have this answer ready this morning, only now putting his thoughts together in class and daydreaming of the warm comfort of being in Eliott’s arms.
“I’m not sure. I just know that I do, now,” he said, face to Eliott’s bare chest and tracing the smooth skin of his collarbone.
He could feel Eliott’s hand pushing the hair out of Lucas’ face and feel the smile on his forehead before leaving a kiss there. One hand traveled down his face, thumb pressing the bone of his jawline and fingers stroking the skin behind his ear, before gently pulling his face up for a kiss — their first since before they fell asleep the night before.
Their conversation didn’t get much further, for they replaced words with touches and glances and kisses. That, and Charlotte opened the door to tell Eliott, “you’re going to be late for sch—” before seeing the two wrapped up in each other. Lucas immediately retreated from Eliott’s embrace and scrambled for the covers that would have been beneficial in masking the compromising situation he has found himself in, once again — this time definitely more humiliating than the last.
“We’re going, we’re going,” Eliott assured his mother as he got out of bed and threw on a shirt. He seemed completely unaffected by the intrusion, not an ounce of embarrassment or guilt present in his voice or muscles — Lucas watched the ones on his upper back as they flexed and relaxed in the process of getting dressed, actually let himself look unlike that night of stargazing.
“This was great while it lasted but I don’t think I’m ever going to be able to look at your mom in the eyes now.”
Lucas hated how Eliott just giggles at that, until he gave in and started to laugh too — at his luck and at the way Eliott looked so cute and giddy.
“What has you in such a good mood?” Imane’s voice breaks him out of his trance, having noticed his cheeks getting rosy from the events of the morning.
“Nothing,” he smiles, picking up his pencil and getting to work.

NOV 3 - MERCREDI 15:26
Eliott is picking Lucas up at his apartment to take him to this new pizza place he’s been raving about. He texts that he’s on his way up and Lucas cannot find a pair of clean socks for the life of him. So, when Eliott knocks on the door, he’s still rummaging through his drawers and hamper to find any pair he can.
Mika answers the door; Lucas finally finds some socks under his bed, and he can hear Eliott and his flatmate talking from the hall.
He can’t believe Mika actually has the nerve to ask if Eliott is available and hardcore flirts with him in their living room. Eliott just laughs and plays along, until he tells him, seriously, “Unfortunately, I am deeply in love.”
This makes Lucas stop in his tracks as he makes his way towards them. He supposes he knew that already; they are in this honeymoon stage of just getting together, but it still knocks the wind out of him.
Mika is surprised but mostly curious, and maybe a little but jealous. “Really? Since when?”
And thank the gods that he doesn’t ask, with who? because Lucas doesn’t know if he’s quite ready to tell people just yet.
Eliott looks down at his feet, grinning that big, stupid, beautiful grin — and love looks so good on him, he thinks. When he looks up he sees Lucas approach from the hallway but doesn’t enter the room yet, and locks eyes with him while saying, “Since the first moment I saw him.”
And now Lucas feels the air being swiftly knocked out of his lungs once again, instantly being replaced with love — the intense, all-consuming kind. Since the first moment he saw him?
He recalls that moment now, trying to wrap his brain around the fact that Eliott could see anything worthy of love in him at the time, or even now.
It was a spring day, Lucas spent it with his mother at the science center, their favorite place. Although they didn’t have loads of money to afford a membership there, they saved their trips for special occasions, and ended up spending hours in the astronomy exhibits. But on this particular day, there was no special occasion, his mother just woke up that morning and decided they would go, even bought one of those expensive knick knacks for Lucas in the gift shop.
That’s where he met Eliott, he was looking at notebooks with images of the Milky Way on the cover. Eliott smiled at him, and Lucas couldn’t help but give him one in return, inevitably spouting facts about the galaxy to start conversation. The next week they saw each other at school and the rest is history.
It is so overwhelming—this tidbit of information, the memories flooding back, the sheer knowledge of Eliott returning every ounce of his love—that it moves him to where Eliott is standing in the doorway, takes him by the arm out of the apartment and down the hall.
They nearly trip down the stairs, all while not letting go of the other’s hand, laughing like the lovesick idiots they are. If Eliott wants to ask what he’s doing, Lucas doesn’t give him the time to. When they reach the lobby, Lucas can’t stand it and has to drag Eliott into the mailroom; he wastes no time in shutting the door behind them and taking a fistful of the taller boy’s shirt to attach their lips in a heated, passionate kiss. Eliott kisses him back urgently, and Lucas swallows his soft sighs.
They part to come up for air, and Lucas breathes out, teasing but smiling so big he can’t help it.
“Since the first moment you saw me, huh?” There’s a hint of this whole time? And all that time, I could have had this? in his voice. Lucas doesn’t let him answer, he crashes their lips together in another searing kiss before Eliott has the chance.
They part after another minute and look into each other's eyes for the first time that day. Eliott’s are a lot bluer today and seem to be glittering with that rare glint they do sometimes.
“And every moment since.” Eliott’s reply is so sweet as if dripping in honey, and it is so fucking cheesy and romantic that if literally anyone else were to say it he would be sick. But it’s Eliott, saying it to him with that madly-in-love grin, and Lucas could just about burst at the seams with emotion. God, if only fourteen year old Lucas could see him now.
Eliott takes his face in his hands and kisses him again, his hold firm and strong it makes Lucas weak in the knees. He reaches his arms around the taller boy’s waist for leverage, and his neck is starting to get sore from being tipped back so far, but he doesn’t care — as long as Eliott keeps kissing him, touching him like this.
“I love you,” Lucas says into Eliott’s mouth, then moves down to work on Eliott’s neck. “So. Fucking. Much,” he punctuates each word with a kiss.
He can feel more than hear Eliott’s groan when he teases the skin with his teeth, feel Eliott’s hands tangle in his hair at the smooth glide of his tongue that comes after. Lucas adjusts his stance, needing him closer, and places a leg between both of Eliott’s; it’s unclear which one of them makes the sound of pleasure filling the small space. And suddenly their jeans feel like they are getting tighter, so Eliott has to push at Lucas’ shoulder.
“Okay, baby, I love you too, but don’t start something we can’t finish.” Eliott giggles and flicks his eyes around the tiny mailroom, because they are that couple that couldn’t keep it in their pants long enough to leave the building, or go back upstairs to do this.
Lucas looks up at him now, seeing the enamored smile on his boy’s plump lips and meets him with the same one. Both of his hands are now tangled in the fabric of Eliott’s shirt, and he can feel his cheeks flush more from the comment than the kisses.
His mind was too preoccupied to take in the nickname, and when Lucas finally registers it, he turns scarlet. Baby. He swoons. And also maybe feels his jeans get just a little tighter. He can’t seem to stop the stupid giddy smile from growing on his lips and rests his forehead onto the boy’s sternum, out of shyness and just because he can. Lucas plants a kiss to Eliott’s heart, then releases the fabric from his grip and instead rests his hand on Eliott’s heart again.
He can feel the rhythm of it pulsing, imagine the word inked onto it. Life. It’s the blood rushing through their bodies, it’s what makes love possible. And Lucas is so happy that this is his — that he gets to share his life and his love with Eliott. Life, love: they are quite interchangeable, Lucas thinks — you cannot have one without the other.
Lucas laces their fingers together as they walk out of the mailroom and the building, and back into their love-filled lives.

