Sunshine pushes the seeds into their little cups of dirt, wriggling happily where she’s sat on top of the workbench. Mountain’s favorite playlist to work to plays over the little speaker in the corner of the greenhouse, and she jabs her finger into the soil in time to the music. A cool breeze seeps in from the open doors, fresh and floral spring air intermittently cutting through the humidity as they work together to prep herbs and pepper plants. It’s easy; no place she’d rather be. Sunshine croons along with the rich tenor voice of the song, tail thumping against the leg of the table.

The song fades out and another one begins, the bass plucking out a simple two note rhythm. Mountain perks up from his soil mixing station, looking over to Sunny with a goofy grin on his face. She knows the song, and his routine to it, but it doesn’t make her any less giddy. He sways his hips when the guitar comes in, walking over to her as he snaps his fingers perfectly on beat, miming the drum opening and crooning (slightly off key but still on beat):

I’ve got sunshi-i-ine . . . on a cloudy da-a-ay. He holds his hands out to her. When it’s cold outsi-i-ide, I-I’ve got the month of May. His hands are gritty as she takes them, hopping off the bench and smiling big.

His voice cracks as he tries to hit the high notes on the ooh’s, to which Sunny shakes her head at him, presses their foreheads together, and teasingly sings the correct notes against his lips. He chuckles and pecks at her lips. The instrumental bridge slows them down, and Mountain places her back down onto the ground. But he doesn’t let her go, taking her hands instead and pushing and pulling them in alternating directions with a silly flair.

“How’re you so perfect, my sweet, sunshine-y girl?” he asks her.

Sunny rolls her eyes and smiles. “Do you like me or something?” she jests.

“Maybe just a little.” He lifts one of her hands and kisses her knuckles. A little olive blush graces his cheeks, and it’s the cutest thing she’s ever seen.

Sunshine tugs her hand back when he doesn’t stop kissing it, yanking him back to their task. “Come on, loverboy, we’ve got seeds to plant, yeah?”

“Do you want to switch for a bit? I know that,” he gestures to her stack of seedling trays, “gets tedious after a while.”

“You just want to stare at my ass bending over the soil bags.”

Mountain just shrugs. “Guilty.”

Ooo yes I really do love the idea of Dream "sharing" Hob with the major arcana!!! It's kind of a new thing ever since Dream returned from his imprisonment; a way for him to reconnect with these parts of himself that have become distant. But as wholesome as all that is, of course it leads to debauched shenanigans.

And Hob has never been fucked by an entire landscape before, so he's having a great time. Fiddler's Green is so much more thorough than any lover Hob has ever had - maybe because he moves and manipulates Hob’s body in a totally way totally different to how a being with hands and genitals would. He delves inside Hob like he's searching for the perfect place to plant a seed, and fuck if that isn't incredibly arousing.

But Fiddler's Green does like to tease, and its beautiful agony for Hob. He gets stretched open and exposed without having the thick shaft of something inside him that he craves. Gilbert could definitely fuck him full with some kind of plant-based phallic instrument, but he simply chooses not to. He likes having Hob wide open and gaping. Daily album review:

Lust- lords of acid deluxe remastered whatever

Take control- classic arena new beat jam but the song dragged a little bit and was a little cluttered 5/10

Rough sex- cornball perfection from the strings to the whistles 8/10 bc some variety would've been nice in the timbre

Let's get high- this is so fun omg fully renders die antwoord obsolete they're really firing on all cylinders here 9/10 for monotony after the first drop though they pick it up towards the end though

The most wonderful girl: raunchy and camp mid energy banger maintains its inertia better than some of the other tracks I think the vocals could've used more ramge though 7/10 a peak in energy would've been nice

I sit on acid 9/10 I like the part where she says I wanna sit on your face roughly 60 times I'm surprised this isnt more of a staple in gay clubs the only reason it isn't a 10/10 is bc the two remixes are better

So at the end of every year, I always find it interesting to see how my music taste has changed throughout the year. Which is why I LOVE Spotify Wrapped day and seeing what my top 5 songs of the year were. And this year, I was actually kinda surprised.

