#yuuei high school

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it. Yuuei may be the one school that gives their kids just a tad bit more free will.
Already talked about it in another post, but the dorm rooms are individually unique. Some even were decorated that would make you think "that cannot be allowed" like Koda having a pet or Aoyama's abundance of mirrors.
Then there's the uniform bit.
Some of the students don't wear the standard shoes like Midoriya and Todoroki. Some don't wear the ties or jackets. Some wear accessories and makeup and I don't think having dyed hair is even a concern given in-universe, it's very common for people to have outlandish hair colors and styles due to quirks.
Compare Yuuei to other schools and you'll see some differences.
Shiketsu students wear their hats with their hero costumes and Ketsubutsu students' looked very uniformed when they first appeared. Same shirt worn the same way and I don't recall anyone wearing their bottoms different from their peers. Even the anime-only schools had everyone dressed the same way. The Seijin (ninja) and Seiai (all girls) schools.
Visually, it supposed to help differentiate the schools for the Provisional License Exam arc, but let's think deeper than that.
Who is the principal of Yuuei? Nezu.
Why does that matter? His backstory! He was experimented on, caged. I doubt he would want anyone to feel that way, so while he does have rules, as long as the students follow those rules they are free to express themselves.

I love your work so much! The way you write headcanons is honestly the best I’ve seen on tumblr lol
Would you be able to write headcanons of Iida, Midoriya, and Bakugo with a nervous and introverted GN Reader who’s a foreign exchange student struggling to learn and speak Japanese properly, like to the point they have to constantly repeat themselves thousands of times slowly for anyone to understand and wanting to learn more? Reader’s got the basics down obviously but ya know, they’ve gotta expand their knowledge on bigger more complex words, slang, etc. Maybe add in a sprinkle of reader being shamed by their peers for their lack of knowledge on Japanese.
[ Thank you so much for being a fan of my work. Truth be told, I'm not even sure if I write headcanons the "correct" way, but who cares! If it works, it works, right? Anywho, I enjoy this idea very much. Learning a new language is hard. Although I always joke I speak three languages which are Swearing, Sarcasm, and English. Notice how English is the last one, haha. Anyways, I hope you enjoy these headcanons! ]
Tumblr media
It wasn't easy being a foreign exchange student, but as an inspiring hero in the making, you wanted to enroll in one of the best hero training schools and that was none other than Yuuei High. There was a small problem though, you were nervous and a little anti-social, introverted as some may say, and this made communicating that much more difficult.
You were learning Japanese slowly, and as such, you struggled to engage in conversation with others who often snubbed you. Until you met Tenya who initially noticed your struggle with comprehending his language. "Pardon, perhaps I could be of assistance?" He patiently encouraged you to practice pronunciation and grammar. He even went as far as to tutor you and provide you with structured lessons and resources.
He remained gentle and encouraging through your struggles with learning Japanese and offered kind words and praise for the progress you have made. You appreciated the comforting environment he provided and felt as though you could speak to him without fear of judgment.
"Perhaps these will assist you in your attempts at learning various Japanese slang terms, and such," he suggested, placing various books in front of you. While somewhat overwhelming, Tenya suggested that learning the slang terms might help ease your anxiety. He also continued to ensure that making mistakes is essential to the learning process.
While most were respectful of your learning process, there were a few select students who chose to shame you or insult you whenever you attempted to engage in conversation. Tenya, however, was quick to intervene and address the issue firmly as was his duty as Class President and often lectured them on the importance of empathy, understanding, and respecting you as a foreign exchange student.
Tenya continued to celebrate your achievements, especially when he noticed your confidence in the Japanese language rising. "I am quite proud of the resilience and persistence you displayed in overcoming the linguistic barriers you've faced!" Of course, you knew you wouldn't have accomplished what you did without his support and guidance, and hoped he would always be your friend.
Tumblr media
Izuku immediately notices your struggles with speaking Japanese, but being the person that he is, tries to approach to help. Although his shyness got the best of him and despite patiently listening and trying to make sense of your words, his face burns red the entire time.
"I c-could try to h-help you...if you w-want, I mean...I've never tutored a-anyone before but um..." He knows that learning a new language takes time and patience, both qualities he possessed and as an aspiring hero, he couldn't just abandon someone he knew needed help.
Since English was one of the courses provided at Yuuei, Izuku decided to make his self-initiated tutoring sessions with you more fair by allowing you to teach him some phrases either in your native tongue or English in hopes that it would provide a supporting and engaging atmosphere and show you that you were not the only one struggling with a foreign language.
Although Izuku had the fierce heart of a hero, he normally avoided starting conflicts with other students, but this went out the door when he witnessed others shaming you for your language struggles. "H-hey! S-stop that, they're still l-learning and..." He'd try to keep a stern demeanor, and while he knew that defending you was the right thing to do, usually he'd drag you away before things escalated.
On more than one occasion, Izuku would stay up with you, engaging in late-night and casual conversation in Japanese to help improve your conversational and social skills. Uraraka and Tenya would always volunteer to help as well and provide pointers to you if needed.
"I m-mean even All Might, v-visited the U-United States and he k-knows some foreign l-language skills so I thought maybe...t-this would help you too." He thought incorporating hero-related terms into your lessons would help give your language goals a more heroic feeling thus giving you the motivation to conquer them.
Tumblr media
A growl rumbled in his throat. "Shut the hell up already!" He snapped, making you stumble away from him. He hated it when you constantly repeated yourself. Hell, even he could admit he wasn't the most patient individual, and hearing you repeat word after word, phrase after phrase was irritating.
Despite his annoyance, and the fact that he was one of the few that tended to put you down because of the language barrier between you and him. He wasn't so ignorant as to ignore the determination and effort you put into learning Japanese and frankly, he was kind of impressed. Of course, he'd never admit that.
"That's not how you say that dumbass!" He snapped one day after hearing you, yet again, struggle with a certain phrase when engaging in conversation with someone else and he wasn't hesitant about correcting you as well as listing off other phrases he knew you had trouble with, unintentionally becoming your personal tutor in the process.
You had a lot of textbooks and practice books regarding the Japanese language and when Katsuki looked at them, he was severely disappointed. The books in question were too proper and lacked useful slang that permeated the Japanese language or at least how he spoke it. So, he took the time to teach you said slang terms, but you weren't too sure you'd make use of them.
"Soooo Baku bro! I heard you're giving Y/n language lessons!" Eijirou exclaimed one day, making Katsuki growl in response. "Yeah, what's it like teaching a foreigner anyway?" Kaminari chirped in, not realizing how insensitive he sounded. "Shut the hell up dumbasses!" Katsuki snapped. "That...idiot is putting in more effort than either of you with your damn schoolwork!" Hell, he should know. He had tutored them on occasion as well.
Although you assumed you wouldn't use the slang terms Katsuki taught you, there came a day when you found yourself in an argument with another hero student who happened to be using some foul terms to describe you and your home country. You ended up using every slang term Katsuki had taught you in response and when he learned about this, he felt oddly proud of you.

The Good Citizen
An AU where Izuku is just an ordinary boy. He never meets All Might and has his application for Yuuei's entrance exam rejected because of his quirkless status. He still wants to be a hero, but then again, he's just a normal kid with a mom who works two jobs, and since he failed to get into his dream school, he still has to get into another one, he doesn't have time. to go to the gym or learn to fight, or whatever. And yet, he wants to be a hero, so he grabs a pair of old skates and a stick. And he sneaks out the window at night, intending to be a vigilante.
But like a normal boy, he's a bit of a coward, so when he encounters his first crime, instead of getting involved, he calls the police. He calls the police and hides and is delighted when a police car arrives a few minutes later and does its job. And then he repeats that, goes out, finds a crime and calls the police. And repeat. And the next time, he identifies himself as "Good Citizen" when the person on the line recognizes his voice. And the name sticks. And Izuku keeps it, thinking of it as a way to keep his identity safe. But one day, 'The Good Citizen' calls the police on a group of men beating up a guy. And next he stops a man from harassing a girl.
The mens who beat the guy are part of a powerfull gang and their high-rankers discovers that the person who reported them was the same person who has been making several reports. The old man who harassed the girl was an important member of the HPSC, whose arrest creates a huge scandal
With this he successfully angers the villains and the HPSC all at once. Next week there's a bounty on 'snitch's head. And an arrest warrant for the vigilante who is 'an enemy in the making for the society of heroes'.
Then a race begins, villains and heroes mobilizing to kill/arrest one (1) well-intentioned green bean.
And, out of nowhere, this all becomes Aizawa Fucking Shota's problem.

What are your thoughts about the pacing of the series, because I personally think that everything has been rushed to absolute hell.
The only real timeskip we get is the 10-11 months at the very beginning when Izuku is working on improving his physical condition to receive OFA.
After that, it's like all of the major events are spaced at like days or weeks apart, and I just don't like it. You're telling me all of these major events happened in their FIRST YEAR at UA alone? Yeah, I'm not buying it at all.
I really don't get it either, to be honest.
The beginning was a little weird to me, considering we're going from middle to high school very quickly with very little in between the time skips to get us settled in. And once Izuku gets into Yuuei, it's just one plot point after the next, after the next, after the next - it's exhausting to read through. I have to admit, I'm a manga reader through and through, and I'll defend reading the original all day every day, but sometimes I wish we had more filler or at least more chill arcs in between whatever the next calamity is going to be.
I continue to refuse to believe that ALL OF THIS happened within the first year at Yuuei. Besides being the single worst year in the school's history for staff and students alike, there's just too much at play here that needs to go down. They should've broken it down into the cast's entire three years at Yuuei to make it more believable. Give AFO more time to get Shigaraki ready, give Shigaraki more time to perfect his control and his techniques, give the League more time to become a more feared villain group - and give the kids more time to BREATHE. They're literally kids, they shouldn't have to deal with all of this in their first year alone. Can you imagine how AWESOME it would be if we had to see third-year Izuku going toe-to-toe with Shigaraki? How awesome it would be if we got to see them all matured, having trained themselves up, and going all out in a civil war against the villains' side. But we won't get that, because - and this is my opinion - everyone is too impatient to get the ball rolling. I don't think Horikoshi and the team want to wait until 1-A's third year for a climactic battle of ideals. And that's honestly kind of disappointing.
It's too much even for the audience. Many times in the manga I had to stop reading for a while because I needed time to process what the hell just happened before diving into the next problem at hand.
I don't know. You've got a good point in that the pacing is off, even for a shonen manga. I know it's taboo to even suggest, but I really do wish there was more manga filler to at the very least give readers time to process each arc. I know that's probably what the manga breaks are for, but I jumped into the manga after MHA started airing as an anime. It's too much.

Hi there!! I have an idea for you! How would Aizawa react to a young villain(who is in the LoV and at the same age as his students) being an evil genius? The rest is up to you but she is very skilled and very smart and she hurts him. Also his quirk doesn't work on her because she has a similar quirk which nullify others' quirks. Have a good day/night!

