So much to watch, not enough time in the week - What does Fall 2020 look like?
A list of what looks interesting in the next season and silly reasons as to why
Tumblr media
I’m not the sort of person who likes finding out too many (in some cases even a smidgen of) details about anime I’m going to watch, so this will be a spoiler free preview of the season. Here is a list of anime I will try and you can expect to hear about on Kagemajaya.
Click on the show names to be taken to their MAL pages for more detail.
Hype
Taisou Zamurai
A male cast gymnastics anime from MAPPA (the studio of Yuri!!! on Ice.) Enough said.
Watch the trailer here.
Tumblr media
Chuan Shu Zijiu Zhinan
This one’s a bit of a cheat as we’ve already seen 2 episodes of it (3 for those who have VIP accounts on weTV.) However, I was indeed hype for it before it started. Based on a BL novel by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, the author of Mo Dao Zu Shi, this one promises a lot to people who enjoy transmigration, cultivation and a bit of gay. It is also a quite funny isekai parody. The only downside is that it doesn’t share the same visual quality as MDZS, and is entirely 3D. It’s a good thing I’m not much of a stickler for hot visuals.
Watch it here on its official stream.
Tumblr media
Tian Guan Ci Fu
Another donghua based on a BL novel, well-known among the danmei fans also by its English name of Heaven Official’s Blessing. Also written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (boy, are they busy.) And a big plus: it’s not 3D, so really looking forward to watching handsome men cultivate together in pseudo-historic China. Beautiful setting, beautiful boys. Now one can only hope for an interesting plot too and we are set.
Watch the trailer here.
Cautiously Expectant
Tumblr media
Yuukoku no Moriarty
I saw manga adverts for this one all around Akihabara and Ikebukuro last year when I went on a little trip to Japan. The bishie Professor Moriarty was an immediate pull, and as a Holmes fan, I feel attracted to most of its adaptations, despite almost always being let down. The one thing that makes me cautious about this one is that it is published by a shounen magazine that is not GFantasy, so I’m not sure if the bishie designs and the male cast actually mean what I want it to mean. Fingers crossed.
Watch the trailer here.
Giving It a Shot
Inu to Neko Docchi mo Katteru to Mainichi Tanoshii
A cute looking comedy short about a dog and a cat.
Tumblr media
Jujutsu Kaisen
A mostly male cast Shounen Jump affair. Spring 2020’s Kakushigoto also implied that it has a fujoshi fanbase - let’s see what that’s all about.
Maesetsu!
A female cast gag comedy sol created by Lucky Star’s Yoshimizu Kagami. I watched Lucky Star fairly recently and found it quite entertaining with many sweet/funny characters. I suppose we will see if Yoshimizu still has it. Fingers crossed.
Adachi to Shimamura
I try to watch all queer anime as they come, and this comes in from the shoujo ai quota. Looks like a pretty straightforward romance. Hopefully it will have heart.
Kaeru no Pickles: Kimochi no Iro
All I know about this one is that it has a chill looking poster and has a slice of life tag on MAL. I’m not entirely sure whether we’ll get this subbed, but if we do, I’ll give it a shot.
Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko
Fell for the slice of life tag once again. This one is an isekai with a soft looking MC. Not entirely sure it’ll be up my alley, but no harm in trying it, maybe for a pleasant surprise.
Sore dake ga Neck
This one seems to have the cool setting of a convenience store. I did initially think this was going to be a sol as well, but seems like that might not be the case. Either way, cool setting.
Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - Rhyme Anima
Another anime whose source project I saw plastered all around Tokyo. I’m not a huge fan of idol shows but the rapping bit makes me a bit curious.
Noblesse
A manhwa massively popular among female fans which has also received one off adaptations before, it’s finally getting its turn for a full cour among the hype the industry seems to have for Korean webtoons these days (Kami no Tou, God of High School, etc.) I did watch one of the OVA’s years ago, and wasn’t entirely impressed but then again I can’t judge a whole work based on one arc adapted into a single episode. Male cast action stuff. We shall see and judge.
Magatsu Wahrheit: Zuerst
This was chosen entirely on my shallow criteria as usual: visuals with two dudes on them. Now we’ll see whether the German name is a cringe factor or it’s actually interesting.
Sequels
Tumblr media
Osomatsu-san 3rd Season
Osomatsu-san has been a consistently high quality production for me since the beginning. The humor is definitely my cup of tea, though as with any episodic gag comedy, some sketches do miss. It is more often than not a hit. The seiyuu cast is a huge huge pull, as this is not them only acting out an already written character but you can actually hear them having fun as the sextuplets. It is also one of the rarer shows where I, as a person who isn’t great at focusing on visuals, appreciate the impeccable quality of animation. So hype for another season of this majorly fun series and to welcome Matsuno’s back home - coziness, here I come.
Quanzhi Gaoshou 2
I watched the first season of Quanzhi Gaoshou (or King’s Avatar) because it was made by the studio of MDZS, and it was the first time I had seen a good looking Chinese animation production. And it didn’t disappoint. Production quality was similar and more importantly, it had a very engaging plot - pro MMORPG players playing MMORPG,  their personal dramas and the actual (surprisingly fun for me) gameplay and action. Its most important quality is still its charming cast for me, a successful ensemble cast, where with the exception of the antagonists, everyone and their relationships are lovely. Mostly a male cast show, it does also have nice ladies. Looking forward to going back to them. My only personal issue (definitely not a flaw on the show’s part but my attention span) is that it has so many teams and characters that I forgot most of who was who. Fingers crossed it’ll be easy to get back into.
Haikyuu!!: To the Top 2nd Season
Haikyuu is back again, to finish off the “To the Top” arc. The first cour of this season was probably the season that took me out of the Haikyuu hypnosis state where I assumed everything that came out with the name attached to it was great. It was still enjoyable in its second half but I do feel like the magic has worn off now. I hope I’m wrong and the tournament hype will bring it back again. Haikyuu is at its best when it’s tense in-match and funny with character interactions, so fingers crossed for that.
Ani ni Tsukeru Kusuri wa Nai! 4
The Chinese comedy short is back! As mentioned a couple of paragraphs ago, gag comedies are always hit or miss with their sketches, and this one is also mostly a hit for me, though definitely not at the level of Osomatsu-san. The pull of this show is the cute boys and their dumbassery. Looking forward to its easy fun and more Kai Xin.
Also continuing...
Tumblr media
Mo Dao Zu Shi Q, Great Pretender
Have been enjoying both these shows greatly so far. 2 more cours of MDZS Q to go with their cute chibi fun, and Great Pretender’s last case (9 eps) is already released on Japanese Netflix so now we wait for Laurent and the gang to reach us. Really looking forward to the emotional drama of Laurent and hopefully some proper addressal of his feelings for Edamame. Either way, it’ll look gorgeous and will be heaps of fun if the first three cases are anything to go by.
I might pick up other shows and most likely drop some of these throughout the season but here’s hoping it will be enjoyable overall despite the small number of shows I’ll start with. What are you guys planning to watch?

Winter Anime 2019
And here is the seasonal review! There were some amazing second seasons, mob psycho, kakegurui, fukigen na mononokean, but also some great new ones!
We try to give our opinion on the new anime this season without too much of a synopsis (you can get that anywhere) and just our comments ~ Of course, your view of an anime might be different, but we hope we made it easier for you to decide what to watch next  (^▽^)
{ Winter ‘18 }  { Spring ‘18 }  { Summer ‘18 }  { Fall ‘18 }
Adorable Food Goddess
Tumblr media
Totally expected just food and more food, but it actually has an interesting plot. It’s also hilarious and the main girl is great, funny and capable! Which rarely happens in this kind of genres. So it’s a big plus! So, romance, food and laughs, a good combination ^^
Boogiepop Phantom
Tumblr media
Somewhat weird at the beginning and through the middle and the rest... xD BUT it has that interesting eerie aura that keeps you yearning for more and go through till the end. Also, keep in mind if you plan to watch this that you should begin with the 2019 version first and then switch to the older one since that is the chronological order of events (also try to remember the names of people because the art style is different so that you don’t suffer like me xD).
