“She was nothing like Jesminda.”
People are always up lucien’s ass for this line and for comparing elain to jesminda but like…no shit he’s gonna be comparing them 😭—the female he thought was his mate and his actual mate.Lucien genuinely believed him and jesminda were mates and she died with him thinking that. It’s only natural now that he’s found his real mate his mind would wander back to jesminda and he’d subconsciously compare the two.Lucien did not think anything negative about elain he was merely making an observation on how different she is than who he’d expected to be his mate(jesminda).
“Elain had been … thrown at him.”
People also twist this line in a million different ways.Lucien was thinking back on how him and jesminda had this epic love story where she had seduced him and teased him and chosen him in every way there was.He had then spent centuries believing his “mate” was dead so elain had been thrown at him.Thrown at him as in he never expected to find his mate because he thought his mate was DEAD.The mating bond snapping was just as shocking for lucien as it was for elain. So just like elain, lucien is allowed to be confused and uncertain about their mating bond especially in this scene where he was literally meeting her for the first time. This is not proof lucien doesn’t want elain or that he resents the mating bond,it’s literally just him thinking and making keen observations regarding their situation.Stop twisting my man’s words 🗣️.

Chaol and Yrene have the loveliest love story ever. And tbh Gwynriel and Elucien can have similar attributes.
A journey of healing and self-love, getting over mistakes, etc: can be applied to both Az and Lucien because both have this self-hatred for themselves, feel guilty about things from the past (Lucien feels guilty about Jesminda) (Az feels tainted by his violent work as a torture master, feels guilty and responsible for Mor and the situation with Eris and Keir)
“Betrayal”, resentment for the other that switches into understanding: Yrene hated Chaol at first because he was from Adarlan and served under the king who was the reason her family died. But as she spent time with him she learned who he was, how loyal he is, and all the regrets he had, as well as his intentions. This can be the same as Elucien where she might resent him for allying with Hybern (even though it wasn’t his fault but anyways) but then she learns more about the situation and who he is, how loyal he is, and his good intentions.
✨✨Friendly Reminder✨✨
Tower of Dawn spoilers ahead. Scroll away…unless you’re a person that needs to hear this. 🤭
SJM doesn’t NEED 30 books of “build up” for her love stories to be great. The fact some people point this out as an argument for why Gwyn and Azriel can’t be a thing shows that you haven’t read ALL of Sarah’s book.
For those who haven’t read Throne of Glass allow me to introduce you to not just one but TWO couples featured in this book that had ZERO interaction prior to Tower of Dawn. Chaol Westfield and his WIFE Yrene Westfall (Towers) and Nesyrn Faliq and Prince Sartaq.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neither of these couples were aware of each other prior to this book, two of these characters had very little to no pages time prior to this book too. So your excuse that Sarah can’t write Gwyn and Azriel and make it a good story because there was no previous build up doesn’t fly because Tower of Dawn was a good book and the amount of people that love both these couples prove you so very wrong.
Plus Sarah’s books are almost 1000 pages long sometimes. So you’re telling me that a romance novel with 200-300 pages, that y’all like to say we’ve NEVER read 🙄, will make yall swoon when strangers get together but not Azriel and Gwyn with more the double those pages. Give me a break 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