NOV 5 - VENDREDI 19:03
Eliott has invited Lucas to one of the events at the university for applicants and future students where faculty and alumni are available to ask questions and exchange contact information before classes begin. Lucas thinks it’s a little early for it but he doesn’t know anything about uni or film, so he’s just happy to accompany Eliott and meet the people he has been working with.
They are about to walk in the door; Eliott is texting Adriano that they’re here with one hand because his other arm is being clutched by both of Lucas’.
Eliott gets a nametag and a packet of information from the table before entering the large room.
A young man comes up to them and Lucas can immediately recognize him as Adriano.
“Hey, you made it!” he says with a pat on Eliott’s shoulder, which would have made Lucas seethe with envy if he and Eliott weren’t together now. The thought does something to his stomach, a weird sinking feeling he used to be very familiar with.
He’s almost as tall as Eliott, his hair as dark as Eliott’s was on Halloween. His green eyes shift and land on Lucas; they’re kind and welcoming.
Eliott realizes they haven’t met before and introduces them. “Sorry, Lucas this is Adriano, and Adriano this is Lucas, my—” he stops, suddenly aware that they haven’t had the what are we telling people talk yet.
And Lucas immediately finishes with, “Boyfriend.” He extends a hand for Adriano to shake, “Hi, Lucas, the boyfriend.”
And it should be scary to say it out loud, but for some reason it isn’t. Maybe it’s because Eliott told him Adriano was pan too, and there’s a kind quality to Adriano’s gaze.
“Hi, Adriano. Or, I guess you can see that,” he motions to his nametag, smiling. “Nice to meet you, Lucas.”
“Yeah, nice to meet you too. I hear you’ve been working on something,” Lucas turns to Eliott, “but this one has yet to show me any of it.”
“Hey! I told you I would show you when it’s all finished!” his boyfriend exclaims.
“I know, I know. I guess I’m just very curious to see what you have been doing, like 24/7,” Lucas nudges Eliott’s side playfully.
“I mean, he does have a point,” Adriano agrees, and he and Lucas share a look.
Lucas snakes a hand around Eliott’s torso and places a kiss on his cheek while the other two talk about storyboards and drafts.
*
After an hour or two of circling the room and quick conversations with program directors and club presidents, Eliott and Lucas leave the building and take the short walk to the bus stop.
“Eli, you should definitely apply for that short film scholarship thing,” Lucas suggests as they cross a street.
He hates how Eliott’s shoulders tense at the words. “Yeah, I don’t know. If anything I think everyone there made me more intimidated than I already was, and I probably wouldn’t get it anyway.”
“Hey, you don’t know that,” Lucas says softly, squeezes the hand he’s holding in reassurance. “You can think about it, you don’t have to decide now. And even if you don’t win it, it would still be a great opportunity. And I will support you either way,” Lucas tries instead.
“I love you,” is Eliott’s reply, finished with a kiss. He’ll take it.
They continue to walk in silence, hands swinging between them, sharing smiles and kisses here and there. They talk again when they’re seated on the bus back to Eliott’s.
“So...boyfriend? Is that what we’re telling people?” Eliott asks, hesitant but open for Lucas to confirm or deny.
Lucas sighs, then starts, “I mean, yes. But I don’t know if I’m ready to tell the guys or my roommates or anything. If that’s okay?”
“We can do whatever you want, whenever you want to,” Eliott tells him with a hand on his knee. Lucas smiles up at him and thinks he really got lucky with this one.
He can sense Eliott’s eyes on him still, like he’s waiting to bring something up he’s afraid to. And then he asks, “I get that you don’t want to tell your friends yet, I do. Just.. you told Adriano, and it went well?”
Lucas remembers Adriano’s eyes and knowing smile when he said it. “I think it was just easier to tell him, like, I didn’t really know him and I knew he wouldn’t judge, I guess. And with the guys, or the girls...I think they’ll be supportive, but it’s still really fucking terrifying.”
Eliott takes his hand again, rubs his thumb back and forth. “I understand. Coming out is kind of an everyday thing, but it gets a little easier every time. And if they can’t accept it then they don’t deserve you. And I’ll be proud of you either way.” He bumps his shoulder against Lucas’, the words and the gesture making a smile bloom on his face that is soon being kissed again.

NOV 9 - MARDI 17:01
They watch a movie, Comet, on the couch in the coloc, sharing a bowl of popcorn and vanilla ice cream straight from the carton. Eliott’s feet are propped on the coffee table in front of them, legs crossed at the ankles; Lucas’ are laying on top of them, his legs not quite long enough to reach the table from his position on the couch.
The film begins at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery where people are waiting in line to attend a screening on the lawn. In the line, some guy is desperately trying to pick up a girl as another guy watches and eventually intervenes.
He doesn’t know why he says it out loud, but it reminds him of seeing Eliott with Adriano at the film festival all those weeks ago.
“Hey, that day at the film festival, were you— um, were you on a date?”
Eliott keeps his eyes on the screen until the scene is over and snaps back to reality to consider the question. “What?”
“You know..I was with Chloé, and I saw you and— and Adriano holding hands.” His stomach is starting to tie in knots at the memory of that horrible day, the feeling almost unfamiliar now since it has been a while since he felt this way.
Eliott seems to recall that day and turns to fully face Lucas, even though it’s difficult under the weight of the legs on top of his.
“Oh, you mean with Adriano? No! We weren’t on a date. We were there to see the movies of course, but after he dragged me to talk to the program director for EICAR.”
Lucas just looks at him, trying to understand what happened as his stomach keeps churning.
“Like, literally took my hand and dragged me over there because I didn’t have the guts to do it myself,” Eliott continues, voice light and airy.
“Oh,” is all Lucas says.
And this makes Lucas feel guilty, just as he had when he kissed Chloé as the credits rolled. He had no right being jealous of the guy who was just trying to help Eliott get comfortable with talking to the people at the booth. He feels even more guilt at the fact that he didn’t know how nervous Eliott was about pursuing film school, and couldn’t help but feel like a lousy friend for not being there when he was.
“What’s wrong?” Eliott asks when he sees the defeated look on his face.
I’m a terrible friend and a terrible person and I wish I could be half the person you are because for some reason you still keep me around even though I seem to fuck everything up, his brain supplies. Tears start to prick his eyes but he keeps them at bay. It’s a skill he is ashamed to admit he has mastered.
“I’m so sorry I wasn’t there for that, and all of the things I missed because I let stupid things get in the way of being a decent friend.”
“Lucas, it’s okay, really. I know things have been kind of intense lately. Just knowing that you’re there is enough.”
Eliott reaches an arm around Lucas’ shoulder and the latter rests his head on the older boy’s chest. A single tear manages to escape but is quickly wiped away with a shrug of one shoulder.
The voices on the screen fill the space now and Eliott says, “I’ve always wanted to go there!” shifting excitedly on the couch.
Lucas laughs, “We will have to go then, when you are nominated for an Oscar and then your movie will be the one playing on that building.”
“Yeah, okay,” he agrees with a tight-lipped grin.
Lucas nudges their shoulders together and leans into Eliott’s side.
*
“Okay, how did the writer crawl inside my brain and make Dell the American version of me?” Lucas says, sitting up with his legs criss-crossed.
“What are you talking about?”
“He just said he’s a ‘five minutes from now person’ and how he’s too busy thinking of the next minute to enjoy the one he’s living. I will say he is more bold than I will ever be, though. Who says something like ‘I’m probably going to fall in love with you’ to the person he just met?”
Lucas and Eliott share a look, one that says oh yeah, Eliott would.
“You’re right, though. This guy is a genius. He’s actually married to the actress who plays Kimberly.”
Lucas loves that Eliott gets to be the nerd for once and playfully shoves at him until getting comfortable in his arms again.

