The Beginning

Hiya! This is from my brand new book about the Cayde-6 and my hunter guardian dating. This is the very first chapter, and here is the Wattpad link for if anyone would like to follow along as it goes <3

the first thing they heard as they awoke was the crackling of electrified energy.

the next was an echoed voice, ringing through the endless void their mind was suspended in.

"Fell!" They heard, although they were almost sure it was the second half of a sentence. As they pondered the word, the meaning it could possess, their conscience finally woke and they felt the rush of falling once more.

Bright, deep, blue eyes opened, and they looked around. Their skin was... white. it glowed. They hear a few quiet mechanical noises and look up.

"Guardian! You're awake."

"...Guardian?" They say, though it sounds odd to them. their voice box hurt, like it hadn't been used in decades. Maybe longer.

"Yes,... guardian." The little creature seemed to be happy, though they had no idea what it was.

"..Where... are.. we?" They ask, looking around the dark corridor they were located in. everything seemed to be made of electrified marble, geometric patterns and hissing liquid. red leaves and weeds littered the ground they were sitting on.

"We are on the planet Nessus. Can you walk? We should get moving. there are creatures here that want you dead."

"...creatures?" They ask, clearing their still-hoarse throat.

"They're called Vex. A sort of robot race. you'll probably see some."

The now proclaimed 'guardian' slowly stands, beginning to stumble their way after the little machine that woke them from their cold slumber.

"What... are you?" The guardian asks, following the floating light.

"I'm a ghost. Well, now, I'm your ghost. I kind of uhm- brought you back to life."

"So I was dead."

"Yes. But- now you're not. you'll get used to it."

The guardian rolls their eyes, deciding to follow in silence for a bit longer.

The two travelled through the glowing marble tunnels, the awokens hand running on the side of the cavern walls to stabilize themself. their cape flowed softly behind them, and their boots clunked and snapped the biological matter under their feet.

Eventually, they came into an opening. Sunlight beamed down a tunnel in the planets underbelly, a broken spiral staircase leading up to the surface.

"Do you.. have a name?" The guardian asks the ghost, their voice fairly quiet.

"The others called me Feather."

"Feather?"

"Yes. They say that I'm soft and quiet; that I act as a fallen part of a collective."

The guardian hums in acknowledgement, beginning to climb the tall staircases up to the planets surface. this place was quite pretty.

After a while, they uncover a ship hidden under an electric waterfall. The guardian smiles, running their hands on the wet, sleek surface. they ignored the jolts of electricity running up their veins, and send a smile at their ghost.

The ghost seems to nod at them, before they found that they'd been transported into the ship.

"Setting coordinates for the Tower. Please don't crash into any asteroids."

"No promises, Feather."

i don’t really pay attention to characters honestly i save images based on how hot they are lmao but i have quite a few pics saved of cayde-6 if you need a robot to simp and probably literally hundreds of pictures of thicc robots

tbh, I personally think Cayde and Andal might have been an item prior to the former's death, though I could understand if you choose to interpret as brothers from another mother.

Well, it’s not so much an interpretation as it is the fact that Cayde explicitly labels Andal as his brother, not once, but four times in his lore book:

I have nothing against the ship haha, I get why people pair them together—the potential dynamic is pretty cute and interesting. But I usually try to write Cayde as close to canon as I can get, and that includes his relationship with Andal.

#plus I just kinda prefer the brotherly relationship for the two of them anyways #idk I don’t see enough healthy “ride or die” brotherly relationships in media so y’know #also Cayde’s whole thing with his Queen of Hearts is another reason why I just can’t see Andal and Cayde being romantically involved #Cayde’s way too obsessed with his Queen of Hearts #a conceptual person built on what Cayde describes as his “…memory of love.
