i’ve never watched any of it myself ^^; but i see all your rbs and idk i’m a bit curious lol

Thank you for following my Doctor Who reblogs :’D I’m not THAT deep into the lore of DW and I’ve only watched as far back as the Ninth Doctor, so I don’t get every reference but I still enjoy the show for the entertainment value. 

Favorite character: It’s a tie between the Ninth Doctor (played by Christopher Eccleston) and recently the Fifteenth Doctor (played by Ncuti Gatwa)

Least Favorite character: I can’t remember if there’s a character I outright LOATHE… but from what I remember, I always found the The Trickster to be a great, cruel villain. While I’m not sure if he appears in the main series of Doctor Who, he appeared in The Sarah Jane Adventures spinoff. The Trickster’s whole deal was… making deals with desperate people. Such as switching the fates of a young Sarah Jane and her deceased best friend. Or making a deal with a dead man to marry a brainwashed Sarah Jane. I felt very sorry for the people he tricked. So, great villain but I didn’t like him!

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon):

Uh… Captain Jack Harkness/Ninth Doctor, Amy/Rory, The Lizard Lady/Her Female Companion (I’m sorry, I forgot their names), Martha/William Shakespeare (because Martha deserves to be immortalised in Shakespeare’s plays), Donna/Shaun

Character I find most attractive: Amy Pond

Character I would marry: Shaun. His wife and daughter show up with aliens at their house and he just accepts it. Doesn’t even blink. Donna’s best friend the Doctor has come back as a new reincarnation and is now living at their house? Shaun just accepts it.

Character I would be best friends with: Rose

A random thought: Will David Tennant return to the series again?

An unpopular opinion: As much as I adore David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor is kind of a jerk and his storylines got far too serious and grandiose

My canon OTP: Uh… Clara/Danny. Their story made me emotional… Also, I haven’t watched all of the Thirteenth Doctor’s run but Thirteen/Yasmin looks cute. I hope they became canon? We invented a whole other Tenth Doctor clone so that Rose/Ten could be a thing in some form. SURELY Yasmin gets her own Thirteenth Doctor clone?

Non-canon OTP: Rose/Martha. Why pine over the Doctor when they can date each other

Most badass character: Martha. This quote still lives in my head rent free: “I travelled across the world. From the ruins of New York, to the fusion mills of China, right across the radiation pits of Europe. And everywhere I went I saw people just like you, living as slaves! My Favorite Movies & TV Shows About Sisters

I already did a list of my favorite movies and tv shows about best friends. As I was compiling that list, a number of movies and shows about sisters popped into my head. I didn’t include them because I thought, “Well, they’re sisters, not friends.” So, now I present a list of my favorite movies and TV shows about sisters!

10. Switched at Birth

Switched at Birth is about two teen girls who discover they were switched at birth. They both choose to meet their biological families and become forever connected. Though Bay and Daphne are not actually sisters, they become sisters as they now share parents, siblings, and homes. They come from different walks of life. Bay is wealthy while Daphne was raised by a single working Latina mother. What’s especially great is the inclusion of deaf and hard of hearing leads and the use of sign language.

9. Sense & Sensibility

Pride & Prejudice is usually the most popular of Jane Austen’s novels (and movie adaptations), but I personally like Sense & Sensibility more. The 90′s version has an excellent cast that includes Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman. Marianne Dashwood (Winslet) is the hopeless romantic who wears her heart out on her sleeve. Sensible, dutiful Elinor (Thompson) keeps all her feelings to herself. They fall in love, have their hearts broken, and have each other’s backs even if they don’t totally understand each other.

8. Fuller House

The original Full House is a better show than Fuller House, but I like the female trio of DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy in the sequel series. Kimmy isn’t a sister, but she essentially becomes one of their sisters and officially Stephanie’s sister-in-law. They all have their different personalities that align with the original male trio in Full House. DJ is the goody-goody, slightly OCD supermom (Danny). Stephanie is the fun loving aunt (Uncle Jesse). Kimmy is the wacky best friend (Joey). We get to see them go on girl nights out, plan parties, serve as bridesmaids, and more. Full House may be the classic, but I think Fuller House is more fun.

