the sweater challenge | shinsou h. x oc
Tumblr media
summary: in which mina begs kaida to do a tiktok challenge with her boyfriend
pairing(s): shinsou hitoshi x hiyama kaida (THAVQ/MY OC)
warning(s): suggestive(?)
word count: 825
Tumblr media
Look, it wasn't that Kaida didn't know how to use TikTok, it was that she didn't want to. She thought it was kind of dumb. Of course, when one of her best girlfriends begged her to get it and just see what it was about, only then did she actually understand. Like any other social media, it was addicting to watch videos of people's lives pass by the For You page.
Mina was quick to take her phone and have them follow each other, even following the rest of the girl’s accounts even if they didn't post any. Honestly, Hagakure and Ashido were the only ones that posted anything, and they were usually doing dancing videos. It was hard to tell what  Hagakure was doing because of her Quirk but she was probably pretty good. Ashido liked to show off and that was good for her; she was really popular.
They did sit down together and ended up finding a few of their other classmate’s tiktoks. Namely: Kaminari. Oh, this boy. Kirishima and Sero were featured frequently, doing dumb things. Like they do. He also liked to try and get Bakugo on camera, which was hilarious all in itself. But here Mina was sending different videos for Kaida to try with Shinsou and it had her shaking her head in disbelief. She couldn't be serious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, here she was, waiting for the right moment to set up her phone and do this stupid thing. She already had Shinsou's hoodie thrown over her tank top and they both were sitting on her bed doing their own things. Well, they were both doing homework at one point, now it was Hiyama getting fed up with Mina as she played on her phone, the two of them listening to music from her laptop.
Hitoshi glanced at her, raising a brow at how fidgety she had gotten. Sure, her tics made her fidgety already, but this was something else. He didn't push it though, seeing that it was her phone that was causing it.
What seemed like forever, Hitoshi finally had to get up and do something out of the room. Use the bathroom, but still, that gave her more than enough time to set her phone up on her desk and press record, waiting for him to come back as she fixed herself, glancing at the phone from the corner of her eyes just as he walked out of the bathroom. He raised a brow, wondering why in the hell his girlfriend was just standing in the middle of the room, playing with her fingers and not being able to look him in the eye.
"You okay..?" The question came out laced with hesitance, slowly stepping towards her. Though her cheeks were turning red, she raised her arms, finally looking at him. More confusion just crossed his face and he stepped closer. "What are you doing?"
Not getting an answer, he kind of chuckled, brows furrowed as he slowly raised his hands and gently tapped them against hers, looking at her for a reaction. She shook her head, head twitching a couple of times after. He knew it bothered her but, oh, that was cute. "Kai, c'mon, you're not giving me anything here." Said girl was actually finding this funny, though she was doing her best to hide it. Sighing, he leaned in and wrapped his arms around her waist, picking her up. Her arms stayed raised, so he set her back down. "Sweetheart," he drawled, hands still resting on her waist. "Use your words."
He almost got her with that name.
Shaking her head again, she made little grabby hands, Shinsou just barely catching the movement, before she glanced down then back up at him. Kaida swore she saw his eyes widen the slightest bit but wasn't sure. Fortunately for him, she missed the pink rising in his cheeks. Attempting to keep his cool stature, he smirked playfully and slid his hands down to take hold of the edge of the hoodie and pull it up, watching her. Her fingers were already starting to dig under the sleeves and he chuckled, pulling it over her head and looking at her expectantly. Kaida snorted, dropping her arms and leaning into Hitoshi.
This boy was so confused, chuckling, and dropping the hoodie on top of her head as he put his hands back on her waist. "What just happened?" She giggled as she shook the hoodie off of her, catching it and tossing it onto the bed.
"M'sorry, it was a dumb thing Mina wanted me to do." Whining, Kaida pulled away from him so she could pick up her phone and stop the recording. He watched her and rose a brow, smirk still adorning his face as his arms wrapped the rest of the way around her, his chin slotting over her head.
“...If you wanted me to take off your clothes, you coulda just asked.”
“Hitoshi Shinsou!”

To Have A Villain’s Quirk
ELEVEN: SAFETY
Tumblr media
Song: Young Folks - The Wind and The Wave
Reporters clamored around the entrance to UA, pushing almost every student that came in to answer questions. While a lot of the reporters were caught up with the other students, Kaida used that to her advantage, slipping through the crowd with her head down. She practically ran past everyone to get inside. She hated the press with a fiery passion. They did nothing but put words in people's mouths, and twist the truth. And she could see by the look on their teachers face, that Mr. Aizawa felt the same. He practically shooed the reporters away as he walked inside, Kaida in front of him as they walked. She was trying to make sure they didn't catch too many of her classmates. Finally up in the classroom, Kaida hummed to herself as she watched the students find their seats, with Aizawa soon entering the room. He was probably out talking to the principle.
"Decent work on yesterday's combat training, you guys. I saw the video feeds and went over each of your team's results. Bakugo. You're talented. So don't sulk like a child about your loss, okay?" She could hear the boy in question simply huff in response. "And Midoriya. I see the only way you won the match was by messing up your arm again. Work harder. And don't give me the excuse that you don't have control over your quirk. That line's already getting old. You can't keep breaking your body while training here. But your Quirk will be really useful if you can get a handle on it." Kaida was sure that that was the first time that he had actually really complimented the boy. "So, show a little urgency, huh?"
"And Hiyama." Kaida flinched as she hesitantly rose her eyes to those of her teachers, instantly regretting it. "Not only did you attack a student, you skipped out on combat training. Something that would really be useful for you. While I get that you were trying to protect Midoriya, it wasn't your place and was completely unnecessary. That being said, I want at least a four page essay explaining why you did what you did on my desk tomorrow, and a proper apology to Bakugo and All Might for disrupting class." She bowed her head, nodding quickly.
    "Y-yes, sir!"
"Let's get down to business. Our first task will decide your future." Kaida held her breath. She was lucky she didn't get detention, but another task to determine if they're still worthy to be here? "You all need to pick a class representative." Oh, good. Just normal school stuff! Kirishima immediately started trying to get people to pick him, followed by Kaminari and the purple haired girl, Jiro. Aoyama also joined, Mina right after, even little grape boy. She was surprised that Bakugo wanted it as bad as he did.
"Silence, everyone, please!" Iida bellowed, shutting everyone down. "The class representative's duty is to lead others. That's not something just anyone can do. You must first have the trust of every student in the classroom. Therefore, the most logical way to fill this position is democratically. We will hold an election to choose our leader!"
"It's pretty obvious you want us to vote for you." Kaida simply rolled her eyes. Isn't it obvious who should be the representative though? Iida really knows what he's doing, she didn't understand why it should be up for debate. Of course, everyone's arguments were true in statement, saying that most people would vote for themselves.
"Most people will. But that means whoever does receive multiple votes must truly be the most suitable person for the job. It's the best way, right, sir?" He looked over to Aizawa, who was zipping himself up into his sleeping bag.
"Do what you want, just decide before my nap's over." Some teacher.
                                                                                                    *
Soon the election results were in. And Midoriya and Yaoyorozu were at the top. Midoriya with three votes, and Yaoyorozu with two. There was a lot of surprise coming from the green haired boy and the angry blond. Sure, Kaida thought that Iida would be a good fit, but that didn't mean she couldn't just vote for herself. She knew she wouldn't get it anyways. Although, it looked like Iida was pretty upset over the results. They pulled the two top students to the class, Aizawa waking from his nap just to give the results they already knew. Poor Midoriya was shaking away.
"Alright, the class rep is Midoriya, and our deputy is Yaoyorozu."
"R-really? Uh. It's not a mistake?" She was sure Izuku was going to explode from nervousness, and everyone was looking at him in confusion. Yaoyorozu just seemed a little annoyed. Everyone started to get behind the idea though. Except the boy who suggested the voting system. Kaida rested her cheek against her hand, watching the exchange. Soon, it was lunch time, and Kirishima and Kaminari stopped by Kaida's desk with their usual grins.
"Hey, Kai, wanna join us for lunch?" Denki asked, both boys stuffing their hands in their pockets as they waited for the girl to respond. Mina peeked her head around their figures with a smile.
"Hey, guys! Mind if I join?" The pinkette joined the trio, standing beside them with her hands on her hips. Kai's eyes widened a bit as she looked between them before a smile started to form on her face. Friends. Standing up, the smile only grew as she nodded her head.
"Sure, let's all go together!" Mina grabbed Kaida's arm, squeezing her close to her as she pulled her out of the room, the boys quickly following with shouts of protest. Hiyama's face exploded into a dark red at Mina's forwardness, looking to the blond for help. Both of the boys just watched with small chuckles coming out, Denki just shook his head, basically telling her she was on her own. She let the girl drag her along, Kaminari and Kirishima walking on either side of them, listening to the conversation they were having. She tried to keep up, giving small inputs, but mostly laughing at their behaviors. She loved how friendly and accepting they were of her, going as far as asking her to join them for lunch.
Lunch was spent getting to know each other mostly, but finding out that Kirishima and Mina already knew each other from Middle School. Kaida was hesitant to open up but mostly mentioned a little of her family, and how she went to school with Bakugo and Izuku. It started getting more into their hobbies and the things they liked and disliked. It was weird for her. The only other person she told this stuff to was Izuku, but it looked like they were gaining different friend groups, but still being friends since they were in the same class. It was honestly kinda nice having different friends, in her opinion. It showed just how dependent they had become on one another. While Kaida and Denki were watching Mina and Eijiro talk excitedly about something, the two throwing in their two cents every now and again, an alarm bell started ringing. It sent everyone on edge, jumping in surprise.
"Wh-what's going on?!" Ashido shouted, Hiyama quickly jumping up, along with Kirishima. A robotic announcement came over the intercom, causing the four to exchange worried looks.
"Warning. Level Three security breach. All students please evacuate the building in an orderly fashion." They gasped, looking around as all of the students started to take off into the halls. Everyone was yelling and screaming in fear, trying to escape the building, while Kaida quickly activated her quirk, wrapping her tails around the other three's waists.
"Kaida, what are you doing?" Kaminari asked, raising his hands a bit as they stared at her back. The tails had caused her undershirt to come untucked, letting them loose as she moved away from everyone, raising her friends out of the way. They would get trampled at this rate. She quickly led them around the people, using an extra tail to hold onto the rafters away from everyone. It was the only way they wouldn't get trampled. So, when the crowd was mostly gone, she lowered them back down to the ground, dropping herself next to them. "Whoa, thanks Kai!"
    "That could've been a disaster."
"Look outside, there has to be something everyone's not seeing." She said, the four of them running to the windows.
"It's just the press!" Mina called out, hands pressed against the glass.
    "Really, that's it?"
                                                                             *
After the fuss was all over, and they all returned to class, Yaoyorozu stood up, Midoriya following her to the front of the class. Midoriya was back to being a mess over being class rep, but she gave him a quick smile and a nod. He glanced at her after he was done stuttering, taking a small breath. "First, there's something that I wanna say. I've thought a lot about this. And I think Tenya Iida should be our class rep! He was able to capture everyone's attention and get us in line. So, I believe that he should be the one leading our class from now on!" Kaida looked down as she smiled. Iida was going to get the position anyways, they should've known.
"Yeah, you know what? If Midoriya vouches for him, I'm good. Plus he was a big help. He totally manned up and took charge, right?" Kirishima chimed in, Kaminari nodding his head in agreement.
"Yup! Oh! Did you notice he looked like the dude on the emergency exit signs when he was on the wall earlier?" That comment caused the four friends to giggle before Aizawa called it a waste of time. It shut them right up.
"I don't care who the rep is, just hurry up."
