Made a SpiderOC on Picrew (link will be below) and decided to share their story~

Their name is Crystal Chambers. Even though they are non-binary and prefer the name Crys, they keep the name Crystal as it's all that's left from their parents (though, they ask everyone to call them Crys instead)

They are non-binary, pronouns they/them. And they are Demisexual :)

Their costume is a light-ish teal with a green gradient on the tippy top of their head and down to their hands and feet. The inside of their hood also has this green tint. The spider symbol is a white to match the eye protection. The eye border is gold and "dripping" to mimic the gold blood and symbolises years of pain (edgy, I know. But every spiderfolk needs to be a little edgy, right?) Their webbing pattern is a faint gold. Like SpiderGwen, they have a hood for style and start wearing converse's when they meet her. The converse are a mustard yellow colour to match the gold while not blinding anyone.

Backstory;

They're an orphan from the UK, and were living in an orphanage until 13, where they got sick of the routine and loneliness, and set out to live alone... which led them to living in an old laundromat with ex-police captain Bobbie Brown. In exchange for living there and using his facilities, they'd help with the customers and laundry. Unofficially adopted.

At 15 they were bit by a "money spider" that, you guessed it, happened to give them their powers. At first, it was the usual fast metabolism, super strength, wall crawling, webshooting... but they also got something else. Due to the type of spider (this is made up bs by the way, don't flame me), Crys gained a strange.. affliction. Their blood congealed into liquid gold when exposed to the open air (discovered during a fight where they got a bad wound).

At first, they tried to keep it a secret.. but their good heart won out. They would give their gold blood to the homeless or charities in the hopes it would help them. But that made word spread about SpiderCrys's (their alias. Subtly was never their style, and for the longest time they had no one to protect by not sharing their name) ability.

After another bad fight, Crys stumbled home and ended up catching Bobbie closing up shop. Bobbie, of course concerned, rushes to help. But the government were on their way. It was chaos as armed forces broke into the establishment and kidnapped Crys. Trying to help them, Bobbie is shot and their "canon event" takes place.

Two years later, after endless experiments, Crys escapes the facility and goes into hiding. This is where SpiderPunk appears with a proposition. Crys takes it, explains their situation, and is basically adopted by Hobie as his new sibling. Crys enjoys living in SpiderPunk's world, but very much senses that Miguel is f-ed in the head and says no to helping them. Hobie appreciates the rebellion.

When asked about their relationship to Hobie (by one Gwen Stacey), Crys confesses that it was strange at first, as Bobbie Brown was actually Hobie's father in their universe. Their Hobie was actually in prison for anti-social behaviour and attacking police officers. They find the comparisons funny, but wouldn't have their new brother Hobie any other way. Gwen is shook.

I know I rambled a lot, but I couldn't help it XD I love them and their heartbreaking backstory :') Luckily, they're still a wise-cracking, happy-go-lucky Spiderfolk~

..just maybe not when faced with the government :')

OK, OH MY GAWD

Do you know the female spider man fantasy? All that black one? Glimmer wearing that costume, period.

I am not really up on my Spidermen (I have seen Into the Spiderverse and the Tobey Maguire movies but that is it) so I am not sure exactly which outfit you mean, though, in general, I believe Glimmer can rock any outfit particularly superhero spandex!

I will say that I have a one-shot I was writing for Halloween in my modern AU (which I, alas, did not finish in time but still hope to post eventually) where Catra and Adora host a Halloween party and Bow and Glimmer come as Miles Morales and SpiderGwen. And then Bow injuries himself trying to kiss her upside down because comedy.

(If you were wondering, Catradora dress as my other OTP, Cassunzel, because a) they would rock it and b) it's my fic and I can do whatever I want.)

