An official release of the Kotor 2 missing content DLC/patch had been promised, then pulled back. It had been enough of the promise that a free game was offered to people who had bought the Kotor 2 rerelease. Why does that kind of rollback on an official plan happen? How is the decision to stop weighed against free stuff and bad PR?
I think it would help to provide a little more context as to what is going on.
Tumblr media
Way back in 2004, a game called KOTOR 2 shipped and was played by a lot of players. Many players did not like the ending, but the game had been in development for less than a year and Obsidian were on the hook to ship the game by the deadline. The game was regarded by many players as a flawed gem.
Tumblr media
Years later, modders would discover a whole bunch of unfinished endgame content in [KOTOR 2's original files]. Some of them collaborated to unlock, fill out, debug, and finish that content and restore it. This was released for the PC as an unofficial fan mod called The Sith Lords Restored Content Modification in 2009 and has had several updates since.
Tumblr media
In 2015 Aspyr Media, a smaller game publisher and developer, obtained the rights to port old Bioware games and began releasing titles like KOTOR, KOTOR 2, and Jade Empire to platforms like iOS, Linux, and Steam. It was around this time that Aspyr began working with the mod team responsible for the Restored Content Mod mentioned above, all in hopes of bringing the mod to these other platforms. The DLC was never really Aspyr's work, it was the mod team working with Aspyr to bring that content to Aspyr's Switch port of KOTOR 2. Eight years later, Aspyr announced that things had fallen through and the Restored Content DLC was cancelled.
Tumblr media
It sounds like what happened was that something essential fell apart along the way and there was really no way to complete the work in a timely and legal fashion. One of the original modders posted to reddit after the announcement was made and said "Aspyr did nothing wrong. Quote me on that. Shame it ended the way it did... I have nothing but good things to say about Aspyr and our cooperation over the past eight years". I suspect that, had the DLC been completable within reasonable circumstances, they would have done so. But there's a lot of potential issues that could have stopped them - the license may have expired, it may have been a Nintendo certification thing, the mod team could have fallen apart, there could have been some major legal liability that came to light, it could be the financial trouble currently hitting Embracer Group (Aspyr's owner as of 2001), or any of a number of things. The only people who know for sure are the mod team and Aspyr. I suspect they are all under NDA, so I doubt they will be telling.

Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. These games will always hold a special place in my fandom heart, especially the ones from the Core Design era (as I simply had more time for playing games as a teen than I have now). Now the remasters are out and it’s as if I moved back in time 20+ years.
Also you have no idea how hard is to draw a braid. ;)

And these morons thought that they could do a remake of the original KotOR. They can’t even get a basic DLC right.
Morons better refund me my $9.69 worth of Nintendo Gold Points I spent on this deception.

KOTOR Remake Has Been Indefinitely Delayed
Thought I'd post this to let eager fans of the long-anticipated Knights of the Old Republic Remake for PS5 and PC by the developer Aspyr Media, know of the game's... poor, disastrous status. The game has been delayed indefinitely after the sacking of Design Director Brad Prince and Art Director Jason Minor.
As you can already tell, firing two directors, in the Art Department no less, is just gonna set the entire project on fire after being in development for 3 years. We all know that Star Wars games have a very poor habit of 'falling through the pipeline'. It honestly doesn't surprise me, especially with Star Wars: Eclipse having trouble as well. Hopefully, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order 2 doesn't fall through either. While I do not know much about Respawn Entertainment, they've been pretty much on track with their target release dates.
While I had cautious optimism for the KOTOR Remake, this is a huge disappointment for a future generation of fans. At least the original games are still there. I have no idea what sort of game or infighting Aspyr is having, this is just a disaster and a disappointment.
It is NOT a cancellation announcement. The game has been shelved until then.