"If Midoriya is nominating me for this job... then I humbly accept. I pledge to carry out the duties of class rep to the best of my abilities!" Iida stood up, proudly proclaiming. Kirishima gave him a thumbs up.
"Sounds good, Emergency Exit!" Cue the giggles, with Kaminari joining in. "Emergency Exit Iida! Don't let us down, man!"
                                                                                              *
It was an ordinary night when she got home, spending a lot of missed time with her family now that they were all back together. Kaida did spend most of the night writing out her essay for Aizawa and writing proper apology letters to All Might and Bakugo. She was nervous to give her letter to Katsuki. Why? Because she was sure he was just going to rip it up in front of her and tell her to get lost. She was prepared for it. Nearly midnight, she as finally finished with the papers, putting them neatly in her folders in her bag. Hardly getting any rest that night, she felt like a zombie in the morning, fueling up on flesh and coffee before she was off to school. She held her folder in her hands, ready to hand the papers in. She had entered the school grounds when she saw him, slouched over and grumpy as usual. She took a deep breath before she sped up her walking. "Katsu! Wait up!" He merely grunted as he slowed down, turning a little. He saw the folder and rolled his eyes.
"If you have that stupid apology letter, don't bother. S'not like you meant it. Just throw it out." He said, starting to walk again. She huffed and ran to stand in front of him, making him growl. "Get out of my way, Red."
"Please, you don't have to read it. Just accept it so I can tell Aizawa I gave it to you. That's all I'm asking." She bowed a little as she held out the paper to him. He scoffed, snatching the paper from her, gripping it tightly in his balled fist.
"Tch, fine, whatever." She let herself finally breathe as he walked away from her, her smiling a little. One target down, two more to go.
Entering the classroom, she quickly laid her essay on Aizawa's podium, taking her seat as the day commenced. She could see him nod in satisfaction as he skimmed over it. He set it aside as classes began. When training rolled around, everyone seemed pretty pumped up about it. "Today's training will be a little different. You'll have three instructors. Me, All Might, and another faculty member will be keeping tabs on you."
"Sir! What kinda training is this?" Sero called out, everyone looking to Aizawa for answers. He held out a card.
"Rescue. You'll be dealing with natural disasters, shipwrecks, stuff like that." He explained.
"Disasters, huh? Sounds like we're in for a big workout." Kaminari said, Ashido joining in happily. Kirishima seemed pretty excited about it, and some other students joined in.
"Guys, I'm not finished yet." That shut everyone up for the time being. "What you wear in the exercise is up to you. I know you're excited about costumes... but keep in mind that you haven't gotten used to them yet, and they might limit your abilities. This special training's at an off-campus facility, so we'll be taking a bus to get there. That's all. Start getting ready." Immediately, everyone was up, Kaida was first to grab her case, waiting for Mina so they could walk together to the changing room. They talked, well, Mina talked, Kaida mostly listened, while they got dressed, some of the other girls joining in with how they were going to be doing the rescue training. Soon, they were all gathering outside while they waited for the bus. It wasn't long before Iida was calling them to gather around.
"Using your student numbers, form two neat lines so we can load the bus efficiently." He shouted, blowing a whistle as he went. Kaida couldn't help but giggle a little bit, Mina laughing along with her. No way anyone was going to do that. They wanted to sit together. Besides, when they boarded, it had a more open layout than they were expecting. Mina promptly called Iida out on needed to chill as they rode along. Kaida ended up seated in between Mina and Kaminari. The mustard blond took that chance to get to know her more. She didn't try to give him too much to work with, and it ended with him calling her a mystery and shooting her a wink. It made her roll her eyes, but her face was slightly pink as she looked away from him, Mina taking her attention now. Of course, the back and forth between the rest of the class and Bakugo caught her attention, causing her to laugh at Kaminari's comment.
"Y'know, we basically just met you. So, it's kinda telling that we all know your personality is flaming crap mixed with garbage." He shrugged, and it sent Kaida into a small fit of giggles as Bakugo yelled.
"You're gonna regret the day you applied to this school, you loser...! And stop fucking laughing, Red! I'll kill both of you!" She only stuck out her tongue to anger him more, giggling with Ashido as she joined in, the two teasing him.
"Hey, hey, we're here. Stop messing around." Aizawa said, standing from his seat. There was a chorus of 'yes sir's as things quieted down a little, everyone looking out the windows to look at the dome like building. As they left the bus, the rescue hero, Thirteen was waiting for them. Thirteen was an amazing hero, and just seeing them in person made her almost as giddy as Midoriya. They were one of her favorite heroes! Entering the dome, she was in awe. It was amazing! There were so many areas to simulate rescue operations, to train in environments you're not used to. Her eyes seemed to sparkle as she looked around, a big grin forming on her face.
"A shipwreck. A landslide. A fire. A windstorm. Et cetera-- I created this training facility to prepare you to deal with different types of disasters. I call it the Unforeseen Simulation Joint. But, you can call it, USJ!"
"Hey, shouldn't All Might be here already? Lemme guess, he booked an interview instead." A smartass comment came from Aizawa, questioning All Might's whereabouts. Thirteen closed in and said something but she couldn't hear them. She was too busy in awe. Aizawa turned back around to face the group. "The clock's ticking. We should get started."
"Excellent! Before we begin, let me just say one thing. Well, maybe two things. Possibly three, four, or five..- Listen carefully. I'm sure you're aware that I have a powerful Quirk. It's called Black Hole. I can use it to suck up anything and turn it into dust." They explained. Midoriya quickly chimed in as Uraraka bounced beside him.
"Yeah, you've used Black Hole to save people from all kinds of disasters before, haven't you?"
"That's true, but my Quirk could also be very easily used to kill." Kaida flinched as it reminded herself of her own quirk. "Some of you also have powers that can be dangerous." She felt as though Thirteen was looking right at her. Of course, all of the faculty members knew about the drawbacks of Hiyama's quirk. "In our superhuman society, all Quirks are certified and stringently regulated, so we often overlook how unsafe they can actually be. Please don't forget that if you lose focus or make the wrong move, your powers can be deadly. Even if you're trying to do something virtuous like rescue someone." The girl put her head down. "Thanks to Aizawa;s fitness tests, you have a solid idea of your Quirk's potential. And because of All Might's combat training, you likely experienced how dangerous your powers can be when used against other people. Carry those lessons over to this class. Today, you're going to learn how to use your Quirks to save people's lives. You won't be using your powers to attack enemies or each other, only to help. After all, that's what being a hero is all about. Ensuring the safety of others. That's all I have to say. Thank you so much for listening." As they finished talking, they bowed, the class erupting into a cheer for them. Kaida even clapped a little bit.
"Right. Now that that's over..." Aizawa started, before electricity started to crackle through the buildings lights, the fountain in the middle of the dome sputtering before it looked like it started a type of swirling motion. A purple vortex was taking over in front of it, Kaida stepping forward as Aizawa began to turn around, realizing that something just wasn't right. The purple vortex erupted across the ground, and they could see a hand starting to reach out of it.

To Have A Villain’s Quirk
NINETEEN: THANK YOU
Tumblr media
Song: Demons - Imagine Dragons
"Hey, Mina and Kai never came back after their match. You guys think they're okay?" Kaminari leaned over to Bakugo and Kirishima, watching the fight between Tokoyami and Yaoyorozu. Kirishima hummed, tilting his head a little while Jirou turned to listen in on their conversation.
"I dunno.. you guys saw Kai. Something was off about her."
"Red's a big girl, she can handle herself." Bakugo snapped at the two, arms crossed as he got comfortable, glancing at the red head. "Don't you have a match to get ready for?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm goin'." No one was going to mention the fact that Bakugo had just basically complimented the girl. "I'm just worried about her.." Jirou stood, walking past them to the aisle.
"I'll go check on them. I'll let you know how she is." The few around them nodded before she left the bleachers, leaving the rest hoping the girl was okay.
*
"Guys, I still haven't heard anything from Jirou. And the last match is over.." Denki was bouncing his leg, looking at his classmates while they exchanged glances. Midoriya wanted to be there but he was facing Todoroki next and was pulled away by Iida and Uraraka to prep for it. They reassured him that they would find out what was going on. So, everyone, excluding those three and Todoroki were on their way to find the missing three.
"Where the fuck are you all going? The second round is starting soon." Bakugo's voice boomed behind the group, him raising a brow. Kirishima stepped forward.
"Mina and Kai still haven't come back, and Jirou was supposed to message us but we haven't heard anything. Something might be wrong." The ash blond clenched his teeth as he 'tsk'ed and walked past all of them, checking all of the rooms down the hall, with the rest of them following.
*
Kyoka and Mina jumped as the door slammed open, revealing an angry Bakugo, along with the rest of the class. Ashido quickly stood, holding her hands up to them while Jirou held Hiyama's hand. A few of the class hung towards the back while Eijiro, Denki, Toru, Katsuki, and a few others started towards her. Mina pushed Bakugo back, shaking her head.
"Don't.." She said it softly, herself on the brink of tears while they looked at her with wide eyes.
"What the fuck happened, Raccoon Eyes? Why the hell is she crying?!" He started to push past her but she stayed in his way. Denki and Eijiro helped pull him back a little. "Get off me! What the hell's your deal, Red?!" She had a vacant look in her eyes as she shook, her hand gripping Kyoka's tightly. He pushed past them and grabbed the girl by the shoulders, shaking her to get her attention.
"Bakugo, just drop it. Leave her alone." The girl defended, not daring to look at any of them.
"Shut it, Ears!"
"Bakugo! Her dad just died, back off!" Mina yelled at the boy, and it made everyone stop. It was what she needed to hear. Someone to say it for it to be true. His eyes widened more as he looked at the girls glazed eyes, finally drifting down and focusing to meet his. His grip loosened while everyone else let him go, in shock themselves.
"I.." Her lip quivered as she tried to form words. She clenched her fists as she looked down, the phone in her hand starting to break. "I need t-.. I need to be alone."
"Kai.." She heard Toru's voice, her hand resting on her shoulder. "You shouldn't go through this by yourself.."
"Hagakure's right. We're you're friends. We're here for you." Jirou joined in. Bakugo still hadn't completely let her go, his teeth clenched as he searched her face.
"We're not fucking stupid, Red. Get your head out of your ass and look around you. You got a fuckin support system of a bunch of extras lookin out for you." Tears continued to fall down her face and she clenched her teeth. Only when her eyes grew black and red did he let get go, frowning as he stared at her.
"Please, Katsuki. I need to be alone." She didn't look at anyone else, but they could see it. The faint glowing.
"Tch.. fine. But a few of us will be right outside that door so you better come to us when you need us!" He stood, crossing his arms as he looked at the girl. He could see the phone slowly crumbling around the sides, him sighing as he snatched the phone. "Don't kill your phone. We need to be able to reach you somehow. I'm putting it here," He set it down on one of the tables before starting to back out of the room. "You heard her. She wants to be alone, he grabbed two of the boys and took them from the room, setting them by the door. "Make sure she doesn't do anything stupid." Denki and Eijiro nodded, exchanging worried glances with each other.
Her other classmates left the room, talking amongst themselves about the girl. The girls hung back, Jirou having not let go of her hand yet. "Are you sure, you want us to go, ribbit?"
"Y-yeah.. I just need to process it. I'll.. I'll be okay. Promise." She slowly lifted her head up to give a small smile but they could see it was forced. They were hesitant but they eventually let her go, leaving and telling the boys to message them when and if something went wrong.
Midoriya's match against Todoroki was first. She heard Mic. She wondered how he was holding up. She missed him. This ponytail was going to drive her insane. Pressure. There's too much pressure. So, she took it down. Better. She sighed, closing her eyes as she leaned against the couch, memories flooding her brain. She missed her dad. Why did he have to leave her again? Everyone leaves eventually, right? She's going to be left all alone again. Friends. Midoriya was her friend. But he has new ones. So does she. But would they stay? Will they still love her when they find out about her? Midoriya accepted her but Bakugo stayed. He helped her. But what about everyone else?