Now, it’s not wrong, I absolutely played these songs a bunch, but I wouldn’t say they were my FAVORITE songs this year. They just came out very early in the year and were able to add up plays before anything else. So that got me thinking, what were my FAVORITE songs this year? Not the ones that I played the most, but what had the most impact, whether it just be an earworm or the meaning of the song. So why not write and list them out! I like analyzing my thoughts too much.

I’ll keep my choices to just one song per artist. It'll be however many songs I wanna add. Details don’t really matter, it’s my list, I add whatever I want. Expect a VERY long posts and a lot of links to songs if you want to check them out. (DO IT. I swear I have good music taste.)

1) First off, I gotta start with DO BETTER by Ab-Soul off of his latest album HERBERT. Ab-Soul has been in my top 5 rappers probably for the past decade and my second favorite of TDE other than Kendrick. HERBERT was his most personal album to date, and nothing shows that better than DO BETTER. A lot of his album is inspired by the events that happened in his life during the pandemic including one of his best friends dying and his own failed suicide attempt and his subsequent trip to rehab. You can easily hear all the pain and survivor's guilt he has, but also the determination to turn around and come out stronger. The instrumentation is both extremely haunting and calming. I always come out of this feeling inspired to deal with my own issues. The line "I gotta do better, I gotta do better, I guided you better. There's nothing they can do that I can't do better. Better yet, there's nothing I can do that I can't do better. Yeah, I'm better," never stops giving me chills.

2) I've been slowly getting into EDM these past couple years. And one big part of my learning of the genre is Skrillex, who came back and surprise dropped TWO albums in TWO days. And both were really good albums that showed multiple different styles of EDM. Whether you prefer more dark and grungy beats like the songs in Quest For Fire, or if you rather have more bright, poppy sounds in Don't Get Too Close, there will be something for you in these two albums. The song that most stood out to me though was a good mix of the two with the opener for Quest For Fire, Leave Me Like This. The standout part of this song is the earworm of a vocal hook, which gives a wonderful strong melodic element to the song. Combined with the synths creates a strong hypnotic pre-drop section for the song. Of course the drop contains the more grungy parts of the song, especially the growly bass the introduces the drop of the song. But my favorite part of this section tis the repeated, pitched up "left, right, left" chant helps keep the rhythmic center in the song as the drums get more complex in the drop. Even if you don't enjoy EDM music, I'd listen to Skrillex's new releases because you get such a different arrangement of sounds and really see his versatility.

3) Anyone who knows me knows that I have been horribly addicted to hyperpop these past three years and it is definitely unhealthy to my ear drums. And 100 gecs has absolutely been in my top 3 hyperpop artists since they came out. So when they announced they were releasing an album this year, it was instantly one of my most anticipated albums of this year. And they absolutely delivered with 10000 Gecs. They continue to create inventive music with the same brashness, humor, and insanity that drew me to them in the first place. And I'd say this album is just slightly less abrasive to new fans than their past album. Nothing anywhere near as crazy as Money Machine, but all of the tracks contain the unique brand of energy and mix of hip-hop, rock, and pop, with and added element of ska on some songs like I Got My Tooth Removed and Frog On The Floor. But my favorite has to go to the opener of this album, Dumbest Girl Alive. Right away with the first 15 seconds, you can tell they're back on their bullshit with the opening guitar riff and gunshot impacts. And as soon as the drums come in, you get their wonderful blown out sound where I can't help but turn up my speakers to the max. But the obvious standout of this track is Laura Les's performance of this track. A super catchy melody, an earworm of a recurring phrase, "I'm the dumbest girl alive," and multiple quotable lines create a great verse. Plus the bouncy bass continuing with it creates such a wonderful short track that makes me just want to keep repeating it over and over again.

