Lightening Love

The match in Prisoner of Azkaban but Gryffindor plays Slytherin. Harry and Draco are new to their relationship but when Harry falls off his broom Draco pushes everything aside to save him.

Harry and Draco were hidden behind a tapestry on the sixth floor. The two were sitting comfortably in quiet conversation across from each other in the windowed alcove, watching the rain beating down on the glass and over the grounds. Both sat with their knees to their chests and their fingers brushing against each other.

No one knew about their relationship as it was still new, and they were still working on blending with each other’s personalities instead of arguing. Which had still led to very big fights but very nice make up sessions after.

Harry had thought Draco had completely given their relationship away when he had so obviously checked him out in Care of Magical creatures but apparently everyone was as blind as Harry.

Draco tsked, “Honestly, they should have postponed the match a day or two. I’ll catch a cold in this weather, and you know what happens then.”

Harry huffed a laugh, “Yes, you become even more of an insufferable prat than you already are.”

“Ha. Ha. You’re hilarious.”

Harry leaned his head back against the stone wall and looked at the other boy, “Not up for the challenge?”

Draco rolled his eyes, “I’m not up for getting soaked through my robes in the freezing cold or possibly being struck by lightning.”

Harry mock gasped, “You could end up with a scar like mine.”

“The horror.”

“You’re a baby.”

Draco raised his eyebrow, “I’m a fully grown teenager last I checked and older than you.”

“By a month.” Harry argued back.

Draco sighed wistfully, “Oh and what a blissful month it was.”

“Oh, shut up.” Harry kicked Draco lightly.

As the bell rang out Harry shuffled to his feet, “We better head to the pitch.”

Draco nodded and stood, pulling Harry to him by his robes and pressed a kiss to his lips, “Good luck, Potter.”

“Good luck, Draco.”

Harry then peaked his out of the tapestry and walked down the corridor knowing Draco would wait a few minutes before leaving.

The pitch stands were full, everyone was chanting and screaming over the loud wind and rain.

Slytherin and Gryffindor started with their keepers and moved in a line to shake hands with everyone. Some were aggressive and some didn’t shake hands at all choosing to sneer instead.

Interestingly Marcus and Oliver shook hands for once instead of their usual shoving match.

Draco and Harry were last on each side and clasped each other’s hand in a tight but comforting grip. Draco squeezed twice and so did Harry before they let go again.

Everyone put on their goggles and mounted their brooms shooting off into the sky as Madam Hooch released the balls and blew the whistle.

The two seekers had circled around pitch for a while before Draco purposefully bumped into Harry’s side.

“You look hilarious in those!” Draco shouted over the noise of the wind and the spectators.

Harry rolled his eyes and shouted back, “You look ridiculous in yours!” Draco’s hair was flat to his head, the rain making his hair look dirtier blonde than his usual platinum, he can’t imagine that he looked much better.

“You look cute!”

“Shut up you!”

Anyone in the stands would just assume Harry and Malfoy were arguing. Malfoy crashing into Harry so he could cheat and hit Harry or yell at him to distract him and wouldn’t notice the snitch.

Which is close to his plan but instead, Malfoy’s real plan was to flirt with Harry to distract him instead.

“Meeting up in the usual place after this?!”

Harry rolled his eyes, “I know what you’re doing and it’s not working!”

“What’s that Potter?!”

“You-” Harry stopped, and Draco quickly followed his line of sight to a glint of gold and the two sped off.

Harry grinned and turned his head back to the blonde who was a few paces behind him, “Can’t keep up, Malfoy?!”

Draco smirked and leant forward on his broom moving faster to catch up to Potter’s side as the two flew around the pitch at breakneck speed.

The snitch flew up past the stands and into the sky, the two didn’t hesitate to follow.

Draco had moved in front of him as they flew through the clouds but when Harry came out on the other side Draco, nor the snitch was anywhere to be seen.

“Draco?!” Harry yelled as he turned on his broom and saw nothing but clouds.

The lightening illuminated the clouds into the shape of the grim before the sight of a dementor made him fly off in the opposite direction.

Draco never let the snitch out of his sight as he came back down from the clouds. He reached out his hand and wrapped his frozen fingers around the surprisingly warm snitch, holding it above his head in triumph the Slytherins erupted into thunderous cheers.

He made his way down to the ground and got off his broom, his teammates clapping him on the back as the disappointed Gryffindors slowly made their descent.

Draco searched around for number seven but couldn’t see Harry anywhere.

The cheers around him turned to screams as everyone looked up.

“Harry!” Someone yelled in fear.

Draco followed and his heart jumped into his throat as he saw Harry hurtling down towards the ground, no broom to be seen.

Without hesitation Draco dropped the snitch on the ground, mounted his broom and kicked off the ground, shooting across the pitch and back up into the sky. When he was right under Harry he stopped, squeezed his legs tight around the broom and held out his arms, trying to brace himself for the weight.

Draco grunted as, by the grace of Merlin, Harry fell into his arms, but the force of his fall and his saturated robes pushed down on the broom and since Draco didn’t have any hands on the handle, the broom began to spin them, nose down, in a spiral towards the ground.

Draco pulled Harry closer to his chest, leaning over him to make sure Harry didn’t slip from his grasp.