A/N: Hi, dears! Thanks for requesting and I know it had taken a lot for me to write this but school sucks... I hope that's for your liking and good readings!
After I wrote this, I realized that this included both requests...
Also, the reader is like 18-19 here and has a quirk called " Manipulation" which helps the owner to manipulate and control quirks and objects etc.

“No. 13, Do the evacuation procedure! And try calling the school!”
“ Kaminari, you too! Try contacting Yuuei with your quirk!”
At his teacher’s stern voice, Kaminari let out a shocked squeak while the others were too busy with being worried about being in a potential danger and the wellbeing of their teachers. Seeing Aizawa prepare his binding cloth and put his googles, Midoriya walked to his teacher.
“Sensei!? Are you gonna fight them alone!?”
And then his worried muttering began. Without a care, Aizawa put his googles on and jumped down from the high steps after putting all of his hopes of protecting his students to the 13th hero.
The villains in front of him all laughed at him jumping into the action, thinking that he wasn’t that strong and thus made their first big mistake.
“Who the hell’s that!?”
“Wasn’t there supposed to be only no.13 and All Might!?”
“Wait… IT WON’T SHOOT!!”
Behind the screen, a young girl who has been watching this little introduction part with bored eyes while polishing her nails turned her head at the voice of a familiar tone and widened her eyes upon seeing who was there. Then she started to laugh slowly and spinned her chair gleefully but her happiness didn’t last long when she heard the villain’s stupid talk. She looked at the screen menacingly and snarled at the idiots, while slamming her hand and opening the mic.
“Ya idiots!! Are you that stupid to not realize he erases your quirks?! I didn’t tell Shigaraki to collect a bunch of middle-schoolers here!”
At their patron screaming at them, they all shut their eyes close and held their ears in pain because of her quirks affecting them. But a certain one who had a mutant quirk didn’t seem to care at all and contiued to walk towards their new target.
“Hehe… Can he even erase mutant-shapes like me!?”
His sentence was cut short upon his face meeting with the black haired teacher’s fist and he stumbled backwards, eventualy passing out.  Shigaraki, who was behind the whole plan, scratched his neck all the while thinking about the next step.
“God, pro heroes are such a pain. If we were just any group, we wouldn’t stand a chance but…”
“… we have someone that they would never have. A genius. A true villain with great potential and hatred…”
“… someone whose hopes were crushed by the society we want to destroy…”
While Shigaraki was occupied with thinking, the one who she mentioned about gat up from her seat and started to talk with Kurogiri.
“Kurogiri-san… I believe that the underground hero underestimates us…”
“We can’t allow that.”
And when Kurogiri’s black mist covered the whole place and blocked their ways out, all the students backed out with fear written on their eyes while 13 was also shocked at the sudden appearance before her eyes. Before they would attack and protect each other, the one before them started to talk and explain the reason they were there.
When you saw two spiked haired boy attack Kurogiri, you jumped from your seat and started to gather your items while Shigaraki who was like your bratty brother stopped you with the four of his fingers, holding your wrist carefully. You looked at him questioningly with a rised eyebrow and he pointed at the screen and then at you, commanding you to take care of yourself. You smirked at him teasingly and nodded your head, telling Kurogiri to warp you into the USJ.
At the meantime, Kurogiri was threatining the young students while they were trying to stand still because ot the wind that happened as a result of his mist. But then a soft and teasing voice interrupted him, making him calm down slightly.
“Kurogiri~~ Don’t scare the poor things to death! They are not the ones who we came for!”
“I’m sorry, Miss (Y/N).”
The young woman walked slowly at the students and 13 but a shocking truth dawned on them…
They couldn’t move any part of their body.
Then, they started to freak out since they were miserable without using their bodies and the young girl looked at them confused but smiled soon and swinged her arm around one of the students which made him growl in response.
“Oh dear, you must be wondering what’s going on! To sum it up, It’s my guirk Manipulation. I can control everything and anything living or non-living… including Quirks…”
“ And right now, I’m controlling every cell and muscle in your bodies alongside your quirks to immobilize you all. Actually I know quite a lot of things about your quirks. Not gonna lie, every one of you has great quirks but you’re all blinded by the flashy and highlighted colors of the hero society. Poor you, never thought of why the villains are the way they are… “
“I see that you wanna talk, ponytail so… go on.”
When you finished your talking and looked at the girl who was now able to move her mouth, she sighed in relief but that didn’t cover the fact that she was still scared and thinking about a way out and eventually, she looked at you straight in the eye and talked.
“ You are villains just because you want to destroy what you don’t have. You’re abominations of our society and you’d never win and you know this too. That’s why you are here…”
When she stopped talking midsentence to search for your reaction and you started to pout sadly which made a few of them think that a part of you still held regret but immediately, you smiled widely while looking at the blue haired male out of the corner of your eye.
“By the way Iida-kun, you might want to hurry up or else I’ll probably kill or at lest go near killing your dear sensei~~"
As soon as he heard his name come out of your mouth, Iida widened his eyes and slowly turned to look at you with fear in his eyes, the same fear as his friends held.
You waved your hand towards the entrance and smiled softly at him and he slowly moved to the entrance and then took a run for the Yuuei. You turned to the students with a cold look on your face and dusted yourself off.
“Well, it was nice to talk with y’all but unfortuanetly I have other jobs to do so… have fun with your training!”
With the wave of your hand Kurogiri opened his portals again and sent the students to the different parts of the training ground. Then, he came to stand beside you to look down at the events happening and looked at you with his static yellow eyes.
“ Are you going to face with Eraserhead, Miss?”
You slowly looked at him with big eyes and looked down at the man fighting against your brother and tsked at his immaturity, cracking your knuckles and plopped down on the ground.
“Not yet… His favourite one is about to come and I don’t want to deal with his tantrums.”
Tumblr media
Seeing your previous sensei all beaten up and bloodied was a sight you never tought you would see. Seeing him so stubborn and dead-set on protecting the students made you let out an annoyed "tch", wondering why he hadn't done the same for you.
Why hadn't he come for you...
The day when all your trust for the heroes vanished, was the day none of them ever came for you and your friend. You had watched her die, choking on her blood with spikes shooting out of body, with a huge debris over your legs that made you unable to move...
If it wasn't for Kurogiri and your master, you would be dead just like her.
But you didn't, and ever since that day... Only your master's voice rang inside your mind, blocking your friend's sweet face and voice.
"Get revenge..."
And now, standing before his beaten body by the Nomu after Shigaraki's taunting of the next heroes, creating an invisible shield that prevented others from entering, you crouched before him. The yells of "sensei!" could be heard even inside the bubble that they obviously couldn't break, and the sounds of that Bakugo guy exploding and ultimately failing made you laugh crazily, even going as far as making you cry.
Or maybe, you finally lost the connection between your brain and emotions after all that you endured.
Aizawa couldn't focus on one thing, his brain was too smushed for that. His sight was blurry with tints of red and he was ready to die for good. For a middle-aged man, he saw and experienced enough blood-shed and broken bones to know that his end was near.
That is, if the others wouldn't arrive any time soon.
But even in the middle of his death, he could always remember those eyes. The eyes that once held a bright future in them, the eyes that had the ambitions of a young girl who only wanted to save humans...
The eyes of hif favourite student, the one he saw as a daughter... The dull eyes of the once young girl whose dream was to be a hero...
"Y/N..." his weak whisper made you stop in the middle of your laugh and look down at him, not hearing your real name for a long time. You tilted your head confused and brought his head closer by yanking on his bloodied hair, not understanding where all those voices were coming from.
"You have potential to be more..."
" You can do better like this, here... Try it..."
"Don't forget to eat your meals, kid..."
"Forget about them, your new home is here!"
"I'm proud of you, Y/N... of the hero you will be one day."
You shook your head, heart trying to make you... remember? What was there to remember anyway? The time when they left? Or the times you had to go through all those experiments..?
How your master... never cared about you and tousled you from side to side..?
Or how you never trully mattered... to anyone..?
"Why do you do this... Making me question myself when my loyalty is-"
"If you were sure... of it, you-you wouldn't question it... I thought I taught you... that..." tears gathered at the corner of Aizawa's eyes, both from the physcial and emotional damage done to his body. He remembered that day, when he was still new to being teacher. He hated how lousy the kids were, how they didn't cate about the consquences, how they didn't think before they acted...
Except you.
You always trained and was aware of the extent of your powers. You could read the environment even in times of crisis, always knowing where to stand and exactly when to attack. You were kind, supportive, loving and hardworking...
All the reasons why he loved you more than any students he had at that time.
And that was the reason why he almost killed everyone for stopping him from getting to you. He never forgave them, and always pressured them to search for you and your friend. They only told him that she was dead and there was no sign of you...
And it broke his heart. Maybe if only he didn't listen to them, looked for you more or tried harder... You wouldn't be where you were right now.
You grew up to be an amazing young girl with the sharpest mind he had ever seen... You would have been an amazing hero, inspiring others and saving lives just as you always imagined with him watching you accomplish all of your dreams with a proud smile...
But here you two were.
Student against teacher...
Villain against hero...
"You taught me a lot... For example never to trust anyone fully, I just never thought it would be you whom I shouldn't trust with."
"Y/N... I tried to find you... I tried to fight but the Hero Commission-"
"If a hero is bound by the law made by people with zero care for human life... Then, they are no hero..."
To that, he didn't have an answer to give. He saw how your heart was broken and he let out a shuddering breath, accepting his fate...
Dying at the hands of his student.
But he reopened his eyes at feeling no pain and looked at you with eyes wide with shock. He no longer felt pain, and his skull was a lot better, all the blood disappearing as if nothing happened.
You... healed him?
He watched your figure slowly getting closer to the purple and black portal with a pounding heart. If what he thought was true...
Then you weren't completely gone into that evil side.
Before you got out of the bubble you created, he caught your hand thightly and begged you with tears in his eyes. "Y/N, I know you're not completely gone! I can help you!"
"You can't and won't." You said harshly and got your hand out of his grip, fearing yourmaster would see the dilemma you were in. "What makes you think-"
"Because if you were... You wouldn't have healed me. Look, I know I am at wrong, that I didn't do anything but this time, even if I have to fight with you, for you.... I will not give up on you this time!"
And while you left them there, healthy and well unknowing to the League, Aizawa swore that he heard you call out his name with a sad look over your shoulders.
"You can't help me, Sensei... I'm in too deep."
And he swore to himself that even if it got him killed, he would save you...
Knowing that you could read minds.
"I will save you from them... I will do it, no matter what!"
And smiling sadly at his words while walking in your room under the heavy stares of the others in the team, you slid down on the door and sat down with crossed legs.
"Goodbye sensei... I hope that you won't do that, for your own good..."
With only the memory of you two holding his binding scarf and him letting you use it precisely, watching with a rare happy smile.

new mha oc: Kagami Wakana
Tumblr media
(Credits to this picrew)
Quirk: Sound Blast. When using her quirk, she can create and control sounds from across great distances. This is a close-to-wide range quirk, used for a wide variety of control. When refined, she has been able to dip into supersonic sounds and use them to delicately move smaller objects around. Her family is distantly related to Yamada Hizashi's, better known as the Voice Hero: Present Mic.
She goes to Yuuei High School in the Musutafu Prefecture of Japan. Wakana came out to her family as trans when she was ten, transitioning socially around the same time. It took a while for her family to come around to the idea, but two months later they began treating her as their daughter and helped her choose a name that fit her.
She loves to cause a little bit of chaos, but because she's usually very quiet and studious, no one ever cathcews. Wakana doesn't always interact with many people, preferring to keep to herself, but has found herself a small group of friends that keep her occupied. When she can, she likes to hang out with Yaomomo and Iida from Class 1-A. In addition, she talks to Present Mic a lot, as her distant relative used to help her control her Quirk as she grew.
Her name comes from 鏡 (Kagami, meaning mirror and coming from the kanji for shadow (影) and to look at (見)) and 和奏 (wa-kana, meaning harmony-peace and play music respectively).