Dimension High School
Tumblr media
This one is really special. A stupid kind of humor some people (like me hehe) might enjoy, but others will consider utter rubbish. The mix of 3D and animation is weird and the whole story is a bit dumb, but it somehow works in their favor. If you like stupid humor, you might like it. You can tell right from the first episode because all the rest have the same feel to it. (I don’t regret watching it, it did make me laugh and I actually looked forward to relaxing a bit watching it every week ^^ just don’t expect anything amazing)
Domestic Girlfriend
Tumblr media
A romance and drama story about a boy in love with his teacher and then he tries to get over it by sleeping with a girl he meets. Soon, both of them become his sisters due to their parents marriage. It is angsty and has a lot of drama, and even more unresolved complexes considering their sexuality, affection and relationships. Also, who let these teachers be teachers? haha. It’s a drama, sometimes too awkward and slow, but there is a lot of fanservice with the girls for those interested and the story develops in an interesting way that makes you continue watching it. It also does well in portraying the characters development and the more psychological side of the story.
Dororo
Tumblr media
Amazing and ingenious! Loved it! One of the best this season. It is a bit on the darker side and has some gruesome scenes, but it’s extremely interesting, the story is well paced, the battle scenes are great and there are some heartwarming ones as well (also Dororo is precious). Looked forward to this every week! Beautiful and compelling to watch!
Gen:lock
Tumblr media
A mecha story done right! Rooster teeth never disappoints! Maybe it doesn’t fit in this list, but it’s still amazing and interesting! The characters are also extremely different and lovable ~
Gotobun no Hanayome
Tumblr media
An anime about a guy being a tutor to his harem that happen to be quintuplets. Not really that interesting, but not too terrible. It’s okay for one episode a week, but probably couldn’t binge watch it though.
Grimms Notes The Animation
Tumblr media
It’s pretty generic anime, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good, just doesn’t have the wow effect. It doesn’t stand out, but the idea behind it all is good! The main characters venture into the world of different stories, everything from Little Red Riding Hood to Alice in Wonderland and show an alternative side to the well known tales. Cute and amusing, just not binge-worthy material.
Kaguya-sama: Love is war
Tumblr media
A not so typical romance story where the two protagonists really seem to be made for each other, but their pride keeps getting in the way xD There is also the funny commentary from the narrator that quirks up the already comedic scenes. Definitely worth the watch, it’s hilarious! (I looked forward to this anime and it even exceeded my expectations!)
Kemurikusa
Tumblr media
Okay, we really loved this anime. The first episode was confusing, but the more you watch the more interesting it becomes. It has a really interesting and imaginative plot. Everything is really well done, from the characters to the world. The only thing that will probably deter people the most is the animation, but you get used to it with time and it’s worth “suffering through” it for the story ^^
Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka
Tumblr media
Once again there is a dark magical girl anime in the season! The plot is not too deep but interesting enough if you are into this kind of story. The only difference is that this anime leans more to the military type of battle, rather than just magic. Be prepared to see lots of blood, boobs, tragic backgrounds and some yuri teasing!
Meiji Tokyo Renka
Tumblr media
A typical otome of the season. The MC is pretty blank, but they tried to make it lovable by giving her cute traits like tripping (all the time) and loving food lol But aside from her and her main guy, the side characters are pretty sweet and interesting (they are the reason I continued watching this)!
Tumblr media
So well, a sweet romance story, but the bickering of everyone else but the main couple is priceless!
My Roommate is a Cat
Tumblr media
This anime is really fun to watch if you own a cat (or are a passionate lover of felines) because you can easily relate to the daily life of Haru. You get to see her reactions, from the point of a cat, on various situations and easily laugh or cry over the fun and sentimental things she goes through with her owner (who is also very relatable). A lot of feels, a lot of cuteness, loved it! Both easy going and filled with emotions and character growth.
Near Death!! Ekoda-chan
Tumblr media
A 3 minute anime about Ekoda and her everyday life. Each episode has a different director and voice actor, but they all do a very good job portraying Ekoda. It’s short so it doesn’t get boring, even though the episodes are sometimes completely random and sometimes they are incredibly relatable. Overall, liked it ^^
Psychic Princess
Tumblr media
Still haven’t watched enough episodes to truly say it’s amazing, but so far it is! The main heroine is finally capable and independent. She can fight and speak to ghosts and will let no man near. It’s still a romance story, with plenty of datable guys. And it’s also very funny ^^
Shingeki no Bahamut: Manaria Friends
Tumblr media
15 minute long episodes that tell the story of two (girl)friends in the Mysteria academy, in the SnB universe. The plot isn’t connected with Virgin Soul so you can watch it even if you haven’t seen the other seasons. The plot is somewhat yuri oriented and concentrates mainly on school life.
The Promised Neverland
Tumblr media
Probably everybody knows about this anime, that is just how good it is. It will always leave you on the edge of your seat. It is really interesting and well made. The characters are great, the plot is great. Loved it!
The Rising of the Shield Hero
Tumblr media
Not your typical I-got-teleported-into-another-world anime because in the very first episode there’s a really good plot twist. It’s really interesting to follow the character development and each episode leaves you yearning for more. Although everyone seemed hyped for this anime adaptation, I didn’t think that it would leave me so amazed at the very beginning and excited to see more!
Dropped:  Ueno-san wa Bukiyou,  Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai,  Endro!,  Cost of Smiles

a little bit o’ spring anime season retrospective, a little late 👇
I’ve only watched 2.5 series involved in the Isekai Quartet but I was thirsty for Re: Zero content so I tuned in to this. I’mma be honest: this was fun. Crossovers are fun. I really enjoyed seeing funny skeleton man and Goddess of Dumbass interact, and I think equal time and attention was given to all parties involved, and that made it fun, too. It was accessible for someone like me whose knowledge of these shows was only tertiary and even if it had its questionable moments (Darkness I hate you so much), the sum is an enjoyable package. I question if this show could work with any other quartet of isekai heroes because all other isekai protagonists are boring af.
Watching Fruits Basket again makes me realize that I absorbed too much of Tohru Honda into my personality when I was impressionable and wee and never figured out that it was bad. Anyway this was a nice new coat of paint on a beloved series. The updated designs are nice to look at and the care given to the new material is evident. But it is considerably less…fun than the first incarnation and can I be honest? As a manga reader, knowing what I know about how the little love triangle pans out and watching it from the beginning? I just don’t like Kyo like I did when I was 12. Which, uh, wasn’t that much to begin with. Tohru deserves the world and the anime has a lot of work to do to convince me that Kyo can give that to her.
Fairy Gone takes its place alongside The Lost Village for being the biggest waste of time. In its favor: I liked the main character’s design and that she wore pants. Its sins: horrible clunky CGI I could not make out, way too many proper nouns, infodumps every episode, butt rock, a general disinterest in its main cast and their secrets. It expected me to care about a bunch of stuffy old men and their machinations when there were friends-to-enemies girlfriends in the background they weren’t even considering. I don’t remember who the assistant attorney general prime minister of Not-England is and I don’t care. The fact that this gets another 12 episodes is baffling, how anyone could anyone listen to another 12 episodes of dull political cud-chewing is beyond me.
Carole and Tuesday makes La La Land look like a plastic bag tumbling underneath a highway. Carole and Tuesday should win the Oscar for best everything. Carole and Tuesday is the best contemporary musical by a mile. Watanabe has been waiting 25 years just to make this show, and it’s a delightful cross section of everything that’s made his shows successful in the past—the slice of life futurepunk of Cowboy Bebop, the zaniness of Space Dandy, the ensemble cast of Samurai Champloo. It’s a pleasure to watch. I love seeing these girls underestimated and then blow everyone out of the water, it’s a consistent delight. The soundtrack is amazing and everything on it sounds genuine and legitimate—probably because it is. Netflix shouldn’t be keeping this one all to itself.
Hitoribocchi was a sweet little gem of goodwill. Strange, anxious Bocchi’s quest to make friends with her equally strange classmates was funny, empathetic, and endearing. I love this cast of weirdo misfits and who among us doesn’t secretly hope their friends don’t forget about them when they’re sick oh thank goodness it’s not just me.
Senryuu Shoujo was a little cute, a little funny, a little heartwarming. It’s forgettable but a nice kind of forgettable, where you fondly remember it for five minutes and then move on with your life. It’s a short form series so if you’re in the mood for a quick n’ light shoujo about pining and misunderstanding, this is an easy recommendation.