Do you ever 100% have those days when you believe supercorp is in fact canon in all the ways compared to the het tropes? But there’s the thorn on your side that’s “waiting” on everybody behind the show to “confirm” what we’ve been saying and preaching for years now? And if it highkey comes down to the show pulling a catradora on us with supercorp I’ll be totally fine with it because I’ll just take that as a big fat “I told you so” to the haters. Analysis GO OFF 😚

Dude, you have no idea how many little break downs I have every once in a while because I just feel so confident that Supercorp will happen! Everything in the Supercorp-specific writing, music, cinematic tropes, actress choices, etc. has shown that Kara and Lena will and should be canon. Look, I’m in graduate school for psychology and I haven’t taken a film class in my life. I’ve never even been a big “shipping” person. But I watched Supergirl live all throughout undergrad, often with my straight friends (who were less into the show) and even they noticed all the things that we "delusional" fans discuss.

Iconic Superhero/Love interest tropes

The Hero having to choose between saving their LI or kids/city/world, but miraculously save both. May I present Exhibit A:

The LI standing between the Hero and their one weakness: literally every time Lena has built anti-kryptonite suits, protected Kara before she knew her identity, and specifically Exhibit B:

Dramatic saves of the LI: I present the longing looks mid-rescue for Exhibit C:

The Hero running flying toward certain death to save their LI: Kara disregards a kryptonite bomb in Exhibit D:

The LI being the last to know the hero's identity, but Hero will still risk their identity to save the LI: Everyone say hello to Exhibit E:

The Hero finding strength from their LI: the CW sure loves using El Mayarah in Supercorp posts! And social media aside, we've seen how confident and strong Lena makes Kara, both in dialogue and visually. (And it's a bonus that Kara makes Lena stronger too!)

Everything with food

Kara literally referred to food as a love language when talking to Nia. Only an episode or so away from bringing Lena food from 3 different countries. And let’s remember how Kara offered to fly to Italy for her first date with James...

Kara also always brought Lena food, even before season 5. That was their Thing.

We also have to talk about the absences of food: Kara dropping potstickers at Pulitzer ceremony when she sees Lena and not accepting Dansen’s invitation to get food after her falling out with Lena.

It was established all the way back in Season 1 (very much so in the fun Flash crossover) that Kara thinks food is more important than everything and will often use it as a coping mechanism when she’s sad (like in Season 2/3 about Mon). Yet, she’s so devastated over Lena that she can’t even eat her favorite foods? Interesting.

Color schemes and certain shots

The red/blue color scheme consistently used with Supercorp, with exception to the purple tones used in Season 5 to represent their conflict.

No other love interest for Kara has consistently used that iconic Super/LL color palet. Not James, Mon, William, or the two episodes with Adam.

I'd like to specifically remind everyone how Kara chose to wear purple with William, against Alex's explicit advice.

There are always lighting choices made with Supercorp shots. No other duo (besides dramatic Danvers sisters shots) seem to have such artistic care.

Do I even need to mention the balcony scenes? Both at the Pulitzer Ceremony and in scenes from multiple seasons where Kara has hovered over Lena's balcony-- most notably in 5x03.

Like seriously, do I need to mention the scene from 5x08 where Kara and Lena are looking longingly at the same picture of the two of them?

Music

If I know anything as a musician, I know scores. And Blake Neely has created certain melodies just for Supercorp saves. There’s the typical “Supergirl hero” melody, but it’s rarely used for scenes with Lena (besides the one instance in 5x07 cliff scene, when Neely combines the Leviathan theme with the Supergirl theme).

If you want to listen to examples: the brief save in 2x15 and the plane save in 3x05. Both melodies are unique, unreleased scores that (to my musical knowledge) have not been repeated with other Kara rescues.

Also, can we talk about how Supercorp has their own heroic theme, composed specifically for the 100th episode? Played by a live orchestra? For the one AU where Kara and Lena were partners from the start?

Decisions made by Melissa and Katie

We know they've known about Supercorp since at least the end of Season 2. Melissa showed Katie and they've been aware for years.

Yet, they play into the Supercorp dynamic. Longing stares, giggly dialogue, tear filled eyes, etc.

Regarding Melissa specifically: for her directorial debut she made two significant decisions. 1. She chose to have a camera pan over the room during Lex's speech, showing only Lena noticing Kara leaving and upset. 2. She dressed Lena in two comics Lois Lane outfits, one of which in red to parallel Kara's blue.

