Jarvis: Do you ever wonder why you're still single?  Bowie, eating mayonnaise straight out of the jar with a spoon: Yeah... I mean, I'm perfect! Who wouldn't want to date me? Jarvis, sighing: I can name a few people...

It's been a year since FBI: International premiered and I though since it started it's second season (it still hasn't premiered here in the Philippines) and I'm still not convinced it doesn't have the same concept as my beloved Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (I love this series sooo much). There a few difference like:
The IRT is based in DC while the Fly team is based in Budapest (the capital of Hungary if anyone doesn't know by now)
The IRT's jet is (in my guess) some kind of Boeing while the Fly team's jet is the same as the BAU's jet (it look like the f***ing same)
All the members of the Fly team go to the country they're needed while only four out of the five members of the IRT go to that country.
All the members of the IRT are part of the FBI while one of the five members for the Fly team (not including the dog [yes, the Fly team has a dog]) is a Europol agent.
That being said there are a few similarities:
There at a multilingual member.
IRT: Clara Seger::the Fly team: Katrin Jeager
There's one member whose amazing with a computer.
IRT: Russel "Monty" Montgomery::the Fly team: Andre Raines (from what I saw yes)
A boss you don't want to mess with.
IRT: Jack Garrett::the Fly team: Scott Forrester; and
The team acts like a family.

Quick Nap - Seth Jarvis
a/n: a small idea that came to me since i watched the clip of him talking about how much he loves naps :)
word count: 869
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a stormy afternoon in Raleigh and you were lounging around on the couch, reading a book and curled up under a blanket. Seth was in his office playing video games, as he usually does on his days off, which he had a couple in a row this time until their next game.
The rain had lightened up a little bit but there was another storm cell that was rolling in, making the house grow dark from the grey, gloomy clouds. The TV was set on the weather channel as you were quietly monitoring it to make sure it wasn’t too severe.
Thunder sounds in the distance and your nerves ease at the sound; reading during a thunderstorm was your favorite kind of vibe, so much so that you had a whole playlist on youtube with ambient rain sounds that you often put on when reading.
But now, the TV was turned down as quiet as it could go and you returned to reading as the storm continues to move in. Moments after the downpour starts, Jarvy comes strolling in, rubbing his eyes with a blanket wrapped around his shoulders. Glancing up from your book, you grin at him and watch him trudge through the living room.
“Hey, you winning?” You ask in reference to the video games he had been playing all morning. He just grumbles and falls onto the couch with you.
You set your book on the armrest of the couch, thinking he wanted to sit and talk or maybe watch a movie, but instead, he curls up beside you and lays with his head in your lap, facing your stomach, his eyes already closed. He doesn’t say a word, and instead sighs heavily and relaxes.
You figured out that all he wanted to do was take a nap, and he wanted to be with you when he did.
It was no surprise that Jarvy loves napping. It’s something he told you on the first date, that he naps a lot and pretty much any chance he gets. And you were very aware that once you two started dating, he enjoyed napping on you, as he claimed it was comfortable and he felt safe.
That last comment from him always felt like a compliment, how he felt safe in your presence enough to fall asleep in your lap. And every chance he got, if you were home and not busy, he was wanting to sleep with his head on your legs.
You smile down at him and look back up at the TV, turning the sound off completely, even though Seth is a pretty heavy sleeper, you didn’t want to disturb him. Finding that he passed out almost immediately, you decide to pause reading your book for now, and instead thread your fingers through his dark hair, running your nails gently along his scalp, a gesture that you know relaxes him and helps him fall asleep.
Just as you were going to change the channel, the power suddenly clicks off with a loud crash of thunder. The sound makes you jump slightly, but Seth remains unbothered, asleep. This man could sleep through anything, and you sometimes envied him for it.
The rain continues to come down, a steady stream of raindrops hitting the roof. Sighing, you pick your book back up and turn on the little battery-powered light that sticks out from the book. You hold the book open with one hand, your book page holder around your thumb assisting you in doing so, and your other hand stayed in Jarvy’s hair.
A couple hours later, the worst of the storm had passed, but it was still raining. As you were going to turn the page of your book, Seth shifts and groans, his body lifting from your lap. He sits up and yawns, rubbing his eyes from the sleep still in them.
“Hey sleepyhead,” you tease, bookmarking your page and setting it down on the coffee table. Seth looks around, confused, noticing the TV off and not a single light on.
“Is the power out?” He asks.
“Yeah. It’s been out for a couple hours,” you tell him. He yawns one more time before curling up into your side, grabbing your hand to hold it, entangling his fingers in yours. “Feeling better?”
“Mhm,” he mumbles, still trying to wake up from his little nap. “I should be good for the rest of the night.”
A chuckle leaves your lips at his comment, your hand returning to his hair.
“I’m not sure when the power is going to come back on, though. So we’ll just have to find a board game or card game or something.”
“Well,” he begins, moving from beside you to grab onto your hips and pull you onto his lap this time. His hands gently rub your hips underneath your shirt, his eyes filled with mischief. “I can think of something that doesn’t require electricity.”
“And what would that be, hm?” You push further, though you are fully aware of what he’s hinting at. Leaning forward, his lips attach to your neck, softly kissing the exposed skin after he moves your shirt slightly.
“I think you know, baby girl,” he whispers.

Pairings: ShieldAgent! Natasha x ShieldAgent!Fem! Reader
Summary: Part two of compromised. Y/N recovers quickly from her injuries but she finds out something about Natasha that could put their relationship at risk. What will happen?
Warnings: Mention of abuse, Injury mention.
Parts: 1 // 2 // 3
My eyes opened and slowly adjusted to the sudden light and the plain walls of the med-bay.
Not dead yet.
I groaned and sit up as someone burst into the room.
"Oh, thank god! I-We thought we lost you." Tony panted and embraced me in a hug. He had become like an older brother to me during my time here.
"Not to rain on your parade or anything but," he pulled away abruptly "Fury said you're off of missions indefinitely."
"What?!" I yelled, despite waking up for the first time in who-knows-how-long.
"He said that you're too reckless and you're always getting hurt so having you on the field is a liability." He revealed, scratching the back of his head.
"What the fuck?!" I growled, throwing my head back into the pillows.
"Hey, I'm only the messenger." He raised his hands in surrender. Just then, Bruce walked in with his clipboard and asked Tony to leave. I jolted up in the bed and swung my legs off of the side.
"I see the way you look at Romanoff." He mouthed to me. I flipped him off and he winked before strutting out of the door.
"Are you alright? No pain or discomfort?" Bruce asked. I shook my head no. I wanted nothing more than the comfort of my warm bed.
"Really?" He asked, unusually shocked.
"Yeah, why?" I chuckled, taking a sip of the water that was on the table next to me.
"You were out for 4 weeks."
"WHAT?!" I spat out the water that was in my mouth. Bruce passed me a napkin and I wiped myself down.
"And during that period I noticed something...off about you." He announced. I look at him confused and he continues.
"Your body seems to have double the amount of cells a normal human has...Maybe that explains why you don't feel your injuries." He started to ramble. Before I can say anything he interjected.
"Do you mind if I do some tests?"
"Uh...Sure." I muttered, unsure as to why he still wanted to test me after finding that out.
In about an hour or so, Bruce wrapped up all the tests he wanted to do on me and was taking them down to the lab, leaving me to drown in my loneliness.
"Hey Bruce, where's Nat?" I asked him before he left.
"Uhm..." He stuttered, surprised by the sudden topic of Natasha "She's on a mission."
"Oh, thank you."
He sent me a small smile and walked out of the room. I sighed and decided to ask JARVIS where exactly she was, seeing as she was injured she shouldn't be allowed to go on another mission.
"Hey JARVIS? Can you find Natasha for me?" I spoke into the air.
"Miss Romanoff seems to be on a stakeout mission with her boyfriend." The A.I replied.
"Would you like me to let her know that you're awake?"
"Uh, yeah. Sure." I murmured.
Boyfriend? How come I didn't know about her boyfriend? I guessed Tony didn't know either or he wouldn't of said, well mouthed, what he did earlier. There was a stabbing pain in my heart and I hated it. I was actually very much in pain from my injuries so this new pain in my heart made it ten times more unbearable.
"JARVIS, one more thing. Call Tony."
"On it Miss L/N."
"What's up pipsqueak?" I heard Tony's voice echo in the room that I was in. I heard things clanging in the background so I guessed he was in the workshop.
"Did you know about Natasha's boyfriend?" I whispered. It was quite embarrassing that I was asking.
"No, I just found out. Why? Are you jealous?" He pouted teasingly.
"I-No. Did she say anything about me? You know, when I was out?" I asked and tried to hide the smile that threatened to break onto my face.
"Aww is little Y/N is love?" He continued to tease.
"Tony." I deadpanned as a warning.
"Yeah, yeah fine. No actually. She hasn't spoken to anyone but her boyfriend and spent the last 3 and a half weeks locked in her room, a little like you really." He told me, occasionally grunting due to working on something.
"Oh..."
"Personally, I think you should just ask her out." He added and although I can't see his smug face, I can tell he was smirking.
"Riiight. Because you're suddenly the connoisseur of love." I rolled my eyes, sarcasm lacing my voice.
"So you are in love with her!"
"Tony! I am not!"
"You totally are! I can hear the giddiness in your voice!"
"Ugh fine! I am in love with her! Okay?" I gave in and announced. I was a little shocked I came out to him like that. I always pictured it over a fancy dinner or something.
"Wait...you are? I-I was kidding." Tony sounded, utterly confused. He was probably scratching the back of his head, something he did on the rare occasion that he got confused.
"Yes. I like her, a lot." I sighed and retreated to my pillows, stuffing my head in them.
"I don't know what advice to give to you, pipsqueak." He muttered under his breath.
"Don't say anything, I'm coming to you." I decided, pushing myself off of the bed and hobbling towards the door, clutching the stitches on my abdomen. How I got that wound? I have no clue.
"No! Wait! You can't get up-"
"JARVIS, hang up the call."
I sighed and limped my way down to the workshop. Pushing open the door, I said something before he did.
"I know, she's in a relationship and I should of told her before but I don't think she's gay, Tony."
"Ohhh she's gay alright." Tony chuckled.
"No, she told me- How are you so sure?" I asked and took a seat beside him while he was working on a suit.
"Trust me. I have good gaydar." He assured smugly.
"Tony. You have to be gay to have gaydar. You're a straight man in a straight- wait..." I began.
"..."
I looked up at him in shock.
"TONY! WHEN WERE YOU GOING TO TELL ME?!" I half-yelled, jumping up and down like a little kid.
"I wasn't because I'm with Pep." He mumbled shyly, which shocked me because this was very unlike him.
We talked about how we found out we were gay, well bi in his case, and people we thought were definitely closeted. He brought up Natasha and I immediately brushed that off and told him all the times I've flirted and she completely freaked out.
"Definitely closeted." He nodded.
"Tony." I looked at him disappointed. Why does he think that?
"I'm just saying!" He defended "Maybe she freaked out on you because she realised she has those feelings for you and she doesn't know how to deal with them."
I hummed to let him know that I was listening and he continued.
"It happens to the best of us. Maybe she thinks that the team won't accept her."
"So that explains why every time I flirted with her she went and slept with any random man in the same night." I huffed sarcastically and raised my eyebrows.