I think I set my expectations too high for Sarazanmai. I wanted it to be the takedown of yaoi tropes like Yurikuma so gleefully pitchforked yuri tropes, but that wasn’t its project at all. It was Ikuhara’s most visceral work, but also, I feel, his most grounded in reality, which is a weird fucking thing to say about a show wherein three boys turn into kappas to go up the concept of someone’s butt. This was, decidedly, my least favorite Ikuhara title, which isn’t to say it’s bad. It’s just not Penguindrum or Yurikuma. Its scope felt smaller, its commentary less biting, its reveals less….revealing. Stand By Me is a bangin’ ED, though, I will Stand By That.
Kono Oto Tomare suffers from not knowing who its main character is. Surely it’s Megane Senpai, who starts the show off? But it’s not, it’s most assuredly Delinquent Guy, who is the emotional heart of the show and who definitely has something going on with our third main character, Prodigy Girl, leaving Megane Senpai the third wheel. This show just doesn’t start with its feet underneath it—it hobbles along an ungainly fusion of shoujo and sports anime and doesn’t do either tremendously. It does, however, have a heart, and this cast did eventually grow on me and I want to see them succeed. Protip: if your show is about an activity, please feature the activity. There is very little actual koto playing in this show and this is one of its biggest missteps. It’s a serviceable show, but not a great one.
I don’t drop a lot of anime but I dropped Cinderella Nine at episode 5 because it was just too ugly. It was so bad that I began to doubt there was an “on model”. There was just nothing going for it—the character designs were awful, the animation would pass as a power point, and the sportball was nonexistant. Non Non.
Dororo really let me down. I didn’t care for its ending at all, and in fact, sort of felt as if it nullified all the hard work of the prior 23 episodes. Having Dororo and Hyakkimaru part is a terrible decision. Nothing was learned. The payoff was not rewarding. Would have to point to Aldnoah to find an ending in recent memory I disliked more than this one. >:(/10
The show I was most hyped for every week was Demon Slayer. It didn’t start out swinging—Tanjiro’s origin story is unfortunately pretty par for the course in terms of shonen heroes, and the years-long training arc and time skip right after it was not the most inviting beginning. In fact, that’s where I dropped the manga when I tried reading it a couple of years ago. But ufotable makes this serviceable and by the fourth episode or so, I was completely sold. Something I loved about the manga was its unique artstyle and use of patterns and gradients—any other studio would have sacrificed both. Watching a fight scene in Demon Slayer is a joy. Characters ping pong around each other and footwork is fancy and weapons feel dangerous and the techniques look cool and require Tanjiro to puzzle them out. Also, Tanjiro is such a good boy. He drinks so much respect women juice. Every time an episode ends I’m disappointed I don’t have more to watch.

Symphogear XV, Episode 1
Hey! Symphogear's back! And given that these are, historically, my most popular posts, I guess I get to do an episode reaction!
And before you ask, Crunchyroll until something better comes along, but I'm paying for this, I may as well use it.
Also, no pictures, because I'm lazy rn and don't feel like tempting fate and Tumblr's upload system.
Bloody handprints. This bodes well!
Is this the Frontier? It looks like the Frontier control room
Uhh, yeah, that's the Frontier, and they just turned on the Moon
Blue-haired deady guy says they can't explain anymore, and asks Fine for forgiveness. Factions in ancient humanity? Pro- sleeping with gods and anti-sleeping with gods?
And cut to a submarine. Wherever we are now, it's cold
Something is arming itself in response to the Symphogirls' approach. Apparently it's a "coffin" and a precursor relic. This bodes well!
Hibiki, if I'm not wrong, Lake Vostok is in Antarctica. Summer there tops out at, like, just under freezing.
Ah, and then Chris says the same thing. Good on you Chris, keep being smart.
Ah, that's a laser beam. Upside: the sun's out now, Hibiki!
"bone-chilling"... I hope that's the translators, but the way the line is delivered makes me afraid that it's not.
Can I have a coffin like that? Not just the particle beam, but the stupid penguin design too?
Baller transformation sequence, Hibiki. Keep it up.
Oh, pleasant surprise: translated insert songs!
Huh, crystal pillars after an attack. Y'know what those look like? The upgrade material in XDU.
Genjuro, it's a mobile autonomous mech. It's not "just" a coffin no matter how you look at it.
Ooh, the coffin has laser hornet drones! Another reason to want one!
Kirika and Shirabe just ice skating along. Truly this is Yuri on Ice.
Ouch. Just... slapped out of the air. That's gotta hurt.
Directed energy at... negative temperatures? That's... not how energy works? Like, at all?
Ah, Elfnein here to tell us that physics doesn't hold with this magic nonsense either. Good.
Less good: The Symphogirls are now frozen in XDU upgrade material
And flashback time! The Lydian school song again
Miku on the piano, teacher listening. Is this a test for Hibiki? God thing she gets lots of singing in these days as *a magical girl saving the world*. That's gotta help for practice, right?
Ah, it was a test. Looks like Hibiki didn't fail the year at least.
"... [Y]ou're singing in your heart". Yup, for the past four seasons! Maybe you saw it on the news that time she saved the moon? Or the time she saved the planet? Or the other time she saved the planet? Or that time she punched the devil so hard he exploded? She's gotten pretty good at singing, Teach. Maybe you just have unreasonably high standards?
"I know you're busy" Do you? I'd think working for the UN is good for a few missed tests.
"BTW", says a nearby public TV news report "remember that we're going to the moon together with the US, the country that TRIED TO NUKE US SIX MONTHS AGO. PRETTY FUCKING MAGNANIMOUS OF US TO NOT DEMAND, LIKE, REPARATIONS OR SANCTIONS OR SOMETHING. Anyway, on to sports. Todd?"
Okay, real talk here, the normal is important. The downside is that now that you've pointed it out, Hibiki, something's about to happen.
"What if I was causing trouble for someone?" okay, calling it now, Miku will end up in a 'gear fighting Hibiki before the end of the season. She'll have a good reason, and she'll end up fighting alongside her wife by the end, but it'll start with them fighting.
Oh look, an explosion. This is what you get for pointing out how normal it's been, Hibiki
Hey! Ogawa remembered that Miku is cleared for this stuff and picks her up too! Thanks, Ogawa.
Hibiki, you are 17 years old. You should know by know that lakes can freeze. Especially in Antarctica.
Elfnein says man-made climate change is real!
I mean, the implication that it was a precursor civilization moving scorpions around the planet is a bit of a stretch, it could've just been ancient humans, but sure, let's go with aliens.
"Adam was trying to use the power of the gods to accomplish a goal of some sort" Really? He didn't just want it to have it? Adam fucking Weisshaupt had a *goal*? I am shook.
Ah, the goal was to blow up a time traveling coffin. Because that was foreshadowed so well in AXZ.
And we're back to the present! Our girls are still frozen.
Are you... are you miming a telescope? Does that actually work because of bullshit catgirl magic, or are you just being silly?
I'm just going to assume that the leader of our new villain trio is about to raid Area 51. Nevada plates on the car and being in the middle of the desert, mostly. I'm going to ignore the fact that the terrain around Area 51 looks nothing like that.
Heh, Genjuro just gonna go punch a coffin shaped like a penguin mech. Don't worry about it, he's got his long-johns on.
"If they catch cold it'll be really bad!" Dude, catching a cold is the least of their worries right now; they're about to be crushed by an ancient alien coffin mech.
Hah! Everyone had their breakout moment at the same time! Way to steal Hibiki's rescuing people thunder girls.
And of course Tsubasa can surf. She's just that cool.
"Hibiki! Punch the laser!" "I don't understand what that means, but okay!"
"Analyzing and reconstructing is the fundamental principal of alchemy!" I mean... not quite? At least you're closer than you were last time though, kid.
Ooh, this music sounds important. Like an OP. Guess this is gonna be an important series of punches coming up.
"Even so! There's a song in my heart!" This has... implications. Although it does explain how the girls could sing in the vacuum of space all those times.
Good on you, Chris, aim and blow up that stupid penguin thing!
And once again Chris shows herself to be the smart one. "Don't talk about upcoming birthdays and party plans in the middle of a fight! That'll raise Death Flags!"
Ooh, alien body! It's got a bracer of some sort too. Five gets you ten it's the McGuffin for at least the first half of the season, and another 25% beyond that that it turns into Miku's new 'Gear.
Alright, the next 12 weeks are going to be painful waiting, aren't they? Consider my hype for the season.

Does Takeru have high pain tolerance?
Just a little thought that I’ve been having ever since Takeru’s story has been revealed.
