yuuta exhibits such previously abandoned, recently adopted dog behavior. incredibly anxious all the time, even though nobody’s out to get him or leave him behind. waits for you to return home or from school or from work excitedly, just to see you when you walk through the door. follows you around senselessly, hovering in your space just for the sake of companionship. initiates affection in prodding ways—starts off next to you, then a hand on your thigh, then deems it safe to lay all the way down, then slowly pushes his head into your lap. gets up whenever you need to get up, and resumes his position as soon as you’re ready. brings you gifts as a sign that he’s thinking of you, and maybe because he likes the affection it brings out in you, maybe because he likes the gentle affirming touches of a hand in his hair or a pinch to his cheek. rests his head on your stomach or his chin on your shoulder when he’s sleepy, stays there, immobile, and will not move unless absolutely necessary. sometimes he gets surprised when he hears you calling for him, there’s a moment of disbelief as he thinks “me? really? you need me?” but it’s very quickly overshadowed by this compulsive need to show up, to please, to do anything for you, which is why he always answers when you call. he doesn’t realize that he has puppygod eyes, especially when he’s excited or confused, but he does and it’s incredible endearing. very reluctant to share your space or attention after a while, considers that to be sacred and he won’t risk being let go or lost again, so as a safety precaution, he keeps himself right by you, waits for you always.

Someone’s gotta do a critical study of those TikTok-type point of view videos of, you know, getting bullied by a cool girl when you were in sixth grade, or having your mother-in-law be rude to you, or getting the brush-off after paying a visit your divorced dad wasn’t expecting (not a hypothetical, had this just inexplicably pop up on my YouTube Recommended), I think they started out as observational comedy skits with the occasional cathartic edge and resonated because so many people relate to them, but at what point are they an exercise in deliberately putting yourself in a bad mood (as opposed to accidentally putting yourself in a bad mood, which is the typical practice of social media)? And at what point beyond that are they just training videos teaching you how to hate more types of people and bundle loaded assumptions about them into your interactions, should you encounter them in real life? Because we’re well past that point, baby!

Very Very Far Shot But...
I stumbled upon the concept of this today, and it, uh, struck me and my Dragalia-attuned (among other games) brain.
The word?
Eudaimonia (well, or 'eudaemonia' or even 'eudemonia'). As you might be able to surmise, it is Grecian.
Since it's a bit of a more complicated word in concept, here's snippets of both the good old Wikipedia and Encyclopaedia Britannica regarding it:
Closely following this is the more modern concept of eudaemonism, which is the school of thought that evaluates the worthiness of actions based on their capacity to produce happiness.
But wait, there's more!
There also was a concept of eudaimonias as actual spirits, a sort of guardian angel figure.
And, well. This all sounds vaguely familiar to Euden. He himself in Dragalia lore is something of a symbol of dragalia itself made manifest, creating the ultimate har-har in the game's title after the last chapter. Replace "Euden's dead" everytime you see "Dragalia Lost" and it's darkly amusing. What do you mean, in the game "Euden's dead, in the chapter "Euden's dead" Euden dies? Impossible!- But just as he reforms bridges between people and dragons, so too is Euden very concerned and involved with the flourishing of humanity in all stripes. As leader to New Alberia, he also serves something as a guiding figure for the people who chose to follow him, on both a literal 'big-picture, what do we even do' scale as well as a more personal one, as he pays attention to most every individual he meets.
There's also this snippet regarding the actual 'figure' of the eudaimon:
With dragons in Dragalia being essentially nature personified, 'mother nature bites back' champions of higher, more intangible powers and occasionally all but killable gods themselves with their might, it forms a neat sort of comparison with Euden, the intermediary between them and the 'lesser races' of humanity. Euden himself is already something of an intermediary between the divine and mortal, with the whole Xenos-Morsayati-Nedrick trifecta involved in his creation even if he is himself largely the same as most other human.
Of course, with the whole notion of Greek deified heroes entering the mix and their many ends in mythos, it adds another potential tie in, since, yeah. He dead (after performing supernatural feats).
Dragalia also possibly drew on Greek/Roman inspiration for others in his family so it might not be completely impossible. There's Leonidas, who was most notably a king of Sparta and has a few other little tidbits to him that make me wonder if they drew on him for inspiration, and Marcus Aurelius, who was noted as part of the "Last of the Five Good Emperors" in Ancient Rome, a noted militaristic society like Alberia's. That almost reminds me of Aurelius' status in the main campaign, where he ruled as King for very long and further helped Alberia prosper before it all started going downhill.
So...yeah. Euden as a possible literal manifestation of a eudaemon, eudaemonia and/or eudaemonist himself, anyone?

DO NOT HAVE HIM LOSE A LIFE AROUND ETOILES ....I PHYSICALLY CANNOT HANDLE IT..:.;.;.;.
although,,, all I'm sayin is- the code is very prone to attacking eggs with two lives. and with there only being one person on the island that fits the target...... Something may happen, who knows, especially with the sword being able to remove items in the hand of whoevers attacked,,, - 💿
JAJAJA
I so live for this angst honestly, it HURTS BUT MAN
Anon I am rattling you WHEEZE AJAKJSJA
I just absolutely adore but am also absolutely sobbing at the thought of the Code purposely making sure that Etoiles is watching when it initiates the final strike. It‘s definitely a losing battle from the beginning, filled with unlucky moments. From Phil thinking he set up his stasis chamber when he didn‘t, to not being able to even place a share- or waystone for Phil to escape with. No matter how often Etoiles attempts to get between the Code and Phil, no matter how many times he pushes further and further, it will always ends up in Phil eventually meeting his fate.
I AM HEAD IN HANDS

STOP HIDING PRECIOUS GEM ABOUT HEIZOU in your tags please i-
*tempting the urge to shakes you around violently like a ragdoll*
-🧋
my greatest and most sincere apologies
let me say it not in my tags (i’m doing it from the top of my head and also elaborating slightly so it won’t be word for word):
i think one of the reasons why heizou’s writing and characterisation appeal to me so much is that he feels very realistically written. he’s a good person; kind, selfless, sensitive to others, confident, and yet also reasonable, not self-obsessed or egotistical like one might expect, and not gullible and doesn’t really let his kindness get taken advantage of, sticks to his beliefs, and in essence simply wants to help and improve people, which is a really noble aim in a world and nation as complicated and often cruel as inazuma is.
but he’s also written with flaws: he has insecurities, doesn’t always know what to do despite his intellect, and puts pressure on himself to make those changes for the better he aspires to. he needs help sometimes and isn’t completely capable of doing or solving everything alone.
it’s sort of… moving, in a way, that in a world of gods and adepti and people with insane powers and strength, heizou’s a relatively normal guy who’s trying his best to make the world a better place. it feels very human and not larger than life like some characters are— which of course isn’t a bad thing, but it’s really admirable to see a human having the conviction to this cause, without any expectation or desire for personal gain as a result.
another thing is his vision: despite having one, he rarely uses it for combat unless completely necessary, when he could easily just beat criminals into submission instead. he doesn’t get obsessed with the power he has access to, and relies primarily on his own skills to carry himself through situations and tough spots.
he’s just a good person with selfless intentions doing what he can, and i really admire him for that. in my opinion, he’s one of the most underrated characters in the game.