"Yeah, actually. She could be trying to block out the things she feels for you because she's scared what the others will think." He suggested, finishing up what he was working on.
"The big bad Black Widow? Afraid what other people think of her? Bullshit." I scoffed. I couldn't believe what Tony was trying to say.
"She may seem like a heartless bitch, but honestly she's a big softie." He laughed and I couldn't help the smile that broke onto my face.
"Aww you're smiling." Tony teased me for like the fifth time that day.
"Shut up." I pouted and hit his shoulder playfully.
A comfortable silence set between us. Well, silence apart from Tony's AC/DC music playing in the background while he worked. I sat in the chair swinging my legs until he handed me two bracelets, one that lets me bring up JARVIS' database to help me with cases, and another one that allowed me to equip my new suit with the press of the button on the bracelet.
"Woah, thanks Tony. I don't know what to say." I thanked him and gave him a hug.
"Thank me when you and Romanoff are together." He winked at me and went back to working on something. That man was always working.
"I'll see you later Tony." I smiled and hobbled my way out of the workshop and back to where I was supposed to be, the med-bay. I turned the corner and continued on my way.
"Babe. I told you I'm fine. I dealt with them, didn't I."
My head shot up when I heard her voice. She was battered and bruised and obviously hurting but she was being as stubborn as always. My eyes then travelled to the man who stood next to her.
And I froze.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Natasha was with him of all people.
All the memories came flooding back, what he'd do to me if he didn't like what I said.
I never would have thought that I would end up dating him. It began with passion and excitement, just like any other romantic relationship. The relationship, however, developed down a dark and sinister path that I could not have anticipated.
At first, he was kind and considerate, admiring and flattering me. But he quickly began to show his true colours. He became obsessive and domineering, insisting on knowing every detail of my existence. He shut me off from my friends and family, making me feel like he was the only person I had left. He slowly destroyed my confidence by criticising my accomplishments and making me doubt my worth.
The emotional abuse was relentless. He manipulated my emotions, making me feel guilty for his own shortcomings and failures. His words cut like knives, leaving me feeling small and powerless. I became trapped in a cycle of fear, always walking on eggshells, afraid of setting him off.
As the relationship progressed, the abuse escalated to physical violence. His anger would explode without warning, and I would bear the brunt of his rage. The bruises and scars I carried became a painful reminder of the pain he inflicted upon me. I lived in constant fear, never knowing when the next outburst would occur.
Leaving him was one of the most difficult decisions I've ever made. The process of breaking free from his control was filled with obstacles and challenges. Even after we ended the relationship, he continued to harass and stalk me, invading my privacy and making me feel unsafe.
Rebuilding my life after such a traumatic experience has been a long and arduous journey. I've sought therapy and support to heal the emotional wounds and regain my sense of self-worth. It has taken time to learn to trust again, to believe that I deserve love and respect.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Natasha was dating...
My psycho, abusive ex.

Chapter 5
Falling
Her life had been predetermined by her father the moment she had been born.
For as long as she could remember, Wanda had always been told what to do, how to act, what was expected of her. Even though her mother helped her get an education, as well as get into a career, her father had always made sure Wanda was straight as an arrow, always leading her to a ‘good man that could control and protect her’.
She found herself being introduced to Jarvis at some point, the son of one of her father’s business partners, and a classmate of hers all through the secondary, it had been decided that he would be her husband. Wanda sighed watching the picture she kept on her photo album, in there was Pietro always smiling and happy with his arm around her shoulders while Jarvis stood to her left with a possessive hold on her waist.
Pietro had never liked Jarvis, but it wasn’t his decision.
Thunder broke into the night, Wanda jumped startled watching outside the window while her eyes drifted momentarily to the stairs. She strained her ear trying to hear if the twins had woken up, but the silence of the house was only broken by the rain and the wind right outside. Wanda sat in silence and a half-lit room, the memories of her past coming over with overwhelming emotions that threatened to break her over once more.
She held onto her own strength, the smile of her children and the words of Hope and Natasha while the tears rolled down her cheeks.
“This is a long road, Wanda. You are not expected to heal overnight, but you do need to start somewhere.”
And that was precisely what she was doing, choosing the memories she wanted to keep and letting go of those she didn’t want to remember. The pictures in her photo album had change drastically the moment Jarvis showed up in her life. Soon the pictures of Pietro, her mother, and her friends disappeared, giving way to pictures of Jarvis filling up her youth invading her life in ways she never noticed until now.
She didn’t even have enough pictures of her and the twins, most of the pictures included Jarvis one way or another holding them, grabbing them, possessing them. Wanda closed the photo album feeling suddenly emotionally tired, her life had changed drastically ever since she ran from Jarvis and started working on her, her children, her career.
“One step at a time, Wanda. You just must give yourself some credit, you are doing fantastic and as long as you remember why you are doing this you will be okay.”
And Wanda knew why she was doing it.
She still had the scars, and the police report as well as the medical records of herself and Tommy. The bright, blueish light of lightning breaking into the night startled her again, this time around she redirected her eyes to the window and waited for the sound of thunder breaking into the night.
The lights in the house flickered and soon the hole house went black. Wanda stood up, her eyes going big as she heard the sudden cries coming from the twin’s room. In less than a minute she had run up the stairs entering their room, the light from the mobile helping her move through the house and the darkened room.
She was familiar with the scene welcoming her the moment she crossed the threshold of the twin’s room. Billy was holding onto Tommy, both boys had their eyes wide open though Tommy was looking drowsy and flustered while Billy was completely awake and disheveled holding onto his brother as he used to whenever they heard the screams of fighting and hitting in their parents’ room.
“Hey, guys, it’s okay, mommy is here.” Wanda approached the bed wrapping her arms around them, kissing their foreheads with a concerned frown. “It’s just rain, it will pass.”
Billy merely nodded but Tommy went from his brother to his mother, and it was then that Wanda noticed the shivering figure of Tommy, his labored breathing and the glassy eyes. Billy shot his brother a worried glance before turning his attention to his mother.
“Momma, I don’t feel good.” Tommy whispered snuggling closer to Wanda, the young woman placed her hand on the boy’s forehead feeling the warm emanating from his skin.
Panic rose inside Wanda’s mind, Tommy was burning and he wasn’t looking so good. She lifted her eyes and Billy was glancing at her with a frown adorning his face.
“Mommy?”
“Don’t worry, boys, mommy is here, okay?” Wanda cooed Tommy while trying to give Billy a reassuring smile.
Tommy closed his eyes whimpering lightly, while Billy chewed on his lower lip.
“Is Tommy okay?” He asked in a small voice, Wanda fixed the younger of the twins on the bed while helping Billy down and directing him to his own bed.
“He is baby, but he needs some space and medicine, right now he seems to have a fever and mommy needs to make sure he is okay.” Wanda explained pocking Billy on the nose, the young boy offered a weak smile, but his eyes went from Wanda and Tommy constantly.
“I’m going to grab something really quick from the bathroom, can you watch over him without going to close to Tommy?” Wanda inquired knowing the request was hard for the young boy, they had always been together through the fighting, through the punishment and even in sickness.
But Wanda didn’t have the luxury of having any help, and risking both twins to get sick was something she couldn’t afford emotionally and physically. Wanda brushed Billy’s hair placing a single kiss on his forehead. Billy scrunched up his nose, pursing his lips at the last request.
“Tommy needs me.” He mumbled crossing his arms.
“I know it’s hard, Billy, but mommy doesn’t want you catching whatever it is Tommy has.” She tried to explain to the upset kid. “Mommy needs you to be strong and help her out, can you do that for me?”
Billy pouted looking away while nodding his head curtly, Wanda hesitated for a moment before standing up, her eyes went to Tommy then back to Billy who was still looking away from her. With a heavy heart, the young woman made her way to the bathroom to look for something that might help Tommy.
In the darkened bathroom, Wanda soon realized she had never bother to buy any medicine or any kind of implements that might help in a situation such as this. She had gauze, alcohol, bandages, cotton balls, and a digital thermometer. She tried to look at her reflection, the tears she didn’t know she was shedding rolling down her cheeks while her heart beat hard against her ribcage. None of this, but the thermometer, would help her with Tommy, would her?
With trembling hands, Wanda grabbed the thermometer and some cotton balls, she let her hands wander inside the cabinet until she found a small cup. Making sure the water was not too cold, she wiped away her tears and putting on a strong façade grabbed everything and went back to the twin’s room.
The storm ranging right outside the house became almost unbearable, thunder and lightning filled out the emptiness inside her home and by the time she was helping Tommy out, Billy was holding onto his pillow watching wide-eyed as Tommy whimpered and complain while putting his blankets away.
The lights had not come out yet, and Wanda had a feeling that this might take some time because of the storm. She went right into action making sure Tommy had the thermometer while putting the cotton balls and the cup of water on the bedside table.
Billy watched from afar as Wanda fussed over Tommy while his brother cried softly, and tried to get away from her touch while still couching and sneezing, his hands grabbing his chest or head from time to time. The young boy had always been there ready to protect his brother, and he hated it when he knew there was nothing he could do.
His young eyes went from his brother to his mom, she was crying and Billy felt his eyes well up at the sight. For a brief moment, he turned his attention to the door almost expecting his dad to come over screaming enraged before hitting mommy and Tommy.
But it never happened, and relief washed over the young man that still felt anguish at the sight of his family suffering over without anything he could do. Billy glanced at the phone, then back at his mom and Tommy, he lifted his hand and wiped away his tears with his pajamas. The phone he had been holding for quite a while vibrated in his hand, Billy frowned glancing at the phone while tilting his head.
“Mommy.” He mumbled standing up, he made his way to Wanda holding onto the phone.
Wanda lifted her head, she tried to smile and Billy could see she was not doing okay.
“Tell me, sweetie.”
“Can you call a doctor?” Billy offered the phone to his mother, he could no longer hide the tears on his face and Wanda broke just a little at how mature he usually behaved at his age.
Wanda grabbed the phone putting him closer to her, her arms wrapped comfortingly around him before placing a kiss on his head. She thought about the proposal, it wasn’t as if she hadn’t thought about it, but the rain outside and the lower temperatures could only be worse for the boy burning in fever at the moment. There was a moment of hesitation on Wanda’s part, she glanced at Tommy then at Billy before placing her eyes on the phone.
But before she could do anything, Tommy sat up moaning, grabbing his stomach.
“Mommy I don’t feel good…” And with those words, he leaned in and started throwing up.
Billy stepped back watching horrified as Tommy empty the contents of his stomach on the bed and the floor, and soon Wanda sprang into action taking the young boy to the bathroom, running and sharing comforting words to a now crying Tommy.
The mobile had fallen to the floor, and Billy grabbed the gadget in his hands hugging it closer to his chest not knowing what to do and how to help his mom and brother. It took him a moment, tears falling down his face, and he just checked the phone finding the only familiar name that could help him and his mommy in a moment like that one.
With a blurry eyesight, he pressed the dial button and finally started sobbing when he heard the familiar voice through the phone.
____________________________________________________________
There was not a single light on the streets.
The wind and water twirled in front of the windows, the bluish light of thunder breaking into the darkness from time to time, and the rumbling from thunder making the glass trembled echoing the strength of the storm.