The girl had long stopped crying, dissociating from the real world until her name was called for the next match. She was facing Tokoyami. Pulling her hair back, she pulled herself to her feet, wiping at her face as she felt as if her body was numb.
'Make your dad proud, Kai.'
She shuffled across the floor and opened the door to two very worried boys, who were watching her every move. She forced herself to walk to the arena, feeling the anger slowly build up inside her. Anger at her dad for leaving her. Anger at her mom for practically saying that she could just give up. Anger at herself for thinking she was worth anything to anyone. It has always been her. So, do it for yourself if not for anyone else.
"-yami! Versus! Kaida Hiyama!" She found herself on her side of the ring, looking at the bird boy on the other side. She turned her head up just a little bit to see her class, all leaning forward and watching her.
"Begin!"
Both opponents wasted no time with coming after each other, but she could tell that Tokoyami was a little hesitant. But she couldn't be. She couldn't let her sadness stop her from moving forward. This time there were four tails protruding from her back. She shot two out to block herself against Dark Shadow while she ducked underneath it to get into close range with the other. He relied too much on Dark Shadow as a long range fighter instead of learning to get up close and personal in case the long range didn't work. Bakugo taught her that.
She sent the other two tails out to grab at him, feinting grabbing his arms with the tails before sweeping under him to knock him down. Sure, he fell, but she still had Dark Shadow to worry about. She hissed at the small pinch from her back. A quick glance told her he had bit off one of the tails, it dissolving and leaving her with three. She growled as she stared the shadow down, flipping out of the way but luckily landing a kick as she did.
Back onto her feet, she rushed them again as Tokoyami stood, stepping back. She just needed to get him to step out of bounds. She should've ate something before this, not as fast as she wanted to be, but fast enough. She didn't need to eat that much but her body was so used to it by now that her energy relied on eating every four hours now, except for when she was sleeping, to keep her strength, speed, and stamina up.
"Dammit.." Kaida analyzed the area just enough before Dark Shadow came at her, her quickly rolling out of the way. Instead of using the tails as both offense and defense, she used them to defend off Dark Shadow while getting closer to the boy. He didn't even realize where he was at. She smirked to herself, getting close enough for him to take one big step back to dodge the girls right hook, only for her to stop the fight before she got to him.
"Tokoyami is out of bounds! Hiyama is the winner!" The boy had wide eyes as he stared at her, blinking as she walked away with a small smile. It soon faded the moment she was out of the arena, making her way back to towards the changing rooms for the moment. She really needed to eat something.
She dug through her locker, confused about where her food supply could be. It was here before the finals, why wasn't it here now? 'Don't tell me.. I finished up the package I took with already..!?'
Kaida sighed in defeat as she gave up looking, twisting her pony tail around her fingers as she left the room to go back to the waiting room she was in before. She wasn't going to last in the next round, she was going to completely fail. And it was either going to be against Katsuki or Todoroki. She sighed. Both of them were so fast and she wasn't up to par now. She buried her face in her hands. At least now she knew how much food she'd probably need to carry with her on the field.
If she even got that far.
"Kai..?" There was a soft knock at the door when she heard her name, making her look up with wide eyes. The green eyed boy had a worry-filled expression on his face as he started to step closer, shutting the door.
"Izuku.. hey. What are you doing here? You should be healing by the looks of that injury." She sat up as he came to sit by her, holding his arm.
"I.. heard what happened. I'm so sorry.." She looked away before dropping her head into his shoulder. She missed her best friend.
"Yeah.. it happens.." That made him frown, laying his head on top of hers.
"That doesn't mean it should have. He didn't deserve it. And you don't deserve it either.. i-if you need to cry, I'm here for you." As encouraging as his words were, she laughed dryly.
"I've been crying, Izu. I.. I don't know what to do. I just feel lost, and betrayed. I mean. My dad is gone again, my mom basically told me to give up.. and my best friend has new friends and we hardly talk anymore. I really miss him, Izu."
"Kai.. you know I'm here for you. You can call me, text me, you can talk to me whenever."
"I know, but we've been together since middle school and we finally had the chance to make friends and be ourselves. I didn't want to take that away from you. Plus, you've been training with All Might! That's your dream!" He just laughed as he looked ahead, lost in his thoughts.
"That's true.. but you could never take it away from me, Kai. You're still my friend. And I'm still here for you. So, if you want to talk about anything from what's going on, to your next match, or just anything in general, I'm here for you." The girl gently hugged him, nearly on the brink of crying again as she sniffled, making him panic a little.
"Ah! I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make you cry! I was just trying to help!" She shook her head, keeping it where it was planted.
"No, no! It's okay! It's good! You're just- you're a really good friend!" They laughed together as they say there the rest of the time in silence, Izuku eventually turning on the tournament so they could watch it together. She was definitely feeling a little better, mentally, now that she had Midoriya back by her side. This round came to an end with Katsuki winning against Kirishima.
"He never goes easy, does he?" It was more so a rhetorical question than an actual one. It made her friend chuckle. They continued watching as the bracket for the next round was revealed, her breath hitching. "Oh no.. I might as well forfeit now."
"What- why?" He started before looking at the screen, his expression faltering. "Oh.." She sat up and twisted her ponytail nervously.
"He's going to kill me."
"Kacchan won't kill you!"
"Izu, I ran out of the food I brought with to keep my strength up. He's going to kill me because I'm not up to full strength." His face paled at her words, anxiously staring at her.
"B-but I thought you could last a while without food..?"
"I can! But I've been using up so much of my stamina and strength that i have to eat more often. If I wasn't fighting and training constantly, I could live on one body for two months. But with the amount of training I do, that's basically cut in half, twice."
"O-oh."
"He's going to absolutely destroy me." They both sat in silence, trying to find a solution for the girl. Izuku sat there, tapping his fingers as he glanced between the floor and his friend. Kaida began to notice it. "Spit it out, what are you going to suggest?" He laughed nervously, clearing his throat.
"Well.. wh-what if.. um.. how much do you need? And I can give it to you before.. your fight?" She stared at him, him not meeting her wide eyes in fear.
"Are you suggesting I feed on you to raise my strength?"
"Hah.. yes?"
"Izuku! There are so many things I could say to try to make you understand why that's a bad idea. One. It will hurt. A lot. Two. If I do, and I lose, it'll be in vain. Three. I would never feed from a living body. I told you, I get my supply from the government-!"
"I know that!" She faltered, staring at him. "I know it will hurt, but it can't possibly hurt as bad as having all of your limbs broken at once. And so what if you lose? At least you were all powered up!" She started to open her mouth to retaliate but he just shook his head. "Kai, I get that it's a scary thought but what happens if you're out in the field and not strong enough. Another pro hero offers to help you like I am. Wouldn't you take it so you could defeat a villain?"
"I.."
"And you even told me that you get stronger from fresher flesh instead of packaged meat sent from who knows where! I haven't been that good of a friend to you, so let me do this, okay? Todoroki and Iida's match will be over soon, yours is next. You need to be ready!" She sighed, burying her face in her hands, grumbling about him being persistent. "But you better hurry.. Todoroki looks like he's going to win."
"..Fine.. just. It'll have to be somewhere no one will see it." He nodded, humming for a second as he used his uninjured hand to lift up the sleeve of the injured arm.
"Will this do?" She nodded and switched sides with him, staring at the spot. She was hesitating and he knew why. "Hey.. it's not gonna kill me. It's okay."
"O..okay." It took her another minute or so, and he was patient, the both of them listening to the called match between their classmates. "Ahh.. are you sure-"
"Kaida, it's okay!"
"Okay, okay! I'm sorry!" She took a deep breath and leaned down, biting into the exposed bicep. It was high enough for him to be able to hide it from everyone, but still meaty enough for her to get enough power. She heard him hiss in pain, him gripping tight onto his shoulder. She felt like garbage taking a bite out of her friend like this, but he offered.. so she shouldn't feel too bad. Right? He cleared his throat as she pulled back, his hand immediately clamping down on it to try and stop any blood from escaping.
"I-I'm sorry! I told you it would hurt! Are you okay? Was it too deep? Let me get you a bandage-!" Kaida jumped up, quickly wiping her face of any blood.
"K-Kai! It's okay! Really! Don't worry about me, you have a match in just a few minutes. I'll get this taken care of, go give it your all and show Kacchan who's boss!" She laughed and nodded, slowly backing to the door while he smiled at her. "You can do it! Good luck, Kai!"
"Thank you, Izu!"

To Have A Villain’s Quirk
EIGHTEEN: CRASHING DOWN
Tumblr media
Song: All On Fire - Coheed and Cambria
When she joined the girls again, they had asked about her jacket. Kaida didn't want to rat Bakugo out for having feelings, knowing how her classmates could get, and just said she got a little cold. Even though they were told to have fun, she didn't know how everyone else felt, but she couldn't relax that much knowing she was going to be in the tournament. Kaida knew she wouldn't really have to come up with a strategy for fighting Ashido, as mean as that sounds, so, she tried to just calm her nerves by being around the girls. They never failed to make her feel safe. Sure, she wanted to be ready for anything. And before she knew it, the finals began.
Kaida sat in the locker room, having just changed out of the cheerleader uniform into her gym clothes, letting her hair down to release some pressure. She could already hear Present Mic getting everyone pumped up, but she couldn't stop her body from trembling with nervousness. She wasn't first up, and that was okay, she had more time to calm down. She jumped when she heard her phone ringing from her locker, only noticing it was hers from the ringtone for her dad. She pushed herself up, slowly taking it from the little cubby, looking at the picture that popped up. It comforted her. After another ring, she answered it.
"Hey dad-"
"Kaida, don't ever wear something like that again, especially on TV. I can't have you dressing like that, you're still supposed to be my little girl. The one that was too afraid to even dress up in Halloween costumes because they were too scary.. You're growing up too fast-!" She could hear her father practically sobbing before there was a loud smack on the other end.
"Oh, sweetie, don't mind your father. You know how he gets." Her mothers voice came through, making her laugh. "You looked so confident out there.. It's a good change. But.. Don't dress like that too much, okay? You're still only fifteen.."
"For only a few more months."
"I know, I know. Anyways, that's not why we were calling. We just wanted to tell you how proud we are of you.. You're doing so well, but please be careful.. I know you want to be a hero but if something happens and you don't feel right there anymore, don't worry if you need to transfer to a normal school. You'll still be our hero." Don't worry if she has to transfer? If something happens? Did her mother really not have that much faith in her? There was a pause, as if her mother was waiting for her to say something, when actuality it was Takeshi staring Kaori down for saying such a thing. The woman sighed before continuing. "We just.. love you so much. We don't want you to get hurt."
"...Yeah, I get it.. I gotta go. My friends match is up. I'll talk to you later." Before Kaori could say another word, Kaida had hung up, throwing the phone back into her locker and dragging herself to the stadiums. Well, she felt like absolute shit.
*
"Why. The Hell. Would you say that to her?" Takeshi stared at his wife, teeth clenched after hearing the words she pointed at their daughter. She lowered the phone from her ear, gently setting it on the counter while keeping her back turned to the other.
"Those schools are dangerous, the sports festival is dangerous. We already almost lost her once, I don't think my heart would be able to take it if something else happened to her."
"I thought you were proud that she got into that school?"
"I am. I'd just wish she had gone to a normal school. Her choice is her own. All I'm saying is that, instead of getting wrapped up in something too big for her, for any of us, that maybe she should really take a moment to wonder if she's already where she belongs. With us."