Melissa also has played Kara's interractions with Lena very similarly to how she played the Kara/James dynamic in Season 1. Something she chose not to do with Mon or William. But let's get into my next point...

Direct parallels with heterosexual superhero couples most on the CW

This includes Westallen, multiple iterations of Clois, Olicity, WonderTrev, Karolsen, PeterMJ, Deckerstar, Brainia, SpiderGwen, Lanolsen...need I go on??

You’ll notice there are actually more posts and parallels between Supercorp and het couples (the couples that most non-LGBT fans think of as more valid lmao), so take that as you will🙃

Despite the mistreatment of Supercorp fans, and LGBT fans in general, by some actors and crew, and despite the tone deaf plot lines and usage of characters, Supercorp has consistently held up with all of my points stated above. That's why I still have days where I can just feel it in my bones that Supergirl is playing the slow burn game with Supercorp. It clearly won't be as well-done as Catradora, because of how much sh*t they've pulled over the seasons. But just like you, I have days where I get strong feelings that maybe it’s all part of their poorly thought out plan and we’ll get that validation and happiness.

Now, the original run is 100 issues long and I know that’s a big commitment so I usually tell people to start with the one shot that’s started it all: What If? Vol. 2 #105, you can find it also as issue #0 of the 1998 run

Then going into Amazing Spider-Girl (about 31 issues if I recall correctly?) and back read once you’re done

Whyyy you dont like Frank Cho?

ages ago milo manara did THAT spiderwoman cover which naturally pissed a lot of people off and frank cho started bitching and whining about the filthy ~~~~sjws censoring art of women. which wasn't even the main issue when the cover essentially showed someones ENTIRE asshole. he’s drawn loads of parodies of it since because he’s a petulant child who can't take criticism, and there’s always some kind of dumbass commentary alongside it (1 / 2 / 3 / 4)

greg rucka also had him removed from variant cover duties on wonder woman, because he had to crop an underwear shot off of one of cho’s covers. this was changed to this . and again. the dude literally cannot take criticism without throwing a tantrum:

some hall of fame shite: 1 (ALWAYS w the slave leia costume) / 2 / 3 (he took to using spidergwen as the voice for his critics because after the spiderwoman cover he drew it with gwen, who is from an all ages book, with non sexualised costume, and she comes off as very young, possible a teenager???) / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 (most people don't think there’s much sexy about been shot in the spine and losing the use of your legs but mr cho found a way) / 10 (im guessing since its an unstoppable wasp virgin cover that the wasp on it is nadia who is again. a young girl) / 11 (oh we do incest too. its all fun and games here) / 12 (”damn my wide child bearing hips”. die, sir) / 13 (i dont know what an extra large tampon is either but the implication is she has a lot of sex so i suppose sense doesnt really matter here) / 14 / 15 (thanks frank we might have all been confused at the she being dropped from her name but you drew an ass/huge chest pose so now we all know for sure what a woman looks like) / 16 / 17

hi! Comics rec anon here! to answer your question, I'm not entirely new to comics, have read a few but not enough to say I have a specific type. The first series I read was all the jessica jones comics which I really liked, also the miles morales series which i enjoyed and the spidergwen series which was cute but the art was kinda annoying lol. i also like a couple of dc ones like mister miracle. so i think i prefer a general rec from you since the comics world is so big. thanks in advance!

Got it. Hmm… let’s see. It’s probably easiest to break it down by publisher then. I’ll try to give a mix of ongoing, finished, and “classic” stories.

Fair warning, I read a lot of comics (probably about 60 per month, and that’s not including manga), so even though this may feel like a long list, it’s short for me.

Marvel

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man - Relatively new series, and it’s been fantastic so far. Great art, and a bit more grounded than the Amazing Spider-Man run (which is also great). Stellar art, too.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man - A little YA-ish at times, but overall enjoyable. You get to see a lot more of Miles’ personality in this one, which is always fun.

