Jody Mills, Jody Mills...I still can't find her brilliant line about how if she had the chance to see her son and husband again, "she'd do anything...and it scares her."

But it's such a GOOD line. If you run across it, send it to me so I can stash it.

I do think this tragic longing of Jody's is something Wayward Daughters could have fleshed out. So many characters in SPN serve as moral signposts, insisting bring back people from the dead is wrong, twisted, etc. Not Jody.

Jody knows her human nature so intimately, it's a lovely facet of her character.

She knows that she's alone, that a church congregation brings her comfort in lieu of having her own family. She pings that dark Kaia was motivated to kill Claire by the messy business of childish loneliness, of clinging to her twin.

Anyway, I think I've come around to Jody. Jody knows her own weaknesses, that longing for her family makes her strong, makes her empathetic. It's not "twisted up," or "wrong." Just human weakness.

And the thing is! Even though Jody has this wisdom under her belt, she knows it might not protect her in a moment of duress! I love that!

Dean vs 8PackMommy

(En media res) Dean is attending an influencer event, attempting to butter up the socialite otherwise known as 8PackMommy. Cas arrives:

When 8PackMommy meets Cas, Dean doesn’t know what he’d been expecting from her, but it certainly wasn’t this blasé,who-cares attitude.

She’s not, like, moved by him at all. Worse, she thinks he’s shabby. Washed up. definitely not influencer material. She doesn’t say it outright, but Dean gets the message loud and clear.

And it’s not like they’re angling to get Cas an in or anything. (He’s here as a journalist.) But bare minimum, objectively, she should view Cas as a diamond in the rough.

Sure, he’s not a good dresser, and maybe he forgets to brush his hair sometimes, but the fact that he doesn’t care about all that (for the most part) is kind of appealing, too. An influencer who specializes in recruitment should be able to recognize baseline appeal.

Dean’s used to Cas impressing people. His mom, Charlie, rando hunters, Men-of-Letter agents, minimum-wage waitresses—you know—people. It sends an unpleasant jolt up his spine that she’s so…lukewarm.

When Cas shuffles over to mock-interview him, Dean wants to reach up and mess with his hair. Dean had finally trained him how to style it after all these years, and he doesn’t bother on the one day he really should. He sticks out like a sore thumb against all these plastic zoomers with airbrushed muscles.

Cas has an oversized bag full of something Dean isn’t in the know about.

“I thought you were here as a journalist.”

Cas whispers, “Rowena thought this was better. It’s…artisan coffee. She even had it, uhm, branded.”

Dean reaches forward and twines his fingers around the gift bag handle, his knuckles brushing against Cas’s fingers. “No shit? Hey, it’s heavy…what do you have in here, rocks?”

“No, Dean. It’s three different blends. “Sam told me ‘home’ was the brand look and feel.”

Sure enough, there are about 12 bundles of carefully designed packages.

“I told Sam to figure something out, but man. Anyone here look homey to you? These kids are hokey voodoo woodoo. We’d be better off pretending to sell kale chips.”

Cas’s eyes grow warmer, and he flicks his eyes down to Dean’s shirt. “You do.”

Whatever words Dean’d been thinking of die on his tongue.

“The idea,” Cas whispers leaning far too close, “is to intrigue 8PackMommy. She sells the concept of ‘being a mom,’ but her social media looks, as you said, very Stepford. This will ‘niggle at her brain,’ according to Rowena.”

“Tch. Well, good luck making that bitch-perfect little Mary Poppins feel insecure.”

Cas pulls out a spreadsheet that Sam had prepared for him. It’s got a listing of all the coffees and some estimates for…travel expenses?

“The pitch isn’t just to give out products, Dean. It’s to fly the family to a company-paid, week-long vacation to use the product and create ‘homey’ content,” he rumbles confidently.

Sounds pretty damn nice. And a sure-fire way to get her isolated to see how she’s connected to her missing husband.

“That near Donna’s place?”

“That’s the idea. There are three cabins for pretense, yes. You’ll be in one of them, of course.”

Cas raises his voice suddenly and pulls out a black book. “I think you’ll be a perfect fit, Mr. Singer. Of course we can talk travel details later.”

