I cannot wait to see Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken no matter the mixed reviews and numerous spoilers. I'm thinking of going this weekend to the cinema. This, is for a very important reason:
Tumblr media
Chelsea Van Der Zee, is the reason. When I initially saw pictures of her, I was hyped to see how DreamWorks is going to poke fun at the live-action remakes. Because come on, production of this movie started 2 years after the announcement of the live-action Little Mermaid. BUT, there is another layer to the parody of her character that will fly over most people's heads: She's a Dutch mermaid. Her faux-Dutch last name is a proper sounding Dutch surname, it doesn't falls into the pitfalls of writing it as Vanderzee, and whilst on the nose it's a well-constructed surname. Like, the people who created her last name were aware of HOW our surnames were constructed and didn't end up creating a non-realistic surname that simply sounds Dutch like Gossip Girl did. I remember trying to playback a moment in the trailer several times, when Chelsea confronted Ruby about being a kraken in the trailer, she says a word at the end that I couldn't place and no matter how many times I rewinded it I didn't understood what she said. Until I came across the scripted version of the quote yesterday; “I know your secret. You're a kraken, hiding as a human. And soon, everyone will know the truth. Kusjes!” Kusjes is horribly butchered, but it's Dutch for 'kisses' and we actually do use that and XOXO, just like English speakers do so the usage of Dutch that I have seen so far is correct. Now, I have actually seen people speculate she's Dutch because of That's So Raven, but as a Dutch person myself I see it from a different angle: There's a phenomenon I like to call the 'Dutch Default'. Historically, the English had difficulties recognizing which Germanic speaking culture was which. You can even see this reflected in our English name, 'Dutch', when that's how the Germans refer to themselves, as the Deutsch. We calls ourselves Nederlanders in our tongue. Pennsylvanian Dutch? I was told the area was mostly Swedish. I can continue with examples. Whilst I noticed the UK has became a little better educated about the topic, this is still perpetuated by Americans to this day. When The Little Mermaid live action was announced, there were various people who actually confused us for the Danish. Some were harmless comments like calling the novel Dutch instead of a Danish novel. Others were not. When there were Danish people speaking on social media about how disappointed they were with how Disney treats one of their national symbols, there were hate comments from people defending The Little Mermaid, but various were directed at the Dutch because Americans were too lazy to even Google which culture they are hurling insults too. This, was all taking place during the production of Ruby Gillman. Now, how likely is it that Chelsea is a Dutch mermaid because of That's So Raven, and how likely do you think DreamWorks noticed Twitter and decided to use the Dutch Default as another layer to the parody of Chelsea's character? Because it's not like the entirety of Hollywood seems to be unaware of this phenomenon. The Umbrella Academy S2, actually has this scene with the Swedish brothers being called Dutch even though the characters were already told they were Swedish, and Five corrects them like, "No, they're Swedish." Paired with how Luther shouts at innocent Olga through the phone, it gives a perfect portrayal of how clueless Americans are about foreign cultures. There are people in Hollywood who do notice how little Americans know about other cultures and will harass innocent people on false misconceptions. For DreamWorks to poke fun at Twitter wars for doing so, makes me love Chelsea Van Der Zee.
If I ever see one of those stupid Americans again because this whole drama isn't completely over yet, I will summon Chelsea to drown them to the bottom of the Ocean.

Why have the Hargreeves not danced to “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge yet?? Petition to have the series finale be them dancing to that song before the credits roll. Bonus points if a disco ball is there somehow

Welcome, all!
I’m Meagan, aka Winged, and I’ve been kicking around the Narnia fandom since 2008! In addition to writing for random other fandoms over the years, I’ve recently fallen deep into Danny Phantom. So I figured this was a great time to make a little intro masterlist of the sort of stories you can find over on my AO3!
Narnia 🦁
I…have written so much Narnia, y’all. I won’t link absolutely everything but will highlight series and and personal favs:
In Some Darker Age: a collection of mostly unconnected dark AUs spanning the entirety of the series. Including Susan as Jadis, and witchy!Jill.
📖 however deep the magic lies: Susan becomes Jadis.
📖 by the blood of the stars: Witchy Jill is the Lady of the Green Kirtle’s apprentice.
