Sometimes, I feel like DC is afraid to put Dickkory in canon and for real (like endgame pair and no divorce bs or smth even if the plot continue to move forward) is because Dick seems to be the type that's very family oriented and if he has a wife and eventually have children, he'd put alot more focus on his own family, having less and lesser time with the batfam(not totally counting them off tho). Titans maybe won't be so affected because both Dick and Kory are part of the Titans and it's gonna be probs like Roy and Lian situation(?) where they still spend alot of time with the Titans with their children with them.

Less time in Gotham means less time with Batman, and Batman needs his emotional support Dick Grayson.

The actual reason Kori and Dick's wedding blew up is because the writers wanted him back for the batfam. They couldn't have Dick spending time with the Titans, having children, and being separated from the batfamily, especially not with Bruce's emotional state.

Bruce has attachment issues to Dick. It's like that Batman and Superman comic panel where Bruce is talking about his robins leaving and he says, "It was like with Dick. I couldn't let him go."

Bruce refuses to rest in bed when he's injured. But all of a sudden he's willing to skip his son's wedding for an injury. Sure, B. That's why.

Dick and Kory would definitely raise their kids with the Titans like Roy does but that would also rub the batfamily the wrong way because Dick is such as integral part of the family. Since he loves them too, he would try to split his time with the Titans and the Batfamily but that wouldn't fly with the titans because they think Dick is too good for Batman. They hate when Dick has anything to do with him.

Batman gets on the Titans' nerves like nobody else. And Bruce thinks the Titans aren't good enough for Dick. So mutual hate because neither side want to let go of Dick Grayson, and Dick's in the middle desperately trying to bridge the gap.

Yeah, DC's definitely scared of making Dickkory canon. And the tug-of-war's the only reason.

If the fans of the cartoons, animated. Movies, and comics weren’t specifically trying to exclude and dismiss the live action DickKory you wouldn’t have made that petty post in the first place. So that’s on them if they feel some kinda way about it. And what exactly is the reason to only exclude the live action one anyway? They strangely never explain that.

You get it. I decided to be rude since that’s clearly what they wanted.

Now on a serious and mature note here:

The only reason seeing Titans DickKory in the tag should be your “super villain origin story” is if you have some kind of other problem you refuse to elaborate on. They specifically have an issue with the only one that has a bw in it and I know that’s what they aren’t saying because those same accounts hype up the white Starfire cosplayers.

If you genuinely like this pair you shouldn’t be mad that after decades there is a version of them that’s together. And I’m assuming they’ll also get together in Titans United because it’s a tie in to the live action where they are endgame. So you’re welcome for that as well.

Instead of being pressed they should recognize the popularity of the show has the potential to bring DickKory back in the main comic run. Stop being racist and accept your win.

And again I enjoy them for what they are in other mediums. The show is my favorite version , NTT and the comics before Batman editorial stepped in are my favorite to read, and I legitimately love TTG to the movies. Rewatch it all the time and have some of the songs on my Spotify.

Dick and Barbara’s chemistry isn’t romantic. It’s more friend (co-worker). However, you can tell that she still has romantic feelings for him. I’m not sure how things between them are going to be handled? I believe (because Prathi said it would be, that it’s handled maturely. I just know that Brenton only puts those 😍 on display for Anna, and if the show runners and network don’t take advantage of DICKKORY chemistry they’re missing an opportunity to showcase one of the greatest tv ships of our time.

Ok so I know you sent this ask before EP6 but I honestly still feel the same about what I said about them. And with what you said it does still seem that she has feelings for him but Dick during the present hasn’t reciprocated the same energy. Had we not known beforehand that that’s where Titans was going then we all would’ve been lost because the chemistry between them two is nonexistent. I’m not paying any of these flashbacks/nightmares that Dick is having any mind because I really just don’t care about that ship and I’m not going to give it any shine even when it’s negative.

I’m really not trying to keep with theories, leaks, rumors, etc…because I’ve been hurt before by this show but I do hope that they’re handled maturely and we can move on to Dickkory finally! I, personally, don’t understand how any Dickkory shipper would feel threatened by Dawn and/or Barbara being with Dick in the Titans tv show? Admittedly the comics seem to be moving in a different direction 🙄 However, I think TPTB (on the tv show) have demonstrated who their main/endgame couple is (Dick+Kory). I say this because of the way they handled their breakup (1x08) and how Dick’s morality and “light” seem to be tethered to Kory (1x11) Furthermore. the way that they (although not together) were shown to have a deeper connection and support of one another in S2 (2x05 and 2x09). [Dawn is non-factor]. If anything we were shown exactly why they’re not good together. The rekindled romance between Dick and Barbara (IMO) will probably amount to what went on between Kory and the psychiatrist in 2x11. The situation starts out one way and ends with Kory confessing that she had found friendships, “love”, freedom and she ends up helping Rachel try to break Dick out of prison. Given the slight insight/perspective we have on Barbara, I suspect at some point she’s likely going to try to persuade Dick to give up vigilanteism and The Titans, which will cause him to have a similar epiphany. 3x10 is called Troubled Water. I’m willing to bet that’s where it happens and that’s when things between Dick/Babs goes sour and we see subtle movement “romantically” with Dickkory. Especially if it works out that Kory is in grave danger or may have to leave the planet 😂

As you said, I think it's mostly how their relationship is being treated in the comics (and this has been happening for a long time, an endless nightmare 🤡). I was one of the people who in the beginning when the news was getting out I was getting desperate. But now I'm more relieved with the "new" news 🤭 and the certainty that they're going to be endgame.