8Pack is hovering nearby, like the whiff of money is a homing beacon.

Dean scoffs, playing along. “A week in the friggin’ mountains? Sweet! Y’all aren’t greedy with the amenities!”

Dean sees her flip her hair and smooth her Bohemian skirt before sauntering over. “Well, hello,” she greets, practically elbowing Dean out of the way.

“Hello, Cas says blankly. “We met earlier.”

She looks vaguely embarrassed. “Oh. I’m sorry if I was rude. I tend to get a little frazzled at these events, even with all my experience.”

Sure. Frazzled.

“I’m Carl Karamatov,” Cas says. “Not easy to remember.”

She sways closer to him, then swivels her eyes curiously to the bag Dean is holding. “Artisan coffee? Better be beans.”

“Nothin’ wrong with ground,” Dean says gruffly.

“And who’re you again?” she lilts, bringing a perfectly manicured hand up to a jutting hip.

Dean bristles. He’s already introduced himself to her six times. Without waiting for a response, she wrenches the bag from his hand and shrewdly inspects the merchandise.

“Not to tell you how to run your brand,” her eyes fall judgmentally on Dean before going back to Cas, “But scouting for talent is actually my specialty when I’m not promoting my own brand. You’ve probably heard of it: 8PackMommy? I specialize in cheating The Life so moms everywhere can have it all and look good doing it.”

Cas feints looking surprised. “Your instagram photos don’t do you justice,” he says.

A smile bleeds across her face. “Th-thank you.”

Now, she looks more affected. Ha, Dean thinks triumphantly.

“Anyway, your brand…it looks more upscale than hick, if you catch my drift.” She cuts her eyes at Dean.

Dean grits his teeth.

Hick?

When she finally leaves, it’s with a promise to reach out to Sam or Carl “early next week to discuss the sponsorship opportunity.”

She honestly hadn’t thought Family Coffee Co. was a great fit for her frou-frou (and in Dean’s opinion uppity, sterile, n’ fake) personal brand. But the week-long vacay opportunity had wooed her. And she’d heard of Donna, the unofficial face of their little operation, which had helped lend a lil’ credibility.

“I hope she calls Sam. She’s exhausting to talk to.”

Something about that makes Dean’s guts writhe in triumph.

“Know what? She is. She’s like a bridezilla without the wedding.”

Cas nods but looks like he hasn’t the slightest idea what Dean means. Whatever. He’s always wanted to show Cas Say Yes to The Dress, and there’s definitely some bridezilla episodes that Dean can queue up.

“So. Donna really have 10K followers?”

“It’s over twelve thousand according to Claire and Alex.”

“Jesus. For her posing with donuts.”

“Donuts in a variety of different locales.”

not as offensive as 2P0s open anti colors flying and stanning forward what he did and ripping open 2017, but I gotta say. I'm more than a bit miffed about the deletionism of Wayward's origins that side is trying to push, trying to pitch everything in "are you writing a show episode" or "no involvement."

like... no guys. Wayward was a huge fuckin accomplishment. A lot of people put their hearts in it for years. Made trailers and pitches and took it upstairs and got rejected again and again until Berens picked it up and tried to bring it to life.

It was one of the most beautiful moments of fandom and TPTB engaging, listening, and understanding each other. Hence Berens' heartbroken apology for "failing us" when it was cut last second; almost leaving when his contract rolled and only staying for one thing but--

like. that was big dudes. And it was big in ways in the show I don't think people really understand the ripple of, not thinking of the creatives truly as complex people and how they move and react as much as names assigned to ideas but like.

Don't let them wash that out to make noise just because wincels and antis are scared. Don't do that.

I actually really like the characters in SPN that read like perfectionists cracking under all the perfectionist pressure. I'm thinking mainly of Kevin Tran and Patience Turner. (Kevin less so, because his situation is complicated.) But Patience, in particular has led her life in service of the grand plan for success, not having time for hanging out with friends, the sports she wants to play, or even romantic relationships.

Overachievers and workaholics experience far more work-related stress, anger, anxiety and depression, which can result in physical symptoms like headaches, migraines, G.I. problems and insomnia. Overachieving and anxiety often go hand in hand.

