So Resolution 35 may have seemed...
....a bit confusing to some.
My 35th resolution was to practice my trumpet outside.  Now, why is that anything substantial or worth doing? Well, I will explain!
At Texas State there aren't very many practice rooms, and when all of the practice rooms are full you can either wait until there is a room open or you can practice outside...in the open...where everyone can hear you...mistakes and all...are you getting my point?
Yeah, it's a little uncomfortable, and I don't exactly want anyone hearing me when I'm not playing at my absolute best and everything is not as good as it possibly can be.  I mean, to me, practice should be just that, practice!  It's where you get all of your imperfections ironed out.  Then, when people do hear you, you are playing at your prime!
So call me crazy, but I don't like people to hear me when I'm practicing. However, I stepped outside of my comfort zone and practiced outside one afternoon.  I faced my "discomfort" and played where all could hear.  But, I still feel the same about practicing outside as I did before.  I mean, sure, some people don't care and think you should be able to play anywhere at anytime, but it's just not for me.  I want to play and be able to just cut loose and let my mistakes fly.  I want to work through it all and not be self conscious of what everyone else is thinking.
Bottom line, I'm glad I did it.  I'm glad I forced myself to do something new, but sometimes the old stuff is just the best :) Back to my old habits, back to the practice rooms, back to the late nights practicing and making mistakes!
Thank you for reading this week, and I really hope that everyone you can find something that makes you uncomfortable or a fear of yours and face it! It's satisfying and gratifying, even if you still end up doing the same old thing you always do.  At least you gave it a shot! That's something to be proud of :)
God Bless, and Resolution 36 is coming right up!

Resolution 34 took some...
...commitment. This week my resolution was to ask 5 people about their day, every day. Now, I know it's natural to see someone and ask "How are you?" but how often do we REALLY care and want to know?? Well, I made it my challenge this week to make sure I really showed interest each and every time that I asked. I really can't stand it when I ask someone how they are, they say they are good and ask how I am, and I say good and we go about our day. I mean, I understand that sometimes you just don't have time to really ask and hear about someone's day. If that's the case though, then why don't we just say "hi"?? I just feel like it's a bit rude and uncaring, but yet I do it every day. This was a difficult resolution this week, but it really got me pondering on how I should be greeting people. And it made me really question how much time I take to focus on others each day. After all, what is life if it's not lived for others?? Anyway, I hope I was genuine to others this week, and I plan on continuing and improving as time goes on! However, I want your thoughts. How do you feel about the natural reaction "how are you" that we get from/give to people every day?? Is it REALLY acceptable or just something that we've come to accept over time?? Just something to ponder. :) Thanks for reading!! :) resolution 35 is on it's way!

Resolution 33 could not have...
....come at a better time. I have just gotten down to college, in Texas, and with resolution 33 being to make a long phone call, I had plenty of reason to do that! I had a few long phone calls this week, but my main one was to my grandma. She just has to know how everything is going as I get moved in and no one gets more joy from my phone calls than her :) I love her so very much. Like I've said before, if you are ever needing some encouragement or need to feel important, just call an old person! (No offense to the old people) but they are just the happiest and most excited about anything that happens in a young person's life! That, and she's my grandma. She always wants the best for me and I'm truly blessed for having a woman like her in my life :) So GO CALL A RELATIVE! They want and need to hear from you! Then come back here and check out resolution 34!

I'm sorry that Resolution 32 is so delayed. It's been a crazy time around here as I head back to school! However, I did complete the resolution in a timely manner, I just hadn't gotten around to posting it yet! The resolution was to buy 3 things for a dollar (or under). Though some of you may think "Duh, that's so easy", please keep in mind that I had to complete this task at the Iowa State Fair, where you are lucky if you find one thing for a dollar! But I buckled down and headed to the infamous "junk tent" or "flea market" area of the fair, where I found the little gems that you see in the photo! 1 comb, 1 Dale Earnhardt bottle opener, and 1 very annoying whistle. All for the grand total of......60 cents!! :) I know, I was pretty impressed too! They all came in rather handy, except the whistle. I just wanted the whistle to "accidentally" end up in a trash can, but it survived the ENTIRE fair. (Much to my dismay) Either way, in this expensive world we live in, you can rest assured knowing that it is possible to buy 3 things for a dollar or less! At least three things other than Double Bubble for 10 cents a piece at a little league ball game... Anyway, resolution 33 will be posted NOW and resolution 34 in a couple days. Let's get back on track, shall we?? Thanks readers!

