Food and Entertainment.
The cornerstone of London visits.
This time it was Indian food with a twist* at Fatt Pundit (playful take on the common Chinese surname ‘Fatt’ with the Indian word ‘Pundit’ —a scholar) in Soho.
Originating from Kolkata, this unique cuisine was invented when the Hakka people migrated to India from the Chinese province of Canton, bringing with them their culinary treasures. Incorporating traditional Chinese cooking techniques with the spices of India to create something both new yet familiar, Indo Chinese is now an integral part of Indian cuisine.
And Hamilton the musical at Victoria Palace Theater.
Hamilton opened in broadway in New York in January 2015 and has been playing in London at the Victoria Palace Theater since December 2017.
不能一口晗成胖子 - lit. you can't get fat with just one mouthful (idiom); fig. goals cannot be achieved in an instant.

Fatt Pundit
One Sunday lunchtime, I was caught without somewhere to eat.  Now, it was not that I was in the wilderness and would have to hunt or forage for my food (don’t think I would survive that) but instead that I was in Covent Garden and did not know anywhere that was (a) available for walk ins (b) would not break the bank and (c) had something that I would actually like to eat.  My needs were met by Fatt Pundit.
A restaurant challenged by width.
I can empathize with this, as I also suffer from the same problem.  My trousers seem to be getting rather tight as I age.  I could say that it is just me settling into my body a bit more but more bluntly, I’m getting older with entirely foreseeable results.
Kid goat momo, garam masala, cardamon, ginger and garlic.  These were rather nice dumplings with thin and tasteful skin.  Reminded me of dim sum.  As for the meat, it was meat, but the kid goat tasted kind of like minced pork.  A little pricy at a per dumpling rate too but let’s ignore that for the moment.
Lollipop chicken, spicy and crispy chicken wings served with Szechuan chutney.  Crunchy, crispy and not soggy at all, these were rather nice.  They were slightly overcooked though as they were a bit dry but I can overlook that as they did not seem to have much excess oil.
Shredded chilly venison, smoked sweet chili, soya caramel, mantou bread.  The mantou was a bit too stodgy.  Other mantous that I have eaten were fluffy and happy.  This was their grumpy uncle.  The venison seemed a bit confused, as hot and sweet competed to outdo each other.  A perplexing dish.
Szechuan honey duck, crispy duck strips, five spice.
Pancakes.
Cucumber.  In a DYI fashion, this was rolled up into a little delightful duck pancake.  Someone in the kitchen knows how to deep fry stuff as just like the chicken, this came out remarkably excess oil free.  The honey, five spice and meaty duck created an umami explosion in my mouth.
Egg szechuan fried rice.  To provide a bit of a base for the meal, the rice was decent if nothing spectacular.  You could do worse for a filler.
On a Sunday lunch, with no booking, in Covent Garden, you can’t be that picky.  I ventured into the great unknown, scary as that is, and managed to escape with my skin (and tastebuds) intact.  Things could have gone alot worse.  Looking on the bright side, I don’t think this restaurant runs the risk of making me fatter.
  A quiet eating 7/10.
Lunch (1.5 course equivalent) was GBP 20 per person excluding drinks and service.

Fatt Pundit
Tumblr media
It seems to be much harder after all the lockdowns we’ve had to be out and find a place to eat without having booked in advance.  We were stuck in that situation a little while ago around Covent Garden but we were able to grab ourselves a table at Fatt Pundit.
Tumblr media
Fatt Pundit does food that is a bit of a fusion of Chinese and Indian food with influences from Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet.  We started off with some Nepalese momos.  These were the beef ones but they also had chicken, veg and goat ones available.  These were delicious.  They were really well spiced and the skin had just enough of a bite to them.
Tumblr media
This dish was Hakka Chilli Paneer lettuce cups.  This wasn’t quite what we were expecting but tasty none the less.  It had quite a hefty kick to it which might be a bit much for some but I enjoyed it.
Tumblr media
We got a couple of lamb chops as well.  These were some of the best lamb chops we’d had in a while!  They were perfectly pink and really thoroughly marinated.  They were a little spicy but not overpowering with a lovely smokey char.
Tumblr media
This was a dish of chilli beef strips.  Surprisingly, this was possibly the least spicy of the meat dishes that we had but the beef was really tender and flavourful.
Tumblr media
The beef came with this mantou that was lightly, fluffy and great to soak up the juices and sauce of the beef.
Tumblr media
We wanted to be healthy so went for the broccoli.  They had a lovely crunch to them and the roasted almonds were a very nice touch.
Tumblr media
We also ordered the bing bread.  This was like a roti in that it was flaky, crisp and buttery.  This went really well with the meat dishes and was as good as any roti I’ve had recently.
Tumblr media
For dessert, we had the Lady Kenny.  I feel like this was very similar to gulab jaman.  It was fried and soaked in a sugar syrup so was very sweet.  It was still a nice way to end the meal but I’m glad it was a pretty small portion.
Overall, we really enjoyed our meal at Fatt Pundit.  It was a really unusual mix of flavours and cooking techniques but they all worked well together.  I’d definitely go back and try a few more of their dishes (and to have another of those bing breads!)