7. Charmed

I haven’t seen the new reboot of Charmed, so this is about the 90s-00s version. I’ll admit the current drama between the two casts has left a sour taste in my mouth. But the original show was one I looked forward to watching with my two sisters each week. We loved that each sister had their own distinct magical power and their own successful careers. I preferred when Shannen Doherty was in the cast as oldest sister Prue over Rose McGowan’s Paige. But watching either trio combat demons while navigating their love lives was good entertainment.

6. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Even though To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is mainly a rom-com about Lara Jean’s love life, it’s also a sweet story about sisters. The sister relationships were especially wonderful in the books, and one of the things I really loved about it. We see even though Lara Jean has had some sadness in her life, she is supported by her loving family. It’s nice that they are not jealous of each other or resentful towards one another. They may bicker from time to time, but ultimately the love between the three of them is clear.

5. 10 Things I Hate About You

One of my favorite movies of all time! Just like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, 10 Things I Hate About You is a rom-com that happens to feature a great sister relationship. Kat and Bianca are total opposites. Kat is anti-social while Bianca is a social butterfly. In the beginning we see resentment between the two due to their differences in personality. Bianca thinks Kat is a bitch. Kat thinks Bianca is shallow and conceited. But by the end they grow to respect each other. We see that Kat is actually a very strong, driven, independent woman. Bianca grows from a spoiled rich girl to someone who sees past vanity and stands up for her sister. Also, Heath Ledger.

4. Wish Upon a Star

Someone brilliant took the concept of Freaky Friday and applied it to sisters. The younger bookworm sister swaps bodies with her older, popular sister. While in each other’s bodies, they both grow into better people as they walk in the other’s shoes. The younger sister becomes more confident. The older sister becomes less superficial and a better student. They both learn to like themselves for who they are and grow closer as they have to rely on each other to switch back.

3. Hocus Pocus

In the spirit of Halloween, I had to include the Sanderson Sisters. Even though this movie isn’t exactly about sisters, it features one of the best sister trios ever. Winnie is the bossy one, Mary has hound dog-like sniffing abilities, and Sarah is the sexy airhead. They are so entertaining and funny. Classic!

2. Little Women

I haven’t seen the newest version of Little Women -- though I really want to. The 90′s version was one of my all time favorite movies. It had an all star cast with Winona Rider as feisty Jo, Claire Danes as shy Beth, Kirsten Dunst as young Amy, Christian Bale as boy next door Laurie, and Susan Sarandon as Marmie. They are all wonderful. We see the sisters play together, fight, and grow up. It sticks pretty close to the book, and it has a warm, charming Christmas vibe to it. Now I just have to see the new one!

1. Sister Sister

Two identical twins discover they were separated as babies after being adopted by different people. They find each other again and move in together. Tia is studious while Tamera is a party girl. They have a pesky little neighbor to deal with along with other high school adventures. Their parents, especially Tia’s mom Lisa Landry, are hilarious. Sister Sister was just a really cool show.

I was 10 when it came back on telly with Eccleston and the first episode with the autons scared me so much my mom wouldn't let me watch it again until a couple years later, but yeah my teens I was obsessed with DW... still am at age 25

I adore Jodie Whittaker and her doctor, and although I think 3 companions is too many I do love Yaz and Graham (Ryan is hit & miss). I just think theyve been massively let down by the stories/writing... they’ve tried to hard to tick certain boxes and completely missed what Doctor Who is about for a lot of people.. an escape from the real world into these outrageous unbelievable but lovable fun alien adventures

there’s another quote i love, and i can’t find it right now; in “in the forest of the night,” which is the most watchable episode of season 8, danny pink explains why he wouldn’t want to travel with the doctor and says something along the lines of “one person is more incredible, more awe-inspiring than universes.”

the dichotomy between people and universes is a little funky, but danny was an awesome dissenter to the life accessible through traveling in the tardis. he doesn’t want to travel through time & space to learn how human beings are infinitely complex—he’d rather learn at home, on earth, in the time he has.

Favourite movie: I don’t have a clear favourite, more like a bunch of movies I love for different reasons. I’ve mentioned several in my responses below. One I haven’t mentioned is UP. For an animated movie, it packs a huge emotional punch: within the first ten minutes I’d laughed out loud and sobbed my heart out. Outstanding.

Favourite TV show: Northern Exposure. It was warm, whimsical, and utterly wonderful in every way with some of the most endearingly flawed, lovable, and surprising characters and relationships. It was completely unique and influenced many other shows I love. If you enjoyed Sense8 for its diversity and empathy, and Jane The Virgin, Galavant, Moone Boy, or the English movie Saving Grace for their warmth, humour, and magical realism, give it a go.