NOV 10 - JEUDI 18:32
What started as a study date got increasingly unbearable for Lucas to keep still when he and Eliott were alone in his apartment.
Lucas starts kissing him, and Eliott still tries to talk but Lucas swallows all his words and hums. He eventually puts his hands on Lucas’ chest to pull their mouths away; his hands stay there even when Lucas whines and tries to lunge forward.
“C’mon, baby, you can take a break, you’ve been at this for hours,” Lucas turns to the laptop now sitting on the coffee table.
“I know, I’m just kind of stressed about this stupid assignment. It’s not due until Monday but still.”
“Perfect, then you have time for a break,” Lucas tries again.
They have a short staring contest — Eliott holding back from giving in when he so clearly wants to, and Lucas practically burning with desire waiting for him to do just that.
“Yeah, I guess I do,” Eliott finally admits with his signature shrug, and that glint in his eyes from the mailroom the other day.
Lucas takes it as a cue and throws a leg over Eliott’s body, knees on either side of him digging into the couch cushions. Eliott’s hands find their way to Lucas’ hips as if on instinct, and the latter lowers himself to sit on Eliott’s lap, still straddling him.
They meet in the middle for a kiss, slow and languid as they let each other lick into their mouths. Then Eliott’s hands travel slowly up and down Lucas’ thighs and eventually rest on his hips with a firm grip. Lucas lets his arms twist around Eliott’s neck and on the back of the couch, sometimes moving down to grip at his hair.
Both can feel the other growing hard at the close proximity of their clothed crotches - and this is about as far as they have gone until  now.
Maybe Eliott wants to give Lucas an out, let him know that they don’t have to continue if he’s not comfortable and he would be more than okay to stop, when he says, breathless, “Lucas, we don’t have to—”
And Lucas wants nothing more than to keep going, so he assures him, but not without being a teasing little shit about it.
“Well, maybe I started something I want to finish.” Lucas looks down at him with a devilish grin, feeling confident at the way Eliott reacts with a gulp and dark eyes.
And what comes next is involuntary, but rewarding — Lucas starts to swivel his hips back and forth and in figure eights, which earns a deep moan out of Eliott, so he continues until suddenly his shirt is thrown on the floor. Lucas keeps up the movement of his hips, in need of friction for their now fully hard erections.
Eliott’s shirt follows soon after. Their mouths hang open, panting while their gazes meet, pupils blown out in lust and a mutual feeling of holy shit are we actually doing this?
So hands roam and hair is pulled and foreheads get sweaty. Eliott noses down Lucas’ throat until teeth sink in and his tongue slides around, the latter throwing his head back in pleasure as well as allowing more access. Then pants are being unzipped, skin is touching skin, and open-mouthed kisses are being peppered everywhere. Hands travel south and more moans and groans are released, ah, fuck and shit, oh god fill the air, which grows hotter with each passing second.
And it’s funny that Lucas doesn’t even think about the fact that he’s never done this before—with anyone —or that he is probably the least experienced person Eliott has been with, or that they are getting off on the same couch Eliott watches movies with his parents on, or that he is doing so with his best-friend-turned-boyfriend. He doesn’t think about any of it because, well, he doesn’t have the time to, and all his brain can do is scream more, more, more and Eliott, Eliott, Eliott.
It feels fucking good, like, amazingly good; he gets it now, when people say it feels so good that they see stars. Lucas comes first, but he lasts longer than he thought he would, and he also doesn’t really fucking care, when a pleasure like this exists.
Eliott finishes with a fuck, Lucas—, then Lucas swings his leg around and crashes against the couch next to him.
They take their time catching their breath while basking in the post-orgasm haze.
“Woah,” Lucas lets the word fall from his lips, chest heaving.
“Yeah, woah,” Eliott breathes out.
They burst into giggles and Eliott eventually rests his head on Lucas’ shoulder before cleaning up and getting dressed.
“Thank god your mom didn’t see...that.”
NOV 11 - VENDREDI 16:17
Yann and Lucas go for burgers and hang out like they used to before Lucas started being weird and distant. Now, he feels like he’s finally in a good place and wants to tell Yann about it.
“Everything good?” Yann asks as he picks up two fries.
“Yeah, actually.” Lucas sips his drink and tries to hide his smile. “So, you know how you told me to..tell Eliott how I feel?”
Yann finishes his bite and looks up at his friend eagerly but with caution. “Yeah? And?”
“And...he’s my boyfriend now,” he says, bashful and turning pink at the confession. It’s so strange that he gets to call Eliott his boyfriend, but he gets a thrill every time he can say it.
“Lucas! Dude, that’s awesome. I’m so happy for you. Really,” he reaches across the table for his hand in one of those cliché bro handshake hugs made awkward by their distance and piles of food on the surface. Lucas has never felt more relieved, more like himself.
“Thanks. I couldn’t have done it without you, you know,” it sounds light but he really means it, without that push he doesn’t know if he would have ever let himself admit his feelings for Eliott. Maybe there’s an alternate universe where a Lucas didn’t have the courage. But he refuses to believe it.

NOV 14 - DIMANCHE 19:50
Tumblr media
Lucas is at home and fell asleep while watching bad reality TV after finishing his homework and having dinner. He would go out with Eliott but his aunt and uncle are in town for his dad’s birthday so the couldn’t. His phone starts to ring against the wooden coffee table and he reaches for it without checking to see who’s calling.
“Hello?”
“Lucas,” Eliott’s voice sounds somber through the phone. “Have you heard of Pale Blue Dot?”
It’s not at all the greeting he was expecting from him and has no idea where this came from.
He has, of course, but it sounds more like a rhetorical question, so he just stays silent to let Eliott continue.
Lucas thinks he can hear him swallow, then, “Well, Pale Blue Dot is the mission from 1990, where Voyager 1 took a look at our planet from the edge of the Solar System. It was so far away, like, 6 billion kilometers, that Earth only looked like a pale blue dot.”
His voice is thinner now, like Eliott’s signature cadence and tone have been replaced with a robotic-like version.
“And it just makes me think, you know, that we are so small, so miniscule. That nothing we do matters, because how could it? That nothing I have ever done or will ever do matters.”
A moment of silence on both ends. Lucas sits up straight and gets dizzy from the speed of the motion.
“And I’m looking at the stars right now, and all the planets, and...”
Wait. Eliott is looking at the stars, now? He must be at La Petite Ceinture. Lucas throws on a hoodie and his blue jacket and is out the door without a second thought.
When he runs down the stairs and through the lobby, he can’t help but think of a few days ago when Eliott was giggling and skipping behind him, an image so far in contrast to the one he makes now, alone. And when Lucas runs to the bus stop, he stops in his tracks. It’s pouring rain outside.
“Wait, Eliott, where are you? Are you safe?” he asks through the phone pressed to his ear, out of breath, his hair and clothes drenched already.
Except Eliott doesn’t answer. He just continues on his tangent and makes Lucas more worried with each word, “So why should I care about making a future for myself if I’ll just end up going into oblivion? We live on a tiny speck of dust, in the grand scheme of things. There’s no way anything I do is going to change that.”
His voice is robotic and matter-of-fact. Like he’s made up his mind about all this. And when he takes shelter back in the lobby, Lucas doesn’t hear rain at all on the other line.
And then it hits him. The only place that Eliott could possibly be looking at the stars and planets right now, in Paris, where even the weather couldn’t hinder it. And thank the heavens, because it is much closer than the park where they stargazed that one night.
“Eliott, I know where you are, and I’m coming, okay? Please, just stay where you are until I get there. We’ll talk then, okay?”
Lucas runs, and runs and runs, until he reaches the door. The people inside are about to lock it, but Lucas urgently informs them that he needs to see someone inside immediately. The receptionist lets him in, and he goes straight to the planetarium.
The room is extremely dark, save for the glow of the images presented on the dome-shaped ceiling and the small orange dashed lines on the floor. He follows the trail of orange until he spots a bare knee peeking out of ripped jeans, that belongs to the messy head of hair leaning back in the seat. Lucas sits next to him and tries to regain his breath and let his eyes adjust to the darkness. He is so relieved to have found him.
“Hey,” Lucas rests his hand on top of Eliott’s, which is resting in the older boy’s lap. “I’m here.” Lucas squeezes his hand and exhales, “I’m here.” Perhaps more to himself than to Eliott this time.
Eliott tries to hide his face, but it is difficult to do so when the seats are positioned to lean back and toward the ceiling. The dim glow of the universe above highlights the tear tracks on his cheeks, and Lucas just wants to hug him so tight and so close that nothing could ever harm him ever again.
But he’s seen this too many times to know that the catalyst responsible for the pain Eliott is experiencing is in his own head, and not from external demons. He also knows how careful he must be around Eliott when he gets like this — to not be overbearing and swooping in like he needs a savior, because he doesn’t; he knows Eliott just needs to be reminded that he is loved and he is valid for feeling whatever he is feeling, and that Lucas is there when he’s ready.
Lucas has learned not to say something like it will all be okay or everything will be alright because he knows that is just a bullshit lie he’s been told too many times in his life — both of them, actually. Because if everything was alright and if everything was okay, they wouldn’t be here and wouldn’t have to go through the pain that these words couldn’t even make go away.
“Eli, look at me,” he says softly, turning to see him better and slowly place his hand on Eliott’s face to guide it towards him. When Eliott finally does look at him, he seems so fragile, like the light inside his eyes has burned out.
It’s like his eyes are a transit — a phenomenon where exoplanets are discovered to be orbiting another body through the dimming of the star’s light. His eyes are enormous stars that shine so bright, but now that light is dimmed by something that passes in front of it. What is it that is taking your light away? Lucas wants to ask. What caused this downward spiral and darkened everything in its path? And what can I do to stop it, to help?
The sight makes tears well in Lucas’ eyes, wishing he could somehow take all the pain and hurt away. But he doesn’t let them fall, refuses to fall apart when Eliott needs him whole right now.
The good thing about this, however, is that that light never stops shining — it is just temporarily being blocked from the outside viewer. Much like a cloud blocking the Sun, it will pass. And that light will come again, because it always does.
Lucas knows that light is still somewhere inside and will do anything to get it back.
“I know it can seem like we don’t matter when the universe is so big, and scary, sometimes. And you are allowed to feel however you feel. But you do matter. You matter, Eliott.” Lucas takes a few breaths, his grasp on Eliott’s hand still strong.
“You matter to me.” It comes out quiet and softer than his other words, lacing it with all the love and care he can muster to drive the point home, because Lucas can’t even fathom a universe without Eliott in it, without loving and being loved by him.
“And you know, when I feel small and insignificant, I like to think about the Copernican principle. I am not sorry for getting nerdy this time, we are in a planetarium, after all.” Lucas tries to lighten the mood briefly, tries to take some of the weight off both their shoulders.
Eliott seems more relaxed now, sitting up slightly to engage with what Lucas is about to say. Eliott looks at him as if communicating, what do you mean?
It’s this moment when Lucas sees the book Lucas was reading that one day in the library, when Eliott took his hand and told him that what he likes isn’t stupid. The book is shoved between the cushion and the armrest on the opposite side of Eliott from him.
“The Copernican principle — as in Copernicus, who found that the Sun is the center of our Solar System, not Earth — states that ‘we as humans are not privileged observers of the universe’. Because we tend to make everything about ourselves, including thinking the system of planets revolves around us. When it in fact does not,” Lucas laughs a little at the last sentence, even raises an index finger in the air to emphasize the point.
(And, okay, maybe Arthur had a point on Halloween.)
Lucas sits back in his chair, bringing their hands to rest in his lap now. They look at the vast universe above them, reminding them that they are a part of it, not just looking at it from afar. And Lucas thinks, it really does work in mysterious ways. It’s both comforting and terrifying, a home and an escape, infinite but with so many bounds.
“And it could also mean that there is extraterrestrial life out there somewhere. Because aliens definitely exist, I mean, there’s just no way we are the only living beings in the infinite universe. So, we are not alone,” You are not alone, goes unsaid.
When he looks back at Eliott, his eyes are closed and his chest is rising and falling with his deep breaths. Lucas presses a kiss to the back of the hand he’s holding, and then another for good measure.
“Thank you.” Eliott’s voice is thick with emotion now, still sad and somber, but Eliott. Like the slightest glimpse of his light breaking through.
The door opens and lets in the light from the lobby, signaling to Lucas they have overstayed their welcome.
“As much as I could go on about aliens and as much as I would love to stay here with you, I think we should let these people go home. And we should too.”
Lucas stands and tucks the book into his jacket. Eliott lets him take him through the doors and back out to the street, where Eliott immediately pulls him in for a hug that is as tight and warm as possible on the damp and cold evening.
It’s not raining nearly as hard as before, but still sprinkling. They have weathered worse storms than this one, so it’s nothing they can’t handle.