In ACOWAR during the meeting with Kier when he asks for his people to be free of the mountain, Feyre says “You have every comfort, and it’s still not enough?”
She had every comfort at Tamlin’s manor, and it still wasn’t enough for her…
#freethecourtofnightmares2024
One thing that really pisses me off about the Court of Nightmares is how SJM writes it so black and white. The entire court, not just Keir, is evil and conniving. There was a part in ACOWAR where he says he is going to let the CoN go to Velaris but he told all of the vendors and business owners to refuse service to not just Keir, but all of the CoN. And this paints the entire court in this black and white lense.
Not a single person in that court is a dreamer like Mor? She was the only fucking one?
I think there can be a little bit of nuance to the situation where a significant portion of the court is just bad because they have been festering in the dark for so long, but guess who's fault is that?? It's the leader's fault, the one who keeps the court up and running, aka the High Lord, aka Rhys.
Rhys says he wants change. That he wants to show the world that he's good. But he continues to keep the Court of Nightmares up and running, he keeps Keir as herald.
"Oh this court is so awful and sadistic," Feyre thinks as she sits on the throne with a crown on her head and with Rhys holding her hand.
And Rhys says "the Court of Nightmares just rules itself" and sure, I guess that's true, but as High Lord, you have the ability to put a stop to that and pull out the bad weeds. But instead, you keep it running to further your agenda and to keep your evil mask on.
Getting mad at Keir for slutshaming your lover and breaking his arm is not enough. Restricting access to Velaris is not enough. Even telling the Court "you guys are bad >:C " is not fucking enough.
Rhys the most powerful High Lord who killed all of the Illyrian war bands who sided with Amarantha after UTM, yet he can't do the same to the CoN?
Rhys and Feyre and the IC label the entire CoN as evil without trying to find the forgotten dreamers, and they continue to keep the court up and running and making the excuse that "it's too hard" despite their power and influence. It means they don't care. Or that Rhys maybe fucking enjoys it.
It also means that SJM (so far) has no idea what she's doing and can't understand the situation she wrote in her own series.
And this brings me to comparing Nesta being locked up, the CoN and its dreamers being locked up, and Feyre being locked up. Is SJM intending this irony and hypocrisy of the IC? I sure hope so because I swear it's the most obvious comparision ever, but it confuses me because a large majority of the ACOTAR fanbase doesn't get it. "Oh well the CoN is evil! They have to keep them contained and Rhys can't do a whole lot as High Lord because the Court rules itself." And the most frustrating argument: "Nesta was addicted to sex and alcohol, she needed to be rehabilitated! It's for her own good!"
They don't see the irony of how the IC treats Nesta because Tamlin also did what he did for Feyre's own good. It was to protect her, keep her safe. Not saying it was 100% good and right, but why are we not understanding that what the IC did to Nesta was not 100% good and right either?

Lucien glowed once as a child while he was with his big bro Eris and Eris knew from then exactly who his father was.
It was also the day that Eris decided Lucien could never be happy enough to glow again.

We don’t ACTUALLY know what Azriel’s initial reaction was to the girls being taken in ACOSF.
Tumblr media
Cassian wasn’t paying attention to any of them but Sarah elected to point out that AZRIEL was talking with urgency. I double very seriously that they went straight into talking about Eris when they walked into room and saw it trashed. This is why people say Cassian isn’t a reliable narrator, or Nesta or Feyre when it comes to other people’s inner THOUGHTS and FEELINGS.
Tumblr media
They are GUESSING based on their own observations which could be wrong. And yes Sarah knows all and what’s going on but she can’t write her characters like that. It was be bad writing, she has to write from their perspective based off what she has THEM know. Stating that we know anyone’s thoughts and options and WHY they do anything as fact based off a third party opinion without actually hearing it from the person is spreading incorrect information based on a third party. Miscommunication troupe at its finest.

Just thinking back to when Lucien asked Feyre to tell him about Elain and Feyre shared with him Elain’s love for gardening. Within that same year, Lucien gifted Elain with a pair of enchanted gloves; an accessory not meant to deter her from gardening (something which drove the servants mad) but rather allow her to garden to her hearts content without the feeling of discomfort.
Or when Feyre + Rhys asked if there was anything they could get Elain and she replied with, “I want to go home.” Coincidentally (or not) within that same scene, Lucien, who was also without a home, appeared.
Or when Nesta asked Elain the very same question and she said, “sunshine.”
Just who, might you ask, was the one to suggest Feyre + Nesta take Elain out for some fresh air after she’d been cooped up inside for months post being Made?
Who offered to find the missing queen Elain kept having visions about?
Who acknowledged Elain killed the King of Hybern?
Who met Elain’s former betrothed and left him still in tact, knowing full well that to harm him would hurt her?
Whose heartbeat was it that Elain could hear at night?
And just who continues to look at Elain with sadness and longing?
Elain knows who…
His name is Lucien MF Vanserra.