"Kaori, I understand you're trying to protect her, but she needs to be able to do things on her own. You won't always be there." Her hand gripped the counter, the marble softly screeching beneath her fingers before she whipped herself around with fiery eyes.
"I'm the one who's been here. You're the one who's been off gallivanting over in the states. You haven't been here for her at all. You don't know what she has been doing, going through to get to where she's trying to be. Where were you for the past few birthdays? The days she stayed holed up in her room because of kids at her school? When she finally gained a friend in Izuku, and the happiness that she had? When she tried to fight a villain off with him to save another boy in her class, who was actually Bakugo, believe it or not." She took a few steps forward, staring the male ghoul down as she a tail raised from her back, snaking around her waist to point at him. "I don't want to hear you saying that I won't be here for her when you can't even say you have been."
"From what I've heard, she didn't talk to you, and you didn't really talk to her, until that villain incident. And don't hold me being overseas against me. It was for my job. I've been the one earning money for this family and send it over to you so you can take care of yourself and Kaida. I've done all of that for my family. You're only just now acting like a mother. After what happened when she was five, you distanced yourself. As if you couldn't bear to be around her. You called her a monster for fuck's sake! Your own daughter!" Kaori's eyes widened as he rose his voice at her, dark veins slithering from his eyes and down his cheeks with each word. "So, the one time she calls you mom, and acknowledges you, you can just suddenly forget everything? I want to know what happened to the woman I married. Who was sweet, and loving. I want her back. Not this impostor." All was quiet as the black haired woman lowered her head.
"..You know. I've had just about enough of you." The front door opened, catching her husbands attention but just long enough for her do what she needed to do.
*
Kaida shuffled through the halls to catch the tail end of Midoriya's fight, stopping just before 1-A's seating area. She leaned against the wall and watched the fight end with the green haired boy sending Shinso out of bounds. She saw that Midoriya was already hurt, making her shake her head at his recklessness. She wanted to sit there with her friends, to cheer the boy on.. but she just didn't feel up to it. Todoroki and Sero's match was up next. She didn't talk to them much so maybe she could just sit by herself for a while until her match.
She found one of the empty waiting rooms, gently closing the door behind her as she went to sit down at one of the tables. Letting down her hair, she ran a hand through it as she looked up at the ceiling. She could feel her eyes start burning but she pushed the tears back, taking a shaky breath. She couldn't do this right now, she had a match she had to win. She needed to get herself out of her head but as the minutes passed, she just spiraled deeper down in her thoughts. Before she knew it, her face and the table in front of her were covered in years, her hand over her mouth to muffle any sounds that wanted to escape.
Just when she was finally happy with herself, her life.. something always went wrong. She got too comfortable, that's what always happened. She didn't actually know how much time passed until they announced the ending of Iida's match against the support girl. She wiped her face as best as she could, feeling like her body was numb. Kaida shuffled her way towards the arena, wiping at her face once again as Mic's face rang through the stadium. "Get ready for this next match between best friends! Both students from Class 1-A! The acidic, pink-skinned creature, Mina Ashido! Versus! The virago herself! Kaida Hiyama!"
Walking out into the open area, she almost hissed at the bright sunlight, eyes quickly adjusting as she saw her friend on the other side of the ring. She could see all of the eyes, hear all of the loud noises, the cheering, the screaming. The cameras were pointed at the both of them, and she just wanted to run away. She didn't want to be here. She wanted to be at home, in bed. Where she was safe. She didn't want to fight. She just wanted to cry. No.. she didn't want to feel anything. She could forfeit.. yeah. That sounded like a good idea-
"Kaida! Don't go easy on me, okay?" Mina called to her, once they were both on the ring and inside the bounds. She met her eyes across the ring before looking away, the others smile fading.
* Up in the stands, their whole class sat, waiting for the match to start as Mic announced their classmates. Some of them were watching the cameras, others were watching the two down below, others were talking. Katsuki's eyes narrowed as he looked at his friends face. It looked like he wasn't the only one who noticed.
"Hey.. is it just me or is there something wrong with Hiyama?" Jirou asked, Kaminari and Kirishima agreeing while Bakugo clenched his teeth. What was wrong with that idiot? Midoriya watched with his friends, frowning as he leaned forward, a worried expression on his face.
* As their battle began, Mina immediately rushed her, Kaida was still a little distracted and too slow to dodge the girl, being knocked back. Their class, and even Mina gasped. She hadn't expected to actually land a hit. Kaida was usually so quick, so strong, that not a lot could but her. Normally, Bakugo was one of the only ones who could land a hit. That was when everyone knew something was really off with her. The maroonette carefully pulled herself to her feet, a little dazed but still conscious. Mina just stood there, confused and worried.
"Ashido managed to get a kick in, but it looks like Hiyama didn't even bother to block it, let alone move! What's going on?!" Mic yelled, catching Kaida's attention for a moment before Mina hesitantly came at her again. This time, Kaida tried to dodge but got hit again. She stumbled back but was caught, just before she was out of bounds. "What's this?! Ashido stopped Hiyama from going out of bounds!"
"Kai.. what are you doing?" The girl in question turned her head away, bangs covering her eyes. Mina's expression grew more upset, twisting her hand in the girls jacket. "You're not supposed to lose. I don't know what's gotten into you but you're the one who has to get further than this." No response came from the girl and Mina huffed, frustrated.
SLAP!!
A hush fell over the crowd as everyone was locked intensely on the two girls. Kaida's eyes widened as she slowly met the others, raising a hand to her cheek. "You promised me you wouldn't hold back, what happened to throwing me out of bounds, huh? I'm not just gonna walk out, Kai. This is as far as I go, so snap out of it and fight me." She paused for a moment, giving a small smile. "..And we can talk about what's bothering you later. Okay?"
She stared at the pinkette before nodding, the corners of her lips twitching up a bit. "Okay.." Her voice sounded so small, and it broke Mina's heart to hear it like that. But the answer was enough for her to drop the girls jacket and take a few steps back.
"Okay, let's go!" Mina grinned as Kaida regained her composure, taking a deep breath as she put one foot behind her.
"Looks like Ashido seemed to pull Hiyama out of whatever trance she was in and they're now ready to fight for real!"
The crowd began cheering the moment Kaida's Rinkaku was released, three tails flaring up behind her. Mina smirked and acid was flung towards her opponent, Kaida dodging a little quicker this time as the acid covered the area in front of her. She tried to get behind the other to take her out but Mina was faster, sliding around the girl with a grin. Kaida felt some acid fall on one of the tails, starting to burn it away. She hissed and jumped after the other, taking one tail to wrap around her waist. Mina, knowing she was caught, just smiled with a nod and Kaida nodded back, tossing her out of bounds.
"Ashido is out of bounds! Hiyama wins!" As soon as Midnight called it, Kaida rose her head to look at the sky before jogging after the pinkette, who was slowly pulling herself to her feet. Kaida helped her stand and Mina gave her a one shoulder hug.
"Congrats, Kai! You deserved it!" She didn't say anything but set her head on her shoulder as they both walked out. As they announced the next match between Tokoyami and Yaoyorozu, the two girls found their way to an empty waiting room. Just before they entered the room, footstep came jogging behind them.
"Hey, are you guys okay?" Kaida and Mina turned to look at their violet haired friend, the girl panting a little as she caught up with them. She was mostly looking at Kaida, her taking a step forward. "Are you okay, Hiyama?" The girl was silent as the other two looked at her and she felt her eyes starting to prick.
"Kaida..?"
"C-can we sit down.. please? I-I just need to grab my phone first." They quickly nodded and let her grab her things from the changing room before leading her into a vacant waiting room, the trio taking a seat on one of the couches. Jirou took one of her hands while Mina kept her arm around her shoulders.
"Okay, now what's going on?"
*
"Kaida.. I know that you're busy with the tournament but.. your father.." There were sobs from the other side of the phone. "There was an accident.. Kaida, I'm so sorry.. Please call me when you can, okay? If you go through with the rest of the tournament, just know that you'll be making your father so proud. I..I love you so much Kai, and I know he loved you so much. You were his Chimera, after all."
The message ended and hot tears cascaded down the maroonette's face, dropping her phone into her lap. She didn't hear the door open or her two friends talk to the group that entered the room. She couldn't see the look on Bakugo's face as he knelt in front of her, yelling at and shaking the girl. But nothing could get through to her.
Her whole world was crashing down.

To Have A Villain’s Quirk
SEVENTEEN: JEALOUS
Tumblr media
Song: White Dress - Parachute
"After fifteen minutes to pick teammates and talk strategy, twelve cavalry teams are preparing to go head-to-head!" Mic's voice rang through the stadium as the timer went off, catching Kaida's attention as her team prepared, hoisting up Shinso to be their rider. In that time, Kaida still couldn't figure out what was going with with Ojiro and the student from 1-B, but as he commanded them, it clicked. He was using his quirk. But why wouldn't he use it on her? Maybe there was a limit? She didn't even know what kind of quirk it was but it was some type of mind control. "Come on, everyone get your hands in the air! It's time for an arena-thumping UA battle royale! Let me hear ya scream!"
As the teams gathered around the battle field, Kaida carefully gripped the boys leg, smirking. In the extra time they had left, it gave Kaida the chance to fuel back up, her power back to one hundred percent. Sure, she was still worn out from the previous round, but the amount of flesh she ingested put her back on top to be able to deal with her classmates. Bakugo and Midoriya would be the easiest ones to deal with, seeing as she has somewhat trained with both of them, and she at least knows the fighting styles of the rest of her class.
"Okay, all you first years! I hope you're happy with your chosen teams! Let's get this party started! One final countdown before the game starts!" As Mic started the countdown from three, she felt a small tap to her head, her looking up at Hitoshi.
"Defense." It was just one word but she knew what he wanted.
"Begin!" Quirk activated, four tails swirled around her team to protect them, two other tails watching their backs. Just like every other team, they were after Midoriya, picking up the pace until they took off into the air thanks to the support course's equipment. With every team distracted, Kaida took the opportunity to try to steal headbands along the way, using her extended arms to her advantage. Her team was mostly passing the others by, taking headbands when they could. They weren't too focused on getting to Midoriya now like some of the others were. It was only the halfway point, and their best bet was to really wait it out, with how many points they had at the moment. They should be okay. With the other teams getting frozen over, Shinso was happy to take some of their headbands away.
"Only one minute left! Todoroki has cornered the ten-million-point team and is poised to seize the ultimate prize! At least, that's what I would have predicted five minutes ago!" Todoroki cornered Midoriya's team? There's no way he'd be beaten in strategy by them.. Izuku's too smart for his own good sometimes. There's just no way.. "Unbelievably, Team Midoriya's been able to keep away from the ice master for the last half of the game!"
"Wo-ho-ho! What just happened?! That was one big blur!" Her team came to a stop, looking in the direction of the ice walls. "Holy smokes, folks! Why didn't he show that super speed in the preliminaries?" That had to be talking about Iida? She was dying to know what happened, as time was almost up. "Insanity! This entire game was just turned completely on its head! Todoroki's team has the ten million points, and Midoriya's team is suddenly left with nothing at all!"
"What..?" A couple of tails disappeared from shock, Shinso quickly tapping her head again.
"Focus."
"Ah, right." But she didn't need to.
"Time's up! And with that, the second round is officially over! Now, let's take a look at who our top four teams are!" She let the boy down, stepping aside as they all stared up at the leader board, fingers crossed. "In first place, Team Todoroki! In second place, Team Bakugo! In third place is Tetsute- Wait, what?" Some of the cameras were met with two very confused boys, and the smirks of Kaida and Hitoshi. "It's Team Shinso? When did they come back from the dead?"
"Thanks for all your help." The boy said, walking away from the group while Kaida crossed her arms, turning to look at Ojiro. He was staring, terrified, after the other.
