1.) How many works do you have on ao3?

27 apparently! I should have a 30th birthday party for my account once we reach that point.

2.) What's your ao3 word count?

446,791. Definitely thought I was over 500k by now but that's writer's block for you. I've written half as much this year as I did last year. But if I really apply myself in the next two months...

3.) What fandoms do you write for?

Star Wars only at the moment. I've toyed with branching out but I've decided that any spare inspiration goes to original fiction instead.

4.) What are your top five fics by kudos?

à la carte - I think this is the fic I'm most known for? Inasmuch as I'm known for things anyway. Glad people are still enjoying it!

Aggressive Negotiations - I had no idea this one was second now. Good for it! This is one of my hornier Obi-Wans, which is saying something given how I write the guy.

as holy and enchanted - Only two chapters but it contains as much sex as a much longer work. Efficient!

nothing compares to you - hasn't been updated since February 2022 but I guess some people like seeing Anakin fling himself against the Force like an angry cat trying to break down a door.

5.) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I was good about it for a while because I like talking to people about my fics but then in like December of last year I burned out a little and stopped replying but kept posting fics and then the situation got out of control. I started replying again over the summer and have just decided that everything between like December 2022 and June 2023 exists in a weird little no-reply bubble.

6.) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably my most recent fic, from a certain point of view. It ends okay for Obi-Wan and Anakin at least?

7.) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

The fics that have endings are almost all happy endings 🤔 à la carte, maybe? There are a bunch of non-obikin characters who also have nice things happen to them so maybe it's extra happy.

8.) Do you get hate on fics?

I guess the closest I've gotten are snarky comments about my lack of updates but those people do seem to like the fic. They're just not crazy about the author.

9.) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Yup! It's funny, I described my smut as vanilla but it's all relative isn't it? I think by many standards obikin itself is pretty kinky.

10.) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I do not. The closest is probably as holy and enchanted because I definitely borrowed Indiana Jones vibes for my Anakin, but nothing beyond that.

11.) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware so if so, the thief made a clean getaway!

12.) Have you ever had a fic translated?

A few! Actually the funniest thing I did was immediately paste the text into google translate so I could see what was going on before realizing that, uh, I already know what it says in English...

13.) Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

Nope! I've talked about doing it a few times but I worry that I'd be a nightmare to work with since I'm not great at sticking by a project.

14.) What's your all time favorite ship?

At this point it has to be obikin. I've never maintained interest for this long in any fandom before. It's the combination of interesting and handsome characters with a setting ripe for fix-its. And then it's fun making weird AUs with them too? They're just excellent!

15.) What's a WIP you'd like to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I mean never say never but Murder at Theed Hall is extraordinarily unlikely. I write mystery original fiction (well, write is a strong word recently but like...I have a pile of disjointed paragraphs?) so I just don't feel the drive to resolve the story.

16.) What are your writing strengths?

I keep answering "dialogue" for the various iterations of this question but like, how embarrassing if everyone else thinks my dialogue sucks? I stand by it anyway but the idea weighs on me!

17.) What are your writing weaknesses?

I think my biggest weakness is all the time I spend beating myself up for clumsy phrasing or slow output so my new answer is I have no weaknesses and everything I'm doing is on purpose. Yay me!

18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I've never had a reason to do this. The most I can imagine is a quick "Anakin said something to Artoo in binary" but otherwise I'd probably translate into English. Is that frowned upon???

19.) First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter. I was like 13 and it's exactly what you'd imagine.

20.) Favorite fic you've ever written?