Masterpost

Warnings: mentions of blood; mentions of near death
Summary:  Iyashi Akari has been hiding a rare quirk almost all her life, but when an absolute idiot decides to play in traffic, she can’t just stand by and watch.
Tumblr media
I never expected my day to turn out like this. I never expected to wake up in the hospital with the principal of a school I'd only ever dreamt of attending and some guy who looked like he'd rather be in bed than here, standing over my bed talking to my incredibly stressed-out mother. My name is Iyashi Akari, and until recently, I was just an average junior high student.
My day started out normally; I woke up on time, had an uneventful day at school, and started walking to the train station the same way I always did. What was different, was the group of boys from the school nearby. They pushed and shoved each other and laughed so loudly and obnoxiously that I had to put my headphones in to avoid listening to them, and not even 5 minutes later, I could hear them screaming over my music! I irritatedly removed my earbuds to remind them they should respect the people around them more when I realized it wasn't even them screaming. In fact, they seemed to be frozen, staring intensely at the intersection in front of them. And when I turned, I saw him.
Someone, likely one of the kids from the group next to me judging by his uniform, had stepped into traffic and gotten hit by a truck. He was bleeding so heavily that the blood was already pooling around him. I could hear people screaming for an ambulance and for the rest of the traffic to stop. And without thinking, I dropped my phone, backpack, and everything I was holding and ran to the boy bleeding out in the middle of the road. I placed my hands on his unmoving chest and activated my quirk, emitting a blinding bright light. And when the light faded, the last thing I saw was the slow movement of his chest; the last thing I felt was the stickiness of blood between my fingers, and then everything went black.

The next time I awoke, I saw a white ceiling and bright lights above me. I could feel someone gripping my hand a bit too tightly. And I heard two voices I didn't recognize and one I did. Slowly looking to my left, I saw my mother sitting beside me, holding my hand, looking more stressed and worried than I'd ever seen her.
"Mom?" I spoke, my throat dry and raspy.
My mother gripped my hand even tighter.
"You're awake. How do you feel?" she asked, searching my face.
I chose not to answer her, instead gradually sitting up, holding my hand to my head in pain. Only to be met with a man in a suit with disheveled beige hair and dark eyes who looked like he hadn't slept in years and a white rat — if you could call him that— Standing at the edge of my hospital bed. I looked at my mother in confusion.
My mother cleared her throat, "This is—"
"My name is Nezu," the rat, Nezu, cut my mother off, "I'm the principal of Yuuei, and this is Yokumiru Mera. He works with the hero public safety commission." He gestured to the man standing next to him.
"We're here because we saw the viral video of you saving that young man a couple of days ago," Yokumiru spoke sleepily. "We believe that due to the rarity of your quirk, you may be a good fit to become a student at Yuuei and begin training to become a hero."
I stared blankly at him momentarily before speaking, "What do you mean days ago? And what video?"
"You had been unconscious for about two days." Mom spoke softly as she pulled out her phone, "And as for the video…." She showed me her phone screen, and I watched the young boy I saved carelessly walk into the street. Whoever was holding the phone turned just as a loud crash sounded. After a moment of viewing the sidewalk, the camera was turned back just as a blinding light consumed the surrounding area. The light died down just in time to see me collapse in the street.
I looked at my mother in shock, "And that got posted online… and did you say it went viral? Is that boy ok?" I said in a rush.
"He's fine, thanks to you," Nezu replied.
"And let me get this straight, now you want to invite me to join Yuuei and train to be a hero? I don't have a quirk particularly well suited for heroing. I've never been taught how to fight either, so I'd be much further behind than my classmates, and besides, I've heard that the practical exam for the hero course at Yuuei is notoriously difficult. I don't see how I'd manage to pass it." I rambled.
"Well, you wouldn't be training the same way as the rest of your classmates, for one thing. You'd mostly be training under the healing hero Recovery Girl. Along with getting combat training from your other teachers. I won't say that it's going to be easy for you by any means, but it'll be worth it in the end." Nezu explained.
"And," Yokumiru yawned, "the commission and the board in charge of Yuuei agreed to bypass the practical exams for you, so as long as you pass the written exam -- which, given your grade history, I don't doubt you that you will-- you'll be officially accepted."
"We were told that Akari should hide her quirk," Mom started, unsure, "because of the likelihood that villains would target her. But now you expect us to willingly sign her up for a school that publicly displays its students and their quirks for the world to see. All that will do is ensure that villains will come for her!"
Nezu just smiled sadly. "I'm afraid in reality it’s the contrary. Due to the video of her healing the young man going viral, now there's nothing you or your daughter can do to stop villains from coming after her. If she enrolls in Yuuei, she will at the least be trained to defend herself and anyone else who may get caught up in the crossfire."
My mother took a sharp breath before whispering, "I see."
Nezu turned back to me, "So Akari, after hearing all we had to say, what do you think? Will you attend Yuuei, study under Recovery Girl, and train to become a hero?"
I never thought I'd become anything of significance. I was taught not to use my quirk, to hide away. In fact, I'm sure that if my mother had her way, I wouldn't have saved that kid. I'd have waited for the ambulance like everyone else... I'd have pretended not to have the ability to save him. I certainly wouldn’t become a pro hero. She'd have me do something more "practical" like her. But…I've always wanted to help people, to take away their pain and give them a sense of relief. So to be given this opportunity? A chance to do what I've always dreamt of? Under Recovery girl of all people?? I couldn't pass this up if I tried.
I let my mother's hand go, stared Nezu directly in the eyes, and spoke with as much determination as I could muster, "I'll do it."
Nezu smiled, and Yokumiru sighed, "Now that that's out of the way," he began, already turning to leave, "I suppose we ought to go and allow the doctors to do their jobs. We'll make sure to send you all of the relevant details. All you need to do is pass the written exam next month, and you'll be good to go."
"I look forward to seeing you at my school," Nezu spoke as he walked out the door.
I looked at my mother, “Where’s dad?”
"He had to go to the clinic today. He’ll be here later to take us home… but Akari, you know you don't have to do this," she said lowly. "I'm sure they'll understand if you choose not to go through with it. We can call them back and tell them you thought about it some more."
I shook my head, "I want to do this, Mom. I want to use my quirk and help save people."
Before she could respond (and likely try to convince me to change my mind), there was a soft knock at the door, and in came the Doctor.
"It's nice to see you awake, Miss Iyashi. I'm Doctor Hiyama, and I suppose I should be saying thank you," he said, "thanks to you and your quirk, the young man you helped is very much alive."
I rubbed the back of my neck sheepishly, "I doubt it's all because of me. I mean, the paramedics and the doctors in the hospital must've fixed what I couldn't."
"No, the young man was uninjured by the time the paramedics got to him. We sent him home the same day. And given how extensive his injuries seem in the video..." he stopped himself before continuing, "As for you, you were brought in to check your vitals and ensure everything was alright. After an examination, we concluded that your quirk had simply drained your energy, and your body just needed fluids and rest. You should be good to go home by the end of the day today should no other symptoms arise."
"Thank you, Doctor." my mother spoke, nodding.
“You’re more than welcome,” Doctor Hiyama replied
The moment the doctor had left the room, Mom turned to face me again.
“Akari, you shouldn’t have–”  she started before another knock at the door interrupted her. I (thankful for the interruption) called out for whoever was knocking to come in. The kid I saved, who, now that I’m getting a good look at him –not covered in blood or almost dead– doesn’t look much younger than me, walked in and immediately bowed.
“Excuse me, I’m sorry to bother you,” he quickly spoke, “ but my name is Orokana Kodomo, and I need to thank you for saving my life. If you hadn’t healed me when you did, I would’ve died. So thank you!”
“Really, there’s no need to thank me,” I responded, “I just did what anyone with my quirk would do. I didn’t even think about it.”
“Still! If it weren’t for you, I’d be dead. I’m forever in your debt!” he said, straightening himself so he stood at his full height.
“No need for that! All I want in return is for you to avoid stepping in front of moving vehicles from now on.” I stated quickly, waving my hand in front of me.
“Heh, yeah. I think I’ve had enough of that to last me the rest of my life.” He mumbled sheepishly. “I shouldn’t take up any more of your time. Thank you again for everything.”
⠠⠁⠝⠼⠙ ⠼⠊⠍ ⠼⠛⠕⠼⠊⠝⠼⠛ ⠞⠕ ⠼⠃⠼⠑ ⠼⠁ ⠼⠓⠼⠑⠗⠕
Later that day, I was discharged from the hospital and sent home. When we got in my father’s car, Mom finally said what she’d been trying to say since I woke up this morning.
“Akari,” she started, “ You shouldn’t have rushed in to heal that boy like that. You should’ve let the paramedics do their job. All you did was place yourself in unnecessary danger. What would you have done if, the moment that video was posted, villains came for you? If you were attacked right this instant and kidnapped. Would they be gentle as they force you to use your quirk whenever they thought it fit? I-”
“I can’t sit there and watch someone die just to protect myself!”
“It’s possible that he would’ve survived regardless! The paramedics–”
“Would’ve been too late! I’m sorry for worrying you, Mom, really I am. But I could never live with myself if I had stood there and watched him die!” I said firmly.
My father, who’d remained quiet as he drove, finally spoke, “Honey, you couldn’t have honestly expected her to not do anything in that situation.“
My mother sat back in her seat in defeat. “Of course not, but… I don’t want her to endanger herself just to save someone she doesn’t even know. What if that had been a villain in disguise waiting for someone with a healing quirk to come save them so they could kidnap them!”
Dad sighed exasperatedly. “See, now you’re going too far. Everything is going to work out fine. Hey, maybe you’ll be making her merch someday!”
Mom didn’t respond.
⠠⠚⠥⠎⠞ ⠽⠕⠥ ⠺⠼⠁⠞⠼⠉⠼⠓ ⠠⠊⠇⠇ ⠼⠃⠼⠑ ⠎⠞⠗⠕⠝⠼⠛
The following month was honestly a whirlwind. It felt like everyone in Japan had seen that video. Everywhere I went, I could hear people whispering about me. Suddenly, I became one of the popular kids at school instead of the one no one spoke to unless they had to. I spent most of my free time outside of school studying and looking for excuses to use my quirk. After some testing, I realized it’s much easier for me to heal someone when I eat healthily and sleep at least 8 hours a night. I won’t lie and say I enjoyed switching all my sweets for healthier alternatives. Mom has been trying to pretend like she’s OK with everything, but I can tell she’s still upset about the idea of me becoming a hero. I guess I’ll just have to show her everything will be fine in time.
When it finally came time to take the written exam, I was more nervous than I had ever been. Even afterward, I felt like I couldn’t remember a single answer. It was like everything I had ever been taught was just gone. I was almost certain that when my letter from Yuuei finally arrived, it would just be them telling me I must’ve been the stupidest 14-year-old they’d ever seen and I shouldn’t be able to function. In fact, I was so sure that I had failed that when my father came home holding the letter, I couldn’t even feel a little excited. Muttering a small thank you, I took the letter out of his hands, entered my room, and locked the door behind me. I slowly peeled the seal off and watched in surprise as a small metal disk fell out and hit the floor. A video started projecting just as I leaned down to pick it up.
“Hello! I am here as a projection!” a voice loudly said.
“All Might?” I questioned as I slowly sat on the floor, staring at his face intently.
“ First of all, you passed the written exam with flying colors! Great job! You didn’t get a single question wrong! And on top of that, you showed a tremendous amount of heroism when you rushed to save that boy, so allow me to be the first, Iyashi Akari, to welcome you to Yuuei! I can’t wait to be a part of your journey to becoming a pro!”
The video shut off and left me sitting on my bedroom floor in stunned silence. I looked inside the envelope I was still holding and pulled out the letter inside. I quietly read through it and heard a knock at my door.
“Akari?” I heard my father say, “Have you opened it yet? What’d it say?”
I stood up, opened the door, and held my acceptance letter up for my father.
“I got in. I’m going to Yuuei.”