4) The more music I listen to, the more I am drawn to the weird, more eclectic styles of music. Especially with hip-hop, with so much getting made, only the really unique stuff sticks out to me now. Luckily that's the exact type of music Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA make and together they made one of the best hip-hop albums of this year with Scaring The Hoes. And this music will, in fact, scare the hoes.

JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown are already well known in the Abstract Hip-hop genre, each being strongly characterized by their unique self-production and unique delivery respectively. Both of them have their own unique strength and coming together, they create a landscape of sounds and tracks that you will not hear on any other hip-hop album this year. As has become pretty evident, I'm a sucker for intros. And this album is no different because the intro, Lean Beef Patty, is easily my favorite from this album and was also in my top 5 songs played this year. Even though this song is just 2 minutes, it contains my favorite things about both artists. A sped up sample almost drowned out by the rest of the production, a signature of JPEGMAFIA production. Brash, bold lyrics from JPEGMAFIA such as "Fuck y'all niggas, I feel like Papa John," and "Fuck Elon Musk, eight dollars too much," which honestly just became the slogan for the year. Finally Danny Brown's energy and delivery give an exciting final verse to this song. And wonderful way to start one of the best albums of the year.

5) A group that came out of nowhere for me was grouptherapy. grouptherapy. is a music group consisting of Jadagrace, TJOnline, and SWIM. Their new album "i was mature for my age, but i was still a child" popped up randomly in my Spotify and I was surprised by the quality of there sounds, their charisma, and their chemistry. Each artist clearly has their own style that fits well with the other two and they all trade off so well in each of their tracks, which is essential to a good group dynamic.

Their new album has multiple standouts that show all of the groups' talents such as American Psycho and FUNKFEST. But my personal favorite off of this album is "club song :(" where Jadagrace takes the front stage in a mainly acoustic guitar song. Her voice is allowed to take a front seat and it creates a striking and kinda haunting melody. TJOnline joins in the latter half of the song to add some well added harmony to the song. This was the song that I kept coming back to from this project. Check this group out, cause they should have much more buzz than they have now.

6) Every once in a while, you'll be at a concert and you'll see an opening act that completely surprises you. And then afterwards, you slowly see them gaining more and more clout as they slowly grow to superstardom. That happened to me with Jordan Ward. I had the opportunity to see him perform and a JID x Smino concert as the opener and he absolutely impressed with his energy and singing.

I forgot about him until he released the deluxe version of him latest album FORWARD. I remembered his name and decided to listen finally and he has everything to be one of the next RnB stars. Since then, his album is one a bunch of top albums of the year lists and has even had a NPR tiny desk concert.

My favorite of his so far is MUSTARD. The guitar arpeggiating the chords, the slightly pitched up vocals, and live played drums on this track just work in the best way. 6lack also joins and adds a great second verse. Listen to him, he's gonna be up next soon and you'll want to see his rise.

7) Finally, there's the artist of the year for me, Underscores. I've known of them for a while, but only REALLY got into their music this year. I devoured their last two albums and have been playing them on repeat all year until she announced her new album Wallsocket. It was easily my most anticipated album this year and luckily it exceeded all expectations.

Underscores is a very hard artist to describe because she was one of the hyperpop classic artists but has evolved her sound beyond that. There is still some of that overblown hip-hop, dance pop sound around her music, but there is also more of what I'd say is folk rock in there now with this album. Either way, she still manages to produces some of the most unique soundscapes that I've heard this year.

All three of her singles that she released were in completely different areas. The rock focused "Cops and Robbers", the creepy, slow, and uncomfortable "You don't even know who I am", or the dance EDM focused "Locals (Girls like us)" had be so confused about what the sound of the album would be like. All it did was build up the hype and so I HAD to watch the livestream of the album on release day. And that is easily on of my favorite memories of the year, freaking out with the chat as we uncovered how good of an album this is.

