today i was thinking about the tooth fairy and what a charming myth it is. imagine how scary it might be for kids to all of a sudden have parts of their mouth falling out, but we've collectively made it a special, magical experience instead. it's just one of those little moments of humanity that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Got out of writer's block today

Just about had an aneurysm this evening because one of my favorite video games is broken on my PC at the moment. Despite two days of my best efforts, the game remains obstinately unplayable.

But I decided to redirect the primordial rage I was feeling to work on a short, mostly auto-biographical, story I've been thinking of and I finally was able to get words down on paper tonight after weeks of writer's block! Turns out the trick was actually writing on paper and not on my computer. The irony.

I might start writing all of my stories on physical paper first, there's something about it that makes my writing more intimate and emotional that the callousness of a computer screen disrupts. I think this is especially useful if you write in very fluid cursive like I do because the sentences tend to flow together so much more easily with the movement of the script. Thought I'd pass this along in case anyone else is struggling with writer's block atm :))

actually ive always loved tumblrs practice of excersising what is very obviously baby first media analysis when we pick the popular little tv shows, blorbos, books, movies. web weaving, misusing academic terms they do not understand, late baroque oil paintings with badly chosen quotes on top, extending homoerotic subtext onto straight characters. just seeing anything where kids attempt (pseudo)intellectualism, even if for tumblr notes, is SUCH a breath of fresh air in a current wave of terminally online people constantly being stupid for clout

You cannot live alone on the fantasies you feed to your mind, eventually you have to touch your life for real, assess and analyze your habits, understand your character, try not to hate yourself for your character as it was shaped when you were very young by circumstances outside of you, and begin learning how to cope with your character, how to build habits that work for you, finish small projects, finish big projects, expose yourself to more uncomfortable situations, assess why you want to leave that friendship before you leave it, raise your anxiety levels on purpose, so that you can grow, raise your work load on purpose, so that you can grow, so that you can build resilience, so that your life expands, and can be experienced by you in full and in reality
