Do you still watch and enjoy MCC?

I still enjoy MCC when I get the chance to watch it, but people in the mcyt fandom (mainly people from Dream SMP side of things and fans of streamers who participated in that smp) are driving me insane with their increasing hate reactions each time teams are announced.

Like there are only 40 slots each MCC, people have to rotate out. If it was the same 40 streamers everytime, the competition would have become stale extremely quick! And people don’t seem to understand this! Nor do people seem to understand that these streamers have lives and cannot participate all the time.

I saw the announcement for MCC 35 and instead of the comments being filled of hype for teams and people having to choose who they will be watching like it used to be, it was just filled with “where’s so and so?” And “oh so and so isn’t in this one, guess there’s no point in watching” and more comments along those lines.

I fully understand if your main streamer isn’t participating and has in the past, there might be some disappointment, but there’s still 40 perspectives to watch, there has to be someone you could potentially enjoy playing. Part of this competition is getting to discover, experience and enjoy streamers you don’t typically watch interact with each other! It’s about community! That’s why there’s options for teams to sign up for “fun” and for “competition” cause it’s not all about the competition, there’s layers!!

People were mainly complaining about there being no Wilbur, Ranboo, Philza, Aimsey, Tommy, Tubbo, Guqqie, or Jack, with a few complaining about no Grian. Some of these streamers, like Ranboo, stated that they were done playing in MCC (saw some people saying Philza has also quite but I couldn’t find anything about it) and so you shouldn’t expect them on the teams, for they are moving away from MCC. Others, like Wilbur, have lives outside of being streamers and cannot dedicate the time every month to play.

This used to be a time of fun and bringing different areas of mcyt together for friendly competition, now with each new MCC, all I see is complaining. What happened???

SORRY I know I keep sending you stuff, but I JUST remembered very specific localized mcytblr trend in november-december? Of 2020. There were like. Two or three explicit fics on ao3 posted or popularized around the same time of dwt with a glow squid? I have my posts where it became a thing but for like one week people were constantly talking about the crazy fics with dwt and random very specific things. I think there was a sponge and an enderman too, and there was no conversation, just half of mcytblr being really laughably shocked at its existence.

And (this part is a little disturbing) then there was the fic in the minecraft tag during November 2020 that for weeks was at the very top of the recents tab because the author kept changing the posted date containing like all of the worst things and it had everyone putting up warning posts about it because it was so terribly triggering

AND there was the discussion during exile, when dwt brought up putting cc/c markers in front of creator names to differentiate, where they started calling it lore instead of plot or story and people started posting really sad posts about how they missed calling it the old thing, and that they were using the word lore wrong.

If I remember anything else I will just put it in a huge post and post it in like a month so I don't go overboard I'm sooooo sorry this blog has just unlocked too many memories. Not drawing kristin fat discourse. Whatever was going on with the is fundy-dwt marriage actually canon or is George a homewrecker. That one schlatt thumbnail. Racoon tommyinnit and the chat personifications. EVERYTHING that happened with ranboo and the /p /r wiki edits. The Sapnap George Hannah goes to tubbos house and nearly kills Michael _ and then eret has to go and hide him, oh my gosh it's not even important stuff it's just everything.

no, this is fantastic! i'd completely forgotten about it, but yes, the glow squid fics absolutely happened. i can even try to find the fics, it should be fairly easy-- ao3 has a MUCH better search function than tumblr, as well as letting fics be orphaned instead of deleted.

as for the other fic, i do vaguely remember it-- iirc, it definitely involved patches (dream's cat) and possibly his sister. i think i read it all the way through once, rubbernecking at a car crash style, but i don't recall enough about it to be absolutely sure.

something i just remembered because you brought it up; there was also the "The ___ Fic" series, which was a series of gory, often sexual fics about the dream team. the ones i can remember are "the toe fic" and "the teeth fic", but there were at least ten of them in total.

as for putting everything together in one big post, i would absolutely love that! if you tag me in it when it gets posted, i would absolutely reblog it; it's one thing to archive firsthand posts from the time period, but retrospectives and starting a community dialogue can be instrumental to preserving the things that either weren't saved or were considered so ubiquitous as to not merit an explanation.