It depends on my mood! In my current mood I'll pick my baseball fic The Bottom of the Ninth because I really wrote 40k about obikin playing baseball. I was my target audience and I had a great time. No regrets!

tagged by @cosmictapestry to attempt self-reflection. i know my ao3 hasn't been updated in a hot second, but there ARE works-in-progress, i just spent the past few months finishing a dissertation. academia got ALL my words for the longest time so we're tiptoeing back into fic. i had to outsource a lot of this to the gf because i am incapable of finding positive things to say about my own writing unless it's a conference presentation (because i'm fucking good at those).

short AF. i ADORE long fics, 10k one-shots, and multi-chapter fics. apparently i am incapable of writing these. it's gonna be under 5k and it's most likely going to be self-contained (unless i'm playing in someone else's sandbox). ya notgirl is a chronic underwriter in all areas of life. at least i stay consistent.

snappy dialogue. this one is courtesy of the gf. i like punchy dialogue and my adolescence spent in writer chat forums means i have an eternal fear of monologues even if i'm good with them in other ppl's work.

background trauma. i don't imprint on characters unless they're Fucked Up, so this is just the natural consequence.

complicated relationships to authority/institutions (this one also courtesy of the gf). sometimes it's god, sometimes it's your boss, sometimes it's the weight of mythos. can you tell i went to grad school.

(at the end of the day, if you send something I'm not comfortable with, I'll let you know, or in extreme cases I just won't respond, so don't stress about it too much!)

Honestly I'm going to be writing either way, and I really just want to get my stories out on the odd chance someone has the same interest. Some of these stories are kinda niche or the reader has traits that I personally have or want for them. If someone enjoys them, great! If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine too! ANNOUNCEMENT

It feels a bit silly to be making an announcement on an account that doesn't even have 50 followers, but here I am anyway. Anyone who has been looking at my account for the past few months might have noticed I haven't posted a new fanfic since October. Not only that, but I have been sharing a lot less about K-pop and a lot about Red, White, and Royal Blue. And no, the announcement is not that this blog will now be a RWRB blog.

This announcement mostly concerns my writing space here on Tumblr and what I think to do with my writing. The main reason why there hasn't been a new chapter for Fine Line is that this year (at the very last minute) I decided to participate in NaNoWriMo. My attention is currently on a Sapphic Novel I want to one day publish. I still intend to go back to Fine Line once November ends, however, it won't be here on Tumblr.

This is where I circle back to the point of this announcement. For a while now, I have been feeling like my fanfics do not align with the audience here. The K-pop fanfic community here is mostly interested in Y/N fanfics, and not only that, but the great majority are also extremely heterosexual. Not like there is nothing wrong with that, I have read many of these and have enjoyed them heavily. It only takes one look at my fanfic recommendation tag to see that. But as a writer who is not only queer but character-driven, those are not the types of stories I want to write. So I have decided to take my stories to another platform where they might have a bigger audience. It should be a surprise to no one that I am talking about AO3. After I finish NaNoWriMo I will be pushing all my attention on moving all my stories here to AO3. All with the exception of How To Love, it will still be taken out of Tumblr, but I have bigger plans for that story outside of both platforms.

I will still be sharing it here whenever I update Fine Line and an upcoming Spin-Off I've been planning.

However, my last announcement is about where this goes after I finish Fine Line and the Spin-Off. I have other ideas for other fanfics but for the past few months, I have become less and less active in the K-pop fandom. Part of it does have to do with my current RWRB hyperfixation, but also just want to focus more on queer media. I don't think I will stop writing fanfics, at least not now, but I am not sure if I will still be writing fanfics about K-pop idols. And who knows, I might not be as involved in the fandom, but still write fanfics for NCT and other groups.

I know not many people will care about this. I am a really tiny blog that most don't even look at. But if you're still here, thanks for reading and caring. I am not leaving Tumblr, and never will. I am one of those stubborn bitches who refuse to let this hell site die.

2018 in fanfic

As the year has officially come to a close, I thought I'd share the goings-on in the fanfic department in the last twelve months because from what I've seeing, it's been grand. It sure felt that way at the time, too.