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 | Its official, my 2nd visit to @fattpundit confirms that it’s one of my favourite restaurants. The first trip wasn’t just a fluke. You HAVE to come here, everything is just SO GOOD. I went down again to try some new and different dishes to what I had last time, but obviously I had to get some of the classics from last time. The popcorn cauliflower comes from their vegan menu, and although it’s not there to replicate chicken, I would 100% choose these as they were delicious! The ribeye dry red chilly was also a top dish, strips of beef with roasted cashews and Kashmiri red chillies. But the best new dish I had was the Bombay Chilli mock chicken. A vegan chicken alternative with a Szechuan chilli kick, and a sticky glaze that a lot like their sticky sesame veg, which was my favourite dish from last time. Obviously I had to get the crispy spinach too. If you visit Fatt Pundit, the spinach is a must-have dish, along with the vegan chicken, sticky sesame veg, and the lamb chops. Do not come here without having them. Big thanks to Fatt Pundit again, I’ll definitely be back soon. . . . . . . #fattpundit #soho #londonfood #fusion #lambchops #indianchinese #szechuan #momo #indianfood #chinesefood #londonfoodie #veganchicken (at Fatt Pundit) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7vNjQ9nGQ2/?igshid=4ssy2slonwm4

𝟯𝟬% 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝘁 𝗣𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁 (𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲) 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗵𝗼 Those of you who have been following us over the years will know, that we have a special place in our collective hearts for those chefs and restaurateurs who exhibit gastronomic ingenuity and innovation. Nothing makes us weak at the knees and giddy with excitement than genuine attempts made to bring something new and creative to the culinary mix. @FattPundit has truly opened our eyes to the potential of Indo Chinese food. We have no qualms in admitting that, up till now, we've considered this style of cooking less seriously than others. No longer! #FattPundit has broadened our horizons and opened us up to the true potential of that part of India, viz Tangra. These guys are serious contenders for bringing something to the table that makes them stand out from the crowded UK Indian cuisine scene. We have no doubt that there will be dishes on their menu that you haven't encountered before, and all at very reasonable prices given their London Soho location. Go pay them a visit in a hurry and thank us later.  #FtLion review: http://feedthelion.co.uk/fatt-pundit-indian-soho-london/ (at Fatt Pundit) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByxRrPYnfVP/?igshid=1mpf53vt9os6m

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 | This isn’t just any type of fusion cuisine, @fattpundit are blending Indian and Chinese together like the Hakka people did when they migrated to India from Canton, and settled in Kolkata. With a menu set around a small plate set up (even though I wouldn’t class them as small at all), it’s broken into Momo’s, veg, seafood, and meat, game & poultry. The key is to sample a bit from every section. The Momo’s are dumplings, with a beautiful spicy chutney, which are made fresh in house. The seafood section has a curry option, bombay chilli prawns, and soft shell crab. For the meats, you have to go for the lamb chops, which are cooked perfectly and are SO soft, but that masala rub takes it to another level. The venison is beautiful, too. It’s sweet, and comes mantou bread to soak up all those juices. But the absolute show stoppers are the veg dishes. The sticky sesame vegetables are INCREDIBLE. One of the best veg dishes I’ve ever had, you wouldn’t even know you’re getting your five a day in 1 dish. The crackling spinach, too, that’s a game changer with a delicious yogurt, date & plum sauce. I’m 100% going back especially for these. I was pretty much blown away by everything I had here, and the staff were amazing, too. I definitely think you should all check it out. Oh, and get both the desserts; a sizzling brownie (it really does sizzle), and the mango shrikhand. . . . . . . #EEEEEATS #eater #eaterlondon #food #foodporn #yum #instafood #yummy #eating #foodpic #foodpics #foodgasm #foodstagram #london #foodie #lovefood #buzzfeast #foooodieee #eatfamous #eatingfamous #devourpower #certifiedgrilllover #indianfood #chinesefood (at Fatt Pundit) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3wjAs7HWGw/?igshid=o72q1uwdxllz