You sipped some hot chocolate from your favorite mug, sitting down in the kitchen your mind played out the recent events that had shaken your life in ways you never thought possible. More than a week had passed since the school event in which you got a chance to see a side of your neighborhood you were not familiar with and finding her in the practice of your best friend.
Since then, your encounters with her have been sporadic. But each and every single one of them had the spark of teasing you had come accustomed to. It had become a habit to just bother her and rail her up, to watch her reaction to your piercing words and your constant teasing while getting some reaction out of her. To see her eyes going wide, and flashing that glare you had come to appreciate, or her retorts that were a defiance of your intelligence and your personality. A part of you knew the game you were playing was a dangerous one, another part didn’t even care.
That was, until your mind reminded you of one Carol Danvers that had been at your doorstep from the moment you decided to go back to the world.
The blonde woman had been there as a support, and also as someone that helped you escaped from the pain and the reality you were made to face. So much different than Shuri, Carol had always understood your priorities, and while at the beginning the both of you had agreed on sex with no strings attached, Carol had made it quite evident she was ready for more, and pretty much intended to wait for you to be ready as well.
Another thunder broke into the night.
You lifted your eyes wondering if perhaps letting Carol meet America had been the wisest thing to do, the both of them had hit it off right off the bat, and you knew that Carol had been more than happy about the meeting. She saw that as a step in the right direction, one of the steps to get you closer into a relationship you were still not so sure you wanted.
“What are you doing up at this hour?” The voice of America startled you awake from your daze, turning around you saw her completely dressed wearing a heavy jacket and boots as if she was ready to go out.
“What are you doing dressed like that?” You asked back raising a single eyebrow, the young woman came closer to you tilting her head with narrowed eyes.
“I’m going out.”
You snorted shaking your head, “you’re crazy if you think I’m letting you go out with this weather. Anyway, why the hell would you go out? This has something to do with Kate?”
America opened her eyes wide, blushing lightly while crossing her arms.
“Not everything that happens to me has to do with Kate.” She huffed indignantly, though you had to smirk at her reaction.
“As of late, everything has to do with her…” You replied teasingly. “You two should stop playing around and get together already.”
“Oh, shut up! You are one to talk, you and Carol had been playing the friends with benefits for far too long, you should give in already.” She retorted shooting you a defiant glance, you winced looking away while lifting your mug.
“Touché. I won’t say anything about Kate and you from now on.”
“Thank you.” America turned around but stopped when you placed a hand on her shoulder, your brows lifted in wonderment.
“Still, you’re not going out, though.”
America made a face lifting her phone while trying to come up with the best explanation.
“Look, Billy Maximoff just called me.” She started explaining, and as soon as that name came out you perked up. “He was really distressed, crying and asking for me to help him, something happened to Tommy and…”
“Well, where is his mom? Or his dad for that matter?”
It wasn’t so much the question, but the tone of voice you used to ask. Your voice broke a little, and your tone rose an octave making you clear your throat and look away from the scrutinizing gaze of your sister. America narrowed her eyes at you, tilting her head.
“There is no dad, and it seems as if Mrs. Maximoff needs help.” America trailed off before grabbing your hand. “Come with me, please, I think they really need help and I hated to think Billy is crying while Tommy and Mrs. Maximoff are…I don’t know…”
You made a face letting go of America while scratching the nape of your neck, your heart jumped in your chest while a tingling started in your abdomen at the thought of seeing Wanda Maximoff. It was strange, and unwanted, you shouldn’t feel anxious to see that insufferable woman, yet…
“What if Tommy is sick, Y/N? I know you can help them.” America pressed grabbing your hand. “Please, come with me and if it is something dumb, you can lash out at Mrs. Maximoff, I know it had become your favorite pastime as of late.”
“That’s not true!” You replied slightly offended. “She is the one lashing out at me!”
“Oh, please if I didn’t know better, I would say you like her!” America replied turning just on time to miss the flash of panic in your eyes.
“So, can you come with me?” This time around she used her most powerful weapon against you, and her puppy eyes with that familiar pout broke your resolution.
Rolling your eyes you nod, “okay, okay, I’m coming with you, let me grab something, I don’t want to catch a pneumonia just so you can go and help Maximoff’s brats.”
America smirked watching as you went running to your room, she knew even if your words seemed uncaring that you were hooked when she said the kids might be sick. America knew for you it was hard to not care, but sometimes it was harder to care.
*************
Your eyes soon found those of the small boy standing by the door with a blue blanket tightly pressed against his chest, he had tears in his eyes with his hair completely disheveled and a spark of mistrusted sent your way. America knelt down as soon as he opened the door, her face breaking into one of pure tenderness while she spoke to the boy in a soft reassuring tone.
“Hey, Billy, how are you buddy?”
“Tommy is sick.” He mumbled and was about to hug your sister when you stopped him from going any further.
His glare made you think of his mother, and you had to refrain yourself from snorting at the likeness between both of them.
“We are drench, kid, so hugging America is not a good idea.” The glare didn’t lose its intensity, but the boy pursed his lips and stepped away from your grasp.
America rolled her eyes at you, closing the door behind her and taking the jacket off of her. You followed her swiftly, while also taking off your boots and standing inside the house that had been Natasha’s at some point.
The place had changed ever since, though you could see the new inhabitants of the household decided to keep some of the furniture. You frowned stepping inside the place noticing there was no one but the kid on the first floor, turning around you could see America talking to the boy, this time around she wrapped her arms around him helping him up and walking towards you with Billy snuggling closer to her.
“Tommy is sick, and he and his mom are upstairs.” She commented, her lips broke into a sad smile. “He didn’t know what to do, but he thought if I was here his mom could take Tommy to the doctor.”
“You are quite the smart guy, Billy.” Your commented made Billy turned his attention to you, though his eyes had not softened he was now shooting curious glances at you. “However, with this rain, the best would be for Tommy and your mom to stay here…”
This time around you could see the crestfallen expression on the boy’s face, his eyes welled up again and your heart broke at the sight. You leaned in, winking at him reassuringly.
“But you and your family are lucky that I know a thing or two about being a doctor and may be able to help, would you like that?”
America watched as the boy tensed in her arms, his eyes opened lightly, and he glanced at you for the very first time with wonderment, and some hesitation.
“Really?” he turned to America to corroborate your words, and the young woman smiled at him.
“Yes, Billy, this is my sister Y/N.” She said, looking at you then back at the boy. “And she learnt a thing or two about children and how to take care of them.”
Billy pursed his lips glancing at you with a tilt of his head, “really? You help Tommy?”
“Really, I can help Tommy and your mommy as well.” You looked around the place before settling your eyes on America. “Why don’t you grabbed one of the torches you brough and I will go upstairs to see what’s going on.”
“Sure.” America turned to Billy pocking him on the nose. “Want some chocolate while we make sure Tommy gets better?”
You watched as both of them go to America’s jacket, and handing over the torch to Billy they made their way to the kitchen. With a sigh, you placed a hand on your head before turning your stare to the stairs; the place was completely silent, and you had to glance around while straining your ear to catch some noise. Without missing a beat, you walked down the hall until you found yourself in front of a door decorated with dinosaurs and the names of the twins in blue and red.
The room smelt like vomit, and it felt suffocating.
On the bed was a small boy whimpering, and leaning in was the young woman you had come to know as Wanda. There was a moment of hesitation before you knock on the open door, the sudden sound made Wanda jerked around her eyes wide open as they settled on you.
“Wha-what are you…who…?”
The young woman was looking terrible.
Her hair was out of place, and she had been wearing some sweatpants and a shirt that had strains of vomit all over them. The sight itself was quite incredible, you had seen the fire behind those green eyes, the power behind the woman’s words as well as her determination whenever you engaged her in a bickering contest. But the woman standing before you was lost, it was someone that didn’t know what to do or how to react, that was completely out of her element while holding onto a piece of sanity she clearly didn’t have.
It made you think of that time she had frozen in fear during the school’s event.
“You got any coherent thought behind those questions? Or do I have to guess what are you trying to ask?” Your lips curled into a smirk, the glint of anger flashing towards you as the woman strides to you her index finger lift poking on your chest, with her nostrils flaring.
“What the hell are you doing here?” There was desperation in her voice, and you had to wonder where the father of the kids was, where was her husband.
Was she alone in all of this?
“Your kid called, and America dragged me over to help.”
She blinked a couple of times, your words registering in her head while her brows knitted together. Her eyes locking with yours before she opened them in realization.
“Billy.”
“Yes.”
“America? Why…?” Now she looked even more confused than before, you shrugged suddenly very aware of the closeness of the woman and the foolishness of the situation.
“She is my sister, and your kid call her over to see if she could help you.” You shrugged trying to look uninterested in the whole situation. “You had a smart kid, Princess. Now, let me help you with your other kid.”
You stepped aside, and walked past Wanda who was struck by the door still registering your words. You looked around the place before kneeling down right beside the bed of Tommy. You placed your hand on his forehead, he was burning and your touch made him shiver telling you his skin was sensitive to the touch. It was quite evident he had thrown up, and his paleness confused itself with the flush of the fever. Your eyes moved to the thermometer then to the mess around you.
“What are you doing?” Wanda asked in a thin voice, your eyes were flashing angrily at her just as you stood up.
“Me? What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” You asked through gritted teeth. “He is burning up! What had you given to him? Do you know if he eaten something that upset his stomach? How long has he been like this?”
And just as you said this you stepped closer to her, the anger in you came by the sight of the state the room was in and by the obvious discomfort the boy was in. It was incredible to you that a mother could be this disinterested in their child. If your stepmother had been alive her first instinct would have been to take you or America straight to the hospital, bad weather or not, and your dad…
The anger running through your veins cooled down the moment your eyes fell upon the cowering form of Wanda. The young woman winced when you spoke to her, her body tensing and coiling in on itself, while she pressed her hands tightly to her chest. Her eyes clenched close, paled with a quivering lower lip, she was mumbling something you had not bothered to hear up until now.
“I just…I didn’t…I don’t have because I…” Wanda had been ready to answer your reproaches with the same annoying tone she used to address you until something in her triggered the memories she thought she had overcome. She was useless, a bad mother, she deserved punishment. She deserved her fate.
“I don’t know! I’m sorry, I…I failed, I failed, I’m a bad mother…”
You never expected her to break down the way she was doing, something in your chest stirred with sympathy and guiltiness at having been so hasty in your reaction. There was a moment of hesitation that was broken the moment the woman felt to her knees, this time around her arms above her head as if protecting herself from an invisible attack. You clenched your jaw, your eyes burning with horror at the thought that this was perhaps what Wanda was waiting from you.
You could hear her whimpers, turning around you could see Tommy crawling his legs closer to his body, he had been awake during the scene trembling on his bed with his lips turned downwards. You brushed your hair away before stepping closer to Wanda, kneeling down slowly but surely, your hand placed itself on her shoulder. Whatever story was behind her reaction, you decided right there and there, you would make things easier for her.
“Hey, Wanda, I’m sorry.” You whispered softly, comfortingly. “It was not my place, you are a good mother, you did the right thing, I just…I want to help…”
“Hey, Wanda, sorry I just…look, I came here to help. So…”
“Why? So you can humiliate me? Tell me…making me feel as If…” Wanda exploded pushing your hands away, her eyes filled with tears just as she glared at you. “I’m doing my best I just…”
“I know, I’m sorry.” You whispered, wincing at her words. “I was unfair, I…I just…I don’t like seeing little kids suffering, okay? And, Tommy, he really needs a doctor. Let me make it up to you, let me help you.”