The complete list of fics available for the Inception Big Bang 2019 is here!
Works are numbered, without the authors names to preserve the mystery. Artists, when you're ready to make your decision send us an email or a tumblr message with your top 3 choices. Fics will be claimed depending on availability, on a first come first served basis.
On this round we will only assign one artist per fic. Artists that wish to claim a second fic, or that wish to work on a fic that has already been claimed should check out the second round, on July 2nd. All fics will be open for all.
Without further delay, here they are:
1. Arthur and Eames meet as trust fund teens in a Manhattan private school. Eames is a new student who's just moved from overseas, and him and Arthur hit it off immediately. Friendship turns to a whirlwind summer romance, until Eames is forced to move back to London. They meet again many years later when Arthur has to kidnap Eames for a job.

2. A songfic featuring Aubrey by Bread, studying Arthur and Eames and what their relationship might have been like before the Fischer job. The characters aren't going to resemble fanon (Arthur's closed-off persona and Eames's flirtiness). I'm going to try to expand more on what Nolan gave us during the movie (Arthur's straightforwardness and Eames's aloof/cold personality). Basically, Eames is distant and Arthur chases.

* There might be a torture scene, but I'm still debating on whether or not I want that in the story.

3. A fic about arthur and eames and their first meeting in the military to all their other meetings in the criminal underworld of dreamshare. not that long, i'm aiming for 2.5k or maybe 3k if i can. i wanted to focus on their totems and how eames could use forging as a totem (because if he can't forge then he must be awake, right?) but he has a totem just in case. and arthur has a totem (the die from the movie) that he uses a lot more except when he happens to be taken and tortured for some secret or another and the only thing that convinces his brain that he isn't dreaming is the way eames stands when arthur aims a gun at him? if that makes sense....
here's a little bit of what i have written so far:
he’s more surprised at the lack of surprise he feels when eames digs a poker chip out of his desk. its blood red with gold and white accents, worth five thousand dollars at the particular casino it came from, disregarding the fact that it was arthur’s shitty first and last attempt at a real world forge after he participated in a poker game eames held on base many years ago and realized half the chips in the set were fake, pocketing a one thousand dollar chip to use as a reference.
“our totems match,” eames murmurs, flipping the chip over his knuckles with a concentration a bit too intense for something he could do in his sleep (ha).
“match how?” he asks, sipping a glass of orange juice, freshly squeezed because eames wanted to use the electric juicer. he's tempted to pull out his die from his pocket and roll to see it land on five, even though he knows this isn’t a dream.
“i have something that you made, and you have something i made. also, there’s some significance with the number five.”

Graphic Depictions of Violence*
*I put the Graphic Depictions of Violence just to be safe but i think it's less than what's shown in the film? because it's supposed to be like an after-torture scene where arthur is like "ouch i'm super hurt and drugged and don't know if i'm dreaming" but again i don't think it's any more graphic than the film at least. might keep that tag just to be safe though idk
.
4. When dreamshare is first developed, no one has totems. They've always gone into dreams for short amounts of time and always with another person, so there's no chance of someone forgetting their reality. Mal's friend Pip has consistently been pushing the boundaries of dreaming, and one day she decides to go a later deeper without Mal. When Mal wakes up, she realizes that Pip is still asleep and she has to go down after her where she basically incepts Pip with the idea of totems.

5. There was a small lake behind Arthur's house. The following night, he sat at its edge and stared at the moon's reflection in the water.
See something you like?
Arthur turned. A man was sitting next to him.
"Hello," Arthur said. "Thank you for helping me get home last night."
The moon smiled. "How did you know it was me?"
Arthur rolled his eyes. He picked up a pebble and tossed it into the water, watching the waves ripple the reflection. "How can you be here and there at the same time?"
The moon leaned back on his elbows and stared up at the sky. "Same way I can be in the lake and the sky at the same time."
Arthur frowned. "That's not the same thing. The lake's just reflecting the light from the moon. From you."
The moon turned to smile brightly at him. "Well aren't you a smart one, hm?" He leaned in and whispered, "I'm a reflection, too. We all are, at the end of the day."
Arthur thought about that. It didn't make sense, but that didn't mean it was wrong. He looked up at the moon in the sky, then at the moon sitting next to him.
"My name's Arthur," he offered. "What's your name?"
The moon looked at him strangely. "Eames. You can call me Eames."
"I'm going to be an astronaut, Eames," Arthur said. "Then I can come and visit you in the sky."
Eames smiled again. Arthur wouldn't have thought the moon liked to smile. "I would like that very much," Eames said. "Very much, indeed."

9. When Eames first moved to America, he was at a loss for things to cook. He wasn’t used to the supermarkets and ingredients he needed were expensive. So he Googled food bloggers and found Arthur’s blog. The weekly updates keep Eames going in his boring office job. It takes him a few months before he gets the courage to comment but it’s all downhill from there. Eames is lost with Arthur’s sardonic commentary and when Arthur’s next recipe is one Eames requested, he knows he’s in bad.