📖 to perish in fire and water: a sort-of sequel to Witchy Jill, also featuring Susan!Jadis and the end of the world.
In a Lighter Age: parodies, crackfic, and other absurd Narnia AUs. Featuring my very favourite: BTS in Narnia.
📖 Roll for Initiative: D&D AU of the Prince Caspian movie
📖 if one could drive forever: crossover of Last Battle and that infamous Supernatural finale
📖 Beyond Typical Sightseeing: Members of BTS keep falling into Narnia
Multi-Chapter Stories:
📖 Against All the Powers Ranged: Edmund time-travels through Charn and meets Jadis’ sister again and again
📖 The Splendour of the Stars: Peridan/Edmund during the Golden Age, with bonus Aravis
One-Shots:
📖 Garbed in Feathers or Scales: Susan visits the island of the Sirens.
📖 Witching Season: Jadis seduces the last pre-Winter king of Narnia
📖 White Lilies: an asexual queen of Narnia finds her heir
📖 Tidings from Beaversdam: Caspian/Edmund post VDT ruling Narnia together
[See all Narnia fic]
Danny Phantom 👻
📖 Ghost Town: Valerie investigates Amity Park nine years after all its citizens disappeared (Invisobang 2022)
📖 Brother Mine: Jazz returns to Amity Park to reconnect with feral Danny
📖 Something in the Shadows: Jazz's college roommate learns about ghosts (companion to Brother Mine)
📖 Cool Tones: Paulina Phantom AU (Reality Trip zine)
📖 Half Rage: Danny has Lazarus Pit Madness (DC-Fusion)
📖 Something Rotten: Hamlet AU with bonus Ghost King AU (Invisobang 2023)
[See all Danny Phantom fic]
Other Fandoms 📚
12 Monkeys
📖 Strange Happenings at the Deacon Brothers Bar: post-series, Deacon meets some strange people
Among Us
📖 Oh Blue, If Only You Knew: Time Travel fic
Everything Everywhere All At Once
📖 Knife Skills: Chad and Raccacoonie origin story
Lockwood & Co
📖 Locked: Norrie experiences Ghost Lock
Artemis Fowl / Umbrella Academy
📖 Regarding the Likelihood of Dodging Certain Death: Artemis and Number Five work together to stop yet another apocalypse

what media do you like to consume sleepy
You know how my music tastes are all over? So are my media preferences.
I like cheesy, bad Chinese dramas, but also I like really well acted, compelling storyline dramas.
I like anime, though I've only been watching it with friends of late.
I like close knit found family or other variations on friends/coworkers, especially with action or hurt/comfort.
I really, really like emotional gut punches sandwiched in between shenanigans, i.e. the umbrella academy, mash, Ted lasso.
I like silly nonsense, like parodies or bad movies.
I like fan films. Bonus points for blood that you can tell is red colored corn syrup and fantasy settings with power lines in frame.
I like some procedural crime shows, 'cause they're not all made equal! Or have likeable casts! NCIS and Bones are my first choice, but also ncisla or l&osvu.
I like British crime dramas too, like Midsommar Murders and Father Brown.
I like superhero stuff, but it ain't all made equal either. Justice league and young justice were pretty fantastic tho.
I like fantasy stuff, like Merlin or Shadowhunters (but I have THOUGHTS) or The Originals or One Piece!
And I like to snoop out adaptations, whether they're of things I am familiar with or not.
I like movies like a knight's tale and ladyhawke and master and commander and lord of the rings and mission impossible and stardust and top gun and star wars and casablanca and lots of other ones.
And other stuff, too.

3, 6, 9 📺
Hey love ! So sorry i'm extremely late to this i'm having a bit of a depressive episode as the kids say lmfao. Tysm for asking and also i really really wanted to be asked 6 & 9, we're so connected !!
3. have you ever quit a show before it finished ? why ?
oh yes so many... the thing about me is I watch a lot of mild to bad tv shows intentionally, like i find it extremely relaxing for some reason (i's a lie i know the reason, the reason is adhd), so my number one reason for quitting a show before it even finishes airing is it went from entertainingly Not That Good to truly shitty and nonsensical. Here are some examples : Elite, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Umbrella Academy, Sense 8, Dear White People...