Superior Spider-Man - Because nothing is more fun than seeing a semi-reformed Otto Octavius try to be a hero.

Captain Marvel - Kelly Thompson does a phenomenal job with this series. She has a great hold of Carol’s voice. Would highly recommend Kelly Sue Deconnick and Margaret Stohl’s previous runs to give context (Captain Marvel 2012-2017, Mighty Captain Marvel, and The Life of Captain Marvel).

Jessica Jones - Not sure if you’ve read Kelly Thompson’s recent run or just Bendis’, but hers is definitely worth a read.

Avengers (2019) - actually a solid run. I would check this out if you’re more into crossover, large-scale storytelling. They’re in the middle of War of the Realms, though… so maybe wait until like August or September?

Immortal Hulk, Daredevil, and X-23 - also good. I read them off and on (not really my fave characters to read on their own, I enjoy them in ensembles), but the stories are solid.

Rogue & Gambit - mini series that I absolutely love by Kelly Thompson (she does great character work) that came out last year. Mr. & Mrs. X is a follow-up to it and also tons of fun (nearing its end as well).

Runaways - I fell off of this when Brian K. Vaughn left, but I can say up through his run ended is well worth the read.

As far as classic stories, Infinity Gauntlet, The Dark Phoenix Saga, X-Men: Age of Apocalypse, Secret Invasion, and Secret Wars would be my first recommendations.

I would’ve recommended Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider, but maybe wait on that. It’s about to end soon and transition to just Ghost Spider (where she leaves Earth-65 and comes to Earth-616 where Peter and Miles are). Same for X-Men. I’m currently reading Uncanny, but X-Men is about to be overhauled soon. So probably hold on that front.

DC/Vertigo

Honestly, not the biggest DC fan (I lean more towards Vertigo actually), but there are a few that I enjoy.

Action Comics (starting at #1000) - I am not a Superman fan, but I enjoy this series, which says a lot. I enjoy what Bendis is doing with him in this run.

Naomi - a new series, also by Bendis, following the story of a young Black girl who is investigating the circumstances around her adoption. Don’t want to give too much away, but probably my fave DC run at the moment. And Jamal Campbell’s art is fucking gorgeous.

Dial H for Hero - it’s fun. It’s weird. Not for everyone, but maybe give it a shot.

The Flash and Batman, New 52 runs - New 52 gets shit from fans a lot, but I thought these runs were awesome. Very good story-telling.

Dark Nights: Metal event - Probably one of the best things DC did in a long time. It’s a massive event that pretty much reworked the DC universe and all the characters. Enjoyed it immensely.

Heroes in Crisis - this miniseries ended very recently. It’s a story focused on a major event that happens at Sanctuary, a rehab for superheroes suffering from mental health issues (e.g. PTSD after doing something that nearly killed them). Not your usual superhero story, which I liked.

American Carnage - very gritty story focused on a white-passing Black man who infiltrates a white supremacist organization. It’s really fucking good.

High Level - I picked this book up randomly because the cover looked cool. I’ve been reading it ever since. I would say it’s weird sci-fi/fantasy/cyberpunk adventure. A little strong on the language, but very interesting story and great artwork.

Birds of Prey - awesome series with the DC women. A little shaky sometimes, but Gail Simone does really good character work. Her run is probably the only one I’d bother reading.

Deathbed - miniseries by Vertigo that ended maybe a year ago. It’s so bizarre and hilarious and out there. I loved it.

Batwoman (J.H. Williams run) and Batwoman: Rebirth - Kate Kane, my favorite lesbian superhero. Williams did a great job in his run (and the art is to die for). Don’t read the back half, they change writers and it’s a goddamn mess. But then Marguerite Bennett (a queer woman) picked it up in Rebirth, and it got awesome again. Also, shout-out to Greg Rucka for officially making her queerness canon in 52.

Wonder Woman - Wonder Woman’s my fave of DC main characters (along with Martian Manhunter and Wally West I & II), and my favorite run for her is Greg Rucka’s. He does a surprisingly good job of writing women. The run is over at the moment, but I’d check it out. Good stuff there.