Tumblr media
So when Takeru was rescued, he looked exhausted and sad, but otherwise not really looking like he had just been through six months of torture. In fact, when his grandparents showed up he even smiled and said he was okay. What truly breaks him is when he finds out his parents died while searching for him. So what Takeru has to deal with is an emotional pain, grief and blame. I’m not sure if that’s 100% accurate, but sometimes people with high physical pain tolerance are more affected by emotional pain than other people.
Tumblr media
Now this shot might break this theory since Takeru reacts to the shocks pretty much the same as Yusaku, though it can also be possible that he was screaming from fear and disbelief that his favorite card game has been turned into a personal hell for him (I think he mentions during the duel with Go that Lost Incident took the fun from Duel Monsters for him). Either way, Lost Incident scarred him deeply, but not necessary due to the pain from electric shocks - he was isolated, starved, forced to undergo experiment and he also lost parents because of it.
Tumblr media
Another scene that may break my pain tolerance theory – Burning Draw. Due to the taken damage Takeru falls on his knees, similar to how normal person would from the pain. However this is not the same moment when he activates his skill – if he really had low pain tolerance, he would be hurting when activating his skill, not long after. He probably collapsed due to exhaustion and not really the pain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The lyrics from opening also kinda bring up the topic of the pain. In a way it is a song from Takeru for Yusaku: “I feel your flame” - I know how you feel, I’ve been there and it adds “I want to share your pain” - I know your pain was greater, let me take some of it away from you. Since he joined Yusaku, Takeru has been trying to help him in any way he could. He saw that Yusaku fought his enemies despite the trauma, but deep down he probably knew that he is hurting and decided to give him a hand.
Tumblr media
Yusaku suffers from many things, but unlike Takeru, he can’t really smile or still enjoy duelling, meaning accident affected him differently. It could be that whenever he experiences the effects of PTSD, every possible positive emotion is ripped away from him so after so many failed attempts to try to live normally – Yusaku simply gave up as he no longer saw the reason to smile. PTSD reminds him of pain, pain reminds him of Lost Incident and because of it, Yusaku can hardly live normally by this point – the only thing left for him is to bring the people who scarred him to justice.
Tumblr media
Somehow Takeru remains in his high spirits, not completely due to the loss of his parents, but he’s far more open with everyone than Yusaku. Once he started living with his grandparents he started hating everything and became depressed and closed, similar to Jin, though it was again because of his parents passing and not really the Lost Incident itself. Kiku even points out that Takeru has always been full of life and still is. It could be possible that he used to be a happy child but once Lost Incident happened, he started blaming it and therefore himself for his parents’ death and locked himself from the world as a form a punishment. That liveliness of his remains sealed within him until he sees the article about Playmaker, Go and Blue Angel. Not sure how he found out about Yusaku being a Lost Child, but in one way or another – those articles awakened something in him. Maybe after years of self-imprisonment, he has finally realized there is a way he can help and soon his cheery persona is back. When he tells Go that he needs to continue winning, he was probably pointing to the fact that the more he duels, the more his heart can be unlocked.
Tumblr media
The first time Takeru was announced as a new character, I honestly expected another computer nerd like Revolver and yet still somehow chill person like Kusanagi. In no way I thought Takeru would be the cheerful friend that Yusaku needed for the past fifty episodes and even share the same past as him. Now that I’m putting pieces together, I kinda believe that Takeru is using Yusaku as his anchor, as the reason to continue fighting just like him. Perhaps once he met Flame and realizing Yusaku is a victim of Lost Incident just like him (I mean Takeru knew awful a lot about Lost Incident that Yusaku only came learn over the past episodes – like knowing about Dr. Kogami, the fact that each Ignis is based on a Lost Child and Cyberse world stuff – though then again Flame could tell him all of this – another a bit farfetched theory is this:
Tumblr media
Though I doubt Takeru could afford it – yeah, Flame most likely told him everything completely for free (And I still wonder who bought the data – maybe Bowman and Haru? Or the shadowy figure they work for.)
Back to the main topic – maybe the whole fighting with himself was a result of him trying to let go of the blame for his parents’ death. He didn’t feel the same pain as others did and believes the emotional pain was a punishment he deserved and needed a while to know it is not. Maybe he’ll continue returning to his true self by each duel – with Blue Girl now. Maybe he secretly wishes to duel Playmaker but at the same time knows Yusaku would do everything not to lose so that’s why he tries to be helpful all the time. He still wants to challenge Yusaku, but not just yet – not until Yusaku is ready.
Tumblr media
In the meanwhile Takeru tries to be a friend that he himself needed to Yusaku, knowing that Yusaku’s mental state is everything but okay. He tries to not be too intrusive and surprisingly Yusaku doesn’t mind it one bit, even allowing him to call him by the first name – something that is usually allowed to only close friends and family. I surely hope that Takeru uses his inability to feel pain to help Yusaku and healing his own soul through it.
The whole reason I came up with this theory is mainly Yugo from ARC V manga (in case you didn’t read all 34 chapters – the following contains heavy spoilers so read at your own risk).
Tumblr media
Unlike Yuri and Yuya who both collapsed from the pain during the duel with Sora, Yugo looks surprisingly alright, even smiling and manages to get them all away to safety in time.
Tumblr media
(may I also add how adorably similar the two of them look too?)
Okay back to the point – just like mentioned previously, despite the smile, Takeru is also grieving inside. Just like Yugo:
Tumblr media
Yugo can handle the worst pain, like the after effects of receiving damage and continue riding his D-Wheel after nearly dying, but what he cannot handle is his family suffering – in this case, Yuya.
Tumblr media
We still don’t know what exactly happened (hype for chapter 35), but whatever it was, the sole memory of it would, according to Yugo, make Yuya suffer. Because of that, he’d keep on erasing his memories and even Yuto would do everything to keep them from Yuya. In all cases, Yugo deeply cares for Yuya and would do anything to protect him.
Tumblr media
Just like Takeru.
I believe that Takeru sees Yusaku as the family he wishes to protect from any more harm and uses his pain tolerance to provide support that Yusaku needs. Jin was too traumatized by it and Specter enjoyed, so Takeru is really the only one who understands Yusaku’s pain and is still capable to help him out.
Considering Kusanagi might switch sides and therefore leaving Yusaku, the poor guy will at least still have Takeru. Who knows, maybe after the whole betrayal episode, Kusanagi might reveal his true identity to SOL and Yusaku will need a place to hide – bam Takeru takes him to his hometown, away from Den City where Yusaku can emotionally recover after the betrayal and talks about personal things with Takeru for the first time and maybe he meets Kiku and his grandparents and learns to trust people again.
Anyway, hopefully, Takeru’s and Yusaku’s relationship is explored further in the series! I really love the two of them and they deserve the world!

AWM 2017 recap
Things I saw at AWM today plus some bonus content I was informed of by other attendees of the event (roughly in chronological order):
Cinderella Girls
- I know next to nothing about this series except that Rin and Uzuki and that Love Laika duo are popular yuri ships lol.
- I already forgot their setlist OTL sorry I’d probably remember if I listened to some of their songs again. I think they performed 5? STAR, GOIN…uh…
- They pretty much spoke Japanese the entire time and were impressed that the audience seemed to be following along well despite that.
- They did a live skit or something? They showed clips from the anime(?) for each character and had them read a script live. Was pretty cute.
- Lit songs of the set list: YES PARTY TIME (is…is that the right title lol I just remember screaming those words a lot), and of course their closing song Onegai Cinderella.
- Okay to be exact all the songs were exciting but those two were particularly lit. iM@S songs have somewhat difficult calls (at least compared to Aqours) but those two songs are pretty easy to follow along with for wotaing even if you’re not at all familiar with the series.
- They performed one song I wasn’t familiar with because it wasn’t on the AWM Day 0 fan-compiled playlist nor the CG callbook _(:3 」∠)_ I believe this was one of their opening songs, so I started off the concert vaguely waving my KB and chanting “HAI HAI HAI HAI Uhhhh I don’t know the calls for this OOOH HAI OOOH HAI”, thanks for carrying the rest of us, Producers 👌
- Okay a friend has told me that song is Yumeiro Harmony? RIP.
Wake Up, Girls!
- 6 songs performed: Tachiagare!, Koi? de Ai? de Boukun Desu!, SHOUJO KOUKYOUKYOKU, Beyond the Bottom, 7 Girls War, Gokujou Smile. I…already forgot the exact order of the songs, but I *think* at least the first two are in the right places. Beyond the Bottom was close to the end iirc.
