A love / hate relationship with this book

The story of a rich man who fears nothing and has a high respected position in society. The adoring husband who loves his wife unconditionally and worships the floor she walks on. This is how she saw him until she finds out about his ugly truth.

Jack is a cheater, a corrupted asshole who keeps on manipulating Jess and giving her illusion about his pure love to her. Those who love don't cheat, they don't even think of looking at other people.

I didn't like Jess much , and she kinda lost my respect when she decided to give him another chance. I don't understand why, she literally put herself through hell while the asshole kept on his filthy shit.

Another aspect I hated was that I felt the main character Jess didn't consent to many things that were done to her, and she kept silent, I mean the author kept describing her as this strong woman who's independent, well educated and intelligent, but I really didn't see much of that .

I'm keeping my opinion of Cam until I read the next book, I want to see more of him.

I really want to talk about how the author keeps on exaggerating when describing the characters and I cringed so many times.

This my honest review, I'm still looking forward to read the next installment in this trilogy, I really wants to see what happens to Jess next.

Title: You Deserve Each Other

Author: Sarah Hogle

Rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a story about an “affianced” couple whose wedding is in a few months’ time; however, they hate each other. Surprise, surprise!! And this novel details all the shenanigans and obstacles they set for one another to call off the wedding!

This was a very entertaining read, there were times while reading that I had to stop draw in air because I was laughing way too hard! The writing style is great, the intertextual references are witty, and the storyline is beyond funny and sarcastic. However, the novel isn’t one without flaws, the beginning of this book lagged quite a bit, that I felt if 50 pages were cut off the start it would’ve been much better, but the writing is really good that it keeps you reading if you face this issue as I did! Around the halfway mark, the story picks up pace and definitely redeems its past transgressions. Another flaw category this novel falls into is of the “tell not show” category. It just told way too many things instead of showing them. Additionally, I, personally, would’ve loved if we had a few chapters from Nicholas’ POV, for I was so frustrated with Naomi and her, at times, irrational thought process and assumptions.

Nevertheless, this is Sarah Hogle’s debut novel, and as such these are forgivable grievances; and I for one can’t wait to read what she comes out with next.

You may be thinking that if the novel was thusly flawed, why the high star rating? This book earned its stars because it did two things; it kept me engaged all throughout, and stirred up my feelings, for I teard up quite a few times.

A great debut from a promising author, highly recommend!

Heartstopper Review | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

So, I’m currently participating in the #stayhomereadingruah challenge, which is set from today till Sunday and has various reading and social media challenges. One of the reading challenges is to read a book that makes you happy. For this prompt, I chose to read the Heartstopper graphic novel, since I heard nothing great reviews.

This story follows Charlie Spring and the “trials and tribulations” (more like his day-to-day life than trials and tribulations but just roll with it 😅) of being a gay teen in England.

Alice Oseman does an excellent job in presenting her character and keeping the story engaging throughout each volume (I read all 3 in one sitting in the span of 4 hours I believe). Also, there’s an abundance of diverse representation from queer and racial to mental health representation, all are respectfully depicted and in no way stereotypical (at least not in my opinion). Additionally, the art style is so beautiful (which is just the cherry on top).

Personally, I’m not one for flowery language, but I can wax poetics about how adorably cute this graphic novel is. Alas, I’m also not one good with words when it comes to pinning down exactly what made me love a book as much as I did. All I can say is that this story hit me in the feels, and YOU ALL HAVE TO GIVE IT AT LEAST A SHOT!

I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quick fluffy yet hard-hitting and wholesome story.

Most things are pretty much plain in life and you feel like you're constantly pushing yourself forward. You know that your life is lacking and you only want to actually live not just exist and survive. Yeah, fear doesn't only let you survive, it heats your blood, your heart starts beating fast and you feel those tingles, you become so aware of every breath , everything that brushes against your skin. This is actually what being alive should feel like. ❣️ The #devilsnight books by the great author @penelope.douglas revives me. The first book #corrupt corrupted me forever. The second book #hideaway showed me how being invisible actually makes you strong. And now , the third book #killswitch , Damon Torrence , wasn't my person, I didn't like him. How do you succeed Penelope each time to make us love the worst things in characters ? This is not a review, these are my feelings that I struggled to write down because I was so overwhelmed. At time I read *one eye closed * 😂 fearing the storm looming in the horizon. . Lex and Twitch fought with teeth and nails to be together, and they developed and grew throughout this story to their better selves. . I learnt something important from this story, even if all the lights blink out one by one, make sure to always " keep a light on".