"And in fourth place is Team Midoriya!" So, he did advance! She grinned up at the cameras, seeing the boy in question crying a fountain. "These four valiant teams will advance on to the final round! Now, let's take an hour lunch break before we start the afternoon festivities! See ya soon!"
"Uh, hey.. Hiyama..?"
"Hm?" She turned her gaze to her blond teammate, tilting her head in question. "Mashi, are you okay?"
"What.. happened?" It was almost as if he was scared.
"We, our team made it to the finals. Do you not remember?"
"I.." He glanced away from her, her following his eyes after Shinso. "I just remember him asking me to join.. then nothing." She looked between the two before looking down.
"Hm..."
*
"Hi-To-Shi~!" The boy in question heard footsteps pounding behind him, getting closer down the outside corridor. He shuffled to a stop as he turned, only to be greeted with the female he had teamed up with during the cavalry battle, her waving away and catching up with him. "Hey!"
"Ya know it's rude to use first names with people you don't know well?" She only tilted her head, coming to a stop just a few feet away from him.
"Really? But, I thought you called your friends by their first names?"
"I don't recall us being friends." She had a warped concept of friendship, seeing as she called most of her classmates by their first names, and they never once complained, so she figured that made them friends. And that Hitoshi didn't stop her when she gave him a nickname.
"Oh. Hm.." She glanced away for a moment, a small frown coming to her face. "Your quirk.. it's some kind of mind control, isn't it? That's how you got Ojiro and the boy from 1-B on your team."
"You put that together from very little evidence?" He had a brow raised in question, a small smirk trying to form. She just shrugged.
"It's a gift. Anyways.." She looked away, watching a few small rodents run up and down the trees. "How come you didn't use it on me? Wouldn't that have benefited you more?"
"Did you want me to?" She snapped her gaze back to him, shaking her head quickly and taking a step forward.
"No, that's not wh-!" What was happening? She couldn't move, or say anything.
"Because I didn't need to tell you what to do, you already knew. But now, go away." She felt her body, turning around to head back to where she came from.
'No, no, no! Stop! What are you doing?! I wasn't finished talking!' She tried to yell out but she didn't make a sound as she disappeared back into the building. Once around the corner, she felt his quirk stop working, her being able to move freely. She gasped and ran back to where they were talking, only for him to be gone. "Dammit!"
She wandered around the grounds, weaving through the crowds and looking at all of the booths and festivities they had set up. It was pretty amazing. She had never really gone to a festival, let alone a school festival. So, walking around, she distracted herself with the chatter and the laughter. It was so cheery, light hearted. Though it was a happy atmosphere, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being followed. There were so many people, it had to be her imagination. Right?
"Excuse me!" Kaida jumped as a hand clamped around her arm, head swiveling around to meet wide golden eyes. "Hi! You're one of the first years that are moving onto the finals round, aren't you?"
"Ah.. yeah, I am!" She'll admit, Kaida was a little freaked out. A girl comes out of no where and won't get out of her personal space, almost fawning over her. She guessed that her expression was enough for the girl to let go, giggling a little.
"I'm sorry, am i making you uncomfortable? My bad~! I'm just a big fan! Your quirk is so cool! And you're really pretty, you remind me of someone. What was your name again?" The blonde bounced a little, tilting her head with a toothy smile.
"Oh, I'm Kaida. Hiyama-"
"Hiyama. Hiyama. Oh! Like Kaori Hiyama! That's who you look like!"
"That's my mom, you know my mom?" She was a little shocked, she had never heard anything from her mom about any kids she might've known. Kaori was mostly a stay at home mom, but normally went out every other day to do shopping or the like. Her side of the family was never really in town, and she never knew her dad's family.
"That's your mom?! I see her in town all the time! She's super nice and always gives me snacks if we run into each other!"
"Ha.. yeah, that kinda sounds like her." She scratched the back of her neck, slipping a hand into her pocket. The pretty girl in front of her grinned, nodding away as she clapped her hands.
"We should definitely hang out sometime, I think we could be really great friends!" She looked behind her before grabbing Kaida's hands in hers. "I gotta go but hopefully we'll see each other again! Bye-bye lil' sis!"
"Wait but I don't even know.. your.. name.." Kaida called out to the girl but she had already disappeared into the crowd. She sighed, playing with her hair as she turned to go back to the stadium. The lunch hour was almost up, and she didn't know what else to do. What could she do besides wait? She could always find Shinso, she wasn't done talking with him. Before she could do that though, she could here Present Mic's voice all the way from where she was, saying how it was almost time for the last round. Kaida sighed once again, quickly finding her way back to the stadium. Only to be met with an astonishing sight that made her cover the giggles erupting from her.
"Wh-what are you guys wearing?" The girls from 1-A turned and looked at her, completely embarrassed. Yaoyorozu whined, covering her face.
"It was the stupid pervert's little scheme.. we all fell for it.." Kaida gently patted the taller girl's shoulder, walking with them over to the tournament board to determine who they'd be fighting.
"Don't worry Momo, we'll get him back. I promise." That seemed to reassure the team of girls, most of them glaring at the little grape boy and his electric side kick. All of the first year students gathered in front of the platform where Midnight stood, watching as she picked up a box and walked to the front. Standing beside Momo and Mina, she heard some of her and Sero's conversation about the finals but mostly ignored everyone.
"Come closer and draw lots to see who you're up against. Then enjoy the pleasure of the recreational games before we start. The sixteen finalists have the option of participating in those activities or sitting out to prepare for battle. I'm sure you all want to conserve your stamina. I'll start with the first place team." She started to walk before Ojiro put his hand up and caught everyone's attention.
"Um. Excuse me. Sorry. But I'm withdrawing." Kaida gasped and she moved around everyone to rest her hand on his arm.
"Mashi.. What are you doing?"
"Ojiro, no way!"
"But this is a rare chance for you to get scouted." Midoriya and Iida chimed in, turning around to face the boy.
"It just wouldn't be right. I barely remember anything from the cavalry battle until the very end of it. I... think it was that guy's Quirk." The maroonette frowned, turning her eyes just a little to the left of them. Shinso. He just turned away. "I know this is a great opportunity. I wish I could take advantage of it, but my conscience won't let me." Midoriya told him to think about, making the tail boy a little defensive, Kaida dropping her hand from his arm. "Everyone gave their all in round two, but I was just someone's puppet. No way. I don't wanna advance if I don't even know how I got here. It wouldn't be fair."
"You're making way too much of this! Just kill it in the finals and prove you should be here." Hagakure's pom poms fluttered about as she waved her arms, Mina joining in to comfort him, but it was all in vain.
"That's not it. I'm talking about my pride here. I refuse to give that up. Also, why are all the girls, except Hiyama, dressed like cheerleaders?" The girls all groaned, asking themselves why he had to throw that in. Kaida looked up in time to see the other boy, that was on the team with her, withdrawing as well.
"This sort of talk is incredibly naive, my boys. That turns me on!" Hiyama shuddered a little. She got that Midnight was an R-rated hero.. but this was a high school game.. "Shoda! Ojiro! You're withdrawn!" Taking a deep breath, she smiled at Mashirao, nodding.
"I'm sorry it came to this. I'll fight for you then. You deserve some wins." He looked down at her, a thankful smile taking over his features as he nodded back.
"Thanks, Hiyama. It means a lot."
"Now, let's see... We'll have to move up two students from the fifth-place cavalry team so we have enough contestants." The 1-B team of girls decided against filling in, since they were frozen the entire time, rather giving the spots over to another team. "And so, Tetsutetsu and Shiozaki have advanced to the finals! Take a look at the bracket, my dears. These are your opponents!" Kaida gasped and looked over to the pinkette who was grinning away at her.
"I can't wait to melt your butt!" She yelled at the maroonette, making her laugh as she cracked her knuckles with a smirk. Her eyes changed, signaling her Quirk activating which made Bakugo snort.
"If you can even touch me, I'll throw you out of bounds without a problem."
"Look, the battle of the Raccoons." The girls growled and turned to the ash blond.
"What did you say, Sparky?!"
"Don't fucking call me that!"
"Okay! Let's press pause for a momentary interlude! Before the battles begin, it's time for some pulse-pounding side games!" Mic quickly interjected, getting everyone excited. Kaida looked at the girls before sighing, catching their attention.
"Hey Momo?.. Wanna.. Wanna make me one of those uniforms?" The group gasped, Jirou shaking her head quickly while Mina and Hagakure grabbed her hands.
"You would really do that?!"
"Well, it's not fair that all of the girls got humiliated but me. So, let me join in in this madness." Her face was already turning red but she just waved it off. It wasn't fair that they all had to deal with this dumb prank. Momo was quick to make the uniform, quickly handing it over while the girls shoved her to the changing rooms. Oh, she was going to regret this. They called out the first game, Scavenger Hunt, her shaking her head as she changed while catching a glimpse of the scar she had gained from the USJ attack. Normally, her wounds would've healed without one but they were usually just paper cuts and the such.
Kaida took a moment to actually take the look in, twirling a little. She couldn't help but feel... giddy, being able to do something almost considered fun. She left the changing room, after folding her clothes neatly, putting them to the side, and walked out to the girls. Mina turned and jumped happily as she saw the girl. "Oh my god, Kai, you look so pretty!"
That exclamation caught everyone else's attention and she could see some students of the other classes, and even her own class, falter and trip up some. It made her giggle while Hagakure handing over an extra pair of pom poms to her. Ochaco, Mina, Kaida, Hagakure, and Tsu started to cheer their class on. She could see the looks on the students faces, Mina pointing it out and convincing Kaida to do something with her and Hagakure.
"Uh.. are you sure this will encourage them..?" The maroonette's face was turning red from the suggestion, Jirou hearing what they were planning and pulling Kaida aside.
"Don't fall for it, it's super embarrassing!"
"But.. it'll help our classmates keep going, right?" The girl sighed, covering her face.
"You're too nice, Kaida.."
"Kai-Kai! Come on! They're coming this way, let's cheer them on!"
"Ah, okay!" She joined the two girls, pulling the poms in front of her chest and looked at the girls to follow their lead. With a big smile, she danced along with the girls, moving her hips the way Mina taught her as they spun around, kicking up and cheering for 1-A. She could see Uraraka hesitantly join the girls, only because she wanted to help cheer, and Tsu was soon behind. It was a little embarrassing but she saw the looks on Denki and Eijiro's faces. It looked like the encouraging was working! When their little dance came to an end, she looked towards one of the entrances, seeing a certain purple haired boy watching. Making eye contact, she grinned wide and waved. She could see a small smirk come to his face as he turned away. That was a good sign! Maybe they'd be friends yet.
* "We didn't even have to convince Hiyama to wear the uniform, she did it all by herself!" Mineta whispered over to Kaminari, a few of the other males joining in with the staring.
"Yeah, but she knows it was your idea. You're gonna die, dude." Sero interjected. The little boy was nearly crying out of happiness.
"This was so worth it!"
* "What the fuck are you wearing, Red?" The girl in question turned to face the blond coming towards her, his natural scowl on his face. A big smile came to her face.
"Oh, Katsu! Hah, well.. Mineta pranked the other girls, and I felt bad that I was the only one that didn't have to deal with it. So, I thought i would join in." He rolled his eyes and threw something towards her, her quickly catching it and looking at the fabric I her hands. Her gym jacket? "Kat-"
"Just put it on." He said, starting to walk away before stopping. "The pervert and a few others are drooling over you, cover yourself up."
"Are you jealous?" She couldn't stop the words coming out of her mouth, but his reaction made her laugh, his cheeks tinted pink.
"I'm not! Fuckin-! Whatever!" He quickly walked off to the waiting rooms, head down as he grumbled to himself. She watched him leave before her eyes traveled to the jacket in her hands, slipping it on and burying her face in her hands. That was.. oddly sweet of him.

