The funny thing is, nobody actually wants pure content. They will find a way to immoralise everything, because there is no use in a perfect outlook.

Can the MCYT fandom please just start using the /p tonetag when they mean things platonically? I know the main reason you’re using it is because of boundaries, but it’s really unneccesary to keep jumping like ‘I THINK OF THEM LIKE THAT ONLY AS FRIENDS ITS NOT ME SHIPPING THEM’ when there’s already a tone tag for close platonic relationships.
Edit: Also please note platonic and joking arent the immediate same thing!

I feel like the big problem with discourse about sexist/homophobic/etc fiction is that people focus so hard on how those things cause bigotry (when in reality most people reading them will either click out, disgusted, or already be bigoted enough to enjoy it) instead of seeing them as a way bigotry manifests, which is what they mostly are.

Hot take: "this piece of fiction offended me, a marginalised person" doesn't mean "this piece of fiction inherently contributes to dehumanisation of marginalised people". Different people experience oppression and marginalisation differently. What's dehumanising for one person can be validating and empowering for other. Tropes one person find offensive could be a reflection of other person's lived experience.
For example, some gay men feel objectified by BL works but some other gay men actually enjoy BL, identify as fudanshi (male fans of BL) and relate to BL characters.
Some women hate "damsel in distress" trope, other women feel validated looking at a fictional woman whose value is not tied to her achievements, who is important and worth risking lives for her regardless of what she can or can't do.
Some abuse survivors believe any fictional depiction of abuse that's not all pain and suffering is romanticising it. Other abuse survivors such as myself experienced pain and suffering mixed with happy moments, genuine romantic feelings and great sex so "romanticised" abuse in fiction is an actual representation of my experience.
Please remember that your mileage may vary and being a marginalised person is not an excuse to advocate for censorship of all fiction you find offensive.

'We should be allowed to make the content we want to see' and 'we are allowed to debate wether said content should or shouldnt be made' are two ideas that can, do and always have coexisted.
Both are basic freedom of speech.

I wish we could briefly remember these kids are like ten, before having every expectation we have of children their age being crushed immediatelly in South Parks own old method of 'fuck you.' THAT was a pro gamer move.
am i the only one that feels that south park has gotten, idk if worse but definetly unfunny? like i hate randy being one of the mains now. And i feel theyre relying too much on political takes and making fun of ‘the libs’ its like their crutch now.
I remember we used to have episodes that werent about political topics like the anime one, or the videogames one, dont get me wrong south park has always been enlighted centrism, but at least it was funny before, i think the show has started to rely a lot in politics when before it was more of a sitcom.
Like i feel the actual main characters are pushed aside to make way for shitty political gags and commentary… i just want to see cartman, kyle, kenny and stan get into idiotic situations without cutting back to randy cumin on peoples weed every five seconds.
I feel the reliance on season wide arcs has done more harm for the show compared to when episodes where mostly contained in themselves. But idk, maybe i just grew up and realized that the creators are pretty self important centrists, who think that being passionate about anything makes you into an absolute idiot

Having a preference for a specific gender in a ship is not immediately fetishism. Some types of ships just naturally make people more comfortable than others.

Can I watch a great film knowing the actresses in it were terrorized and mistreated the entire time? Can I watch a football game knowing that the players are getting brain injuries right before my eyes? Can I listen to my favorite albums anymore knowing that the singers were all beating their wives in between studio sessions? Can I eat at the new fancy taco place knowing when the building that used to be there got bulldozed eight families got kicked out of their homes so they could be replaced with condos and a chain restaurant? Can I wear the affordable clothes I bought downtown that were probably assembled in a sweatshop with child labor? Can I eat quinoa? Can I eat this burger? Can I drink this bottled water? Can I buy a car and drive to work because I’m sick of taking an hour each way on the subway? Whose bones do I stand on? Whose bones am I standing on right now?

(honestly, answer this publicly) Hi, are you genuinely proship (pedophilia and incest) or are you just accidentally using the wrong label (harmless self-insert shipping)
Pro ship is not and never will be equivalent to condoning pedophilia or incest. Pro ship is “ship and let ship”, meaning we accept people who age up their f/os or ship with “problematic” characters, sometimes in “problematic” ways. But we do not condone real life abuse, real life incest, or harming real life minors. We believe that fiction doesn’t affect reality on a 1:1 ratio, but do acknowledge its effect on reality. We also acknowledge that people’s tastes in fiction do not reflect their real life morals. This blog is a pro ship aligned blog that specifically targets an audience of self shippers. I hope this helps clears things up for you.

watching purity arguments transform online has been….wild. First it was “write what you want, but tag it so that people who are triggered or uncomfortable can avoid” which, reasonable enough. Then it was “You can only write bad stuff if you explain your trauma to the internet at large and spell out exactly why you like writing about that bad stuff. If you don’t know if you’re traumatized or aren’t sure why you’re attracted to certain fiction you’re evil.” Now apparently it’s “you’re evil for writing fucked up stuff. doesn’t matter if it’s to process trauma, doesn’t matter if you yourself are a survivor, there’s certain content that can’t be written and you’re a bad person if you write it.”
what the fuck, guys. Word replace extensions exist. Tags on ao3 exist. You know who else exists? Trauma survivors who write bad stories to safely dissect and process what happened to them. People who are afraid of bad things happening to them and who write them down happening in a fictional setting so that they aren’t carrying that fear around with them and so that they can practice the idea that you can be okay after something awful happens. People who like stuff that you don’t like and who respect your right to avoid that content. In return, please fucking respect creators enough not to say they’re evil because they write evil characters. Writing about a murder has never made anybody a murderer. This attitude about fiction isn’t helping anybody. In fact, it’s literally just teaching survivors that they can’t talk about what happened to them. I’ve known multiple people who needed to talk and process their trauma and were afraid to because of purity culture. Fuck that noise, write whatever, and tag appropriately.  And if you bully people for doing that? Fuck. Off. Do not follow me. Do not read my sweet, fluffy, innocent fics. Do not interact.

the thing is a lot of outright reactionary or borderline-fash ideas get spread here bc they use the right progressive-sounding language and end up getting thousands and thousands of notes and so people on here end up with very um, strange politics