“What? You are a doctor or something like that?” Wanda bit back, her glare never missing the intensity.
“Something like that.” You replied offering a half smile, Wanda furrowed her brows the situation draining her of any will or energy to fight over. “Let’s start by getting him really clean up, do you have anything we can give him?”
“What do you mean?” She asked in a small voice.
“Antibiotics, aspirin…something?” Wanda shook her head and you nodded curtly.
“Okay, that’s fine. You and him, you need a shower…”
“But…but he is sick, and his fever…”
“Needs to be controlled before it gets out of hand.” You replied helping the young woman stand up, you cocked your head, so your eyes fell upon the boy that was glancing at the both of you. “Let’s take him to the bathroom, I have some torches that may help you, but you need to give him a bath and help with his fever.”
Wanda nodded weakly making her way to the bed, Tommy was shivering with his lips parted. You leaned in, observing the rhythm of his breathing and the sweat on his face.
“Mommy?” He asked in a weak voice, Wanda cleared his face never missing the concern marks on her face.
“Is he…” Wanda started but soon trailed off.
“He is gonna be okay.” You smiled at her, standing up you placed a hand on her forearm. “Don’t worry, kid, everything is gonna be fine, can you tell me where it hurts the most?”
Tommy pouted hesitating before placing his hand on his head, you pursed your lips nodding. Wanda observed as you knelt down with your eyes scanning the small form of the boy.
“Does your tummy hurt still?”
“No.” Tommy put his legs closer to his chest, your eyes narrowed for a moment.
“Tommy, did you feel bad today at school?”
Tommy hesitated before nodding, “I didn’t want Billy worried because he was playing with Bard, and I’m always complaining.”
The boy explained in a thin voice, Wanda pressed her lips holding back her own tears. You offered the boy a smirk, shaking your head.
“I bet Bard was being a little brat about it, wasn’t he?”
Tommy opened his eyes before nodding, this time around he smiled.
“Yeah, the men in that family can be little brats.” You said winking at Tommy. “But they are good people, you don’t have to hide, Tommy, more so if you don’t feel okay.”
“I’m s’orry.” He lowered his gaze, “I don’t wanna be weak, daddy don’t like it when I complain.”
You decided to not comment on that, and you even ignored the sudden shift on Wanda’s posture, and the gasp she let out at Tommy’s words.
“Hey! Not feeling well is not about complaining, it’s about being brave enough to admit you need help.” You replied by pocking his nose. “Now, I need to help you and your mom with your fever, okay?”
Tommy nodded putting a thumb on his mouth, you stood up looking around the room before settling your eyes on Wanda. In a sudden movement, you went to pick up Tommy in your arms, the little boy snuggling closer to you.
“He does need to take a bath, and it’s going to be a little uncomfortable for him because the water must be lukewarm.” You stated firmly, Wanda shifted her position taking a good look at you. “Can you show me the bathroom?”
The bathroom was huge.
With a big bathtub at the far corner, you realized that with more light the situation would be easier for everyone. However, the place was big enough to make it work for the mother and the child, you placed Tommy on a small chair near the toilet.
“Okay young man, I need your help right now, think you can do it?”
Tommy opened his eyes wide, nodding while glancing at you then back at Wanda.
“Okay, I’m gonna bring some flashlights and you and your mom are going to take a bath.” You explained to him standing up while turning on the light on your mobile. Wanda had been silent up until then, she had been following your every move, hearing every single word you spoke to her and Tommy, and something inside her stirred grateful by your actions.
You glanced around the place helped with your mobile trying to locate the cabinet in which you might be able to locate some medication. Your eyes narrowed when the only thing you spot were gauzes, bandages, alcohol, and things that might help someone after a fall. Not in a situation like the one they were in at the moment. You turned to Wanda, but the young woman was making her best effort to look away from you.
“I’m going to get the bathtub ready, and you and Tommy can take a bath, so the both of you stop stinking.” You made a face winking at Tommy who giggled placing a hand on his mouth.
“I’m not…” Wanda started but soon trailed off when she heard Tommy’s giggle.
“You are.” You replied walking past her towards the tub. “And Tommy is too, right?”
Tommy hesitated before nodding, “I stink. I felt bad in my tummy and throw up.”
You made a face making sure the war was the right temperature, “that and you have a fever, Tommy. I will need some basic medication for you, but the water will help with the temperature, okay?”
“But, with his fever…” Wanda started, you stood up shaking your head.
“It will make him feel better, believe me.” You offered a kind smile and Tommy was already feeling ready to take the bath. “Let me go for the torches, and then I will bring some medication I have at home that may help with his symptoms.”
Wanda stood there nodding numbly, you hesitated for a moment before grabbing her hand, the tender touch jerked her awake and her eyes found yours in the dark.
“It’s gonna be okay, Wanda, trust me.” You whispered, and the young woman felt her stomach tingle at the closeness, her heart shivering at your words.
“I do.”
You nodded curtly running down the stairs and grabbing two torches from your jacket and that of America, your sister watched you with curiosity, but you paid her no mind and went back to the second floor. Fixing the flashlights on two strategic points in the bathroom, it took but a moment, but soon your eyes found the naked back of the boy and your whole body tensed, while your jaw clenched closed again, this time around the anger bubbling in your chest was like a time bomb ready to explode.
On his back, there were multiple scars, some of them looked fresh, some others were old enough to know he had been hurt several times in the past. Then, as soon as you saw this, your eyes drifted away to the young woman whose hands were tenderly taking the clothes off and helping Tommy into the bathtub. The way she moved, the way she worried about her children…
“It’s cold, mommy.” Tommy whimpered fighting a little, Wanda cooed the little boy trying to calm him down.
“I know baby, but really is not that cold, is just…it feels like that because you’re not feeling well.”
“I’m going to leave this here and you two can take as long as you want.” You commented furrowing your brows, your mind already working on trying to get the truth about Wanda from Natasha. “I will leave my phone here, if you want to put on Disney or Netflix for him.”
Wanda turned to you, her face breaking into one relief and grateful expression.
“Thank you.”
“No need to thank me, Princess.” You winked at her, placing a hand on your eyes. “Tommy you are in charge of the phone and the movie, make sure your mom doesn’t put a boring movie.”
“Yeah.”
Wanda chuckled leaving Tommy for a moment to grab your mobile, her eyes soon found yours and her cheeks burn a little at the sudden warmness she felt near you. She grabbed the phone and you and her turned around at the same time, you closed the door behind you, confusion filling up your mind.
****************
“How is Tommy?” America asked as soon as you entered the kitchen, you glanced around the place before spotting the door leading to the basement, in your arms you were carrying the bed sheets and the pyjama.
“He is burning in fever, Wanda is bathing him, and probably will take a shower afterwards.” You turned to America pointing to the basement door. “I need wash this, but right now that room is a mess, can you help me cleaning it up and putting some fresh sheets on the bed?”
“Can I help?” Billy asked in a small voice rubbing his eyes, you offered him a small smile nodding.
“That would be fantastic, Billy, Tommy needs clean sheets to feel better, and your room smells yucky so let’s make sure he comes back to a clean room, okay?”
Billy perked up at this, he nodded eagerly smiling a little, “yeah, I help, come America.”
He grabbed your sister’s hand dragging her back to the stairs, you shook your head opening the basement door going downstairs to put everything in the washing machine.
By the time dawn came, the rain had stopped and Billy, Tommy and America were fast asleep in the twins room.
The lights had not come out yet, and you had a feeling it would take some time for the electricity to be restored again. The living room was early quiet, and Wanda was sitting on the sofa with a warm mug of hot chocolate in her hands. She had bags under her eyes, her hair was still wet but her clothes had changed into another part of sweatpants and an old college t-shirt.
Tommy’s fever had receded, and he was no longer suffering from headaches or tummy pain, he had even drunk some tea and eaten some crackers before falling asleep on his bed. Billy had been right on his bed with America playing some movies on your phone.
Wanda had been fussing around the three of them, she was busing herself stopping any intrusive thoughts that were threatening to invade her mind. She was confused enough, tired enough, scared enough to allow another set of concerns filled her life at the moment.
You sat down on the sofa, the young woman tensed but her eyes never drifted from the photo album still open at the coffee table. You glanced at the pictures, having taken a pick early into the night before settling your eyes on Wanda.
“What a night, eh?” Your voice broke the silence in the room, it didn’t carry the usual bite and teasing tone you had come to use with Wanda, instead it was filled with tiredness and curiosity.
“Yeah, I never stopped enough to thank you for the help.” She finally said tilting her head to glance at you. “I never thought your sister…well, that you and America…”
“Oh, yeah, I know.” You chuckled wriggling your eyebrows. “I bet it was quite the shock for you to discover we were sisters, eh?”
Wanda allowed herself a tiny smile, “what surprised me is that she is such a charming young woman, responsible, and quite smart. And you don’t seem to fit in that description.”
You laughed throwing your head back, while allowing the comment wash over you. Wanda observed your reaction with some surprised, but her lips curled into a please smile, soon she was also laughing shaking her head at the absurdity of her situation. Here she was, sitting on her living room with a woman she though annoying and a bitch, only to find a comfort she never thought possible.
“Nah, she is good sister, I’m the bad one.” You finally replied never losing your smile, Wanda pressed her lips together looking away for a moment.
“I don’t think you are the bad one.” You raised an eyebrow, your eyes shinning with wonderment. “You are a bitch, but you’re not bad.”
“Fair enough, Princess.” Once more Wanda rolled her eyes at the nickname, at some point she had thought it annoying and quite invasive, a way for you to railed her up. But now all she could think of was how much she liked the sound of it coming from you.
The silence that followed was filled with questions unasked, Wanda was not the woman you thought she was. She was alone in the city, raising two boys all by herself while working to educate the newest generation in a school that could provide her with great opportunities. Natasha had advocated for her, she had even given her the house in which she and Yelena had grown, offering her a spot in a school that didn’t take just anyone in.
What was her story?
What was hidden behind those emerald eyes that sometimes reflect sadness and loneliness?
You stirred awake turning around while knitting your brows together, you could not ask these questions. You shouldn’t be wondering anything about the woman sitting in front of you. Your heart should not beat so fast, and your abdomen shouldn’t host fluttering butterflies creating a void you were familiar with.
Bouncing your feet on the ground, you stood up walking around the living room. Wanda followed you with her eyes, her own mind playing games with her and what had happened that night. She kept telling her that she was grateful for your intervention, that whatever she was experimenting at the moment was the result of America and you coming in to help her in a situation she felt was slipping from her grasp. It had been so long since Wanda forged any kind of friendship that was not determined by Jarvis or her father, she was finally free to be herself and reached out to people by allowing herself to make new bounds.
That was the reason why Wanda felt confused by you at the moment, it wasn’t because you made her heart skip  beat, or because you made her feel vulnerable. It wasn’t either because she felt her cheeks burn with embarrassment and coyness, or because her stomach had come to tingle whenever the both of you engaged in a bickering contest.
It was because she was learning how to make new friends.
That was all.
Wanda drown the voice inside her head, that traitorous voice that told her Y/N was the only one making her feel that way. Her other friends, the new ones, had never shake her world the way you had done so from day one.