11. Haunted House AU. Arthur’s working at a popular horror maze escape place to make some extra money over the summer. It’s far from his dream job—making minimum wage crouching behind dark trap doors and chasing random couples and tourists—but at least he gets to vent his frustrations about his coworkers (who are, frankly, driving him insane day by day) by literally screaming at customers. Then there’s Eames, who finds haunted houses boring, overrated, and not the least bit frightening, but is willing to humor a friend (Ariadne?) by accompanying her. But an encounter (and some painfully obvious flirting) with the cute guy under the ghoul mask is enough to make him want to come back again, and again, and again—
FEATURING:
- Cobb as the owner/boss and the only guy who actually takes his job seriously. He probably squints a lot because sunlight genuinely hurts his eyes lmao - Mal as his wife, who used to be an actress but left to start a business with Dom. Super sweet and kind of protective of their employees. Plays the main ghost. She’s terrifying. - Yusuf doing their costumes and makeup!!!!
- Arthur getting the job in the first place because his screams are so full of rage (let! him! rest!)
- Eames blowing all his cash on haunted house admission fees so he can flirt with Arthur (who plays different roles on different days, maybe? but Eames can always recognize him, even under the masks/makeup)
- he’s not trying to be creepy, he just wants to ask if he can see him outside of work/get his number—but something always goes wrong before he can
- Arthur being frustrated because Eames is a) distracting, and b) not easily scared, which doesn’t look good for his job. And it annoys him because he has a track record of being able to freak out anyone. He takes it upon himself to make him scream at least once (I haven’t decided how he does, but he does, eventually. Eames probably jokes about screaming with something other than fear, but i am too babey to write any sexytimes)
- maybe??? mild h/c?? Dumbass Drunk College Students coming in all wanting to prove to their friends that they're the Alpha Male, picking a fight and being super violent/rowdy/destructive, + arthur getting hurt/generally kind of shaken up; that’s the first night he lets eames really talk to him outside of the job, maybe even lets him take him home (i dont know if im including this scene for sure but..perhaps)
- Ariadne getting them banned from the haunted house after reflexively slapping Arthur in the face with a rubber snake (Cobb takes the ‘no touching the actors’ rule seriously—especially after what happened^). Eames thinks he’s lost his chance for good, but Arthur finds him outside and finally makes the first move :)

12. Arthur is in love with Eames, and he's pretty sure Eames is at least interested in him back. Only problem? Arthur is ace, and not at all sure how Eames is going to react to that. But Arthur's going to talk to him about it, because the alternative is to lose even his friendship with the forger, and that's just not on.
Only the team is also determined to set the two of them up. Will that end up being a wrecking ball to Arthur's fragile attempts at making things work with Eames?
STORY OUTLINE:
Arthur is ace, and no one knows. When Eames invites Arthur to join him for Christmas, Arthur panics and says no - and spends the whole of Christmas regretting it. The team comes back from Christmas break, and everything is awkward. Arthur knows he has to say something or ruin his relationship with Eames forever, and he's going to do that at the New Year's party where Eames will hopefully be in a good enough
But unbeknownst to him, he's not the only one who's realized something needs to happen. Cobb, Ariadne and Yusuf agree that an intervention is in order. And when better to set their two friends up than at New Years? Get them kissing and surely the tension between them will resolve itself.
What could possibly go wrong?
At the New Year's party, Ariadne suggests playing a game of spin the bottle. Arthur is less than enthused, but Cobb and Yusuf both back up the idea. They play a few rounds before it lands on Eames, whom Ariadne dares to make out with Arthur.
There's an awkward beat before Eames moves to do it. Arthur reacts by freezing and shying away physically. Eames takes this a rejection and leaves the room. Arthur sits there, frozen, and then leaves too.
He goes to the bathroom and breaks down, blaming himself for being so stupid and backwards. Eames hears him, and comes in and comforts him. Once Eames realizes what the problem is - that Arthur is ace - he promises Arthur that it doesn't matter to him, he just wants to be close to him. Cue happy end credits.

13. Arthur learned a long time ago that he was special, and no else could see the strings.
Or, ‘everything is still the same, but Arthur can see Red Strings of Fate’ AU.
There are moments when Arthur thinks he needs to tell Eames about the strings. Owes him the truth, he thinks, Eames deserves to know. Other times – well.
Eames knows enough, and he has secrets of his own. Arthur is allowed this one.
Maybe someday it will come up on Sunday brunch, or something.
“Oh yeah, by the way, I can see red strings that I’m pretty sure are tied up to being literal soulmates and we have one. Get it? Tied up hehe. Anyway, no pressure or anything. Love the sex.”
Yeah, Arthur, that would go lovely.

14. Arthur has a goldfish which, long story short, he has convinced himself he only needs to keep alive to prove he is not a hot mess. Except now it’s not looking so good and has a weird sore on its side and he doesn’t know what to do but he can’t just let it DIE. So he takes it to the vet and is scoffed at and told it is a feeder goldfish, they cost less than a dollar, just get a new one.
Two vets later and he’s at the end of his rope when he meets Dr Eames, whose dog is introduced as his PA and goes on all his rounds with him. Dr Eames doesn’t even question it, just starts the exam and tells Arthur to pet the dog and start at the beginning while he works.

15. Eames is working with Arthur the first time in a long while, only now it seems that he has a huge crush on Arthur. He doesn't know how else to get rid of the crush and he really can't concentrate on the job when he's thinking about Arthur all the time, so he asks Arthur to have sex with him, to get the crush out of his system. Arthur agrees surprisingly easily and sex is great, but afterwards Arthur doesn't seem happy and Eames' crush is worse than ever. The more Eames tries to get rid of his crush, the more it sticks, and the less Arthur is talking to him. After the job, Eames has some time to think and he realises that maybe neither of them really wanted for him to get over Arthur. He goes to see Arthur to talk to him about it, but they end up kissing and stuff as well.

16. Summary: Eames hasn't seen Arthur in almost four years.
Pseudo- Winter Soldier AU.
--
There's no response from Arthur, no recognition in his eyes. No banter, no teasing – a coldness that would leave any lesser man with severe frostbite.
"... Arthur?" The words sound so raw, so gutted in Eames’ mouth. "Are you-" are you alive? Are you dead? Am I dreaming?
He reaches for his poker chip.
But before he can trace the ridges for the familiar grooves, a shot rings out loud like a crack of lightning.
And the last thing that Eames sees is Arthur and how he always remembers him: in his whip-black suit and a smoking gun in his hand.
Bang.
A single bullet tears through Eames' temples, and he is ripped open, pain lighting every nerve in his body like a pinball machine – and he prays to god that this is merely a dream so he can finally wake up.

Call Me Sir - Aaravos/Viren
Tumblr media
Rating: Mature (18+)
Fandom: The Dragon Prince; Aaravos x Viren (Viravos)
Word Count: 1,800
A/N: Two different versions of the same idea - Viren is a manager and Aaravos is the talent. They're not supposed to be anything more than that. // all writing account: @lokiiwood
Alternatively read on AO3:  https://archiveofourown.org/works/18441164/chapters/43685489
Version 2 - “Distant from the Talent”
Inspired by the 80's AU fanart of Abigail Salier!

