"Ugh. There's a group at the barrier again." Star squinted over the buildings they were all sprawled on almost lazily. "Seriously? I thought the GIW would have given up by now since there's 'no more humans' here," Sam's voice was sarcastic as she combed claws through her hair. The others grumbled in agreement, Valerie spreading her wings in a stretch. "Who wants to bet Danny is already about to crash their intrusion?" "Hah! I bet Dash is there already to video it!" "Those are both suckers bets," Wes scoffed, clear eyelid closing over his eyes and temporarily dimming the glow. "Let's be honest, Paulina has already left, she's going to get there first."

The GIW have been having a bit of trouble. Maybe just a bit. See, they were supposed to be taking care of the ecto-entities. Studying them, y'know? But er, some earlier agents had been a bit trigger happy, which meant the entities were well... aggressive. And a city full of dragon-fae-beings disliking any presence wearing white was rather terrifying, so they... might have gotten permission to bring a hero with them. For protection of course. ... Hopefully no one dies-

I've been eating up the infection au's on tumblr, so here's one for flight rising about all the flights & how it developed!

Shade Virus: Upon awakening the Shade, the Arcanist realizes that something has gone terribly wrong. The dragons he rules have been getting...sick. The diseased dragons cough up black mucous and rapidly starve, rejecting food and water. He has yet to understand what the Shade has done to his dragons, but he's running out of time.

Arcane: Since the progression of the virus, Arcane is in ruins. There are very few survivors left as they try to navigate a Shade stricken land. The Arcanist was the first deity to die.

Wind: A temporary safe haven for homeless dragons (as long as they are not ill). Windsinger has banned all travel, so Wind Flight is grounded. Infected dragons are herded or thrown into the Twisting Crescendo.

Plague: Plaguebringer is endlessly amused. All infected are killed upon sight for being weak and succumbing to disease. Ironically this makes it the safest area... if you are strong enough to survive.

Ice: Complete Lockdown, no contact with other tribes. No one allowed in, no one allowed out. Any infected are placed into jail. There's talk of guards threatening dragons for money... those who can't cough it up are thrown in as a meal.

Fire: The naturally high temperature of fire discourages incubation. They are currently working with Lightning to discover a vaccine. Dragons here believe there is no hope of a cure.

Lightning: Dragons are overworked and overtired, which makes them very susceptible to the Shade Virus. Power and engineering is no longer a priority, just survival.

Light: Suspiciously quiet. No one has heard anything since the virus began to spread across Sornieth. A scout sent from Shadow discovered that he couldn't cross into light territory. Some kind of force field he said. All he could see were... uninfected dead dragons. Reports of rotting smell, but no signs of life.

Shadow: All shadow primal killed, upon suspicion of being involved with the shade. Those who escaped Her wrath may be immune. Shadow dragons are currently shunned by other flights due to an irrational fear that they may be carrying the disease.

Earth: Since their territory touches Arcane, they had very early infection. Dragons here wear heavy armor to prevent bites from infected & masks to prevent transmission. They are currently trying to distribute knowledge about preventative measures, but there are too few members.

Nature: Dragons living in the Gladeveins currently suspect that the disease can spread through unsanitary water, as well as bites and airborne particles from infected dragons. Discovered first case of Shade infected plants, currently running out of food...

Water: Reports of a wingless dragon the 'Shade Queen' purposefully infecting dragons. It seems in the Tidelord's absence things have descended into anarchy. Avoid water at all costs, you will be dragged under if you approach.

people who know more about canon lore than I do help me out: flight funerary/mourning practices? topical for some lore I’m working on… I’ll start.

Light Flight: cremation (partly to prevent emperors), night vigils with candles to send the deceased off (so their way forward is lit), outdoor ceremonies dressed in white or pale yellow (traditional flight colors), getting together on the death anniversary/at a specific time after death to honor their loved one (and celebrate that they haven’t risen as an emperor)

ok lemme just start this off by saying i know i said i wouldnt rlly be active in posting stuff for awhile but. i lied oops

you are sort of right yes!!! with the whole imprisonment thing! let me give a bit more backstory first so things make sense :

since the circus bunch lives in hyrule while the whole ganondorf apocalypse thing is happening, pipimi is sort of their mini savior! since the link of this world is too far away to help them and too busy in the main areas of hyrule.

they r far enough away from the inner sections of hyrule to where they arent entirely affected by the main stuff everyone else is (dangerous monsters, plague spread, malice growth) but they arent immune from it. the malice (and malice in this au grows like crystals, large fleshy red crystals that bleed!) would bleed and seep into the waterways and possibly run down rivers their way, infecting their water.

so its sort of like The Plague (the fossils plague to be exact, a plague created by ganondorf that slowly turns the host into a stone statue) but worse, like a parasitic bug in ur brain almost!

halimaw got infected by the malice-water and started becoming brash and killing coworkers and visitors, and demanded to anyone he could not immediately kill that they bring him to ganondorf so he can 'serve his leader'. they could Not let this guy roam free of course. hes ruining business! so sirko compromised with him, occasionally feeding him a random visitor to the circus so that he stays in the basement. halimaw's agreement to this compromise allowed them to lock him on the basement for good, unbeknownst to him.

so thats the majority of how halimaw got thrown into the basement ! he doesnt stay there forever of course, and he does get justice, but not without sacrifice! :3

the main plotline (the mission to kill ganondorf) goes on long enough to where others in the circus start to become sick, showing early signs of the infection that halimaw currently inhibits.

this is quite literally right before vahlu (this au's link) slays ganondorf though, so when pipimi finally finds out its the water supply thats making everyone crazy and ill, everyone praises her for finding the problem and being the one to help vanquish it ; when in reality, the malice just sort of. dissipated because ganondorf was no longer living.

(and yes, i did add that little last part for yuri purposes .. holiday gets sick and pipimi blames herself .. after all, everything was just fine before she arrived. whys suddenly everything going wrong? :] )

#poll #writing #this is more directed at people who at least somewhat regularly interact with me btw #just bc like #if you don't then #you'll probably never see any work that i post anyway #i'll probably be rbing this throughout the day #also btw that's a mexican free-tailed bat #they have the fastest flight of any mammal and can keep up with a peregrine falcon #(considering a peregrine falcon's flight speed not their diving speed) #and they make up the largest colony of mammals! #the colony at bracken cave in san antonio tx is home to around 15-20 million mexican free-tailed bats depending on the year #(they're a migratory species) #but if you want a cool bat viewing experience then there's another cave two hours west in a town called concan #it's the second biggest colony with 10-15 million per year and you can get way closer to the bats #(still regulated ofc) (but a lot closer) (seriously like you can smell the guano) (which doesn't smell as bad as you'd think) #i'd advise going in late august to account for both weather and when the bats will be there #i'm just always gonna be partial to the frio bat flight in concan bc i went to it a lot growing up #it's what sparked and maintained my love of bats <3 #it's also where i got my url!! their hold music is the song linked in my bio it's great i love it sm #ok i need to shut up bc i could literally talk about bats and this cave all day