Witch Izuku
After not getting his quirk, and with the horribleness of discrimination, quirkless statistics all over the Internet, and middle school, Izuku embraced the darkness since there was no light for him
Inko is a great mom and does whatever she can to support her son, even selling all of his All Might merch to buy some new furniture for his room that fit his tastes
His choice of dress is gender neutral, often wearing corsets, ankle length skirts dresses, black Sun hats, and tops with lace sleeves
He started ignoring his classmates when he was eleven. He reads enough hateful news articles, that their words don’t sting anymore. And he began wearing padding under his uniform when they try to beat him up
Any spider lilies they put on his desk, he cuts the stem a bit and places the flower in his hair
Izuku just spends his days reading pre-quirk era books and conversing with spiders he finds on the roof of the school
One day, after a particularly tough day at school where his teacher decided to punish him for no reason, he had his lunch thrown in the toilet, his favorite book burned, and one of his spider friends killed right in front of him, Izuku goes home early that day, crying for the first time in years
While walking home, a black butterfly blocks his path and seems to beckon him to follow it… To an abandoned shop. It looks like an old curio store, and then the butterfly leads him to an old book, just sitting on a counter
Even though the shop appears to be abandoned, Izuku leaves a few yen on the counter before taking the book and when he leaves… It disappears. Ooo~
Upon returning home, Izuku discovers that he bought a spellboook. While he doesn’t really believe in magic, he decides to try on out and casts a spell on his teacher
The next day at school, when Izuku’s teacher is once again reprimanding him for some stupid reason, a colony of bats suddenly fly in through the window and attack him
That’s gotta be a coincidence, so he tries out another spell on a few students. This one is to make them suffer a great loss
Cue one losing his girlfriend, the other losing the hair he took such great pride in, and the other’s old nose growing back in place of the one from cosmetic surgery
Izuku: Okay. Magic is real.
Now Izuku’s a witch, and he’s going to have some fun all throughout middle school with no one being none the wiser
Inko knows he’s been using magic to get back at everyone, and has no problem with it. It’s about time those assholes got what was coming to them
Their last day of junior high, Izuku is once again ignoring the idiots who surround him when the teacher goes on about the hero course, and by that time, he’s got his ear buds in
Bitch teacher: Oh, Midoriya! Didn’t you want to go to Yuuei?
Izuku: Maybe, maybe not, but that was not your information to share, you quirkist bitch. Now, pick your jaw up off the floor and kindly explain to your demon students that quirk usage is forbidden on school property.
He gets sent to the principal’s office, but not before casting a spell to make his teacher’s hair catch on fire and for his principal’s clothes to restrict him
Izuku goes home with a bright smile on his face… Then he runs into the sludge monster. Using his powers, he turns the monster back into his human form, and the man, Akatani Mika is eternally grateful
When All Might arrives, he only sees a young goth boy and his “uncle”, and takes off to look for the sludge monster
Mika: Kid, I-I owe you my life.
Izuku: I accept tablespoons of blood only.
Mika: … What?
Izuku: What? I need more ingredients. It’s hard to get blood these days.
Mika becomes sort of a father figure over the months, often helps around the house, buys groceries, and even buys Izuku some books
Oh, and Izuku is going for Yuuei, the hero course, since society needs actual competent heroes
Using the hundreds of spells he memorized, he creates a black hole to suck up only what he wants it to- The robots piece by piece
When he comes across Uraraka, he just touches the debris, and it crumbles into bits, then he fucking possesses the Zero Pointer and has it destroy the other robots
Eraserhead/Vlad King: … I WANT HIM!
And after a brutal combat between the teachers, Izuku gets into 1-A where he becomes fast friends with Fumikage and Dark Shadow once the former senses his inner darkness
Fumikage: We shall revel in the dark, my black hearted brother.
Izuku: I look forward to it, bringer of despair.
Katsuki: Fuck! Now there’s two of them!
Izuku gets through the quirk assessment tests pretty easily since he’s spent the past couple of months with Mika going to the gym and building up his strength and endurance
He ends up in fifth, and is pleased to see that the grape got last… BUT ‘TWAS ALL A RUSE!
Izuku, Fumikage, and Dark Shadow spend most of their time together and even attract two new members to their little cult, Reiko Yanagi and Hitoshi Shinsou
It takes a few weeks before Izuku feels he can trust them enough to show him his spell book, AKA, his “quirk”, and they still accept him
After looking through the rules, Izuku sees there’s nothing about dying his uniform jacket black… So he does
Let’s see, what else? Oh yeah. Izuku’s hero costume makes him look like a necromancer, he teleports the villains back to wherever it was that they came from and puts a protective seal over the USJ, he comes in second at the Sports Festival, gets only ten work study from the heroes who weren’t little punk bitches, his hero name is Salem, he does his work study with the Witch Hero, Crimson, and the training camp goes wrong because Izuku forgot to put a seal over it
Katsuki gets kidnapped and now the goth squad has gotta save his ass, incognito
They manage to get him back without getting caught before the heroes can even get there, and Aizawa- who saw everything- promises not to say anything. Goths (plus an emo) gotta stick together
Cue Dorms!
Izuku’s room is similar to Fumikage’s, completely submerged in darkness with a Victorian charm to it. He, Yanagi, Shinsou, Fumikage, and Dark Shadow hold weekly seances there and convince the spirits to mess around with Katsuki and All Might (Who didn’t retire, by the way and still hasn’t passed down One For All)
Quirk Provisional License exam, the Goth Squad all pass, Katsuki and Shouto don’t, on with the show!
Instead of leaving Eri at the hands of that bastard, Izuku uses a spell to freeze Overhaul, drag him back to Crimson’s agency, and then use a truth spell to force him to give over any information he has
They infiltrate his base, arrest everyone, and Eri gets adopted by the Yamazawas
Eri clings to Izuku like a lifeline since he was the one who saved her. He doesn’t mind one bit and even takes her to a seance to meet one of his ghost friends
So now, Eri is a baby bat goth