“Are you my new footboy? Never seen one quite like you.”
“I'm your new manager.”
He laughed. Viren sighed, pushing his sunglasses onto his head. The elf sitting on the raven, plush couch before him had arrived early and Viren had already told himself not to stare before he came into the room. Of course he heard of Aaravos the ‘Shining Rockstar.’ Before they even spoke of his dancing and singing, they whispered about his enchanting, star-studded skin that reflected brilliantly off disco balls. They awed over how even his eccentric, various animal prints he wore all at once didn’t look so bad - on him. Viren was already exhausted from the tiger and leopard headband he wore in addition to his zebra pants and pink, giraffe accessories. Why was the talent always like...this?
Whatever. Viren could handle a delinquent, even if he wasn’t...wearing a shirt? He tore his eyes away after realizing the star on his muscular chest was part of him. He heard Aaravos stand and pretended to check over his clipboard, adjusting his suit as the elf approached.
“Aren’t you a cute, little thing.”
Cute?
The word that had to be sarcasm made Viren look again. What the - oh, they didn’t mention how tall he was. All elves were, but Aaravos was...tall. Aaravos quite literally looked down on him as he fixed his loose headband, glittering muscles flexing. Was that on purpose? Ugh.
“Yes, yes, I’m shorter than you. Anyway, it is a pleasure to formally meet you.”
Viren held out his hand and Aaravos gently took it, softly clasping it between his two, beautiful hands.
“Naturally, it is a pleasure to meet you too,” he grinned, his freckles briefly twinkling as those bronzy coins bore into him. Were his scleras always like this? He thought the black would be off-putting from the photos he'd seen, but in-person they were…captivating.
Viren took his hand back awkwardly, the warmth of his touch lingering. They told him the new rising star was a dangerous one, perhaps even a gamble. And it wasn't because of any violent history or questionable talent, it was because Aaravos knew he was gorgeous and hadn't learned any public speaking - or private, as he duly noted. It was a combination that made the best of them fade as quickly as they rose.
But Viren wasn't in a position to have that happen to his new talent. After the disaster at Katolis Records, this was his last chance to not fall into permanent obscurity and unhirability as a manager. He had kids to take care of, dammit.
“Yes. Ahem, I am Viren.”
“Oh yes! I know of you. Tell me, what will you do for me that you failed to at Katolis Records?”
Viren would not entertain this nonsense. He had enough of people looking down and doubting him, and since he couldn't do anything about Aaravos being oppressively tall at the very least he wouldn't put up with his quips.
“Perhaps save your complaints forafter we begin. Furthermore, if you actually saw my portfolio you'd know I have decades of positive experience.”
“Oh, really?” he mused, stepping forward and beginning to circle him as a prowling tiger might of trapped prey. But he refused to be intimidated. Viren kept his eyes on Aaravos until he finally stopped and hummed.
“Satisfied?” Viren scoffed.
“Very.” The dark and deep allure of his response caught him off-guard.
"Something interests you?" he chuckled.
"Ah - I was just thinking about your vocal range. They told me you're a bass but could go as high as a tenor."
“Oh, that's not true.”
“I figured. I'll ma-”
“I can also go as high as some altos.”
“...Aaravos, that's impossible.”
Aaravos’ eyes narrowed as his smile widened.
“And!” Viren interrupted before he could even start, “I'm not interested in hearing it right now either. We're both going to be very busy, very soon.”
“All business, that's interesting.”
Aaravos’ smile was knowing and secretive as he studied Viren's face.
“And how is it interesting?”
“I just assumed...hm, no wife I take it?”
“No.”
“Nor...husband?”
“What exactly are you getting at here? Can we cut to the point?”
Aaravos adjusted his obnoxious headband and shrugged. “It's just our first meeting is alone in a private room. Me, a youthful and gorgeous star, and you...not.”
Aaravos’ fingers tickled both of Viren’s arms, dawdling up in their alluring slow dance before the entertainer landed his arms on his shoulders. Aaravos took a step closer and Viren promptly took one back. He felt heat rising to his ears. Embarrassment or anger? Probably a healthy mix.
“I-I have nothing but professional interest in you. I'd appreciate it if we didn't discuss such strange things. I don't need a harassment lawsuit on my hands.”
“As if I'd report anything you did to me.”
“What?”
“Nothing. Disappointments aside, you may go ahead and ‘manage’ me, sir.”
Viren's rebuttal died on his lips. How was Aaravos doing that? His already deep voice would somehow echo and rattle him inside as if Aaravos was magically speaking into his ear.
What a handful. What he'd give for some humble talent who knew how to mind their own business, or at the very least not ask him about his ex-wife. Just once. Viren turned on his heel with a grumpy sigh and they returned to the ‘real world’ of the studio.
Aaravos followed him, but they were frequently interrupted by people in awe of his appearance. He towered over most as they passed and stole their attention, and Viren would be lying if he said he didn’t understand why. Aaravos was attractive - really attractive - and unnecessarily seductive. Their disaster of a meeting proved that fact, but Viren decided not to take his innuendos to heart.
Although rude, Aaravos was right. He was a young, gorgeous star and Viren was just a manager who wasn’t getting better in either apartment.
“Where are we going, sir?”
There went that tone again. Forget how - why was he doing that?
“To your new trailer, we have to get you settled in before those hippies start flooding our lots again.”
“Oh, an upcoming concert?”
“A war protest.”
“Oh.”
Aaravos sped up to walk side-by-side with him, glancing over every few seconds and practically begging for his attention as they escaped into the studio parking lot.
“Yes, Aaravos?”
"You let me call you ‘sir'...At first, I was being playful with you, but perhaps you really believe my good looks make me your junior?”
“...What are you saying?” Viren paused his walking to shoot an eyebrow up at the man with the most cat-like expression he’d ever seen.
“I’m much older than you. You should be calling me ‘sir.’”
“W-what? Do you mean by elf standards?”
Aaravos laughed and hooked his arm around his, tugging him to continue walking. Nervously, Viren’s eyes skimmed around them.
“I’m old by all standards. But we’ll round down to a 1,000 if anyone asks, alright?”
“Round down? Are you messing with me?”
“Not unless you want me to,” he purred. “So...how about calling me ‘sir’? Hm?”
Viren’s mouth trembled as he checked the clipboard. It was right there in print. Impossible. Aaravos was older than him. He couldn’t believe it. Aaravos was older than him and still looked like that.
“The...the trailer is the one with the star on it,” Viren mumbled, pointing with his chin and trying not to blister in his favorite tailored sweater.
“What a wonderful manager you are,” Aaravos gasped, although Viren wasn’t sure if it was sarcastic or not.
They arrived and Viren snatched his arm away and reached to unlock the vehicle, but Aaravos’ arm stopped him. It softly hit the door and Viren was trapped between the side of the trailer and his chest.
“Aaravos! D-dammit I told you-”
“Told me what?” he whispered, his white hair blocking out light as it fell down his face.
“I told...I told you...t-to…”
He couldn’t remember. Viren couldn’t remember a damn thing.
Aaravos’ free hand leisurely pulled his sunglasses down from his hair to settle on the bridge of his sweating nose.
His long fingers teased around his ear and Aaravos chuckled.
“Call me ‘sir’ if you want me to stop treating you so sweetly. I can be professional.”
Viren’s mouth parted, but he couldn’t even remember the magic word that Aaravos just promised to release him.
So he said nothing.
And he continued to say nothing when Aaravos’ perfect, buxom lips ghosted over his before muzzling him. Aaravos tasted nothing like how he looked or behaved - sweet and floral, even when he eased his lips open with an equally beguiling and calming tongue. The kiss almost felt natural and appropriate, not that he’d had one at all in years now. He forgot what they were like - but the memories of how nice they felt came rushing back.
Aaravos’ other arm wormed its way under his suit and up his chest, pushing his back fully against the trailer with suffocating seduction. The other arm that had trapped him pinched at his thigh before rubbing over his clothed crotch, coaxing out a straining response. Viren was being completely overwhelmed by Aaravos’ touch as three different sensations sent him spiraling into submission. The hand under his shirt finally found nipple, rolling it between his fingers as his other hand began to stroke the new shape outlining his pants.
“Nm…” It was an accident and embarrassing enough for Viren to shove his head back, thumping hard against the trailer as he rasped, inhaling as much air as he could.
Dammit. Dammit. Oh, what had he just done? Viren quickly shoved Aaravos’ hands off of him as he tried to regain his bearings. They were outside. Anyone could’ve seen how easily he’d been ensnared and how his shame was stretching and aching towards Aaravos.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m – you – no!” Viren attempted. Panic shook his words as his eyes darted around them in the parking lot. “I-I can’t mess this up. I have kids to take care of!” he tried to explain to the elf who moved his arms politely behind his back, completely casual. As if he’d just as easily do it again, as if ravaging his cohorts was just a normal part of his business.
Kids. That would scare him off, right? Viren could take solace in that. He was alone by choice, and he didn’t need to lose his job and what was left of his reputation just because Aaravos was...him!
Aaravos’ eyes crinkled with an amused smirk and Viren’s stomach dropped.
“How delightful, Viren. I love children.”