While every song on this project is wonderful, the song the immediately attached itself to my brain was "Uncanny long arms". The song structure here is just hypnotizing to me. The quiet opening of the song going into the first chorus and the first "I can touch my toes" belt is forever into my mind. And the vocal stuttering and breakdown afterwards let me know this song was special immediately but it only gets better.

Jane Remover has a standout second verse on this song and her voice sounds angelic and just floats over the guitar. She had an amazing year in her own career and this song is a standout moment. Her turn on the chorus is even better with added instrumentation and the pure emotion you hear in her voice.

But easily the favorite part of this track to me is the outro, which to long underscores fans will be no surprise. The song being stripped down before jumping right into a bombastic, more rock version of "Kinko's field trip" brought me right back to 2021 and I damn near screamed hearing this on the live stream. Easily my favorite music moment and favorite song of this year. Listen to underscores everyone, you won't regret it.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

I don't have anywhere near as much to say about these songs, but I still want to bring them up because they're fun and were big parts of this year for me.

Stasis - leastfavorite!: Discovered her this year and she is another hyperpop artist that I think deserves more recognition. She released her first EP late last year so listen to it!

nothing2say - Jay Kim: Another artist I discovered this year but released an EP last year. Not really hyperpop, more midwest emo vibes with a little bit of brakence vibes with him. But another album that I'm excited to see grow after listening to them this year.

Damage Gets Done - Hozier: I shouldn't have to say this on this website, but Hozier is a pretty good artist. I listened to the new album he dropped this year and this duet was a standout to me and just couldn't get out of my head.

Maybe Man - AJR: As we now know, I'm a sucker for openers, and damn, is AJR good at them. They always make them fit the themes and sounds of the albums so well. "Maybe Man" is no exception. Probably would've made it onto the favorites list is it came out sooner.

As with any human, I have my biases. There's things I like more than others, games I'm more drawn to than others, music I'm more drawn to than others. A huge part of that bias is formed by nostalgia - and as explained back in Neon Wi-Fi, there are few games that I am as nostalgic for in terms of sheer vibes and atmosphere, than Mario Kart Wii. The "Glass Ocean" aesthetic the whole game is coated in, the menues, the UI, the sheen and bloom of the visuals: the sleek, clean beauty of the future...there are few games where I will listen to every rip of them, but Mario Kart Wii sits atop of that list, because its aesthetic has just enamored me so much. I watched Sweatpants Select immediately when it was uploaded back in 2018 as a result, and with the rip now sitting at 400 thousand views, its amazing to see that its not just me who truly clicks with the game's beauty.

That's of course not to say that Sweatpants Select is only good because its using Mario Kart Wii music - its an incredible rip because NutellaFrenchToast went whole hog in realizing its concept to the fullest, in a way that feels shockingly modern for a rip from six years ago. Yes, this is a hip-hop/rap music mashup, "rip-hop", in a similar vein to Chance's Return to Dreamland and kirby will never have drip *spits out cereal*, but you can immediately tell what sets this rip in particular apart from the rest. The two tracks, Main Menu from Mario Kart Wii and Sweatpants by Childish Gambino, are interwoven with one another in such a cool way - Sweatpants' vocals are complimented not just by Main Menu's melody, but by the repeating sounds of Mario fireballs and shouts from Toad, replicating pieces from the original track's beat. That's cool as shit on its own, of course, even as someone who hasn't listened much to Childish Gambino (take a shot) outside of SiIva, its incredible just how this mashup with those simple additions turns a chill menu theme into an outright banger - but there's yet more to come.

Because yes, this rip does the silly little trick that ALWAYS works for me - ESCALATION. A very cool trait with Mario Kart Wii's menues was how the music was dynamic per each section, as it added instruments to the track when selecting your character, then added yet more when selecting the racetrack itself - and Sweatpants Select synchronizes this trait with Sweatpants' beat drop as the chorus begins. "Are you eatin' tho?" is said with the entire rest of the backing silent, then it all returns at once with the menu music changed to the character select variant. It hits like CRAZY - rips like Door into a Hundred Summers have shown how effective it can be to change the backing VGM to rips like this, but to change the beat to more-dense variants like this is just as sick without losing any of the cohesion.