6. which shows do you think are underrated and need more love ?
Ok so the number one underrated show on earth is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and i could write a whole essay on that but i will try to keep my composure lmfao. But yeah it's one of my favorite shows, i think it's absolute fucking genius, and so it's sooooo frustrating to me that it's SUCH a polarizing show, like, most people just don't get it apparently, i know a total of two people irl that have watched and liked it (aka my now ex-gf and a friend of hers). And I mean i know why it's such a misunderstood show. It's because, as my ex used to say, it's built like a trojan horse : basically the entire thing is satire but it's not made obvious right away so most people just quit before they get it. And it's also like a very specific type of humour i guess, like you gotta love satire, parodies, dark jokes about mental illness and trauma (and just generally that "hit it where it hurts" type humour), and you gotta also be pretty knowledgeable about pop culture (especially musical genres and romance tropes). But yeah it definitely needs more love, i mean it's like it was made for tumblr specifically, more people should give it a try or retry it, yadiyadiyadah.
9. what’s one show you thought you’d hate but turned out to really enjoy?
So there's this little swedish teen drama on Netflix called Young Royals. I don't know if I expected to hate it but i thought "this is gonna be meh for sure, cause it's, you know, a teen drama" but it's actually really good and i'm obsessed with it ?? The thing is the plot is sooo predictable and basic but the actors and directing are so good that it somehow works and you're like "yup this is real life". The main couple has the most insane chemistry i think i've ever seen on TV, the actors all look like real teenagers and real people (they have like acne and fucked up teeth and real bodies and greasy hair), it's just really immersive and super touching. If you like the (gay) romance genre give it a try honestly ! (and even if you don't i think you would agree with me that it's good tbh, i made my ex watch it and she is even pickier than me and doesn't really give a crap about romance and she was into it !). So yeah basically i've watched a lot of teen dramas in my life and it's the only one i genuinely first degree consider a good show. Heartstopper wishes it was even close to that level honestly lmfao.

Just curious what Live Action Tv Shows and Movies do you prefer Crimes,Drama or Mystery or etc mine will be Crime And Hospital shows and movies
Live action? I can’t say I stick to one specific type. I watch Criminal Minds every now and then, and I’ve been binge watching the Walking Dead lately. I also like watching parody and comedy movies, and I love action and fantasy such as Maze Runner, Hunger Games, Wednesday, Stranger Things, and Umbrella Academy. Horror movies like IT are cool too.

Multifandom Headcanon: Prison world AU
A/N: Alright, one of my first ideas for a fanfic I ever had which is a prompt I still remember, was a prison AU that is eerily like the Bonnie and Damon prison world arc from TVD. I still feel like I prophesizied this arc. I never let that idea go and one of the webcomics I hope to create (if my new drawing tablet is of good enough quality to work with) is actually me working out this prompt with a set of fantasy characters that eventually will have their own multidimensional shennanigans alongside debauchery caused mayhem. This multifandom headcanon is basically which characters I can see would work well for my webcomic.