this is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but some of you seriously need to relax and shut the fuck up about rpf.

i've seen an increasing amount of people in the hermitcraft and life series fandoms with "not the real people" in their pinned who seem to act like they're somehow better than those who do create/consume rpf. and you guys seriously need to get off your high horse right the fuck now and realise that when properly tagged and not forced on anyone, rpf hurts no one. and this goes for all art that commonly gets looked down on in this fandom, darkfic and non con and kinkfics and whatever else. if something is fictional, if it's properly tagged, if it's not forced on anyone - it hurts no one because it's fiction. more than that, it's art. you cannot and should not place boundaries on creativity. not only does that kind of thinking have serious real life consequences that i won't go into right now, but even within fandom spaces all you will end up doing is hurting the very people you often claim to want to protect.

most of the time i've seen this kind of attitude, it's been exhibited by younger people. and i would just like to remind you - you know how you can admit to writing fics and not be criticised and shamed for it? you know how fanfiction is a widely spread and common thing now? you know how nowadays you don't need to put an "i don't own x" disclaimer in your fic? yeah, the rpf people helped do that. obviously i can't speak for every community as i am just one person in my own tiny corner of the globe, but part of what helped me come to think of fanfic as something normal and not something i had to hide was getting used to the idea of rpf. it was frerard and those fics where someone gets sold to one direction and the normalisation of the 14 year old girl writing fanfics where she marries her crush and has three kids.

you people seem to view rpf as this big disgusting thing that god forbid anyone thinks i engage in or condone. and it makes me think of how i would write fanfiction about my swimmates and show it to them, and we'd all laugh about it. when i was a kid i would imagine myself being friends with celebrities and create fictional problems for them so i could provide emotional support. i still, on occasion, hyperfixate on real people and imagine myself interacting with them somehow. in fact, most of the time in my own head is spent daydreaming about various made-up situations including people i know or used to know, because that is simply how i deal with the real world, my form of escapism and just something i do to keep my messy brain occupied. what i'm getting at here is that rpf is normal. it's not this big awful sin. there is literally nothing remarkable whatsoever about the idea that someone would see something in real life and be inspired to turn it to art.

you get nothing from throwing other people also part of your community under the bus when there are those who would get rid of you all. you get nothing from being a dick, from spreading shame and disgust and assigning moral weight to things that cause zero harm. your knee-jerk reaction at something that makes you uncomfortable is not the end all be all of what's right and what deserves to exist. so i pray you, get over yourself, stop acting like you're better than everyone else and shut the fuck up about rpf.

being in true sexyman nostalgia mode today (on account of. IT'S BEEN ONE YEAR BABY.) i think one of the most fascinating things about it is that we will never manage to do that again. like, not in a "we couldn't organize it better" way; there were better ways to do the spreadsheet, we would just turn off comments on posts and anon asks from day one so that we wouldn't then get people accusing us of censorship while we tried and failed to control the tide of things that ended up in the comments and inbox, we'd definitely have a WAY higher non-hermit contingent, both thanks to qsmp and thanks to the sexyman blog and medusa now having MUCH wider reach to other corners of the fandom and the original spread not all rooting at me, etc.

but the reason we couldn't do it again is that i don't know if we could ever replicate the exact circumstances that lead to it blowing up quite to the extent it blew up.

it was while tumblr polls and doing tumblr poll brackets on tumblr itself was still new-ish, and people were still excited about them. the idea of a mcytblr bracket was basically brand new; i won't claim we did it FIRST (because i have no idea if we did and doubt we did), but certainly we did it big first. so there's that; we can never again invent in real time "shit people are sending us threats about fraud lets legalize fraud because its funny, we can't stop it, and that neutralizes that drama as a thing anyone will take seriously", and then in turn accidentally invent a fandom culture of. um. wide-spread voter fraud.