As a cherry on top of it all, of course, there's the car-starting joke, beautifully preserved from Sweatpants. Paired with the 3-2-1-GO countdown of a Mario Kart Wii race, Gambino sings about vroom-vrooming in his Fisker car, but pauses the music - and the entire rip by extension, including the added start-race sounds - to explain that his car actually doesn't make sounds when it starts up. After the track has already elevated itself twice over with the changes in backing VGM, this is just the perfect touch on top, a sign of just how closely NutellaFrenchToast understood each of the pieces they were working with so thoroughly. That proficiency was of course never something I doubted - Like the Legend of the Ho-Oh and especially We Are Number 4 (Golden) paint them as someone who understands detail like nothing else. Only here, Sweatpants Select applies that same level of care to a track I'm forever emotionally tied to as a Mario Kart Wii fan - creating a banger that exceeds my expectations on every front.

Here’s some softness…

I’m a musician myself, I mainly sing/songwrite. So for me, it always been ideal to find a partner who lives in the same realm where everything is a lot of thoughts are music driven or related. So sometimes I imagine what it would be like to just be able to share the love language that is music w/ the boys. Or even just lounge around where you could bounce off each other creatively.

With Jake, I could picture him just playing freely and you just sit and listen, basking in the sounds of him eventually crafting together a melody. And then he looks at you, noticing that you too are enveloped in whatever is fueling him on and he asks you to sing over it. Because he loves when he thinks he’s found what he was looking for just for you to come in w/ a different narrative he didn’t hear, revealing pieces of a puzzle he never thought were missing. And just as you always take him and his playing in with awe, his mind stills and he becomes breathless and mystified every time he hears you sing. He holds your gaze w/ pride in his eyes. And the two of you just become this force, individually beautiful arrangements, but threading them together, not overpowering, each of you still listening to the other, balancing each other out w/ harmonies and countermelodies. Until you two are completely captivated in the trance y’all fabricated and y’all explore this small realm y’all exist in. I also have this image of Jake facetiming you late just anxious or sad during one of his off days while on tour, bc those tend to be the hardest when he might be stuck in a hotel room or bus. And he just wants to hear you bc he’s having a bad mental health day and can’t sleep. You see his contact light up your screen and your stomach flips when you see it, but quickly drops when you hear his tone and you can only see his ceiling. You simply ask him whats wrong and he immediately opens up like he has been dying to you to ask him all day, “I don’t know. It’s just one of those days, you know? Something has been in the room w/ me all day, pushing and shoving me around, scattering all my thoughts to make itself known. And I can’t even tell you what IT IS, just that it won’t let me sleep now either and we have a show tomorrow.” You gently reassure him that he is okay and is safe and that you love him and ask if there is anything you can do. His voice timid, ever so slightly breaking, he requests, “Can you- Can you just sing until I fall asleep?” You walk w/ your phone to your piano and begin playing some chords. You venture into Age of Worry by John Mayer in the style of YEBBA, and then move into Behind That Locked Door by George Harrison. Once you let off the keys, you listen closely to hear soft snores finally sounding from your phone and end the call w/ a whispered “I love you.”

With Josh, I feel as if you would be able hear him singing from across the house. It’s a slow soulful tune you recognize, so you move toward the melody until you find him. His face lights up the moment he spots you and hears you start harmonizing w/ him. He motions you a “C’mere” and you walk over to him. He takes your hands in his and places them on his neck and he smooths his hands over your hips and places on the small of your back, He leans into you swaying you to the beat of the song y’all are singing. The both of you just slow dance around the room while y’all finish serenading each other. Once it’s silent, still swaying you feel him smile against your cheek and he whispers “I love how beautifully my voice blends to yours.”

