Too many wips.. thats what I have rn.. too many...

WJBFJEBF so the ones I'm most focusing on rn is the spiderman! Donovan/royce au!! So far I wrote the whole exposition and I'm working on the 'enticing incident' LMFAO it's upgraded from my last summary so I have more to write because I'm insane but yeah! It's the one I want done the most but I'm also gonna go on a trip with my buds to this place without wifi for like? Four days so 😭 I might have to finish it there and wait forever until I can post it! And I'm still unsure about the ending!!! THE STRUGGLE

a shorter fic I have in mind still is the russell waiting for kd at a table for two but he never shows up fic! I just really like writing russell widjsbf but not much action happens there! Many just dialogue and a lot of pg fashion/life roasting from Russell's inner dialogue. He's very judgemental of people who give off douchebag frat bro vibes but can't help but feel intrigued by them JABFJWB oh and he makes fun of pg simping for gold diggers

The fics I have written partly but put back in the burner are my donovan/jaylen fic, marcus/giannis, pg/kawhi jealousy fic, pg/kawhi sm*t fic, pg/kawhi space au, and john/trae patroclus and Achilles au! Mainly because they're super long and I get nervous about writing them too much and wasting all my muse on one thing, so I get scared and back off 😭 but I'll tell u the basic summary of them!!

💙 donovan/jaylen fic is based off the idea of donovan going grocery shopping and getting all mad at the thought of the clippers LMFAO. Basically he's at a grocery store getting flowers for his sports medicine doctor for always putting up with his bullshit (never wanting to sit down and relax so he can actually heal. Playing through the pain). But as he shops, he keeps finding the simplest shit that reminds him of the clippers. Like he sees a claw machine and thinks about Kawhi and how collected that guy is, just chillin in the upper stands, while his team is facing a possible defeat. Donny gets all frustrated because like?? He can't just do that? Just sit back and chill while his team is playing without him? Donny HAS to help, has to GET OUT THERE!! kawhi Doesn't... but kawhi is the one who won a championship. And donovan starts doubting his leadership skills and if he's really good for his team.. if he let them down by being Too pushy and Too in their faces.

+ and then when he's getting a cute card to go with the flowers, he spots one that says "you're the man!!" And he thinks about terance Mann and his great game against them, how proud pg, basically his mentor, was of him. And it makes donovan think about his loss and how he couldn't get that same pride out of Dwyane Wade.

Overall, everything makes him feel useless af and he almost kicks a shelf out of anger. But he calms himself down and goes back to the flowers because he actually only got this little dinky green plant still struggling to bloom? He got it for himself because he felt bad for it LMAO but he still needs to get flowers for his sports medicine doctor. He's goes back to the flower section and who does he see? JAYLEN BROWN all gussied up in his depression fit LMFAO.. but they both are. Jaylen and him try to joke but they're both tired and awkward so it sucks IABDKSBD they basically just ask what the other is doing there. Jaylen is just traveling rn because he got nothin else to do IWBDKS but he bought Deuce a souvenir gift! And he asks Donovan if he can help him put it in his trunk (but really he doesn't need donovan's help. He can pick the toy up himself. He just knows that Donovan is too stubborn to accept help when he needs it but he'll always try helping others out! So he wants donny to think he's helping jaylen but in reality jaylen is trying to help HIm because at the car he invites Donovan to go meet up at a hotel with him where they kiss and have sad *** to make themselves feel better WKBFKSBX) that's basically it!!!! I have literally everything written but the *** scene they're literally my weakness.. I love the emotions they make but I hate.. describing the actions it takes to make them?? Idk I just feel cheesy writing it? It's very tedious and boring to actually crank my brain for a synonym to 'moan' because I'm tired of using that word but it's the only word that really applies to that situation without sounding weird, yknow?? Just very tedious

💙💙💙 OK so marcus/giannis idk bro like... it's just taking so long IWBKENF idk what to say except giannis makes a ton of small jokes at marcus

💙💙 OK so pg/kawhi jealousy fic... BASICALLY the plot is LeBron hosts some big rich guy party for the NBA because I need a reason to write all these people that live far apart interacting together OKAY??? But anyways it takes place after 2020 lakers winning the championship! Pg convince the clippers to come or else they'll look bad for being the only team not coming and they media will have a field day with them, so the clippers join the party. Basically everyone who later team up in 2021 are talking to eachother LMFAO like James hardon+kyrie+kd are talking while russell westbrook and beal are bonding over dance moves with a jealous John wall pouting in the corner. Obligatory Marcus and giannis interactions because I can. Kyle and demar are laughing together. It's all goood until LeBron waltzes over with his weird ass feet and starts talking to kawhi. Hes being all Handsome and Strong and lowkey flexing his win. Its starting to make pg suspicious so he keeps intruding upon the conversation. His inner dialogue is basically a ton of lebron hate KABFKWB. LeBron sometimes comments back to pg but ends up kinda tuning him outta the conversation and sly dissing him to kawhi like "how does it feel talking to someone who doesn't hit the side of the backboard lol"

Pg is starting to get nervous because he's trying to compete against LEBRON over who's the better teammate for kawhi.. and with his current playoff history.. he's not gonna win. He keeps trying to get kawhi out of the conversation, but lebron keeps drawing him back in and pg ends up giving up or he risks looking like an overbearing girlfriend.. So he slinks off in hopes of distracting himself. Originally, pg thought KAWHI would be the one standing all alone awkwardly in the room with no one to talk to, but it's slowly becoming HIM who's the lonely one LMFAO. He tries joining in bradley and Russ's conversation because HEY!! Everybody leaves russ! Russ must be SUUUPER lonely and DESPERATE for someone to talk to him‼ especially when his old ex durant is out there plotting with his two hydra heads!! paul thought, anyways, but finds out russ is actually having the time of his life clowning around with beal !! That just makes pg even more envious and he walks away with zero satisfaction of feeling superior JABDJSB he tries talking to John wall like "this party fuckin sucks bro" but John kinda barks at him and pg gives up. He tries talking to marcus and giannis but that was a mistake because the two smartiest smartasses in the room start roasting him together so he's shunned back to pretending like he's getting 700 thirsty women in his dms, AKA pretending like he got a text on his phone while he leans alone on a wall LMFAO. After glancing up periodically (and casually) to see if kawhi is still talking to lebron, he later gives up on playing popular and goes to hide in the bathroom like a fucking loser WHDJBFJEBD in summary he kinda broods and steams about how much he hates lebron and how he's 'so much better than him' and he's just thinking of petty insults against him to try and convince the kawhi in his mind not to leave him for lebron. He gets really mad and punches a mirror, but thank God lebron is playing bass boosted music so no one at the party hears it.