For classic stories, Kingdom Come, Watchmen, Flashpoint (precursor to New 52), and Neil Gaiman’s Sandman are some of my faves.

Image is probably what I read the most. Definitely has the most diverse pool of comics to choose from.

Saga - My favorite comic series of all-time. I’ve gotten so many people to read this and they love it. It’s weird - really weird, actually - but the storytelling is phenomenal. And it’s on hiatus right now, so plenty of time to get caught up.

Ice Cream Man - This series is so fucking weird, but I love it. It’s sorta like… Tales from the Crypt? Different stories (mostly horror) that all feature this demon ice cream man.

The Weatherman - This series is such a goddamn delight. I don’t want to ruin the plot but just… yeah. Read the first issue and it just goes crazy from there.

Man-Eaters - Sort of a niche story. Basically, this takes place in a society where when women get their cycle, they turn into giant cats and maul men, so they’ve given them pills to keep them from menstruating. Sounds weird? Wait until you read it. Probably a highlight series of the year for me.

Black Science - You might not like the art in this one, but maybe give it a shot? These scientists are trying to solve the problem of limited resources on Earth by hopping across dimensions for new ones (infinite dimensions, infinite resources). Only problem is, their machine got damaged so now they hop uncontrollably to whatever dimension it chooses for however long it decides. It’s a wild ride.

Middlewest - An interesting take on parent/child relationships and how the consequences of abuse, anger, and depression can manifest in dangerous ways. Sounds more bleak than it is - the story actually has quite a bit of humor.

Excellence - Very new series, but with a PoC lead, about PoCs, with mostly PoC creators. A story about a secret society of Black magicians and a son whose next in line to take on the mantle, and it’s pretty fucking cool. Issue 2 comes out this week - check it out!

The Walking Dead - I don’t think I have to explain this one, do I? Zombies.

Lazarus and Lazarus: Risen - Sci-fi story set in a dystopian society where the world is ruled by like 15 or so families, and they each have a Lazarus to fight for them. This is told from the perspective of the Carlyle family’s Lazarus, Forever.

Die - If Dungeons & Dragons and Jumanji had a baby, it would be this book. Sounds weird, but once you read it, you’ll find the description to be accurate.

Anything from Brian K. Vaughn - I have yet to read something from Brian K. Vaughn that I don’t like. Saga, Paper Girls, Y: The Last Man, Runaways, Barrier… his shit’s always good.

Independents / Not Marvel, DC, or Image

Some of these are nostalgia-based, so fair warning.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BOOM Studios) - very new series that’s out. Great art. If you were a fan of the show, I think you’ll like it. It’s a re-imagining of sorts. There’s also an Angel series that just started.

Nancy Drew (Dynamite) - Listen… I could not stand Nancy Drew as a kid. Never got into it and thought it was boring as hell. But I really loved this miniseries (another Kelly Thompson run). It’s maybe 5 issues?

Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and Go Go Power Rangers (BOOM Studios) - Honest to God, if you had told me 3 years ago one of my fave comics would be a Power Rangers one, I would have laughed in your face. Both of these series are really good and provide the continuity, nuance, and characterization the show lacked. Fan of the show or not, I’d say it’s worth checking out if you enjoy the teenage superhero genre. Also, just some really amazing art and world-building.

Anything from Jinxworld - This is Bendis’ own publishing company. He’s put out Cover, Pearl, Scarlet, and United States vs. Murder, Inc. All of them are really good.

Umbrella Academy (Dark Horse) - This is the series the Netflix show is based off of. Right now, they’re doing Hotel Oblivion in the comics, but start with Apocalypse Suite and Dallas.

So, there you go anon. There are FAR more I would recommend, but I tried to give a good range of books for you to choose from without (hopefully) overwhelming you. And if you have any questions, I’m more than happy to talk about any of them.

