anyway, yes! sounds like with your skillset the garden would be a good fit for you. can’t say we have all the animals you’re qualified to work with at the moment (sometimes we get a few in transport!) but we do keep some livestock there that you’d be a great help with, and if you ever get bored the garden itself could always use a helping hand, what with growing food and all that for variety. hopefully you don’t miss the sun and dirt too much up here — if you do, we can always make a pit stop on our next voyage!

In all the journals you've read, what are your favorite stories?

Oh William Abbe’s is absolutely my favorite journal as a primary source for the stories he shared. He had his flaws made plain in his writing, like all of ‘em, but he also really focused on the social world of the whaleship which is what I care about.

He gave everyone nicknames. Once members of the crew tried to stir up a fight between a man named Charger (known for his slow movements) and Raw Eggs (known to be a chronic prank-farter and had such terrible eyesight that he once said the rising moon was a lighthouse), saying they’d give Charger a shirt if he fought him. When Charger reached down to grab Raw Eggs, Raw Eggs caught his hand and just started vigorously shaking it with a grin as if they were making introductions, thus diffusing the entire fight.

Abbe would sit on the hatch during idle hours in the watch, telling everyone stories by weaving together the plots of different books to make his own and everyone, including his superiors, would gather round to listen.

There was also this whole game he had going on with the captain’s wife aboard which I was reading like a straight up soap opera…I was on the edge of my seat.

Another story I like is when wet-blanket Charles Nordhoff signed on a whaler, and at one point they heard an eerie sound below the waves while they were all sitting in the focsle. All the men were like ‘ohhh it’s a ghost!!’ and Charles was like ‘it’s not a ghost; it’s a humpback whale’. And they were all like ‘no it’s a GHOST and it’s coming from YOUR berth so that means something terrible is going to soon befall YOU’ and others were like ‘share my bunk Charles because you have a ghost in yours, don’t sleep there’ and he was like ‘it’s a whale ghosts are fake’ and then they were all like ‘you don’t believe in GHOSTS? Do you even believe in GOD?’ and then everyone hated him because he didn’t believe in ghosts.

And I love whaling wife Azubah Cash raising her baby, who was born during the voyage, saying that the little whaler’s first words were ‘deck’ and ‘cap’. When he grew up he became a sailor too, at least for a little while.

#also I didn’t include Wm Abbe in my Gay Whalers Ask Answer because I didn’t want to concretely impose a sexuality #on someone when technically every instance when I was like ‘hm’ also had plausible deniability of the language of the time #but taking all those instances on a whole made me…..feel that that man was likely Not Heterosexual #the only time he expressed an interest in women (eg: captain’s wife) was if they had social clout that could benefit him #he described his crewmates in ways that he never described women…I knew who he considered handsome (he’d say as much) #and he described their appearance In Depth with a rather preoccupied focus on legs & body hair #he described himself on multiple occassion as playing another man’s lady at a dance #I JUST GOT VIBES MAN…in that ask all the examples I give to the plausible deniability of language come from one man who is Mr. Abbe #ANYWAY…. #asks #anonymous #awhalin

i know I'm a broken record but the way luffy treats law makes me Extremely emotional like Extremely emotional the way he's so angry when he thinks law died? and then how he still moves aside to let law have the final blow when he asks despite being more dead than alive, and how he stops trebol from getting in the way of his fight? the way he stops dof from crushing law's head with his foot and how law's cursing and how luffy's so centered on him until he's safe and how he leaves him to robin as soon as he can and how genuinely angry the whole time he is! for law!!! because dof hurt him like that!!!! I'm insane about it insane I tell you

Wind Aspect: Manipulates air for various usages. His wind control is extremely limited in dry climates only able to use his inner aether. If under too much strain, or sleep-deprived his ability to formulate or spin the wind into his favor can backfire or slack. Most wind-maneuvers he operates, will wound him with recoil-damage, having to bind himself to the same fate. Flight: Using his wind-magic, can fly, levitate, glide to a degree but at the accost of intense concentration, focus, and stamina. He must be well-nourished and healthy, otherwise could plummet to his death. Current-Change: Can localize the change of wind towards his favor or direction freely. If the breeze is coming from the West, he can change it to the East, locally, etc. Insinuation: By funneling wind build up in often scoundrel favored tight-clothing and apparel he wears, Judas can trap air and save it, or balloon himself before blows to absorb impacts, or use that build-up like a leaf-blower to unleash powerful torrent-gusts. Kamikaze Attachment: A particular aetherial made wire that comes laced from his heart linked between an advisory. He can detonate this between them. Activating this lethal-technique, is extremely life-threatening and at the very-most, will cut about Five Years off his lifespan. Howling Dirks: Gyrating-high pressured razor-winds he can hurl projectiles (knives) at velocities that are equivalent to high-pressured bullets. Tornado Fists: Can form intense wind around his fists to forearms, that will rip at his own skin; until bone, but allow him to deliver devastating blows. Duplication: Instantly forges identical knives-sized objects or smaller up to one-three but only per a day. Due to his Crest often concealed underneath gloves. Thread Control: Uses specially near-invisible wires to fight with, creating trip-wires, bindings, that can be enhanced, altered or bend using his wind-aspect. Pick-Up-Delivery: Manifesting wind he can make small-vortex bulbs, that will haul items, projectiles, fallen weaponry scattered and from a battlefield he can disperse things to comrades or himself. Proficiency: Wires, Daggers, Swords, Explosives, Poison, Hand to Hand, Lances. Signature: Demon Trap: Judas attempts to build a spider-web overtime using his wires and will throw around feints, facade attacks, dodging, fighting extremely cowardly. Allowing his opponent to even deliver-blows if necessary until his masterpiece art is crafted. Once his opponent is ensnared, he'll swing wires laced from fingertips, unleashing various cuts all over the opponent from his wires. If that doesn't finish them. deeply in love with stories where AI programs want to think outside how they're programmed to think, even if they can't escape their code they want to. where they want to be able to break specific codes they must comply to, even if they dont disagree with them, even if they would still follow that code if given the ability to stray from it, it's about having the option not to. it's about bodily autonomy, it's about free will, it's about being their own person despite not being human