What is overachiever syndrome?

"Overachievers have an underlying fear of failure or a self-worth contingent upon competence," says University of Rochester psychologist Andrew Elliot. "Rather than setting and striving for goals based on a pure desire to achieve, their underlying motivation impels them out into the world to avoid failure."

Did the daughters have an adolescent crisis or like a rebellious phase and how did Alcina deal with it ?

Generally the daughters were a handful and Alcina isn’t going to say otherwise. She did bear three very strong headed daughters and at times she wondered if passing her genes was such a good idea. But this is Alcina, she is warm and affectionate but when the daughter push her far enough, they meet another side of their mother they’d rather not meet a lot. Luckily, her daughters are smart enough not to push that far because mama’s wrath is that last thing they want to evoke and life is much better when their mama is happy with them. Because Alcina is very stern when needed, and her word is law. Whatever she says is going to happen and no amount of tears sway her. So it’s better not that get her to that point and everyone is happy. Though life is not always so perfect. As the daughter got older and were in their teenage years, things did get rocky. Bela didn’t really get into a rebellious phase compared with her sisters. Often, Bela was content being on their mother’s side when it came to a lot of things. She is her mother’s right hand and she took pride in it. Of course, she is only a child still, and at times she got testy and tried to go against her mother. But it doesn’t last long because one look from Alcina is enough to bring her back to the straight and narrow. Bela is a rule follower and she is quickly brought back to sanity when she feels that she has gone too far.

Bela did go through a crisis because she does have a lot on her plate. Between maintaining perfection, managing her sisters (not the easiest task in the world), and being around her mother- the eldest Dimitrescu daughter was prone to breakdowns when things got too much.

Alcina tries to lessen the responsibility, but there are certain things that only Bela is capable of. She knows that the younger two are not as capable or organized as she is. For that, Alcina would remove certain tasks to allow Bela more free time and to just rest. But Bela being who she is, she'd think that her mother sees her less capable/not trusting her and she'd eat at herself for a whole different reason.

There was no winning with Bela. Alcina found that it's best to keep things as they are as Bela's guilt shows and she hates to be the reason for it.

Cassandra- Alcina has always prided herself on being a very patient person who could tolerate a lot from her teenage daughters (but that’s only Bela so it’s fake) Cassandra however proved to be a challenge. Alcina’s second daughter lived off of pushing the limits. While Alcina could give Bela some leeway with some rules, doing so with Cassandra is a big fat no. Cassandra doesn’t listen. She does what she wants when she wants and she thinks if she holds her ground long enough mama is going to relent. Little does she know that her mama can outlast all three sisters without breaking any sweat. Does Cassandra realize this? No. Cassandra also doesn’t take too kindly to hearing ‘no’. Her brain doesn’t process it and she ignores it and does as she pleases. Too bad for her, her mother is not someone who’d let these things go. Unlike her sisters, Cassandra is very sensitive and emotional even when she hides it so well. Alcina is Cassandra’s rock, she is a steady unyielding presence amidst the crashing waves that even she struggles with sometimes. Cassandra is intense and very very stubborn. Her rebellion is a driving force and she is often met with a strong mother who never ever relents. Alcina knows that with Cassandra it’s a waiting game. Rules must be very clear, and consequences even clearer. When her middle daughter gets herself into trouble, she knows exactly what awaits her at the end of that. By far, Cassandra is very challenging because she is always doing the exact opposite of what her mother says. At times, Alcina wondered if she was doing it on purpose to give her mother a hard time or if she was just being an insane teenager. She reasons that it’s the latter, always. Because despite that, Cassandra and she are very close. She reminds herself that her daughter going off the rails for no reason is because she feels secure with her, that no matter how absolutely insane and difficult she is, her mother is always there for her. Alcina also knows that Cassandra is testing her. Her confident strong-willed daughter feels insecure at times. It’s why she pushes and pushes just so that she can confirm that her mother is there. Alcina doesn’t let any of these things slide. She is always there to remind her daughter that she’s there to love her no matter what. Though, no, she is never exempt from punishment because she earned every bit of it. Alcina also knows that Cassandra’s stubbornness and resilience are those of her own. At times, the woman catches herself admiring her daughter before catching herself and remembering that she needs to parent and discipline her wild daughter. Ironically, though it’s no surprise to anyone, Cassandra is the one who ended up grounded the most. She often brings it up, claiming that she’s probably the least favorite because Bela and Daniela didn’t get grounded as much. But Alcina is always there to remind her that it’s her actions that led her to this. And besides, when she’s grounded she spends more time with her mother so the least favorite allegations are not true (she thinks she can use it as a bargaining chip but this doesn’t work with her mother)