But, demar ends up knocking on the door. He needs to shit. So pg is like.. what do I do with this broken mirror and my bleeding hand.. so he tries to keep demar out and they banter and eventually demar notices its kinda weird for pg to be huddled up in the bathroom instead of partying.. he must be getting high or smthin. So he's like "that's fucking stupid. He can go get high in one of lebrons 700 rooms. Why The bathroom." So he just opens the door LANKDN and sees The Scene.

At first he's like "are u paying for that.." to which pg responds with "uhhh. I tripped and hit my head on it" (while clutching a bleeding fist) but then he realizes OHHH pg must be ... OH is he.. no.. he can't be limp wristed... blah blah they end up bonding over their funny situations: demar being jealous of kawhi and feeling like kyle thinks he sucks because of him. Pg being jealous of lebron and feeling like kawhi thinks he sucks because of him. Blah blah it's a bittersweet ending pg becomes a little less of a jerk blah blah I haven't finished it because I'm stupid and WEAK

Rin has been my favorite AnE character since the beginning. Such a sweet guy, and an interesting take on the traditional Idiot Hero. I like Kato's take on several of the Shonen manga archetypes for that matter. What are some of your favorite reconstructions of familiar character types in AnE?

Hey Anon! To be honest, I can’t say I’m that aware of the usual shonen archetypes considering that I read seinen more. :) And I’m not a literary reference, so it’s kinda hard to use the right words too.

That being said, Rin’s a fave too, with Mephisto, Shiro, Shura, Shiemi… and the rest of the cast. xDD So I’ll try to answer you.

For Rin, I like how he doesn’t simply get stronger with each arc, but he grows up on many aspects at once. Sure, first he learnt to control his flames, then he learnt to focus his attacks, and then his sword was broken in ch98 destroying the seals over his power, but otherwise each arc gave Rin other things to focus on.

In fact, I like that it’s not just his nature as a demon that he has to deal with, but also the consequences of that with the people around him. Like, as the story begins, we see Rin as kind of a loner, because he tries to fit in but can’t.

So having friends (and falling for Shiemi) was a really new experience for him, one he’s enjoying but that he still has to learn about sometimes:

And as he’s getting better with that, that’s when the one constant in his life so far…

shatters. Mostly though, I love Rin because he’s… so sweet, as you said.

Initially, he was presented as your usual Shonen hero indeed, especially with his goal to defeat Satan after Shiro’s death, but slowly the whole story moves on from that. That goal of his is less and less mentioned (which is not typical of usual shonen heroes who tend to cling to their goals in my opinion) as Rin is simply going through life and now…

And in my opinion we went from “beating Satan’s ass” to…

…a slight difference I really enjoy, even I’m no fan of Satan (and I want to see him lose).

Similarly for Yukio, who’s as much a main character as Rin is, his angst defies usual levels you have for characters of a similar type and what I love is that it’s really building up throughout the whole story: Shura showed signs of having noticed it before Toudou was introduced, we found out that he was already preoccupied back when Shiro was still alive (ch93), up till his own despair and pure self-loathing got the better of him.

And I really feel for him and his illustration of the “fallen angel” trope. I mean, I’m the first to say it’s easy to roll your eyes and hope that he’ll stop seeing everything in the darkest black, but it’s the slow unravelling to this state through so many arcs that makes it so impressive and seemingly impossible to solve at the moment.

A lot will probably have to happen before he’ll manage to come back.

The thing is, we all knew Yukio was going to break down at some point. He got some sort of a recess with the Aomori arc, but before we eventually reached the anti hero/fallen angel level, we passed by attempted suicide and that gave a whole new tone to the manga (especially since it’s shonen) in my opinion.

I said before that there is a lot of cliché tropes about twins in manga that I don’t really like: the good twin/bad twin trope is one, but by showing us the extent of Yukio’s issues before he completely fell into the abyss, I find that Sensei is avoiding cliché once again.

And both for Yukio and Rin, I like that romance took a more unexpected turn that one could have expected at first, at least in my opinion. :)

Moving onto Mephisto, I love the fact that he’s both literally The Chessmaster…

and incredibly powerful as Samael, but his behavior most of the time doesn’t reflect that.

…Which is usually the case with the clown type (looking at UT in Kuroshitsuji, or Checkerface in KHR, same for the Clowns in TG even if it’s Seinen), so this part isn’t exactly surprising, but it’s more how his true nature was never exactly hidden and yet he can still completely surprise us on many things.

That’s why I really enjoy the theory that he might be the big bad, as far as the twins are concerned, because knowing he’s on Assiah’s side, you tend to think that even if he’s an ass at least he’s on “our” side, when it might be more complicated than that. :)

Plenty of others reasons to appreciate Mephy’s character though, as I shared here. :)

For Shura, it’s mostly a matter of contrast. She’s The Mentor, but she’s not particularly acting responsible otherwise (due to the thing with Hachiro), because her motivations are initially related to her own pet peeve (Shiro).

She’s also without a doubt the hottest girl of the whole series (not a big fan of Iblis and her three eyes personally) and yet her behavior once again doesn’t fit what you’d expect of this kind of characters in other shonen series, again just in my opinion.

She’s not a dignified or proper lady, who bats an eyelash and everyone is wooed, or who behaves coldly/unaffected to others: she used to be a heavy drinker, she’s hardly ever serious, she loves getting on people’s nerves on purpose, etc.