“You should probably get some sleep.” Your voice broke Wanda’s trail of thoughts, she jerked around blushing profusely when she realized you were standing right beside her.
“I’m sorry, what?” She asked, and you snorted tilting your head.
“You should probably go to sleep, Princess.” You glanced at the watch on your wrist. “It’s three in the morning, I could keep watch for you, and I can wake you up as soon as the doctor is here.”
Wanda furrowed her brows at you, “doctor?”
“Well, I figured we need an expert to watch over Tommy, so I asked in a favour.” You replied shrugging, “hope you don’t mind.”
Once more, Wanda felt warmth all over, her heart melting at the gesture.
“No, I…thank you.” She took the last sip from her chocolate before yawning, her eyes drifted to the stairs then towards you. “If you don’t mind…I prefer to stay here…can we talk or something?”
You hesitated for a moment; it was quite evident Wanda was tired but she was stubborn enough to keep herself going if necessary. With a sigh, you nodded curtly sitting down on your previous spot of on the sofa.
“So, what do you wanna talk about?” You finally asked after the silence became too much, Wanda shrugged with her eyes falling upon the pictures.
It was still too soon, and you…The young woman turned towards you, she didn’t want to scare you off with her torrid story. She didn’t want you to know about her past, not yet, not like this; so straightened herself up she asked the safest question she could think off.
“Tell me how come you end up with such an amazing sister as America?”
_____________________________________________________________
The constant buzzing of conversation sneaked into her senses; she knew she had to wake up. An internal alarm was telling her she was needed, but her body and the recent activities had left her drained of energy necessary to open up her eyes.
Besides, she was warmth, and comfortable in the place she was in.
For brief moment she gave herself to the feeling, and her mind was slowly but surely losing the battle with her wakeful state until her ears caught the sound of a familiar voice.
“Thank you for coming, Strange, I know that this is not your specialty but…” You stated offering a tired smile to the man standing before you.
“Nonsense, I will be more than happy to help you out and that’s why I brought my wife.” Strange stepped aside and soon Christine came in rolling her eyes, on her hand the small duffel bag she used to carry with her everywhere.
“Hey, Y/N.” You dropped your shoulders walking towards her and wrapping your arms around her.
“Christine.” The older woman shot Strange a quick glance before wrapping her arms around you returning the hug.
“Miss me much?” She asked teasingly, you nodded looking away sheepishly.
“Like you wouldn’t imagine.”
“That’s why you haven’t called as of late?” The question came like a reproach but without any bite. You winced placing a nervous hand on the back of your head.
“I’ve been busy.”
“So I was told.” Christine waved her hand closing the door behind her, her eyes drifted around the place with curiosity before settling on you. “Where is the patient?”
“He is upstairs with America and his brother…”
“I am guessing you are the mother.” Doctor Stephen Strange stepped closer to the redhead now sitting on the sofa, her cheeks wearing pillow marks and her hair completely dishevelled.
“I…I am…Hi, sorry I just…” Wanda stood up feeling a little foolish and out of place, Stephen smiled kindly at her stretching his hand.
“No, please, we heard it was a rough night.”
“Yeah, it…it was I just…” Wanda stuttered kicking herself for being such an idiot, she dropped her shoulders wincing lightly. “I guess I need coffee, can I offer you something to drink?”
Christine chuckled waving her hand, “don’t worry, dear, I think coffee sounds perfect…”
“Good then, you and Wanda can go upstairs and Stephen and I will make the coffee and something to eat for everyone, would you like that?” You turned to Wanda who was still far too sleepy, and far too lost to said anything at all, you had taken charge of everything so it seemed and a part of Wanda was thankful for that.
“Yes, that…that sounds good…”
“Okay then, if you lead the way.” Christine took on a professional stance, her tone of voice and ever her glance changed, and as soon as they started making their way upstairs she started asking questions about the twins to Wanda.
“She was happy you called.” Strange stated, sitting down on a chair in the kitchen, you hummed moving around the unknown kitchen trying to locate the coffee maker, and some instant coffee.
“I was happy you guys could make it.” You replied never once looking back at your dad’s best friend.
“So, is she your new girl?”
You almost drop the mug in your hand, your eyes opening wide at the sudden declaration and Stephen merely smirked at your reaction.
“NO!” He winced, and she rolled your eyes trying to get a hold of your voice. “No, no we are neighbours, America babysits for her from time to time.”
“America has a job?” Stephen scrunched up his nose, you chuckled shrugging.
“Yeah, she took it after declaring she felt bored out of her mind and this would teach her some responsibility.” You pursed your lips. “She is right, you know? And, well…Wanda seems to need all the help she can get.”
“I see.” Stephen stood up walking towards the fridge and putting some bacon and milk, going around the place to help you out. “And you…and her…”
“Neighbours.” She stated curtly.
“Right, because you are dating Danvers, right?”
Now he was sounding like a confused parent that was no longer up to date with his child’s demeanours. You sighed rolling your eyes, knowing the questions came for the genuine interested of the man, and not because he wanted to be noisy or intrusive. He was like an uncle to you, and after your parents had died all those who had been part of your parents circle had taken it upon themselves to watch over you and America.
“I’m fucking Carol, there is a difference.” You replied slightly defensively, Stephen made a face shaking his head.
“You are dating her, America told us you invited her over for dinner and that she met her formally this week.” Stephen shot you a triumphant smile, and you could only roll your eyes at that.
Of course, America would mention this to everyone who wanted to hear her.
“I’m not dating Carol, but I did invite her to dinner and introduce her to America.”
“You know it’s okay to move on, right?” Stephen inquired again, pressing the topic you had tried to evade for as long as your stubbornness allowed it.
You stopped what you were doing, Stephen continued cutting the bacon and serving the eggs and the coffee alongside a cup of warm tea and some crackers. He waited for your answer, hearing the noises of muffled conversation coming from the second floor.
“I’ve been going out with her, and she seems nice, and quite found of me, and the sex it’s incredible and…”
“But you don’t feel anything?”
You sat down shaking your head, “I like her, and of course I feel affection for her, but…”
Stephen nodded in understanding placing the cup of coffee in front of you, he sat by your side taking the tea in his hands.
“I understand.” He blew on the mug before speaking again. “Why do you continue with the relationship, though?”
“I was hoping I would feel something, but I know it’s not fair to her…to me.” You snorted taking a long sip from the black beverage. “I guess that’s why I have been running from you.”
“Ah, the wisdom of the older generation.” Stephen winked at you leaning in. “It’s okay to feel confused, and to want something, Y/N. What it is not correct is to play with someone that may be interested in you.”
“I know.”
Stepehen made a face satisfied with the ending of the conversation, then his eyes drifted to the newcomers that were talking animatedly about some movie. America’s eyes lit up and she soon run towards Stephen hugging him tightly.
“Uncle Strange!”
“Hey, kiddo!” Billy stood unsure at the entrance of the kitchen, he glanced first at America then a Strange and finally at you.
You tilted your head patting the chair beside you.
“Want something to eat, Billy?” He nodded approaching the chair, helped by you he fixed his body to move closer to the counter.
“So, young man, America tells me you are one of the men of the house, is that correct?” Stephen asked serving him a cup of orange juice, Billy opened his eyes big nodding tentatively.
“Perfect, tell me, do you like eggs with bacon or toast with jam?”
Billy pursed his lips thinking hard before talking, “toast with jam.”
“Good selection, my good sir, let’s eat then.”
____________________________________________________________
Saturday night came faster than you thought possible.
Christine and Stephen had spent most of the day with you and America, and most of the morning with Wanda and the twins. You had left your neighbours house with a heavy heart, thought secure in the knowledge Tommy would be just fine and that Wanda and Billy would be okay.
The afternoon had been quite the familiar time, in which America had enjoyed the company of the couple while talking about school and her aspirations for the future. The topic of Carol was not brought again into conversation, but you knew that Christine was thinking the same as Stephen and that most of that conversation had been thanks to America’s own concern.
You took a quick shower before getting inside your bed, your phone had been forgotten most of the day and by the time you finally got to see it the first message that appeared in there was that of Carol.
“Hey, just wondering if you are okay, hope you have an amazing day, Y/N. thinking of you.”
You turned to the side, your mind playing around what had happened in the last day and a half. The twins, Wanda, the conversations and the things that were left unsaid. You knew deep inside your heart you needed to talk to Carol, with a trembling hand you went to write to her but, at the last minute your finger drifted to another chat. A new one.
“Hey, Princess, how are the twins?”

Summary: you’re starting to settle in at the avengers compound when an attack on the building has you spilling more about your past
Word Count: 1.3k
Parings: (Natasha x Y/n) (Bucky x Y/n)
Warnings: fighting, slightly disordered eating

You followed a single raindrop from the top of the window all the way to the bottom, it fell so slowly. “Come in” you said after a light knock on the door “only me” Natasha said as she peeked round the frame “how are you finding your new room?” She asked, you decided to stay facing the window pane “it’s a big change I know” Natasha empathised, having a conversation with your silence. “It’s the bed isn’t it?” She said “what?” You whispered as you turned your attention to the red head. “It’s too soft right? You should try taking the mattress off it’s-“ “how could you possibly know what this feels like?” You cut her off. Natasha didn’t take offence to your remark, after all how could you know about her past “sleeping on the mattress on the floor really helped me, when I first came here, from the red room” your eyes grew wide “you were in the red room?” You asked, the bile rising in your throat as you said the words “yes” Natasha said with a tone of surprise, opening her mouth to ask another question before you cut her off “I’m tired” you said as you turned to face the window once more “I’ll let you get some rest” Natasha said as she closed the door behind her. You pushed open the bedroom window and reached your hand out to feel the rain. It was cold outside but you didn’t mind, it was nice to feel the air and the water as it fell off your fingertips. You thought about the look in Natasha’s eyes, the suspicion she held. You thought about telling her, perhaps she was someone you could trust? You wondered why you had never met her. A loud roll of thunder broke your gaze, the edge of your hand getting caught on the open window as you jumped. You hated storms, so you quickly closed your window and climbed into your bed, pulling the sheets up over your head, blocking the world out.
Downstairs, Bucky was talking to some of his teammates about the possibility of a Hydra attack. He didn’t like to cause panic amongst the avengers but they needed to know that you were a target and you were living under their roof now. “We’ll protect her Buck” Steve said, placing a supportive hand on Becky’s shoulder “so we’re just gonna risk our lives for this girl because Bucky said so? She’s a complete stranger to us, she could be dangerous” Sam spoke up from the corner “you used to say the same about me Wilson” Natasha remarked “she’s not dangerous, she’s afraid. We can’t just send her out into the world to defend herself” she continued “you don’t know her like I do Sam, we have to keep her safe, please?” Bucky pleaded with Tony “we’ll set up extra security measures, make sure she stays in the compound and I’ll have Jarvis alert you or I if she’s in any distress” Stark said “Natasha too” Buck answered “I think she trusts you” he said to the redhead “ok Natasha too” Tony said as he settled on the couch “is there anything else we can do?” Asked Clint, Bucky thought for a moment but shook his head. The conversation began to fade and one by one people left for bed. Soon it was just Natasha and Bucky left, sitting in comfortable silence. Nat was the first to speak up “you think she trusts me?” She said “I do” Bucky answered “she might not show it and maybe she doesn’t even know it yet, but I see that look in her eyes. She knows you won’t hurt her” he finished. Bucky excused himself for bed and made it half way to the door until Natasha asked “has she said anything to you, about that mission, and what happened to her?” Buck stopped in his tracks, he had asked you about it but could tell you weren’t ready to talk about it yet “No” he sighed “ok, goodnight” Nat said, avoiding eye contact “night” Bucky said back as he left the room.