Favourite TV Show episode: It’s hard to choose between The Musketeers S03E06 Death of a Hero, which was a simply superb piece of storytelling, and OUAT S03E11 Going Home. If forced to choose, I’ll go with the latter because of the emotional punch it packed. Snow & Charming giving up their daughter again, Emma being ripped apart from her family, her moment of admission of her feelings for Hook, Regina giving up Henry and gifting Emma happy memories, Emma and Henry driving away and everything fading behind them. It was devastating and brilliant, and I almost wish OUAT had ended there so Emma didn’t have to suffer again.

Two characters who never canonically met but you still ship them: Season 2 Hook from OUAT and Season 1-2 Athos of The Musketeers. Drowning their bitterness and self-loathing in alcohol and sex until Emma and Sylvie come along and make them want to be better men.

Favourite battle scene: The final battle in Rogue One, from the moment the rebels landed on Scarif to the moments they all died. Way to rip my heart open. Stupendous. 

Favourite kiss: Emma and Hook’s first kiss in Neverland. That shit was hot! Turns out none of us could handle it.

Favourite sex scene: I generally prefer sex scenes that are left to my imagination. For example, Darius and Grace in Salvation S01E08 From Russia With Love - the whole set up was perfect: talking about what they’d miss most, dancing to Ella Fitzgerald, "Permission granted.”, “For then or now?” It turns out they didn’t actually have sex, but it sure as hell seduced me! 

One iconic move: Sandy pulling the cigarette out of her mouth, grinding it into the ground with her stiletto, then kicking Danny in the chest in Grease. “ You better shape up, up, up, up...”

A plotline you hated: The Rumbelle relationship in OUAT, especially from Season 3 onwards. I hate how abusive relationships are increasingly being portrayed as romantic (think Twilight, Fifty Shades, etc.) and how stalking and emotional abuse is being dressed up as the kind of passion to be aspired to. It pains me that young impressionable women are growing up romanticising relationships with narcissists. I loved how Big Little Lies blew that crap apart. 

Favourite soundtrack: Monsters Inc. for the sheer joy of it.

Favourite quote: Dr Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park: “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should”. Replace the word ‘scientists’ with ‘politicians’ ...

A character you think would have been better if they were from the opposite sex: None that spring to mind, but I’m looking forward to seeing Jodie Whittaker as the first female Doctor Who. 

A character you think should have died for the sake of the story: all the male clones in Orphan Black. Tatiana Maslany and the other four seasons were amazing, but I wish we could have skipped the whole mess that was Season 3.

A side character you think should have been the protagonist: I'd absolutely love to see a spin-off from Doctor Who called The Adventures of River Song (no, we can’t call it The Time Traveller’s Wife!). I loved every appearance by Alex Kingston in that role. In every role, frankly. She’s a goddess.

A protagonist you think should have been a side character: Dawson. Urgh, he was so annoying. It should have been Pacey’s Creek.

A completely unnecessary and annoying character death: Dr. Mark Greene in ER. I mean, seriously... WTF?! Heartless bastards. How could you do that to Elizabeth? To us?!

Favourite plot twist: Jamal’s brother Salim unexpectedly coming good and sacrificing himself to give Latika the chance to get away in Slumdog Millionaire. The moment I realised what he was going to do, I was an emotional wreck. That's one hell of a redemption.

The type of character you always go for and love: The anti-heroes. The guys (and gals) who dance to their own tune and don’t play by the rules but have their own code and always come through for their people: Spike, Hook, Han & Indi, Hawkeye Pierce, Baloo, Flynn Rider, Megamind, Grue, Merida, Sarah Manning, Anne Bonny, etc.

A movie you would love to watch in another genre: An Annamis & Constagnan-centric Bollywood version of The Musketeers (the BBC TV series, not the movie - being a rebel here! - with the original cast) would be hugely fun! I think it would translate beautifully: the moustaches, the costumes, the choreogaphed sword fights...

((Ten years since the first episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Cheesy and a bit childish, it talked about things that were actually pretty dark for the targeted age group sometimes without making the show dark for darkness’ sake.

I miss you, Sarah, K9, Luke, Clyde, Maria, Rani, Gita, and Mr. Smith. (Esp Sarah, Clyde, Gita, and Rani tbh, but nothing against the rest.)