Again, this is related to her issues with Hachiro (and Shiro), but I like that the fact she’s Hot™ (trademarked by Mephisto) doesn’t mean she can’t be powerful, or Rin’s mentor, or getting on people’s nerves, or insulting her superiors, etc.

Just like I enjoy the fact that she can dress scantily (probably because she likes it) and that doesn’t mean she’s a hoe or only about fan service, as we could see Shiro lecture her on the subject, in ch78.

Maybe I’m not explaining super well, but it’s really about Sensei not being too over the top with any character and that shows up in Shura as well:

she’s Rin’s mentor but sometimes she’s at a loss with what to do;

she’ll do anything to protect the twins but she still gets scared by Mephisto’s shenanigans;

she’s older than the boys but she still needed their help with an issue even Shiro couldn’t help her with

after the Aomori arc, she started to act more mature in general because the twins are going to need her, etc.

Again, it’s really a thing for most of the cast, but I like it even more in Shura’s case, because, even with just the way she dresses as an example, she really could have been a shallow character but Sensei managed to weigh in everything properly.

Now, as far as Shiro goes, I love how Sensei deconstructed his character through several flashbacks, slowly shedding his coat of “the perfect dad” he seemed to be after sacrificing himself to save Rin in ch1.

Oh sure, he was a good parent, but not perfect as we can see with Yukio or even Shura and that is something that we needed to make clear, both for the plot but also for the twins’ sake.

Speaking of the plot, I like that Shiro’s a walking mystery very plot-relevant and not just The Hero’s Father Figure Who Died Helplessly. It would have been very easy to make Shiro a symbol Rin was becoming stronger to get revenge for, but it’s about so much more than that.

Because if Shiro is a symbol of anything, it’s about how the Order is full of bullshit and enslaving the pawns that are necessary to them…

…as Mephisto made sure we got right:

Even now that he’s dead, I have doubts about Shiro being free from whatever he’s supposed to owe the Order/Mephisto. So yeah, he’s so much more than the Dead Symbolic Hero or whatever trope he’s supposed to illustrate, in a very tragic way actually, and I love that!

And finally about Shiemi (because I really gotta stop somewhere), what can I say besides the fact that she’s a very surprising one. :D

We’ve been getting many character arcs ever since the beginning and yet it was so unexpected to me when it turned out she was going to have her own and that it’d be so very main plot-relevant. It shouldn’t have been a surprise, since everyone in the main cast gets one, but I still definitely wasn’t envisioning anything at all like the theories about Shemihaza before we hit the current arc!

Other examples of why she’s kept on surprising me throughout the story: the first time we meet her, she’s this helpless and mourning girl who’s been possessed by a demon, then she gets used by Izumo upon trying to make friends. I’m sure you remember that girl.

And yet she saved Paku and then everyone else in Neuhaus’ arc immediately after. Same in the Kyoto arc: she was as pissed and scared as everyone (not counting Izumo) about Rin’s origins, but she was the first who managed to admit how misguided she was when she realized how much he suffered about being different.

What I’m trying to say is that Shiemi constantly surprised me and also other characters in the story (for example), despite the fact that Sensei wrote plainly what her character was about very early on in the story:

So yeah actually she helped Paku, she helped Rin, she helped Izumo, she tried to help Yukio, she saved everyone from being burnt by Rin going Satan 2.0… And now she’s in trouble with the Vatican.

In a way she’s more the typical Shonen Hero than Rin is, when she’s supposed to be the Main Girl, lmao. For example, everyone found out about who Rin was pretty quickly in the story, meanwhile…

…her own identity is more of a secret than Rin being Satan’s son or Mephisto being a high-level demon and something both characters and readers are getting angsty about.

And, as I tried to explain above, Rin’s currently more involved with acknowledging where he comes from and bringing his brother back over having to save the world or denouncing that the Order is probably really no better than the Illuminati.

Even his goal of defeating Satan, which is very Shonen-like, hasn’t been mentioned in a long time now. Meanwhile Shiemi’s character arc directly delves into how shady the Order is as an organization…

and this might indirectly lead us to her having to play a very important role with protecting everyone from Satan/the Illuminati (whether it’s by her will or not).

Of course, Rin’s own journey in the past is showing us many of the Order’s dirty secrets but the point is for Rin to learn about the past so that he can bring Yukio back (what he wants) and possibly defeat Lucifer (what Mephisto wants). When it comes to the state of the world with the opening of the artificial Gehenna gate, for now it’s not exactly Rin’s problem, but it might be more related to Shiemi’s arc if she’s truly related to Shemihaza (because of the Grigoris).

It’s probably badly summarized, but that’s how I see it. xD As I said in the beginning, I’m really not good about precisely describing shonen archetypes, so this may not be making any point. I just like AnE because I find that Sensei does manage to avoid making her characters a bunch of stereotypes easy to read through, in a very realistic way. See below, with Lightning’s example:

Even Arthur, who’s presented as the most stereotypical dude in the whole cast in my opinion, might be hiding his game better than most of us can probably imagine.

That’s what I like the most when it comes to what you were asking about. :) Kato-sensei is an excellent writer because of this amongst other things.

BnHA Chapter 208: [S] Bakugou: Win and rescue.

Previously on BnHA: Teams BakuJirouSeroSatou and TokaBondoAwaKama began the 4th round battle. Over on the sidelines, Aizawa chided his students for not being as strategic as class B, while All Might said that class A hadn’t yet shown everything they were capable of. Anyway, so Bakugou’s strategy consisted of “let’s just charge at them while Jirou keeps an ear out”, which predictably resulted in them running into an ambush. Class B’s Bondo used his glue quirk to try and entrap the group, but Bakugou stopped him, which was fairly impressive considering that he was also battling Tokage’s various amputated body parts which were all attacking him like Buggy the Clown because quirks are fucking absurd you guys. Anyway, so then Kamakiri from class B dove in to attack Jirou. But as All Might and Deku looked on, thinking flashbacky thoughts about the whole “win by saving people and save people in order to win” thing, Bakugou dove in to intercept Kamakiri’s attack.