To Have A Villain’s Quirk
SIXTEEN: WELCOME TO THE TEAM
Tumblr media
Song: Neon - Jeff Williams
"Begin!" The whole hoard took off, Kaida waiting for the area to clearing a little more. They never said she couldn't use others as stepping stones.
"And we're off to a racing start! How 'bout some color commentary, Mummy Man?" She heard Present Mic say. She stayed in her spot, waiting for the right moment. She didn't hear a response from anyone until he spoke again. "What should we be paying attention to in the early stages of the race?"
"The doorway." Aizawa's muffled voice came through the speakers, the comment turning the camera's attention to the stuffed hallway.
"Hey, hey, what's this? Class 1-A's own Kaida Hiyama is just sitting there? What's she up to?" The man called out, and she could feel the eyes on her. No, just focus. She grinned as she felt the cold air come from the hallway. That's what she was waiting for. "Nope, never mind! There she goes!" Todoroki froze the entire hallway, so smart. But predictable.
Kaida launched herself forward into the iced over area, using her tails and the frozen students as leverage to slide around them. She grinned as she saw the purple haired boy, who was being carried by a couple of others, and wrapped around him specifically to catch his attention. She gave a wink and salute as she propelled herself away from them all, exiting the hallway with a big smile on her face. 'Are you watching mom, dad?'
Her and a couple of the other 1-A students were busting through the front. Her, Kirishima, Yaoyorozu, Bakugo, and even Aoyama. What would you expect from the top first year hero class? Katsuki and Momo called the half and half boy out while Kaida just laughed. Just what she had expected. Luckily, a few others from the class were catching up. She stopped glancing behind her to see Mineta going to try to take down the leading boy, only to be knocked out of the way. She didn't slow down, taking in the sight that was before them. The robots from the exam! Everyone, even Todoroki, had come to a stop, but she wasn't about to stop going. She passed them all up, grinning at the Todoroki as she turned, pushing two tails to the ground and launching herself up into the air.
"And Miss Hiyama takes no time with these villains! Going head on! What a brave soul!" She simply laughed as she twisted around, seeing the first robot heading to attack. One tail swooped out, latching onto its arm and dodging the swipe at her. She swung around the first villain, using the tails to maneuver herself through them, hearing Todoroki's ice freeze the robots.
"Shit!" She shrieked, letting go of the last robot. She landed just a little behind the other. "Nice trick, Todo!" He didn't spare her a glance as they kept running.
    "So, you're still here, huh?"
"It'll take a lot more to take me down."
"That's Todoroki from Class 1-A pulling ahead to an early lead with a devastating display! But it looks like Hiyama is still very close behind! Amazing!  They're the ones we should watch, it almost seems unfair! Thoughts?" Mic's voice took over again, Aizawa answering, almost sounding bored.
"His attack was both offensive and defensive. While Hiyama is solely focusing on propelling herself forward and catching up to Todoroki."
"No wonder he was let in on recommendations! He'd never even fought those Robo Infernos before, but they didn't stand a chance against his chart-topping moves! And it's no wonder she's keeping up, she was ranked second place in the entrance exams, just after Bakugo! Now! For those of you who thought the first obstacle was easy. Let's see how ya feel about the second one. If they take a spill, they're out! If they wanna pass this test, they'll have to get creative. It's 'The Fall'!"
The pair stumbled upon the first obstacle first, and Kaida faltered a little. She was staring into the depths of the earth with this patchy area. She shook her head. She just needed to do what she has been doing. Swing. So, that's what she did, using her tails to swing with the wires, easily keeping a hold. She had started to block Present Mic out as she focused, taking deep breaths as she continued to launch herself through the course. "Looks like Todoroki and Hiyama are still skating and swinging by easily!"
Back to running beside the candy cane haired boy, they both looked behind to see Bakugo. At least he's finally fired up. She was afraid he really wasn't going to bring his all. The boy was already screaming out insults at the two and she giggled a bit. He really needed to chill out. They both came to a stop, panting as they realized what the next obstacle was. "Mines?!" How clever, those in the lead were basically at a disadvantage here. She could use her tails as legs. It would give her more of an advantage over the ground. She could see where they're all buried. She kept herself raised above the mines, almost landing on one as the ticking time bomb himself flew past her. She could see the two of them fighting in front of her, making her grin. "Maybe you forgot, Katsu, but I'm still here, too." She teased, catching the both boys by surprise as she used her tails to wrap around the boys. Both of their eyes widened and they reached behind to blast and freeze her.
"Not so fast, Red!" He yelled, grabbing hold of the appendage, blasting it while Todoroki froze the other one. But two more tentacles were replacing them. She was right between them, face to face with the leaders when a loud explosion was heard behind them, making them stop as the area lit up pink.
"Incredible! What just happened? Whatever the case, Class 1-A's Izuku Midoriya is suddenly in hot pursuit for first place!" This exclamation sent the girl into a fit of laughs, watching the boy come flying out of the smoke, straight for them.
"You sneaky kid!" She yelled, raising her hand to shield her face from the wind.
"Strike that! The lead is his!" Just as the boy flew over them, Kaida launched herself  from the mines that were behind the trio. "And Hiyama isn't gonna let this set back stop her! Stopping the fight for first place with Todoroki and Bakugo, she's in a rush to catch up to Midoriya! And that plot twist! None of them are fighting anymore. They're ALL chasing Midoriya! That's what having a common enemy will do in this competition! This fight is still far from over, though!"
With the three of them back to being neck and neck, Kaida continued to keep launching herself, ignoring the damage it was doing to her tails. This was taking a lot out of her. She didn't know if she was going to make it too much longer. She could see the boy above her, about to land in front of them, she had to think fast. Changing her trajectory, she launched upwards, knowing it would send her back a bit. But if she didn't she'd be in the blast. Just in time, she was out of the way before Midoriya landed on the two boy's shoulders and slammed the metal in front of them. She shook her head at his recklessness, joining them all back on the ground right behind the boy as she tumbled a little. She could run now, she didn't need to worry about dodging. She just needed to stay in place.
"In a stunning move, Midoriya has blasted past his classmates from 1-A! I don't believe it--he cleared that minefield in an instant! Eraser Head, your students are amazing! What the heck are you teaching them?"
"This has nothing to do with me. Each of them is powered by their own drive to succeed."
"There ya have it! Eraser Head is a terrible teacher."
    "I'm what?"
"Who would've imagined at the beginning of this race that the climax would be non-stop mega-mix of surprises?"
Mic's loud voice echoed through the entire area, the sounds mixing in her head with the sounds of her pounding feet and racing heart beat. She could see the light at the end of the hallway, black beginning to form around her vision. No, she couldn't go down just yet, she would be out then. She huffed, blinking slowly while trying to keep her breathing steady.
"The first to make it back into the stadium is the first-place winner! Izuku Midoriya is out champion!" Izu did it.. she was so proud of him. Her quirk deactivated as soon as she was out into the stadium, stumbling as she tried to keep herself upright. Kaida looked around, seeing everyone else come running out of the corridor, realization hitting her. She was fourth place. She was in the top five. She grinned brightly, nearly collapsing as she caught her breath, leaning her hands against her knees.
"The contestants are pouring in one after the other! Let's hear some applause for all our competitors as we prepare the results." Several pairs of feet started to pad over to where the girl was, Kaida sure she was on the brink of getting sick, but she'd pull through.
"Kai~!" Ashido's cheery but out of breath voice woke her from her stupor, the maroonette looking up at the group that approached her.
"Wow, you were what? Fourth place? That's amazing. We're lucky we were in the top forty-two." Jirou said, panting a little as she glanced at the blond beside her, him nodding as he bounded over to Mina and Kaida, leaning against the latter for support.
"How were you able to keep up with all of them.. Is super speed apart of your Quirk?" Kaminari whined, his arm wrapped around her shoulder while Mina leaned against her other side.
"It's no fair, some of us aren't built for that." Kaida giggled a little at the two, doing her best to help support them while trying to support herself.
"The first game for the first-years is finally over, and what a game it was!" Ms. Midnight's voice came through the microphone, drawing everyone's attention. "Now, let's take a quick look at the standings, shall we?" Looking at the screens around the stadium, it started going through the rankings, Kaida seeing her face for the fourth place spot. Poor Aoyama wasn't even in the top forty-two, getting forty-three instead, poor boy. "Only the top forty-two will advance to the next round. But don't be too let down if you didn't make the cut! We've prepared other opportunities for you to shine." She didn't like that look Midnight gave them.. "Now the real fun is about to begin. The chance to fully move yourselves into the limelight! Give it your best!" She cracked the whip as the next game was being picked. "Let's see what we have in store for you next. Will your wildest fantasies come to life? What could it be? The waiting is torture. Prepare yourselves... for this!" A cavalry battle? Dammit, she had never done one of those. How would she even be able to help? She'd need to be apart of a good team..
"Allow me to explain. The participants will form teams of two-to-four people as they see fit. In theory, it's basically the same as a regular playground game. But there is one difference. Each player has been assigned a point value based on the results from the obstacle course." Kaida heard Ochaco and Mina talking about the point system, and it made her think. She was in the top five. She would have one of the highest points, which meant Izuku would have the highest point value. "Now then. The point assignments go up by increments of five, starting from the bottom." The R-rated hero went on to explain the system, before calling out the first place's points. "And the point value assigned to the first place contestant is.. ten million!"
"If you take down his team, you'll win the cavalry game, and take the lead by yourself."
"That's right. It's survival of the fittest, with a chance for those at the bottom to overthrow the top!" Kaida glanced left and right, seeing her point value. A hundred and ninety-five points. Not too shabby, Hiyama. "First years! These are the rules that you'll abide by: The game itself will last fifteen minutes. Individual point values will be added together to reach your team total. Everyone will know how much you're worth thanks to your headbands. Swipe as many headbands as you can to raise your team's score." Kaida raised a fist to her mouth, trying to think as Midnight continued on. If she could get on the right team with the right quirks, they should do just fine. "This is going to be rough. You may use your Quirks as much as you like. But there are still rules! Make a team fall on purpose and I'll slap you with a red card. You'll be disqualified! Now, you've got fifteen minutes to build your teams. I recommend you get started." Everyone began chattering while Kaida was lost in thought. She just needed to be with the right people. But who?
"Red! You're on my team, let's go!" Kaida jerked her head up at the angry blond, who was staring at her expectedly. She saw some other students look her way, one violet eyed boy in particular. She looked back at Katsuki, smiling a little as she waved and turned away.
"Sorry, but I'll have to pass." She could hear him nearly blow up from surprise. She really rejected being on his team? She had someone else in mind. She just needed to get to him.
"Ah, Kaida!" Not again. The girl caught a glimpse at Izuku and Ochaco, waving at her and trying to get her attention. She hesitated for a second, staring at them before looking away and continuing on. 'Sorry, Izu.. you might be my friend, but I want to win just as badly.'
"Hey!" She called out, finally getting close enough to the boy, feeling bad she never did learn his name. The purple haired boy raised a brow at her, turning away from Ojiro and the other male he was in a conversation with. They both actually looked really out of it. "I'm sorry, I never caught your name before. I'm Kaida Hiyama."
"..Hitoshi Shinsou." She watched him shove his hands in his pockets, looking disinterested in the conversation. She needed to sell her reason quick.
"Well, Toshi, I think I'd make a great rear defense. Along with Ojiro. You've seen my quirk, so you know what I'm capable of. Let me join your team." She stared him down a minute, him looking back at her, a small smirk forming on his face.
"You were in fourth place, and you want to join us. Why not that ass you're friends with?" He wouldn't take her over just yet. Maybe she could be useful without him using his quirk.