Late Birthdays

Gwen Stacy (Spider-Woman) Masterlist

Requested by @xxxtwilightaxelxxx : Well what about a gwen Stacy one, like she was supposed to take yn on a date for her bday but there was trouble somewhere and yn hadn't told her ( doesn't know she's a superhero) so yn thinks she's just forgotten and Gwen comes back and she tries to apologise but yn is really sad and everything about it since this was gonna be the first time she really celebrated it with someone that wasn't family? And in the end Gwen reveals shes spider gwen (spider woman?!?!) Like shes still wearing the outfit but has like a hoodie over it or something and yeah shes gives her a cute gift. Hope that wasn't too much lol

Word Count: 2,373 (long but angsty and fluffy in the end)

A/N: This took me two days, a sprained elbow and literally two hours of frustration but oh so worth it

Streamers and balloons filled the walls, music played from the corner of your room as the smell of pizza filled the air. Most of your guests had already arrived, they were making their way through the food and complimenting the decorations Gwen and her band had set up earlier.

You had never been one to make a big deal about your birthday, but your girlfriend and her band had managed to convince you otherwise. So far, it was turning out better than you expected. All you needed now was for Gwen to finally arrive, she was supposed to come with MJ but they were already late.

“Happy birthday!” MJ wished, grinning as you opened the front door. She held a small bag in her hands, you grinned and pulled her into a tight hug before taking her inside. There was no one with her, you assumed Gwen would be coming soon.

“Thank you!” You grinned, opening the bag when she slapped your hand, putting it away for later. You rolled your eyes at her antics as she slung one arm over your shoulder. The redhead had been one of your closest friends, she had been the one to introduce you to Gwen.

“So who else is coming?” MJ asked, walking inside to greet the rest of your guests. She bit her lip, checking her phone for texts from Gwen. The blonde wasn’t replying to any of her frantic texts, she was going to be too late.

“The rest of the band,” You gestured to the girls who stood in the corner, trying to steal pizza from someone else. “a few other friends and my girlfriend.”

The redhead raised an eyebrow while picking up a slice. Gwen had gone official with you only a few weeks before, she was surprised you were already calling her your girlfriend.

“By girlfriend, you mean the dorky guitarist in our band?” MJ joked, you laughed and slapped her shoulder playfully.

“Yep.” You nodded, picking up a slice, and enjoying your birthday.

The party progressed, you frantically asked MJ when Gwen would arrive.

But the redhead didn’t know either, she tried to distract you from it though. But you heard some of the people talking about how you’d showed off about your girlfriend who never showed up.

The blonde should have been there hours ago. You remembered vividly how she was eagerly planning the party for your birthday. Gwen was not the kind of person to stand someone up like this. Especially since she knew how much this meant to you. This was one of the few times you had a party, but this was the first time you were dating someone who organized the party.

It meant a lot to you, it made it hurt even more to know she missed it.

But you didn’t know why she was missing it. Today was one of the few times Gwen was hoping nothing would come up. But an idiot was robbing the bank and causing a ruckus with a hostage situation. Gwen had gone in thinking it would take a few minutes, but guns and hostages too longer than she had thought.

Once it was all over, she looked at her watch to see she had missed your party by hours. There was no way you’d been waiting for her this long. Gwen loved being spider woman, but she wished it didn’t take so much her of her time away from you.

“Damnit,” Gwen cursed, unzipping her bag quickly. It was hours after she was supposed to be there for your birthday.

The cupcake in her bag was slightly crushed, but the necklace she had gotten you was still there. There wasn’t enough time for her to change, she put on her spare white hoodie over the suit. From afar, it looked like just a hoodie and a pair of leggings, nothing like a spider suit.

Running as fast as she could, she made her way to your door. Eventually stopping her panting, she knocked on your door rapidly, hoping you would open up. She had promised to attend your party then go somewhere with you afterward.

But she had let you down.

“Look who finally showed up.” You remarked, raising an eyebrow at her. Gwen winced at your hard expression. You had the right to be furious with her and shut her out, maybe even break up with her. But she hoped you wouldn’t, even if she couldn’t tell you why she missed what was important to you.