Call Me Alpha - part 4
Tumblr media
synopsis: a new friend and Alpha finds their way into your life, and some not so platonic feelings bloom between you two. meanwhile, bakugou is trying to get your attention, albeit in an unorthodox way.
warnings: reader is aggressive, bakugou makes a dumb, and Mei Hatsume makes and appearance. Also, reader passes out
author notes: from this point on, you guys might hate me... but I coundlt help myself. Also a reminder for those who haven't checked out the announcement I made, I will be going on a short hiatus after this, I need to focus Mt attention and energy on packing for camping! I will be doing a double post when I return; so that's part 5&6!
Hc's | Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5
Tumblr media
Your summer went on without a hitch after the incident. Your suspicions were confirmed when you received no message from Bakugou. You had gathered your footage from the test, edited out the portions that made you look bad, and sent it off, along with an improved glove, the blueprints and report detailing your thesis and conclusions.
You waited a painstaking two weeks afterwards before your letter of admission came. You got in! Now you had to worry about how you would mask and alter your second gender so people believed you were a beta. And you also had to worry about Bakugou being at the same school.
You knew from forums and social media posts that the support classes and Hero classes frequently worked together as a learning opportunity. You hoped you didn't get paired with him as his support person. You'd caused him enough harm and stress and as it stood, he didn't need anymore at your hands.
You worked on a specialized necklace that would mask your scent glands and emit beta pheromones instead of omega ones. That, plus your suppressants, would be enough to hopefully get you through high-school relatively undetected, seeing as betas were not a cause for concern in the eyes of the other two second genders.
You sat the written entrance exam, and passed with flying colours, being put into the top class in the support program. At orientation, a few days before school actually started, you met a nice alpha named Hatsume, and quickly befriended her. You two talked about designs, how you would each make different support items for the top heroes, and of course, the best snack to munch on while working or designing.
"Cheetos and poki are the way to go," she stated oh so confidently.
"I think you mean Mango milk tea and chips. And gummy bears, the most important part of any study snack!" She nodded in agreement at the last part.
As the orientation droned on, you passed a few other classes touring the campus. More than you'd like to admit, you searched for Bakugous face amongst the crowds. You knew from how much he boasted about his aspirations, that he would be attending Yuuei. You never told him that you intend to apply as well. Not seeing it as of any import when you were discussing the equipment you made for him. And he never questioned it either.
As your tour group made its way to the Cafeteria, you could feel prickling at the back of your neck, like someone was watching you. As soon as you were in line for food, you felt a firm hand land on your shoulder, pulling you out of line and into a more secluded alcove.
Red eyes framed by thick and frowning eyebrows met yours; "The hell are you doing here?"
You knew it, he hated you, and obviously, he was about to beat you up, armed with a- a letter?
"Orientation. What else does it look like?" Your response was almost automated for how quickly you snipped back, admittedly with more bite than you anticipated.
"You never told me you were going to Yuuei." A fact.
"You never asked." Another fact.
"So you knew I was would be attending, and, in the day that you harassed me about your stupid quirk thing, didn't think to mention about what it was for?" He raised a pretty good point.
"Why would I? As far as I was concerned, you were only willing to try out the glove because it benefitted you. So why would I go out of my way to inform you of what school I was attending?" Your words hurt him, for some odd reason.
"So what, after you blew my ears to shit, you didn't bother to come check up on me?" The accusatory tone he was using only served to enrage your previous annoyance.
"First of all, you were the one who actually made the explosion," he made to respond, but you held up a hand. "Secondly, did you not get my note? Or my soup? I told you on the note to reach out if you were okay. You didn't, so I figured you weren't inclined to ever want to see me again. I don't blame you, but jeez, you don't have to come yell at me 3 months after it happened."
"I told you that your notes were stupid! Goddammit, your so stupid, omega." That last bit slipped out. He didn't even know what possessed him, but it was definitely the wrong move.
You only saw red. How dare he! Who was he to assume your second gender? Who was he to call you such an infantilising and demeaning word. All of the minute bits of progress you had been making, tossed out the window.
"What the hell did you just call me?! An omega? How dare you! I am not that disgusting, weak minded second gender!" Your words shocked him. Weak? Disgusting? He took it to heart. But you continued;
"If you ever call me that again, hell, if you ever speak to me, come near me, or even look at me, I'll gut you." And with that, you stormed off. You were no longer interested in getting food, all you wanted to do was go home. You managed to find your group leader, and inform them of your sudden illness, stating that you needed to go home. Your flushed cheeks and sweat from earlier added the needed effect to convince them. They sent you home early, but not before assigning a portfolio of work.
Meanwhile, Bakugou stood there, holding a little note of thanks, bewildered at your sudden hostile display. He knew that you didn't like omegas before, always having preferred to be around alphas and betas if presented, but knowing that you hated them? When you yourself were one? That was a whole other level of screwy.
His father was an omega. Your words hit him harder than he'd ever admit. He didn't know how long he'd been standing there until one of his groupmates; the annoyingly upbeat one with the overly spiked hair; which he aptly dubbed 'shity hair' came running over to tell him they were continuing on with the tour.
He was in a daze for the rest of the day. You, his long time crush, his fated omega, hated themselves to the point of suppressing their second gender. He knew you were an omega. He could smell it on you, despite the obvious layering of perfume and suppressants. Once a person gets a taste of their fated ones scent, they can forever smell it afterwards. And after being bonded and mated, they be able to smell and sense any change in their emotions from a mile away.
He knew you were his, all he needed to do was convince you.
+×+×+×+×
By the time the anger over what Bakugou called you had dissipated, you were settling into your new dorm; Canary Hall. The oldest campus dorms, and the only ones at that. They were built for the engineering support students after one too many villains had decided to blackmail students into building weapons for unlawful use. So to ensure safety and supervision, Canary Hall wad built.
Canary Hall, or just The Hall , had been recently renovated. The room you were was decently sized, fitting a double bed, desk, work table (yes those two are separate things) and plenty of floor space. And with only a max capacity of 20 students per class, every 2 dorm rooms shared a bathroom. Pleasantly enough, your bath-roomie was Hastume. Your dorms, since it was on the end, had a wrap around balcony, instead of a normal one. So you had plenty of room for a little garden; peonies, wildflower box, maybe some herbs for cooking with, sunflowers... the list went on.
You had just finished setting up your room, when Hatsume knocked on your door. Dinner was ready. Mr. Donoma had ordered some take away for the first night, and was intent on getting chore charts set up. You hoped to get the cooking as a permanent assignment.
The two of you made polite conversation as you made your way down, the smell of pizza hitting your nose when you arrived on the first floor.
Cheese, veggie and pepperoni. Hatsume choose cheese, while you decided on veggie, two slices each. Once everyone was seated and had their food, you all went over the chore list, deciding who was going to do what, and how the rotation would be. You ended up with a shared cooking job, Nika, a silver haired boy with a metal quirk got the other half. And you would be cleaning the halls and common area with Denjiro every Saturday.
As the night dragged on, some of the students left for an early night, while others stayed to clean up or converse with each other. You chose to go for a quick snack run with Hatsume. You both told the teacher where you were going; a convenience store just a block away. Only 15 minutes round trip. Curfew was in an hour, so you both left.
"What should we get? I'm thinking some sodas and ramen packets. You?"
"Brain food. Gummy bears, chips and definitely soda. Maybe a magazine or two as well?" Hatsume gave a disinterested look at this. "How about gum?" She suggested.
"Gum is good, though we can't chew it in class." "True, but we can in the dorms. Don't you think better when you're chewing? I know I do. I chew gum so I won't get fat from all of the junk I would be eating." She giggled at this. By this time, you'd reached the store.
The ramen kiosk at the back of the store was more tantalizing than you both had anticipated, so after scrounging the store for your snacks and magazines, you caved and got some ramen. Hatsume got shrimp, while your picked the spicy chicken curry.
"I don't understand how people like spicy food," her nose curled a little at the thought of eating it. "It's an acquired taste." You stated simply. She just shrugged and slurped up her noodles.
You two ate in comfortable silence. By the time you were done, you had about 25 minutes till curfew. So the two of you sprinted back to the dorms, racing each other.
Hatsume got there first, but only by a second. She was out of breath, slumped over and panting heavily. The alpha looked up to see if you were okay, and noted a sweeter smell from you earlier.
"Do you sweat sweet stuff or something?" You looked up at her puzzled. "No," you wheezed out. "Why?" "Cause you smell sweet, like weird blueberry jam and honey. I didn't know betas could produce such sweet scents, so I figured it was your sweat."
Her words froze you. Clearly, it was either you lied so well, or came clean to get her off your case. You choose the unexpected decision;
"Well, I think your crazy. Are you sure you're not just smelling things from running through the fields just now?" You hoped your mention of the wildflower field close to the dorms was enough to shut her up.
"No. I think you smell sweeter than earlier." She pushed off of the wall she was slumped on, spinning you from where stood in front on her around and pinning you to it. She sniffed at your scent glands. And sniffed again. And kind off just, held you there. You were too stunned to do anything other than let her. After some long seconds of awkwardness, she let go.
"Weird. Coulda thought you smelled like an omega. Must just be my imagination." And with this, she wandered back inside, leaving you to crumple into a ball of anxiety. What just happened?! What the hell?
You suddenly felt hot all over. You tried to calm down the ever growing anxiety, but found yourself hyperventilating instead of breathing slower. You could feel yourself stating to get lightheaded, the world was spinning faster and faster. You put your head between your legs, but it was too late. Your vision got splotchy, and you could see a figure rushing towards you. You passed out right as they face came into view.

"So this is the only place he can rest up without worrying too much, right?"
RIGHT!! YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT!
Yuuei is Izuku's place. As I said in my other post, he would not stay long anywhere because it's not a place of comfort for him. With how emotionally, mentally and physically broken he is, he needs to be at a place with the people he knows that gives him comfort.
He's familiar with Yuuei.
And as the lady pointed out, if he went to Shiketsu or any other place, people would have done the same thing anyways. In fact, he wouldn't get been able to get in at all because no one would have spoken up for him like Uraraka and everyone else who actually knows Midoriya would have.
What exactly would have been the point?
Midoriya needs to rest up and still better his skills with the other quirks of OFA and the only people who can help him with that is the people who are already at Yuuei. And I'm sure Midoriya wouldn't want people to move for him anyways. He would argue for others to stay at Yuuei, he go to Shiketsu, he's not welcome there and it's back to square one.
No one needs that.
As for "Well couldn't another shelter be built"?
No. Not at that time.
Nezu and Shiketsu were prepared because of what happened back in season 1 and in season 3. A protection plan was already set and constructed by this time because they had the time.
Another place (Troy) hadn't been built until the next course of action was needed to go onward. Until they knew a little bit more because of the traitor reveal. They got some more information and a connection. Therefore, able to construct another place while also coming up with the next battle plan.
Before the traitor reveal, they had to play it safe and keep people close. If they had built more shelters, that means it would have been harder to protect people, including Midoriya.
Everything happened so suddenly, they wouldn't have thought to construct another shelter for Midoriya because who knew all of this would happen?
The one person who probably would is dead!

