I feel like there’s needs to be, like, handbook for authors who post on Ao3 for effective metatext.

By metatext I mean like tagging, summary, and authors notes (especially initial authors notes at the beginning of a fic). The means by which we communicate to our readers what they’re getting into.

Because we kind of all have to learn it by osmosis and there are conventions but nobody’s really taught them at the start, so there’s inconsistencies and misunderstandings or people just not knowing things through no fault of their own.

This ends up breeding frustration and confusion and in the worst cases resentment, hurt, and aggression.

I’m severely tempted to make such a handbook and get it circulating.

I think it would do fandom a lot of good.

Surprise, I'm still here! And to celebrate, here's my personal headcanon about soulmates.

A lot of people are afraid it's like this:

Where they are forced to be with someone that fate has decided for them and they don't get a choice.

But really, it's more like this:

Where fate shows them "look, this person could be perfect for you if you're willing to get to know them". You still get the free choice to decide whether you want to or not, it's just fate pointing them out to you.

Alright, I’m gonna lean into fandom and say Tony Stark here. Not because there aren’t real people I admire or anything, but because he exemplifies a lot of qualities that I admire in people. He’s not a perfect person at all, of course, and there’s also qualities I’m less fond of, but...

To me, he reminds me that it’s never too late to turn things around. It’s never too late to look at things, to see they are Not Right, and to change them. He doesn’t forget what’s gone wrong, doesn’t forget the mistakes he’s made, but he doesn’t let those keep him down. And to me, it is really important to see that it’s never too late, as long as you don’t give up.

Hmmm... There’s periods I’d like to see, people I’d like to meet, but I think if I really had to make a choice, I’d go back to when I was younger, when things weren’t going well in a lot of ways and I needed someone. And I’d sit with myself, and listen, and try to help out. I’d tell myself some of the things I needed to hear back then and people couldn’t tell me for various reasons. I’d let myself cry, and rage, and I’d give myself a hug.

Okay so I asked my mom and her response was “wow, nothing specific comes to mind” so instead I’ll tell you all a secret. Because I know a lot of people are familiar with the whole ‘my brain keeps working and worrying and now I can’t sleep’ and in theory, I’m someone who’s super susceptible to that. In practice, however, I have a trick.Since I’m not gonna be able to stop the thinking, what I do instead is target the thinking. Ever since I was young, I’d make up stories in my mind when going to sleep, and I’d eventually drift off. Often self-indulgent self-insert stories that I never planned to write out anyway, which means I don’t have to worry about remembering any of it the next morning. That way, I can target all that thinking into not-worrying, and the transition to sleep would go more smoothly. It has worked really well for me, and who knows - maybe it’ll help someone else as well.

For this, I picked Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson, an utterly humorous and poignant book about mental health and how to deal with its difficulties. A specific passage wasn’t easy to find, since there’s a lot of good ones and a lot of bizarre ones and I wanted one that showed the essence of the book, both the meaningful and the weird, and I think I found it.“Personally, I always compare myself to Galileo because everyone knows he’s fantastic, but he has no spoons at all because he’s dead. So technically I’m better than Galileo because all I’ve done is take a shower and already I’ve accomplished more than him today. If we were having a competition I’d have beaten him in daily accomplishments every damn day of my life. But I’m not gloating because Galileo can’t control his current spoon supply any more than I can, and if Galileo couldn’t figure out how to keep his dwindling spoon supply I think it’s pretty unfair of me to judge myself for mine.” [p242]I love this book, and I still reread it sometimes because it helps me with my own mental issues as well, by encouraging me and reminding me I’m not the only one.

We are happy to announce that the StarkBucks Bingo event 2020 is underway!

What the heckidy is this? Well, SBB is a fandom bingo event for the Marvel ship Bucky Barnes x Tony Stark; otherwise known as Winteriron or simply BuckyTony.

We understand that some people know of “StarkBucks” as another name for Stuckony, but this is not a Stuckony bingo. (Though that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to write Stuckony if you desire.) Blame our brilliant Trash Mod for this confusion.

Signups will officially open on Sunday, April 12th! We will be accepting signups for the remainder of the month of April! There will be a form posted you will need to fill out to sign up! Cards will go out the first two weeks of May!

The event will run from May 1st all the way through the remainder of the 2020 year!

Those who sign up will be able to swap out up to 3 squares that they don’t like for something different, based on their preferences. You will have 10 days after receiving your card to send in your swap request.

Dear @hddnone​, I hear you like bed sharing fic. I also like bed sharing fic, and I ADORE your work and also you. So here’s this. I wrote it in a night I never do that who even am i. As always, thanks to Stella for title assistance.

“I take it back,” Tony calls out the open doorway, “this safe house is not well stocked, they forgot one very important thing.”

Bucky appears in the doorway a second later, looks around the small bedroom, and then fixes Tony with an unimpressed look.

“There’s only one bed,” Tony says slowly, in case Bucky somehow missed it, but Bucky just shrugs. And of course it’s not a problem for him, he’s not the one uselessly pining away like a character in an old timey romance novel.

“So you take it,” Bucky says, “I hardly sleep anyways.” Then he turns to leave, like that’s just the end of the conversation.

“That is not the end of this conversation!” Tony says, following him back out into the equally tiny living room.
