I’m thinking about how in Blue Period, a part of the story was dedicated to the idea of the naked body and how the main character is ashamed of his, feels disconnected from it, thinks of it as just a pile of putty, how nakedness is extremely vulnerable and terrifying. And they talked about how close everyone is to death. And when he painted a live nude model, he recontexutalized all of these feelings about nakedness into seeing it as something beautiful.

And then later in the story, they introduced a character with him unveiling a fuckoff huge nude self portrait of him draped across a couch. What a effective and efficient way of telling everything you need to know about him as a person before he even says anything. Like, normally a character being introduced like this would be a quick way of saying "this guy's an arrogant asshole," but with the specific themes the story built about nakedness, it says that he's a very transparent and confident guy who knows himself well.

Also, they used the ocean to represent death during that arc, with it taking place in a hotel that overlooked the ocean, and he spends a lot of time there too fishing as a hobby.

Edit: I’ve been informed that that’s not himself he painted. But being this comfortable about nudity still shows more or less the same point. Also, I haven’t finished the manga, so I can’t say whether this ends up being an accurate assessment of his character, just that this was my first impression of him.

a note for people who may not have noticed this:

at the start of chapter one, we get this view of Vash's wanted poster. notice that bit there about the murder of "Count Revenant Vasquez"

and then in trimax chapter 37, we see here:

Count Revenant Vasquez.

That's Conrad.

now the interesting bit is that Conrad hasn't died by the time we see that wanted poster. he's currently busy working to revive Knives, then follows him around once he's alive again. for Whatever Reason, Vash is being blamed before Conrad's death for his "murder"

which makes me contemplate a few possibilities. Conrad was present around the time of the July Incident. and not only that, but we see in chapter 28 that Vash was looking for him just prior to July

so like, What's The Deal? "Count Revenant Vasquez" is not "dead" by this point, just acting oddly in his big house. perhaps after July with his disappearance, people attributed his "death" to Vash, along with all the rest of July... but why would they focus on just him, rather than all of July? is this Nightow wanting to keep the reality of July under wraps this early in the story? or was Conrad really That socially important that his death would stand out among all the rest of July?

and another thing to consider is how Vash knew to look for him under that name in the first place. Vash was pursuing Knives at this point, the whole Point was that he managed to find Knives in July, but he did it by following the trail of Conrad. he met Conrad when he was a child, the second human he ever met, so maybe he somehow managed to deduce that Conrad was helping Knives out?

except when Vash sees Conrad in trigun chapter 20

he recognizes him, but he can't place from where. is this his July amnesia getting in the way? the general passage of time? it HAS been a century and a half since he officially met him. but if he knew to look for him by that name to find Knives, he must have known Conrad was following him around... and then perhaps as part of the amnesia of everything surrounding July, Vash forgot Conrad too.

it's interesting! brings the question of how Vash caught wind of Conrad's involvement with Knives in the first place. we do see that Vash has his fingers in information networks (like when he talks to the "shoemaker" in May City to try to gather information), so maybe that's how he found out? which honestly I find fascinating, given that Especially this early in the story, we just see Vash acting the fool. but even Years prior to the start of the story, he shows a level of resourcefulness and intuition that is Very much not congruent with his act of being a "fool".

and then he shows up to confront Knives in July and his plan is to just

show up, point his gun at him, and then... ???? something? which obviously blows up in his face in a MAJOR way bc Knives easily knocks him out & then has Conrad experiment on him.

which. isn't directly related to the Conrad point lol it just baffles me how smart yet dumb Vash is constantly. high intelligence, low wisdom build for SURE.

but yeah! I didn't notice the Count Revenant thing my first read through, so here's this detail for anyone else who might've missed it like i did

You know what, this was unnecessary but funny as hell. Not because Yuta crushed the ground. It's Yuji and Choso's reactions to him.

My first thought was "why are you surprised by that"?

Yuji be punching through doors and walls, jumping stories, throwing objects heavier than him, flipping and kicking and knocking people and curses the hell out and most of this is done WITHOUT cursed energy and he's just "no big deal".

so before I read chainsaw man, I knew next to nothing about it, I wasn't really a manga reader in general to be honest but I started getting into it because I wanted to get caught up with jujutsu kaisen after finishing the anime. when I did, I really enjoyed jjk, I wanted to read more manga and a friend suggested I read chainsaw man because it's similar. I was like okay... a lot of people are into it... it looks cool... why not.