(i don't know if we should apologize for, uh, causing the specific way mcytblr voter frauds. i still think it was better than the alternative at least, especially after seeing how so many other polls crashed and burned after us. there were MANY things we could have done better but i have seen SO MANY ways we could have done things worse since then so i think we came out looking pretty okay.)

but also: february 2023 was a very different time in mcytblr. we were in a hermitcraft dead period, where most of the hermits were either on vacation or playing tcg (which was fun, but didn't end up generating that much fandom activity by that time in february). the former dsmp crew was very much doing Nothing (and in that awkward space when the entire fandom knew dsmp 2 was never happening, but also people were still claiming it would happen, so it was just... busy waiting). qsmp didn't exist yet. there was no ongoing life series and wouldn't be for some time. i think even the dominioners and lifestealers were in a fairly dead zone. there was very little new for people to be excited about, mcyt content-wise.

enter: our poll. our poll which cleo then thinks its funny to call out on twitter. our poll, which was not only new mcyt content for the fandom to interact with (thanks to the fact we KEPT GETTING CC INTERACTIONS???), but participatory.

for about two weeks, we were the mcyt event de jour.

and like. the thing is. now we're in february 2024. mcyt is BOOMING. a new hermitcraft season JUST STARTED. we came off of vault hunters before that. meanwhile, qsmp just restarted and is, if i'm understanding correctly, booming. they just added a new guy! the two current juggernauts of the fandom are in FULL SWING. i honestly think we'd be somewhat overtaken by the fact things are actually happening in fandom. there's stuff to do that ISN'T go insane about a poll.

and it's not new, and we've seen it all before now, and frankly, it's hard to cause a mass hysteria event TWICE. lightning in a bottle, as they say.

i think part of the reason we all just REMEMBER mcytblr sexyman so much is that we could never, ever recreate it, so it remains crystalized in a single moment in time, impossible to replicate, forever memorable.

hey y'all. we've been quiet a bit. that being said, we have one last thing before we get this event behind us.

this was a really special thing to be a part of. what started as a silly joke we didn't think would get very far ended up being a cultural event within the fandom. thousands of votes, participation from everyone, a thing we'll never forget. we can't express enough how exciting it was to be a part of everything. we, the mods, had a fantastic time with everything. a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience, you know?

but it wasn't us that made this what it was. it was you all.

we just want to say, from the bottoms of our hearts: thank you. thank you for all the campaigning - for a while, it was practically all we could see. thank you for all the fic - we have a canonized ao3 tag, that's wild. thank you for all the art - several fandoms were practically revitalized by this and it was beautiful to watch. thank you to the ccs who went along with the bit - it was a delight to have you playing in here with us. thank you for the stories you told with this. for the narratives you created. for alliances we would have never seen coming, for betrayals, and most of all for being here, together, doing this. thank you all so much for making this what it was.

the mcytblr sexyman polls were wild. the joe v quackity poll got almost as many votes as the finale of the official cecil v reigen sexyman poll. the fandom as a whole committed so much voter fraud that they exposed a glaring flaw in the tumblr account creation system that may or may not be being adressed by staff at this very minute. it taught a lot of gen z'ers about the importance of voting and how every vote genuinely counts. the official blog got shadowbanned at one point. joe hills. i fucking love this fandom.

ive talked about this before but one of the biggest reasons i prefer mcytblr to mcyttwt is that mcytblr actually feels like a community? like. one whole community, not a bunch of warring groups that are only really grouped on the basis of technicality.

like beyond the fact that i much prefer traditional fandom spaces to stan culture, mcyttwt seems more like an arbitrary label as i don't really see users self identify with it, they self identify with subcommunities and actively try to avoid or get in conflicts with the others.

but mcytblr is One community. everyone here is mcytblr, no matter if you're dsmpblr, qsmpblr, hermitblr, trafficblr, empiresblr, liveblr (i'm making it happen damnit) or whatever. these subcommunities are actually treated AS subcommunities and people here all consider themselves part of one larger community and have no qualms about interacting outside of their preferred "faction"

and i feel like that's a big part of what leads mcytblr to being a lot more open to healthy discussion and big multifandom happenings than you get on mcyttwt