Today on BnHA: We learned that Bakugou’s strategy of “let’s just kick their asses” also included a supplemental strategy of “and if you guys get in trouble I’ll save you.” Everyone on the sidelines is like “whaaaaat!” and Monoma nearly has an aneurysm, poor kid. Bakugou says he wants a perfect victory, meaning 4-0 with everyone unscathed. He heads after the fleeing Bondo, only to be ensnared in a trap by Awase. But then Satou busts him free, and we learn that Bakugou’s plan also included a second supplemental strategy of “and if I’m in trouble you guys save me.” In short, this kid has finally learned teamwork, and within the span of about two minutes, Sero and Jirou take out Awase, Satou restrains Bondo, Bakugou KOs Kamakiri, and then with the help of the others -- using Sero’s tape and his grenades -- he takes out Tokage as well. Anyways, you guys know I don’t like to exaggerate, but this is the best chapter in the history of time, and now if you’ll excuse me I’m off to go pick up my “Congrats on winning the manga, son, you make me proud each and every day” cake. Peace.

(As always, all comments not marked with an ETA are my mostly-unspoiled reactions from my first readthrough of this chapter. I’m caught up with the manga now at chapter 224, so any ETAs will reflect that.)

wow, seeing it from this angle I can appreciate just how close that was. Bakugou had to blast himself in between Kama and Jirou with incredible precision and with barely any time to think, let alone pull it off. Satou didn’t even manage to turn around in the same span of time

not to mention from this view you can see how close-range that shot actually was. like how is Kamakiri even alive

you know. because explosions are famously weak against swords

also, “concludes”? already?? like, we’ve barely even gotten started. damn Bakugou, do you have an appointment or something after this? is your coach going to turn back into a pumpkin or what

so the saving them part was so important you went and made it an Official Part Of Your Plan, huh. wow. when this kid commits to something, he fucking commits

but we already knew that, didn’t we. he has always been like that. putting 100% into everything. aiming for the top. it’s just that for the first time, we’re seeing that determination aimed in the right direction. or well, not to say that he was aiming in the wrong direction before, but it’s more like his destination was a bit too narrow-minded. and now he’s finally seeing the full picture of what a hero needs to be, the kind of person he needs to become. so now, imagine this tenacity applied toward the aim of keeping the world safe. he is gonna do it. people will know that’s a fucking promise. that is how you become someone that people can put their trust in

basically this boy is going to kill it when it comes to heroing. this chapter has barely even started and already I’m so fucking proud. future numero uno right here. the Symbol of Victory. fuck yeah

anyway I should stop gushing over Bakugou’s character development so I can finish the chapter. I’m sure I’ll break down like six more times to gush some more anyway. probably

so Bakugou is all “you blocked it, eh?” in that manner of his that’s both acknowledging and insulting

yeah Bakugou. he blocked it with a sword. you know. how swords do. I’m sorry, I still can’t get over this lol. it’s like a medieval knight against a fucking bazooka

but anyway, so when in doubt, simply blow them up again right?

lol now that’s more like it. “you blocked it” smdh. for fuck’s sake

lol now Kama is turning tail and thinking “avoid fighting Bakugou head-on. if that happens, retreat immediately!”

and yeah, that’s a valid strategy

(ETA: thank you @asukaskerian for pointing out that this is referring to him shoving Jirou out of the way with his foot in the previous chapter. I swear I reread that half a dozen times trying to see if he kicked Kamakiri and it never even occurred to me that it might’ve been Jirou instead lol.)

and second, what exactly is your angle here, Monoma? are you attempting to mock Bakugou for... doing the right thing? being a good person?? did he throw you for a loop. do you need a moment to collect yourself

every now and then this kid just blows me away though. like, obviously he knows there’s nothing wrong with Monoma’s eyes! so a line like “your eyes are working fine” would normally carry an undercurrent of passive-aggressiveness in a situation like this! you know, like “okay but that’s my bro, dude. so if you’re about to try and make fun of his hard-earned character development, I’m gonna need you to step the fuck off right now”

but because it’s Kirishima, he somehow impossibly manages to deliver this line without any bitchiness. he’s defending Bakugou while at the same time subtly telling Monoma to back down, but somehow he still keeps everything friendly. this is genuinely amazing to me, and I’m sincerely jealous of how effortless he makes this look

okay I’m starting to think he may not actually have had an angle and his entire worldview has in fact just been shattered

it’s okay Monoma, you can still maintain your beloved rivalry with class A even if they are actually lovely people who have been nothing but kind to you and now even their last bastion of ill-mannered and bratty behavior is turning out to be an upstanding citizen. a little friendly competition never hurt anyone

I still want Bakugou to have a gets-hurt-saving-someone moment also, but so far he’s been too damn competent. still, the dream is alive! I love this manga

anyway! so back to the boy in question!

Jirou is all “thanks” and he’s all “shut your mouth!” lmao

see, you have to be able to speak Bakugou. what he means is “forget about it, just stay focused.” which they know! doesn’t mean they can’t still get annoyed by it, of course, but his classmates understand him by this point I think

look at their faces. “a hero is someone who brings reassurance.” well I don’t know what you would call this, but I’d say they all look pretty damn assured right now

and yet, the tiny beads of sweat. because there’s always that flash of hesitation that’s like “oh no, I’m being inspired by Bakugou. is this okay. quick, moral alignment check. we still good?”

but once they realize that yeah, they are, they can’t help but feel the same excitement as him. fuck yeah, let’s do this. let’s beat this challenge. let’s win the day. let’s get stronger

(ETA: and this is also what I was talking about yesterday about his smile being contagious. because it is, though. and also do you remember way back in chapter 106 when Aizawa was talking about how he and Deku inspire the rest of the class and get them all hyped up? about how “they infected the rest of the class with their passion and fervor”? fucking this, though. I love this so much.)