I’ve put off watching season 5 because I know it’s Liz Sladen’s last and it’d be heartbreaking, and the same for not doing a rewatch (also the Brigadier would break me). The only thing I’ve seen any of the kids in since is the one-off guest star who was Jo Grant’s grandson Santiago Jones (and is now Danny Rand).

I miss you, Sarah Jane Adventures. You were so much better than Class.))

This version of the Tenth Doctor inhabited what will be later labeled by Rose’s vortex manipulator as Universe 208426499992/3 or “Tyler’s World” by this Doctor when meeting other alternate versions of himself. 

He is known to be heavily vain, being the Tenth incarnation for as long as he possibly can and lived out most of the Eleventh, Twelfth, and Half of Thirteen’s tenures with this face alone as a result. He doesn’t plan on changing anytime soon (cocky bastard).

Is very determined when it comes to finding people, knowing to follow an vision of his Rose for almost six victorian streets going by the smell of her shampoo without fail of breath despite the situation he was in at the moment.

Increasingly blunt when it comes to other people developing feelings towards him, knowing to “shutting it down” as a result, becoming unapologetic as a result. Still flirty though.

usually if reminded by his first wife does he actually fall for them and many didn’t fall in this category. The few that has in a while since Sarah Jane, Romana(s) and Jo Grant/Iris Wildthyme: RMT was a first in a while, DoctorDonna!Donna was a close second, Dalek clara echo was a close third. Fashion-wise came to River and The Moment.

Is seen not only just wearing the blue pinstripes/brown pinstripes/bowtie tux but wears varied outfits/suits when running about as well as a lack of “sandshoes” (converses), wearing a variety of shoes. Even wearing ripped jeans at one point, dressing surprisingly human. For his initial suits with RMT, they were a red suit with thin blue strips and blue converses and light blue suit with thin brown stripes and creamy pink converses. So, she knows what her Doctor wears.

Different hairstyles and not afraid of hair dye? this guy.

Kisses still happen. So many kisses and unafraid to do it for undercover or other reasons. Will not go beyond that.

Fought the Devil and Abbadon alongside Torchwood. It was the TARDIS and Jack that killed it. Gwen and him swapped “Jack Watch”, she would watch and then he would watch. When she gave up, he saw Jack’s stomach expand upward and Gwen heard the gasp. Left afterward when Jack got his strength up.

Also called “RMT Doctor”, has the tag c: sir shake opposite of c: dame shiver

Got to lick and taste down to a science, one time landing on Midnight with his Rose that seemed to be able to stay for a small while when she landed in the same module as him and she ended up getting possessed by the entity after being compassionate to the Skye Silvestry-possed creature. He was able to find out exactly what the entity was when he licked the back of her neck as she was in this frozen state. Drawing quickly of what it was and showing it to a talking Skye-Midnight-Creature to confirm its actual appearance. Only when Skye-Midnight creature was sacrifice to the deadly outdoors with a swift kick and a shoe heel breaking, freeing Rose did Rose ended up being ripped away when they got back safely. She punched him in the arm for doing that before fading off again. Still never learned the Hostess name.

Most of it from Rose to Doomsday (and then later Journey’s End) is the same with key differences. (a time line of sorts; with visual links)

Within in this one, this version of the Doctor traveled with Rose before getting separated by her in their universe’s version of Doomsday, landing her in Universe 3/299994624802 (alternative universe to Pete’s World). 

This alternative version of the time lord attempted to have a child with Rose initially when they traveled together to no avail during her universe’s version of this. Also, unintentionally unlocked a bit of the Bad Wolf entity, now being able to age extremely slow much to the horror of both. Now Rose has “nightmarish” dreams where she becomes the entity whenever they end up having sex when there is a lack of mental connection between her and him.

This version actually said “I love you” at the same time Rose ends up blurting it out because she couldn’t find the words to say goodbye. This version is where she becomes a heiress and as a result, a celebrity for the new Vitrex Industries.

Journey’s End is when Rose chose the Doctor instead of the Meta Crisis, giving him her status in her earth alternatives’s Torchwood. This is also where Donna, instead of getting her memory wiped, ends up wearing the Chameleon Arch to rewrite her human DNA to that of a Gallifreyan’s own. She still passes out and ends up back home with a piece of the Tardis of her own.