Stupid little headcanon.
Lucien was always trained to keep his mouth shut, to not talk, not whine and not complain. But has always struggled with this, as he loves talking and loves going on and on and on about things that annoy him until he finally calms himself down.
He used to rant into a mirror for hours, until he came to Spring.
Tamlin will stare into space, with zero thoughts in his head for hours. Just completely zoned out, off in Tamlin world and completely removed from reality.
Lucien will rant to Tamlin while he is zoned out for hours, it feels like he's talking to someone without them judging him for his ramblings, and Tamlin gets to space out for a while.
It's a wonderful balance.

For E/riel to happen,
A lot of major changes to the story need to occur. E/riel theories are often convoluted and contradicting, but let's go over some of the things that need to happen, for these E/riel theories shall we?
Elain and Lucien's bond has to be 'wrong or corrupt' while everyone else's is perfectly fine.
Lucien and Azriel need to have a blood duel where Lucien dies.
The bond is fake and they'll both have a good laugh about it.
Elain will reject the bond, but will always still have her bond with Lucien. She'll just go with Azriel and he'll be totally ok with it.
BOTH Elain and Lucien will reject the bond, which...somehow it just what, goes away? They will both find love with someone who isn't their mate, Az/Vassa, but constantly feel the pull to eachother since the bond doesn't go away. Lucien will eventually be driven mad.
Lucien has to be a cheater. Being a mated male and his whole characteristic of being fiercely loyal? Out the window.
Jurien has to betray them or die, since Jassa is a contendor to Vassien. Jassa cannot happen so we must get rid of Jurien.
Gwyn has to be evil
Gwyn's a Lightsinger/luring Azriel, so him wanting to see her cannot be of his own volition or a draw to any mating bond, it's because he's under a spell.
Gwyn is going to betray Azriel
Gwyn and Elain are going to fight over Azriel, which Gwyn will reveal her evil ploy
Gwyn cannot exist past SF and will fade into obscurity
Someone is forcing Elain to be with Lucien, in which she and Azriel must sneak around with their forbidden desires before someone steps in and fights for their happiness.
Lucien just fades into obscurity or dies trying to protect Elain which she goes to Az anyway.
Elucien happens in the first book, but then Lucien turns into a sudden asshole and pushes Elain away where she realizes she loved Az all along? The second book is Elain and Azriel getting together...which would be all of 5 pages.
For Elucien to happen,
Elain and Lucien need to spend time together and get to know eachother.
For Gwynriel to happen,
Azriel and Gwyn spend time together.
Azriel stops focusing on his lack of a mate and listen to his shadows who are clearly telling him the woman he's looking for is right in front of him.
That's it.
For Elucien/Gwynriel to happen, all they have to do is spend more time together. We don't need anyone to lose their HEA, we don't need to kill off any characters, or make anyone suffer. Everyone gets a HEA, which in a romance novel that's about soulmates and love and healing and fantasy, that's what it's about. This isn't GoT/SOIAF where people need to be scheming and die.
What sounds more likely? 2 books left focusing on 2 different ships like Eluciend and Gwynriel? Seeing 4 people get their HEA and possibly some blooming side ships like Jassa and Mor/Emire? Or, 2 books, one focusing on Elriel, where one of the many horrible and depressing options happen, with the second book being someone else entirely, or Vassien? Which again, would be breaking characters.
You tell me.

Az will romanticize that modesty and want to maintain it and put it on a pedestal and not want to “taint her” and Lucien will encourage her to step out of her box and flirt and nudge at her while still respecting her. And that’s reason number 147854215 why I love Elucien more.
“Elain…she’d taken one look at us in the swaying grasses outside that wagon, the legs and assets on display, and turned crimson. Viviane stepped in, offering a Winter Court fashion that was far less scandalous: leather pants, but paired with a thigh-lenght blue surcoat, white fur trimming the collar.”
“Fae fertility cycles had never been something I’d considered, and explaining them to Nesta and Elain had been uncomfortable, to say the least. Nesta had only stared at me in that unblinking, cold way. Elain had blushed, muttering about the impropriety of such things.”
Elain IS a prude, you cannot claim she’s not. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Don’t try to give her another personality so that she can fit better with Azriel. She gave Azriel those plugs when nobody was looking, precisely because she is a prude.
However, I don’t think this is important. If we say Gwyn can handle Azriel’s bedroom habits, then so can Elain. And also, if Elain can handle Azriel, then she can also handle her Autum Court mate who has fire in his blood and fucks like it too.