"Because I want to take him down, too. We're rivals for a reason." He chuckled lightly. A fair answer. So, that meant he didn't need to tell her what to do.
"Okay, sure. Welcome to the team."

To Have A Villain’s Quirk
NINE: LET HIM GO
Tumblr media
Song: One For The Money - Escape The Fate
Tumblr media
The next day was pretty uneventful, at least during the morning. Still sticking to a normal school curriculum, English was first, with normal core classes following behind. Then lunch, which was pretty nice, but, of course, Kaida didn't eat anything that was there. It seemed to confuse her classmates but they didn't give it too much thought. She sat with Kaminari and Kirishima, trying to get to know them better but it was mostly them talking to each other. They both tried to include her in the conversation but she had trouble keeping up. And finally, the time had come.
    UA's Hero Course.
They all sat in their respective spots, the classroom alive with chatter. Kaida had out her notebook, doodling away as she watched the other students talk among themselves. Humming softly to herself, she tilted her head to the side. She was a seat in front of Hagakure, the invisible girl, and right behind her was Bakugo, who looked like he was staring off into space. Midoriya was right behind him. He looked like he was in deep thought, going over his notebook probably. It made her smile. At least they made it past the first day together. Kaida nearly jumped out of her seat as All Might came bursting through the door, hanging onto the door frame and leaning into the room. "I am here!"
"Coming through the door like a hero!" Kaida giggled a bit while everyone else gasped, realizing just who was in front of them. Yes, it was the number one pro hero. She smiled lightly as everyone seemed to be getting excited about how he was a teacher. She watched him march to the front of the room. "Welcome to the most important class at UA High. Think of it as 'Hero-ing 101'. Here, you will learn the basics of being a pro. And what it means to fight in the name of good! Let's get into it! Today's lesson will pull no punches!"
"Fight training!" She could hear the grin in Bakugo's voice without even looking at him. Only to hear Midoriya's worried question. Poor boy.
"But one of the keys of being a hero is... looking good!" He immediately pointed to the side, grinning away as compartments automatically came out of the wall. "These were specifically designed for you based on your Quirk registration forms and the requests you sent in before school started." Even Kaida was excited at this point, knowing exactly what it was. Their hero costumes. She grinned ear to ear as she thought about it. She went into full detail designing the costume. It was simple but it was hers. "Get yourselves suited up, and then meet me at Training Ground Beta!"
"Yes, sir!" Kaida quickly grabbed her suitcase, following the girls to their changing room. The girl was hesitant to open it, noticing how the others were already stripping out of their clothes to put on the costumes. Ochaco tilted her head at the ghoul.
"Is everything okay, Hiyama?" Kaida glanced up at her before nodding, laughing a little. "Are you nervous, too?"
"Uh, yeah. I just hope it looks good on me."
"I don't think that'll be a problem, Hiyama. You're very pretty, I think it'll look fine, however it looks." She turned her head to see Yaoyorozu looking at her with a confident smile. She was already dressed in her costume, causing Hiyama's face to go red.
    'So gorgeous!'
"Right, okay!" She took a deep breath before carefully changing into the suit. A cropped skintight top, a slightly longer cropped jacket, shorts, tights, boots, and gloves. All that was left was the mask she had designed, pulling it around her neck first to button the back, then zipping down the front. She pulled the surgical like bands behind her ears to keep the mask in place, finally fixing it over her nose. The neon lines on the front made it look like teeth, fit for a ghoul. The bolts on the side were added just for some flair.
"Perfect." Kaida looked herself I the mirror, twisting and turning as she fixed her hair up in a ponytail. She was smiling but no one could see it. Hagakure slide beside her, sounding ecstatic about her classmates outfit.
"Whoa! You look cool! That mask is pretty, too!" Yaoyorozu stepped behind her, arms crossed.
"Simple but nice." If only they knew the meaning behind it. The other girls lined up, taking in their costumes as well. They all exchanged the same look of confidence before turning and making their way to the training grounds. Marching onto the scene, Kaida couldn't help but feel empowered, walking with everyone like this. In their hero costumes, no less. They were just one step closer to becoming pros.
"They say that clothes make the pros, young ladies and gentlemen, and behold, you are the proof! Take this to heart. From now on you are all... heroes in training!" All Might's voice rang through the area as they exited the tunnel, coming to a stop as they spread out a little. Kaida stood near the tall dupli-armed boy, Shoji, catching Uraraka just next to her. She noticed, however, that Midoriya wasn't there yet. "This is getting me all revved up. You look so cool! Now. Shall we get started, you buncha newbies?" Kaida grinned, cracking her knuckles at his challenge. She turned her head to look at Midoriya as he entered, Uraraka calling him out. She wanted to go say hello and talk about his outfit, but it looked like gravity girl had it covered. Kaida looked away with a small smile, glancing to the ground. A certain blond looked back at the girls sudden exclamation, catching the look on the ghoul's face.
"Now that you're ready, it's time for combat training." The pro hero started, only for Iida to cut in.
"Sir! This is the fake city from our entrance exam. Does that mean we'll be conducting urban battles again?"
"Not quite. I'm going to move you two steps ahead. Most of the villain fights you see on the news take place outside. However, statistically speaking, run-ins with the most dastardly evildoers take place indoors. Think about it. Backroom deals, home invasions, secret underground lairs. Truly intelligent criminals stay hidden in the shadows. For this training exercise, you'll be split into teams of good guys and bad guys and fight two-on-two indoor battles. I know we have an extra in the class, but don't worry! I came prepared!"
"Isn't this a little advanced?" Kaida looked in front of her, seeing the frog girl. She had forgotten her name, whoops. She did have a valid question though.
"The best training is what you get on the battlefield! But remember, you can't just punch a robot this time. You're dealing with actual people now." Everyone seemed to join in in asking questions, causing Kaida to look back and forth between everyone, noticing how Kaminari had moved more towards the back, standing next to Kirishima now. She was caught staring, Denki turning his head at just the right time to give her a big grin before turning back to their growling teacher. "I wasn't finished talking!"
"Listen up!" A script? "The situation is this: The villains have hidden a nuclear missile somewhere in their hideout. The heroes must try to foil their plans. To do that, the good guys either have to catch the evildoers or recover the weapon. Likewise, the bad guys succeed if they protect their payload or capture the heroes." Kaida tilted her head. It sounded like a video game. "Time's limited, and we'll choose teams by drawing lots. I brought an extra box along for the extra person, too!" Before Iida could really throw a fit, Midoriya brought him back down by explaining the urgency of how teaming up works. It seemed to do the trick as he apologized. Everyone moved forward to draw their lots, Kaida waiting until she was the last one and grabbed out of the extra one, courtesy of All Might.
All teams were formed and All Might stared down at the maroonette, leaning down to get a good look at her paper. "And young Hiyama! Look's like you're on Team E!" Kaida nodded as the pinkette and twinktoes joined her.
"Yay! We got an extra! We totally got this in the bag!" Ashido yelled, sticking her tongue out at everyone else. Some just rolled their eyes, the others just kind of laughed. Kaida smiled a little as she threw an arm over the other's shoulders, pulling her along. She just barely caught that Midoriya was facing Bakugo. She hoped he'd be alright.. She didn't fight the girl as she let her lead her to the monitoring room with everyone else.
Hiyama tried to keep up with Ashido's babbling, just nodding dumbly along, catching bits and pieces as they stood in front of the monitors. As the time started, everyone quieted down, watching carefully. Kaida took off the mask in the meantime, keeping her eyes on the green suited boy on the screen. Her hands flew to her mouth as Bakugo attacked. Everyone was calling out but Kaida's eyes were fixated on the boys. Her eyes widened, watching how Midoriya took Bakugo down. She kept her hands clutched together in front of her chest, brows furrowing. She was so proud of him with how far he's come, but she was terrified. She was pulled from her thoughts as a hand rested on her shoulder. She looked to the side to see Denki, smiling at her.
"Hey, don't worry. He'll be fine." He reassured, dropping his hand as he turned back to the screen. Kaida smiled a little and nodded, continuing to watch the fight. She had pretty much blocked out everything that they were talking about, watching closely. "Whoa, that guy has some major anger issues.. it's kinda scary." She heard from Denki, but she didn't hear anyone else. As Bakugo found Midoriya again, Kaida bit her lip, eyes widening more as she gasped, realizing what was going to happen. She flung herself forward, hands slamming down on the rail beside All Might.
"No! All Might you have to stop him!"
"Young Bakugo! Don't do it! You'll kill him!" He yelled into the mic, Kaida gripping the rail so hard she was sure there had to be a dent in it by now. As the explosion released, Kaida shouted, hand covering her mouth.
"All Might, please tell them to stop! He's going to pulverize him!" Hiyama begged, glancing up at the hero. He looked like he was torn. "All Might!" Everyone else started joining in to shut him down. The fight dragged on and she was finding it hard to watch, flinching as she could see Bakugo yelling away.
"They're gonna kill each other! Sir!" Kirishima yelled, causing Kaida to slam her hand down once again.
"All Might! Shut them down!" She watched the two boys go, ready to destroy each other. She could feel her eyes tearing up. How could Bakugo just do that to him? How could Midoriya keep going? All Might started to tell them to stop before he heard something from them. She didn't know what, but the impatience was gnawing at her. Suddenly, Midoriya punched through the entire ceiling, her gasping as Bakugo blasted at him. It was quiet as the scene died down, everyone staring wide eyed and open mouthed.
"You did it." All Might started. "The hero team... Wins!" A breath, Kaida didn't even know she was holding, came rushing out, feeling a few tears slip down her face as she saw her best friend drop to the ground. She still had a fight she had to do, but all she wanted right now was to rush to him. She couldn't though, and it killed her. She quickly wiped away her tears, starting to feel the rage bubbling up inside her, all of it towards the ash blond bond. She watched her friend get wheeled off the scene by the infirmary robots, just waiting for the other boy to walk in. She could hear people faintly talking, and she could've sworn she heard her name a few times but she was too taken over by her rage. She hadn't even noticed how her eyes changed, glowing their bright red.
"Kai..?" Denki stared at the rage fueled girl, Mina hearing his question and looking to the girl.
"Hey.. is she okay? Hiyama?" She moved to rest her hand on her shoulder, turning to the door as it opened, revealing Bakugo. As he walked in, Kaida heard his name, and the door close behind him, snapping from her thoughts as her rinkaku came loose, immediately pinning him against the wall. It all happened so fast, no one could comprehend what happened until Bakugo started yelling.
"What the fuck, Red?! Let me go, you damn brat!" He growled out, clenching his teeth as her ghoul eyes stared him down.
"What the hell were you thinking?! You could've killed him!" Everyone flinched, Denki trying to pull her back, only for her to quickly shake him off. "Are you so threatened by him that you had to go that far?! Are you really that afraid that someone you've looked down on your whole lives is better than you?!"
"Young Hiyama! Stand down!" She ignored All Might's demand as she took a step closer to him.
"I don't think it's any of your business how I feel, idiot! Now, let go of me before I blast you to hell!" Kaida tightened her grip on his limbs, keeping him from exploding the tentacles.
"I'd like to see you try!"
"Kaida!" She snapped her attention to the three that called out her name. Kaminari, Ashido, and Uraraka stood there, worried expressions across their faces, Ashido walking towards her and resting a calming hand on her arm. "Let him go.."
She glanced between everyone in the room, eyes widening as she realized what she had done. She quickly but carefully put the boy down, the tails dissolving and eyes relaxing. She looked down, ashamed. "I.. A-All Might, may I be excused, please?" The room was quiet before the man cleared his throat.