and when I started reading and I got to that third chapter and I saw aki... I literally said to myself: yeah, he is going to be my favorite. because he's exactly my type — the suit, the hair tied up so it's long and pretty when he takes it down, the SMOKING??? THE PIERCINGS????? I thought his hair was silly but adorable, his personality was stern but quirky and likable, his kon power was so cool. he was just so cute and hot and definitely my type of character.

but really, even though aki was always my favorite character from the start, my obsession truly began when I finished the manga. aki's arc is just so good... I fell in love with him the whole way through but especially after the manga was over... I loved watching him grow as a character, he just feels so real and relatable personality wise and story wise. he's immensely flawed but kindhearted to his core. he's so human. I love how he's emotional and soft and the conclusion to his arc is genuinely my favorite thing in any piece of media ever, it's so bittersweet and compelling. (and I'm a mess for that bittersweet shit okay)

anyway after I read chainsaw man for the first time I was feeling a mix of emotions between "wow that was the greatest thing ever" and "what the fuck did I just read" but more than anything I yearned for more aki, and so I read it a second time almost immediately after, and then the aki brain infection just grew worse and worse.... was screenshotting every panel of him... I read it a third time... a fourth time in the colored version to collect more panels......... I started my blog over a year ago to post fanfic and rant about aki and the rest is history

becky blackwell and her family history

i have this theory abt sxf that keeps bugging me and its that the real head villains are going to turn out to be becky’s family + Damian’s mom specifically. 

now, do i think Donovan isn’t going to be a part of it at all? no, of course not. but i do get the feeling that Melinda is the one actually pulling the strings, with the major help of the Blackwells, possibly Becky’s mother (because of the mother’s club thing that Melinda and Yor are in). Everyone agrees Melinda’s first introduction gave everyone chills and I saw quite a few other people saying that it feels like Melinda is worse than Donovan too. Her cold aura, her lack of emotions towards her son and the way she gave even Yor the creeps? Definitely something there. +we already know that Becky’s family creates MAJOR military weaponry, and it seems like they’re pretty desensitised to how much destruction it causes. Melinda and Donovan could be funding + helping the Blackwells create those weapons, making them even deadlier than before. i mean look at this. 

Both of becky’s hairclips are literally military weapons of mass destruction - a literal bomb and a fighter jet?? for ur 6 year old??? and then of course there was the pink tank earlier too. It’s as if they are proudly claiming it and showing it off like family heirlooms, or a harrowing reminder that their family has this major power, shown even in their 6 year old daughter’s hair accessories and toys.  So obviously, becky isn’t aware of what this really means in terms of her family’s role in the war, and she’s probably been fed propaganda just like Damian and the other Eden children since her birth. So where am I going with this? A lot of fan theories/fanfics include how Damian is gonna feel finding out about Donovan and his involvement in the war, but what about Becky? Becky being told by Anya one day that her parents are both children of war, and then realising what her family has been doing for decades, presumably? Becky and Damian both finding that their beloved friend Anya was experimented on by rich influential people like their families, and now those same parents are trying to start war again? And what if Loid or Yor end up having to target Becky’s family as well, even killing one of them? I know that’s not the mission right now, as Loid is just working to get closer to Donovan to gain information, but who knows at this point. And then if that happens, imagine Anya reading her parents’ minds to find out that her best friend’s family is causing a war and she has to choose between saving Becky’s family and telling her parents about her telepathy, or just letting her parents save the world from a major military company causing mass destruction?  I don’t know what direction Endo will go in specifically, if there’ll be a reveal like that to the kids, or anything at all in the future, but it would be very interesting to watch and probably way too dark for the tone of the show right now, but things are definitely getting darker, with the cruise ship arc and now the recent chapters. I’m really excited to see how it all unfolds, and if Becky and Damian will both reject their family names and legacies in the name of world peace.

Late Night Brainstorming— 😪✨

So I’m planning to update Shizu’s reference sheet for a more polished one, as well as introducing more characters relevant to Shizu’s story.

Aside from her adoptive family with the baroness, I’m picturing Shizu would get her own fellow group of engineers in Clarines to learn from and train with to sharpen her skills. 👀

Now, it’s not an easy start for her especially considering the location she grew up in, Erith, was practically isolated and more old school than Clarines. Shizu is practically just starting pretty fresh as an adult and keeping close to the people who helped her first (Shirayuki and Obi.)

Not to mention Lady Bashira, you’ll see soon but with her horrible methods she wouldn’t be encouraging to progressive living/actively against it— 💀

So I’m planning to challenge myself with it, Shizu not being accepted for her skills so easily or deemed “amateur” as she trains to make it up there with them and sometimes be able to call the shots in this line of work. 😤