It's the best adaptation of their relationship since the Marv Wolfman run, Anna and Brenton were the right picks.

ok so, i don't like devin grayson. i don't like her writing at all, i don't think she gets the characters at all, and hot take: if you dislike a character who's super important part of dick's life, and helped him come into his own and be who he is, you shouldn't be writing that character. (i'm talking about kory here, but tbh if you dislike any of the characters who dick interacts with frequently and are a huge part of his life - especially his love interests, and his family - you shouldn't be writing dick.) so i'm not going into this story with high hopes. however i've seen ppl talk about this story as being really good so i hope i'll like it too

this is def some of grayson's better work, but it suffers from the same thing all of her stories do. she doesn't fully understand all the characters. if one character is off it affects the whole story. a lot of her stories have good ideas and poor execution, and this one definitely doesn't have awful execution but there's still something missing and as someone who loves the titans it's just sad. i get why people like this story - it made me tear up at the end ngl - but the rest of the titans are just as important as dick and it feels like the writer doesn't understand that. (i get this is a dick comic but it's still a titans story.) (it does however make me want to write a fic expanding upon this moment and the aftermath bc the idea of the titans all coming together to cheer dick up is so goooooood. are they gonna have a party celebrating dick's parent's lives? are they gonna eat junk food and watch a comfort movie? are they gonna just sit and talk?? the possibilities are endless!!)

the art is gorgeous as all of jimenez' art is, i love his style so freaking much!!

the next page is of the bludhaven supporting cast and all it does is remind me how much i do not care abt them. i think the only one i actually like is clancy, the others are expendable and forgettable. (i do love clancy a lot though, i wish she'd been written by more people than just dixon). though, i usually love guice's art, i think i actually prefer mcdaniel's take on clancy??? which is 100% a first for me.

Just had a random thought about DC Titans and Dickkory. *bear w/me, it's kind of long, sorry.*

I listen to your podcast & remember something being mentioned about how some DK fans may be a little confused about the genre of the show, and I think that could be accurate.

I grew up reading and watching a fair amount of anime and manga. As you may know, specific labels are used to describe different genres. The two I mainly engaged in were either Shounen or Shoujo (pretty common and popular genres).

shounen

• a genre of Japanese comics and animated films aimed primarily at a young male audience, typically characterized by action-filled plots.

shoujo

• a genre of Japanese comics and animated films aimed primarily at a young female audience, typically characterized by a focus on personal and romantic relationships.

Now if I had to make an anime/manga comparison for DC Titans I'd definitely say it falls more in the Shounen category, as the main focus is the "action filled plot" as opposed to "romantic relationships". The Shounen media I consumed as a kid usually did have some primary "ship(s)" or romantic elements included, but it was hardly ever the main focus of the plot.

If I happened to like or ship a pairing in a shounen anime or manga, I learned quickly to expect the (romantic) interactions between whatever 2 characters to be sparse and few & far in between. However, it was never too difficult to tell who might eventually be "endgame" bc authors/writers more often then not made it a point to imply throughout the series that those characters hv feelings for eachother & will likely end up together in the end.

Even if they didn't hv a whole bunch of overtly romantic time together in the series, this was usually enough to satisfy me, bc it's just not the type of genre where that happens or is a priority.

I say all this to say, that's exactly how I feel about DK in Titans. Like I get why some ppl might feel cheated or unsatisfied but if you pay attention to how the structure of the show has always been, expecting all this "shoujo"-esque, romantic drama was just not realistic. Do I agree that DK could've had better & more development in seasons 2 & 3? Sure. But tbh I've rewatched the seasons, and the scenes they do share together were always important & impactful. It wasn't a reach to assume they would end up together. In typical Shounen fashion, it doesn't officially happen until the very end 🤷🏾‍♀️ but as long as it happens, me personally, I'm happy.

When I watched the pilot I knew right off the bat this show was selling me action first and foremost. I even feel like they go out of their way to create as many fight scenes as possible and when they can't fill the time building up to that the plot gets a little wonky.

In my opinion, I credit Prathi's addition to the writing staff as to why things were so much clearer romantic-wise in s3 & 4. Had she been around in season 2 I know DK wouldn't have gotten together but I do think they would have been more obviously romantic.

I also feel like Hank and Dawn's awful writing is proof they didn't know what to do with couples when they were together long-term. They actively dodged really writing Dickbabs as a couple for more than 2 episodes. It's hard not to notice.

So do I wish there were more shoujo elements in the first 2 seasons? Yes absolutely. Do I also love all that season 4 is so much about Dickkory that Dick doesn't even have another storyline lol? Yes.

Both can be true.

It just wasn't a romance show which is why they were all undercooked (Jayrose, DonnaGarth, Dickbabs, etc) or terrible to witness (cough cough Hank &Dawn) except for, ironically, Dickkory. Cause they got together at the very end but it's not quite out of nowhere. They've been a thread 1-3 and a complete focus this entire season.

In hindsight, I'm realizing a ton of Dickkory's biggest romantic moments came in the middle of some kind of dramatic fight. From the Trigon dream to Kory showing up to fistfight Deathstroke to him dying and dreaming about their daughter LOL.