He squinted his eyes to try and see where they were falling, everything passed by so quickly in a circle, making him nauseous, but his eyes widened as he saw the goal post that was getting closer and closer.

They would crash right into it if they stayed on the broom. Glancing down he saw they weren’t too far from the ground. Just before they could hit the post Draco made the split-second decision to loosen his legs from his broom and fell sideways off the broom, he quickly twisted so that his back would hit the ground first and Harry would land on top of him.

They hit the ground with a nightmarish thud, Harry’s head cracked into Draco’s forehead making him cry out.

Merlin. Harry was heavy.

Draco coughed and cried out in pain as he shoved Harry off him. Trying to breathe felt like his chest was on fire and when he made to sit up the pain in his chest forced him back down. He turned his head to the side and looked at the unconscious boy, “Potter.”

He ripped the goggles off his head and threw them on the ground looking back at Harry, “Harry!” He looked down at his chest and saw it moving.

Well, at least the tosser was still alive.

He heard the thundering footsteps all around him as the Slytherins, Gryffindors, Professors and some of Harry’s friends ran up to them.

“Is he alright?!”

“That was some catch, Malfoy.”

“We need to get him to Pomfrey.”

They all spoke over each other.

“Out of my way! Out of my way!” Madam Hooch yelled as she pushed through the crowd that had gathered around him.

Draco made to get up again, but Snape pushed him down gently, “Stay down Mr Malfoy.”

Draco nodded, happy to not get up and lay back down on the cold wet grass, the adrenaline was wearing off fast and the pain in his head and chest got worse and worse until his eyes rolled into his head and he passed out.

Harry frowned at the voices that surrounded him.

“Oh, he’s waking up.”

Harry opened his eyes, and the group staring down at him let out a sigh of relief.

“You gave us a right good scare there, mate.” Fred told him.

Harry blinked and realised everything was fuzzy.

Hermione handed him his glasses, “How’re you feeling?”

Harry nodded, “Fine, yeah. What happened?”

“You fell off your broom!” Ron exclaimed

“That wasn’t even the weirdest bit.” George chuckled.

Hermione turned and glared at him.

“What?” Harry shifted in the bed.

“It happened so fast. You were falling and then Malfoy kicked off from the ground and caught you.” Hermione explained.

“Mate, he caught you in mid-air! The two of you spiralled down to the ground and Malfoy threw you both off the broom before you crashed into the keeper post.”

Harry’s mouth had fallen open, “What?” The last thing Harry could remember was the dementors coming for him, he remembered the twist in his stomach as he felt like he was falling and... that’s it.

“That’s what we were thinking.”

Harry rubbed his cheek, “Is he alright?”

Hermione bit her lip and gestured to the bed next to them, “A gash to his head and a broken rib but he’s fine. He uh, used himself to break your fall.”

“What?!” Harry sat up so fast the group jumped back, turning his head he saw Draco lying sleeping in the bed.

Ron shifted the bundle in his arms, “Uh, there’s another thing too Harry.”

Harry looked back to Ron and saw what he was holding.

“When you fell, uh, your broom fell into the Whomping Willow and... well.” He uncovered some of the fabric and Harry saw his broom splintered to pieces.

Harry sighed at the sight of it.

There was a second bundle that was sitting on the ground beside Draco’s bed, “What’s that?”

Hermione sniffed, “After Malfoy got you both off the broom it crashed into the post.”

“And the match? Who won?”

George huffed, “Malfoy caught the snitch before you fell.”

Hermione gently touched his arm, “No one blames you, Harry. The dementors aren’t supposed to come inside the grounds. Dumbledore’s furious.”

A groan from the bed beside them caused them all to look at Draco who was shifting around.

Harry got up from his own bed, ignoring the others and stood beside Draco’s.

“Hey.”

Draco blinked before fully registering who was in front of him.

“Harry.” he sighed in relief, “You ok?”

Harry smiled, “Fine. Thanks to you.”

“Don’t get used to it.” Draco huffed, “Typical. My first win against you and you decide to fall off your broom to cause havoc.”

Ron was about to step in on Harry’s behalf when, to their surprise, Harry started laughing.

“Can’t have the attention off me, right?”

Draco swallowed, “Always knew it. You’re a sore loser, Potter.”

Harry gently took his hand, “Thank you, for saving me.”

Draco squeezed it, “Don’t get used to it.”

“You couldn’t live without me.” Harry teased.

“Please.” Draco huffed, “I saved your life and in return you broke my ribs and headbutted me in the process, I think I’m safer far away from you.”

Harry ignored him and reached out, brushing Draco’s hair away from his forehead. His eyebrows raised before he burst out laughing.

“What?” Draco frowned and he raised his hand to his head, “What is it?”

Harry couldn’t speak, he doubled over, tears fell from his eyes as he laughed harder.

Draco looked around and grabbed a mirror from his bedside table, placing it at his forehead he brushed his fringe out of the way.

In the middle of Draco’s forehead was a newly healed scar in the shape of a lightning bolt.

“I’m going to kill you.” Draco hissed.

“Sorry. What the hell is going on?!”

The two boys turned, and Harry remembered that there was an audience who had just witnessed their whole exchange.

“Yes. I’m definitely going to kill you.” Draco huffed, letting his head fall back onto the pillow.