"Very well." Hiyama nodded and pulled herself away from everyone, pushing past Bakugo as she went. She ran from the training grounds, just barely catching up to the gurney that pulled the green haired boy away. She walked beside him, explaining to Recovery Girl what happened and that she was allowed to stay. She didn't dare leave his side. She promised Mama Midoriya she would take care of him. She couldn't help but think of what happened back in the monitoring room. What was she thinking? She let her feelings get the best of her, she could've seriously hurt someone. She was an idiot.
Back in the monitoring room, all was quiet before All Might ordered the next team to go. Bakugo stood at the back, fists balled as he recounted what happened, ignoring the stares he got from everyone else. Ashido frowned as she crossed her arms, standing between Aoyama and Kaminari. "I hope she's okay.."

To Have A Villain’s Quirk
FOURTEEN: GHOUL
Tumblr media
Song: Secrets - One Republic
"So, you're really okay with this?"
    "If I wasn't, I wouldn't even be here."
    "That's fair.."
Unlocking the front door, Kaida pushed it open to let the boy behind her in first, following him in before closing the door and locking it back. No one was home. She sighed and sent a quick text to both parents, letting them know she had a friend over. Nodding, she glanced up as the boy slipped off his shoes and bag, setting them neatly by the door before walking through the living area curiously. Kaida blinked as she watched him, slipping off her own shoes as she slowly walked behind him. She rocked back on her heels for a moment, ruffling her hair. "Um.. if you need to change at all, the bathroom's down the hall to the left. I'm gonna go get changed real quick." She didn't wait for a response as she quickly made her way up to her room, shutting the door a little too hard. She flinched at the loud bang, internally kicking herself. She smacked her face a couple times, bringing herself back down to earth. She slung her bag onto her bed while she quickly got changed in her normal cropped shirt and athletic tights, fixing her hair up into a tighter bun to keep it out of her face. She stared at herself in the mirror, swallowing thickly as she fixed the bandage around her exposed abdomen. Finally, she bounded down the stairs, seeing Bakugo, already changed and all comfortable on the couch, playing on his phone. He tilted his head back as he head her, raising a brow.
"Took you long enough." She scoffed, walking past him to the back sliding doors.
"That was five minutes at most." Carefully sliding the door open, she looked back at the boy, who seemed fixated on the bandage around her waist. She looked away, covering the bandage with her arm as best as she could. "My eyes are up here, Katsu.." She joked, shooting a playful grin at him as she slipped out to the backyard. She heard him huff behind her, obviously already annoyed with her.
"You fuckin wish, Red.." He mumbled, following her outside as he slipped back on his sneakers. He glanced down at her bare feet with a raised brow. "Not gonna wear shoes?" She just shrugged.
"Don't really like wearing shoes when I'm training. Actually thinking about taking them out of my costume design." She stayed on the opposite side of the yard, facing the boy as she started stretching, Katsuki following suit. "No using Quirks! I need more help with hand to hand. I also don't want my backyard blown to pieces."
"Whatever." He snorted at that comment, while glancing back down to her abdomen. "Y'sure you can train?" She nodded, waving it off.
"Yeah, don't worry about it. Just try not to hit me there and we won't have any issues."
    "You really trying to joke?"
"I thought it was funny." She grinned as she positioned herself, tilting her head at the other. He just rolled his eyes, holding his fists up in front of him. As she suspected, he came at her first, swinging his big right hook. She was lucky she listened to Midoriya about Bakugo's fighting style. Using that to her advantage, she jammed her left forearm into his bicep on his punching arm while stepping forward with her right leg. She could see the shock register on his face, and she was sure she just opened a can of worms she shouldn't have as a grin broke across his face. Kaida went to jump back but he was already taking her down, her back hitting the ground hard. She coughed, eyes wide at the boy who rolled off of her. He chuckled, standing back up to his feet.
"Figured that shitty nerd woulda told you something about my fighting style and what to expect. Guessing I was right." He slouched off to the other side of the yard, waiting for her to get up. "We can call off training if you're too hurt." That mocking grin stayed on his face as he looked at her, and she felt her blood boil. His smirk widened. "Hey, you said no quirks, so put those creepy eyes away." Dammit, he was right. She pushed her quirk down, him nodding in satisfaction as she stood back up, brushing herself off.
"You just got lucky is all."
"Is that right? Let's see about that."
Back to square one, they faced each other. It was obvious Bakugo was waiting for her to strike first this time, so she obliged. He simply dodged her and struck back. It was like he was dancing around her each and every time. Wait. A grin came to her face as she dodged a swing, his brows furrowing in confusion. Dance, Kai. She took a deep breath, raising herself onto the balls of her feet. She couldn't rest on her toes, not wearing the right shoes, or any for the matter. She could spin around him easier, dodge, slide. She never thought about incorporating dance into her fighting style, but this, this was a good plan. She could see the frustration on his face as she continued to literally dance around him, her flexibility providing her more advantage over him. As it went on, they had gotten each other a fair amount, both breathing heavily and ready to attack the other once again. They both went to strike before Kaida felt a sharp pain penetrate her side. She gasped, wincing, as she stumbled, holding her side as she caught herself on one knee.
"Hey.. you okay?" Katsuki came to a stop before he could swing at her, staring down at the girl as he slowly stepped towards her. She huffed, trying to catch her breath as she went to stand up, only stumbling again as she clenched her teeth. She felt herself being carefully pulled to her feet, one arm being pulled around Bakugo's neck, him holding her wrist while his other arm wrapped around her waist. "I think that's enough for one day. Don't push yourself if you can't do it."
Kaida looked at him, surprised, letting him lead her back inside. "Katsu.. What are you doing?"
"What the fuck does it look like I'm doing?" He got them inside, pushing the door closed as the front door opened, causing them both to look up. Kaori walked in with a few bags in hand, looking up at the two with confusion before seeing how Kaida was holding herself.
"Kai, what happened?!" She quickly set the bags down and rushed to the pair, Bakugo continuing to lead her to the couch.
"This idiot thought it was a good idea to train and push herself too hard." He said, Kaori huffing and kneeling beside the girl, removing her hand from her side to look at the wrappings, ripping them to check. Kaida leaned back and let her do what she needed to do, Bakugo watching silently, if not a little uncomfortable.
"What did I say about training? You need to be completely healed first." She said, running her fingers over the ugly pink scar tissue that had formed in place of the hole that was there before. Kaida hissed, leaning away. She heard the older woman sigh, pulling herself up to her feet. "Let me get you some fresh bandages then we'll get you something to eat." She smiled at the boy across from her. "Thank you for helping her, she can be pretty stubborn some times."
"Trust me, I've noticed." He nodded, glancing between the females, stuffing his hands in his pocket as Kaori laughed, excusing herself to go and get the fresh gauze. Kaida looked away before opening her mouth to speak. "Don't."
    "Huh?"
"Don't apologize for being hurt. I said we had to train today, knowing that you weren't ready, and didn't care." He grumbled, and it made Kaida want to laugh. She looked up at him, a small smile coming to her face.
"Is.. this your way of apologizing?"He turned away, loudly exclaiming while he walked to the kitchen area.
"Tch! Just shut up and get better! Idiot." She watched him curiously, seeing how he opened the fridge, looking for something. She saw his face contort in confusion before he pulled away with two bottles of water in his hands. He came back to her, sitting on the arm of the couch while he thrusted one of the bottles into the girl's hands. Kaida smiled softly, looking down at the water she was given, wondering why he looked so confused at looking in the fridge. Usually the only things in there were her mother's food, while in the freezer is where her father and her kept their stash. Maybe it was weird not seeing a completely full fridge? She didn't know.  Kaori came back, smiling at the two. She couldn't help but notice the looks on the twos faces, making her chuckle.
"Alright, dear, lean forward so I can wrap this around you." She said, kneeling back down as Kaida did as she was told, lifting her arms a little so they wouldn't be in the way. The girl glanced over at Katsuki, pink dusting her face.
"Maybe we should try training after I'm healed up. I should be good tomorrow."
"Or wait a few more days to be completely sure." Kaori interjected, tying off the cloth. Standing, the woman tilted her head at the boy, still smiling. "Thank you again, would you like anything? I can whip up something real quick for you, if you'd like. You've both been training so hard, after all." Bakugo looked between the two before standing, shaking his head.
"No thanks, I should probably be gettin' home or my own mom will have my head for not telling her where I was." He said, grabbing his things, slinging his bag over his shoulder. Kaori chuckled and nodded.
"Alright, well, at least, let me walk you out." He gave a curt nod, glancing to the girl on the couch as he walked by.
"See ya later, Red." She smiled, nodding back.
"Bye, Katsu. Thanks for training with me." She sighed, hearing the small 'tch' in return. That boy will never change. Kaori walked behind him down the hallway to the front door, watching him open it.
"Bakugo, isn't it?" She asked, stopping the boy as she looked down. "I just want to thank you for taking the time to train with my girl. I know she doesn't have a lot of friends, except Izuku, and she won't train with him because she's afraid of hurting the poor boy. But with a Quirk like hers, I'm not surprised. She must trust you a great deal to invite you here, she is normally very closed off about people knowing the full extent of her Quirk, so, just.. Thank you for not turning her away." She quickly bowed, standing straight once again with a big smile. "Be safe on your way home."
"Uh.. right. Thanks, Mrs. Hiyama." He nodded, eyebrows furrowed a little as he walked away, hearing the door close behind him. What did her mother mean, full extent of her Quirk? Could that be what that plate in the fridge was for? To feed her quirk? He had so many questions for her but he needed to confirm it, and the only person who would really know would be that damn nerd.
After Bakugo was gone, Kaida got scolded pretty good before getting tons of hugs from her mother, then getting scolded by her dad when he got home. Later on, around dinner time, Kaori pulled out the large plate she had made for the two ghouls, not telling them where she had gotten it but they were thankful, nonetheless. It was good! It made them feel great, being able to eat together like a family. The rest of the night went by just fine, getting the occasional text from the girls group, and hadn't really gotten any from Kirishima or Kaminari yet. It was strange having so many names in her phone just from the first week of school, but she liked it. She liked having friends. So, before bed, she took a shower, singing away to any song that was stuck in her head at that moment. After her shower, she got dressed in her pajama's coming back to her room to see she had two messages from two different people. The first one was Izuku.
'Izu~'   'I'm so sorry Kai! Kaachan came over and wanted to see my hero analysis notebooks...'
Looking over the message again and again, she felt her heart drop. The plate. The plate that was in the fridge was fresh meat. And the blood from it. Her mom must've said something when she walked him out. That's the only reason Bakugo would have suspicions. Right? She was afraid to look at the other message, knowing it was from him. The phone shook in her hand as she finally worked up the courage to look at it.
'Katsu'   'so when were you gonna tell me that you're a cannibal?'
She felt her breath stop. She hated that word. It's not like she had a choice. How was she even supposed to respond to that. But if he read Midoriya's analysis books, then she shouldn't have to. But did he have to use 'cannibal'? Taking another deep breath, she slowly answered back.
'Kai'   'Why does it matter? It's my Quirk. And I know you went to Izuku's, so I know you read what he wrote down about me. Are you scared of me now? Gonna tell everyone what I am?'
She didn't know why she felt so angry now, maybe it was because she was terrified that he was going to tell everyone what she was, and turn them all against her. She didn't want to lose what friendships she had finally made.
'Katsu'   'as if'   'and why the fuck would i tell everyone? i was just confirming my suspicions'   'you should've fuckin said something during the usj attack and we could've helped heal you'
Kaida reread the messages that came through, eyes widening. That's really what her cared about? She couldn't believe her eyes. The local bully was willing to keep these contents a secret.
'Kai'   'I can't believe it.'
'Katsu'   'what?'
'Kai'   'You do care! :D'
'Katsu'   'fuck you'
'Kai'   'lol'   'By the way. My Quirk isn't Cannibal'   'It's Ghoul'