-Sasha Braus & Connie Springer from Attack On Titan/Slap On Titan: These two are made for an AU like this. Because my AU requires some serious crazy dumbfucks. Which is why their Slap On Titan counterparts would work even better. Especially Connie's stripper Chihuahua thing. -Lizzie Saltzman from TVDU: Out of all the TVD characters, Lizzie in the prison world is exactly the vibe of my webcomic: she treats the world like her playground and she's just vibing with being imprisoned. Also, I'll never forget her making out with Sebastian when Landon was in the trunk because that is so gonna be my webcomic. -Lily Chen from TSC: Lily's smart but her brain is fried enough that she ends up getting sucked down by idiocy all the same. I can see Lily having a similar rant to my sea sprite OC about a lack of interdimensional maintenance. Whilst Magnus would also seem like a great addition at first, there's something about the pain and tragedy of Magnus that I feel like he would not fair well in the prison dimension in the long run. -Jinx from Arcane: I can imagine Jinx to be counting down the days for Pyromania Day every year with everyone else running and hiding a month in advance because they know Jinx will just burn at least three towns to the ground for fun. -Kiyoshi Teppei from KNB: He is a lovable himbo that's also mentally tough and able to handle a lot. He can handle whatever shit gets thrown at him with grace. An necessary ingredient. -Diego and Lila from The Umbrella Academy: Speaking of lovable himbos that can handle a lot and prison that only triggers further memories of a certain lovable ship. These two would absolutely function well in this place. I'd put Klaus here too, but unfortuntely this world does not have ghosts as my version of the prison dimension has people aging until senior age but instead of dying in their sleep, people just fall into an eternal coma to also keep their souls imprisoned. -Nagisa 'Thugisa' from the Free! parody: This dude already was in prison and he would certainly function in this world too. Absolutely part of the crazy dumbfuck line-up. -Pike from ElfQuest: If there is one guy I would think of to hand out the drugs and booze in his own inn where everyone is staying for the night- Pike would be the number one character who comes to mind. There even was that one volume of when the tribe split and they got attacked by these mosquito-esque creatures that Pike's blood to a certain percentage is made out of alcohol with how often he eats those fucking dreamberries. Also Sasha would certainly be corrupted by Pike. Imagine Sasha with edibles… That is bound to go wrong! -Sokka from ATLA: From being a genius strategist to the comedic relief that managed to get away with tripping on LSD on a literal children's tv show, obviously he has to be part of this cast. And to those of you who don't know, there are two breeds of cacti particularly known for having similar chemical properties to LSD in their juice… My mom actually ones of of those which is how I got curious enough to investigate the cactus juice thing.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Episode 1
Why is the CGI so bad in the bit with Marcus on his rooftop working out. Oof.
The first big telling difference between TUA and TSA is that the Sparrows are, for the most part hanging out together.
Wait... did some poor, unsuspecting woman birth Christopher? Or was he just a small cube? Some things aren't worth thinking about.
Poor Mom 😔
When I first saw the dance sequence before the season dropped I almost thought that it was like a parody thing, but I see how they made it work. I also was wondering why the put so much focus on Jayme's weird spit on Diego's cheek.
Poor Klaus just trying to get Ben to remember him. And then to have Luther land on him 😆
Wait so everyone can understand Christopher?
"This haircut was era appropriate!" Oh my god Diego I love you and your unintentional goofiness.
"Who's your daddy?!" Diego please there are others around 😏 BRB gotta go write a fan fic or 12
Ok but Jayme is the bitch I aspire to be.
Are we gonna find out what happened to Alphonso or is he just... like that? He is hilarious in a really deadpan way
"Which one are you? Scruffy? Fatty? Sad girl? I forget the rest." Oh no the person I hate was funny.
Luther do not trust her!!!
I liked the "The Birds" moment
Oh I forgot the umbrella title thing!!
"It's like here you go, here's your ass" lmao omg
Don't go into the light Mom!!
Lester Pocket, hmm
"Smug... smugness" "Keep working on it big guy, you'll land one... eventually"
Still don't understand why they changed it to Hotel Obsidian instead of Hotel Oblivian. Like why can't they leave it the same as the comic.
Why does Alison think that her kid and ex husband are like... as they were pre-timeline fuckups?
Oh god the contents of their pockets 😆
Oh what's up Ben 🥵
The fact that Marcus thought Viktor was number 1 is making me so happy
Oh so they don't trust Marcus? Interesting 🤔 this Ben is evil, but I still love him.
Diego and Luther with food hanging out of their mouths 🤣 like I don't have siblings, but I feel like I understand siblings so much more watching this show
"Spit it out Boomer!" Oh my god 🤣 Diego lmao
"If you see your doppelganger-" "Kill them" "Sleep with them" and that is the characters of Diego and Klaus in a nutshell
Lila!!!!
lmao noo I do not believe Stan is their son nuh uh no way we gotta get Maury on this stat
What does a robot know of God?
No not the dog!!!!
Oh shit Marcus!
What the fuck?!
Holy shit lmao ok episode 2 let's go!!

Top 5 anime for first timers
If you are considering watching anime for the first time and don’t know where to begin, this blog will give you some options to get your teeth into.
Over the past couple of years, anime has become considerably popular outside of Japan and thanks to streaming services such as Netflix, Crunchyroll and Funimation, it has also become easier for people to access and enjoy. The rise of anime is upon us and people are wondering where to get started with it all.