The next few days were slow. So slow that you couldn’t even remember how much time had passed. You stayed in your new room, not wanting to be around all these strangers. But there was Bucky, he would bring you fresh meals and sit with you even when you told him to leave. Bucky was the only person you allowed to check your wounds and on occasion, Natasha would stop by to say hello. No one had told you that the rest of the team were hard at work, watching Hydras every move taking turns to monitor the security cameras. There hadn’t been a whisper of movement since you arrived four days ago and Bucky was starting to think that maybe Hydra weren’t after you. Tonight, you were at the compound with Natasha and Bucky, the rest of the team had been sent on an overnight mission under Fury’s order. The widow and the soldier had convinced you to join them for dinner in the dining room, and as there was no one else around you eventually agreed. You pushed most of the food around your plate but did manage a few mouthfuls, much to Nat and Bucky’s appreciation. After dinner the three of you settled on the couch for some movies. You stayed silent while the pair conversed about the things they did and didn’t like about the film.
You were just starting to drift on when suddenly alarms blared throughout the compound. The sound rang through your ears as you jumped to your feet. Bucky begged you to go to your room and hide, but before he could finish his sentence you were following Natasha down the hall. “Y/n, you need to keep hidden!” Nat said “I can help. Let me help” you begged. The widow passed you a pistol and a dagger for your waist belt. The two of you sprinted back to the living room where Bucky was already fighting three masked guards. You caught a glimpse of their selves and the hydra logo sent chills down your spine. Gunfire rained down as fists were flown towards faces and stomachs were kicked. Natasha took a hard hit to the face and was knocked to the floor, Bucky was still preoccupied with taking down the last guard attacking him. It took you only seconds before you decided to dive for the agent who had hurt Nat, taking down the guard fighting you as you went. You through all of your weight at him as you swung around his shoulders to wrap your legs around his neck. Your body was so sore, you still weren’t fully recovered from your injuries. You fell backwards, aiming for the floor, and the guard caught between your grip came crashing down with you.
Bucky came sprinting back over when he had finally overpowered his attackers. “Nat, y/n!” He yelled “are you okay?” He said as he came to help you both to your feet. “Is that all of them?” He finished. “I think so, just the five of them” you said as you looked around you at the bodies scattered on the floor. “They must’ve thought you were alone” Bucky said as Natasha finally found her feet. She was slightly out of breath and was wiping the running blood from her nose. “How did you do that?” She said “do what?” You shyly asked “the way you took that guard out. Where did you learn to do that?” Natasha said, fearing that her assumptions were right and she already knew the answer. You mumbled for a moment, fidgeting with your fingers. “Y/n?” Bucky said with a voice laced with concern “did you learn it with Hydra?” He asked, not really understanding the silent conversation between you and Natasha. “No” you whispered. “Then where did you learn it?” He asked again. “In the red room”

Evelyn Preer
Tumblr media
Evelyn Preer (née Jarvis; July 26, 1896 – November 17, 1932), was an African American pioneering screen and stage actress, and jazz and blues singer in Hollywood during the late-1910s through the early 1930s. Preer was known within the Black community as "The First Lady of the Screen."
She was the first Black actress to earn celebrity and popularity. She appeared in ground-breaking films and stage productions, such as the first play by a black playwright to be produced on Broadway, and the first New York–style production with a black cast in California in 1928, in a revival of a play adapted from Somerset Maugham's Rain.
Evelyn Jarvis was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on July 26, 1896. After her father, Frank, died prematurely, she moved with her mother, Blanche, and her three other siblings to Chicago, Illinois. She completed grammar school and high school in Chicago. Her early experiences in vaudeville and "street preaching" with her mother are what jump-started her acting career. Preer married Frank Preer on January 16, 1915, in Chicago.
At the age of 23, Preer's first film role was in Oscar Micheaux's 1919 debut film The Homesteader, in which she played Orlean. Preer was promoted by Micheaux as his leading actress with a steady tour of personal appearances and a publicity campaign, she was one of the first African American women to become a star to the black community. She also acted in Micheaux's Within Our Gates (1920), in which she plays Sylvia Landry, a teacher who needs to raise money to save her school. Still from the 1919 Oscar Micheaux film Within Our Gates.
In 1920, Preer joined The Lafayette Players a theatrical stock company in Chicago that was founded in 1915 by Anita Bush, a pioneering stage and film actress known as “The Little Mother of Black Drama". Bush and her troupe toured the US to bring legitimate theatre to black audiences at a time when theaters were racially segregated by law in the South, and often by custom in the North and the interest of vaudeville was fading. The Lafayette Players brought drama to black audiences, which caused it to flourish until its end during the Great Depression.
She continued her career by starring in 19 films. Micheaux developed many of his subsequent films to showcase Preer's versatility. These included The Brute (1920), The Gunsaulus Mystery (1921), Deceit (1923), Birthright (1924), The Devil’s Disciple (1926), The Conjure Woman (1926) and The Spider's Web (1926). Preer had her talkie debut in the race musical Georgia Rose (1930). In 1931, she performed with Sylvia Sidney in the film Ladies of the Big House. Her final film performance was as Lola, a prostitute, in Josef von Sternberg's 1932 film Blonde Venus, with Cary Grant and Marlene Dietrich. Preer was lauded by both the black and white press for her ability to continually succeed in ever more challenging roles, "...her roles ran the gamut from villain to heroine an attribute that many black actresses who worked in Hollywood cinema history did not have the privilege or luxury to enjoy." Only her film by Micheaux and three shorts survive. She was known for refusing to play roles that she believed demeaned African Americans.
By the mid-1920s, Preer began garnering attention from the white press, and she began to appear in crossover films and stage parts. In 1923, she acted in the Ethiopian Art Theatre's production of The Chip Woman's Fortune by Willis Richardson. This was the first dramatic play by an African-American playwright to be produced on Broadway, and it lasted two weeks. She met her second husband, Edward Thompson, when they were both acting with the Lafayette Players in Chicago. They married February 4, 1924, in Williamson County, Tennessee. In 1926, Preer appeared on Broadway in David Belasco’s production of Lulu Belle. Preer supported and understudied Lenore Ulric in the leading role of Edward Sheldon's drama of a Harlem prostitute. She garnered acclaim in Sadie Thompson in a West Coast revival of Somerset Maugham’s play about a fallen woman.
She rejoined the Lafayette Players for that production in their first show in Los Angeles at the Lincoln Center. Under the leadership of Robert Levy, Preer and her colleagues performed in the first New York–style play featuring black players to be produced in California. That year, she also appeared in Rain, a play adapted from Maugham's short story by the same name.
Preer also sang in cabaret and musical theater where she was occasionally backed by such diverse musicians as Duke Ellington and Red Nichols early in their careers. Preer was regarded by many as the greatest actress of her time.
Developing post-childbirth complications, Preer died of pneumonia on November 17, 1932, in Los Angeles at the age of 36. Her husband continued as a popular leading man and "heavy" in numerous race films throughout the 1930s and 1940s, and died in 1960.
Their daughter Edeve Thompson converted to Catholicism as a teenager. She later entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Oldenburg, Indiana, where she became known as Sister Francesca Thompson, O.S.F., and became an academic, teaching at both Marian University in Indiana and Fordham University in New York City.

Tumblr media
inspired by the others who have put together rec lists for all fandoms, i wanted to do one of my own, and since my current obsession is all things clones, it just felt really fitting for that to be the topic!
none of these recs contain anything smutty (friendly neighborhood asexual here!) i know personally it's always hard to find fics through rec posts because 99% of the fics on those lists are explicit, so i wanted to do something to try to help others who are either also ace or just may not want to read smut all the time. however, if you're a minor, make sure to check each blog's guidelines before you follow them, as many authors do not allow people under 18 on their pages.
key:
a 🐝 means the link is for tumblr
a 🦋 means the link is for ao3
a 💐 means the fic is a personal favorite of mine (i picked 2)
for ao3 links i tried my best to see if the author was on tumblr to tag them but i wasn't always successful in finding everyone, so if i missed you i am very sorry! whichever site the fic is linked to is just whatever site i read the work on.
list and links are all under the cut! clone names and fic names are in alphabetical order.

A/n Sorry this took so long (again) but this series will continue. I have no idea when it will end tbh I have no real plan lol also it’s a super long chapter almost 6k. I debated splitting it in half to post but was like nah. So here ya go…
PART 1 || PART 2 || PART 3 || PART 4 || PART 5 || PART 6 || PART 7
it was nearing 9am and despite wanting to stay the whole day here in the treehouse Nat and Wanda would notice soon if they hadn’t already. Grabbing your sketchbook and pencils and stashing the snacks away again you slung it over your shoulder and began climbing down the ladder. At some point it had started raining.
“great” you muttered pulling on the hood of your hoodie in an attempt to keep dry. You didn’t have a coat or anything so it was the best you could do. you shoved your backpack under your shirt and despite it being waterproof you didn’t want to take any chances when it came to your sketchbook. You hurried back, weaving the familiar path through the trees.
As the compound came into sight it was raining rather heavily. your socks were soaked, and your shoes squelched as you walked. it felt awful against your feet, and you couldn’t wait to get them off. once in the foyer you slipped past the desk and towards the lift. deciding to head straight to the kitchen for a better breakfast than chocolate and cereal you threw down your backpack and began rummaging in the cupboards.
A moment later you felt strong arms grip your biceps from behind and before you could react you were spun around and thrown into the wall. your head connected with the plaster with a loud thwack and in your dazed state you realised a hydra agent was in the kitchen with you.
He must have waited for you to leave the treehouse and followed you back. he pinned you to the walls and twisted your wrist at an unnatural angle. leaning in close you could feel his breath on your cheek. struggling in his hold you felt pain shoot down your arm from your wrist when you moved it.
All at once you shifted into a ferret and crawled through the man's legs to escape. At the same time a burst of red magic threw the man into the wall and he groaned and slumped unconscious. Natasha and Wanda ran into the kitchen.
Wanda hurried over to the man and Nat crouch down to where you were curled up whimpering behind a chair. Nat scooped you up in her arms carefully and began jogging to the lift to take you to the med bay. luckily bruce had stayed behind. you squirmed in her arms, and she shushed you whispering reassurances.
Jarvis had alerted tham you were back and in distress. Wanda and nat had been looking for you so they had hurried to the kitchen just in time to see you shift to a ferret and slip between the man's legs.
as she hurried you shift back into a human in her arms, and she stumbles slightly but stays upright carrying you bridal style in her arms. You groan and rest your pounding head against her chest and nat picks up the pace worried about you.
“How you doin there Y/n/n talk to me sweets.” She said sounding worried. You groaned again.
“Dizzy and it hurts.” you said. And Nat nodded. Your eyes were closed but you felt her move from where you were curled into her.
“Just hold on for another second love and then Bruce will take care of you.”
“Wheres Wanda?” you asked still dazed but noticing her absence.