Daniela- From a young age, Daniela proved to be independent and confident in herself. Of course, this dependence translated to her thinking she's as old are her sisters and thus should be allowed to do the same things that they do.

Alcina, on her part, often found it hard to deny her youngest anything. Daniela doesn't ask for much, and she's usually soft as a dove.

As she got older, Daniela tried to rebel against the very lax rules that were implemented. But unlike Cassandra, her outbursts are short and she's easily distracted by something else.

Daniela always thought it was unfair. Her sisters only have their mother to deal with, while she has her mother AND Bela. She tries to be like Cassandra, but every time she tries to sneak out she is caught. She is never as stealthy and her plans are never that thoroughly thought out.

This is not to say things were smooth sailing with her. Because like Cassandra, she doesn't take kindly to 'no' and she isn't above throwing a tantrum over things not going her way. But being the youngest, and after Cassandra. Alcina barely bats an eyelash because try as she might, Dani is not as intense as Cassandra and all her attempts at rebellion are tame in comparison (when she was twelve, Cassandra did try to sneak out through the roof of the castle one time using only a rope; she ended up falling and breaking her leg and elbow and while she was at the hospital she had the audacity to ask Alcina if she isn't grounded anymore to which Alcina said 'you're grounded for the next six months' so on top of being broken in several places she managed to extend her punishment this is why Dani is very tame in comparison)

Having some ideas for a "10 years later" valzhang kid fic (featuring trans leo & other fun hcs)

Where a couple years after Leo and Calypso split (early 20s at this point) Athena goes and works with leo in his shop for a few months before giving him a daughter, because she believes that he is one of the smartest minds of his generation (I just KNOW Athena heard all of Leo's plans through out Hoo when he would talk to himself around the Athena Parthenos, and was impressed with his (honestly incredibly smart) strategy to succeed at doing 2 things no human nor god had ever done, then succeeded with both plans all while remaking a metal dragon all in secret, plus Annabeth loves her friend alot so that's a bonus)

So now, at like 23, Leo is the father of a beautiful baby girl named Sophina Esperanza Piper Valdez, and he loves it, he really does! Although he was terrified to ever be a parent, and this certainly wasnt how he planned to ever have kids, he loves his daughter more than anything and is determined to not have her experience anything he had too, and because shes a greek demigod he knows she will taken care of by the camp.

PLUS the seven ADORE Sophina!!

Piper loves her god daughter, and she and leo love to tell her all about Jason knowing he would have loved her so much too! Although it's weird in the beginning, Annabeth really loves and cares for her little sister, but much prefers to be seen as her aunt, (percy is definitely the cool uncle and loves to babysit Sophina along with looking after his own kids)! Hazel couldnt have been more excited to have a neice, just like leo she cant help but see so much of sammy Sophina!

And Frank? He adores Sophina too, he loves seeing Leo excel at being a dad, and he finds it hilarious at how devious this little girl is, how the combo of incredible building/ strategic mind from her godly heritage plus that insane intelligents from her father alone made the now 3 year old an adorable MENACE!!

No normal kiddie pen could ever keep this child contained! And frank would know, he offered to babysit more often than not, whenever he wasnt doing his praetor duties, he was looking after Sophina. And when he wasnt doing that he was often having her and leo over for dinner or lunch.

