i'm going to be so honest but i'm getting to the point that i don't trust it when people tell me they support disabled people (visibly and/or invisibly). it feels so disingenuous (i think that's the word i want). like it's just something said because there's a social pressure to say it so that they look like a Good Person(TM). and it doesn't hurt to say that they support disabled people. but then like... i've been met with so much interaction with people who say they support disabled people only for them to not actually. like they support the idea of us. they support the concept of us. they support us so long as we don't inconvenience their lives too much (side note: so many of us try to be self sufficient because we have been told our entire lives that we are a burden). they support us so long as they can get a pat on the back and a gold star for doing a community service. they support us so long as we're okay with being the butt of their jokes, silent or otherwise.

and to make it worse, if you want to keep your disability to yourself and close to your chest because you're used to this kind of bullshit but you still identify as disabled, you're met with this demand to wear your diagnoses and if you don't then you're told that you're faking. or that means you're not disabled enough. or that means you're ashamed of your disability so you're actually ableist in some mental olympic gymnastic uno reverse shit.

like, my disability is not a tacky velour suit with "Princess" glued in rhinestones across the ass and none of us are getting first, second or third prizes. we all just want to be treated as humans and given respect but respect for disabled people is actually such an inconvenience to abled people that, really, we should just be kissing ass for the scraps that we get. because at least the scraps are better in the 2020s than they were in the 2010s, the 2000s, or any other decade before that. and, at the end of the day, isn't slightly less disrespect still progress?