“Shes just letting fury know whats going on and putting the hydra man in a cell. Nothing for you to worry about right now.” She hushed and you nodded weakly hissing at the pain that sparked with the movement.
“Hold on love just stay still for me.” She said as she walked into the med bay and set you down gently.
She turned you on your side. Knowing you hadn’t said you felt sick but not wanting to risk anything if you got nauseous.
She quickly grabbed Bruce who came and gave you a check-up.
She shone the light in your eyes and determined you had aggravated your concussion a bit and would need to rest for a few days. He deemed it ok for that to be done in your room and you mumbled “Great just as it was starting to go away too.” Then you thanked Bruce.
After a second of them both looking at you, waiting for you to get up and join them you suddenly lent forward and gagged. The nausea hitting you all at once.
Nat rushed to your side and lent you over the edge of the bed to avoid you throwing up on yourself. opting for the floor as a better option.
Meanwhile Bruce quickly grabbed a sick bag and rushed straight back. He handed it to nat who used one hand to guide it to your chin and the other to rub between your shoulder blades.
At that moment Wanda rushed in as you began to throw up.
“Oh love.” She said coming to stand on your other side and joining nat in comforting you. “Get it all out sweets its ok natty and I are here lovebug.” She said rubbing you back. You coughed and threw up again before leaning back against the pillows and closing your eyes.
“Sorry.” You mumbled.
“You don’t have to apologise Y/n.” Bruce said taking the sick bag from nat and disposing of it on the other side of the room.
“Let’s get you to bed.” Wanda said and helped you up supporting your weight on one side as Nat supported your weight on the other. They helped you out of the sick bay and thanked Bruce before going to the elevator and instructing Friday to go to your shared floor.
Bruce had ordered no teleporting or shifting until you're better. at some point you must have fell asleep in the lift as you registered Nat’s strong arms hoist you into a princess hold. you snuggled your face into her neck and drifted off.
when you woke it was dark. the room was dimly lit with the blinds closed and your head was pounding your wrist was in a black wrist brace and you sniffled. letting out a harsh cough that made your head hurt more you whined softly.
At that moment Wanda emerged from the bathroom with a glass of water and some pain medicine for you. you gave her a weak smile as she came and sat next to you on the bed. silently you accepted the medicine and took it.
“How are you feeling my sweet?” Wanda asked in a hushed voice.
“Bad.” you said and coughed. Wanda frowned at the rough sounding noise that ripped through your chest. With a cool hand she laid the back of her hand on your warm forehead. She clicked her tongue and shook her head.
“Love you're a bit warm.” she said, and you simply turned away and sneezed.
“Bless you Y/n.” Wanda said. “Wait here a moment.” she went back into the bathroom returning a moment later with a thermometer.
She pressed it to your lips, and you let her slip it into your mouth. after a moment it beeped, and she frowned.
“101.3 thats a fever alright my love.” she said with a sigh. with a flick of her wrist, she summoned a cool rag and laid it over your eyes.
“This cold doesn’t seem too bad, but it looks like being wet from the rain didn’t do you and favours my love.” she said, and you hummed burying yourself into her side and falling into a light doze.
Wanda sighed and scratched you head lightly. after a bit nat came in and swapped out for Wanda. the team had gotten back while Wanda had been in with you and nat had been grilling the hydra agent.
Nat slipped into Wanda’s side of the bed, freshly showered and laid a hand against your forehead and hummed.
“shes due another dose of meds soon.” Wanda said and nat nodded before shooing her out.
Wanda sighed and trudged dejectedly to the kitchen to make dinner for the team and soup for you.
after a bit Nat was alerted by Jarvis that dinner was ready. she had given you more meds and you had gone back to sleep around a half hour ago.
Deciding to let Wanda wake you she made her way to the kitchen. after sitting down the team trickled in and Wanda came and sat beside nat. nat frowned expecting you to be with the redhead
“Where’s y/n/n wands? aren’t you going to get her? Is she not eating with us?” nat asked and Wanda shook her head.
“The pain meds have her zonked and so I’m letting her sleep. Plus, I can’t eat and feed her myself at the same time. With the … you know” Wanda pointed to her wrist and Nat nodded.
“She was sleeping when i left her.” Nat agreed.
After the team had eaten Wanda went to get you from your room and she led you into the kitchen. You sleepily rubbed your eyes and curled into her side still standing in the doorway. Wanda rubbed your back softly.
The team had left now, and it was just Nat sat at the table waiting for you. Wanda settled you into a chair next to Natasha and brought out a bowl of steaming soup.
“Wands it’s ok, you go clean up ill feed her” Nat offered, and your cheeks reddened at the idea of being spoon fed by the black widow. As much as you loved Nat and she felt like a mother slash older sister even the idea of your girlfriend having to spoon feed you was mortifying on a good day.
Wanda nodded and stood. Your cheeks darkened another shade as the assassin brought the soup up from the bowl, blowing on the spoon lightly before she brought it to your mouth.
Wanda chuckled at your embarrassment and continued to use her magic to clean the plates from the rest of the team.
You were sluggish, clearly tired as Nat fed you.
You ate slowly and stared off into space. Nat took note of your glazed eyes and flushed cheeks, the red reached all the way up your ears.
After Nat had decided you had eaten enough which was more than half the bowl, she walked it into the kitchen and handed it to Wanda before walking back to you. You were still sat at the table staring off at the same point on the wall still.
As much as she didn’t want to leave you Nat knew Wanda was needed to run some errands for Tony by the request of Fury. Nothing that counted as an offical mission but some work she needed to do at headquarters.
Before she left Wanda walked back into the kitchen where you were sat as Natasha tried to get your attention.
“Y/n? Baby, Fury needs me to go do some stuff for him at headquarters my love. Natty’s gonna stay with you for a bit while I’m out my sweet.” Wanda cooed and kissed your forehead. She paused feeling the heat coming from you.
“You might wanna take her Temp Nat it might explain why she’s so distant.” Wanda said as her brow pinched in concern.
“We’ll be fine Wands.” Nat said and placed a hand on Wanda’s shoulder. Wanda nodded and began getting ready to leave.
Nat helped you up and walked you back to your room with an arm around your waist. Wanda’s room was next to yours on the left and Natasha’s was on your right.
When you walked in the door you beelined straight for the bed as exhaustion was weighing heavily on all limbs. You flopped down without an ounce of grace and Nat chuckled lightly.
“Come on Y/n/n you need to get changed first love. You have sweat through your shirt.” She said and despite her being right you whined still not fully understanding what was going on through the haze of a fever addled mind.
Nat frowned walking over and pressing her hand to your forehead.
“Dammit Wanda’s right your warmer than you were earlier.” She said more to herself than anyone else.
She walked to the bathroom grabbing a thermometer and a fever patch from the first aid kit under the sink before she returned and grabbed some clothes for you. She knew she would need to help you change after all you were not able to fend for yourself currently. Nat sat down by your legs and tapped your thigh.
“Lift your hips for me sweetie.” She said and you did, unbothered and eyes drifting shut as she slipped off your PJ shorts and replaced them before getting you to lift your arms for her as she changed your shirt as well.
After you were changed Nat took the thermometer and placed it between your lips and held it there with her hand. After a moment it beeped, and she removed it.
“Hmmm 102.7 That’s fever patch worthy babe.” She said and carefully took the patch from its packaging and placed it on your flushed forehead.
After she got on the bed with you and after a moment of shuffling you laid your head on her shoulder. Nat chuckled softly. She put on a movie without really paying any attention. Knowing you would be asleep soon she shifted you, so your head rested in her lap, and you fell asleep as she played with your hair. Making small braids everywhere she could reach. The feeling was enough to relax your tired body as you edged into sleep.
You had been sleeping for the better part of an hour, still in Nat’s lap she had found a better movie to watch while she braided and rebraided your hair over and over again.
She was now absentmindedly slipping on another hairband as she finished the plait when she noticed your face was all screwed up like you were in pain. Then you started to kick a bit and flinch in your sleep muttering soft but urgent words Nat couldn’t make out. She had seen enough nightmares from Yelena and the team to know what was going on and it was most likely the fault of Your fever.
She gently rubbed her hand up and down your arm to wake you gently. After minute you shot upright almost colliding heads with Nat who had been hovering over where you still laid in her lap.
At the last minute she dodged and watched your eyes hastily scanning the room. They were still glassy and held an edge of confusion. The fever patch had fallen off as you slept and was sat on the sheets nearby. Nat helped you steady your breathing and because you were tired and confused your emotions were overwhelming as you began to cry.
“I want Wanda.” You sobbed as she pulled you into her chest. Your head was tucked under her chin as she ran her hands up and down your back.
You still felt too warm, and she gently laid her hand on your forehead. When she had managed to calm you down, she helped you take some more medicine before laying you against her chest. You curled up with your hands fisting in her shirt as your breathing evened out again, falling asleep listening to the rhythmic beating of her heart.
Nat looked down at your sleeping form as your grip relaxed on her shirt as you slept. She carefully checked your temperature with her hand and hummed as it seemed to be going down. As she reached for the remote to resume her show Nat felt her phone vibrate beside her. Before the ringtone began and woke you up she quickly answered.
“Hello?” She asked.
“Hi Nat, I just wanted to check on Y/n/n. How is she doing?” Wanda’s voice asked. Nat sighed.
“She’s ok. I think her fevers going down. It was at almost 102 and she’s had a nightmare just before. I just got her back to sleep actually. She was asking for you. I think she’s exhausted and overwhelmed, she’s definitely confused because of the fever.” Nat explained and ran a hand through her own hair.
“I’ll try and get home as soon as i can. Thank you for looking after her Nat it means a lot and we both really appreciate it.” Wanda said.
“Anytime I love the two of your gremlins more than you realise.” Nat said and began rubbing your back again. Wanda laughed.
“Ok Nat we love you too. I have to get back to fury before he notices I’m not working. I’ll be home soon … hopefully.” Wanda said and they said goodbye before ending the call.
About two hours after her call with Nat, Wanda walked into the bedroom to see you and Nat curled around each other fast asleep in her arms.
Quietly she walked over to you and stroked the hair from your eyes, frowning at the wetness of your skin against her hand. Luckily you weren’t warm anymore, so it was most likely sweat from the fever breaking while you slept.
Carefully she roused you from your sleep accidentally waking Natasha in the process as she has always slept lightly for as long as Wanda could remember. As you blearily opened your eyes, they lacked the look of fevered confusion that he been present in hours prior. Wanda internally celebrated the small win.
“Y/n you need to get up sweetheart. You need a shower my love.” Wanda said helping you into a sitting position, in your sleepy state you missed the wet patch of sweat against Natasha’s shirt from where you had been sleeping pressed into her side. She seemed unbothered however, and slipped out of the room as Wanda helped you to the bathroom.
She sat you down on the covered toilet seat as you were still sick and exhausted. Helping you slip out of your clothes she soon shed her own and helped you into the shower where you lent against her heavily.
Wanda gently washed your skin clean of the sweat, using her scented soaps. The steam cleared some of the congestion and as Wanda helped you out and wrapped you in a towel, she began to apply lotion to your arms, legs, torso and face. You hummed, enjoying the skin to skin contact as much as humanly possible.
After a minute you were dressed again as she helped you back to the bed. Nat is sat on the bed; she had replaced the sheets and changed her clothes. Her shower had taken much less time than yours as she could do it unassisted.