- I watched a grand total of 3 episodes of the anime plus the first movie so I’m not particularly familiar with the series, but I got attached to Minyami…to no one’s surprise lol, she happens to be the character whose image color is yellow and has a “nya” catchphrase 🙃 I screamed whenever she got a solo part she’s so cute aaah
- Mayushii is such a good singer holy fuck, kinda reminds me of a super-ikemen Emitsun (except ever since I saw a niconama of her crying hysterically over a horror game I can’t take her seriously :3c).
- They were saying things about having the audience smile or something as a lead-in into Gokujou Smile lol
- They tried to speak a bit of English, but it was mostly basic stuff. They were cute. :)
- I broke a UG (Ultra Green, the green version of a UO/Ultra Orange - which y'all might be familiar with from Snow halation) for Tachiagare and I lost my shit because Shukamod couldn’t find her UG, and she ended up breaking like 4-6 UBs (Ultra Blue, for songs like KoiAqua and MIRAI TICKET) unintentionally in her frantic search for one before I took pity on her and gave her my spare lol.
- SHOUJO KKK was motherfucking lit, everyone lost their shit at the hips great choreography and deep voices.
- Lowkey sad that they didn’t perform 16 sai no Agape because it’s the first WUG song I knew (thanks to King’s ANiUTa playlist) but I don’t have any complaints about their performance tbh. They are really, really good dancers and Mayushii’s singing is so damn ikemen I died.
- Everyone else in ONIBE was 🍝 for Yoppi lol.
- 15min intermission afterwards.
Walkure
- Only 2 members performed but it was still lit~
- These two are so talented??? The audience (me included) completely lost their shit at Ikenai Borderline.
- Shukamod probably had a good laugh at me screaming shit like “OH MY GOD JUNNA IS 16 HOW TF IS SHE THIS GOOD WHAT AN IKEBO HOLY SHIT”
- oh yeah, setlist…uhhh…also can’t recall the titles from the top of my head, but Ichi Do Dake no Koi Nara was one I remember. Really good song holy mother of god.
- Friends have reminded me that there was 5, and the first song was Koi Halation, other was Bokura no Senjou, and also supplied the title of the last song (I know the calls but not the title lol).
- In the MC, JUNNA and Minori talked about how they were really impressed by the American burgers. They wanted recommendations for more delicious burgers and several people in the audience had to start a chant to help them remember. They started to say McDonald’s and everyone screamed in horror until they eventually caught on that people were chanting “In N Out” lmao.
- They spoke so much Engrish bless these kids
- For the MC before the last song (Run ga Pikatta Hikattara), Minori was trying to teach the audience the call for it and was pleasantly surprised when the audience automatically did the call once she started singing a specific part of the song without her having to spell it out for us. What do you take us for, casuals? >:|
- All the solo parts were done by Minori…dunno if that’s normal but that’s what I noticed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Aqours
- These are somewhat arbitrary numbers but it seemed like that the audience was made of like 25% CG fans, 10% WUG fans, 5% Walkure fans, and then the rest were there for Aqours. Possibly even more for Aqours, since I saw an insane number of people wearing the caps from the You birthday set lol. I even spotted someone cosplaying Ruby from the recent Time Travel set on SIF, holy shit how did they assemble that costume for AX so quickly… Anyways, of course the entire theater went wild when Aqours was finally up to perform.
- Like for their Christmas minilive and 1st Live, the members entered 1 by 1 through a splash screen introducing their character by default member order (i.e. Chika-Riko-Kanan-Dia-You-etc).
- To no one’s surprise, they started with Aozora Jumping Heart. @saitou-shuka and I were pretty much screaming our hearts out from the start. Shukamod broke a mega UO during Shukashuu’s intro lmao.
- They were wearing their MIRAI TICKET outfits and their set list basically turned out to be almost identical to their ANiUPa setlist.
- MC (member introductions using their standard character speeches e.g. Kanan going “I guess my appeal point is my muscles?”) after Aozora. They went down the line in the order Aikyan-Furirin-King-Rikyako-Anchan-Shukashuu-Suwawa-Arisha-Ainya.
- They didn’t do their call and responses (T_T) and I noticed that right away when Aikyan went into her introduction, so after she finished speaking I screamed “OHAYOSHIKO” and a few people copied me, I think? Me and Shukamod ended up shouting the call & responses before or after each introduction lol.
- Aikyan mentioned that this was her first time in America with Aqours, and when King did her introduction she sounded so smug going “This is my second time zura~~~”
- Rikyako mentioned that this was actually the first overseas performance for Aqours (which I already knew but it’s still cool to be reminded again) and everyone was hyped.
- Screamed a lot during Shuka’s intro RIP my voice.
- Suwawa started her self-intro and forgot what her lines were partway through so we had a good laugh when she went “Eh, nandake?” all of a sudden lol.
- People were cheering loudly for Arisha partway through her introduction, so she shushed everyone and then went “suki” and everyone lost their shit again.
- Ainya is so tiny omg what a shiny smol girl
- I made the resolution to be the American version of that one guy who always screams “AAAAaIiiNYAAAaaaAAa” at Aqours lives, and according to Shukamod I did a pretty good replication of it :3c
- Rikyako and Suwawa were in charge of the English language MC and their English has gotten really, really good holy crap. Only complaint I would have was the line “Let’s enjoy with us!” (should be something like “Let’s have fun together” or w/e), but their pronunciation and speed were godly. Both spoke a lot, but Rikyako in particular was really active in repeating stuff said in Japanese into English.
- Ainya was really clingy with Arisha lol I don’t remember which MC it was during but Ainya kept hugging Arisha and stuff lol
- Rikyako then said that the next song would be from their first single and everyone got hyped for KimiKoko.
- SHUKA LEAPFROG IN HER MIRAI TICKET OUTFIT WOOHOO SEEING IT LIVE WAS WILD
- KOIAQUA AFTERWARDS WHOOOOOOO SHUKA’S DANCING WAS SO GOOD!!! Also according to some people in other seats there were some audience members who were doing the “IE TAIGAAAA” calls for this song 🙃 Shukamod and I each broke a handful of UBS for this of course haha
- Another MC/small break afterwards! Furirin did that routine she always does at Aqours lives where she suddenly collapses and asks if she can have a water break lol is this gonna be a regular routine now?
- SHUKA ACCIDENTALLY TOOK ANCHAN’S BOTTLE AND FLAILED AND SAID SOMETHING LIKE “OH NO I DRANK SO MUCH OF CHIKA-CHAN’S WATER”
- MIRAI TICKET was announced as the Ep 13 insert song to be performed next! It was fun breaking out the UOs and UBS for this song too~ The “we say yousoro” part was of course enthusiastically screamed by all the You fans in particular o7
- Surprise song Yume Kataru yori Yume Utaou! They brought out pom poms too! Ainya and Arisha had a really cute hug in this song :D According to others apparently the 1st years were also super clingy and were doing lots of group hugs and stuff
Miscellaneous
- I spotted someone trying to record a part of the concert in the beginning and got really mad and pointed it out to the members of ONIBE I was sitting with. We screamed something like “HEY FUCKER YOU WITH THE CAMERA STOP FUCKING RECORDING” at him after the song, which caused a lot of stares but did achieve the effect of getting him to stop.
- When Aqours finished, Anchan became the MC for the closing speeches at the end.
- Minori had a paper at the closing MC with a speech written in English on it lol. She tweeted a picture of it after the performance, but basically it’s something along the lines of “Thanks everyone, In n Out burgers No. 1!!!” lmao
- JUNNA couldn’t come on stage at the closing MC with all the artists at the end because minors (JUNNA is 16) aren’t allowed to work after 10pm lmao, I had been so confused and concerned until that announcement was made and then I just cracked up.
- I saw Anchan making an adorable pouty face during one of the other groups’ closing speech aaaah so precious.
- Furirin and Shukashuu were doing small “ganbaruby” motions off to the side bless these two :’D
- King kept doing the Ohanamaru pose too lol
- Apparently for the VIP meet & greet after the concert, someone did a “hagu shiyo” with their friend in front of Suwawa, and in response Suwawa did it too with Shukashuu.
- Sosa (Korean Twitter artist famous for their NozoEli video comic of Garasu no Hanazono) was apparently at AWM today…AND RECEIVED A CALLBOOK FROM ONIBE. I MIGHT HAVE WALKED PAST ONE OF THE KOREAN ARTISTS WHO’VE I’VE TRANSLATED FOR. I MIGHT HAVE EVEN HANDED ONE TO THEM. WHAT THE HELL??