Hey I hope it’s not something that’s already been requested before but could I request headcanons of Mei, Mirio and/or Toshinori after a breakup where they would still have to be around their ex partner (because of school or work) and they’re still pining over each over :(((
Thank you !
[ Honestly, I can't recall if it has because this blog is about 3 years old. But even if it was, kudos to you for choosing characters that need some nice secondary love. I hope you enjoy these headcanons dear anon. ]
Tumblr media
It still hurt, but Mei was used to wearing a poker face. Why the two of you broke up didn't make sense. She gave up her love of invention for you or rather spent less time with her 'babies' because of you. Now that you two were separated, she felt lost. She also couldn't focus with you just a few feet from her every day at school and that made her angry.
"So, how's your latest baby?" She finally managed to speak to you after a few weeks and as awkward as the butterflies in her stomach were, she felt relieved when you replied. Although she didn't care about your invention, she cared about your voice and being close to you again.
Naturally, she was determined to keep you to herself despite the breakup. This meant she was also willing to let certain inventions go awry whenever she witnessed someone else flirt with you. When this happened, she'd smile. "Oops, guess this baby needs more work!" She knew you knew it was intentional, but you never did anything about it.
You didn't realize how much you missed her until you found her goggles in your bedroom. When you returned them to her, a tremble coursed through your body when her fingertips brushed against yours. The urge to hold her hand was strong, but you walked away before she could say a word.
You'd toss and turn at night, unable to sleep knowing she was in the room next to yours. You missed lying on her chest and feeling the warmth of her body against yours. You also missed how her hand stroked through your hair until you fell asleep.
A few times you awkwardly found each other in the forest near Yuuei High. The feeling of nostalgia overcame you when Mei reminded you of a few funny stories from your time together. The memories made you laugh and yet wonder if it was too late to rekindle what you had.
Tumblr media
He couldn't smile for a week after the breakup. Although it was unlike him, he avoided you which you immediately noticed as did your shared friends Nejire and Tamaki and sadly, this only added to the pain of your broken heart.
To think you'd break up with him because he was quirkless now was definitely a hit on his ego. However, in your defense, you thought it was better to give him time to sort his life out and not worry about you. But you realized you were wrong and regretted what you had done.
Nejire and Tamaki took it upon themselves to find out why the two of you broke up. While Nejire was disappointed that you broke up with Mirio because you thought it'd help him, Tamaki managed to get Mirio to agree to stop avoiding you.
The first time the two of you talked since the breakup was when you were assigned to address one of the first-year classes and there was an awkward tension in the air when Mirio actually greeted you with, "Oh, hey there sunshine," which was something he called you when you were together and it was then you realized how much you missed that nickname.
It was a nightmare to focus in class. To make matters worse his desk was not too far from yours, and the fact you could feel his stare, or at least thought you did made your stomach twist into so many knots that you weren't sure if you were still falling in love with him or continuing to feel that regret.
"I don't know how I'll do it, but I'm sure I'll win their heart back someday Tamaki! And I won't stop trying! After all, don't you think Y/n and I belong together?" Of course, he'd first have to figure out a way to get his quirk back and when he did, he'd convince you that no matter what happened, he'd never need space from you.
Tumblr media
He thought breaking up with you was the only way to protect you. Heroes were particularly known for avoiding relationships because of their busy schedules and the fear that their loved ones would become the target of an attack. But he quickly realized he was wrong. While he tried to convince you to get back together, you suggested focusing on your teaching careers.
You never thought you were the jealous type. However, when Ashido made a comment about Nemuri and Toshinori on a date, even if it was in good humor and Nemuri shared that old men weren't her thing, it made you furious, and without thinking you lectured her on inappropriate jokes. The strangest thing was you knew Toshinori was free to do as he pleased but hated the idea of him being with anyone else.
Everyone including the students and your fellow teachers noticed the awkward tension in the room whenever you and Toshinori were near each other. "I can't take this anymore!" Hizashi screamed one day. "What is with you two kit kats!?" he demanded. "I'm afraid things have been a bit strange between us since the breakup," Toshinori confessed after you walked out of the room.
"Hm, I see so that's the problem, isn't it? Most men never know what they want, and they drive the people they hurt to do things like this," Nemuri stated as she entangled her fingers in your hair. You were currently lying on her lap, intoxicated. While she didn't blame you for drinking after you confessed how much the breakup hurt you, she was concerned about both your and Toshinori's well-being.
"I know it's not much but, I remember how much you like flowers so…" You knew he was attempting to make a conversation, but your anger got the best of you and without thinking, you used your quirk to destroy the flowers in front of him and while he was shocked by your reaction. It also reminded him of that fierce nature you held and why he was so attracted to you in the first place.
"No, nothing's wrong sir!" he insisted although he knew it wasn't wise to try and fool Principal Nezu so with a sigh, he glanced down with a determined look on his face. "There's not much I can do at this point. I know that Y/n and I may still have feelings for each other, and I don't blame them for acting the way they are. But...I'd like to find a way to become their everything again, not just their hero."

so im thinking abt the definite seedy underground of the hero indistry, and not the part where it inevitably brings about villains and gives heroes near total immunity from consequences
im thinking abt hero schools in particular, how theyre like private schools, and much like private schools and colleges, there are variances in quality. if yuuei can be compared to tokyo university and harvard, then there are definitely hero mills the way there are degree mills. where, yes, when you graduate, you may technically be a hero, but you dont have the skills or experience to survive the profession
these hero mills exist solely to make money off of the students' hopes and dreams of becoming heroes, and they take in all of the students that the bigger, better hero schools dont accept. most students dont graduate because they cant pass the officially certified hero examinations, and they end up deeply in debt with no hero license to make money to get out of the debt. they have to drop out, and the hero mills hire debt collecting agencies that live ob the edge of legality, whose employees are legal loan sharks under a different name
now imagine if izuku, hopeful and quirkless, never ran into all might and tried to get into yuuei, but simply couldnt cut it because, lets be real, for all of his hopes and dreams, izuku had never had combat training or really exercised for the purpose of building muscles before he met all might. To put it nicely, he was idealistic. to put it honestly, he was incredibly naive.
a naive, hopeful izuku gets into a hero mill school that inko can only barely afford because if they can turn out a quirkless hero, then thats some good publicity, if they cant, well, he was quirkless anyway, and nobody expected him to succeed
izuku cuts it. he does well, better than most of his classmates because he has more motivation than god and he has to prove himself, prove that someone quirkless can be a hero
he does not get his license, for all his training, its a trashy school with a high mortality rate, and the hpsc tells him in no uncertain terms that they cannot trust a quirkless hero trained in a low quality school on the field, that he will die and it would be better to choose another career
he has wasted four years of his life on a nonexistent hero license, his family is mired in debt and its all his fault. the debt collectors start to come knocking.
what can he do?

Hihihi, lovebird!!! Hope you had a beautiful day 💗💗💗
I did end up scrolling through my personal archives for this and going back to my bnha roots just for you <3 This concept was a fave of mine, and while I didn't write an actual fic for it, I did write a plot summary-type thing along with some bullet points. Hope you enjoy a little Momojirou!
Tumblr media
It’s a rite of passage for the Yaoyorozu family once a child turns fifteen to head a successful infiltration mission - the higher the stakes, the more respect the young Yaoyorozu will earn from their future subordinates. Knowing this, Yaoyorozu Momo sets her sights on infiltrating Yuuei High School - one of the most revered and protected institutions in Japan - for the duration of three full years. Momo’s quite literally been preparing for this for her entire life.
But what happens when Momo realizes she could be more than just a means to an end, the latest blossom of a tree watered in blood? What about when she’s surrounded by loving people her own age for the first time in her life, and it clicks that she’s allowed to want things for herself? That maybe, just maybe, she can save lives rather than take them? Rule with love and not fear?
As their first year goes on, both Momo and Kyoka grow to love their place within their class and genuinely care for their classmates. Feelings like these are dangerous, they know. But at least it can help make their act more convincing.
Kyoka notices that Momo’s acting less and less every day. They know each other’s tells, they have since childhood, and Momo isn’t just pretending to play Hero anymore.

Polaris: Izuocha Reincarnation AU by T.A.M. Mulberry
I miss these two interacting so much so that's why I created a full blown AU where they interact more than once and perhaps more than a thousand times too...
SYNOPSIS: Ochako Uraraka had a dream. To see the smiles of her parents and let them live an easy life. If it meant going to a far off university to become an engineer, she would do it. But when she fell asleep, all she had were nightmares of a different reality that continued on after the summer it started. Soon, she met Izuku Midoriya, an awkward but ambitious boy that lived just across her apartment. While most would only look his way when he did something outrageous, there was a warmth to his eyes that drew her in. In time, she developed feelings for him. It terrified her. The idea that a boy might get in the way of her goals. However, as her friendship with him deepens, she realizes that there’s an underlying reason to her hesitance.