“Y/N, I’m sorry-” She began to apologize, but you weren’t listening.

You had already turned around after trying to slam the door in her face. Gwen stopped the door with her foot and walked inside. All of the decorations she had helped set up were still there, but everyone had left. The food was eaten, the cake was gone, the balloons were on the ground after being hit around for hours.

“Save it,” You sneered, sitting down in a chair.

“I had to celebrate with the people who thought my girlfriend was coming.” You gestured to the mess of streamers and balloons around you. The despondence and the embarrassment of the whole situation flowing out of your mouth.

“Every person who came, they asked me when you’re coming.” You glared at her, sighing and sitting down on the chair. “You stood me up, Gwen.”

“I know,” Gwen sighed, moving to stand in front of you.

When you didn’t look up, she knelt in front of you, her hands resting on your knees. You refused to look her in the eyes. The anger was clear, you were hurt when she didn’t show up. You hated shouting at her, being angry with her. But you were hurt, badly.

“I didn’t mean to, some things just came up.” She confessed, biting her lip when she noticed her secret almost left her.

You deserved to know why she left randomly whenever you were spending time together, you deserved to know more than anyone. But if she told you, if you got hurt because of her, she couldn’t live with another regret.

“Clearly ‘things’ are more important,” You scowled, pushing her hands away from your knees. “why did you even bother showing up?”

“Because I care!” Gwen exclaimed, stepping away from you but still trying to make eye contact with you. You crossed your arms and raised an eyebrow, turning angrier by the second.

“Do you?” You scoffed, unbelieving. Gwen looked at you pleadingly, almost begging you to forgive her. Blue eyes stared at your face but you refused to look at her.

“Yes,” She insisted, reaching into her bag.

“I brought you something,” The blonde continued rummaging in her bag, trying to take out the cupcake. Some icing got on her hands, she winced at the feeling.

“Gwen, I don’t care.” You sighed, your words stopping her movements. Your girlfriend turned to face you, an apologetic look on her face. You sighed and leaned forwards.

“Whatever you were doing before is more important, just.” Biting your lip, you shut your eyes hard to prevent your tears from breaking out.

“Can I at least know what you were doing?” You asked, tilting your head to the side curiously. There had to be a decent reason she wasn’t there for you. Some explanation as to why she ran off at random times. You wanted to know.

“No,” Gwen answered instantly, surprising you. There was a conflict in her eyes, but her decision seemed final.

“Then why are you even here?!” You shouted, anger bubbling to the surface. Whatever was more important to her than you, there was no reason for her to be here.

Thoughts raced in Gwen’s head. You should know why it seemed only right for you to know. There still would be the risk of you getting hurt because of her. But protecting you from that by not telling you seemed selfish, especially after seeing how much she had already hurt you.

“If what you refuse to tell me was so important-”

“I’m spider woman,” Gwen stated, cutting you off. You raised your eyebrows and scoffed.

“And I’m Batman.” You quipped, dead serious.

“I’m serious,” The blonde said, biting her lip as not to laugh at your response.

“No, you’re not,” You sighed, about to leave when Gwen quickly took off her hoodie to reveal the suit underneath. The hoodie was discarded on the side as the blonde remained in the suit, the mask peeking out from the hoodie pocket.

You’d never seen spider woman in person, only a few times when you thought you were being followed. But you’d seen her on the news. The entire city seemed to believe she had killed Peter Parker. You’d been friends with Peter, you knew he had poisoned himself, spider woman had been trying her best, Gwen had been trying her best.

“Holy shit you’re spider woman?!” You exclaimed, surprise and shock filling you. The suit was skintight, you bit your lip as your eyes moved over her.

“I couldn’t come because some idiot decided to rob a bank to celebrate your birthday.” Gwen sighed, looking down in embarrassment.

“Honestly,” You chuckled, running a hand through your hair. “that’s the reasoning I expected the least.”

Gwen lifted the mask, fidgeting with it as she thought about your words. You’d thought of more reasons than her.

“What did you expect?” Your girlfriend asked curiously.