Ladies and gentlemen: the finale.
Yuya and Reiji are still going at it
Yuya’s got all 4 of his dragons on the field
Reiji’s got Zorc, Z-One and Don Thousand there to help him
Reiji’s talking about pendulum monsters… and Odd Eyes in particular
And
HE HAS Z-ONE ATTACK THE DRAGONS
AND DON THOUSAND OPENS UP A VOTREX IN THE SKY
DARK REBELLION, CLEAR WING AND STARVE EVNOM GET STUCKED UP INTO IT
And then he had Zorc attack Odd Eyes
Odd Eyes gets taken out!
Yuya’s down to 1250 LP
Reiji ends his turn!
Damn Reiji, that was fierce
But Yuya’s too determined to bring back Reira’s smile and Yuzu from the depths of Arc V to quite now
Yuri, Yugo and Yuto give Yuya some words of encouragement
Yuya takes his turn, and it’s like all 4 boys took it omg
They all comment on the magic card they just drew
Yuya plays it, Odd Eyes Fusion Gate
He’s able to bring back Starve Venom and Odd Eyes!
YUYA AND YURI FUSE THEM TOGETHER
Aw yes this was the Yuri I always wanted
They summon Odd Eyes Venom Dragon at 3300 ATK
Aw yeah what’s happening
UM
HOLY SHIT
IT’S ATTACK JUST WENT UP TO 13800
WOW OKAY
ALLEN AND SAYAKA LOOK SO IMPRESSED
YUYA GOES IN FOR THE ATTACK, BUT!
REIJI ACTIVATES… ONE OF HIS MONSTERS EFFECTS
BRINGS ODVD BACK DOWN TO 3300 ATK
BUT THE ATTACK HAS ALREADY BEEN DECLARED?? FUCK THIS GORGEOUS DRAGON IS ABOUT TO BE DESTROYED
BUT WAIT!
YUYA RUSHES TO GET AN ACTION CARD!
HE GRABS ONE, BUT… IT’S OF NO USE
THE ATTACK CONNECTS
YUYA’S DOWN TO 1050 LP
Okay okay Yuri doesn’t look mad at all
Neither does Yugo!
Yuya plays his magic card again
And be brings out another magic card, Odd Eyes Synchro Gate
AND HE TUNES THEM TOGETHER
AHHHH THE MUSIC FROM EPISODE 37 IS PLAYING
YUYA AND YUGO SYNHVCRO SUMMON ODD EYES WINGED DRAGON
JACK LOOKS SO PLEASED WITH THIS NEW DEVELOPMENT
YUYA TARGETS DON THOUSAND FOR ODWD’S EFFECT, WHICH DOES… IDK BUT I BET IT’S GOOD
YUYA GOES IN FOR THE ATTACK
AND
UM
YUYA’S DOWN TO 550 LP
YUYA YOU GOTTA STEP[ YOUR GAME UP
YUYA GETS RID OF OFF EYES SYNCHRO GATE AND BRINGS OUT ODD EYES XYZ GATE
BRINGS OUT ODD EYES AND DARK REBELLION
HE AND YUTO XYZ SUMMON ODD EYES REBELLION DRAGON
YUYA BANISHES THE THREE MAGIC CARDS HE JUST USED
ODRD GOES UP TO 4000 ATK
YUYA PLAYS THAT ACTION MAGIC CARD FROM BEFORE
WHATEVER HE SAYS HAS REIJI WORRIED AND THE THREE PRECIOUS DARLINGS EXCITED
YOKO AND SHINGO ALSO LOOK HAPPY WITH THIS
AND YUYA GOES IN FOR THE ATTACK
AND…
What the hell happened
Ugh watch those ugly ass monsters still be on the field
OF COURSE
Reiji goes down to 2000 LP but his annoying as is fine besides that
Yuya looks… disappointed? I feel you my dude
OERD goes back down to 3000 ATK
Yuya sets a facedown, ends his turn
Back in LDS, Reira’s still crying
Shuzou’s damn near ready to start crying too; he knows what the stakes are
Reiji draws!
HE GOES IN TO ATTACK ODRD
YUYA ACTIVATES HUS TRAP CARD
NEGATES THE ATTACK
AND ODRD… goes up into the pendulum zone??
It’s there as a scale 4 monster
Shuzou looks so absurdly happy
Me too my guy
Yuya takes his turn!
Yuya brings out another monster
Sets it in the other pendulum zone
So now it’s there, 4 to 12
Yuya pendulum summons!
Odd Eyes Venom Dragon, Odd Eyes Winged Dragon, and a 100 ATK monster and a 1000 ATK monster
But Reiji’s like, “not so fast y’all”
Yuya takes out his 100 ATK monster, brings Odd Eyes back!
Reiji goes in for some attack
Negates it
Grabs an action magic card
AND BY HIS MONSTERS PENDULUM EFFECT
HE BRINGS ALL OF HIS MONSTERS, AND ALL OF REIJI’S MONSTERS, DOWN TO 0 ATK
O…kay I trust you got a play here bby
So there’s some odd visual behind him lol okay
After a lengthy exchange, Yuya… ends his turn, I guess? AND REIJI ANGRILY TKES HIS
HE AND YUYA RACE TO GET AN ACTION CARD
AH FUCK
REIJI GRABBED IT
YUYA’S NOT WORRIED THROUGH
HE CAN ALWAYS GRAB ANOTHER
BUT HIS ROLLAR SKATES BETRAY HIM IN THE WORST WAY, AND REIJI JUST PROCEEDS TO DO WHAT HE DOES BEST: RUIN LIVES.
Reiji… does something, and immediately ends his turn? Okay dude.
Yuya uses Odd Eyes’ head as a springboard, takes his turn??
Grabs an action card!
Takes his turn
And
WHAT’S HAPPENING IN ARC V
I HEARD A HEARDBEAT
REIRA’S REACHING TOWARDS THE CAMERA, LOOKING MIGHTY ALERT…!
REIJI TAKES HIS… TURN? BUT YUYA PLAYS HIS CARD.
Idk what’s happening anymore
I really, really don’t
Reiji keeps saying “watashi no turn!” but he never ends his turn?? And Yuya keeps playing cards during his ‘turn'?? I have never been this confused watching the raw omg
Anyway, on to things I can actually follow
BACK IN ACADEMIA AND ARC V
THE ORB IS GLOWING AND FLASHING DIFFERENT COLORS
EVERYONE WATCHES O IN SUSPENSE
THIS HEARTBEAT ISN’T MAKING THINGS ANY EASIER
REIJI AND YUYA CROSS EACH OTHER
GO FOR THE SAME ACTION CARD
YUYA GOT IT, AND REIJI LOOKS NONE TOO PLEASED
HE PLAYS 5 MAGIC CARDS AT ONCE
ALL OF HIS MONSTERS GO BACK TO THEIR NORMAL ATK
NAH, SCRATCH THAT, THEY’RE ALL LIKE 2000 ATK HIGHER
YUYA HAS ODD EYES GO IN FOR THE ATTACK
BUT REIJI ALSO PLAYS HIS 5 CARDS
HIS MONSTERS GO UP TO LIKE 7000 ATK EACH
OMG JUST END THIS DUEL ALREADY
SHINGO AND GON CHAN LOOK SO HORRIFED
YUYA ACTIVATES HIS 100 ATK MONSTER’S EFFECT; IT BRINGS ODD EYES REBELLION DRAGON BACK AND BRINGS THE 100 ATK MONSTER INTO THE PENDULUM ZONE
ODD EYES AND ODRD MERGE THEIR POWERS?? ODD EYES GOES UP TO 8000 ATK
REIJI TRIES TO USE Z-ONES SPECIAL EFFECT TO DO SOME SHIT, IT DOESN’T WORK
SO HE MOVES ON TO ZORC
AND OFF EYES GOES BACK DOWN TO 2500 ATK
FUCK FUCK FUCK THAT ATK IS STILL GONNA GO THROUGH THOUGH
IS IT…?!
“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN”
Lol nah Yuya’s got this
He’s getting his sparkle on
He takes out both of his pendulum monsters and all the facedowns on both his and Reiji’s fields
All the monsters go back down to their normal attacks
Yuya gets the audience to counts along with him
And he sets off fireworks?? Pretty pretty.