{MAKNAE LINE}
Tumblr media
Youngjae
Tumblr media
He never talked to you.
When he did, it always turned into an argument.
You weren't even trying anymore. None of it meant anything to you. You were only tolerating this because your family asked you to. They were known associates of the Mafia family you were married into.
You never participated in your family's work but this time you had little to no choice. At first, you imagined it wouldn't be that bad but it turned out to be a nightmare.
You never wanted to socialize but here you were, almost everyday, getting into these parties and so called meetings because "we go as a whole."
This was really getting on your nerves; Youngjae noticed as you were in the corner of the big hall all alone sipping on your cocktail.
"Is everything alright?" he walked over to stand in front of you.
Why is he so fucking hot? You thought to yourself. Sure, he was your husband but you guys barely even saw each other. His hair slightly parted and the side curves falling on the frame of his forehead.
Jesus, what a man.
"All good," you diverted your gaze from him to the bar island.
"Why are you moping then?" his voice was stern.
"I am not moping," you felt slightly offended.
"You need to socialize, Y/N. That's why we organize these events, to widen our reach," he said taking a seat next to you at the bar.
"Boo-hoo because I don't like socializing," you stated while holding up your index fingers to the bartender as a sign for another drink.
"Why not?"
"Not my thing."
"Is that how you dismiss everything?"
"Works, doesn't it?" you gave him a fake smile. Your anger was rising.
He scoffed at your answer.
"What? I am sorry I'm not like a normal person. I need time to get my energy back after I am done doing this shit. But as you need to do this every fucking day, it gets exhausting."
"No one's forcing you, Y/N," he was relatively calm.
You chuckled, "Like I have another choice."
"Make it strong," you told the bartender who was mixing your drink.
"I think you've had enough," Youngjae said.
"Who are you to decide?"
"A sober person who is also your husband."
You know there was no getting out of this.
"Whatever, go away," you stood up and walked out of the place to the main road to get some fresh air.
You've made a lot of bad decisions in your life and taking a walk turned out to be one of them.
God knows how you ended up in the back of a van; restrained.
You've often said that you'd rather die than socialize with people, but you didn't mean literally.
Turns out the people that kidnapped you were also at the party earlier. It was only a matter of time you would've been kidnapped as this seemed like an elaborate plan.
Youngjae must've noticed this too because it didn't take him much time to come and get these idiots who were now begging for their lives.
On the very first meeting many would assume that Youngjae might be a softie but boy, were they wrong. You don't know what his men did to the kidnappers but by the looks of Youngjae's actions; it was definitely something you'd rather not see.
"The party was better than this, wasn't it?" he asked you while lending you his black tux coat as you both stepped out of the abandoned building you were kept in for 5 minutes.
"Well.." you hesitated as if it wasn't a rhetorical question.
"Really? Talking to people is worse than getting kidnapped?"
"Are those really my only options? Talking to strangers and almost dying by the hands of strangers?"
"Don't be dramatic; you wouldn't have died," he stated while getting in the backseat of the car after you.
"You don't know that," you pouted.
"I wouldn't have let that happen," he said, "home," he told the driver seated in his shining black Porsche.
You didn't know what to say to that. Was it him being protective of the people he knew or was it him being protective of particularly you?
"Thanks, I guess."
"You don't have to talk to strangers; you could've just told me that it made you uncomfortable," he spoke while looking out of the window.
"Telling you that would've made me uncomfortable too," you mumbled as you fiddled with your fingers in your lap.
"What doesn't make you uncomfortable?" he asked genuinely still looking at the stuff that appeared to be running past the car.
"I don't know. Um- movies calm me down, I guess. I watch a lot of them."
"Well, let's watch a movie with snacks when we get home," you could almost hear his smile through these words.
BamBam
Tumblr media
This bitch was testing you so much. He never even looked at you but was surrounds by girls all the time.
Sure, it was an arranged marriage, but you were still his wife! He would be with other girls in public and you know how fucking humiliating it is for you.
You would not be surprised if you found out that he was sleeping with one or all of these girls, but you would be hurt to the core. You were his wife.
It was a small get together; you were told. Turned out to be a huge ass party. And Bambam was, of course, surrounded by girls with skin on display. They were very hot, indeed.
It made you so insecure. Maybe that's why he never looks at you? Maybe you're not attractive? Great.
You'll find someone who'll find you attractive, if not Bambam. You don't need self-doubt. You were beautiful as you were and no one can tell you otherwise.
Eric, a family friend, always complimented you. He would be the one to notice the small changes you made in order to get some reaction from Bambam, but it never worked. Eric was the only one who would notice the small details, which made you feel less insecure.
You walked away to find Eric who was sitting on the sofa in the corner of the big room. He saw you walk in and passed a huge smile and nodded his head towards the empty seat next to him.
You guys talked, and you did not hold back on the flirting. Why would you care? He was cute and interested, that's all that matters. You said something blunt about the way Ms. Rivera nagged every person which made Eric laugh out loud with his head thrown back. Somehow his hand found its way on your thigh, and you didn't mind it.
You were having fun with him when you felt someone looking at you from the corner of your eye. You didn't notice it at first but that someone kept coming closer and closer until..
"Y/N! What are you doing?" Bambam spit out in an angry tone standing in front of the sofa you and Eric were seated on.
"Joining the circus. Why?" you replied nonchalantly which made Eric giggle a bit. He always noticed that Bambam never treated you right and it always made his blood boil.
"Wow, really funny. I need to talk to you," he lowered his voice.
"Why?"
"What do you mean, why? I just do."
You just kept staring at him with a blank face till the point he lost his patience and grabbed you by the wrist to drag you out of the mansion.
"What is your problem?!" you spoke loudly while rubbing your wrists.
"You flirting with other men," he said in the deepest voice with the deadliest eye contact.
"Ha!" you laughed, "You're one to say."
He scoffed.
"You were the one who was always around other girls, and I talk to one guy so suddenly it's a problem for you?" you said sternly.
"How was I supposed to know that was bothering you?" he asked genuinely. Is he for real?
"Are you that fucking oblivious?" your volume got a bit higher.
"Was I supposed to understand how you felt through telepathy?!" he threw his hands in the air and turned around so that his back was facing you.
He sighed and put his hands on his waist while looking down, "You know, I am not good at this; I just thought you didn't feel the same way as I did. I mean, you were pretty miserable when we got married. I just figured I should give you some space."
No answer. Bambam felt a bit embarrassed after admitting how he felt and getting absolutely no reply from your side.
"Oh, now's the time you decided to stop talking?" he chuckled and turned around.
His entire body went stiff at the sight in front of him.
You were there with a gun to your head with a hand thrown on your mouth preventing you from making any sounds.
"You fucking-"
"Save it for later. Step back or I'll shoot her right here," you heard a manly voice coming from the person who kept you from moving. Your eyes were tight shut as you didn't want to believe this was happening. He dragged you backwards and you felt the pressure exerted from the tip of the gun loosen when you took the que and swinged your right leg with all the power you had to kick him in the balls with the heel of your foot. You got a grip on his hand at the same time and pushed it up so even if he pulled the trigger, it won't go through your brain.
Thankfully Bam's men came and handled the situation as many guys were there to pose threat at you. Bambam didn't care about anything except you and whether you were okay or not.
He half walked-half ran to you before you wrapped your arms around him and he did the same. Your chin rested on his shoulder; one of his hands held the back of your head and the other was tight around your waist.
"I am so sorry, Y/N, fuck I can't believe that son of a bitch-" he started but got cut off by you, "no, thank you for being here. I was so scared," you squeezed your eyes shut as more tears spilled out.
His hand caressed your back while you gradually started taking long breaths and finally came to the realization that you were safe, right where you were, in his arms.
"It's funny," Bambam chuckled, "I never put my guard down; and the one time I do, this happens."
You gave out a weak laugh before detaching yourself from him, "We need to talk about that," you finally looked into his eyes as he wiped the half dried tears from your cheek.
"We have all the time to do that, you need to rest first," he instructed while walking you towards the car waiting to escort you both home.
The entire ride home was just both of you cuddled into each other as you rested your head on his shoulder. You could definitely get used to this.
Yugyeom
Tumblr media
Everything felt very hypocritical. On one side, your sister-in-law always said that Yugyeom cared about you; on the other hand, he always acted cold towards you.
"Hey! What if I get kidnapped or something?" you whined at Yugyeom when he didn't care for your presence.
"No one would do that, you're too annoying to deal with," he cockily remarked while shaking his head to the hideous outfit the manager showed him.
"Wow, rude," you were offended. You weren't that annoying, were you?
"You know what? Pick the pair outfits by yourself, I am going home," you shoved the hanger with a dark blue tux into Yugyeom's chest.
"And how are you going to do that?" he questioned but you were already on your way out of the designer clothes showroom.
This was for a huge event you had to go to and your sister-in-law came up with the idea of wearing matching outfits with her husband which prompted Yugyeom's mother to ask you both to do the same. You were even a couple, how was this supposed to work anyway?
Yes, you both were married, but that didn't mean anything. You both were almost strangers to each other.
He was an ass. You really wanted to punch his perfect teeth out; all of them. As you walked out of the shopping complex, you felt a tap on your shoulder. You turned around to find an old lady looking confused.
"Can I help you?"
"I broke my glasses," she held up a pair of smashed specs, "can you show me the way to the parking area? My husband is waiting for me over there," she gave a defeated smile.
So, you took her to the parking lot, where you found out that you got tricked. There was no husband, but only 20 men waiting for your arrival.
"Fuck," you tried to run back but you were surrounded. As you opened your mouth to scream, a hand flew over your parted lips which muffled your cries for help.
You were actually getting kidnapped, after you joked about it like 20 minutes ago. Was this a hidden camera? That would be better.
They locked you in the back of the van and drove out of the parking lot when suddenly the van halted.
You heard a few gunshots that made you flinch. The van's back door was finally opened by Yugyeom who had a visibly angry expression plastered all over your face.
"You got yourself kidnapped just to prove a point or what?" he asked as he pulled you out of the vehicle.
"Yeah, I did that on purpose," you snapped, "they kidnapped me despite of me being annoying."
"You were kidnapped for literally a minute, calm down," he said casually as he walked between the dead bodies and you followed him like a lost puppy.
Gross.
"It was still very traumatic," you mumbled, "they were better than you."
He stopped in his tracks.
"You're saying, the people who wanted to hurt you were better than the person who saved you?" He turned around to face you with a poker face.
"Now that you put it like that.."
"You know the real reason why I said that no one could kidnap you?" he said, "because I would never let anyone ever hurt you. Even when they think about doing that, they'll be dead before it happens," he gestured towards the dead men lying on the ground.
"You're really weird. You act like you hate me; but then you also go around saying stuff like that to me," you were utterly confused.
"That's just how I am to the people I care about," he stated as he took a step towards you.
"Did you just admit that you care about me?" you tried to hold back from smiling like an idiot.
"No?" he scratched the back of his neck as he diverted his gaze to somewhere else.
"Too late," you had a wide grin, "let's go baby boy," you gestured him to follow you.
He did follow you, "what did you just call me?"
"Baby boy. Do you like it?" You turned your head to look at him while still walking like a happy 5 year old toddler, "Kinky."
He was flustered by your actions, "Wha- you- you do realize I'm the head of the mafia?" he followed you like a lost puppy to the car waiting for you both; oh, how the tables have turnt.
"You do realize I'm married to the head of the mafia?" you gave him a stern gaze.
He laughed while shaking his head, "you're too much."