I could also see Josh coming to you when he sees that you’re in a creative plane sitting next to you at your instrument while you play w melodies. When you pause, he hands you a notebook saying, “Here, I wrote this for you. Will you sing it?” And he just sits and listens to you wide eyed and enraptured by you applying his words he gifted to you to the melody, and eventually he starts sing under you w/ harmony. Once you both break, he tells you how much he is in love w/ your voice and just loves listening to you, words that always stun you when they come from him.

Sam, I feel like sees the world through a more logical lens and moves w/ ingenuity in everystep. This makes me think it would be fun to dissect music w/ him, especially bc Ik he likes jazz. Some of my favorites range from Paul Desmond, Bill Evans, Jim Hall, to John Coltrane, and Oscar Peterson and i just know it would be so fun to listen to these w/ Sam. It’s a lazy afternoon and it starts pouring outside, so you innocently put on a jazz record w/ intentions of just listening not challenging yourself. You lay down and he curls up on top of you and you both enjoy the crackle of the needle against the rain. But it’s not too long until you both really start to ingest the music, and being the analytical musicians you are, you both get into it. Pretty soon it’s back and forth w/ “Well what story do you think he’s telling here?” and “What do you think he was feeling here?” or “Do you think that phrase was a reference to this piece written here?” and “Can you hear the rhythm and the melody commutating in this part?” Until eventually y’all mentally wear each other out. Still laid together y’all are lulled to sleep by the jazz and soothing rain. But not before Sam tells you how much he appreciates and loves your musical intellect and how it’s one of his favorite things about you.

As far as Danny, I feel as if that’s his favorite way to spend time w you. Like w/ the other boys it kind of happens organically, but Danny would plan a day out of it. He might come wake you up and while you eat breakfast he’s quizzing w/ ideas for lyrics and melodies. And as y’all sit in his studio piecing it together, he makes sure to get your input on every note. And he eventually talks you into the booth, telling you he only wants to here this from you, and records you playing and singing the song the both of you just birthed. He adds it to his collection of songs that had been through the same process, and he listens to them when he’s far way and homesick for you.

Dong Min (이동민; born Mar 30, 1997), better known as Cha Eunwoo (차은우), is a South Korean actor, model, singer, and member of the Kpop group Astro under Fantiago Entertainment. He made his debut as an actor in the movie My Brilliant Life in 2014. He debuted with Astro on Feb 23, 2016.

10 NEW SONGS - 3/15/24

Some disappointing releases from some big artists today (*cough cough* Justin Timberlake *cough cough* Kacey Musgraves), but overall, a ton of new tunes today. Let’s get it.

P.S. To the 3 people who read this, next week is about to be a DOOZIE for new music. Full albums from Waxahatchee, Khruangbin, Good Morning, SiR, Matt Champion, and Future x Metro Boomin’, and that’s not even including any singles that will inevitably be dropping as well. What a year for music. Anyways, here we go.

1. I Guess - Lizzy McAlpine

Lizzy’s just going to keep dropping heat, eh? Absolutely adore this. The “beat drop” around two and a half minutes in borders on being a tiny bit corny, but also reminds me of Fleet Foxes, and I bet that melodic chant at the end will be fun to sing at her live shows. Really appreciate the choices she’s making production-wise, including brass horns and Phoebe Bridgers-esque electronic indie sounds to add some texture.

2. Classical - Vampire Weekend

Probably my favorite of the three singles Vampire Weekend has dropped so far. For lack of a better term, it’s just a classic VW song. That little synth lead (maybe synth? Genuinely cannot place what instrument I’m hearing) on the hook / chorus makes me want to hit an Irish jig, just in time for St Patrick’s Day. Really beautiful piano on the 2nd half of this (played by Ezra Koenig himself, according to Genius!).