AND THE FIREWORKS MERGE TO CREATE A GIANT PENDULUM
REIRA IS SO. FASCINATED BY THIS.
ODD EYES GOES UP TO 4500 ATK!
AND YUYA HAS ODD EYES GO IN FOR THE ATTACK
REIJI ISN’T WORRIED
UNTIL YUYA BRINGS UP THAT REACTION FORCE
THE ATTACK CONNECTS!
REIJI GOES DOWN TO 0!
YUYA WINS!
*deep breath* Finally.
And Reiji… smiles.
Aw my kikaku bby
And a baby is… laughing in the abject silence
REIRA’S GIGGLING
YAAAAAAAAAAS *PUNCHES A WALL*
So… Reiji holds up Yuya’s wrist
Introduces Yuya as the Pendulum Ds new champion (or something)
Aw yis one of the old themes starts playing
And the Arc V orb is glowing to the max now
And
WHO IS THIS EMERGING
A BEAM OF LIGHT PASSES THROUGH ALL THE DIMENSIONS
Lmao it brings all our folks over to the Pendulum D lol nice
The Orb is in front of them all now
And… all 4 girls pass before their respective boys
Aw nice
AND YUYA
REACHES INTO THE GLOWING ORB
TAKES THE GIRL’S HAND
AND YUZU EMERGES
SHUZOU IS SCREAMING?!
SO ARE THE THREE PRECIOUS DARLINGS
MY GIRL IS BACK
I FEEL LIKE SHOZOU AND GON CHAN RN
THIS. THIS IS BEAUTIFUL.
REIJI TURNS TO HIS PARENTS, WHO ARE STANDING SIDE BY SIDE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 50 YEARS
LEO LOOKS LIKE A NORMAL DUDE FOR ONCE
REIJI LAUGHS HIS EVIL FUCKING LAUGH AT SOMETHING HIS DAD SAYS
I—
Um
Some ratchity old man is shouting
OH LOOK IT’S YUSHO
Lmaoooo he’s hyped
He takes out his duel disk
He’s challenging his kid to a duel
Lmao i feel that
OF COURSE YUYA’S UP TO THE CHALLENGE
“THE FUN HAS JUST BEGUN!”
Perfect.

Honestly, I don't find it terrible , an average anime at best. But I wouldn't hate it half as much if it wasn't for the goddamn fans. And did you see they are releasing a Yurio body pillow.... he's 15 for Christ's sake...
You’re right.
Yuri on Ice, tbh, is a mediocre anime (I.E. in terms of character and plot development). I gave it a 5/10 on MAL. YOI is poorly written (..and animated) and the fact that it apparently took Kubo 4 years is…appalling. I was so excited when the first PV came out, but watching episode 1 was, uh, something. I have seen worse anime, so YOI is not the bottom of the barrel to me. If the fandom wasn’t so outright obnoxious, I would’ve watched the season, kept my opinions to myself, and moved on. As an anti, I am not bashing YOI fans for liking YOI, you can like whatever you want. It becomes a problem, however, when they :
(1) begin bashing other anime that have nothing to do with YOI, in an attempt to make YOI look better (Haikyuu!! And Free! seem to be the main victims. Mob Psycho 100 was, for what it looks like, bashed on for a certain amount of time because of crunchyroll awards).
(2) integrate themselves in every single fandom that has nothing to do with them (example : Figure skating championships. Nathan Chen is not Yuuri Katsuki. Nathan Chen is Nathan Chen. Stop it.)
(3) crucify anyone (including fans) who have even a tiny bit of criticism towards the show. They do the absolute most trying to defend the show with ridiculous meta, it actually makes YOI and the fandom look worse, IMO. If anything it shows how insecure they are, since apparently 100% of people who watched YOI must like it-or else.  At such lengths they go to “protect” it, they prove again and again that the anime wasn’t as #revolutionary as they claim it to be. Maybe they’re in denial. That being said, please refrain from reaching, fandom, you look ridiculous. Accept the flaws, or keep scrolling. Better yet, blacklist, as you love to tell other people when you invade their fandoms. P.S. Death threats are stupid and does not make you look better. Y'all need Jesus and Therapy. The hell is wrong with you guys?
(4) Maintain the superiority complex. YOI is not the gospel. “Kubo-sensei” is not a “pure” woman who saved the Earth. She is (apparently) a writer who wrote a fanfic that got popular. Popularity ≠ Good Quality. The show and y'all personalities are trash. For more info on Kubo, I believe fellow tumblr user @saotome-michi has all the receipts on her blog. That’s like a whole story on it’s own lmao *sigh*
(5) Set the main ship as relationship goals. Trust me, it is not. This is not Disney, you are not Cinderella. Wake up.
I am an anti, yes, but I’m more anti (yoi) fandom than anything. They cause more problems in the name of YOI, looking like a bunch of idiotic YOI Crusaders, so it makes the anime look worse. When you see the fandom vs the anime, it’s really not that good. The unnecessary hype makes them look very delusional. It kind of reminds me of 2015 when everyone was screaming “WATCH SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN!!!!!!!! OMFG IT’S THE BEST THING EVER” and I watched it and…?? It’s a good show but I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece. It’s not like SNK did anything spectacularly different from all the other post-apocalyptic type shows (no hard feelings SNK fans) The openings were straight fire tho. If there was no fandom (or at least not this current behavior) the show would’ve been fine, it’s whatever. Now I can’t even think of ice skating without making a face.
What I think the fandom fails to realize is that criticism doesn’t necessarily mean hating (unlike what they do to other fandoms). I am criticizing because I actually liked YOI (keyword: liked). If I did not care about YOI at all, I would not have a strong opinion to be even receiving this ask (thanks by the way💗). I am on the anti side because I believe YOI had the potential to be a great anime, but fell short (waayyy short. I mean, wtf was that?). I feel that I, and other anti yoi members, were scammed, cheated, bamboozled, hoodwinked, robbed, you naammmee it. Serious sports anime where??????? The only thing serious about Yuri on Ice is the blatant flaws and toxic fandom it somehow produced. I blame trump.
It also doesn’t help that there are 20+, 30+ year olds in the fandom acting like this. How are you a grown adult acting like a 12 year old fangirl of a crappy boy band? Not trying to be confrontational, but…?????? Y'all don’t got work, school, maybe kids?????? Parties?????? Something way more important than this? Hello get those priorities in check please
30 minutes into writing this I noticed the second half of your question, lmao. I didn’t know, actually. I stay away from the main tags. I think I just cringed thinking of things people would do to that body pillow…

That one ice skating anime that took over the world. (And my thoughts on it, because I had to let them out.)
Ajdkhgkh it took me forever to get to here, honestly. I forgot when the last ep of Yuri on Ice even aired? Was it two or three weeks ago? Well, it isn‘t as important, I suppose. Before I delve into my thoughts, I just want to say one thing, though: this is my blog, and this is my opinion. You are allowed to agree or disagree with it, but I ask one thing of you - please be respectful when/if you state your opinion. I won‘t go flaming or bitching over anyone here, and I‘d like to expect the same courtesy back. Thank you!
This has been a trip. At first I‘ve thought I‘d never go through watching this anime at all because the toxicity and negative opinions of a few members of fanbase that I had on my previous blog‘s dash completely turned me off; it got seriously out of control. I literally had no idea how it turned into YOI hate place, and... quite frankly, I hated it; I didn‘t need it, I didn‘t ask for it, neither did I sign up for it. It got far enough for me to block the whole tag altogether for a little while and stop thinking about anime altogether. Which is sad. Because, despite how many flaws the anime does have and I will not deny them/will touch upon them shortly, there is still a sweet and beautiful story hidden within it. There‘re a few aspects of it that could definitely be executed differently, and better, but... I grew to like it, despite its flaws thanks to a few wonderful people on my new dash that raised my interest back and made me love it all over again. I thank you for that, guys! I‘m glad I gave it another chance.
The first couple of episodes definitely hook you up; Yuuri, despite being quite a typical anime protagonist, with his upbeat voice and slightly hilarious personality grows to your heart rather quickly. It‘s really easy to feel for him in these eps, and it‘s really easy to sympathise with him, and how he feels in regards of his skating career, Viktor, and himself. However, I will not ever deny that I did not like Yuuri one bit for a little long after those first couple of eps passed. I do not know if it was because how quick-paced the anime got all of a sudden - his fears, his emotions, his mind process couldn‘t get through and to me no matter what. And I did try to like him, I did try to sympathise, I did try to see what the authors wanted to portray. But I just couldn‘t.