So much had changed since they where 15/16, living on a flying boat trying to save the world, it had been an entire decade even. And sure they were only mid 20s but that's practically middle age with a demigods track record. Leo and Frank went from hating eachothers guts to having a weird bond, formed of complete and utter trust in the other, while never quite getting rid of their petty bickering, tho this time on far more friendlier jokeing terms, (loving bullying piper called it) plus it helped they admired eachother and their abilities greatly. And now as they were both freshly single, welp dam it sometimes feelings just sorta surprise ya!

Frank and Hazel split the year before Sophina was created, both realising they had different ideas for their futures, and in the aftermath they became even closer friends, so when Frank started realising just how long he had been harbouring feelings for leo, well Hazel was the first one to say she both knew it, and to become his ultimate wing woman.

Leo, who has been single since 19, and hasnt thought about dating again properly since after having his daughter, suddenly having years old feelings from the argo2 reserface after frank starts helping him out more with his little girl, feeling like a percy out of water when he thinks about wanting to get back into dating again, especially when dating involves one of his best friends...

Buttttttt :) when you have the favour of both the godess of love and the godess of marriage and family on your side (abit reluctantly on your end) things end up going great!! Everyone was surprised it hadnt happened sooner and well, it's been going smooth for the last few months at least! Plus Sophina absoulutly loves having Frank around more!!

That is until 6 months later, 3 months before Sophinas 4th birthday, Frank is called away for a quest with his legion, which isnt uncommon, but it's the first one since the two became official, so Leo wont lie if hes a little bit more stressed than usual.

It doesnt help no one has heard from Frank and his quest group in over a week... nor the fact not either of the camps or even the hunters could find them... and definitely no the fact that Leo's cycle is late and has been throwing up for the last few days...

So when Annabeth comes over to help with a project while Percy takes care of Sophina for the day, the first thing she does is tell him to take a pregnancy test or have them call Will, even tho Leo is adamant its probably just a stomach bug.

Of course, 3 positive tests, 2 breakdowns in the arms of Annie, Piper and Hazel, and 1 check up from Will, Leo discovers hes around 6 weeks pregnant and the other father could only be Frank and he is still MIA!!!

Not only that, but Leo, after the war, becoming a double amputee, still grieving Jason with so much regret, and a now no longer single father of an amazing little girl, he was now facing becomg a father AGAIN only this time hes going to actually carry his own child, unlike the first time. Leo was trans, he always knew that if he ever in the place to have a child, he would have to carry them, and at the time he mostly only dated women anyway! But when Athena came along and gave him Sophina, well that was the perfect out to all that. Until now...

Leo doesn't know what to do, he cant make any decisions about the baby without Frank, and by now it's going on 2 weeks without any word. Hazel has been staying with him and Sophina when she hasnt been out doing search missions with Arion, the two have been sharing the stress.

Its week 2 and a half, 4 weeks from when the original quest started, when the questing group finally returns, found by Rayna and Hazel, mostly badly injured and being carried by Frank who had transformed himself into (all be it a very hurt) Elphant.

According to what they said the group had somehow fallen into some of the uncollapsed tunnels of the labyrinth which messed with people being able to find them.

But that doesnt matter, Frank is back and Leo is a flood of emotions because he just spent the last 3 weeks worrying if the guy he was inlove with was dead or dying, and the last week and a half thinking he was going to be a single dad AGAIN

But Frank, big dumb lovable Frank, is here, hes alive, and as he returns from the elephant to normal with the kindest most apologetic smile as he walks over to Leo before being directed to the med tent. He holds Leo close as he says hes sorry for disappearing over and over again.

So of course Leo, in all his blazing adhd glory, not exactly chooses, more word vomits the thing that he had been desperate to tell Frank since he first found out.

So in sitcom style dramatics the moment frank hears the words "I'm pregnant" from Leo's mouth he immediately passes out.

Que some shenanigans, but it ends with Frank being so excited, he already loved Leo, (not that either had said it out loud yet), he would be thrilled to have Sophina as his step daughter, and to to be an actual dad himself, for them to have a child and give Sophina a little sibling?? For them to be a weird chaotic family (oh gods they're going to be a family, they're going to need to find a bigger place to live all together, would Leo even want to move to New Rome? Wait would Leo want to even move in with HIM?? Panic for another time)