My PlayStation 5’s Brush With Death
Tumblr media
I was playing Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection yesterday. I was playing Battlefront II’s single-player campaign, I was 2/3 of the way through the Utapau mission. I was given the option to play as Obi-Wan Kenobi, I selected yes, the game took me to command post selection, the all of a sudden, the screen freezes.
Tumblr media
The I get a green screen on my TV, so I was alarmed, then my PlayStation 5 hard shuts off.
Basically, I purchased a defective product, & my PS5 almost paid the price for it. Thankfully everything still works, but I uninstalled SW: BCC after this episode.
If you’re planning on buying this game collection, do yourselves a favor, & stay the hell away from it. The nostalgia, or Trophies/Achievements are not worth it.
How has video game development in 2024 become so LAZY, that this is becoming normal?!?!
FUCKING WHY, ASPYR?!?!?!

Combining classic '80s #cartoon aesthetic seems like an easy win but is Beamdog and Aspyr Media's #roguelike #Mythforce a solid combination of the idea? Check out our review inside to see what we think.

Civilization VI expands now with new content
Tumblr media
Leader Pass launches now for Civilization VI expanding the game on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. All thanks to the work of developers Firaxis Games and Aspyr. Which is available now on Steam. Following last week's announcement of Civilization VI: Leader Pass. This is also a new season pass that adds 18 playable leader selections to Civilization VI. The first DLC pack, Great Negotiators, is now live. Along with some negative reviews. Since the Anthology edition does not show the Leader Pass DLC content. And potentially borks the game. Although I have not personally tested it on Linux yet. Still, feel the need to share details. Test your diplomacy skills with the Great Negotiators Pack. This includes Abraham Lincoln (United States) and Queen Nzinga Mbande (Kongo). As well as the Sultan Saladin (Arabia). Here are some specific details about the Leaders themselves:
Leader Trailer: Abraham Lincoln (United States)
youtube
Lincoln hurled the United States into the industrial age. While ruling over the Union victory in the American Civil War. His new Leader Pass abilities speak to these successes. As does his Preserver of the Union agenda. Which results in him only liking Civilizations with the same form of Government. New Ability: Emancipation Proclamation
(Base game) Industrial Zones and their buildings give +2 Amenities. While your Plantations give -1 Amenities.
(Rise and Fall & Gathering Storm DLCs) Industrial Zones give +3 Loyalty per turn. But your Plantations give -2 Loyalty.
(Base game) Receive a free Melee unit after building Industrial Zones and their structures. The free unit does not need resources when created or maintain. Also receiving +5 Combat Strength.
(Rise and Fall & Gathering Storm DLCs) Receive a free Melee unit and an Amenity. Doing so after building Industrial Zones and their buildings. The free unit does not require resources when created or to maintain. But receives +5 Combat Strength.
Leader Trailer: Nzinga Mbande | Civilization VI: Leader Pass
youtube
Given her history of dealing with the Portuguese, Mbande Nzinga has a Decolonization agenda. As a result, she likes Civilizations who stick to one continent. But also dislikes Civilizations with cities on multiple continents. New Ability: Queen of Matamba and Ndongo
+5 Combat Strength against Civilization's whose capital is on a different continent.
Trade Routes to receive +20% Yields in Leader Pass. Due to Civilizations whose home continents are the same as yours. But -15% to Trade Routes to other Civilizations.
Trailer: Sultan Saladin | Civilization VI
youtube
The existing Civilization VI leader Vizier Saladin can build religious buildings. Doing so for a fraction of the usual Faith cost. Dislikes leaders who follow other Religions. Sultan Saladin, on the other hand, receives bonuses for all of his Combat and Religious units. While dislikes leaders who wage war on followers of his Religion. New Ability: The Victorious Military
+100% Flanking and Support Bonus to all Combat and Religious units.
Civilization VI: Leader Pass content is coming via six DLC. Launching now through March 2023. Along with support for Linux, Mac, and Windows PC via Steam. Priced at $19.99 USD / £17.99 / 19,99€. Launching the first DLC, Great Negotiators Pack now. The Leader Pass content will also be auto delivered as it is released. The one big advantage is Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Anthology. Which is discounted 86% on Steam. Priced at $29.77 USD / £25.83 / 29,77€. Which is a huge savings. Humble Store fans can also save big with a 70% discount. Priced at $29.99 USD / £25.49 / 29.99€. Again, with builds for Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. Yet Steam Deck Playable.
