James Never Betrayed Zarina AU

When Peter Pan and Hook started fighting each other, Zarina was always there to help out and help come up with plans, as well as take on Peter when James was out of action. Sometimes they’d fight him two on one, leaving the Lost Boys to the rest of the crew.

However, when Tinkerbell started helping Peter, Zarina would challenge her instead, keeping the fairy magic and everything away from the others. It was also personal for Zarina; Zarina believed that Tinkerbell and the other fairies were hypocrites for letting Tink get away with experiments with Lost Things but never letting Zarina explore Pixie Dust as she wanted to. 

There was a lot of jealousy and envy towards Tink, especially when she first saw her helping Peter. After a while they actually started flirting? A little bit? Nothing serious because they do genuinely loathe each other but enough that James doesn’t like it ​ Zarina: what, are you jealous? ​ James: no! Why, is there something to be jealous about?​

an angle i enjoy in cosmic/eldritch horror is when, instead resorting to the old classic "the horrors being so incomprehensible that they break your brain and drive you mad" cliché, the premise is that in comprehending the horrors you are so changed by the experience that your new state is indistinguishable to an outside observer from madness. you comprehend the unknowable just fine, but actually communicating that to anyone else is impossible because they just don't have the mental framework required to understand it. the eldritch horrors don't drive you mad. what does is the ordinary everyday horror of finding yourself isolated, ridiculed and doubted at every turn, no matter how hard you try to make yourself heard and understood.