CHAPTER 1. The Building Blocks
It was Ochako’s last year in high school and to say it was the most difficult one yet was an understatement. With cram school, academics and part time jobs that never stuck — she had to triple her efforts just to balance everything before college.
Graduation was fast approaching. Luckily, she passed third year even if it meant skipping meals and burning the midnight oil to pass every project, every test.
Every test. The thought resounded in her head. It’s been a few weeks since she took the entrance exam for Yuuei. Impatiently, she waited for the results. She was sure of most of the answers and she had dedicated sleepless nights to making sure she aced it but what if she didn’t? It was one of the best schools in the country and the acceptance rate was so low.
“Announcement!” The speaker sounded. “I will be listing a few names and whoever is called must proceed to the principal’s office.”
“Ooh, do you think this is about Yuuei, Ochako?” Her seatmate whispered to her.
“I hope so…” Ochako smiled hopefully.
As the names were called, Ochako couldn’t help but let out a wobbly smile in anticipation.
“Ochako Uraraka.”
She stood up a little too quickly and tripped on her bag but that didn’t matter. “That’s me!”
"Good luck, Ocha!" Her friend whispered to her and gave an encouraging wave.
As she speed walked to the principal’s office, she could feel her heart beating out of her chest. Ochako wasn’t usually nervous or antsy about anything but this is her future and if she failed, what would happen then?
She took a deep breath and opened the sliding door to the principal’s office.
The rest of the students called from her year were already there.
“Good afternoon, sir!” Ochako greeted him with a bow. “Why’d you call me in?”
"Please line up with the others first, Ms. Uraraka," said her principal and she nodded, a little flustered by her own eagerness.
"Alright. So…" he flipped over a few documents. She didn't know how much longer she could wait.
“Congratulations, everyone,” said the principal. “You are the students from our school with the privilege of passing Shizuoka University’s Yuuei.” The principal then continued to explain all the reminders and announcements to keep in mind before the next school year started.
Ochako’s mind just blacked out for a second.
“What?!” She yelled in disbelief and scurried to the balding man like a crab desperate for confirmation, her voice dropped an octave. “Do you really mean it?!”
“Yes. I wouldn’t have called you in here if you didn’t get accepted,” he said simply, a little frightened by her eagerness.
The rest of the students were too busy congratulating themselves and each other to notice Ochako's determined face at first, but it wasn't hard to miss.
"Hey, look at the Uraraka girl," a blond boy whispered to one of his friends. "You don't see her looking like that everyday. I thought she was kinda airheaded."
"You should see her in math class," one of her classmates whispered back. “She’s way more focused than she looks.”
Ochako couldn’t control her giddiness. She vigorously shook the principal’s hand and was about to make a beeline for the door before she was stopped in her tracks.
"Wait, Ms. Uraraka. There’s one more thing." The principal called out from the end of the office.
"Oh, sure thing, sir," she replied, a little flustered after her emotional high had died down.
"I must say, it’s very impressive that you managed to land a scholarship for UA. That is no easy feat. You are the only one in our school that managed to.”
“Thank you, sir,” she bowed and noticed that the other students around her were murmuring.
“Told you,” said one of the girls.
The principal stood up and clapped his hands for everyone to pay attention. “Graduation is fast approaching, everyone. I’m sure that everyone must be tired from all the rehearsals. You all have bright futures ahead with this new opportunity. You are all dismissed now.”
As they headed out of the principal’s office, she heard the students talking among themselves again.
“Hey, why don’t we go to karaoke after this?”
“Let’s get some yakiniku?”
“Uraraka, do you want to come with us?”
Ochako was caught off guard by the invitation.  It has been awhile since she has gone out. She loved being around people. It’s not like she didn’t have friends. She realized just how much she neglected her social life in order to juggle her goals for passing the entrance exam.
Nevertheless, she wanted to celebrate this achievement with her parents first. Everything she has been doing, every sacrifice she has made was for them after all.
“I’m sorry guys, but I want to spend the night with my parents. I mean I passed UA and got a scholarship! I’ve gotta let them know about it,” she said with a small smile.
“Okay, suit yourself. See ya around,” one of the girls waved at her.
When it seemed like she was the only person in the hallway, she took a deep breath. Inhaled and exhaled, as she walked the path with no other people.
***
Ochako opened the door to the tiny apartment flat she lived in with her parents to find that she was the first one there. As she waited for them to come home, she opened the door to her room to look at her dioramas. Her parents weren't able to afford the materials so she made do with whatever was lying around and learned how to create her own mini buildings.
There was a small dome-like structure that was created from using a worn out metal bowl that she dinked and drew metallic markings on. It was an imitation of the planetarium that Ochako’s parents took her to just once when she was a little girl. Sure, it wasn’t perfect but soon, she’d be able to make models she’d be proud of. To see stars and planets moving like that for the first time wowed her.
It was like a real life dreamscape.
Dreaming was one of Ochako’s favorite things about life. When life was too hectic and heavy to bear, all she had to do was fall asleep and imagine a paradise. Some nights, she could blast off into space and land on the stars. Other nights, she was able to see the most beautiful parts of Japan. On some nights, she'd be in Mochi Land eating all the flavors she wanted but couldn't find.
Yet as cheesy as it sounded, her favorite dream was to see her parents without bags under their eyes or a fake smile to reassure her that they were okay. She could vividly imagine it when she closed her eyes. A stress free life in old age as they laid on a sandy beach somewhere in Hawaii. To see others live a happy life. To see others smiling. That’s all Ochako wanted.
Ochako liked to think of herself as a lot more grounded than she let on though. Those were all fantasies at the end of the day. But now — now she has a new path.
Embarrassingly enough, she still had second thoughts on whether she wanted to go or not even after she was accepted. It was far away too, a 4 hour train ride from her hometown to Shizuoka.
Going meant that she'd be alone. It meant that she would have to spend extra money on an apartment and meals. It meant she had to leave her parents behind without anyone to help them out. If something happened, she’d be helpless.
Click!
Snapped out of her reverie, she heard the keys twist on the doorknob and she quickly skipped out of her room to greet them.
"Mom! Dad!" She exclaimed and went in for a hug for both of them. “I got into UA!”
“Congratulations, Ochako!” said her dad but she noticed that his voice sounded tired.
“I knew you could do it, Ocha…” her mom sounded the same too, and she let go.
"Um," she hesitated and thought, maybe something happened. "How has work been?"
"It's nothing, really, Ochako. Really.”
“Are you sure there’s nothing wrong, dad?” Ochako paused as she made the realization. It wasn’t the first time it happened and it really did take a toll on the company.  “Did one of the clients cancel again?”
Her mom nodded at her and her heart sank.
“It’s nothing that we can’t fix.” Both of them smiled at her silently but she noticed that it didn't seem to reach their eyes. It made her own voice falter.
“Is there anything that I can do to help though? If there's anything that needs to be done, I can do it," she said earnestly as she enumerated with her fingers. "The laundry, the dishes, dinner, grocery. Anything.”
"Ochako. You don’t have to do that," her mom replied with a small smile. It was then that Ochako noticed that her eye bags were darker than before.
"I know you mean well, sweetheart," her dad sighed, as he ruffled her hair. "But like I said before, you're spreading yourself too thin. You don’t have to burden yourself with our problems on top of yours."
Ochako pursed her lips and chose not to say anything. Was she spreading herself too thin? Was everything that she was doing too much? She sure didn’t see it that way but under the rare warning gaze of her dad, she didn’t want to protest anymore about it.
“Okay, dad…” She said quietly. Her eyes lost their glimmer and he bent down to hold her by the shoulders.
“Hey, hey. It’s okay, Ochako. After all, you’re not the only one who has a surprise.”
“Huh?” Ochako lifted her head and looked at him curiously.
“We get to go to the planetarium again after a street food fest!” Her dad held up three tickets and her face brightened.
Did Ochako hear that right? Not only will she be able to eat street food again after so long but she’ll also be able to see the planetarium again. It felt like a dream come true and she rushed to hug the two of them once again.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” You guys are the best…” All you care about is money.
The gratitude in her was genuine but there was a feeling of uneasiness in her stomach. She shook it off.
***
“Actually, Ochako—we already received a phone call from the principal to talk about how you got accepted to UA under a scholarship,” her dad explained, as they rode the bus to the city town square. “Even before he announced it to the students.”
“He really did that?” Ochako exclaimed with amusement.
“Yeah, that’s why we were able to secure tickets for the planetarium event happening tonight.”
“Can I at least use my own money from my part time job?” Ochako asked hopefully.
“Don’t worry, Ochako. We have it covered.” her dad said as he patted her head.
“If you say so…” She shrugged light-heartedly yet Ochako couldn’t shake off the guilt. Her parents had more important things to deal with yet they made more sacrifices for this trip to the town square. She was grateful, she always will be—but she didn’t understand why her parents didn’t allow her to help them.
She snapped out of her thoughts when they made their stop. The family got off the crowded train. The smell of city air and the blinding lights were sensations that she felt so rarely but they brought back some of her fondest memories.
“It’s been a while since we’ve been to the city,” said her dad. “Do you want to roam around on your own?”
“Let’s walk around together first,” Ochako replied. She remembered being invited to a yakiniku place just a few hours ago and thought … meat. Meat sounded really good to eat right now. If there was one thing she rarely got to eat, it was yakiniku. All-you-can-eat restaurants were all the rage these days but it was almost impossible to get a reservation for her family.
She skipped around the town square, eyes bright. There was the hustle and bustle of cityfolk as she surveyed the area, looking for something that would fill her stomach. Ochako then spotted the next best thing.
“Hey, it’s yakitori!” Ochako exclaimed.
Ochako lined up with her mom at the yakitori stand for the savory delights. Her dad was elsewhere, looking for takoyaki and dango. As they made it to the front of the line, Ochako fished out her wallet before her mom lowered her hand.
“Remember, Ochako. It’s on us! Use your money for something you really want,” said her mom. All Ochako could do was laugh sheepishly. She didn’t know how to tell them that she wanted extra but her mom saw through it almost immediately.
“I see, so you want a little extra, huh?” Her mom teased and Ochako nodded shyly and the former slung her arm around her shoulder.
“Just listen to your father, alright? I know you care about us and how we shouldn’t be spending it on you—but you’re our daughter. And you got into UA! So I say it’s appropriate that we celebrate, right?”
It was really difficult to protest against her parents. Deep down, she knew that they meant well.
“Right...” Her mom ended up buying her extra skewers. Her dad just came back with a huge box of takoyaki and dango sticks. In retrospect, maybe she shouldn’t have asked her parents how their day was. Ignorance was bliss, right?
For a while, everything seemed normal. Ochako was able to shake off the guilt and she managed to enjoy the good food she had always wanted. They also had huge chocolate crepes, and mochi ice cream for dessert. Yes, maybe she wished they didn’t spend so much but she could let go of that feeling for one night.
“Hey, dad, what if I try finding a mochi maker?” she asked. “I’ll just go to one of the stores nearby and see if there’s one on sale.”
“Well, you’re a big girl, Ochako. You can go off and find something you’d like. Just make sure to call me, alright?” Her dad reminded her as he held his phone.
Ochako clutched her flip phone to her chest and nodded earnestly.
“Don’t worry, I will!”
She walked around the place and saw a store that caught her eye. A big sign that implied they sold desserts and appliances.
“Mochi…” Ochako sprinted to the shop before it got crowded.
“Must … get … mochi … machine!” She declared, as determined as she’ll ever be only to come to an abrupt stop to open the door gently. The bell jingled and it looked exactly as it did from the outside. It looked quite old but its wooden frames were well-maintained. It was lined with vintage paintings and it looked very warm and cozy.
Ochako looked around the place to find baking essentials and different appliances.
“Hello, dear! What would you like to buy?” said an old lady from over the counter. She was short and stout but had a warm smile on her face. Ochako returned the smile. “We don’t normally get customers past this time.”
“Hmm…” Ochako hesitated as her finger tapped her chin. “I’m looking for a mochi maker that’s affordable, and in pink if you have it.”
She almost fainted from joy when she saw the perfect mochi maker in front of her. It was pink and had rabbit ears on the sides. However, Ochako hesitated when she saw the price. It was quite expensive. She looked at her phone pensively. Should she lie about the price and buy it with her own money? Will they find out?
“What’s wrong?” The old lady suddenly showed up beside her.
“Whoa! How did you get there?” Ochako exclaimed and the old lady simply chuckled.
“I’m still quite light on my feet, eh!”
“Yeah, I can see that,” Ochako laughed along.
“I don’t mean to pry but … what is the matter, dear?” the old lady continued and Ochako hesitated again. “Are the desserts not to your liking?”
“It’s uh, nothing, really,” she started. “This mochi maker looks perfect and it’s big enough for me to share . But I am … on a budget…”
The lady looked at her and urged Ochako to continue as the latter hesitated to expound.
“You see, I’m not from the city, so I don’t get to go to places like this often. My parents told me to call if I ever find something interesting but … I can’t help but feel a little guilty, is all. I don't want to waste their money.”