3. HATE YOUR GUTS - INJI

It always blows me away when artists I’ve barely heard of casually have production like THIS so early in their careers. I heard “GASLIGHT” by INJI at some point last year and was immediately entranced - she’s done it again here. Her Spotify bio reads “making music you can scream along to :)” and that is exactly what my ass will be doing when that chorus comes on. This kind of lands somewhere between Kim Petras (sonically) and Olivia Rodrigo (thematically). If you feel like you’re in the middle of that Venn diagram, this is absolutely worth a listen.

4. Down Swinging - Holly Humberstone

Holly Humberstone is the queen of “pretty sad songs that absolutely slap.” I love the chord progression when she sings “Watch me keep my cool tonight”. Also enjoyed the unexpected saxophone appearance.

5. Neva (feat. Monaleo) - Flo Milli

This was a standout from Flo Milli’s new album Fine Ho, Stay. The Juicy J x Lex Luther production was not something I expected to hear on a Flo Milli album but she sounds super comfortable here - I’m not used to hearing her on the more laid-back beats, but I dig it. Things I also dig: how her name appears on the album art like the VH1 logo back in the day.

6. BURNING BRAINS - Tierra Whack

I was a bit nervous going into this album considering my disdain for the two singles Tierra Whack had dropped for it, but I was delightfully surprised to hear quite a few songs I enjoyed. “BURNING BRAINS” specifically stood out to me. That chorus - “Soup too hot, ice too cold / Grass too green, sky too blue” - combined with the slow, prodding beat makes for a sad, depressing ass vibe, but one that I enjoy living in for a few minutes. Hip-hop has felt quite stale lately, so I appreciate Tierra doing something different and outside the box.

7. Enough (Miami) - Cardi B

Nothing crazy from Ms. Cardi here but it feels like a proper return to form - a catchy pop-rap beat, energetic raps, some memorable bars. No complaints!

8. Lonely Millionaire - Kacey Musgraves

This new Kacey Musgraves album was not for me, but this one landed - at least more than anything else did on Deeper Well. The “what good is being rich if you’re alone” sentiment is one that often works for me (thinking about Kanye West on “Welcome to Heartbreak”). Nothing revolutionary happening here, but the chords are nice, it’s a laid back vibe, and I can appreciate the message. More of this!

9. What Lovers Do - Justin Timberlake

This new Justin Timberlake album was ABSOLUTELY not for me, but there’s something funny about me perking up and enjoying the production on this song specifically only to realize it’s one of the few that Timbaland contributed to. Do I need to hear a 43-year-old JT sing about banging Jessica Biel? Absolutely not. But if he’s going to do it, at least he’s singing over a smooth ass Timbaland beat. I’m also really struggling to get to 10 songs now, so on a stronger week, I would have been happy to completely ignore this one. Alas!

10. STOP BY (feat. Garret Sparrow, Max Leonard, & Joshua Raw) - Bilking With Francis

I know truly nothing about Biking With Francis, nor do I know anything about the featured artists. But I heard this on my Discover Weekly on Spotify a few days ago and was so impressed by how catchy it is. Steve Lacy-esque production and I can’t get enough of this hook - I genuinely wish this was longer than 3 minutes.

The first and last terms are self-explanatory. 人類 Jinrui, for example, refers to mankind or humanity while 計画 Keikaku means a plan or project. The problem then arises with the middle term 補完 Hokan which is usually translated as ʻinstrumentalityʼ in English. The Kanji 補完 Hokan is a combination of two characters. On the one hand, the character 補 Ho means to supply or compensate.

In Chinese, it means to repair something thatʼs broken. On the other hand, 完 Kan simply means finish; end or complete. A combination of the two will thus create 補完 Hokan which can be nicely translated as completion; complementation or perfection. Hence, 人類補完計画 Jinrui Hokan Keikaku roughly translates to ʻHumanityʼs Completion/Complementation/Perfection Project'. Therefore, what is the inherent failure, lack and imperfection within humans that SEELE desperately wants to overcome?
