This boy means nothing to me. 7: one way in which I relate to this character: I guess we both like to form friendships? (Except I would never befriend a compulsive liar who hurts/bullies my other friends. Yes, I will salt on him, even here.) 8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character: .... Where do I begin? Literally every damn scene where he flirts with Mari/LB! (How I wish I could erase every single LS scene from my brain.) 9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave?: ..... He's neither. Problematic? YES! But a fave? HELL NO!

(I swear that this anon just wanted to make things hard on me. XD But hey, I didn't completely salt him? That headcanon will be canon in my rewrite.)

Am I the only one wondering how the velaryons are still on team Black's side?

Like seriously, Rhaenyra and Daemon disrespect them at every given occasion, yet they still somehow want to support her claim.

Strike 1 was Rhaenyra cheating on their son and not being called out on it by anyone.

(She and Laenor have a deal and both cheat on each other, but his parents don't know that. For all they know their daughter in law has been disregarding her duty as his wife and claiming her bastards as Laenors.)

Which is already not great at all since that means the next lord of the tides won't be an actual Velaryon.

Despite everything though Corlys is willing to overlook that because "history remembers names, not blood." but that doesn't mean they are happy with this.

Strike 2 was everything that happened with poor Laena. Daemon prevented her from going back to Driftmark to be with her family and she died far from her parents and her beloved home, which is already horrible.

Then at her funeral their former son in law starts laughing. I honestly would have snapped at that point.

But that's not even the worst part! Because not long after her funeral, Rhaenyra and Daemon have their only remaining child murdered so they can get married.

(Once again, Laenor isn't actually dead, but his parents can't know that.)

So now, both of their kids are dead, indirectly or directly because of D*emyra.

And then they get married immediately! Their spouses have barely stopped burning and they are already tying the knot, without even pretending to be grieving for their losses or wait the required period of mourning like in the books.

And all of this is without even considering how Vaemond was brutally executed by Daemon for telling the truth about the strong boys's parentage, and calling them not his blood.

The velaryons have shown support for them on pultiple occasions and got shat on every. single. time.

Yet for some reason they still think Rhaenyra should be in charge.

In the end, even during the dance they still draw the short end of the stick.

Rhaenys is killed by Aegon and Aemond because, in spite of her strength and ability as a dragon rider,she can't beat two dragons by herself, and Rhaenyra basically sacrifices her by sending her all alone to help their allies.

Corlys is damn right for saying that with more reinforcements his wife would have lived.

Oh and then we have that whole mistery affair that Jace has with Sara. Obviously it's all speculation and rumors, but if it were true, that would just be the last blatant insult to house Velaryon. They deserved much better.

There’s something that has been irking me in the past few months... /That/ part of the fandom (that mostly was NOT here when the manga was still published weekly and when it got cancelled by SJ) changed the narrative about our reaction to the ending.

Now it’s all ‘omg mean IR shippers who are bitter over their ship not being canon!! They are terrible people!!!’ and calling us us bullies when no, you weren’t there back then where there were daily d*ath th*ats and rude asks sent to us... Not to mention we were mainly angry at the way the ending was so rushed and poorly written. We didn’t even know whether I//sshin, R//yuken, G//rimmjow (AGAIN), U//rahara and Y//oruichi were still alive or not because it was never said IN THE MANGA (because we only got an answer in light novels years later but majority of people only read the manga, not the novels that are semi-canon at best). We were angry over U//rahara’s “forgive me, K//urosaki, K//uchiki, for leaving everything to you” was somehow forgotten and the final fight with I//chigo, R//ukia and U//ryuu (who had THE silver arrow) VS Y//hwach never happened. We were angry because C//had ended up fighting for profits (profesionnal boxing) and U//ryuu ended up alone (again), overworked and working as a doctor just like his father and that go against their character arcs. We were angry because there was a whole arc and hints in the final arc clearly showing how I//chigo didn’t fit in the human world anymore and yet stayed there in the end. We were angry because the Sokyoku, the symbol of S//oul S//ociety’s old ways and injustice that I//chigo destroyed, was REBUILT. We were angry because M//ayuri was still a Captain and not in jail for his crimes. We were angry because we loved and cared for the story and the ending went against the main and side characters’ arcs and against the s//hinigami’s new ideals represented by I//chigo and R//ukia. And yes, we were angry for the pairings too because it was so badly written but most of us were fine with an open ending or IR and ISH ending but the new ‘IR would be nothing without anime filler moments’ argument is so ridiculous because even if you only look at the manga, IR was great, developed and made sense. Weirdly enough, the ones repeatedly shouting that filler “argument” aren’t saying a word about R//ukia’s scenes getting changed/deleted in the anime rn despite being the deuteragonist as if her erasure hadn’t been bad enough in the manga vers. of the final arc (same for B//yakuya scenes to a lesser extent)... But yes, our anger is mainly aimed at how poorly written the ending was, not only shipping-wise but in general. And now it’s irritating to see new fans act as if criticism that were there for a decade is not allowed towards the story or the mangaka.