Nat opened her arms to you, and you curled into her side as Wanda pressed up against your back to block you into their arms. Nat put on a movie she had been waiting for Wanda to watch knowing the young witch would enjoy it tremendously.
You were asleep in an instant and your softly breathing was warm against Nat’s neck where you face was buried in her shoulder. Wanda’s arms were wrapped around your midsection and Nat’s arm was around your shoulder.
While you were sick tony was getting heat from the team as to why you were the target of a HYDRA attack on the tower. They had been alerted to the break in by Friday when they returned, and Tony had been giving them nothing as they watched the footage from the security feed in the briefing room.
You were sleeping as Natasha and Wanda had slipped downstairs for the meeting while you did knowing you may need someone to defend you. She had told Friday to keep a close eye on you. Walking in the team sat around the table in the meeting room and waited for answers.
Tony knew he had to explain why hydra broke in and tried to get you, he hadn’t been entirely honest with the team, and he knew they needed answers and fury had told him it was time to tell the team.
He had more than enough reasons to so he would just have to rip off the bandaid. You had given him explicit permission to tell them if something like this happened. You knew it would be easier for you if tony told them instead of yourself which is why he hadn’t waited for you to be able to attend.
He begun to explain not missing the way Nat’s eyes gauged everyone reactions and took mental note of it all.
Eventually the meeting descended into arguing as most did.
“Shes a criminal and we thought she was dead” Steve said getting mad.
“So did hydra that was kinda the point Steve.” Tony huffed rolling his eyes and sipping his coffee.
“How do we know shes safe to be around now?” He argued.
“She wasn’t in control. And i know her i can vouch for her. Shes good now. And maybe if your head wasn’t so far up your ass you would see you did the same thing for Bucky.”
“Don’t bring him into this. That was different.” He shoved a finger into Tony’s chest.
“Yeah cap? How?” Tony shot back. “How was it different captain asshole?”
Just before tony could get his suit and Steve could throw a punch Natasha pushed them apart.
“Alright. Enough.” She yelled “theres enough testosterone flying around in here that my voice could drop if i breath too deep.” She said and bruce grumbled something about medical inaccuracies before retreating under Nat’s harsh gaze.
“Yes y/n worked for hydra.” Tony glared at her.
“But not because she wants to, she was forced. And whether you like it or not Steve shes similar to Bucky. Sure, they used different tech to brain wash her so it's not exactly the same. She remembers all of it which is a curse she has to live with for the rest of her life. She doesn’t need you adding to that Steve. Now shes an excellent fighter and she is an amazing avenger so both of you get your heads out of your asses and see that she needs a family to support her not a bunch of testosterone addled kids fighting over the last cookie man up and get over it.” Nat said.
“Geez nat you might have to take over the pre mission prep lectures from now on your giving Steve a run for his money.” Tony grinned and Nat glared before storming back to your room. Bruce was there having slipped out of the meeting once the arguing started. He was checking your vitals when she arrived. A nervous habit of his.
“How is she?”
“Shes fine her fevers broken which is good. Other than that, i tried to wake her for meds for her cold but she won't respond. Im worried about what Tony said about her powers coming back. I did a scan to see the proper cause of her fever earlier and its odd because there doesn’t seem to be one.”
“She was out in the rain that day and Wanda thinks it's just a cold. Maybe she’s just tired.” Nat said looked slightly worried. You were still sleeping, and it had been almost three hours now. You should be awake soon.
“I still don’t know why shes not awake yet. Something may be wrong.” Bruce said running a hand through his hair and looking stressed. He hated not have answers almost as much as Natasha did.
“Alright thats enough speculation there big guy.” Tony said walking in and nat glared at him.
“I thought i told you to cool off stark.”
“First off my niece.” He said pointing at the bed. “And second i do what i want around here.” Nat grumbled but let him stay.
“I think it's time i told you how little miss bear here got her powers. The first time they came they did the same thing, knocked her out for about a week while her body sorted itself out. Im assuming it's doing it again to get the rest back”.
“The rest?” Nat asked confused.
“Yes. She can do more than just teleport and shape-shift and i assume this”he gestured to the bed. “Happened when those came back as well.”
“What do you mean came back?” Bruce asked brow furrowed.
“Hydra suppressed them so she could only use them on their command, but the drugs seem to be working its way out of her system i don’t know why now after all this time but i assume it's because her body has finally relaxed enough after processing the trauma enough. Her system is finally rebooting fixing itself. Thats why i wanted her back here. Aside from her uses to the avengers she needs someone to keep an eye on her.”
“And you let her go out into the field.”
“She said it hadn’t happened in month we both thought the other powers wouldn’t come back, ok?” Tony said sounding slightly stressed.
“Ok it's alright tony thank you for telling us now i can look after her better.”
Bruce said placing a hand on Tony’s slouched shoulders.
“I need a coffee. Nat alert me if theres any change.” He said walking out.
“I would love a coffee thanks for the offer tony.” Nat called after him sarcastically. Bruce laughed and disappeared to the kitchen returning a moment later with a coffee for nat.
“Made a pot earlier.” Bruce said handing it to her.
“You're a lifesaver banner.” Nat said kissing his cheek and making him blush. He scurried back into his labs office stuttering something about rerunning the tests now he knew what to look for. Nat took a large sip of her coffee and sighed at the warm feeling.
“Im here y/n/n. Wanda and i are here and we won't let anyone hurt you. Now get better for me soon so i can kick your ass in training. I wanna know what cool powers you wake up with this time.” She grinned squeezing you hand. Wanda entered and sat on the other side of the bed. Brushing the hair from your closed eyes.
“She looks so cute when she sleeps.” Wanda said and Nat hummed in agreement. Somewhere in your unconscious state you felt safe. Something you hadn’t felt since hydra, your heart thawed slightly at the feeling.
Bucky had finally convinced Steve to give you a chance and the news had finally seemed to settle on the team.
Over the next few days, you were in and out of sleep completely drained an exhausted. After around three days you were awake again and fully ok. No new powers had shown up yet and you felt no different.
Sometimes it was simply a fluke. Your body may have been just reacting to the illness and stress.
You stuck to Wanda and Nat’s side. Clint was still waiting for his new hearing aids, so you had many talks with him in ASL while new ones were being made. They had to be waterproof for missions and taped into coms, so they were specially made.
Together the four of you brushed up on sign language and nat had begun to teach peter who struggled at first with the more complex signs before nat corrected him.
He was getting much better now and much to Clint’s amusement Steve seemed to get annoyed he couldn’t join in. Muttering about secret languages. He was simply annoyed at anything that kept him in the dark. The same way he didn’t like when you and nat spoke in Russian or when you and Wanda spoke in sokovian. You had picked up a few languages in hydra. Your commands were always in Russian and sometimes sokovian so it made sense.
Pepper had taught you French as a child and you also knew German and ASL. You were easily bilingual but not many people knew.
You had taken to calling Nat mama spider as a tease since she mothered both you and peter almost always. She always muttered something in Russian about cute tragic orphans that always made you grin.
Tony and Bruce had been in the lab together for what felt like days due to the blissful peace of no bickering or science jabber.
Of course, now there was a hit out on you and your life was at risk tony had made sure there was never a moment you were alone. If your escort, usually Wanda or nat needed a break they were to pass you off to another member of the team and under no circumstances were you to be left alone. It's not that you couldn’t look after yourself but more the team was afraid to lose you. You had grown on them all.
Clint loved the way you had brought more ASL into daily life and even taught some more people at the compound. It meant Clint didn’t feel so alone and didn’t need to wear the hearing aids he hates so much all the time.
Steve was nice and kind of like a big brother.
Bucky was the same. The goofy older brother who ruffles your hair and brings you snacks. He sat with you after nightmares, one of the few that understood. You didn’t talk just simply listened to the silence and his presence was all you needed.
Wanda, your amazing girlfriend was perfect in every way.
Nat your pseudo mother was awesome.
Thor was like a confused cousin who basically came ate all your food and then left again.
Bruce was shy but kind to you and happy to get into the details of your nonverabalism and talk about science with you.
Tony was still the ever-annoying uncle you had grown to love and hate at the same time.
Peter became what you assume a little brother would be like if you had one. Minus the fighting.
And Sam was alway just around being Sam which means he was being annoying as always.
You woke each night with nightmares after it seemed your weird sleep had brought back some unwanted memories so you had taken to spending some nights in your own room away from Wanda so she could get some real sleep and not worry about you. You always found some excuse.
You liked your late-night sessions with Bucky just sitting on the roof looking at the stars. After you both woke from nightmares. You loved the way Steve would pick you up and run away when you both stole Bucky arm. Or the way Bruce always left little notes with science doodles on them around the compound for you. The way peter invited you to help him build lego. The way Thor once let you eat his pop tarts with him. The way Sam and you pranked Steve. The way Clint was happy to show you how to do new archery trick shots after finding out it was a hobby of yours. The way Nat admired your ability to throw knives and the way Wanda always seemed to know what you needed.
You had bonded with them all after a matter of weeks.
Thought back to the first time you and Bucky sat together. You had been tossing in bed before deciding to get up after a horrible nightmare. You walked into the hall freezing as you saw Bucky leaving his own room down the hall.
He saw your distress that almost matched his own and motioned for you to follow him. Silently the two of you walked up to roof and sat down together under the stars. Bucky pulled you into his side, his long hair brushing the top of your head as your ear was pressed to his chest. His arms were around your shoulders.
Silently he held you as you sobbed. Unbothered by the tears that were staining his sleep shirt. He simply held you under the stars, the cool night air grounding as he rubbed his metal hand up and down your back. The cool groves of the metal gave you something to focus on enjoying the texture against your covered skin. You had always loved Bucky arm. The metal was soothing and cold. The groves you would trace absentmindedly in meetings when he sat next to you. Your fingers sometimes tracing the red star on his steel bicep.
After a few minutes your sobs die down and you grew slightly embarrassed. You began to pull away, but his arms tightened around you.
“Don’t go.” He said softly as you realised you were grounding him as much as he was doing the same for you.
“Ok.” You mumbled and buried your face in his chest again soon you feel asleep in his arms listening to his heartbeat.
The next morning when you woke, he was gone but the softness you felt was the pillow and blanket he had used to tuck you in still on the roof in the shaded morning sun.
You stood stretching and tucking the blanket and pillow into a nearby vent on the roof, you felt this was not a onetime occurrence and you were correct.
You made your way to the kitchen feeling more rested than you should. In kitchen Bucky sat nursing a coffee. He sent you a small smile and a slight nod of his head but doesn’t say anything. The smile is genuine.
Over the next few nights, it became routine. Sometimes he puts you back in your bed, sometimes you rejoin Wanda or nat in their rooms after a bit or just sleep with him on the roof. He’s very comfortable it must be all the super soldier muscles.
Life in the compound was comfortable and you began to form a routine. You were sat now in the gym after finishing sparring with nat. You were both hot and sweaty and guzzling water. Nat swiped a hand over her brow and smiled at you flicking off the sweat.
“Your pretty good out there L/n” you said, and you nodded at the compliment.
“Not too bad yourself Romanoff.” You grinned and she shoved your lightly on the shoulder.
“Come on. Tony said he had a surprise for you. But shower first. You need to buy new deodorant because it's not working.” She joked and you lightly slapped her before heading for the showers.