...what addiction feels like! It's safe to say that I struggled with not having Facebook this last week. In fact I knew I was going to struggle with it so much that I deleted the application off my phone, along with Twitter! But I will say that it felt really nice to not have to worry about my phone or what was going on in everyone else's lives this week. But I will say that I have some pretty awesome blog followers who left me some encouragement to come back to! I had Facebook messages welcoming me back, but letting me know that it was cheating if I read it before Thursday! :) what awesome friends. However, though I never got on my own Facebook, you wouldn't believe how many times other people told me to look at something and it was on their Facebook! Not an easy thing to avoid. I think it's safe to say that Facebook is well beyond a "household name" and I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing. What are your thoughts?? Would you completely delete your Facebook just to get back to the way things were?? Just some things to think about! :) Thanks for the encouragement, and 17 notifications to come back to! It made this resolution one of anticipation and excitement! Resolution 32 coming right up :)

Resolution 30 definitely got
done in the last week! While on my mission trip to Denton, Texas, I had the amazing privilege to worship with 1,200 students and the band Unhindered, twice a day! I don't know about you, but music is my thing. It's how I connect with people, myself, and especially The Lord. So when there are that many people in a coliseum and you are all praising and worshipping God, it's pretty amazing! Here's a clip from the awesome praising we were doing: http://youtu.be/4IqXlr4wyq4 Thank you for reading and Resolution 31 is coming right up!

Resolution 29 was a...
God thing for sure.
Not just because it was about church, but the timing of it too! As I type this (almost 2 days late) I am in Denton, TX serving The Lord Our God with Student Life Ministries. While here, my youth group and I study The Word about 6 hours a day, while holding a bible camp for neighborhood kids at an apartment complex. Today was our last full day, and we have one more worship service before we go home tomorrow.
God put this resolution in my life this week so that I would be aware that I am worshiping with people every day this week who are from every sort of Christian church (we are the only Presbyterian Church) but no matter who I’m worshipping with, it doesn’t matter. The beautiful thing is that we are all worshipping the same all loving God. And through him we are all brothers and sisters. And that, my friends, is the Good News. Hear that news and be joyful :) Thank The Lord for opening my eyes to that this week, and SO many other great things.
Again, sorry about my tardiness, but thank you for reading. God Bless!

Resolution 28 worked out...
rather well!
For those of you who don’t know, I play the trumpet. My resolution was to find a place to perform in one week. Now, I could have cheated and used my weekly performance with the Oskaloosa City Band as a cop out, but I’m no cheater!
Okay, so in order to understand my performance, you must first understand where I was. Every Tuesday and Thursday, my grandma goes to a sort of “adult daycare" in Newton called Willowbrook. Older people who don’t need a nursing home but need some extra time to socialize during the week go to Willowbrook for the day. They exercise, eat, sleep, and play the meanest game of dominoes you have ever seen.
So, anyway, I went to Willowbrook and I was the Tuesday Entertainment! They even brought some folks over from the nursing home. It was a rather gratifying experience, and man do older people know how to be thankful and appreciate something. I hope I’m a super thankful grandparent someday! I mean really, do you ever notice that?? Grandparents or older people just embrace every little detail until I don’t think it’s quite possible to get anymore good out of it! And I think it’s awesome, but does that come with age?? Because I don’t feel like I’m quite that appreciative yet…
I guess I have something to work on!
Anyway, sorry this blog is a bit late. Time escapes me. God Bless and thank you for reading :)