Soulmate!Seungmin
we’re 5/9 of the way done, who’s next?
hey ho let’s go
we back with another soulmate au fam
you’ve got a black stain where your soulmate is supposed to touch you for the first time and it turns into millions of colors the day they do
many people have them on their palms, waiting for that fated handshake
people have them on their knuckles, afraid that their first meeting with their soulmate is a violent encounter while others are afraid they’ll never notice the blooming of colors when they knuckles brush each other and they missed meeting their other half
while you on the other hand have a whole other problem
your black stain is on your cheek
you were told by your peers for years that your soulmate was going to slap you when you first met
as to why you believed them, you didn’t understand
you’ve had this whole scenario playing in your head ever since you could remember
you getting slapped by your soulmate and the colors forming and somehow just because your soulmate did it it meant that the slap didn’t mean anything
your parents tried to convince you that someone was just going to touch your cheek
but caressing someone’s cheek when you first meet them?
that’s not normal
as for your soulmate
he hated his black stain
it was in the most inconvenient of places and wasn’t pleasing to the eye (at least in his opinion)
he hoped one day when he met his soulmate they wouldn’t mind
and that the colors would at least make it pretty
and his friends would tease him about it day after day
as if they hadn’t been seeing it for years now
where this mark is, is a tale for another day ;)
so, you need an fine arts credit to pass high school
you were a bit excited because you decided to take theater
that was until you realized the embarrassment the class would entail
you were forced to do mimes and improve skits and monologues and make up your own play based on a fairy tale and perform it for little kids
you weren’t one to get embarrassed too easily but you’d never been so embarrassed in one class before
and it’s not like you were a terrible actor
sure, you weren’t the best the class had but at least you tried
it’s just having to stand in front of your whole class and do things you’ve never done before was a bit mortifying
there was one kid, Seungmin, who you began to take notice of ever since he did his monologue for the class
you could tell he was extremely shy by the way his cheeks turned a bright red when he went up
but all his emotions were clear and it was like he was actually the character
as time went on and you did even more things, his acting got better and better
like for being in theater 1 the kid was amazing
even your other classmates were impressed even if they didn’t care for the class or were never paying attention
and don’t even get you started with the fairy tale play you had to do or little kids
his group did a play about Goldilocks and the three bears
he was so happy about being able to perform in front of the children, he made sure to greet each and every one before they began
and not to even mention how cute he was as papa bear
you literally wanted to squish his cheeks but instead you settled on taking a video of the whole thing and watching it when you’re sad because you’re lame
is that creepy? i don’t think it’s creepy?
anyways
your teacher announces that your doing a play involving the entire class and you’re super excited to see how it goes
which you shouldn’t be because anything involving your classmates Jisung and Felix and acting was going to be a disaster
but that meant you were finally in a group with Seungmin which you’d been waiting for this whole year
he just had such a presence that made you want to know more and more
everyone encouraged him to try out for the part of the main lead but he kept saying he wasn’t good enough blah blah blah
but he ended up doing it anyway because Jisung forced him
and that’s what prompted you to try out for the other main lead
you don’t know how you did it but you got the part as well as Seungmin
honestly speaking you didn’t read through the whole play only about the first half
so during your first read-through of the play you found out that you and Seungmin had a kiss scene which completely caught you both off guard
when finding out, the two of you were blushing messes who couldn’t even finish reading the rest of your lines
your teacher just said to do a stage kiss but that didn’t help calm your nerves
all your friends were teasing you while Seungmin’s friends were congratulating him which didn’t help either of you in the slightest
for a good while it made you think about your black stain that was on your cheek
making up different scenarios that Seungmin was going to kiss you and your colors were going to finally come into view
which made sense considering the boy’s stain was on his lips
oh, haha, did I forget to mention that?
that's what you found most intriguing at first
the color took up about ¾ of his lips and every so slightly found its way onto his face
you could only imagine how pretty it was going to be when it turned into millions of colors
you found yourself a bit jealous of whoever he was destined to be with
he seemed like such an interesting kid and you kept finding yourself thinking about him and wanting to know more about him
but sadly, stage kisses just meant hiding your faces or putting your thumbs against the others lips so they don’t actually touch
you both agreed that you could leave the whole kissing scene to opening night so you wouldn’t have to keep doing it over and over again when you rehearsed
after countless hours of practicing and countless times you've laid in bed thinking about how the kiss scene was going to go it was finally opening night
you were extremely nervous you were going to mess up but Seungmin, even though you could tell the kid was more nervous than you, kept reassuring you that you’d be great and all your practice was going to pay off
you got through the first half of the play fine, only forgetting one line but thankfully it wasn’t noticeable
which left the second half of the play and you were  s t r e s s i n g
how was the kiss going to go?
are we really just going to hide our face and pretend nothing is happening?
or wait, am I putting my thumbs on his lips and pretending?
you realized that you never actually agreed on what you were going to do before it was too late and you were already on stage
finally the kiss scene was coming up
all your peers in the audience had their cameras out
all your fellow actors on stage were evidently ready as well
‘well, i guess this only means one thing’
‘can i kiss you?’
Seungmin realized then and there you hadn’t decided what you were going to do either
you leaned forward while he leaned to the side, both thinking too opposite things
and that led to his lips brushing against your cheek
surprise surprise
both of you felt your stains begin to heat up and looked at each other as the black color began transforming into million of beautiful colors
it was like nothing you had ever seen or imagined before
something like this wasn’t possible to describe, it was magically really
you both stood there completely speechless, forgetting to go on with the ending of the play
the audience was quiet for a few moments too before they began to crazily cheer at the scene before them
the teacher from the sidelines was telling you guys to go on but neither of you could move from your spots
without properly finishing, the curtains closed and the room fell into whispers about how amazing the play was and questioning if it was real or not
you and Seungmin finally came back into reality
red-cheeked and nervous smiles
the plays that continued for the next few days never did amount to the first one but when the audience watched Seungmin kiss your cheek they realized that the pair of you were soulmates
it completed the play more than the ending did for many
you were glad your friends got the first night on video so you could watch that instead for as long as you wanted
after the plays were finished you and Seungmin began got more comfortable with each other and finally began to understand your fascination with one another
slowly but surely, kisses on the cheek were your favorite thing and Seungmin began to love the mark that he once hated
with a little extra reassurance from you of course
fate works in funny ways
even if it seems like an accident