this is not actually a strategy. this is them straight up acknowledging they can’t beat Bakugou and saying “well we’ll just keep trying and hope it works out”

and what bits of strategy they do have appear to be entirely focused on him only

like, this doesn’t even make sense. first of all, the fact that they’re following his lead is a strength, not a weakness. every good combat unit needs a leader. in fact I’d argue that was something the previous class A teams messed up to some degree

and second, just because he is leading them though doesn’t mean they’ll just fall apart without him. if you think that you’re gonna have another thing coming

basically this is just a lot of wishful thinking which is unfortunately heavily reliant on exploiting a bug that was fixed in the Bakugou 2.0 release. sorry Tokage. you guys are fuuuuucked

anyway so Jirou’s trying to hear what they’re up to, but it’s difficult with all of Tokage’s interference. but she says there’s less of the Tokage Noise than there was before though

so the others assume that means they’re regrouping for another attack

yeah Baku they’re trying to wear you down and trick you into making a mistake or something. then step 2: ?? and step three: profit. idk

WHEN THEY’RE AT LEVEL ONE AND YOU’RE AT LEVEL 50, NATURALLY YOU’LL BE GROWING AT DIFFERENT RATES

holy shit. so what level would we say Bakugou’s teamwork has grown to? he still has room for improvement, obviously, in spite of my giddy enthusiasm. maybe halfway there? little more than? say level 25-30? it’s difficult to say, because Bakugou’s level 50 teamwork is more than likely going to look very different from Deku’s. and also because his level 50 combat skills are pretty effective at concealing any weaknesses in his teamwork skills because they more than make up for the gap right now

for what it’s worth, though, despite what Monoma says, this isn’t the first time Bakugou has shown himself capable of teamwork. in fact, the actual first time we saw a hint of that was all the way back during the cavalry battle. it was, in fact, against Monoma himself. maybe he was just too traumatized by it to remember lol

okay so this is quickly becoming the “everyone is shocked at Bakugou’s character development” show though

you guys really should have watched season 3 of the anime through to the end before you came in here all cocky

Re-watching Lizzie Mcguire: Episode 1.25 (Facts of Life)

We should give this trio a group name. I mean, Andi Mack has the ‘Good Hair Crew’, which comprises of Andi, Buffy and Cyrus. So, it’s only fitting that we give this group a name. Any ideas?

- Gordo has too many eggs in one basket; On top of having to finish three book reports and a science project, he decided to burden himself even more by joining glee club. This is so he can diversity his school resume with non-academic activities.

- Side note: It’s cool that the writers acknowledged that Miranda had joined glee club back in episode 1.14 since it was kinda randomly thrown into that episode.

- Mr. Escobar clearly isn’t impressed with his students’ singing chops and urges them to practice at home. After their glee club session, Lizzie suggests to her friends they should try out for the ‘Fact-athlon’. They don’t think it’s a great idea since Gordo is already under a lot of stress.

Getting a reward is always good motivation

- But when Lizzie brings up the fact that the winners will get a free trip to Miami, the tone suddenly shifts from nay to yay. Plus. this would be a nice addition to Gordo’s already packed resume.

Bring it on ‘Fact-athlon’!

Preparation

- Lizzie and Miranda are busy studying and quizzing each other History facts in Lizzie’s living room. Gordo arrives and is supposed to bring donuts for his friends but he ate them on the way. That’s literally me lol.

- Gordo mentions to them that they need to get a faculty advisor for their team. Lizzie suggests a teacher who has a huge head but apparently, Kate has already snatched him; So I guess Kate’s also competiting in the ‘Fact-athlon’. Luckily, Gordo says they have Mrs. Trimmer as their back-up.

“What does a cannibal call a phonebook? A menu”. I don’t think jokes are Lizzie’s thing lmao.

- The next day in school, Gordo draws up a study plan that recommends 4 hours of studying each day in preparation for the upcoming competition. I have a lot of respect for those who are willing to put themselves through these kind of things, even if it’s all for a prize.

- We come to find out that Mrs. Trimmer has left the country (for no stated reason...) and Mr. Dig will be replacing her as their advisor for the ‘Fact-athlon’. I think Mr. Dig is great and all but good luck to them lol. I will still give him the benefit of the doubt though.

Team Lizzie vs Team Kate

- We come to find out later that ‘Team Kate’ comprises of her, Claire and Larry; Smart strategy to rope in Larry. Team Lizzie is about to start their study session with Mr. Dig and they brought in with them every math book they can get their hands on from the school library.

- But with Mr. Dig, you can’t expect to have a conventional study session with him; The only study tool he’ll be using to teach math is a deck of cards. This doesn’t sit well with Gordo because he feels that they should be studying from books and not from playing blackjack. Gordo and I share the same sentiment on this.

- But after getting teased by Miranda for being an “old man at 13″, Gordo decides to go along with Mr. Dig’s creative way of teaching Math, Science, English and History. And we then get to see a montage of him doing just that.

No shade but Team Lizzie is just clowning around whilst Team Kate is actually doing the proper preparation for the ‘Fact-athlon’. Don’t get me wrong, Mr. Dig’s method of teaching by showing is definitely effective but when it comes to a trivia competition, cramming facts into your brain as much as you can in a short period of time is the best strategy.

Day of the Fact-athlon

Team Kate is getting down to business but as you can see, 2 of the 3 members are a nervous-wreck

Team Lizzie seems confident but maybe a little too confident

- The competition then kicks off with English History and Team Kate is owning Team Lizzie from the get-go. As expected, Team Lizzie doesn’t know all the black and white facts like the dates and names when it comes to historic events.

- As Team Lizzie continues to get creamed in the ‘Fact-athlon’, Lizzie comes up with a plan to get out of the competition without forfeiting by telling Gordo to fake being sick and asking Miranda to trigger the water sprinklers. They follow the plan accordingly and manage to get themselves out of the embarrassing situation they were in. If I were them, I would be worried about getting punished for doing all of that lol.