Okay so Resolution 27 was actually...
a lot of fun :)
This being because I am, um, OBSESSED with music, so I will take any opportunity I get to justify my love for songs!  I will say that I was a little nervous, though. I have a few songs on my iPhone that I don't even approve of, so I was pleasantly surprised when I loved all the songs that played.  I mean, come on...you know you do it.  You put your iPod, iPad, iPhone, mp3 player, whatever you have on shuffle, and then you hit "next", "next", "next" until you get to a song that you almost enjoyed like 3 years ago.  Let's be honest, sometimes even our music needs a little spring cleaning.  So here is my list of the first 10 songs that came on my iPhone when I hit that daunting "shuffle" button!
1) The Old Stuff - Garth Brooks...Alright, I will never believe that I have to justify myself to play Garth Brooks anytime, or anywhere.  This is the man that I was raised on! I should have to justify myself if I don't have him playing at least every other song.  What I love about this song is that Garth is just telling you how he made it big and everything it took to get there! Lots of small town gigs and all.  Not a lot of people liked Garth at first.  He brought a whole new twang to country, and made his mark in history.  He's well loved by me, that's for sure!
2) Drink One For Me - Jason Aldean...This song kinda hits home.  I mean, I moved a thousand miles from home and left behind all of my dearest friends.  This song kind of tells how Aldean feels as he travels away from home and his friends and misses out on some of the good times they are having together.  Just wants them to drink one for him!
3) Fit For A King - Garth Brooks...Hey, I said he should be playing every other song, and by golly he did! But man, what an awesome song. If you've never heard it, it talks about a man who is in tattered clothes and stands on the corner of the street preaching God's word. Here's the chorus:
Son, it ain't what you're driving
Or the clothes that you wear
Material possessions
Won't matter up there
  And someday in heaven
When the angels all sing
Well these rags that I'm wearin'
Will be fit for a king
Oh my goodness, just too much awesome in one chorus. Thank you Garth for being amazing :)
4) My Little Girl - Tim McGraw...Brings a tear to my eye every time! This was one of the songs on my senior video when I graduated from high school, and it just tugs at the heart strings. No man will ever beat my daddy when it comes to lovin' me, and this song says it so well!
5) Count Bubba - Big Phat Band...This is one of the songs that my jazz band played this spring at Texas State, and man does it swing hard. I love it, and I was quite surprised that this was the ONLY jazz song to come up on shuffle.  But it was a good one for sure.  Check it out :)
6) Remember Me - Journey...AWHHH, I freaking LOVE this song.  I mean, it's Journey. What's not to love?  Such a great love song, and a great one to listen to if you want to cry over a heartbreak! Someone call Taylor Swift, Journey knows how to write a good breakup song...
7) Learn To Be Still - The Eagles...This is just another band that I should not have to justify! This song can be interpreted in so many different ways, but I think that it kind of has to do with someone who is never satisfied.   They fill their voids with false gods, with drugs, sex, anything that will fill the void of this imperfect world.  I think the origin of this song comes from when Christ told the waters to "be still".  Let Him be the Shepard and still your wandering heart.
8) Wrapped - George Strait...Gotta have The King in here somewhere! This is a cute song and man George was in loooove when he wrote it! Speechless and wrapped around her pretty little finger again :) Every woman's goal in life is to have a man think of her like that!
9) Better Now - Rascal Flatts...Dwelling in the past with this song.  We all make mistakes. Maybe wish you wouldn't have let someone slip through your fingers? Well, this is the song for you.  That's the great thing about country music, there is something for everyone to relate to.
10) Leaving On A Jet Plane - Chantal Kreviazuk...Okay, we all know the original by John Denver, but this remake was done for the movie Armageddon, which I will always believe has the BEST soundtrack of any movie.  Check it out...seriously. Anyway, this version is pretty great.
So, that was a long resolution, but thanks for sticking it out with me! I will be keeping all of those songs in my library, but we all might need to do a little "summer cleaning".  Let me know what songs pop up on your shuffle, maybe I need to do some "summer adding" too! Anyway, thanks for reading, and go jam out! :)
