One Destiny 2 headcanon I’ve always had is that the Vanguard has now had to set up a very specific set of rules for all Guardians that are 90% caused by shit the Young Wolf has done.

They include but are not limited to:

1. Do not Strand grapple to ships as they leave the hangar. This is directed to one person and one person only. You know exactly who you are.

2. Don’t give random kinderguardians Gjallarhorns. We do not need to build a third Tower

3. Stop telling New Lights ‘kys’ means ‘keep yourself safe’. Crow is still running from Osiris

4. Do not use multiple fire extinguishers as a replacement engine on Sparrows, especially while INSIDE the Tower.

5. Do not use fire extinguishers as ‘jetpacks’ either

6. All fire extinguishers are now off limits to The Young Wolf. Please report any missing ones to the Vanguard

7. Do not create a ‘pigeon army’, lead them to the Tower, throw a bag of bird seed on the ground and then leave. Seriously I have never seen this many pigeons in one place before. Wolf where did you get this many pigeons

8. If you set off fireworks in the Tower, don’t let them fall over please

I’ve noticed something with Destiny Ghosts… They always have the perfect personality for their Guardian.

Sagira was very cocky and was never afraid to speak her mind while also being very smart, which is the perfect way to be when you’re paired with an arrogant and selfish person like Osiris because she challenges him and makes him stay somewhat humble.

Targe is very quiet and reserved, just the way he’d need to be for someone like Zavala, who has to be alone and in the quiet to think and relax a little so he doesn’t collapse under the pressure of leadership

Glint is very caring, nurturing, and well-behaved. He’s a great guide and pretty much the Ghost version of a therapy dog, exactly what Crow would need due to how people were bound to treat him and all the trauma and overall sadness he’d endure. His Ghost was the only reason he kept going in his early life.

And Ghost? He’s really talkative, supportive, faithful, and generally a very helpful kind of Ghost. Wouldn’t you want that in your Ghost if you almost never talked and were constantly facing the worst of the worst The Witness has to offer while walking the line between Light and Dark?

I wonder if The Traveler created the Ghosts specifically tailored for people that would become Guardians or if Ghosts simply had their personalities from the get-go and where then tasked with finding their match, with The Traveler not knowing who would get chosen…

In any case, Ghosts are the real MVPs of Destiny

I honestly love how many people's young wolfs only see themselves as weapons to be used! A weapon to be fired at the enemies of humanity, unrelenting, unquestioning of the one who gives the order,,,

There's only so long they can hold on to that mindset before the blood of those killed by their hands drowns them.

The moment when they finally fail a mission, or do something egregious because of an order, and that loss, that split second, is enough to stop them dead in their tracks, kill all the momentum they had pushing them forward.

In that moment all they can do is simmer in what they've done, in that moment they are forced to come to terms with the fact that they are not a perfect weapon, that who they've been serving may not have the same goals as them. And in that moment.

They Break :).

Tldr: Something, something, the intrinsic sexyness of unwavering devotion and the inevitability of that mindset breaking them down until an explosive meltdown or a slow decay into nothingness.

I was thinking about how Saint-14 wasn’t immediately optimistic about the Last City when the Young Wolf and Ghost showed him the hologram of its future. He’s clearly broken by what just happened to Zephyr Station and even goes as far as to say “I can’t do this anymore.”

I like to think that Saint didn’t truly believe in the idea of the Last City until he rejoined with his father on earth. That it might have taken him a few months -maybe even years- to get to the point of being all for the City. That he struggled and that’s why he chose the Young Wolf to be his example. Because Young Wolf fought until the death to save his life and then showed him that bright future.

They didn’t shame him for thinking he couldn’t do it, just said what the consequences would be and then told him to keep going at least. To keep fighting. To keep trying.

I like to think that the stubbornness that Saint exhibits is because of Young Wolf and Ghost. Is because of their encouragement.

It’s wild to think how much Young Wolf truly affected the timeline just by showing up to save Saint at Zephyr Station. How different the universe would be.

If the Young Wolf officiated Crucible matches, I think their voicelines would be a mix between Gambit and Iron Banner (oof whiplash for the people used to Shaxx screaming encouragement. They get a significantly quieter handler they probably thought was a myth)

Like. It'd be smooth and have references to their accomplishments and your Class (Hold the line, Titan. Let them break on your shield.)

But also a darker tone ("They've fucked up." if you get heavy ammo, uncontested, or a simple "Let them run.") and a mixture of jokes/puns and ominous stuff based on subclass when you cast a super ("String em up, Hunter" if you're Threadrunner/"Heaven's heading to war" if you're a Dawnblade)

They'd definitely still get excited on a kill streak/ending one (They’re fighting over rubble until they get out of your way!)

Maybe if you got the We Ran Out Of Medals, they'd say something like "Now you're a queen/king I'd bow to" (i cannot forget when Mara expected them to bow and then gave up on it, back in Lost. i died)

I think they'd speak sort of like Saladin, but with a lighter tone (most times), and an audible smirk like Drifter.

Other lines I liked but left out:

You think I stayed under when Xol buried me? Get up and fight. (your team mercy'd)

Even Ghaul fell. (end someone's 20 killstreak)

Make 'em regret standing up to you. (match start)

Leave 'em in the grave they dug for you (1v3 elimination/survival)

The Cold remembers their mistakes. (Revenant super cast. that blizzard is an actual nightmare)

This is a dream…or some cruel, horrendous joke.

But he’s right there. He’s alive.

The Young Wolf’s knees meet earth with an unceremonious thud as she stares up at her Vanguard, her mentor, her friend.

You’re alive?

The Ace of Spades is a steady weight on her hip but for a moment, it isn’t a crushing reminder of her failure but a firm reassurance from a friend. Is this what hope feels like? After so long, trudging from one debilitating atrocity to another, can she…finally have a win without repercussions?

Can she have her best friend back?

“Hey kiddo,” Cayde smiles at her, moving from his place beside the Warlock Vanguard to approach the trembling Hunter. He kneels down, laying a hand - Traveler, it’s solid, it’s real - along her shoulder. Her head lifts a fraction and in an instant, her arms are bound around his neck and a heavy, anguished sob is torn from her chest.

“Aw, missed me, huh?” He tries to tease even as he gathers the Guardian into his arms and holds her tight. “It’s okay. I’m fine, yeah?”

She can’t answer. Words are knots in her throat that will not dislodge.

Cayde-6 looks over his shoulder at Ikora with a smile and she folds her arms across her chest, a gentle warmth to her smile as they stay in silence.

He's here and she can - fuck, she's missed him.

After the Leviathan, after making peace with his death - she never dreamt she'd see him again.

And maybe it's not really him.

But the arms that hold her are too familiar to deny.

You're alive.

She's sure this is only temporary. Some last ditch effort from the Traveler to protect itself. To rally.

But she doesn't care.

Maybe this time…she'll get to say goodbye.