With the increase in popularity, we have also found that some people are hesitant to watch it, thinking it is simply for kids. But let’s get one thing straight, when it comes to anime, age is not a factor. There are many genres of anime and some are marketed at an older audience. Seinen for example is a subset that is generally targeted at a 18–30+ year old male audience. Josei is the same age group, but towards a female audience.
But if you are looking to start your anime adventure, I wouldn’t put an age to anything. Most of us here at Anime Manga UK are in our thirties and we enjoy shonen (which is intended for a slightly younger audience). In our opinion, genre labels don't matter. The only thing that does matter is that you enjoy it.
There is something for everyone if it's a nail biting thriller, a trip to a fantasyland or even a good laugh.
If you are looking for something to watch with breathtaking storylines, vibrant characters, amazing back stories, fantastic action scenes or simply something that will leave you satisfied - then get on the anime bandwagon. Below are five anime that I would recommend for first timers:
1.   Death Note
Tumblr media
So, the first one on our list is the iconic show Death Note, which is full of twists and turns and is a nice short one with only 37 episodes. It is intelligently written, smartly paced, and consistently engrossing. It follows high schooler Light Yagami who discovers a mysterious notebook that has the power to kill anyone whose name is written in it. With this new power, Light tries to ‘cleanse the world from evil’, and effectively plays God. But hot on his heels is a fantastic detective named ‘L’. If you are looking for something to binge over the weekend, this is the one to put on.
Watch if you enjoy shows like Dexter, Sherlock and Ash Vs Evil Dead.
Watch if you love suspense, supernatural, and psychological thrillers.
2.  Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Tumblr media
If you are looking for adventure and a taste of Shonen, then Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the perfect mix of action, character development and a little bit of the feels. Only 64 episodes, it pulls you in as you go on an adventure with brothers Edward and Alphonse as they try to find the Philosopher’s Stone to restore their bodies. However they aren’t the only ones seeking the stone. Just be aware that there are two Fullmetal Alchemist shows; the first is Fullmetal Alchemist released in 2003, the other is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, released in 2009. I would suggest watching Brotherhood as it follows the source material (manga). Sadly the 2003 version isn’t as good.
Watch if you enjoy shows like Shadow and Bone, Merlin or High Dark Materials.
Watch if you love fantasy, adventure, and action.
3.  One Punch Man
Tumblr media
Now when we first saw the title, we were instantly put off, but this parody show does not follow your usual anime stereotypes. The synopsis of the anime is simple. A superhero who can defeat any opponent with a single punch. It is a hilarious series which is filled with monsters doing stupid things, silly named heroes and full of dialogue that will make you laugh at every corner. If this is your first attempt at the anime genre and love superheroes, I highly recommend watching this show as it is simply brilliant and it might even draw you further into other shows like My Hero Academia or Tiger and Bunny.
Watch if you enjoy shows like The Tick, The Umbrella Academy and The Boys.
Watch if you love comedy, action, and superheroes.
4.  Fruits Basket
Tumblr media
Originally, we were put off by the romance element in this anime, but we're so glad we gave it a chance in the end! Even if you aren’t into soppy stuff, this is just beautifully written from start to finish and you will end up falling in love with all the characters. It is the perfect mixture of supernatural and fantasy with a dash of mystery, romance and drama added in for good measure. The anime follows a recently orphaned girl, who gets caught up in the drama of a strange family who are possessed by the animals of the Chinese zodiac.
Watch if you enjoy shows like  Charmed, A Discovery of Witches and Grimm.
Watch if you love supernatural, romance, and mystery.
5. Naruto
Tumblr media
We weren't going to include Naruto as it has over 700+ episodes (if you include its second part Shippuden). But as this was one of the first shows to get us into anime, we thought it should be included. Naruto is a show that has an amazing storyline which is motivating, inspiring and entertaining. It follows the story of a young kid who wants to have recognition from her peers and to follow his dream to become Hokage (leader of the village). The show is full of amazing characters, adventure, bad-ass fight scenes and has something for everyone.
Watch if you enjoy shows like  Iron Fist, Wu Assassins and Into The Badlands.
Watch if you love martial arts, adventure, and fantasy.
Thanks,
Daydreamer & Moonflower x