Ends up getting separated from Rose again, which is the current situation.

When he was supposed to die saving Wilfred Mott, instead he set up a meeting an earlier version of the crew of Teselecta, granting the ship they were now known for as he used their last ship to save Wilfred instead of himself as foretold. It also saved the crew a lot of money if they were to deliver the scrap ship for repairs, abandoning it entirely.

While looking for Rose, this version of Tenth Doctor also landed in Amy’s backyard when she was a child, traveling with an adult Amy, Rory, and River as a result. Meets @girl-in-the-tardis​ Kira, a general the same time he meet River at the Angel Planet (i’ll go back later and change this when i remember the name of it). 

Meets Clara as a Dalek and for once, actually traveled with a Dalek!Clara. Gave her a Dalek Puppet body for this work, in her image. Eventually, she left when she wanted to work with UNIT in building armor for military and technological defense systems after Amy and Rory’s deaths.  He ends up losing them the same way that happened with the Eleventh Doctor in canon. Sees a vision of his Rose. Marries River and Kira off, horrible plan of The Wedding of River Song, except General Kira ducks when it comes to the kiss, leaving ten to get kissed by River and setting the world back to when the Teselecta is killed by River. Gives the crew another ship as a result.

Meets a young Victoria that was born near the Rift, ends up being a young Victoria. Only watched from afar by this Tenth Doctor.

Later meets Governess!Clara and played out the same way it happened with Eleventh Doctor. When facing Dr. Simeon, he commented on the fact that he looked like his Ninth self when he fell into the Rift without a TARDIS that one time. Sees a vision of Rose dressed in Victorian wear, ends up losing her after chasing her for almost five blocks straight. Extra TARDIS grows for the clone that is to come.

Meets the real Clara later. Avoids his death by unintentionally cutting off his opposite hand when fighting wooden Cybermen and poured his regenerative energy in that hand. The other hand grows into the Eleventh incarnation instead of being a twin. Both Travel together before given a the fully grown TARDIS. With a new set of regenerations, he was more than ever set on finding Rose with Clara. The clone regenerates into Twelve. Clara meets Danny Pink and falls for him. Pink still acts the same towards him but, Ten doesn’t act the same as Twelfth incarnation. Ends up losing both the same way in canon. Also meets the Master (Simm) since Missy was the most constant regeneration in his universe vaguely turning into the canonical faces of past Masters but, never met the Simm!goatee version, getting kissed by him and recovers quickly by it. Even more so when finding out about the other’s identity. Meets River for one last time. Clone ends up getting memories of these adventures and ends up meeting Bill. This Tenth Doctor traveled with Bill’s Mother and Twelfth Doctor (clone).

Travels with Bill and Nardole. Ends up avoiding death again with the crew of Teselecta, a new crew this time. The clone regenerates into 13.

Travels still, now with Grace. Grace dies. Now, it’s Yaz, Ryan, 13 and Graham. Also new TARDIS desktop and exterior color. At this point, he’s considered stubborn for not changing face by the clone. Tenth Doctor ends up traveling alone and it is the clone that ends up traveling with Yaz, Graham, and Ryan (experiencing canon adventures).

Rose comes back permanently finally meeting a now bearded Tenth Doctor. When Rose eventually came back permanently, they traveled back to her alternate universe to meet up with her mum and dad and brother, living domestic since the clone version of him was handling herself well (the Meta-Crisis version of him ended up getting married to that universe’s Jack and Ianto due to the Donna side of him winning out).

Cue the onslaught of interviews and press of the daughter returning with a man around her arm and a married ring around her finger and the constant question of her having a baby or not. Because of this, this alternate Doctor and Rose, tried again within the TARDIS, the “human way” and it was successful with a daughter. Still, all of them travel together and he works at UNIT while Rose works with Torchwood alongside her techincal-brother-in-law.

An all-star cast of Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Riley Keough, Sebastian Stan, Mia Wasikowska, Bill Skarsgård, and Jason Clarke lead Antonio Campos’ thriller about corruption and brutality in a postwar backwoods town.

  GREASE (Randal Kleiser, 1978)

A musical classic.

  I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS (Charlie Kaufman, 2020)

The latest directorial effort from the great Charlie Kaufman looks like a haunting mind-bender.

  MAGIC MIKE (Steven Soderbergh, 2012)

One of Steven Soderbergh’s best features a scene-stealing performance from Matthew McConaughey.