“I don’t know,” You shrugged, leaning against the dining table. “you forgot, your car broke down and you refused to walk,

“Nothing as good as this anyway.” You finished, gesturing to her suit.

“So,” Gwen bit her lip and lifted the mask a little.” you’re okay with this?”

Her eyes gauging your reaction carefully. She wasn’t sure what to expect. Her fear was you would push her away, consider her a murder. But you seemed to be surprised, sarcastic even. The anger from before was still visible, but there was more surprise than anger now.

“My girlfriend is kicking people’s asses every day and is on the news secretly,” You smiled as you watched your girlfriend giggle. “why wouldn’t I be?”

“Thank you for not asking if you can tell everyone.” Gwen laughed, shaking her head as she remembered MJ’s reaction. The redhead had been found out by accident when the mask had torn. Her reaction had been disastrous, she had almost let the entire block know she was spider woman by screaming.

“God no, I’m not that dumb.” You muttered, a small smile on your face. The frustration in the air had faded. Neither of you knew where to go from here. Gwen wanted to make this up to you, but she wasn’t sure how to ask you.

Glancing at her bag, an idea came to her. The present and cupcake was still unrevealed, she could give it to you before making it up to you.

“Close your eyes,” Gwen said, you turned to face her in confusion.

“What, why?” You asked, eyebrows furrowing.

“So I can make it up to you.” She smirked, you rolled your eyes and obeyed.

“Fine,” You grumbled, closing your eyes and clamping your hands over them.

“Open them on the signal,” Gwen instructed, rummaging in her bag.

The box with the necklace had a little icing on it, she hastily rubbed it away and pulled out the cupcake. The box for it was completely crushed, the icing was everywhere. Gwen tried to fix it, straightening up the wrapper and trying to make it look presentable.

When she set everything up, she smirked as she thought of a signal. Leaning in towards you, she kissed you gently on the lips. Fear you might still be angry began to fill her until she felt you kiss back, hand coming up to cup her cheek.

Her eyes fluttered shut as she leaned into you, sighing softly. Out of breath, she pulled away, a hot blush on her cheeks.

“We should test that signal more often.” You remarked, a smug grin on your face as you opened your eyes.

“Shut up,” Gwen laughed, handing you the small necklace and the slightly crushed cupcake.

You laughed at her reaction and opened the necklace box. Inside, there was your birthstone on a golden chain. The chain wasn’t too fancy, it was minimalistic enough to wear anywhere. You twirled it on your hands, watching it shine in the light.

“I was originally gonna get the ring but then it looked too much like an engagement ring,” Gwen explained, scratching the back of her neck bashfully.

“It’s better this way,” You marveled at it before handing it to her. “help me put it on?”

Gwen moved to stand behind you, easily undoing the clasp and putting it on. She tapped the side of your neck when she was done, letting you put your hair back on your neck.

“Did you bake that?” You asked about the cupcake on the table.

Gwen hummed as she finished putting on the necklace. You moved to take a bite of it, eyes widening at the taste as you turned to face her.

“Wow, spider woman, a cute necklace and a muffin,” You grinned, finishing the cupcake. “I got the whole package.”

“Sorry, the package came late.” Gwen apologized, shuffling her feet with a small smile on her face. It seemed your anger was gone, but her guilt remained. But there were ways she could make it up to you.

“I can make it up to you with a date.” She said, smiling at you.

“I think I’d like that.” You replied, reaching forwards and taking her hand. Your girlfriend squeezed your hand gently. Her strength just enough to make you feel safe, never to hurt you.

“It wasn’t a question babe,” Gwen said, pecking you on the cheek and leading you out. You laughed and followed her out.

The rest of the day, Gwen spent spoiling you. You went around the city, pointing out random things you wanted to do or buy. The blonde eagerly bought them for you, doing whatever you wanted to do.

You couldn’t have asked for anything more, the frustration had faded away into happiness at being around her. Every second of it was amazing.

Gwen had let you down a little, but she still made sure you had the best birthday. After all, you were her girlfriend.