I love how Gordo committed to his fake heart-attack though

- After the whole fainting and water-sprinklers fiasco, Team Lizzie are sitting on the stairwell suffering from their epic defeat. Team Kate rubs in their faces that they’ve lost so badly that Mr. Dig is quitting as a teacher. Yikes! Now things are getting serious.

- The find Mr. Dig packing his things from the classroom and they plead with him not to quit. They tell him that they’ve learned a lot from him and he has shown them that learning can be fun and how seemingly boring subjects like World History can be interesting. Now that’s the ultimate goal of a teacher; To inspire his/her students.

- Also, it turns out that going to Miami wasn’t the best prize for Team Kate:

Kate got bit by sand fleas, Claire stepped on a sea urchin and Larry got extreme sunburn. Wow, they were really unlucky over there.

B-Plot: Matt and Lanny are Starting A Band

- In the kitchen, Matt asks his parents if they have any musical instruments lying around the house that they can borrow. Sam suggests his old guitar he had used when he was in his own band with his cousin and his friend called “Midnight Sam and the Love Patrol”. Matt, Lanny and even Jo don’t seem impressed with this and they even laughed at the idea that he was in a band.

The song they were playing in this video was actually pretty good. I wonder if it’s an actual song in real life?

- Before I continue, I have always wondered why isn’t Matt in school for majority of these episodes whilst Lizzie is? I know this is a fictional show but it’s a funny pattern I’ve been noticing for quite some time now.

- Anyways, they are holding auditions to find a third band member in the backyard and Matt’s parents seem to be okay with the idea; They are such chill parents, I can’t. After viewing a bunch of ‘meh’ performances (well I thought that the oboe player was pretty good), they finally get a good audition...from a grown man by the name of Rick Marotta.

This is an adult who wants to be in a band with a couple of kids....I have questions

- I looked up Rick Marotta and he’s legit a big-time drummer in real life! His credits include playing with Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Steely Dan, John Lennon (as mentioned in the show) plus Carly Simon, Stevie Nicks and Randy Newman. Woah, impressive! But anyways, he is the best one so far and he gets the gig! Later, they start playing together for the first time and let’s just say, they don’t sound too good.

- It then escalates to the point where Sam and Jo can’t even stand the sound of them playing anymore. It’s cute how they don’t want to disappoint Matt by telling what he can or can’t do but if I were them, I would definitely put my foot down and ask them to stop the ruckus. Like please.

- We fast forward two days later on Sunday and Matt’s band is holding their first ever live performance and I must say; They look stylin’:

And they gave an incredible performance. Bravo! Of course it’s unrealistic for them to get so good after a short period of time but hey, I can definitely let this slide.

- In the end, however, Matt and Lanny want to move on to another hobby instead of continuing on with their band *facepalms

Overall Thoughts

- I really enjoyed re-watching this episode. They did a great job making an episode that centers around a ‘Fact-athlon’ quite entertaining. Plus, the writing and the dialog used in this episode was really witty. Kudos to Douglas Tuber & Tim Maile for writing this episode.

- I also like how they showcased the contrast between traditional ways of studying versus interactive/non-conventional ways of studying. Obviously, the former is more effective when it comes to trivia contests/quizzes but the latter makes students enjoy and really soak up what they’re learning. I also have to give props to Arvie Lowe Jr. for doing a great job as Mr. Dig in this particular episode. I loved seeing the bond between him and Lizzie, Gordo and Miranda. Teachers like him are absolutely gold.

- As for Matt and Lanny’s storyline, it was pretty good. I obviously don’t care about it as much as I do with the A-storyline but I definitely have to give them credit for their performance towards the end of the episode; It was great and I also like how Matt/Lanny didn’t annoy me as much as usual lol.

"So (Y/N),how have you been liking it so far?"

"Oh, I love Derry so far. It's a nice little town! Quite populated."the girl responded to her father who held her arm in his own, walking through the streets of their new home. "And papa? Did you hear about the circus?"

"Yes I did, apparently it's a pretty small one! Not many performers, but they do have this certain performer..."

"Pennywise!"the young woman exclaimed, but their covered her mouth in a bit of embarrassment. "I've heard so much about him and-"

"How most of the women around here are head over heels over him?"

"I-...no?Just that he's great with the children and that they all love him dearly..."(Y/N) slightly blushed to herself, thinking of the very details the clique of girls she met had mentioned to her and how it was a challenge just having the man turn his head, excluding his politeness of course. The old man chuckled as he shook his head and rolled his eyes, hearing quite similar stories from women and men who had previously intended on courting the male for their own daughters.

"Are you talking about Bobby?"the family heard behind them, so they turned around and met face to face with another father and his daughter who looked quite upset. The father was the one who had spoken up as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a key as the group approached the candy shoppe.

"Well yes, my daughter here is interested in-"

"Watching him perform as a clown and nothing else!" the girl quickly interrupted before the other man,Mr. Hershel, shook his head with a smirk.

"Little girl let me tell you, that boy is to hard to talk to and you will only get to see him from the stage. And that is it. Just the other day I offered him a free chocolate bar in exchange of my daughter's hand!"

'That's a bit too straightforward...'(Y/N) thought to herself as she glanced her eyes to the girl next to her, noticing that she rolled her eyes before looking around, almost as if searching for said male.

"Poor boy, he must get similar offers various times, yes?" her father laughed out and received a nod in response from Mr. Hershel. "Wait a moment, what time is it now?"

"It's 12:31 papa,why?"

"Oh darn, you stepmother asked that I check out some books from the library by the time she gets back!"Mr. Gordon told as his hand held his head. "She said she would be back from her club at 12...honey, do you think you could buy some sweets from Mr. Hershel here?"

(Y/N) nodded, then feeling her father kiss her cheek before scrambling away as he held onto his hat. She turned her attention to the other two people who welcomed her into the shop.

Elsewhere on the other side of Derry was Robert on his usual stage holding a piece of wood that he placed down as Raul held a can of paint in one hand and a paintbrush in the other.