120 subscribers! I've never expected this and I'm honestly so grateful, as much for that as for the individual story subscriptions. This year's stories make up for quite a big portion of the overall count (about 800 since 2012, so 522 just this year feels amazing to me) and it's just!! wonderful to look at! And the kudos, comments and bookmarks too! The kudos function often goes ignored because a lot of writers see it as a like button, but those daily emails are sometimes the highlight of a bad day and, well. Thank you, everyone, whether we talk on here too or if it's only on AO3, for any and every form of appreciation you've given to a writer. You're a treasure. Same goes for everyone on FFN too - I don't have clear stats for that but the PM function has given an opportunity to many a wonderful conversation and the start of at least a few friendships.

As for the stories who ended up being the big stars of the year, I preset to you my pride and joy:

1. deeper than time (Doctor Who, Doctor/River, WIP). It was posted in November and just hit 3000 hits this morning. I'm in love with writing this one.

Summary: The Doctor ends up stuck on Earth without her TARDIS and companions and is directed to a mysterious detective who specialises in the supernatural. At roughly the same point, River Song meets her second wife for the first time.

2. burning alive (Star Wars, Rey/Ben, one-shot). Got far more popular than expected, likely because of the ship, lbr. Not adding a summary because it's a PWP and therefore slightly out of place on a celebratory post.

3. calling for your head and calling for your name (Game of Thrones, Jon/Daenerys, one-shot). Likely got popular because it's got a puppy. Valid and understandable. A joy to write.

Summary: "Ghost. Jon had mentioned the name before. So this is what a direwolf looks like."

4. black flowers blossom (Game of Thrones, Jon/Daenerys, one-shot). I was in love with writing this fic! A first for this ship and my favourite one for it to this day, probably.

Summary: There's something wrong. Jon isn't sure what it is - not since all that's happened is a short conversation between Bran and Daenerys - but he's determined to find out.

5. let me watch the moon (rise up and turn to silver) (Game of Thrones, Jon/Daenerys, WIP). This one hasn't been updated in a decade, but I swear that it's coming soon. I have so many thoughts about the direction of this story. Role swaps are a goldmine.

Summary: The chances of a Targaryen finding safety in Westeros under King Robert's rule are slim to none; Jon has known that his entire life. The only hope seems to come in the form of the Warden of the North - the man who, as it so happens, is also the guardian of the only living member of his family; the one he's been searching for his entire life.

As a writer, I feel like you'll empathize with going to AO3, finding a delightful (but unfinished) Bellarke story you're totally engaged in, reaching the end of it, and realizing it hasn't been updated in a year and a half!! It's like...WHY??? It was truly the most interesting and dark story I've read, and I'm desperate to know how it ends - and all the comments on it are so positive and likewise desperate to have an ending - but there's been nothing for months. I feel such a sense of loss.

2/2 So this is just a general shoutout to all the writers out there: If the comments tell you you’re awesome, it’s because you are!! Please finish your stories and don’t break our Bellarke hearts with unfinished endings like the show. Please and thank you! Much writing love xoxo

Aw. That’s so sweet. I do empathize with you, as a reader. I’ve read those stories I was dying to get to the end of only to have them be unfinished. It’s frustrating.

As a writer I have a few stories like that which I never finished. Some of them I intended to go back to. Some of them got to be too big and I didn’t feel like I could tell the story. Some of them I just lost my momentum on.

But I’ve actually gone back to finish a last chapter in a couple of my unfinished fics this year, because someone asked me about it, or in one case, because someone asked for it when I opened up writing prompts.

One of my unfinished stories, though, is unfinished because I’m turning it into an original novel, in fact, I’m taking a break from writing it right now. I have 96k words. It’s not bellarke anymore, but you can see the roots. I loved the story, but felt like it was veering to far from the source material and feeling the need to keep in character and tied to The 100 was hobbling my story. So I went full novel.

You know, fan fiction is a risky business. It’s a hobby for everyone and it has to be fit in around their lives and their confidence and their inspiration and their writing process. I’m not really the kind of person who writes for the kudos and comments, but a lot of people are. The reinforcement that they’re doing a good job helps encourage them to keep writing. And knowing that people are reading it and waiting for the next installment is even more of an incentive for me.