“Hm, I know what you mean,” the old lady replied. “When I was about your age, I experienced the same thing too.”
“Really?” Ochako asked curiously. She figured that it would be impolite to leave so soon. And without buying anything!
“Yes,” said the old lady. “It was difficult to live in a society where I had to beg to stay alive.”
Oh…
“I was shunned just for existing and people would tell me it was my fault for being born.”
“That must have been awful…” Ochako said sympathetically.
“I don’t understand why people think it is so wrong to be free. The way I see it, they must be bitter about being chained. But I chose to open this shop—whether they liked it or not.”
There was an awkward silence in the air. Ochako didn’t expect the old lady to spill specific details about her life. She started to feel uncomfortable about the idea that she believed Ochako was just like her in a way even though their lives couldn’t have been more different.
“Surely, you must know what it’s like to feel so trapped?” the old lady asked her hopefully.
Ochako genuinely pondered on that question. Did she feel trapped? In some ways, maybe. But did she love her parents? Without a doubt.
“All I want is to give back to my parents with my own merit. With all due respect, ma’am, we’ve only just met. My life is completely different from yours and I … don't think it's a fair comparison.”
“Well, is that so? Perhaps I could tell you more about my story over some coffee at the back of the store. I could really use a friend.”
Ochako smiled awkwardly. Maybe she would have taken up the offer if the conversation didn't start to go off in a different direction. She glanced at her phone and looked at it skeptically.
That’s weird, there’s no signal in this store, she thought to herself and backed away slightly when she noticed that the old lady stared at her.
“That's very kind of you, ma'am, but I’ll have to decline. You see, I need to go somewhere. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be … going out now. My parents are probably wondering where I've gone.”
“But what about your mochi maker? Don't you want to buy it?” The old lady asked her, the warm tone in her voice slowly disappearing.
Actually, forget the mochi maker, Ochako, maybe you should run.
And run, she did. Ochako sprinted to the exit of the store as quickly as she could and once she opened the door, the bell jingled and everything went silent.
Ochako slowly closed her eyes and opened them to see a location that she didn't recognize on the way in. The streets were darker. There were lesser people around. She checked her phone to find out that it read 9:30 pm.
“Huh?!”
It made no sense. It was 7:30 when she got there! She was only in the store for a few minutes at best. At least—it felt that way…
Ochako gasped with the realization that she missed the planetarium show and her parents might have been looking for her this entire time. She took a deep breath and tried to think of ways for the situation to make sense but she grasped at straws. The guilt ate her up and the tears slowly fell.
She surveyed her surroundings to see if the old lady could have possibly followed her on the way out but she wasn't there anymore.
Feeling slightly relieved, Ochako tried to call her parents. All she wanted was to let them know she was safe.
“Ochako?!” Her dad’s frantic voice yelled from the other end. “Ochako, can you hear me?!”
“Y-yes, dad I can hear you…” she said, her voice cracked and started to ramble. “I'm so sorry. I'm so so sorry that I wasted your time and missed the planetarium show. I don't know where I am anymore, I—”
“Ochako.” Her dad's voice said calmly. “Ochako. It doesn't matter anymore. All that matters is that you are safe. Where are you? What signs can you see?”
Ochako looked around, still disoriented, but luckily, thankfully she saw a sign that led to the street food area.
She frantically rushed towards the sound of the familiar bustling city lights and she tried to suck in the tears the moment she saw her parents talking to the police. Ochako tackled and circled her arms around both of them.
Perhaps it was the familiar warmth or the unfamiliarity of the situation.
Ochako broke down.
“I’m so sorry!” she cried. “I’m so sorry I wandered off! I'm so sorry I wasn't able to text you guys or do anything to make sure I wasn’t hurt or worse—”
“Shh…” Her mom calmed her down as she stroked her hair. “It’s okay, Ochako. It’s gonna be okay.
That night, Ochako was taken to the police station to be interrogated over what she saw. She told them everything, no matter how crazy it sounded.
“Hmm,” the interrogator hummed. “Surprisingly enough, Ms. Uraraka. This is not the first case of your kind. We have been getting reports of incidents similar to this for years.”
“So you don’t think I’m crazy?” Ochako asked.
“I don’t. But they’re very rare and yours is … the third case in the past 20 years. All I can tell you now is to keep your guard up. Perhaps it’s time to continue investigating this case once again…”
***
After they made it back, Ochako was so relieved. What happened a few hours back was unsettling. Unnerving. A strange store that made her lose track of time. An old lady that started to ask personal questions just to keep her in. If her parents weren't able to find her in time, she could have been kidnapped or worse…
To think that she will be moving to Tokyo in a few months saddened her.  There were many things that she saw for the first time. Some after a long time. Some she thought she'd never see again. Even with the experience in the appliance store, she was grateful. She always will be grateful for her parents going the extra mile to make her happy.
She entered her room after her nightly routine and plopped down on the futon.
I wonder what I'll dream about, she thought to herself. Maybe her dreams will be kinder to her than reality this time. It was how she always coped with the weight of it after all.
Ochako thought back to the old lady that compared herself to her. They couldn't have been more different. Ochako was blessed. Reminding herself of that was enough for her to drift off to sleep.
While it was kind to her, Dreamland seemed to have a different plan tonight.
There was always a soft pink haze that surrounded her dreams but this time, things felt a little more vivid. She looked around and noticed that she was in a car in the backseat. Ochako couldn’t see the face of her vessel for the night but she could see the ankle length dress and ring on her … wrinkly fingers? Okay, that was a little weird.
“Gramma, we’re already here,” said someone from the passenger seat as she turned around. The woman was beautiful. In a way, she looked like her own mother but without the tired look. She had a warm smile but Ochako saw a shift in her face before she turned away.
Not being able to control her actions, all Ochako could do was mutter out a weak thank you in return. The car came to a stop and she stepped out awkwardly. Why were her legs so wobbly? The driver seemed to notice and took her by the arm to help her sit on a wheelchair.
As she rubbed her eyes from the mist, she could see where they were.
It was a cemetery. The smell of rain and the thick fog as it cloaked the weathered gravestones was unmistakable. She looked up to the woman, who gripped the handles of the wheelchair tightly as Ochako was guided to the entrance.
It was strange, really. Ochako could see things vividly, she could think about what she saw but she couldn't control her actions. Most of her dreams were happy so why was she walking alongside a woman to a misty cemetery on a gloomy day?
Soon, the woman came to a stop and there they were as they looked down at a gravestone. Ochako couldn't make out the name but the cracks on its surface and the engravings have faded over time.
“You told me you wanted to come here again. It’s been over 70 years now, but …” she looked down at Ochako sympathetically. “I know it still hurts.”
"It feels like yesterday. We wanted to go on so many adventures together," she spoke without any control of herself. "My most beloved. I hope he's happy in heaven.”
“It must be wonderful to love someone so deeply and so freely.”
Ochako woke up with tears in her eyes that night. She was back in her room. It was completely dark out.
“Oh, that was terrible,” she mumbled to herself as she rubbed her eyes to stop the crying.
The dream felt so real. Like nothing she ever felt before. It was like she was living through the eyes of another person. Another distant reality. But that’s not how dreams worked, right? Dreams are the wishes of the heart and Ochako knew she didn’t want to be an old lady visiting a grave.
Stop overthinking it, Ochako. She told herself. It was just a dream, it wasn’t real. You can dream about better things soon.
Ochako tried her best to fall asleep again. She twisted and turned on the old worn out futon that she had since she was a kid but it was no use. The moment she closed her eyes, she could only see the dream she woke up from.
Unable to sleep, Ochako left her bed to go out and sit on the balcony of her room.
She loved starry nights like this. They lived in a part of the prefecture full of lights so she could only see the stars twinkling when the rest of the town was asleep. She craned her head up to look for her favorite star.
Polaris. It’s always there. In the same position as it was. She liked to think that even if the rest of the world kept moving and even though she’d have to keep moving too, the north star will be where it’s always been.
She sighed and the tears from her dream slowly dried. Ochako's mind was at peace once again.
Until she checked the time and the realization that she was sleep deprived hit her.
***
“Ochako,” her mom called out as she was washing the dishes. “Did you sleep well?”
Crap, she noticed! Ochako laughed nervously and dismissed the comment as smoothly as she could. “Oh, I — uh,  I just stayed up late watching movies!”
Her mom looked at her, unconvinced and she gulped. She never even tried to hint about having a nightmare.
“Hmm, you must be tired from what happened last night then.”
“Yeah! Yeah that's true…” Ochako had her hands behind her back. To tell the truth, she was still shaken by the dreams. And that old lady. It felt like there were eyes that loomed over her wherever she went—the eyes of that old lady.
Ochako reasoned with herself that her guard was up and that in time, the feeling would fade away.
She couldn’t have been more wrong as she experienced the same dream when night fell.
And the night after that.
…And the night after that.
It was always the same scenario. She was living through the eyes of an old lady that would visit someone’s grave. The name engraved on the tombstone was never shown but Ochako could feel a difference in each dream with what she could see from the waist down. The time of day and the silence of whoever led her there.
Dreams were once one of Ochako’s favorite things about life but soon enough, she was scared of falling asleep. She wouldn't call it nightmarish, but it elicited emotions that Ochako didn’t want to feel. The thing is, Ochako didn’t like to feel things deeply to begin with. There wasn't a reason for her to feel negative emotions because she was already so blessed.
So why did the tears keep falling?
***
This was the worst one yet. The worst nightmare she has ever had.
No other vivid dream could compare to the suffocating feeling this one came with. Except … this didn't feel like a dream at all. This pain felt oh so real. Ochako was in a dark room. She could hear the sound of a heart monitor with a beat that was slowing down. She frantically tried to look around but she could no longer move her head. All she could see was a ceiling fan. That was when she noticed that there was something that supported her breathing as several machines were strapped to her body.
What is this? She panicked. Where am I? Am I dying?
It’s like she was drowning with no way of coming up to the surface. Her body slowly stiffened and her eyes started to blur.
Just then, someone held her hand.
She looked up to see a silhouette of someone that she didn’t recognize.
"Hey," he started and Ochako looked at them with beady eyes. "It's me."
Ochako couldn't speak. She could only let out a weak nod of acknowledgement.
“It’s going to be alright. Breathe out, Ochako. We’ll see each other again. Don’t you worry.”
The impact from the train’s sudden stop woke Ochako up. They left in the morning but the sky was already dark. How long has it been since they’ve traveled and made stops? She sat up straighter and rubbed her eyes, only to feel an overwhelming amount of tears. Ochako gasped and wiped them away in a panic. She really hoped her parents wouldn’t notice.
She turned around to see that her parents just woke up too. Her dad rubbed her eyes and greeted her good morning.
“Ochako, it’s time to grab your bags,” said her mom. “Today is the day!”
The Uraraka family made their way off the cramped and crowded train.
Ochako rubbed her eyes to get rid of any excess tears and she feigned that it was because of how in awe she was of Tokyo.
“There’s so many people!” She looked up and saw a huge building with two divisions. Blue windows covering every inch as far as she could see.
So that must be UA.
“C’mon, Ochako, the apartment isn’t very far away from here. It’s only walking distance from UA University.”
And true enough, it really wasn’t. It was a humble place with at least four stories. They made her way up to the third floor of the building and stopped at A-401.
"So this is the room you will be staying in, Ochako,” her dad said as she opened the door.
The auburn haired girl glanced around at the place. It was quite small with a couch for three, a kitchenette, a tiny bathroom, all the things that a seventeen year old girl like herself would be terrified to use on her own.
But hey, this was what she wanted after all.
It wasn’t as nice as the one at home but it sure felt that way. Her parents weren't able to afford stationery so something she would do is daydream of all the cute designs to customize her space with. She even brought some of the smaller dioramas she made at home to decorate the place with.
“Hey, Ochako,” her mom started. “Were you able to check the balcony?”
“The balcony…?” Ochako walked into the room she will be sleeping in and was shocked to see a balcony just like the one she had at home. Better yet, it overlooked UA University and the rest of the city.
"I know it's not much, Ochako but I hope that it will be good enough for you to live in while you go to school—"
"Thank you..." she hugged her parents tightly. They may not be vocal about it but Ochako already knew that her parents didn’t want her to go.
"I promise, Ochako. One day we will have enough money to buy you all the things that you deserve to have."
"No, dad," she replied. "You've got it all wrong. I’ll make the most of my stay in UA so I can be the best engineer the company will have!" She punched the air enthusiastically.
After that, the look in her eyes changed as she smiled at them sentimentally.
"One day, you two will rest easy knowing that your daughter is there to give back to you. And I won't ever let anything get in the way of my dream."
She gave the two of them one last tight hug as she squeezed her eyes shut, afraid of what would happen if she didn’t. “See you in July!”