"So, did ya see your pretty lady again Bobby?" the older male questioned with suggestive eyebrows which only made Robert roll his eyes, though he could not contain a smile that he hid by turning his back to his brother.

"Sadly,no. Not since the day I first saw her, meaning that I probably won't be getting a chance any time soon."

"Aw Bobby, when did you start being such a sour puss? This isn't like you!"Raul set down his items to sit on the edge of the stage and place an elbow on his knee and closed his hand into a fist where he lay his chin. "I guess that girl really is getting to your head,huh?"

"Pft, she is not."

"Is to."

"Is not!"

"Is to!"

"Is not!"

"Is to!"

"Boys!"they both snapped their heads to the side where their mother appeared, leaning her cane against a nearby wall. "What are you two arguing about this time?"

"Bobby's new girlfriend! Did you see the girl mama? She'd be a perfect daughter in law for you, wouldn't you think so?" The old woman slowly shut her eyes as a smile formed on her lips that released a slight chuckle.

"I'd like to think so...but that all depends on Bobby, now don't it son?"They both turned to Robert who shook his head and picked up another piece of wood that he moved aside. "The youngster's already doubting himself, ey? A pretty girl like that one, she must have all the other boys after her."

"Yeah mama! The other day when me and Bobby were walking I noticed that Old Ben's son was following her like a piece of meat!"

"Now Raul, let Bobby speak for himself."

"Mama, can I go home now? I'd like to rest before it gets much later."

"Robert son, you should have been home long ago! Haven't you got the time? Or was your pretty little head too focused on something else?"

"Thank you Mr. Hershel,I'll be sure to come back some other time!"

(Y/N) gratefully waved at the man who did the same from inside his shop and soon pat his daughter's back who looked up at him with a small smile.

(Y/N) turned to walk away and looked to the side at the clock tower which now read 12:39. She hummed to herself with a smile before her hand clutched tightly onto the paper bag she was given. She brought the bag up and slightly opened it to sniff the pieces of fudge and chocolate she had gotten for her stepmother, and for herself without her father's knowledge of course.

The girl smiled and then closed the bag before lowering her hands to fix her dress that was already catching some dirt the more she walked. As she continued her stroll and waved at the people who kindly greeted the newcomer, then stopping on her tracks when a few children ran right past her a bit rudely. Rather than calling them out or so, she shrugged it off with a smile and continued on her way, never realizing that the mere sight of her had caused a nearby presence to stop walking before hiding behind one of the buildings' stone walls.

"Miss (L/N)!"the girl turned around and instantly caught sight of a young man she had previously met before, and would not give up too easily despite her constant declines, especially since the two had just met.

"Yes,Mister Jonathan?"she asked after releasing a sigh that was unheard by the male who ran up to her and walked alongside her.

"Well I thought I outta show ya around Derry, belle! Wouldn't want any goops following ya around or harming ya!Besides, you know you can call me John-"

(Y/N) widened her eyes in a sarcastic manner as she nodded and ignored the continuous words that spewed out of the young man's mouth, looking around to see if there would be anything that would save her from Old Ben's son. For a far too quick instant, her (E/C) orbs met with baby blue ones that disappeared before she could look into them for another second.

"Miss (Y/N)?" The girl turned her head to the male who no longer had his smile. "Did you hear any of the words I just said? Are you feeling well?"

"Y-yes, and I think that I should head to...to...the library!Yes! I am supposed to meet my father at the library."

"Oh, if you'd like it'd be my honor to-"

"No!I mean,I wouldn't like to take your time away. Besides I-" And in an instant a boy dashed right in front of the pair before (Y/N) felt her paper bag get snatched away. "Hey!Did you just see that boy!?"

"Yes I did, and let me assure you that I will retrieve your bag Miss (L/N)!"Jonathan pledged before he charged away, leaving the girl all alone and slightly confused before she held her forehead and let out a deep breath. (Y/N) huffed loudly before stepping over to the wall and leaning her back against it. She threw her head back as she looked up at the blue sky, but she shook her head and reassured herself that she could just go and buy another ounce of sweets and that her father would find no problem with it.

"M-Miss?"she heard a soft voice call to her, so she turned to look at the owner who happened to be a tall ginger male with familiar blue eyes. "Are you alright,Miss (Y/N)?"

(Y/N) had not realized it, but she had stared at him for a bit longer than she should have before he called out to her once again.

"Um,yes?"she started before he smiled warmly and extended his lanky arms in front of himself to give a goofy bow that made her smile appear. "W-who are you exactly?"

"Oh,me? I, Miss (Y/N), am Robert Gray,also known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown!Pennywise meet Miss (Y/N) (L/N).(Y/N),meet Pennywise."

"Haha, I see you know my name like everybody else around here...just like everybody knows your name around here."the girl mentioned, causing the male to scratch the back of his head. "And Pennywise,huh? I somehow imagined that you would be older, or at least look like it."

"Please tell me that you won't be like my brother and claim that I look similar to one with a baby face."

"Oh no, not with that tremendous height!"the girl giggled out which made Robert hold his breath for a moment before letting it go.

"Would it be none of my business to ask, why did you look so upset earlier?"

"Oh...as I was walking with a young man, a little boy ran by and stole my candied sweets! I could go and buy another batch, but it still has me quite disappointed. Especially because my father did not leave me enough to buy more than I got last time." Robert's smile fell before he slightly squinted his eyes once remembering the words of a certain old man he had spoken to before.

"Did you...did you buy the sweets from Mr. Hershel's shop?"he asked a bit hesitantly, then seeing (Y/N) nod her head with sad eyes and a long face. It took a moment for Robert to speak up once again, but he sucked up his thoughts before he put up a grand smile again.

"I believe...I have a way of getting you your candies without pay."he suggested before the girl looked up at him with hopeful eyes. That sight made his smile widen before he held out his arm which (Y/N) linked her own onto before the pair began to walk off.

