as i think about aang trauma blocking his death out his memory as he gets older, i also remember that his back scar faded significantly throughout book 3 while his foot scar never did.

and the fact that this is something that aang would never request or even think about.

but katara would. and she’ll never forget no matter how much his scar fades. now i can’t get the image of her healing his back in between episodes out of my head :(

idk if this was artist discretion or intentional. i guess we’ll have to see in the gaang movie

it’s so wild to me that outside of the old ba sing se caverns, no one in the gaang once brings up zukos scar. it’s kinda sweet in a way i guess when sokka refers to him in season 2 as a freak with a “ponytail” and not scar, but it’s still just odd

Chapter 17

NOTE: The last Chapter 17 was in fact Chapter 18. So I had to back post this. Sorry for the confusion, y'all.

Fandom: Avatar the Last Airbender

Summary: Music night washes over Iroh. The crew’s attention  on each other means no one notices  their allegedly ill prince slipping over the side of the Wani and onto the dock.

Zuko, as The Blue Spirit, is leaving to meet another White Lotus Bud agent to exchange information on the Earth Armies for similar details on Fire Nation troops.

The White Lotus Buds are more successful than Iroh expected. Sometimes he thinks the war would end in days if they left the operatives in charge.

The White Lotus Buds were inspired by Zuko himself. It wasn’t difficult to connect The Blue Spirit’s earlier escapades with Zuko. Not once one realized there were connections to make.

Iroh does not know when the sneaking began, though he has his suspicions. Ten year old princes don’t go missing for days on end easily. And there’s the  ambiguity surrounding  Azulon’s death and Ursa’s sudden flight. When it started doesn’t truly matter when Zuko will not speak of it.

Shaking off his wandering curiosity, Iroh lets himself be drawn into the singing of an old sea shanty. It helps keep an old man awake, which he will need if he wants to be alert for his nephew’s return later that night.

Rating: Mature

They made it to the Fire Nation and after the blockade everything seemed to be going okay. Zuko was definitely still on their tail and Sokka said they would have to do something about that, but right now they were relatively safe. His friends were even relaxing in the saddle a bit. Even Sokka who’d scared Aang badly when he’d fallen out of the saddle.

Katara looked up at him, she knew the thing she should be feeling was empathy and compassion. Zuko's life had not been easy. And she did! She felt totally compassionate and empathetic, and also a little angry. Because what was she? Some fickle hearted, fair weather, love 'em and leave 'em type?

But if she got mad he'd just get hurt, so ... she leaned into compassion. She leaned into empathy.

"Zuko, I know that falling in love can be scary," she says, "But you kind of just ... have to trust that it'll work out. People don't just grow apart. They don't just fall out of love. Relationships take work. I'm not going to stop working at it, are you?"

characters enter a mud filled portion of the maze, where their footsteps feel heavy, and every push further seems to sink them farther and farther into the mud.

Freaking Angst Muses

So, as I posted about Scrooge last night, I immediately went out to find the song from before “Later Never comes”. And I am listening to it and it made me thinks of a sad idea. Zutara fan’s be warned and bring tissues.

The song is about a couple at their breaking point, and the female singer is begging for her love to listen and just talk with her before she officially leaves - and he keeps telling her ‘Later, later.” But it never comes, and the older version of the man (Scrooge) is reflecting on how she was the key to his happiness and yet he sees his past was a fool for letting her go. And for the idea, here it is:

Katara is trying to talk to Zuko - who is busy with trying to get the kingdom running and safe for them to have a future, but Katara needs him now and keeps trying to get him to listen to her. She is trying and reaching a point where she needs to go.

Iroh knows she loves him and sees Katara about to leave Zuko. While Zuko is confused and consumed with work, Iroh pulls Zuko out of his work mind and tells him what he sees with him and Katara. And maybe some regret he himself might have - and he gets Zuko to follow after Katara before it is too late.

Positive ending, Zuko runs after her and does manage to get to Katara before she leaves on a ship to never return. They stare and he tries to tell her why he had been so consumed with work and promises to not let it intentionally happen again. Katara - knowing he came for her when it mattered - accepts his apologies and comes back with him.

That is all. Hope you liked the bitter sweet short. Now back to work.