I don’t usually post about shows on here, but a prequel series looking at One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest villain Nurse Ratched starring Sarah Paulson in the titular role sounds too good to ignore.

  THE SOCIAL DILEMMA (Jeff Orlowski, 2020)

It’s directed by Tony Scott, written by Shane Black, and stars Bruce Willis.  We could call this the “90’s Trifecta”.

  PEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE (Tim Burton, 1985)

Tim Burton’s debut film is utterly insane, yet absolutely brilliant

  PRISONERS (Denis Villeneuve, 2013)

Denis Villeneuve’s best film to date is a dark, disturbing crime thriller featuring incredible work from Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and cinematographer Roger Deakins.

  THE TERMINATOR (James Cameron, 1984)

One of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made.

  THE TWILIGHT SAGA (Catherine Hardwicke, 2008/Chris Weitz, 2009/David Slade, 2010/Bill Condon, 2011/Bill Condon, 2012)

I’ve only seen one of these (I think New Moon?), but want to give them a whirl at some point.  Maybe now is the time?

A rousing, inspiring indie sports film.

  CHRISTOPHER ROBIN (Marc Forster, 2018)

A somber, sweet look at Winnie the Pooh and the 100 Acre Woods gang.

  D2: THE MIGHT DUCKS/D3 (Sam Weisman, 1994/Robert Lieberman, 1996)

D2 is the best of the trilogy, but D3 is pretty good and bit underrated.

  MULAN (Niki Caro, 2020)

You have to pay $30 to see this one, but I have a feeling Disney’s latest live-action feature is going to be worth is.

  NEVER BEEN KISSED (Raja Gosnell, 1999)

A classic 90’s rom-com featuring a delightful Drew Barrymore.

  THE WOLVERINE (James Mangold, 2013)

One of the best X-Men films and the BEST Wolverine movie (hot take).

Valentine’s Day is a great day to cuddle up and watch a movie about love. In fact, they actually made a movie called Valentine’s Day, but it was just a rip-off of Love, Actually. With so many sappy movies out there, it’s hard to sift out the good from just more of the same.

So we’ve done the work for you! Here are twenty-three of the best romantic movies ever made to watch on Valentine’s Day.

23 – Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

In this moving film, it is slowly revealed that a couple chose to have a procedure that erased memories of each other. Jim Carrey plays Joel, opposite Kate Winslet playing Clementine. As the movie slowly reveals loving and intimate moments in their relationship, you become more and more emotionally involved in the story.

Joel: “I could die right now, Clem. I’m just… happy. I’ve never felt that before. I’m just exactly where I want to be.”

22 – About Time (2013)

Tim Lake (played by Domhnall Gleeson) discovers a superpower when he turns 21: he can travel in time and change past events. While he could try doing any number of things to make the world a better place, he decides to use his power to…get a girlfriend. His romantic interest is Mary (played by Rachel McAdams), and their relationship endures its share of trials and tribulations.

This film is from the creators of Love Actually, and it’s worth a try for anyone looking for a well-done romantic comedy.

21 – The Notebook (2004)

The Notebook is beloved by women everywhere for good reason. Allie (Rachel McAdams) is such a warm and likable character, pursued by the equally charming Noah (Ryan Gosling). Their love story withstands many tests but we realize that it lasts into their old age.

Wonderful performances by McAdams and Gosling have made this a super-popular and award-winning film. It might be cheesy, but it’s heartwarming and genuine too.

Noah: “I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. 20 – Love and Basketball (2000)

While many romance movies are difficult for men to watch, Love & Basketball helps draw male viewers into this “chick flick” genre becuase of its underlying sports theme. Quincy (Omar Epps) and Monica (Sanaa Lathan) meet on the basketball court as kids. Their love/hate relationship develops as their lives continually intersect – they’re both pursuing their individual dreams of playing pro ball.

If you’re young, enjoy sports, or crave passion, this movie’s for you.

19 – Cactus Flower (1969)

Kate Hudson’s mom, Goldie Hawn, won an Oscar for her portrayal of Toni Simmons, a confused 21-year old woman in a relationship with an older man (Walter Matthau). Although it sort of looks like an Austin Powers film, Hawn’s wit and charm allows you to still get into it.

The complicated love story is about the various lies a dentist tells to keep a relationship. Interestingly enough, the story was appropriated by by Adam Sandler in Just Go With It (2011).