Hey, so I'm confused. So it seems Hide has his own human/CCG group against Furuta. They possibly want coexistence, like Goat. There's the battery day, Hide's Ace of Spades, the magician being the bridge between heaven and earth and the Scarecrow etc as symbolism about them collaborating. But then Hide's the witch servant, the Prince's enemy, and the witch probably being Eto or maybe Itori. But Eto is backing up Kaneki, and Hide probably helped her and Arima in their OEK plan to save Ken's [1]

life. Plus Hide’s getup in the play really resembles the Clowns’, but also has Eto’s hat. And then we have lots of Dragon symbolism for Hide, with the Dragon being Furuta’s ally and possibly a revived Shirazu. That would maybe tie the Qs to Furuta, because Scarecrow is apparently depicted as Saiko’s enemy despite the fact he just asked Urie to join him, and Saiko seems to want to collaborate with Urie.

Dragons controlled by Magicians who flew the sky and ended the war between an empire and a rebellious army (CCG/V and Goat?) If it’s Hide’s third faction, it’s curious that he’d control the Dragon, Furuta’s ally. And then there’s the old OEK stuff. Hide’s name possibly refers to the Naaga, and Chika to the underground and maybe the Washuu through Yoshitoki. He sometimes displays special physical abilities, now also as Scarecrow and we’re given weird hints in the redraw. Ishida’s new art may hint we’ll be seeing V, Furuta’s ally, soon. I don’t know what to think about all of this.

Right, so you’ve brought up quite a lot in your ask and I’ll try to address everything, because even though it might seem all over the place, I think it can still all be connected.

It seems to me that Hide appears to have similar goals to Kaneki; to be honest, I never pinned him as caring all that much for working towards coexistence, though. I thought he was more of a character who was concerned simply with himself and his person sphere since he treated ghouls as equals. I didn’t think he cared much for coexistence but he didn’t seem to see ghouls any differently from humans. I’m realising now that the way I perceived Kaneki and Hide may have been switched.

It seems to me as though Kaneki is the one who appears to be fighting for the good of everyone, when he really just admits to fighting for those close to him. Hide on the other hand, appears to be concerned with himself (and Kaneki), but maybe he’s seen now that the way things are can’t go on. He’s now been forced to see that the system they’re living under has fucked up his and Kaneki’s lives. The person he loves most is in constant danger thanks to the current system, and maybe that’s helped Hide to realise that he can’t just sit back and let things continue the way they are. Hide isn’t one to sit back and wait for something to happen, and that’s why I think he’s taking it into his own hands now.

Hide’s card, the Ace of Spades, it’s known to be the most powerful card in the deck, and I think that’s because what Hide is doing now is a game changer. He’s now introduced another opposition to Furuta, one that no one suspected to be of any significance before now, but they’re taking back the CCG and that changes EVERYTHING.

Like you said, the battery day page, Hide and Kaneki’s birthdays as well as their tarot symbolism all seem to be heavy indicators that they’ll join together to work towards a common goal. I think that this will still be the case. Now that Hide has taken the CCG, technically, he is on the opposing side to ghouls. This makes me think that perhaps this is the betrayal against Kaneki? This is the stage where Hide is in opposition to Kaneki, but Goat’s goal has been to make negotiations with the CCG, so I can see them joining forces against their mutual opposition which would most likely continue to be Furuta since he’s at a pretty high position of power in multiple organisations.

As for Eto, I still think there’s space for her to fit into all of this. Hide was heavily injured in the sewers, and of course he must have escaped somehow. I’m doubtful that he managed to get himself out of there alone, and Aogiri were already there snatching up fallen investigators for Kanou to experiment on. Eto seemed to already have shown interest in Hide from the time Hide went to Takatsuki Sen’s book signing. I am almost certain that Hide and Eto HAVE to be involved somehow. It would seem pointless to me to include that scene between them if they’re not. It’s possible that during the time between TG and :re, Hide was with Eto. This would make sense if Eto saw potential for him to be an OEK candidate (there’s me going off about the 2nd OEK theory again lmao).

I feel as though the part of the play which has the witch’s servant receiving forgiveness from the prince and joining him by his side will be when the CCG and Goat join together inevitably.

Additionally, although Saiko has been linked to Scarecrow, I’m thinking that it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be enemies. Some speculate that Scarecrow was Saiko’s online friend she mentioned at the beginning or :re, and really, I see no reason as to why Hide would be against Saiko. They don’t appear to be working in opposing directions, so it would make far more sense to me that she should join him, and that the art of the Quinx simply drew connections between them and the ghouls rather than pitting them against each other.

As for this panel, I want to give my interpretation on it since it ties in with what you said about the dragon being Furuta’s ally but Hide being linked to it.

So, the Empire would obviously refer to the current system which Furuta is at the head of. The rebel army would, of course, be Goat, but the dragons don’t have a side specified to them. I think the dragons and magicians actually refer to multiple people on different sides. Of course, Hide being associated with the magician makes me think that his group are being referenced, but I’ve seen a couple theories claiming that Furuta has also adopted magician status, which makes sense since he refers to his secret weapon as “dragon”. In light of this, I think the dragons which are referenced in this panel could be alluding to magicians on both sides using “dragons” against eachother. If this is the case, that means that Hide’s ties with the supposed Naagaraji would still make sense, however it seems to me that Furuta’s kagune we saw in 138 seems to bare quite close resemblance to the Naagaraji we were shown underground.

Hide being a Washuu is definitely still on the table, and if he is one, it would make even more sense for him to take up the position of Chairman at the CCG (though I would personally prefer this position to go to either Matsuri or Marude).

As for that art of the hand with a V on the wrist reaching out to Kaneki, I can’t say I’m entirely sure of what that means. Many have been speculating about who that hand belongs to, but I think that it could just be a metaphor. Perhaps the hand just represents V as a whole? Though I’m not entirely sure why it’s caressing Kaneki’s face so gently.

All I can really say I’m almost sure of is that V will be making a significant reappearance, especially since they will be more vital to Furuta now than ever, now that he’s lost his position of power within the CCG which was his main tool.