There are many flaws in this anime (with portrayal of Yuuri‘s fears in next ep or two being one of them), but this one was particularly apparent to me - the pace. Everything, every single episode after the third one was just too quick for me to follow; too many characters introduced at once, and I couldn‘t, for the love of anything, get to know them as much as I wanted to or should have. It all took quite a bit of time to settle down, and quite a bit of thought collecting to understand. But despite all that? I still grew to love the anime all the same. Especially because I did grow used to the pace although I did wish for a slower one, and perhaps a filler ep or two of showing what happened between these tournaments so I could feel with these characters more, and sympathise with them more.
Now, you‘re probably wondering why am I bringing up all the negative points if I still loved it so much - my answer to that is simple. I‘m bringing them up because I know they‘re there. I know it isn‘t perfect, and in a lot of ways it didn‘t meet my expectations or made me understand where the whole hype train for it came from. I‘m not going to say this anime‘s the best of the best, because it‘s not. But what I‘ll say is that‘s definitely a very enjoyable and sweet, if you‘re ready to look past its flaws. And I am, and I was.
Anyways, on the matter of Yuuri - I was quite concerned about how this will go through, and if I‘ll even be able to like him after again. My SO, who watched the anime with me, kept me up to date on where should I be careful, and might find him slightly irritating, if I may say so. It was quite amusing, though, because where they‘d told me I‘ll be the most annoyed with him, I actually liked him the most - it was the scene on that (underground?) parking lot, where Victor tells him he‘s going to quit being his coach if he doesn‘t perform up to standards. I‘m not sure which ep that was, I‘m sorry guys! That‘s where the authors, in my opinion, hit the right buttons for me. Up until then, I didn‘t feel Yuuri‘s anxiety and fears, and well as concerns at all, let alone his performances as skater. But after that? It‘s plain as day for me; his performances defnitely shifted around. And all I could think was FINALLY, I‘m able to love this boy (again). Perhaps I was just always a little too harsh on him altogether, expected too much, - but it was really good to see him finally open up and share his fears with the one he‘s supposed to trust the most. Ever since then? He was way easier to watch, and way easier to understand. And now I can proudly say I love him quite a lot. He‘s matured afterwards; it‘s a slow process, but it‘s definitely there.
I‘ll touch upon russian Yuri second, because I have quite a bit of baggage to drop for Victor, but only a few words for this boy. He‘s been my favorite since very beginning, and it stayed so until last. It was beyond beautiful to see him grow into what he was at the end of the series; I love how he kept his grump. It‘s what makes him, him. And I just, love him a lot haha. (BUT SERIOUSLY, WHAT‘S WITH THAT ROMANTIC RANDOM SCENE WITH OTABEK HAHA. It was so cute, don‘t get me wrong. But def a smart shipbait! I mean, I love those two together all the same anyway.~)
Now my dear Victor... I honestly, and truly won‘t ever understand where did all the hate for him come from. Just like any other character in the series, he‘s just a man. With quite a personality, but he‘s h-u-m-a-n, and I‘ll stress that out to everyone. I can understand some may not like him for that, though, I suppose. It‘s really hard to read people who‘re generally desplayed as mysterious, upbeat and cheerful and just outright hilarious (if you ask me, though, part of this was made for a sole purpose of him being somewhat like a comic relief, but there‘s definitely a layer or two besides that).
But like, through each and every ep, I could see him genuinely care for Yuuri (in his own way, but it was there)? He gave him advice (because he knew Yuuri more than anyone else) and Yuuri decided to diss them outright, he dragged him away when he was feeling stressed, he slept on him so he couldn‘t get up and get some rest, he covered his ears so he wouldn‘t listen and rise his anxiety up further - I remember reading a lot of shit thrown at him after he threw an ultimatum at Yuuri about how he wanted to quit being his coach -- but honestly, if you watched closely, if you observed every scene before that one, you could see that was the only thing he could do or think of that he did not do already.
You must understand he is not a professional counsellor, and he did not sign up to be one. He signed up to be a professional ice skating coach, and he had standards to uphold. Besides that, if we just see him as Yuuri‘s boyfriend, he‘s human. He tried everything, and nothing got through Yuuri. So the last thing he thought about is shattering that little that was left (perhaps a wall Yuuri built around himself) -- and guess what, despite some may call it ‚manipulative‘ or ‚abusive‘, it worked on Yuuri. He opened up. He cried. He finally let out everything that worried him. That‘s the most important thing that happened there, more important than how his words came across to some of the watchers (it‘s still all individual‘s interpretation), more important than nitpicking them. He opened up to him. He told him exactly what he wants. And did Victor give him anything else? No. He gave him what was asked of him. It may not have been the perfect confrontation, it may have hurt as hell, but in my opinion, it had to be done. Again, a lot of this would be better and clearer if the series actually showed how much they trained together and everything Victor gave out for Yuuri in that training. But a lot of that was skipped out in favor to progress the series faster, so I can understand how some people could not see the development that happened between.
A lot of hate discussions I happened to read back then were also based on his broken promise to Yuri. If you ask me, he never forgot about it. In my opinion, he‘s too smart to forget about something like that. He may not have been next to Yuri as he said he would be, he may not have watched his every step, but the way I‘ve seen it was that he knew Yuri could do just fine without him/would do even better if he wasn‘t there, next to him. He knew he was strong enough; capable enough. And he knew his debut would be great and it was in the end. He was able to pull it off. Perhaps that‘s just my view on this, and I may as well be wrong - but I‘m absolutely certain he did not just forget about him out there. Episode 10 shows fairly well how much he knows all the skaters - I‘m sure he knew Yuri quite well, as well. I also would like to touch upon the scene that did, indeed, shake me up a little bit (and has again gained Victor lots of hate again, haha). I‘ll say I do not agree with it (though Yuri did kick Victor a few times quite hard himself); the reaction could‘ve as weel been very different; Victor could‘ve taken another route. But in my opinion, this one lays on the writers themselves. It was exectured very poorly, indeed. However, I think what they wanted to represent with it way one of the Victor‘s flaws/the way he can be if someone pisses him off very much. Again, could‘ve been executed a lot better, and maybe they should‘ve taken a different route for this one. But I won‘t defend Victor on this action - I believe, as an adult, he should‘ve taken another route. (We can‘t always get what we want though, and sometimes must accept what we get instead. Will this scene make me love Victor less, though? Likely not. I wanna clarify though, again. I do not support force as an educational action. However, we all know it‘s there; sometimes it can be inevitable. And with that I mean when somebody really messes up - or, I dunno. Perhaps this is just Eastern outlook, though. As someone who comes from one of the Slavic countries and was raised on a few principles that could indeed be questionable elsewhere, I can say I can partly understand Victor here. But then none of the series is truly based on the real world so?? That probably shouldn‘t be an excuse to make for him here.)
Holy cow, this is getting long, but I suppose I have a lot to say here, though I do think I‘ve covered most of the main points here. Perhaps I could stop by the Victuuri as a ship, and if their relationship is toxic and unhealthy or not. I honestly didn‘t see it as unhealthy (again, my opinion here). More than that, I‘ve probably seen it as a little unrealistic - but beautiful nevertheless. I MEAN, IT‘S FICTION IN THE END. I do not think Yuuri was the one who was dependant on Victor (maybe he was, but only at the begginig) - I think it was actually the other way around, mainly because I believe Victor ran away from all the pressure, from all the expectations he got from all over the world, from everything he had to get through by his own self through all these years to find the love for skating he once had. Yuuri was his solace, his safe haven. And I think I‘m allowed to find that beautiful. Meanwhile, he was a good influence on Yuuri - he gave him that strength he lacked and faith in himself and his abilities, he helped him grow; helped him (partly) overcome his anxiety at least. In the end it wasn‘t just some kind of an unhealthy obsession - if he had to, I strongly believe he‘d do just fine without Victor at this point (but he doesn‘t have to). They both have their strengths and weaknesses, and they balance each other out. And what I love the most out of it all? There‘s no OMFG I‘M GAY WHAT IF HE HATES ME FOR THAT; OMFG HE’D NEVER LOOK AT ME THAT WAY AHHH; OMFG WHAT IF WORLD HATES ME FOR IT stuff that‘s overused in BL content/fetishised in a lot of writing I see around. And man, that‘s refreshing as hell.