While I’m watching the anime so far and I’m happy with the added scenes (especially the ones with U//ryuu concerning his heritage and the conflict he feels over the whole situation), I must say I don’t like how they deleted R//ukia scenes and B//yakuya scenes on purpose. I prefer the old characters designs as well and though and color palettes are now closer to the manga’s, the body proportions often look wrong (B//yakuya’s face, U//ryuu’s jaw to mention only a few exemples) and the lighting is horrible. I’m watching because I want to see EBTR, R//ukia’s bankai, U//nohana’s true self etc. but I do understand why fans who were in the fandom back then aren’t watching the anime or simply left the fandom given how we’re being treated and how some people are changing the narrative.

(And before my words get twisted... There’s nothing wrong with being a new fan, just don’t make up a new version as to why we dislike the ending/how we react(ed) to it. The criticism towards the writing is also more than fair and has existed even before the last arc even started.)

honestly? it's just...not a good show lol. i started it after finishing the og back in early 2021 because people were raving about it, and i was really disappointed. it was painfully boring (probably because the sheer amount of time dedicated to owen strand) and most of the characters felt kinda flat. the only ones who were really good were judd and grace, imo. the 'found family' aspect of it didn't feel as organic as the og because all these characters were literally just brought into the 126 all at once, you know? and the way they've handled representation is...not great in a lot of areas. the first episode where marjan, paul and mateo were being recruited frankly felt like the show's way of marking off a diversity checklist. lone star gets praised for its diversity more than the og does, but what's the point of diversity if your queer characters and characters of color can't have storylines 90% of the time without the white man (owen) being inserted into it somehow? t arlos gets a lot of praise too, but i just. don't really find them interesting. sorry, but no amount of diversity will ever convince me to watch a show that is that bad, and boring, as well.

that's just my opinion, though! i recommend you give it a watch and form your own opinion about it. because i'm not saying there's absolutely zero reasons to like the show, all those reasons are just not enough for me.

I don’t spend much time in the 911 lone star tag so I gotta ask: have we been talking about the way that centering owen strand/rob lowe among such a diverse cast just furthers the marginalization of black, brown, queer, and women’s stories in popular media?

Having first responder characters who are of color, queer, and/or women but refusing to develop them and/or making them side characters in their own stories/episodes in order to center a cisgender, heterosexual white man IS NOT ORIGINAL, IS NOT INTERESTING, IS NOT PROGRESS, AND MOST CERTAINLY IS NOT DOING IRL MARGINALIZED GROUPS ANY FAVORS!!!

On top of that, having Owen weigh in on every aspect of their lives and give them advice on everything is utterly laughable. At the very least, Owen is not in a position to be their sage advisor on matters directly tied to their marginalized identities. Idc how much he’s learned or figured out over the years, I’m not here for him in that role.

What would impress me is Owen consciously deferring to more appropriate people to give such guidance, listening intently to what’s said, and quietly nodding while talking notes. It would also be impressive if he’d let his team shine by seeking out their expertise on calls in the field (like Paul’s expert powers of observation and investigation, Marjan’s pristine technical skills with ropes/harnesses, Judd as a co-captain or captain in training, etc) as professional development or recommend them for specialized training opportunities or send them to give presentations at the academy. I dunno. Something. Anything. I just want Owen Strand to sit tf down because he’s the least compelling character and pretending like he’s the only interesting person in the 126 is making my head and heart hurt in universe and it’s pissing me off given the irl multicultural considerations listed earlier in this post, which the show is aggressively ignoring.