Toni Simmons: “Now why don’t you go back and mind your own business like everyone else in New York City?”

Although it’s one of those bleak comedies, Lost in Translation has a great romance at its heart. Bob Harris (Bill Murray) and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) really capture what it feels like to be traveling somewhere completely unfamiliar and wanting a connection. The brief moments of Anna Farris spoofing Cameron Diaz add just the right amount of laughs to tide you over, until the moment when Bob whispers something in Charlotte’s ear and they say goodbye.

Best Quote

Charlotte: “Let’s never come here again because it would never be as much fun.”

17 – When in Rome (2010)

Although Forgetting Sarah Marshall is Kristen Bell’s most popular role, her performance in When in Rome (2010) is underrated. Bell plays Beth, an ambitious New Yorker who steals some coins from a famous love fountain in Italy during her sister’s wedding. Because of her theft, she’s chased down by Danny DeVito, Will Arnett, Jon Heder, and Dax Shepard, who are under a love spell.

The movie is lighthearted, funny, and a great way to create and celebrate a happy Valentine’s Day.

Beth: “Dad. When you married Mom, did you ever think that you wouldn’t make it?”

You’d be hard pressed to come up with a more likeable couple of people than Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. In 50 First Dates, they’re in Hawaii, and after they meet, Henry Roth (Sandler) turns from a playboy to a devoted boyfriend—the only problem is the girl of his dreams has no short-term memory, so she relives the same day over and over. This movie brings laughs, but it’s also a sappy romance movie as only Sandler can do. It’s a chick flick anyone can enjoy.

A testament to just how far a man will go to win over the woman he loves. Slumdog Millionaire portrays a poor man being tortured by the police for being suspiciously good at Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Dev Patel plays one of the most lovable characters on film.

This compelling film won no fewer than eight Oscars and garnered a lot of critical acclaim. The mixture of love, violence, and socioeconomic messages makes for a great date night screening. It’s a great pick to watch with someone who appreciates good films and with whom you want to share an intelligent conversation.

You’re never quite sure who to believe, but you can’t deny there’s chemistry between the two—if there’s anyone who could steal Jolie from Pitt, Depp seems like the type.

12 – This Means War (2012)

11 – (500) Days of Summer (2009)

Zooey Deschanel is that quirky and beautiful girl everyone wants to be or be with. In short, the boy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) meets the girl (Deschanel), and falls in love, but she’s just that into him. The movie highlights their relationship in a non-linear fashion, and is a great portrayal of modern love and relationships. (500) Days of Summer isn’t your traditional romantic comedy, and maybe that’s a good thing – unlike all the others, it’s a thought-provoking film about love.

10 – Walk the Line (2005)

This portrayal of Johnny and June Cash is an epic biopic. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon beautifully capture the essence of the romance. Johnny loved June Carter so much, he knew he had to marry her. Seeing their love blossom over the course of their lives is a great way to celebrate life and a relationship with someone you truly love beyond anything. These two real life people even died around the same time. It’s said Johnny died of a broken heart after June passed.

9 – Ghost Town (2008)

The cynical among us love Ricky Gervais. In Ghost Town, he plays a man who can see dead people and is now doomed to help them with their love problems. Love isn’t always as much fun as it sounds; sometimes, you just end up involved in other people’s drama.

8 – Shrek (2001)

7 – Seems Like Old Times (1980)

Ahhh, the classics. One of the best movies from the 80s, Seems Like Old Times is a Neil Simon film that still maintains its charm. Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn are a divorced couple, and, after being forced to take part in a bank robbery, Chase hides out at Hawn’s house. The only problem is Hawn’s husband (Charles Groden) is the district attorney, so a lot of hijinx ensue. If you pine for an old flame, Seems Like Old Times is the Valentine’s Day romantic comedy for you.

6 – About a Boy (2002)

This is a buddy flick and a romance rolled into one, and it teaches men that parenting isn’t scary. If you’re a slacker who still hasn’t grown up, About a Boy is for you.

The love between Clarence (Christian Slater) and Alabama (Patricia Arquette) is something we all wish we had. By the time this movie reaches its bloody climax, not only will you be in love with Elvis, but you’ll know the origin of Sicilians.

This movie is beautiful, tells an old story; and you’ll look sophisticated for suggesting it. The colorful costumes and set designs are like taking an exotic vacation from your couch.
